How to apply for a Schengen visa from Qatar

How to apply for a Schengen visa from Qatar

If you are a citizen or resident of Qatar who is hoping to visit Europe sometime in the future, you will likely need to obtain a Schengen visa in order to enter and travel throughout majority of states on the continent. A Schengen visa for Qatari citizens and residents will give you access to the entire Schengen area, a group of 26-countries that includes some of the most popular tourist and business destinations in the world. With a Schengen visa from Qatar, you will be allowed to visit France, Germany, and Italy, among other exiting destinations renowned for their history, culture, and cuisine. Read on to discover how to apply for a Schengen visa from Qatar and for the answers to commonly asked questions like, “Where do you apply for Schengen visa?” and, “How much does a Schengen visa cost from Qatar?” Finally, today’s blog will discuss the Schengen visa requirements for Qatar citizens and residents, and Schengen visas and types for Qatar passport holders.

  • The Schengen visa application process is sometimes lengthy—especially for first time applicants.
  • When you apply for a Schengen visa from Qatar for an upcoming trip to Europe, you will want to have a general idea of your travel dates to give you enough time to prepare your application.
  • In general, the processing time for applications for the Schengen visa for Qataris and residents is three weeks, so you will want to submit your visa application at least three weeks before you intend to travel (and no earlier than 6 months before).
  • When you apply for your Schengen visa from Qatar, you will select the “type” of Schengen visa you need on your application form.
  • There are a number of different Schengen visas and types for Qatar passport holders, each of which reflects a reason for travel.
  • Schengen visa types include medical, tourism, and business; for a complete list, click here .
  • Schengen visas are available in the single, double, and multiple-entry categories; the type you select will determine the number of times you can enter and re-enter the zone.
  • If you receive a single-entry Schengen visa from Qatar, you will only be allowed to the enter Schengen area one time during your visa validity period—if you exit the area after entering you will not be allowed to return—even if you still have time left on your visa.
  • Alternatively, if you have a double entry-visa you will be allowed enter the zone, exit it, and re-enter it again. A double entry visa is a good option for those who plan on returning to Qatar at some point during the 90 days in which their Schengen visa is valid, but doesn’t plan on traveling back and forth in-and out of the Schengen area frequently.
  • Finally, the multiple-entry category allows visa holders to enter, exit, and re-enter the zone as many times as they like throughout their visa validity period. Because this option is the most flexible, it is the best option for men and women who want the freedom of being able to travel back and forth from the Schengen area to Qatar (or elsewhere outside of the zone).
  • Where do you apply for a Schengen Visa? Qatari visa applicants will apply for their visa through the Schengen country they intend to spend the most time in on their trip.
  • If you are spending an equal amount of time in multiple places, you will apply for your visa through the country that represents your first point of entry into the Schengen area.
  • For example, if you are travelling to both Spain and France, but you plan on spending more time in Spain than in France, you will apply for a Spanish Schengen visa. Alternatively, if you are spending an equal amount of time in both places, but your first entry into the Schengen area involves flying directly from Doha to Madrid, you will apply for a Spanish Schengen visa, as Spain would, in this scenario, represent your first entry point to the Schengen area.
  • Now that you know what Schengen country you are applying to, you should apply for a Schengen visa through that country’s embassy, consulate, or visa application center (whichever entity processes Schengen visas for that country).
  • Most major European countries have a consular presence in Doha. However, if you are applying for a Schengen visa from a smaller Schengen country (such as Latvia or Denmark) you may find the consular affairs of those countries represented by a larger European country.
  • For example, Hungary handles the processing of Schengen visas to both Latvia and Denmark for applicants in Qatar. This means that if you are applying for a Schengen visa to Latvia, you will apply through the Hungarian Embassy in Doha (via a visa-application center affiliated with Hungary).
  • Qatari passport (or another valid passport)
  • Schengen visa application
  • Schengen visa fee
  • Passport size photos (2)
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof that you can financially afford your trip
  • Proof of having purchased travel medical insurance
  • Biometric information
