Guidelines for International Arrivals (in supersession of guidelines issued on the subject on 22 nd December 2022)

Introduction

Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has issued ‘Guidelines for International Arrivals’ in context of COVID-19 pandemic and updated the same from time to time. The present guidelines are being revised in light of increasing trajectory of COVID-19 cases being noted in some countries across the world.

This document provides protocols to be complied by international travellers as well as points of entry (airports, seaports and land border) and shall be valid for all flights landing in India w.e.f. 1 st January, 2023 (10.00 Hrs IST) till further orders.

A.1. Planning for Travel

i. All travellers should preferably be fully vaccinated as per the approved primary schedule of vaccination against COVID-19 in their Country.

ii. Additional requirements apply to passengers in all international flights from certain high risk countries*. Such travellers would be required to:

   a. Submit complete and factual information in self-declaration form on the online Air Suvidha portal ( newdelhiairport.in ) before the scheduled travel, including last 14 days’ travel details.

   b. Upload negative COVID-19 RT-PCR report** on the Air Suvidha portal (The test should have been conducted within 72 hrs prior to undertaking the journey).

   c. Each passenger shall also submit a declaration with respect to authenticity of the report and will be liable for criminal prosecution, if found otherwise

   d. They should also give an undertaking on the portal or otherwise to Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, through concerned airlines before they are allowed to undertake the journey that they would abide by the decision of the appropriate government authority for any post arrival requirement including home/institutional quarantine/ self-health monitoring, as warranted.

A.2. During Travel

iii. In-flight announcement about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic including precautionary measures to be followed (preferable use of masks and following physical distancing) shall be made in flights/travel and at all points of entry.

iv. Any passenger having symptoms of COVID-19 during travel shall be isolated as per standard protocol i.e. the said passenger should be wearing mask, isolated and segregated from other passengers in flight/travel and shifted to an isolation facility subsequently for follow up treatment.

A.3. On arrival

v.  De-boarding should be done ensuring physical distancing.

vi. Thermal screening should be done in respect of all the passengers by the health officials present at the point of entry.

vii. The passengers found to be symptomatic during screening shall be immediately isolated, taken to a designated medical facility as per health protocol (as above).

viii. The following protocol post arrival shall also be followed:

   a) A sub-section (2% of the total passengers** in all incoming international flights) shall undergo random post arrival testing at the airport on arrival, irrespective of port of departure.

   b) Such travellers in each flight shall be identified by the concerned airlines (preferably from different countries). They will submit the samples and shall be allowed to leave the airport thereafter.

   c) If such travellers’ samples are tested positive, their samples should be further sent for genomic testing at INSACOG laboratory network.

   d) They shall be treated/isolated as per laid down standard protocol.

ix. All travellers should self-monitor their health post arrival also shall report to their nearest health facility or call National helpline number (1075)/ State Helpline Number in case they have any symptoms suggestive of COVID-19.

* China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Japan

** Children under 12 years of age are exempted from both pre-departure and post-arrival random testing. However, if found symptomatic for COVID-19 on arrival or during the period of self-monitoring period, they shall undergo testing and treated as per laid down protocol.

Every Indian has a dream of visiting the USA, but to visit the US you need A US Visa.  The US Visa for Indian passport holders allows you to enter the country legally. But do you know that the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in India are processing your U.S. visas? This visa processing can be complex as there are lots of challenges involved.

And also there are some specific requirements needed in the processing which are complicated to understand even for some smart people. If they fail to fulfil those requirements, their visa might get denied , which can affect their future visa applications.

Unfortunately, if you're an Indian planning to visit the United States, there's no visa on arrival option. You'll need to apply for a visa beforehand using the regular process mentioned earlier. Make sure to apply well ahead of your travel date for a hassle-free experience.

Tourist Visa (B-1/B-2):

This is the most common type of visa for short-term visits to the US for tourism or leisure. You can also use this visa for business meetings, conferences, or social events.

Business Visa (B-1):

This visa is for business travel activities such as attending conferences, negotiating contracts, or conducting market research.

