If you visit the Martial Glacier in summer, it is the ideal time for trekking to the base . The Martial Glacier is actually a remnant of an ancient glacier, so you will not see a uniform mass of ice like the Perito Moreno or other glaciers, but separate blocks of ice.

• Forest Path : this is the name given to the path from the Mountain Refuge to the end of the chairlift. It is quite steep.

• Cañadón Negro : it is the longest in distance, about 1,6 km, and climbs up to 1050 metres above sea level.
• Waterfall trail : 400 m long and 700 m above sea level.

Then, the descent to the Martial Glacier Mountain Centre or to the city takes about half the time of the ascent. In any case, it is worth going slowly to avoid injury and stopping along the way to take pictures of the city of Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel.

How long does it take to climb up to the Martial Glacier from the trailhead?

It depends on which trail you choose, but on average it takes about three hours in total .

Is there any place to eat or have a drink on the martial glacier?

El Glaciar Martial se encuentra a 7 km de Ushuaia y es parte del paisaje que se puede ver desde cualquier punto de la ciudad.

Cómo llegar a martial.

En auto son 15 minutos por un buen camino. Los taxis y remises ofrecen el viaje hasta las instalaciones del Martial.

Caminando son aproximadamente 7 kilómetros por un camino que va ascendiendo y desde el cual se pueden observar hermosas vistas panorámicas de la bahía y de Ushuaia.

Hay épocas del año que funciona transporte público (colectivos y combis) entre la ciudad y el Martial.

Para tener en cuenta : una posibilidad es llegar a Martial en taxi o remis y volver caminando a la ciudad (el regreso es cuesta abajo).

El Glaciar Martial es un lugar privilegiado para las caminatas y trekking . En el lugar hay diferentes senderos que se adentran en la montaña para disfrutar del contacto con la naturaleza rodeado de hermosos paisajes. Cada sendero tiene su grado de dificultad, hay caminatas fáciles que son ideales para toda la familia y algunas difíciles para aventureros más experimentados.

En el Glaciar Martial también se puede realizar canopy y tirolesas en el bosque fueguino. Estas actividades están enmarcadas en el denominado Turismo Aventura y es apto para toda la familia. La empresa Canopy Ushuaia ofrece dos circuitos: 1 El circuito largo está formado por 9 tirolesas y 2 puentes colgantes, su recorrido lleva 30 minutos. 2 El circuito corto lo forman 7 tirolesas y es el recomendado para aquellas personas que tienen poco tiempo o para grupos de visitantes.

Ruta en la Tierra de Fuego para todo tipo de público. En verano es ideal para ir con niños!

Una de las actividades mas demandadas en Ushuaia (Argentina) es la excursión al Glaciar Martial . Un trekking apto para todos los públicos que nos permitirá llegar a la base de uno de los campos de hielo más famosos de la región. Famoso no por su tamaño, dado que es relativamente pequeño, sino por su cercanía a la ciudad a tan sólo 15 minutos del centro.

Excursión al glaciar Martial (Ushuaia)

Todo sobre este viaje

Realizar la excursión o trekking al glaciar Martial es relativamente sencilla aunque siempre se tiene la opción de realizarlo por libre. Nosotros optamos por esta segunda opción al disponer de un coche de alquiler y querer pasar el máximo de tiempo posible en la montaña. También se puede llegar en taxi o transporte público cuyos detalles cubriremos al final del artículo.

El glaciar Martial es conocido por su estación de esquí, pequeña para los cánones europeos, pero suficiente para quitarse el mono. En verano en cambio, se convierte en un lugar ideal para la práctica del senderismo. Esto último no requiere de un gran estado físico, mas aún si el telesilla esta abierto el cual te ahorraría la mitad del trayecto. No obstante más allá del glaciar os encontrareis nieve y hielo incluso en verano.

Trekking al glaciar Martial

El trekking parte desde el mismo aparcamiento de la estación de esquí. Allí hay un pequeño restaurante ubicado a la izquierda de este, justo delante de la pista de esquí. En verano es muy fácil identificarla porque es como un gran pista desierta rodeada de árboles. Eso sí, el trayecto se puede hacer de muchas maneras. Podemos subir directamente por la pista, por el telesilla , cosa bastante fea, o optar por el sendero que va por dentro del bosque y paralelo al río que baja del glaciar Martial. Esta opción fue la que utilizamos para subir y la otra para bajar.

La primera parte del camino es bastante empinada pero sin gran dificultad. El paisaje es bello y el sonido del agua nos empuja con facilidad. En cuestión de X minutos llegaremos a un puente de madera que nos dejará de vuelta a la pista de esquí y a la conexión con el final del telesilla.

Llegaremos al valle glaciar y veremos los carteles que indican la dirección al glaciar y una serie de advertencias. Estamos en un lugar donde se pueden producir derrumbamientos, encontrarnos grietas en el suelo y/o hielo muy resbaladizo. Por tanto es aconsejable no salirse del camino y si fuera necesario, darnos la vuelta sin pensarlo.

Desde aquí apenas tenemos 45 minutos hasta la base del glaciar, del cual como veremos mas adelante se encuentra en pleno retroceso.

Llegamos a los primeros tramos con nieve. Nos encontramos a última hora de la tarde y en plena sombra. El manto blanco está duro y andamos con mucho cuidado de no resbalarnos pero ayudándonos de las pisadas mañaneras avanzamos sin dificultad.

Comenzamos a ver la lengua del glaciar Martial, cubierta por un tupido manto de nieve. La pasada noche nevó un poco y las grietas de hielo son apenas visibles.

Y por fin llegamos al glaciar y hacemos caso al cartel de fin de ruta. Ciertamente y con nuestra experiencia hubiéramos podido avanzar un poco más pero los carteles de advertencia están para respetarlos. Glaciares hay mil y no acercarnos un poco más no pasa nada.

Mañana toca visitar el penal de Ushuaia . Cambiamos naturaleza por historia.

¿Cuándo ir al glaciar Martial?

Es una excursión veraniega dado que en invierno está completamente cubierto de nieve y el glaciar no es visible. Se recomienda realizar de Noviembre hasta principios del mes de Abril.

¿Qué llevar al glaciar Martial?

Es una excursión corta por lo que no es necesario llevar mucho peso. Lo ideal es llevar botas de montaña y ropa de abrigo porque hace bastante frío incluso en verano. También no olvidéis llevar algo de comida y agua, ya que el agua del glaciar no es potable, o más bien no os quitará la sed.

¿Cómo llegar al glaciar Martial?

Se puede llegar en vehículo propio donde podemos dejar el coche en el parking de la estación de esquí sin coste alguno. Si subir en taxi el coste aproximado es de 500 pesos por trayecto.

Hay un omnibus que parte de la central de autobuses con un coste aproximado de 400 pesos ida/vuelta. Sale a las 09:00.

¿Se puede ir con niños al glaciar Martial?

Se aconseja quedarnos hasta el final del telesilla con los niños. Más adelante si existe nieve o hielo en el camino no es aconsejable.

At the exit of the chair lift are the shelter of the Club Andino Ushuaia and the trail to the base of the glacier, which runs alongside a little mountain river in its last stages.
