Tour Experience Golf building on success

Written by Fritz Schranck . Posted in Golf Column

February 3, 2023

I first met Ian Fraser, club fitter and owner of Tour Experience Golf in Toronto, Ontario, just outside the Foresight launch monitor booth at the 2020 PGA Show . We chatted briefly and he readily agreed to an interview.

A few weeks later our conversation resumed, joined by Matt Blois, a videographer, Fraser’s good friend, and the guy hitting hundreds of great golf shots for the company’s growing YouTube channel .

TXG’s Matt Blois (l) and Ian Fraser (r)

The column ran in April 2020 , just as Canada and the United States went into full lockdown from the Covid pandemic.

At that point, TXG’s YT channel had over 66 thousand subscribers watching dozens of videos that first began running in 2017. Unfortunately, Fraser’s fitting business at his Toronto studio had come to a screeching halt because of the mandated shutdown.

What a difference three years can make.

The three of us met again at the 2023 Show and discussed the significant changes that happened to TXG since we last talked, along with some of the company’s upcoming plans. Fraser had just come from an extended meeting with Arccos Golf, the shot-tracking and analytics company, relating to technical perspectives on best club fitting practices.

Although the fitting side of TXG’s business went on hiatus, Fraser and Blois qualified for a government exemption for media and continued with YouTube. Blois said they made videos three or four days a week during that time, compared to the former Monday-only schedule they previously maintained.

The audience count for TXG’s videos jumped almost immediately – perhaps in part because viewers were also shut in, but also for the obvious reason that the clips were well worth watching. As the subscriber numbers climbed, the money earned through YouTube also increased, keeping Fraser’s business afloat.

Once the pandemic restrictions were removed, pent-up demand for new custom-fit clubs boosted TXG’s business considerably, leading to more and bigger changes.

Fraser opened a second fitting studio in Mississauga, about 20 miles west of Toronto. Last fall he opened a third studio in Calgary, Alberta, part of a planned expansion to several Canadian provinces.

More recently, Fraser entered into an agreement with Club Champion , the American club fitting company with multiple locations, including Wilmington. TXG’s YouTube title page now says, “Tour Experience Golf//A Club Champion Brand.”

“I’m running the business just as before,” Fraser said. “One of the benefits of our arrangement is that I can take advantage of Club Champion’s Asset Teams.” He said the group does market research and locality analysis to help decide where new stores could be successfully established.

For a small outfit like TXG, that kind of expansion assistance is invaluable. Market research is expensive and recovering from opening a business in the wrong place is no fun, either.

The company continues to thrive on the YouTube front. Blois said they are up to over 204 thousand subscribers, adding 3,000 to 5,000 new signups each month. He said some older videos continue to generate multiple visits, with evergreen content having the longest tail. For example, Blois said a piece on picking the right tee height has over 900,000 views.

Both Fraser and Blois are keen to avoid clickbait content that sometimes mars other YouTube sites. Fortunately, several guests on the TXG YT channel helped and even created their own following without taking that path. Mizuno Golf Club Engineer Chris Voshall is one of the most popular. “He’s instantly trustworthy,” Fraser said.

Blois said the comments section accompanying the TXG videos often includes “extremely specific questions” about shafts, club options, and product details. Any golf equipment show attracts its fair share of gear heads, after all.

Using YouTube as a market generator has worked very well. Fraser said 40% of TXG’s fitting business comes directly from the channel. The rest derives from word of mouth, referrals, and a small amount of direct advertising.

Fraser and Blois stressed that a good understanding of your own golf data speeds up the fitting process significantly. Blois said the company’s booking questionnaire gives helpful prompts, but if you bring your own Arccos or Trackman stats, that helps even more.

Fraser gave an example of a client from Dubai with a math background that brought a thick binder to his first session. “His statistical analysis proved to himself he needed new clubs. We were able to help him,” Fraser said.

Some golfers still subscribe to the “matched luggage” version of filling their bag. Fraser said mixing and matching clubs from several manufacturers is far more common. “There’s a trust element when the customer works with us,” he said.