Work Visa (H-1B, H-2B, etc.):

These visas are for temporary or permanent work in the US. You will need a job offer from a US employer to apply for a work visa.

1. Determine the Type of Visa

3. Pay the Visa Application Fee

Pay the non-refundable visa application fee. The fee varies based on the type of visa.

• Payment can be made online or at designated bank locations.
• Keep the receipt as you will need the payment confirmation for scheduling your interview.

4. Schedule Visa Appointments

You need to schedule two appointments:

• Visa Application Center (VAC) Appointment : For fingerprinting and photograph.
• Consular Interview : At the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

5. Visit the Visa Application Center (VAC)

On the date of your VAC appointment:

• Bring your passport, DS-160 confirmation page, and appointment confirmation.
• Your fingerprints and photograph will be taken.

6. Attend the Consular Interview

On the date of your interview:

• Bring your passport, DS-160 confirmation page, appointment confirmation, visa fee receipt, and any other required documents (such as evidence of financial support, intent to return to India, or educational credentials).
• Arrive early and be prepared to answer questions about your trip.

7. Wait for Visa Processing

After the interview, your application will undergo administrative processing, which can take some time. You will be informed about the decision:

• Approved : Your passport will be returned to you with the visa.
• Denied : You will be informed about the reason for the denial.

8. Receive Your Passport and Visa

If approved, your passport will be delivered to the address you specified when scheduling your appointment or you can pick it up from the designated location.

There is no E-visa option available for Indian Citizens applying for a US visa. The US visa application process for Indian citizens is entirely traditional and requires going through the US embassy or consulate in India.

Privacy notice

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires you to provide your full name, date of birth, and gender for watch list screening under the authority of 49 USC Section 114, the intelligence reform and terrorism prevention act of 2004 and 49 CFR Parts 1540 and 1560. You may also provide your redress number if available. Failure to provide your full name, date of birth, and gender may result in denial of transport or authority to enter the boarding areas. TSA may share information you provide with law enforcement, intelligence agencies, or others under its published system of records notice. Passengers travelling to, out of, and over the US must provide the following mandatory Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) and Advance Passenger Information (APIS) to the airline when making a reservation through a travel agent or directly with the airline. This data must be forwarded to the TSA responsible for the screening process to enable the pre-screening of passengers 72 hours before the flight's departure.

Please follow the steps below before your immigrant visa interview at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India.

Step 1: Register your appointment online and submit fingerprints

You need to register your appointment online and schedule a time to visit the Visa Application Center (VAC) before your visa interview. At the VAC, you will provide fingerprints and take photos. Registering your appointment also provides us with the information we need to return your passport to you after your interview. Registration is free. Click the “Register” link below to register.

Medical Examination and Vaccination Instructions

List of Approved Panel Physician Sites

Now that you are intending to apply for an Immigrant/K visa, the U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai has authorized the physicians listed below to administer your medical examination. Please make your examination arrangements with any panel physician site on the list at least seven days before your immigrant visa appointment. 

Please carry the following items for each family member: 

• Original appointment letter;
• Passport; 
• Four recent photographs;
• All medical records of vaccinations, prior illnesses or treatments. You must discuss your medical history and current conditions, including, but not limited to, pregnancy, diabetes, hypertension and other conditions and medications taken, with the physician. 
• DS-260 confirmation page

These physicians are licensed to practice locally and the examinations they give to visa applicants conform to standards prescribed by the United States Public Health Service. Any attempt by an applicant to influence the panel physician’s medical judgment will reflect unfavorably on the visa application. 

The physician may need four to seven days to prepare the results of your medical examination. Collect the report from the panel physician and bring it to the Consulate on the day of your visa interview. 

* Adult examination includes: Physical exam, Chest X-Ray, VDRL, Gonorrhea testing, TB testing, TB screening, and TB treatment (if necessary), as required by the Technical Instructions.

* * Children 2-14 years examination includes: Physical exam, IGRA testing, TB screening, and TB treatment (if necessary) as required by the Technical Instructions.

Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant and K visa applicants are required to verify that applicants have met certain vaccination requirements, or that it is medically inappropriate for an applicant to receive one or more of the following vaccinations:

DT/DTP/DTaP, Td, Polio (OPV/IPV), Measles (or MR or MMR), Mumps (or MMR), Rubella (or MR or MMR), Rotavirus, Hib (Haemophilus Influenzae Type B), Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Meningococcal, Varicella, Pneumococcal, and Influenza.

If you have already received some or all of the required vaccinations, you should bring your vaccination records with you to your medical exam for verification. Physicians at the panel sites listed below can determine which of the listed vaccinations are medically appropriate for you given your age, medical history, and current medical condition. Only vaccinations verified or administered at the panel sites listed below will be accepted by the Consulate.

After the medical exam

When your examination is completed, the doctor will either provide you with exam results in a sealed envelope or send them directly to the U.s. Consulate. The physician may need four to seven days to prepare the results of your medical exam. You may need to return to the clinic at a later date to pick up your exam results. IF GIVEN AN ENVELOPE TO CARRY TO YOUR INTERVIEW,   DO NOT OPEN THIS ENVELOPE. Instead, bring it to your visa interview.

Any x-rays taken will be given to you. You DO NOT need to bring the x-rays to your visa interview unless you suffer from tuberculosis (TB). However, you must carry the x-rays with you when you travel to the United States for the first time. The medical report must be less than six months old when you enter the United States as an immigrant.

NOTE: Your visa interview will not be conducted if you do not have a completed medical report from the panel physician. In case of unexpected delays in processing of your medical report, please contact this office by email at [email protected] to reschedule your appointment.

Pre-Interview checklist

Please use the list below to determine the items that the applicant must bring to the immigrant visa interview:

A copy of your NVC interview letter (does not apply to Diversity Visa, fiancé(e), adoptive, or asylee/refugee applicants).

Unexpired passport valid for six (6) months beyond your intended date of entry to the United States  and  a photocopy of the biographic page.

Two (2) color photographs of each person applying for a visa (5 cm x 5 cm, or 2 inch x 2 inch).  Please review our  online photo requirements.

Confirmation page from the Form DS-260 Application for an Immigrant Visa you submitted online at  ceac.state.gov/iv .

Your  original  birth certificate , English translation,  and  a photocopy.

Medical examination results in a sealed envelope ( if the physician gives you these results) .

Original or certified copies of birth certificates for all children of the principal applicant (even if he or she is not accompanying).

Applicants who fall into any category below should bring these additional documents

For family-based visa applications:

• The appropriate  Form I-864 Affidavit of Support  for  each  financial sponsor along with a photocopy of the sponsor’s IRS transcript or most recent U.S. federal income tax return, and any relevant W-2s. 
• Proof of your U.S. petitioner’s status and domicile in the United States (photocopy of a U.S. passport, naturalization certificate, or lawful permanent resident card).
• Evidence of the relationship between the petitioner and visa applicant(such as photographs, letters, or emails).

If you are married : Your  original  marriage certificate, English translation,  and  a photocopy.

If you were previously married:   Your  original  divorce or spouse’s death certificate, English translation,  and  a photocopy.

If you are older than 16 years of age:   The  original   police certificate from your country of current residence and countries of previous residence. If these three items are  all  true, you must bring a more recent police certificate to the interview:

• You are older than 16 years of age;
• You obtained a police certificate and submitted it to NVC more than one year ago; and
• You still live in the country that issued the police certificate.

For employment-based visa applications:  A letter from your U.S. employer dated less than one month ago.

If you have ever been convicted of a crime:  Court and criminal records, English translation, and a photocopy.

If you have served in any country’s military:  Military records, English translation, and a photocopy.

If you are adopted:   Adoption papers or custody documents, English translation,  and  a photocopy.

If you are the petitioner’s stepchild:   The  original  marriage certificate of the petitioner and your biological parent, English translation,  and  a photocopy along with divorce records for any previous marriages of either parent.

