Princess Cruises New Package Updates: Princess Plus, Princess Premier and Princess Standard

Since it’s debut a few years ago, Princess Plus has been very popular with cruise passengers. Cruisers could upgrade their cruise with extra amenities including a beverage package, crew gratuities and wifi, for a more “all-inclusive” type cruise experience.

The Princess Plus package has gone through some changes since its inception, including the option to upgrade to Princess Premier, which includes even more perks.

Recently, Princess Cruises announced bigger changes to the Princess cruise packages, including adding a Princess Standard package (basic cruise fare). This makes the Princess Plus and Premier an even better value, since there are new dining options included, as well as other extra inclusions.

There are now 3 types of Princess packages

What’s included in each package has changed and its important to know how these changes might affect you as a cruise passenger.

In this article you’ll find the details of what’s included in each package, including the cost and value. Whether you’re a first time Princess cruiser or a cruise veteran, this information will be helpful as you plan your cruise.

What is the Princess Cruises Princess Plus Package and What’s Included?

While Princess Plus and Princess Premier are a very good value, if you prefer a lower rate (without perks), this is still available. The “no extras” rate is now called Princess Standard.

If you’re wondering if Princess Plus is worth it, I’ll provide a cost comparison below where you can see if the value is there, for you.

What’s Included in the Princess Standard Package

The Princess Standard package is your basic cruise fare. For those who prefer to cruise without a beverage package and some of the extras, this can be the best value and most budget friendly Princess cruise option.

Princess Standard cruise fare includes your cruise ship cabin, all complimentary meals and drinks, entertainment, activities and Medallion class experience (medallion & lanyard , cruise line app & other features).

Complimentary meals on Princess Cruises include main dining rooms, the buffet, the International Cafe, a poolside pizza station, poolside grill (burgers etc.) and Swirls ice cream. Please note that venues may differ from ship to ship.

Not included in the Princess Standard fare

  • Princess Standard package does not include Ocean Now Delivery. Guests can add this on for $14.99 (one-time activation fee)
  • In cabin room service is $5 per delivery
  • Casual dining meals (ie. Alfredo’s, Gigi’s & O’Malleys) are $14.99 for a 3 course prix fixe sit down meal
  • Medallion shipping is not included

Cruise passengers sailing under the Princess Standard or basic fare can add these items separately.

Is Princess Plus Worth it? Cost Breakdown

At $60 per person, per day, there is a lot of value in the Princess Plus package. After all, the drink package, crew appreciation and wifi alone would add up to much more than $60 a day.

However, let’s break it down to see the actual cost and value of what’s included in Princess Plus.

Princess Cruises Plus Beverage Package

What’s included in the plus beverage package.

Princess Cruises Plus Beverage Package includes beer, spirits, wine by the glass and cocktails up to $15 each. It also includes many non-alcoholic drinks including bottled water, fountain soda, freshly squeezed juice, specialty coffees and teas, frappe’s and milkshakes and energy drinks.

There is a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks per person, per day. All other drinks all unlimited.

If you were to buy the Princess Plus drink package separately, the cost is $64.99 per person, per day, plus an 18% service charge. Therefore the actual cost, if you were to purchase the drink package on it’s own, is $76.70 per day.

There’s no reason to purchase the Princess Plus beverage package on it’s own. It’s actually cheaper to book with the Princess Plus package.

Princess cocktail menu beverage package

Important to note

The 18% service charge is included with Princess Plus. You won’t be charged extra “gratuities” when you book, or when you order a drink. However, crew will still be receiving the gratuities from Princess Cruises.

More information about all the Princess Drink Packages Packages can be found here . I’ve included details of the 4 drink packages, as well as photos of drinks and Princess bar menus .

What’s not included in the Princess Plus beverage package

The Princess Plus Beverage Package does not include wine bottles, one litre bottles of water, canned soda and juice bottles. However if you do wish to purchase any of these a 25% discount will be applied.

Also not included are souvenir glasses, room service and mini bar items.

Who can get the Princess Plus Beverage Package?

All passengers in the cabin can get the Premier Beverage Package, including third and fourth passengers. If those passengers are under 21 they will get the Zero-Alcohol Drink Package.

This non-alcoholic drink package includes all drinks in the Princess Plus Beverage Package, besides the alcohol. Mocktails are included. The regular price of the zero-alcohol drink package is $29.99 per person, per day (plus 18% gratuity).