Fraser also told a great story about Mike Martysiewicz, TXG’s Director of Club Building and Fitting, and a frequent, funny participant in the TXG videos. “I first knew him as a 15-year-old junior and met him with his dad where I worked previously,” Fraser said. After watching the youngster swing, Fraser said he told Martysiewicz to “go get some lessons and then come back.”

Twelve years later, Martysiewicz’s handicap is in the single digits. He obviously took Fraser’s advice and even joined TXG – a sure sign there were no hard feelings, at least none that lasted.

MEET OUR CANADIAN LEADERSHIP TEAM

Ian fraser — gm of club champion canada.

Ian has been working in the golf industry for 18 years, having turned professional shortly after leaving High School. Golf has been Ian’s significant passion since he first picked up a club at 15 years old. It was clear a life in the golf industry beckoned after Ian achieved a scratch handicap in just 3 years of playing the game. This significant milestone came through a combination of talent and dedication, the same formula has been key in Ian’s rise to prominence so far in his career.

During 8 years at TaylorMade Europe — working in various Club Fitting roles — Ian helped golfers from all walks of life, from PGA Tour Players to complete beginners picking up a club for the first time. Some notable players Ian has worked with include Colin Montgomerie, Gary Woodland, Eduardo Molinari, Chris Wood, DA Points, Paul Broadhurst, Steven Gallagher and Paul Lawrie. In his final role with the company, Ian designed and operated the Taylormade Performance Lab at the world famous Turnberry Golf Resort on the west coast of Scotland.

In late 2011, Ian was recruited by a Canadian Investment Group and was tasked with starting up a company called Modern Golf. In addition to being a minority shareholder, Ian was Head Club Fitter and Chief Technical Officer at Modern Golf. Four fantastic years were spent growing Modern Golf to become a prominent club fitting facility in Canada. Ian left Modern Golf in late 2015 to begin creating TXG. The goal envisioned by Ian was to deliver the same type of experience to golfers of all levels and to demonstrate that all golfers can benefit from proper equipment that is fit to their requirements and abilities. With this vision of becoming the industry leading experts in club fitting and building, Ian and his team opened their first store in Burlington Ontario. Shortly following that came the opening of the company’s flagship store in the northeast part of Toronto.

Mike Martysiewicz — Director of Club Building + Fitting

Mike “Mikey” Martysiewicz is the Director of Club Building and Fitting at TXG and has been with the company since before their official inception. In addition to this role, Mike wears many hats at Club Champion Canada. He is often seen on camera, assisting in content production alongside Ian and recently started co-hosting TXG’s “The Build Shop” Podcast with Ryan Barath.

Prior to joining, Mike attended Humber College’s Professional Golf Management Program while always working within the industry. His favourite part of the bag to fit is the driver because in his opinion it is the hardest club for people to hit well, but when the right club hits their hands, you can easily see an upwards gain of 20 yards. When Mike isn’t working, he can be found daydreaming about his favorite course played, The Oakmount Country Club in Pennsylvania. Aside from golf, Mike has a passion for aviation, travel and red wine.

Bill Damery - Vice President Operations

Bill has 25 years of senior leadership experience in manufacturing, operations, sales and purchasing with a focus on custom products. Bill has worked with global organizations as well as regional entrepreneurial companies. He has a wealth of experience scaling and leading teams to successes. Bill has a strong educational foundation which includes a university degree, a post graduate degree as well as earning his CPIM designation (Certified Production Inventory Management). When not working Bill enjoys outdoor activities with his family, travelling and spending time on the water.

"WE WENT FROM A LOCAL START-UP TO A FLOURISHING BRAND BECAUSE WE SAW THE HUGE DIFFERENCE FITTED EQUIPMENT CAN MAKE IN A GOLFER'S GAME AND WE'RE MAKING THAT IMPROVEMENT AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE ACROSS THE GLOBE."

TXG Golf Review: Tour Experience Fitting Guide

Table of Content

What is TXG and What Does it Do?

Where is txg based, txg golf on youtube, ian fraser golf expert from txg, txg tour experience golf club fitting service, other txg golf services, txg golf prices for fitting, is a club fitting from txg worth it.