Interview Guidelines

Sending documents to the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi

If you need to send us any documents, please DO NOT mail them to us directly. Instead, visit ustraveldocs.com and ask for information on courier services. Please do not send any original documents to us. You may bring original documents (plus a photocopy for the embassy’s files) to your visa interview.

Rescheduling or cancelling your interview

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please go to ustraveldocs.com to select a new appointment date. There may be a significant wait before the next available appointment, so please attempt to attend the date already assigned.  There may be a significant wait before the next available appointment , so please attempt to attend the date already assigned. For some family-based and employment preference visa categories, a visa became available within the month you have been scheduled by NVC.  There is no guarantee that a visa will still be available on the date of your rescheduled interview . Please carefully consult the Visa Bulletin before you decide to reschedule your interview.

Please note: You need to register your original NVC/KCC appointment online (see Step 1 ) before you can reschedule it. Rescheduling is only possible on a date after your assigned appointment.

Security screening procedures

All visitors to the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi must follow certain security procedures. Any visitor who declines to be screened by U.S. Embassy security personnel will be unable to enter the embassy. To avoid delaying your entry and that of those in line behind you, please bring only what is required for your interview.

Accompanying persons

The following persons may accompany a visa applicant to their interview:

• Interpreter: Applicants may bring ONE interpreter if they do not speak English, Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam, Tibetan, or Tamil well enough to participate in an interview.
• Special Needs Visitors: Applicants may bring ONE person to help if they are elderly, disabled, or a minor child.

Attorneys are not permitted to accompany clients into the waiting room or to their interview.

Immigrant visa fees

If you have not paid all required fees to either the National Visa Center or via the appointment website, please be prepared to pay these fees on the day of your interview. All fees may be paid in either U.S. dollars or the Indian Rupee equivalent. We accept cash and rupee bank drafts only. Bank drafts may only be from a nationalized or foreign bank and must be issued in the name of “American Embassy, New Delhi.” Check the consular rate of exchange at ustraveldocs.com the day before your interview. Please note that if you are found ineligible to receive a visa, the application fee cannot be refunded. A list of fees can be found Fees for Visa Services webpage .

Do not make travel plans outside of India

If your visa is approved, we will keep your passport at the embassy while we prepare your immigration packet and print a visa for your passport. We will return your passport to you later via courier services only (see Step 1 ). If you have to travel within India while your passport is still with us, please make sure you have a valid picture ID other than your passport.

After Your Visa Interview

A Consular officer can make a decision on a visa application only after reviewing the formal application and interviewing the applicant. There is no guarantee that you will receive a visa. Do not sell your house, car or property, resign from your job or make non-refundable flight or other travel arrangements until you have received your immigrant visa.

If more information is needed

Sometimes a Consular officer is unable to make a decision on a visa application because he/she needs to review additional documents or the case requires further administrative processing. When additional documents are requested, the Consular officer will give you a refusal letter that asks you to submit additional documents. The letter will include instructions on how to send those documents to the Embassy.

Administrative processing takes additional time after the interview. Most administrative processing is resolved within 60 days. However, the timing varies based on the circumstances of each case. Before inquiring about the status of administrative processing, please wait at least 60 days after your interview.

What happens after visa approval

Passport, Visa, and Sealed Immigrant Packet – We will place your immigrant visa on a page in your passport. Please review your visa to make sure there are no spelling errors. We will also give you a sealed envelope containing documents that you must give to U.S. immigration authorities when you arrive in the United States for the first time . Do not open this envelope. You must carry it with you; do not put it in your checked luggage. If you receive X-rays during your medical examination, carry those with you and give them to the U.S. immigration authorities.

USCIS Immigrant Fee – All individuals who are issued immigrant visas overseas must pay an Immigrant Fee to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) prior to traveling to the United States. This fee is for processing your residency status and printing your Permanent Resident Card. The only people exempt from paying this fee are: children entering the United States under the Hague Process, returning residents, and people traveling on a K visa.