  • In addition to the above, Qatari applicants must also submit a number of supplemental documents that are dependent on the specific type of visa they are applying for.
  • For example, if you are applying for a Medical Schengen visa from Qatar, you will have to submit documents from the hospital you are having your procedure in.
  • For more information on required Schengen visa materials, click here .
  • Please note that any documents you submit will likely have to be written in either English, the language of the country you are applying to, or another commonly-accepted European language. Alternatively, you can submit documents in third-languages, provided they are submitted alongside an official translation into an accepted language. For example, if you submit a visa invitation letter from a friend that is written in Arabic, you may have to have that letter translated in order for it to be accepted as a valid supplemental document.
  • Contact the Schengen country you are applying through to find out what language they will accept document submissions in.
  • Schengen visa applicants must fill out the basic application form.
  • The universal Schengen visa form, which most Schengen countries will allow you to apply through, is available here .
  • If you choose to apply through this above method, you will print out and fill out this form and submit it with the rest of your required and supplemental materials at your Schengen visa appointment.
  • Alternatively, depending on what country you are applying to, you may be asked to apply through a country-specific visa portal. This is the case for applicants applying for Schengen visas from Germany and France (see France’s online visa portal as an example).
  • Those who are applying for a short-stay Schengen visa from Qatar through a visa portal can generally create an online account and fill out their application online (often, they are asked to bring a physical print out of this application—even if they submitted it online).
  • Schengen visa applicants who apply online often have the advantage of paying for their visa online and also scheduling a Schengen visa appointment.
  • The majority of people applying for a short-stay Schengen visa from Qatar will need to attend a Schengen visa appointment in order to submit their application, and the majority of these people will have to schedule their appointment in advance (verses simply showing up at the embassy/consulate to drop it off during normal operating hours).
  • If you didn’t apply online (or didn’t receive a prompt to schedule an appointment) you should contact your application destination directly to find out whether you need to schedule a formal appointment to submit your application.
  • Biometric information submission (this is the collection of your fingerprints and photos, which you are required to submit if you are a first-time applicant or if you previously submitted your info over 59 months ago).
  • Schengen visa fee payment (How much does a Schengen visa cost from Qatar? The quick answer is €80 EUR for most applicants. For a more detailed exploration of Schengen visa fees, click here .
  • Schengen visa interview (most applicants will be asked to attend a short interview upon the submission of their application).
  • Almost all countries require that Schengen visa applicants attend their Schengen visa appointment in person (i.e. personally submit their application).
  • If you frequently apply for Schengen visas and your biometric information remains valid from a previous application (and if you have already paid for your visa online) you may be able to avoid applying in person and interviewing . However, even if you have previously and frequently applied for a Schengen visa, you may still be asked to come in for an interview.
  • If you are approved for your Schengen visa from Qatar, you will receive a message to pick up your passport (which will contain your Schengen visa) allowing you to proceed with your trip.
  • If your Schengen visa is rejected, you have options, including the ability to appeal. For more general information on how to appeal a rejection, click here .

Overview of Schengen Visit Visa

The Schengen is an area comprised of 27 European countries that have abolished passports and all other kinds of border control at their interactive borders. The region primarily functions as a single jurisdiction, with a unified visa policy for the purpose of international travel. A Schengen visit visa from Qatar entitles the holder to enter any Schengen Area member state for tourism, frequent travelers, short-stay traveller, or business visa travelers for a maximum of 3 months within a period of 6 months.

Although Spain is not part of the Schengen Area, it has a special agreement with the Schengen countries that allows Spanish nationals to enter and exit the Schengen Area using their Spanish passport. As such, Spanish nationals do not necessarily have to apply via Spanish authorities for a separate Schengen visa in order to travel to Schengen countries.