The vast majority of the club and recreational golfers purchase their equipment either online or by visiting their local golf store, and tend not to worry too much about the precise fit of the clubs they select.

But golfers who use poorly fitting clubs have to make swing adjustments to compensate and struggle to perform on the course to the best of their ability.

TXG seeks to address this issue. Tour Experience Golf (TXG for short) is a Toronto-based expert golf fitting service launched by Ian Fraser. The primary objective of TXG is to fit and build the best golf clubs for your game, using cutting-edge technology and unparalleled analysis.

Fraser has also launched a top-rated YouTube channel, on which he presents and analyses a range of golfing equipment launched by the biggest brands in the sport.

In this article, we review TXG golf and look at the various aspects of their innovative service, presenting you with an appealing opportunity should you wish to have your clubs custom-fitted by industry-leading experts.

The core service offered by TXG is golf club fitting.

But it’s the way they do it that is innovative and pioneering. By utilizing cutting-edge fitting technology, TXG experts analyze your performance with your current clubs and custom fit and build every club in your bag.

Their analysis is conducted by the Foresight GCQUAD, a launch monitor that utilizes “quadroscopic imaging,” which essentially analyses your ball flight in minute detail.

For putting, TXG experts make use of a Quintic Ball Roll, which comprises high-speed cameras that have “the ability to understand 45 different parameters.”

Following this comprehensive analysis, it’s time to select your equipment.

TXG offers more than 30,000 club combinations from the biggest brands in golf.

Their designers are capable of combining any shaft and clubhead to create the perfect clubs for you.

They offer different levels of fitting, including full bag, long game, short game, and even individual clubs.

So, whether you want your whole bag customized or are just looking for a slight advantage with a particular aspect of your game, you can book a fitting with TXG to suit your requirements

TXG has its headquarters in Toronto, Canada.

Their HQ is equipped with three fitting bays, a putter fitting studio, and a build shop explicitly designed for repairs.

Master club fitter Ian Fraser is based at TXG Toronto, who has worked with several PGA Tour Pros in the past.

There is also a TXG fitting studio in Mississauga, Ontario, which is the company’s self-described “state-of-the-art build shop.”

Being close to the airport, TXG’s Mississauga branch is the preferred location for their international clients.

You can book a fitting through TXG’s website by selecting your preferred location.

If there are no available slots in the upcoming weeks, you can join the waiting list and be notified when a fitting becomes available or if there’s a cancellation.

One unique aspect of TXG is that expert club fitter Ian Fraser began marketing the company through a series of insightful and popular YouTube videos .

With more than 160,000 subscribers from all around the world, Fraser and his colleagues release new video content on their channel every day and offer a compelling insight into the equipment and custom fittings of some of the biggest names in golf.

Here is a video on club fitting:

Their shows also include interactive Q&As where TXG experts respond to viewer’s questions.

TXG Tour Experience Golf also has a series of instructional and informative tutorials covering topics like correct tee heights, the differences between blade and cavity irons, as well as reviews on the latest releases from brands like Callaway and TaylorMade.

TXG’s YouTube channel is an excellent source of high-quality golf content and offers a compelling insight into the equipment used by pros at the very highest level of the game.

You can subscribe to the TXG golf YouTube channel here . TXG also hosts a popular podcast, which you can listen to here or via Spotify or Apple podcasts.

TXG is the brainchild of CEO and founder Ian Fraser.

Having worked in the golf industry for eighteen years and turning pro after leaving high school, he turned his attention to TXG after a hugely successful tenure in club fitting with TaylorMade Europe.

During his time at TaylorMade, Fraser worked with golfers including Colin Montgomerie, Gary Woodland, Eduardo Molinari, and Paul Lawrie before designing and operating the TaylorMade Performance Lab at the Trump Turnberry Golf Resort in Scotland.

Leaving Scotland for Canada in 2011, Fraser was asked to start a company called Modern Golf by a Canadian Investment Group.