When You Should Travel – You must enter the United States before the expiration date on your visa, which is usually six months from the date of printing. Your visa cannot be extended and all fees are nonrefundable. The principal applicant must enter before or at the same time as other family members with visas. Unless they are eligible for benefits under the Child Status Protection Act, children who are issued a visa before turning 21 years of age must enter the United States before their 21st birthday to avoid losing their immigrant status.

Getting a Green Card – Your Form I-551 Permanent Resident Card, also known as a green card, will be automatically mailed to the address in the United States that you write in your visa application form. This is a very important document that proves you have permission to reside in the United States. If you plan to travel outside the U.S. before your green card arrives: Please consult USCIS’s and CBP’s websites for rules about what documents you need to re-enter the country. Once your card is issued, you should not stay outside of the United States for more than one year. If you do, you will lose your status as a Lawful Permanent Resident.

Children’s Issues – In the United States, children are required to have certain vaccinations before they can enroll in school. We recommend that you bring your child’s complete vaccination records with you to the United States. If your child is adopted, you have full custody as a result of a divorce, or you share custody with another parent, you should bring a copy of all applicable adoption or custodial papers from the authoritative court in your home country. You will need these papers (translated into English) for issues such as school enrollment, medical care, and eventual citizenship.

Passport Collection Documents for USA Visa in India

The following documents need to presented for passport collection (witj your visa) after your U.S. visa is approved in India:

• Your original (not a photocopy) Indian government-issued photo ID
• Original government-issued photo ID of the representative and one copy
• Photocopy of the applicant’s Indian government-issued photo ID
• Original authorization letter signed by the applicant, authorizing the representative to collect the passport.
• A photocopy of the applicant’s Indian government-issued photo ID. Birth certificate or school ID card is acceptable.
• Representative’s original Indian government-issued photo ID and 1 photocopy
• An original, signed authorization letter from either of the applicant’s parents
• A photocopy of the Indian government-issued photo ID of the parent who signed the applicant’s letter of authority

For the security of your passports, they can not be delivered if all of the above documents are not produced. You must also sign for all documents handed over to you by the courier.

Authorization Letter

Original authorization letter must contain the following information:

• Each applicant’s name and passport number
• Original signature of each applicant
• Full name of the representative as mentioned on his/her Indian government-issued photo ID

Sample Authorization Letter

• The Indian government-issued photo ID can be the biographic information page of the passport, a voter ID, PAN Card, a driver’s license, or an Aadhar card. An employment ID card from an Indian government job, senior citizen card, etc. are not acceptable.
• A copy of your appointment letter along with the above supporting documents is preferred
• Children below the age of 18 years can not pick up their own passport. Either any one parent can collect on behalf of their child as per the requirements above, or any one parent can authorize a representative by following the requirements listed above.

Collecting Returned Passports

If you don’t collect the passports within 14 calendar days from the Visa Application Center or within 7 working days from Blue Dart location, it will be returned to the respective US Embassy/Consulate, and you will need to pick it up directly from the US Embassy/Consulate, according to the following schedule:

You must visit the Embassy or Consulate on Tuesday only. An appointment is not required.

• Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM 
• Mumbai and New Delhi Nonimmigrant visa and immigrant visa  2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

You will need the original Indian government-issued ID to pick up the passport. In case of a representative, they should carry an original, signed authority letter from the applicant with the representative’s original Indian government-issued ID .

NIMCET 2024 Counseling Registration from tomorrow: Check steps to apply and list of documents required

NIMCET 2024 Counseling: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur will open the registration for National Institute of Technology MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) 2024 counselling on June 29, 2024. Eligible students who passed the NIMCET 2024 exam can participate in the counselling process through the official website at nimcet.admissions.nic.in.

Students will be able to register, fill their choices, and lock them until July 5, 2024. As per the counselling schedule, the results for the first round of seat allotment will be announced on July 8, 2024. Candidates from the general category need to pay an application fee of Rs 2,500 for NIMCET counselling 2024, while those from reserved categories are required to pay Rs 1,250.