However, if you want to acquire a Spain tourist visa from Qatar, you must apply for a Schengen tourist visa from your home country. The approach of applying for a Schengen visa can be lengthy and complicated, so it is important to start the application process as early as possible with the help of experienced consultants. Contact DM Consultants in Qatar to get started with your Schengen visit visa process. We guide you throughout the visa procedure from application to visiting visa centre, visa submission, and visa facilitation.

If you will be visiting the Netherlands for a maximum of 90 days – for a holiday, to do business or to see family, for example – you can apply for a Schengen visa. Follow the steps below to apply in Qatar.

Step 1: Check before applying

Before starting your application, check whether you need a visa for the Netherlands and, if so, where you can apply for it .

Do I need a visa?

Not everyone needs a visa to visit the Netherlands. If you’re unsure what applies to you, check whether you need a visa to visit the Netherlands .

If you plan on applying for a Schengen visa for Slovakia or Sweden, check with the embassy of that country to find out what visa requirements apply to you.

Don’t need a visa?

If you don’t need a visa for the Netherlands, see what documents you do need to travel to the Netherlands.

Check what you need to travel to the Netherlands

Where can I apply for a visa?

To apply for a Schengen visa in Qatar go to the VFS Global application centre in Doha. You can only submit an application there if you live in Qatar.

If you live somewhere else, go to the page Applying for a Schengen visa and select the country where you live to find out where to submit your application. If you still want to submit your application in Qatar, first check if that’s possible.

Check whether you can apply for a visa outside your country of residence

You don’t need to appear in person to submit your application if:

  • you have applied in person for a Schengen visa within the past 5 years (59 months), and:
  • you submitted a photo with that application, and:
  • your fingerprints were taken for that application (only applies if you are 12 or older).

If you meet all 3 conditions, you can have someone else submit your application for you. The appointment must be under the name of the person submitting your application.

If you are not certain whether VFS Global has your fingerprints on record, you should submit your application in person. VFS Global cannot check this for you.

How can I change or cancel my appointment?

To change or cancel your appointment, contact VFS Global in Qatar .

Guide to Schengen Tourist Visa Application Process in Doha, Qatar

Before applying for a visa, you need to know which country in Europe that you wish to visit. Popular options especially for OFWs are France and Italy, but there are other countries in the Schengen estate that you can apply for in Doha. The reason why you need to know first the country is because this is what determines which office embassy in Doha that you need to visit by the time you are scheduled for an appearance. So let’s say you are planning to visit France, then you need to go to the France embassy. Same goes for Italy, you need to go to the Italian embassy in Doha, and so on.

Qatar Guide: How to apply for Schengen tourist VISA in Qatar

Considering its proximity to Europe, a number of travelers from Qatar — regardless being a local or an expatriate — are constantly eyeing a quick vacation to at least one of the equally-enthralling Schengen states.

The urge to travel to either France or Italy or Spain — being the Top 3 most preferred — roots from the traveler’s drive to either immerse themselves in a slightly colder weather or their intent to keep their country count growing as acquiring a Schengen VISA will entitle them to visit as many as 26 European countries!

In Qatar, applying for a Schengen VISA is quite a breeze as the country is relatively condensed and the embassies to the Schengen countries are extremely accessible with some of them even erected beside each other. Not to mention the up-and-coming VISA centers which are more than willing to assist should you have any difficulty processing your application.

Actually, these VISA centers are really meant to help you as each one of them represents Schengen countries meaning there’s no need to go to the embassies anymore if you see the country name listed under the VISA center representing them. All you need to do is look up the VISA center’s address and go there straight — as they usually have everything that you will need in order to secure that dream Schengen stamp on your passport!

europe tourist visa from qatar

The application of a Schengen VISA is subject to your point of entry in Europe or the country where you will stay the longest (if you’re planning to make the most out of your VISA). Depending on your planned itinerary or tour package, you should be advised where to apply for a VISA on their respective embassy offices here in Doha — or in most cases, VISA centers.