After building Modern Golf into one of Canada’s most prominent golf fitting facilities, Fraser left to begin work on TXG with the goal of providing fitting to golfers of all abilities and levels while pioneering the latest in modern technology.

He has assembled a talented team of fitters at both the Toronto and Mississauga facilities, and TXG attracts players of all levels from around the world, who hope to improve their game by benefitting from Fraser’s expert fitting skills and insight.

TXG has developed a reputation as one of the most trusted names in golf fitting in Canada, and their two fitting facilities attract players of all levels who are keen to improve their game.

“The Tour Experience” provides every golfer with the same level of service and attention, whether they’re a current PGA pro or a “weekend warrior.”

This is central to TXG’s philosophy, as founder Ian Fraser wants to provide all golfers with the opportunity to access the best, tailored equipment.

The Tour Experience allows you to have your clubs built the way tour players do.

TXG fitters guarantee precise weight sorting, frequency matching, rigorous loft and lie checking, as well as club stamping, providing you with tour-spec clubs, whatever level of the game you currently play.

Fittings for the Tour Experience can be made for specific clubs or your full bag, and you can select which location to visit for your fitting.

While TXG is renowned for its club fitting facilities, you can access a range of other custom services and equipment, including:

  • Custom drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, utility irons, irons, wedges, and putters. TXG’s online store stocks the latest equipment from the biggest brands in golf and offers unique customizing opportunities.
  • Custom shafts incorporating a range of materials, designs, and colors, giving you the chance to make your bag really stand out from the crowd.
  • A range of high-end golf accessories, including arccos, headcovers, golf bags, soft goods, and towels.
  • TXG bundles and gift cards, making the perfect present for a loved one on a special occasion.

You can see a complete catalog of TXG’s other services and equipment by visiting their online store here .

So, how much does it cost to have your clubs fitted like a pro?

It really depends on the level of service you require. As of this summer, the TXG golf prices are as follows:

  • Full bag – $400 (3-4 hours) – inclusive of all clubs in your bag from driver to putter.
  • Long game – $250 (3 hours) – inclusive of driver, woods, hybrids, and irons.
  • Short game – $200 (2 hours) – inclusive of wedges and putter.
  • Driver – $100 (1 hour) – inclusive of fitting one driver.
  • Woods – $100 (1 hour) – inclusive of fitting one wood.
  • Irons – $100 (1 hour) – inclusive of fitting one iron.
  • Wedges – $100 (1 hour) – inclusive of fitting one wedge.
  • Putter – $100 (1 hour) – inclusive of fitting one putter.
  • Distance reviews – $100 – (1 hour) – inclusive of lie adjustment for irons.

TXG offers a 50% discount for junior golfers under the age of sixteen.

As you can see from the price points, the best value for money option is to get your full bag fitted at the same time.

If you want to purchase new equipment to be customized during your visit, you will have to budget for them separately.

Yes! Thanks to the latest advancements in golf analysis and the skill and experience of founder Ian Fraser, TXG golf has emerged as one of the most innovative and trusted golf club fitting providers in Canada.

Attracting golfers of all levels from around the world, the TXG fitting facilities in Toronto and Mississauga offer fittings throughout the week, as well as expert advice from golf experts who have worked with some of the biggest names on the PGA Tour.

TXG customers and followers also get value from their popular YouTube channel and podcast.

Haven’t been on the forum here in a while, I recently found them on YouTube. Not sure if it’s been talked about here but the testing they do is very informative and I find that there approach to fitting shafts and heads is a bit eye opening. Worth checking out if you have the time.

It's been talked about. Matt had an account and it was deleted/banned for some odd reason. I think because he was promoting the channel and that's not allowed or something along those lines.

Ian is my new favorite guy on YT when it comes to getting club/data info. He's got a lot of insider knowledge; things like Tiger was testing Pro OJ earlier this season and that the switch to it before the Masters wasn't random and sudden. He may have been playing to switch for months now.

There video on the PO should make some people on here cringe lol. That is definitely not a shaft that is going to fit a wide variety of players.

Right... it's a pretty specific range of players who would like it/benefit from it the most.

