For work visa, a work permit is required and the later is a dependent long term stay visa. For both the instances a sponsorship is mandatory for issue of visa. A company when employing foreign workers becomes the sponsor for the person depending on which the visa is issued. For independent business a Partner’s Visa is issued which is renewed every three years.

What if someone is found working without work permit?

According to the UAE government rules the person is allowed to work only for the company which is sponsoring him and none other than that. Violating these rules will lead to a fine/imprisonment or deployment. The sponsor is also charged on the same grounds where employment is provided to someone not sponsored by him. A minimum fine of AED 50,000 is charged in this case. This holds good for individuals on dependent visa without work permit. If caught working for anyone other than the sponsor, violation penalties remain the same as above.

How is a work permit obtained?

Work permit is generally done through the company working for. They apply and process the Labor Card based on the foreign employment quota. For setting up a business one needs a local citizen as a sponsor in order to process the work visa.

Women and Children

The UAE culture is very protective of women and children and this extends to all its visitors. It is proud of its reputation as one of the safest countries in the world in which to live and to travel. The UAE Visit Visa Rules reflect this by imposing age restrictions to ensure the wellbeing of females and youngsters alike. If you are a female and want to travel to the UAE alone, you must be 18 years of age or above. If you are under 18, you should be accompanied by your parents or guardian. And as a bonus, from July 15 to September 15 each year, your visa will come compliments of the UAE

UAE Visit Visa Validity

If you plan to extend or renew your Visit Visa, you should first know how long it is valid for. You will also want to know whether you get a grace period when the visa expires. This is important because overstaying your visa’s validity period can incur heavy fines.

  • Validity Period: Every type of UAE Visit Visa has its own validity period which dictates how long you can stay. If you don’t have a grace period and remain in the country after expiry, you are ‘overstaying your visa’. For example, a 30-day single-entry visit visa will expire 30 days from your entry date. Similarly a 60-day multiple-entry visit visa will expire 60 days from your first entry but this visa does, of course, allow you to leave and re-enter the UAE numerous times within the 60 days
  • Grace Period: When your UAE Visit Visa expires, you only qualify for a grace period if it is an On-Arrival visa for specific nationalities. The grace period is the time you are allowed to stay in the UAE after your official expiry date. It is a ‘courtesy extension’ and, during this time, you will not be charged any overstaying penalties. If, however, you have a Prepaid Visit Visa, there is no grace period and the expiry date strictly applies.

Extending UAE Visit Visa

If you entered the UAE with a prepaid visa, you can extend it twice. The first extension will be for 30 days and the second will get you another 30 days. Indeed, there are a number of different ways to extend your stay in the UAE, These include crossing the border to a neighboring country or doing the airport to airport visa change. Every year many thousands of visitors to the UAE decide they want to stay longer than originally planned. At Arabiers we know all the options – and take delight in helping you extend your UAE experience.

The UAE Mission Visa is a special entry permit issued to professionals traveling to work short-term with a UAE-based company. When you are employed under this visa, the UAE authority considers you to be a ‘probational employee’. The mission visa can only be issued by certain registered UAE companies, so keep in touch with your potential employer. Also note that the Mission Visa is a single-entry visa valid for 90 days. So, if you leave the country before the 90 days are up, your visa gets cancelled automatically. If you have a mission visa, you cannot transfer to a visit visa or apply for a new permit. You must first cancel the mission visa by exiting the country – and only then can you apply anew.

What do you do if you have received a UAE Visit Visa but are now not going to use it? To avoid issues with the immigration authorities, you should cancel it in 30 days. You will be required to pay up to AED 300 to cancel an unused visa. Alternatively you can choose to extend the visa for two months at a cost of AED 200. You should cancel an unused fee because you cannot apply for a new one when the old one has still not been used.