So what are these VISA centers and what are the Schengen countries that they represent?

While the VISA centers that we’ve listed below cater to those applicants who are intending to enter Europe for a short stay only, it’s best to keep in mind that the concerned embassies are still the ones deemed responsible to conduct the review and approval processes for all applications, including long term VISAS.

A Schengen VISA comes in varieties. They can either be for tourism, business, student, working, or transit purposes. For this special edition of ILQ’s Qatar Guide, the  tourist Schengen VISA  will be discussed as it is the most commonly preferred by locals and residents in Qatar.

Only residents of Qatar (with valid QID) are eligible to apply for a short-term Schengen VISA under the ‘tourist’ specification in the above centers/embassies.  Depending on the visa issued, they may be allowed to enter once (single entry) or multiple times (multiple entry) and stay for no longer than 3 months and 90 days per year in between the period of 6 months. Such a decision is made by the authorities depending on the nature of one’s travel purpose and other relevant factors.

Now that you have an idea of the different Schengen embassies and VISA centers scattered around Doha, the next step is to decide which country to prioritize. If you read the upper part of this guide, you probably already have a clue what we’re talking about.

According to Qatar’s oldest and most pioneer travel agency Darwish Travels, Indian and Filipino nationals are the most frequent nationalities who approach them for Schengen VISA assistance. And although there are certain nationalities who are banned from applying for a Schengen VISA, the travel agency assured that the processing for the two above-mentioned nationalities are almost the same that’s why for the purpose of this guide, we’re using them as baseline.

Let’s take an excerpt from Best Life Qatar’s detailed guide.

Here are the steps that an applicant will have to go through should he/she intend to apply for a Schengen VISA:

  • Download an application form from the internet and fill it completely and sincerely. The application form can be found in the embassy/VISA center website of the country you’re applying for (see above links). You can electronically fill in the form and print it out directly and sign each page if necessary.
  • Prepare the required documents with both the original and photocopy versions available. (for the list of requirements, keep scrolling!)
  • Schedule an appointment. You must make an appointment online before going to the VISA Application Center. Embassies which aren’t under any VISA center will accept walk-in applicants during their designated timings.
  • Submit the documents to the VISA center or to the embassy. Lodge your application personally and have your biometrics taken on the date mentioned in your appointment slip. Please be advised that embassies and VISA centers are very strict with the appointment time. Applicants who come in late — regardless of the excuse — will not be entertained (especially if the schedule is full).
  • Pay the appropriate VISA fee amount as well as service fees. You can pay directly to the VISA centers or the embassy itself. Convenience fees (or service charge) are levied on the total billed amount made using debit or credit card either online or at the VISA center. Please note that these fees are non-refundable and subject to change as per the embassy policy.
  • Track your application. As per usual procedure, approval takes 5-10 working days (could be earlier or longer depends on the documents submitted). The embassies or its VISA application centers do not process rush applications so be sure to give enough allowance before your flight. Application tracking may be done online and afterwards, original passport with the VISA stamp shall be available for collection at the VISA centers.
  • IMPORTANT:  Double check the details on your visa as any minor difference or mistake can cause more trouble when you are already on your flight.

Requirements needed to obtain a Schengen VISA in Qatar (may vary depending on the embassy/VISA center):

  • Bank Statement (last 3 months showing salary transfer and must be stamped by the bank)
  • Schengen travel health Insurance (minimum coverage 30.000 Euros), covering the period of your travel
  • Recent passport size photos (2 pieces, white background)
  • Passport and Residence Permit valid for 3 months after your return date to Qatar (Please note that for all applicants over 10 years of age, the passport has to be signed by the holder)
  • Copy of the reservation of the return ticket and hotel booking for the time intended to be travelling (especially for French embassy)
  • Please note that Company Invitation Letter is required for Business Visa only)

Common reasons why Schengen VISAs or VISAs in general are getting denied:

  • Not properly filled-out application forms
  • Incomplete supporting documents
  • VISA application submitted more than 90 days prior to the flight
  • Passport is damaged and/or no longer valid (less than 3 months)
  • False travel documents
  • Insufficient proof of subsistence (as evidenced by financial statements)
  • Other legal problems.