I randomly ran across that video this morning about the PO. It was pretty interesting to watch...I really enjoy videos about shaft technology, so their youtube channel is probably one that I will go back and watch when I have free time.

(Note I just posted this on the other site as well, hope no one minds the copy paste but I wanted to put the information out there.) So I wish I could get this on the main page where more eyes could see it, but this is where these things go. Apologies in advance for its length

After watching a youtube video a couple months ago by TXG, Ian made a comment that a great fitter could literally change the way someone delivered the ball based on the equipment they had. As a full blown club ho, who spends stupid money on equipment, I've never heard this. I have been fit by every legit fitter in New England at some point over the last 5 years - you name them, I've been there. Ive traveled out of state, been there, done that. I have very strong feelings about fitting, and don't want to make this a session of anyone else, but it would be fair to say I think the big name fitters are good for letting you try a bunch of stuff, but nothing much more.

I'm a 13 that can get low 80's and blow up high 90's. And long story short I decided to drop my schedule and fly to Toronto and meet Ian. This was a significant expense both in fitting cost and travel costs but I will tell you it is the single best thing I've ever done from an equipment standpoint and I'd recommend it to anyone who spends more than 1000 bucks a year on equipment.

To start, I tried to book a full bag fitting in April, he was booked 45 days out. It was scheduled to be an afternoon one day and then the morning of the next. About a week ago I learned I needed to be at an event the night of the afternoon appointment. I let the team know and they agreed to meet me an hour earlier the next day and I flew in first thing in the morning. I fully expected the session to be cut short for that reason but there was nothing I could do and appreciated their flexibility.

So yesterday morning I went and got fit by Ian. I will NEVER again be fit anywhere else. It was a game changer. Started with irons, and was relatively inconsistent as per usual. He kept switching combos, but the amazing part was that every time I told him that I felt something, he could figure out what I was feeling and address it. Most incredibly to me, you could see the path improve. It was remarkable. I didn't believe it from the videos and it was completely legit. Best part - after he dialed me in he told me to hit my (fit) clubs and immediately spraying started again. Then he gave me the dialed in ones and once again, striping them.

Then we went to driver, which I generally hit well but not well into screens. I was predictably all over the place, though decent output. He told me he thought he could get 10-15 more yards out of my swing, which I kind of laughed at because I know my distances. He then handed me a combo and said "this will work or it won't" - which it didn't, but immediately switched out the shaft, and the next one I was indeed getting 15 more yards out of. Which was just crazy for me. Mind you, my whole bag is fit clubs made in 2017-18.

Then putter - he watched me hit three putts with mine and said "You have a pretty unique putter swing - this is probably the only putter I have that you can hit the way you want to"- and immediately the numbers on the screen all got better, you could see the roll was better. The whole thing just made me shake my head.

We then did fairways, hybrid, and wedges. No upsell on the fairways and hybrid, He showed me that my shafts were ill-fit, the numbers improved immediately, and took my clubs to re-shaft them. Wedge I told him I liked what I had, and at this point he had spent close to 5 hours with me, I felt bad and didn't want to take up more of his time given that he'd rescheduled for me. He didn't miss a beat and told me based off my swing he knew what would work, and again, you could see the difference in the feel, the numbers, the spin, and the contact quality. His instinct on what I could get out of my swing was the most amazing thing to me - I see myself as inconsistent and not particularly long, and he could see the ability to squeeze performance out of minor tweaks. Was very, very impressive.

Long story short, this was the best fitting I've ever seen, it changed my entire view of what fittings are and should be, and I'd encourage anyone with the capacity to get to Toronto to see Ian. Ignoring that is he an amazing fitter, he is a wonderful person and it's the kind of business I am happy supporting. I cannot imagine there is anyone who wouldn't get improvement in some way from his insights. He's now the only guy I'll let do my stuff and I hope very much that he doesn't get so busy he can't fit me in.

That's awesome that you got to get fitted by them. I started researching club fittings and new clubs a few months ago and stumbled upon their channel and have been hooked since. It's amazing what they can do and how knowledgeable Ian appears on the channel. Glad to hear he just as good in real life. Wish I had the money to spend to go up there and get fitted. Sounds like an awesome experience.