Etihad offers pioneering live online advice for guest travel requirements

• New system gives travellers comprehensive overview of their visa, passport and health requirements prior to booking
• Easy to use system draws from the most up-to-date source of requirements to ensure passengers are equipped with the right documents.

Abu Dhabi, UAE – Etihad Airways has launched an innovative online chat feature designed to ensure its guests have the latest accurate information on the documents they need before they travel.

The system can be accessed through the airline’s online chat feature on etihad.com, found in the ‘Get In Touch’ section of the Help page . Simply choose the Travel Guidelines and Transit Information in the chat’s menu option. This guides customers through a series of questions and then lists the visa, ticket and travel documents they need, along with any other requirements.

John Wright, Etihad’s Chief Operations and Guest Officer, said: "We know how important it is for our guests to feel assured that they have the right documents for their journey ahead of travel.

“This online feature is fed automatically by the very latest information supplied by IATA’s Timatic solution, which is the world-leader in providing real-time information on travel document requirements for international air travel, relied on by the travel industry and government authorities worldwide.”

Frederic Leger, IATA’s Senior Vice President Products and Services, said: “Helping guests prepare for their journey is a key element for a smooth travel experience and regulatory compliance.

“Etihad’s initiative to provide visa information via chatbot opens a further channel for passengers to check their travel requirements and supports the automation of the travel experience. IATA is proud to enable and assist this great initiative through its new Timatic AutoCheck.”

The introduction of the automated feature relieves the need for guests to invest valuable time scouring the internet or contacting customer service centers to confirm their travel documentation requirements.

How India-China Direct Flights Went From 539 … to Zero

Two tourism powerhouses, two economic giants, two of the world's most populous countries — and yet, not a single direct flight between India and China.

In December 2019, India and China were connected through 539 direct passenger flights. Now there are none.

IndiGo and Air India had operated flights to China while Air China, China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines, had connected Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou to Indian cities.

The two countries suspended these flights during the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent border clashes in June 2020 – there are still thousands of troops mobilized on both sides.

A recent Reuters report said that China has been pushing to resume direct air links between the two countries, but India remains cautious due to the strained diplomatic relations.

Current Travel Routes and Costs

In the absence of direct flights, travelers between India and China must rely on connecting flights through third countries, such as Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Singapore. The detour adds time and cost.

In 2019, a round-trip economy class ticket between New Delhi and Beijing typically ranged between $350 to $550, and took around six hours. Currently, the shortest flight duration between New Delhi and Beijing is 10.5 hours, with fares around $1,280. The cheapest available flights take roughly 12 hours and cost $650.

“China’s strict Covid-19 travel policies, including the ‘circuit-breaker’ rule which suspended flights if passengers tested positive upon arrival, further complicated the resumption of direct flights,” said Linus Benjamin Bauer, founder and managing director of Bauer Aviation Advisory. Although China has relaxed this rule, it has not yet led to the resumption of direct flights, Bauer noted.

Visa Restrictions

Visa restrictions are also a barrier.

Nuo Li, a sustainable tourism consultant from Beijing, experienced this firsthand when applying for an Indian e-visa in March 2024 in London, where she currently lives.

Li first visited India in March 2019 on a straightforward double-entry e-visa to meet her boyfriend’s family in the southern Indian state of Kerala. This year, she found no travel visa category for Chinese nationals.

“During my appointment at the VFS office in London, the staff handling my application informed me that they could not accept my application and advised me to seek special approval from the Indian Embassy in London,” Li told Skift. She said she wrote to the Indian embassy but hasn’t received any response so far.

Responding to a Skift query, a VFS Global spokesperson said, “Chinese nationals applying for an Indian visa must submit their applications from their home country as per the directives of the High Commission of India.”

The spokesperson said that for further clarification, applicants would need to directly contact the High Commission of India in London.