Otherwise, if the documents you’ve submitted are chronologically in order, then there should be no reason for your VISA application to be denied.

We wish you the best of luck in your Schengen VISA application!

Eid Al Adha 2024: Is Montenegro visa on arrival for UAE residents?

Living in uae.

European adventure: Find out the conditions, required documents for UAE residents

Montenegro

Dubai: Thinking of a European Mediterranean escape during the upcoming Eid Al Adha or summer holidays? UAE expatriates can get visa on arrival to Montenegro, the small but vibrant European nation located on the Adriatic sea.

This captivating Balkan nation boasts stunning riviera landscapes, pristine sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, primeval forests and ancient architecture.

So, if this sounds like the perfect vacation for you, there are a few conditions and requirements UAE residents need to meet before they book their tickets to Montenegro.

For how long is the visa on arrival is valid?

“The visa on arrival scheme is only for a specific period which is from May 1 to September 7, 2024 . After that, the tourist visa is issued on a case by case basis,” Eva Kanani, an operations manager at Vas Tourism LLC, a UAE-based destination management company (DMC) that specialises in Balkan tours, told Gulf News

According to the government of Montenegro’s website - www.gov.me, UAE residents can stay in the country for up to 10 days on this visa.

The visa on arrival scheme is only for a specific period which is from May 1 to September 7, 2024. After that, the tourist visa is issued on a case by case basis. - Eva Kanani, operations manager at Vas Tourism LLC.

What are the conditions for visa on arrival, for Montenegro, for UAE residents?

Kanani explained that UAE residents are eligible for visa on arrival but they have to meet specific conditions first.

“UAE expatriates who have a valid residency permit continuously for three years before travelling to the country are allowed visa on arrival. It is also important to note that some UAE residents with specific nationalities are not allowed visa on arrival. They can apply for tourist visa through the Montenegro Embassy in Abu Dhabi,” she said.

The government of Montenegro’s website - www.gov.me, states that the visa on arrival decision does not apply to nationals of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, Somalia and India.

She added that a direct return ticket to Dubai is also a requirement for getting the visa on arrival.

“As of now, the Montenegro government is allowing passengers flying with flydubai to be eligible for visa on arrival. The flydubai flights for Montenegro will start from June 14 . Flydubai is the only airline in the UAE that offers direct flights to Tivat but it is a seasonal route,” Kanani said.

According to the flydubai website, their summer season flights between Dubai and Tivat will operate from June 14, 2024 to September 7, 2024 .

“Another condition is to have proof of a paid tourist arrangement. This basically means that your trip should be organised by a travel agency. You will be asked to provide a receipt or document of the tourist arrangement. You must also have proof of accommodation,” she added.

She also clarified that sometimes visa rules and requirements can change, so it’s always best to check with the Montenegro embassy directly.

“However, travel insurance or proof of financial support is not necessary for UAE residents. We would suggest asking the embassy of Montenegro directly for specific information because rules can change,” Kanani said.

How to apply for a Montenegro tourist visa from the UAE?

If you are not eligible for visa on arrival, you can still go ahead and apply for a tourist visa.

“Montenegro is a popular destination for UAE residents because it’s a European country that is not in the Schengen zone, so the visa process is a little easier,” Husham Kattingeri, an outbound travel supervisor at Regal Tours Worldwide, told Gulf News.

Montenegro is a popular destination for UAE residents because it’s a European country that is not in the Schengen zone, so the visa process is a little easier - Husham Kattingeri, an outbound travel supervisor at Regal Tours Worldwide

Kattingeri explained that you can apply for a tourist visa through a travel agent or go to the Montenegro embassy to fill out the visa application form.