Subscriber to TXG's YouTube channel. Really enjoy the content they provide, specifically the "why" things work and how changing equipment into something that is fitted to you can make the world of difference.

Great channel (and they're very active with engaging their subscribers answering questions, taking suggestions for future episodes etc).

Ian has referred to the shaft in several of his videos as a timing mechanism. I immediately thought of the few times I've had a certain club with a shaft that really fits my swing DNA. All of sudden the swing becomes effortless, I'm in sequence and the club comes through the hitting area on the correct path, distance and accuracy are produced without having to work it. Probably similar to what ThorntonMelon experienced during his fitting.

If you've just discovered TXG its well worth going through their past videos. Just a wealth of knowledge, unlike a lot of the other youtube guys just testing the newest driver on GCQ.

If they could figure out how to cut their videos in half, they’d be amazing. If they cut them down to 5 minutes, they’d rule the world.
I like the length of them... Different strokes I guess...

Same here on the length if the content is good and their content is great. I think the longer the better.

He said the reason they are the length they are is he wants people to get the full idea of how s fitting goes. Not just videos of 5 swings and showing the numbers. But they whys behind everything.

Ive learned so much from watching them.

They could be shorter. But I like them for my treadmill sessions. :)

Never had any issue with the length of their content.

I've seen a lot of fitting but never seen the results my buddy got from TXG. Cameron was fit in the spring and call in bull or what ever I don't care but he gained 25+ yards and he could already hit it. We played a tourny on the weekend and was was 30 by me when we were side by side last yr or he had a little on me. He was fit into a ping g400 max and the veylax or something like that shaft. Two of his tee shots shocked us that they carried that far. I have no affiliation with txg or do I even know them but they did a great job with Cam. He bought a complete set of everything and he is happy. Nice job guys

I agree TXG is by far the best Youtube golf channel. Before TXG Rick Shiels was my go to youtuber for initial reviews, and Crossfield too.

Personally when I get the update on my phone of the new video release I personally hope its a long one because you know they've really dived deep into what the topic is (just my thought on video length that's all).

Although I miss the fittings they used to do. I mean I like the other videos too, but I love watching the fitting process. Where I live I can't get fit, not even a half Word not allowed fitting here, and the only time a trackman shows up here is twice a year for a single Ping and Titleist demo day, so I love the deep dive into the LM #'s and the "how's and why's" each shaft or head combo maybe affecting the outcomes one way or the other.

I just wonder how this whole Patreon thing will work out. It could be very cool, but unfortunately without access to a real LM, or living in an area where they may be visiting for their upcoming "sessions" might not be worth it for us small towners. But time will tell, but who knows maybe it will? Sounds like they are planning on really doing some huge things in the future with the help of Patreon.

I couldn't agree more with everything said about TXG (except the part about shorter videos, I wish they'd live feed the studio everyday). I just got back into golf about 5 months ago after not playing for 8 years. I was just kinda playing here and there and then ran into TXG. It opened my eyes as to how much gear can be an influence in concert with your swing. Following the channel made me look further into my gear and how gear I was looking into would match me on the course. It's made golf a bad sickness now, they've cost me tons of money! haha

Chris, here on the forum, has been extremely kind and helpful to me as well. When they announced Patreon I had to join. I look forward everyday to what might come out of TXG.

I doubt they'll ever make it to my course but if they make to South Florida you bet I'll be trying my best to get there.

You most likely have seen my fitting video then, it was up about a month ago, "Rob" higher handicap iron fitting, then a driver one that followed. Best fitting experience of my life, and spending 5 hours with Ian and a round of golf with Matt the day before capped an incredible couple days with them.

BParis

Rob, I enjoyed watching your fitting videos.

Tour Experience Golf building on success

tour experience golf matt

I first met Ian Fraser, club fitter and owner of Tour Experience Golf in Toronto, Ontario, just outside the Foresight launch monitor booth at the 2020 PGA Show in Florida. We chatted briefly and he readily agreed to an interview.