Here is a quick guide on what is allowed and what is prohibited with a UAE visa:

  • Engage in tourism activities, visit family and friends in any emirate and attend meetings and conferences.
  • Attend job interviews and prepare to apply for a Residence Visa when you join the UAE workforce.
  • Plan to start a new business in the UAE or buy a property. You can do the initial business and property gap research while on a visit visa.
  • Work or volunteer to work for a UAE company, whether paid or unpaid.
  • Open a bank account, or start a business, (you need a Residence Visa and Emirates ID to do that).
  • Beg in the streets and you are liable to be fined AED 5,000. And that’s just the start – you could also be jailed for up to three months. Those operating gangs of beggars, or recruiting people to work as beggars, face even stiffer penalties. They will be fined a minimum of AED 100,000 and imprisoned for not less than 6 months.
  • Illegal activities such as prostitution, child trafficking, smuggling and other criminal acts.

If you need to make your UAE Visit Visa application quickly, do so during the working week. In the UAE, immigration offices work four and a half days from Monday to Friday noon. You are therefore advised to apply during that timeframe so that we can process it with the authorities faster. You should first apply for the visit visa and, when approved, you can then book your flight to the UAE.

You are not allowed to work in the UAE without a valid UAE work visa that has been issued by the MOHRE. It is therefore illegal to work with a visit visa in the UAE.

You must have a hard copy of your UAE visa where entering the UAE, and show it to the screening counters in Airports or borders in the UAE. You should therefore print a copy of your UAE visa before leaving your country so that you can show it to the immigration officers.

Visitors to the UAE can now come to the country on a three-month visa, Khaleej Times can reveal.

A call centre executive at the Federal Authority For Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) said that people who want to visit the UAE for 90 days can make use of the opportunity. “They should consult their travel agents who will help them in issuing the 90-days visit visa,” said the call centre executive.

According to industry experts, this visa was introduced by the end of May 2023, allowing visitors to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days. The visa can be extendable within the country at an additional cost based on the service provider.

Residents are not aware of this three-month visa, Libin Varghese, sales director at Rooh Tourism LLC, said.

According to industry experts, this was reintroduced by the end of May 2023, allowing visitors to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days.

Different types of entry permits

“There are two types of entry permits — a tourist visa or a leisure visa and a visit visa. A tourist visa is issued for 30 or 60 days. The visit visa is issued for 90 days,” said Subair Thekepurathvalappil, senior manager for inbound and outbound operations at Regal Tours Worldwide, adding that this extended visit visa complements the existing tourist visa options, which includes a 30-day or 60-day stay, offering travellers greater flexibility in planning their itineraries.

The 30-day and the recently introduced 60-day tourist visas have long been popular among visitors seeking shorter stays in the UAE, providing ample time to explore the country's iconic landmarks and indulge in world-class shopping and dining experiences.

Who can apply?

Industry experts said that anyone can apply for this visa. “Currently, we have not received much inquiry about it, and visitors who prefer this entry permit are their family members residing in the UAE, as they want to spend a longer time. Take for instance, if a child who is studying in his home country visits UAE during vacations or parents of a resident,” said Varghese.

The fee for a 90-day-visit visa varies depending on your issuing travel expert, with a starting price of Dh1,500 and can go up to Dh2,000, which can even be extended within the country. “The exact details of extension has not been announced as the visa was introduced a few days ago,” said Varghese.

Documents required

According to Subair, one must submit the following documents if planning to apply for the long term visit visa:

  • Recent passport-size coloured photograph
  • Passport copy
  • Processing time

“Once a person applies for this visa, it may take up to five working days. But we can even receive it in two days,” said Subair.

Tips for Minimising 2-Year Employment Visa Costs in Dubai

1. Negotiate Visa Expenses With Your Employer:- Discussing visa expenses with your employer before accepting a job offer is essential. Some employers cover the total cost of the visa, while others may expect employees to contribute. Negotiate a fair contribution amount if you are expected to bear some expenses.

2. Avoid Using Visa Processing Agencies:- Visa processing agencies can be convenient, but they can also be expensive. Instead of using a visa processing agency, complete the visa application process directly with the relevant authorities to save costs.

3. Plan:- Planning is essential to minimising visa expenses. Applying for a visa during peak seasons, such as summer, can result in higher fees due to increased demand. Apply for your visa during low seasons to save on costs.

4. Avoid Unnecessary Services:- Visa application centres often offer additional services, such as priority processing, which can significantly increase the cost of your visa. Avoid unnecessary services that can increase the cost of your visa.