“It’s important to note that your personal appearance in the embassy in Abu Dhabi is required if the visa is processed and approved, and only then will they stamp the visa in the passport, which will be returned on the same day,” he said.

Required documents:

As per Kattingeri, these are required documents for the tourist visa:

• Passport copy and UAE residence visa copy. • Passport-sized coloured photo (35x45 mm in JPEG format). • Proof of accommodation. • Bank account statement for the last three months. • Return flight ticket. • Travel health insurance valid in Montenegro for the duration of stay. • Employment certificate mentioning monthly salary.

How long does it take to receive the visa?

According to Kattingeri, it takes 29 working days for the visa to be processed.

What is the validity of the tourist visa?

“There is no standard duration or validity for the tourist visa, it is decided by the embassy,” he said.

Cost – “The embassy fee for the visa application is Dh160 and the travel agency fee to complete the process can vary from Dh500 to Dh800 ,” Kattingeri said.

UAE citizens with a valid passport can stay in Montenegro for up to 90 days without a visa.

Do you need a visa to go to Qatar?

Citizens of many countries can head to Doha visa free © Maja Topcagic / Stocksy United

Home to one of the world’s best airports, Qatar is an attractive layover destination. But why not extend your transit stop? Many nationalities are eligible for visa-free entry to Qatar, so you can leave the airport and start exploring with minimal hassle.

The visa requirements for entering Qatar depend on your nationality. For most travelers, visiting for tourism is straightforward, but the logistics of getting into the country can be more time-consuming and expensive if your home country is not on the list for visa-exempt travel.

Here’s our guide to Qatar’s entry requirements, with information on visa types, costs, and details on how to apply for one.

What you need to know about visas in Qatar

Hukoomi , Qatar’s official e-government portal, has a helpful online guide to the visas available for travel to Qatar. Visa applications are typically easily made via the MOI website, which has a handy tool to check whether you need a visa .

Citizens of more than 90 countries are eligible for visa-free entry into Qatar, with varying maximum lengths of stay depending on your nationality. Travelers from eligible countries can obtain a visa waiver on arrival to Qatar upon presentation of a valid passport with a minimum of six months’ validity and a confirmed onward ticket.

For nationals of approximately 40 countries – including many European destinations – the visa waiver is valid for 180 days from the date of issuance and entitles its holder to spend up to 90 days in Qatar during a single trip or on multiple trips.

For nationals of approximately 50 other countries, including the US, Australia, the UK, Canada, and South Africa, visa-free stays are limited to 30 days, with the possibility to extend for an additional 30 days after you arrive for a fee of QR200. India and Pakistan are also on this list but there are currently additional requirements, including a hotel booking made via the Discover Qatar website. Pakistani nationals must also present proof of polio vaccination.

If you’re a citizen or resident of another Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) country (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, or the United Arab Emirates), you can obtain a one-month GCC Resident Visit Visa on arrival or through a Qatari embassy, though you’ll need to provide proof that you work in one of around 200 eligible professions. The official list of approved careers is in Arabic, but translations can be found on other websites. This visa is renewable for an additional three months.

Visitors from most other countries can apply for a 30-day tourist visa in advance. You will likely be required to supply additional documentation and pay a fee. Visitors from Israel are not typically allowed to enter Qatar.

Does Qatar have a working holiday visa?

Qatar does not offer a working holiday visa. Student visas are available for international students wishing to study at Qatar’s universities, and several visas are available for business travelers.

What are the visa rules for visiting Qatar during the 2022 FIFA World Cup?

If you are planning to travel to Qatar between November 1, 2022, and January 23, 2023, you need to apply for a Hayya Card , which provides entry to Qatar, regardless of whether you are intending to attend a World Cup game. Ticket holders from Israel are permitted to enter Qatar for the tournament.

For the latest Qatar visa information, visit the Ministry of Interior (MOI) website or contact a Qatar consulate in your region.