A few weeks later, our conversation resumed, joined by videographer Matt Blois, Fraser’s good friend and the guy hitting hundreds of great golf shots for the company’s growing YouTube channel.

The column ran in April 2020, just as Canada and the United States went into full lockdown from the COVID pandemic.

At that point, TXG’s YouTube channel had more than 66,000 subscribers watching dozens of videos that first began running in 2017. Unfortunately, Fraser’s fitting business at his Toronto studio had come to a screeching halt because of the mandated shutdown.

What a difference three years can make.

The three of us met again at the 2023 PGA Show and discussed the significant changes that happened to TXG since we last talked, along with some of the company’s upcoming plans. Fraser had just come from an extended meeting with Arccos Golf, a shot-tracking and analytics company, relating to technical perspectives on best club-fitting practices.

Although the fitting side of TXG’s business went on hiatus, Fraser and Blois qualified for a government exemption for media and continued with YouTube. Blois said they made videos three or four days a week during that time, compared to the Monday-only schedule they previously maintained.

Last fall, he opened a third studio in Calgary, Alberta, part of a planned expansion to several Canadian provinces.

More recently, Fraser entered into an agreement with Club Champion, an American club-fitting company with multiple locations, including Wilmington. TXG’s YouTube title page now says, “Tour Experience Golf/A Club Champion Brand.”

Market research is expensive, and recovering from opening a business in the wrong place is no fun either.

The company continues to thrive on the YouTube front. Blois said they are up to over 204,000 subscribers, adding 3,000 to 5,000 new signups each month. He said some older videos continue to generate multiple visits, with evergreen content having the longest tail. For example, Blois said a piece on picking the right tee height has more than 900,000 views.

Both Fraser and Blois are keen to avoid clickbait content that sometimes mars other YouTube sites. Fortunately, several guests on the TXG channel helped and even created their own following without taking that path. Mizuno Golf Club Engineer Chris Voshall is one of the most popular. “He’s instantly trustworthy,” Fraser said.

Blois said the comments section accompanying the TXG videos often includes “extremely specific questions” about shafts, club options and product details. Any golf equipment show attracts its fair share of gear heads, after all.

Using YouTube as a market generator has worked very well. Fraser said 40% of TXG’s fitting business comes directly from the channel. The rest derives from word of mouth, referrals and a small amount of direct advertising.

Fraser and Blois stressed that a good understanding of your own golf data speeds up the fitting process significantly. Blois said the company’s booking questionnaire gives helpful prompts, but if you bring your own Arccos or Trackman stats, that helps even more.

Fraser gave an example of a client from Dubai with a math background who brought a thick binder to his first session.

After watching the youngster swing, Fraser said he told Martysiewicz, “Go get some lessons and then come back.”

Twelve years later, Martysiewicz’s handicap is in the single digits. He obviously took Fraser’s advice and even joined TXG – a sure sign there were no hard feelings, at least none that lasted.

Willowbrook, IL – In a blockbuster move, the nation’s top golf club fitter and builder, Club Champion, has acquired top Canadian fitter and builder Tour Experience Golf (TXG). This new alignment brings the two most prominent custom club fitters on the continent together to better service golfers in North America and beyond.

“We are incredibly excited to bring Ian and his crew into the Club Champion family,” said Nick Sherburne, co-founder of Club Champion. “We’re looking forward to bringing the best of both our capabilities together to serve every golfer.”

This integration marks the first time that Club Champion will bring their club fitting services beyond USA borders. Simultaneously, this represents a massive opportunity for the TXG brand; the intent behind this merger is to further expand custom club fitting services across the Canadian golf market and to bring some crossover to the fitting content available for all golfers from both brands.

“There has always been a mutual admiration between TXG and Club Champion,” said Ian Fraser, TXG’s founder. “We share a similar belief that every golfer deserves the best possible equipment for their game, and now we get to work together to further that message.”

