25 Live (also known as the 25th Anniversary Tour) was a concert tour by English singer/songwriter George Michael. The tour was the most commercially successful tour of 2006–2007 in Europe, grossing over $200 million, with positive reviews from music critics. The 106 tour shows were performed in 41 countries and seen by 1.3 million fans across the globe.

It was Michael's first tour in over 15 years. The tour, running for 50 dates, began in Barcelona on 23 September and was intended to end at Wembley Arena in London in December, but—due to great feedback from fans—continued into 2007 providing more gigs throughout Europe, concluding in Belfast. The tour is described as "a celebration of his 25-year career in music", and was accompanied by a Greatest Hits album, released in late 2006. The news of the tour came amid increased media speculation about Michael's personal life, in particular, his drug use and sex life. After the success of the autumn leg, new shows were added for summer 2007, in large arenas and stadiums. Pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor was announced as the supporting act for six of the eight UK shows. She did not open the show at Wembley Stadium as Michael was the first artist ever to play in the new stadium.

On 25 March 2008, a third Leg of the 25 LIVE Tour was announced for North America. This leg included 21 dates in the United States and Canada. This was Michael's first tour of North America in 17 years. The tour coincided with the release of his new Greatest Hits album on 1 April 2008.

The tour ended with two concerts at Earls Court in London named "The Final Two". Wham! fans would recognize the reference to Wham!'s last gig at Wembley Stadium in London in 1986, The Final. Another final concert was later announced. The concert was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 30 August and called The Final One. Australian dates were added in November 2009, involving stops in Perth, Sydney, and later Melbourne in February/March 2010.

Ticket sales in the UK and Europe were brisk. Within two hours of initial sales, 240,000 tickets were snatched up by eager fans. First to sell out were UK shows in London's Wembley Arena and Earls Court as well as Birmingham's NEC Arena and Manchester MEN Arena. The Manchester show sold out within minutes, and the two 25 Live dates added to the venue were sold out by lunchtime. To meet demand, 14 gigs were added to the tour, including three additional shows in London alone. Michael's dates around Europe were met with equally extraordinary enthusiasm. In Norway, the Oslo show at the Oslo Spektrum sold out in an hour and a half. In Copenhagen, 49,000 tickets sold out at the Parken Stadium in just three hours. The first Rotterdam concert at Ahoy Rotterdam arena sold out in a mere six minutes, and the second saw tickets vanish in 16 minutes. In fact, a third Rotterdam show was added by popular demand that also sold out in 16 minutes. This unprecedented response has stood out as the fastest sell of tickets ever experienced by Barrie Marshall, whose London-based promotion firm, Marshall Arts Limited, has been promoting shows for 30 years.

The 25 Live tour broke several ticket sales records, most notably in Copenhagen. Michael's concert at Parken Stadium sold over 50,000 tickets in the matter of minutes, shattering the previous ticket sales record at the venue, formerly held by U2.

In North America, although ticket sales weren't fast as they were in Europe, every venue was sold out in time for the concert. For a period of 25 hours during the week leading up to the Los Angeles show on 25 June 2008, tickets were sold for a promotional price of $25 (down from $95) in celebration of George Michael's birthday, 25 June 1963.

All the tickets for the Final Two shows in London and the Finale One show in Denmark where sold out in 2 hours.

Ticket sales for the Australian leg were also brisk, the concerts in Perth at the 25,000 seat Burswood Dome and the 42,000 seat Sydney Football Stadium both being sellouts.

On 11 June 2008, two dates were added, titled "The Final Two", taking place in Earls Court, London on 24 and 25 August 2008. These concerts were filmed for a 25 LIVE DVD release entitled "Live in London".

On 30 June 2008, Michael announced one more last show in Copenhagen at Copenhagen's Parken Stadium on 30 August. This special performance, entitled "The Final One", allowed Michael to say "thank you" to his loyal fans, not only in Scandinavia, but also across Europe.

On 1 November 2008, Michael announced another last concert. This time it was held at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium on 1 December 2008, in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It was the first event to be held at the new stadium and was billed as the biggest concert ever held in the UAE. It was also his first concert in the Middle East. The event also helped to launch National Day celebrations and an outdoor extravaganza of fireworks and lasers gave fans a spectacular and unforgettable experience.

George Michael is a singer-songwriter and producer born on the 25th of June 1963 who hails from East Finchley, London, England. He is one of the most succesful British artists of all time, seeing worldwide success as both a member of the duo Wham! and in his solo career.

Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou to a Greek father and an English mother, George Michael was fixated on becoming a performer from a very early age, busking at every opportunity he could. However, it wasn’t until his family moved from London up to Radlett, Hertfordshire that he met someone who shared his musical ambitions. It was while he was attending Bushey Meads School that he met Andrew Ridgeley, who later became his bandmate in the legendary 80’s combo… The Executive. It was a ska band as well, as if the early band embarrassment level wasn’t high enough.

However, while The Executive wasn’t built to last the Michael/Ridgeley partnership was, and together they formed Wham!. After writing songs, recording demos and scoring a record deal with Innervision Records, they became one of the biggest acts of the 80’s. They sold over 25 million records the world over, became the first western pop group to perform in China and bowed out in 1986 with a sold out concert at Wembley Stadium in front of 72’000 fans. It’s not just that it’s merely unlikely for any artist to see that kind of success in any other act, it just doesn’t seem to happen like that.