The Consulate General of India’s office in Guangzhou states on its website that e-visas for Chinese nationals are “temporarily suspended.” “All those who have a compelling reason to visit India may contact the Embassy of India in Beijing or the Indian consulates in Shanghai or Guangzhou, as well as the Indian Visa Application Centres in these cities,” the notice reads.

Tourism Demand

Wolfgang Georg Arlt, a China tourism expert, noted that even before the pandemic, travel between India and China was relatively low, as most of the traffic was made up of business people, students or medical tourists.

Arlt, who is also the CEO of Chinese Outbound Tourism Research Institute (COTRI), cited COTRI research that highlighted that Chinese travelers have a negative perception of India, while Indians do not feel welcome in China.

Arlt said that while direct flights would help, improving political relations and addressing these negative perceptions would have a more significant impact on travel demand.

Mary Li, CEO and founder of travel tech startup Atlas , said that political tensions, changing policies and the pandemic have greatly affected travel between the two countries.

Despite this, Li said there is still significant demand for travel: Chinese travelers have conducted almost 24 million flight searches for India so far this year, according to Atlas data.

The most popular routes include Shanghai-Mumbai and Shanghai-Delhi, followed by Chengdu and Guangzhou as other popular departure cities.

Business Travel

Li said that many Chinese companies having stopped operations in India, and that this has led to a decline in business travel demand.

With 539 scheduled flights suspended, FCM Travel India has also seen a drop in business travel, said Sunny Sodhi, managing director of FCM Travel India.

“It is not just the lack of direct flights between India and China, but also the complexities around getting visa approvals which impact the ability and ease to travel between these two countries,” Sodhi said.

However, Sodhi noted that this has also led to Dubai emerging as a popular business hub for Indian travelers and Singapore for China. He said this is also backed by easing of visa processes between these countries.

Passport - You must submit your current and previous passports with your visa application. Your current passport must be valid for at least 3 months from your return date and have 2 blank pages. If you have any previous Schengen visas, submit copies of them with your application.

Photographs - 2 clear, high-resolution photographs in size 35 mm x 45 mm (width x height) taken no later than 6 months before the date of your visa application. Your face should be covering at least 80% of the photograph and no accessories should be worn.

Proof of Funds - You must provide your bank statements for the last 3 to 6 months to prove sufficient funds in your account to cover your expenses during the trip. Without this proof, your Schengen visa application will not be processed for approval.

Cover Letter - All applicants must provide a cover letter with their visa application form clearly highlighting their intent and duration of the visit to any of the Schengen countries. Moreover, the cover letter should also mention the details of the trip itinerary.

Flight Tickets - You must include your flight tickets to and from the applicable Schengen country with your application. This is a crucial visa requirement as it allows the approving authorities to validate your stay period against your cover letter. 

Proof of Accommodation —You must submit proof of your accommodation booking with the application form, as per the stay duration mentioned on the cover letter. If you are staying with a family member or friend, you will be required to submit the necessary proof for the same for approval.

Travel Insurance Certificate - Travel insurance for Schengen visa . Your visa application will be considered incomplete without the submission of a valid travel insurance certificate. Moreover, it helps cover medical expenses during health emergencies.  

Biometric Information - When you submit your visa application, you must also provide your biometric information (fingerprints) at the Visa Application Centre, Embassy, or Consulate. This applies to all first-time applicants or applicants who apply for a Schengen visa after 5 years from the last date of visa issuance. 

Schengen Student Visa Requirements for Indian Citizens - Type D Visa

Proof of Enrolment —You must submit proof of acceptance at a university or institute for a visa to any Schengen country. It can be an acceptance letter, an enrolment letter, valid ID documents provided by the respective institution, etc. 

Proof of Student Fees Payment —Some Schengen country visa applications might request proof of payment of education fees for a predetermined period to permit a student visa.

Language Proficiency - An English language proficiency test might also be required for a Type D student visa application in specific Schengen countries.

Academic Qualifications - You might be asked to submit additional proof of academic qualifications along with your visa application form and mandatory documents. This requirement varies from country to country.

Schengen Work Visa Requirements for Indian Citizens - Type D Visa