CC+TXG-01.jpg

Fraser has been a staple in the golf industry for over nearly 20 years and founded TXG in 2016. The brand has since become internationally known through the TXG team’s engaging digital content, and locally revered near their studios in Mississauga, Ontario and northeast Toronto. Both TXG studios offer an extensive number of combinations from many of the same top brands found in Club Champion studios, and a similar comprehensive fitting process. Like Club Champion, they also custom-build their club orders to spec for their customers and ensure a final product that performs on the course as it did in the fitting bay. The ideology between the brands is remarkably similar: finding the best clubs means playing your best golf.

The online presence of both brands will be bolstered by this acquisition and allow for both to expand their content capabilities. Club Champion has an in-house studio and production crew, while Fraser and his team have built an incredible digital platform through social channels, including YouTube. TXG has amassed millions of views across the digital board, with 175K subscribers on YouTube alone at the time of publication. Their existing content strategy will lend itself well to Club Champion’s growing presence, and both brands will lean on each other to produce even more quality content for golfers of all levels.

“We’ve got a podcast, they’ve got a podcast. They’ve got awesome video content and we’ve only just started dipping our toes into that lake,” says Adam Levy, CEO of Club Champion. “This partnership is about so much more than just the masterful club fitting and building services we both offer. It’s about bringing two of the most prominent names in the golf equipment industry together to promote the best possible clubs, the best possible experience, and the best possible service you can find this side of a Tour card.”

About Club Champion Club Champion is the USA’s most prominent name in custom club fitting and building services. Established in 2010, there are now more than 90 Club Champion locations nationwide and the company is expanding internationally in 2022. Each studio offers golfers access to over 50 brands and more than 50,000 hittable head and shaft combinations. Club Champion has solidified their position at the top of the industry through comprehensive Tour-level fittings, unrivaled club building, and the use of top-tier technology. The company is headquartered in Willowbrook, IL and is home to more than 375 employees, including hundreds of the most highly trained Master Fitters in the country. About TXG Tour Experience Golf (TXG) was established in 2016 and has become Canada’s preeminent club fitting and club building company. The brand has amassed a measurable and loyal following in the digital space and quickly established a position as one of the most trusted resources for golfers worldwide via their YouTube channel. The TXG ideology is centered on fitting, building, and educating golfers to help them maximize their performance on the golf course. Currently, TXG has two stores, as well as an online storefront, and they offer all the top brands in golf. Earlier this week, Mitsubishi announced the return of its iconic Whiteboard profile with the new Diamana WB shaft.

In our launch story , we offered a rundown of the key technology in the new WB — 80-ton Dialead pitch fiber, Aerospace-grade MR70 carbon fiber, Consistent Feel Design, and the Xlink Tech Resin System. To go deeper, however, we enlisted our Resident Club Junkie and bona fide shaft nut, Brian Knudson, to track down someone from Mitsubishi at the PGA Show. Fortunately, Mitsubishi’s Director of Global Aftermarket Sales, Jonathan Alongi, was on hand to answer all of BK’s questions.

Check out their discussion about the new WB, as well as the 20th anniversary of the original design, in the video above — time stamps of key points below, including a definitive answer as to how the surfboard graphic ended up on the original Whiteboard in 2004!

  • :40 – Mitsubishi Japan expands to the U.S. in 2004
  • :50 – “The shaft that set the standard”
  • 1:12 – “The ‘board is back”
  • 1:45 – WB or Whiteboard? Or both?
  • 1:55 – The first iteration of the sixth generation of Diamana
  • 2:10 – Incorporating key technology from a 20-year journey
  • 3:10 – Modifying the tip section for more ball speed
  • 3:50 – Delivering ball speed in a low-launch, low-spin shaft
  • 4:20 – Drilling down on the shaft profile compared to the original Whiteboard
  • 5:00 – The most impressive element of the new WB
  • 5:30 – Butt, mid, tip specifications
  • 6:00 – WB’s iconic graphics and the Diamana legacy — flowers, surfboard, numbering system
  • 8:15 – An abundance of available weights and flexes
  • 8:55 – More players going lightweight

Check out more photos and see what GolfWRXers are saying about Mitsubishi WB in the forums.