Any other artist would be doomed by leaving behind that level of success (anyone heard from Andrew Ridgeley lately?), but not Michael. He became one of the few artists to successfully transition from teeny-bopper pin-up (although Wham! were far more legit than most) to serious, adult artist and did so in the most impressive way since The Beatles about twenty years earlier. His debut solo album, “Faith”, was referred to at the time as the British answer to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, an accolade that did not come lightly. It sold 25 million copies the world over, each of its six singles hit the top five in the U.S and the top 20 in the U.K and both the album and it’s title track were the best-selling album and single of 1987. It’s one way of starting a solo career, for sure.

Since then, Michael has had the freedom to do whatever he wants to do. Whether its release scathing political commentary in the form of “Shoot The Dog”, release an album of lounge/jazz covers with “Songs From The Last Century” or tour with an orchestra playing reworked versions of his back catalogue with his “Symphonica” album and live shows. He’s an artist with as convincing a golden touch as any other artist of his generation, and as fans of pop music, we should be thankful he’s still in his prime. Highly recommended.

Live reviews

I went to see him a live a few years ago with some members of my family including my die hard fan of an aunty. It’s amazing how an amazing performance can turn a 45 year old women into a teenager. I witnessed this first hand as dozens of women (including my aunty) screamed like 14 year old girls as George delivered ‘I’m Your Man’.

George was in amazing form, it seemed like he was having as much fun as anyone as he moved across the stage and worked the audience. Accompanied by his backing singers and band he performed all sorts of songs from his rather large catalogue.

From the days of ‘Wham’ with songs like Wake Me Up Before You Go- Go, Freedom and Careless Whisper through to his own classics like ‘Faith and ‘Too Funky’. He also played a number of his more recent tracks.

Theres no doubt George is an unbelievable singer, arguably the best of his generation. Anyone who can fill in for Freddie Mercury on Queen tours has to be a bit special in that category! However I sometimes forget how good of a song writer he is. I left the gig and spent the next 72 hours humming or singing George's songs. He obviously did something right. George Michael, what can I say? You certainly still have it!

George Michael fans will be on their feet dancing and singing along with U.K. performer Rory Phelan and New York City actor/singer Craig Winberry who headline The Life and Music of George Michael , a brand-new, concert style show chronicling the amazing journey of one of the best-selling artists in world history that launches a North American tour in 2022. Produced by Right Angle Entertainment, Maple Tree Entertainment and Quatro Entertainment, the show recalls all the hit songs from his early days with Wham! through his illustrious solo career including "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go," "Freedom," "Faith," "Careless Whisper," "Father Figure," and many more. A career highlight includes performing at West End Live in Trafalgar Square in Mamma Mia in front of 20,000 people. Other credits include Saturday Night Fever and an international tour of Grease.

Winberry is an NYC actor, singer and songwriter who regularly appears at The Stonewall Inn and Feinstein's/54 Below. He has played dramatic and comedic roles in Off-Broadway productions of Global Gay at La Mama Experimental Theatre Club and Thank You for Being a Friend: The Golden Girls Musical Parody, an official selection for NYC Stonewall 50th PRIDE Celebration.

The producers of The Life and Music of George Michael will also be donating $1 per ticket sold to Gods Love We Deliver to help serve the community and those living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses.

For years, Greek-born singer Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, better known as George Michael, was one of the most successful pop artists in the world. In the 80s, 90s as well as the early twenty-first century, he dominated the charts as a solo artist, but also with 'Wham!', the band he formed in 1981 together with Andrew Ridgeley.

On 25 December 2016, all George Michael fans as well as the entire music world were stunned when the terrible news broke that one of the most amazing singers ever had died. The sudden death of yet another great icon in 2016, a man who once won two Grammys, sold more than 100 million albums worldwide and scored 20 number one hits, plunged the music world into deep mourning and his countless fans from America to the Far East were left completely orphaned. Thankfully, he gifted us his enormous legacy, a countless treasure of timeless and the most beautiful songs ever.

Finally the many George Michael fans are getting what they have long been entitled to: the tribute concert 'The Edge Of Heaven'-tour is coming to your theatre! An amazing live band, along with one of the most phenomenal 'look-a-like-lead' voices, accompanied by three fantastic backing vocals, revive the hits of George Michael and Wham! one by one. 'Faith', 'Father Figure', 'I'm Your Man', 'Careless Whisper', 'Outside', 'Freedom', 'The Edge Of Heaven'... they will all be featured during this unique concert night.

The Life and Music of George Michael  is a brand new concert-style show that chronicles the amazing journey George Michael had with music and his fans. The show captures the performance and sound of George Michael with staging and lighting while telling his story through early music hits from Wham! and his illustrious solo career. 

As one of the biggest international stars of our time, the show will have fans on their feet dancing and singing along to blockbuster hits including “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go,” “Freedom,” “Faith,” “Careless Whisper,” “Father Figure,” and many more.  Spanning a four decade career with over 115 million albums sold, The Life and Music of George Michael shows his rise to fame as a member of Wham! in the 80’s. He went solo in 1987 with “Faith,” one of the biggest albums of all time which included multiple number one hits.   

Throughout George’s career, he won two Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, three American Music Awards and four MTV Video Music Awards.  The show is produced by Ruckus Entertainment, the creators of The Simon & Garfunkel Story and other touring hits.