With Princess Plus, 2 casual dining meals are included per person on a cruise. This includes 3 course (prix fixe) meals at the following casual dining venues on Princess cruise ships:

  • Alfredo’s or Gigis
  • Salty Dog Gastropub

  • Ocean Terrace

*restaurants vary by cruise ship

The cost of the casual dining restaurants is 14.99 per person. 2 meals per person are included, which is a value of almost $30 per passenger.

Ocean Now Delivery

Ocean Now Delivery is a pretty great service that’s available on Princess Cruises. Cruise passengers can order food, drinks and other items from the Medallion app on their phones. These items will be delivered to guests almost anywhere on the cruise ship!

For guests who have the Standard package, the cost for a one time activation fee is $14.99.

Unlimited Juice Bar

The juice bar includes fresh fruit and vegetable juice blends including the Immune Booster, the Nutter and the Tropical Twist.

The drinks at then juice bar range in price between $8-12 each. If you had 3-4 fresh juices during a cruise, this would add up to approximately $30 per guest.

Fitness Classes

With Princess Plus, cruisers can participate in 2 free fitness classes. These complimentary fitness are part of an exclusive partnership between Princess Cruises and Xponential Fitness. The classes available include Stretch Lab, Club Pilates and Cycle Bar.

On a recent cruise onboard the Enchanted Princess, we tried a Stretch Club class and really enjoyed it!

The cost of each fitness class, if purchased a la carte is $30. 2 classes have a value of $60 per passenger, per cruise.

Premium Desserts

Princess-Premium-Desserts

Premium desserts are decadent ice cream sundae like elaborate confections. Although you can have up to 2 premium desserts per day, I don’t think many people do (they are sweet!).

Premium desserts are $12 each. The value of this really depends on how many you want to try. There are currently 6 flavors, plus an option to add an “adult” twist. For $2 extra you can add a shot of liquor to your Princess premier dessert.

Medallion Shipping

Guests who book with the Princess Plus or Premier packages get free shipping of their medallion to their home before their cruise. Included Medallion shipping is available to cruise passengers in the US, and more recently, in Canada.

How Much Does Princess Plus Cost and Is it Worth it?

princess cruises princess plus

Since Princess gives passengers a choice between a lower cruise only Standard package fare and one with “perks”, Princess Plus will be more expensive. However, for many passengers, the Princess Plus value is worth the additional cost.

Currently, the cost of Princess Plus is an additional $60 USD per person, per day. According to Princess Cruises, this is more than a 50% savings over buying each item separately.

Cost breakdown estimate if you were to purchase each item separately:

  • Plus beverage package – $76.70 per person, per day (including 18% service charge)
  • Unlimited Wifi – $9.99 per person, per day
  • Prepaid gratuities – $16.00-18.00 per person, per day (depends on cabin type)

  • 2 Premium Desserts – $12-14 each
  • Medallion shipping – $10

TOTAL VALUE of PRINCESS PLUS = approximately $130 per person, per day

*For those not drinking alcohol, the value of the premium or coffee and soda package is $29.99 USD per person, per day, plus an 18% service charge.

Is Princess Plus Worth it?

If you drink 2 drinks or more per day, plan on paying crew gratuities and will purchase a wifi package, Princess Plus is most definitely worth it. However, when I did the math, even for those who don’t drink alcohol, there is still a lot of value in the benefits of the Princess Plus package.

With some of the new changes to the standard Princess cruise fare, Princess Plus has actually increased in value. At $60 per person per day, included room service delivery, Ocean Now delivery and casual dining options are things many Princess cruisers appreciate.

Other benefits, including fitness classes and premium desserts, will have more or less value to different passengers, depending on what you enjoy most on a cruise.

That being said, for many cruise passengers the biggest benefit of Princess Plus is the ease and enjoyment of knowing so much is included in their cruise.

Princess Plus vs Princess Premier

There are a several differences between Princess Plus and Princess Premier. While many cruise passengers say that Princess Plus is worth it, there’s more debate on the value of Princess Premier.

That being said, since the recent changes to the Princess Packages, including more dining options, you may find that Princess Premier is worth it to you.

What’s Included in Princess Premier & Is it Worth it?

At $80 per person, per day, the Princess Premier package is the most all-inclusive package cruise travelers can book. It includes everything in the Princess Plus package, plus these extras:

The crew appreciation, or crew gratuities/tips are included with Princess Premier.

Unlimited Wifi for 4 devices

In contrast to the Princess Plus package which includes unlimited wifi for 1 device per guest, Princess Premier allows passengers to use up to 4 devices at the same time.

Premium Beverage Package

Princess-Plus-Beverage-Package

Princess Cruises Premier Beverage Package includes top shelf premium drinks up to $20 each. Princess Plus is limited to drinks up to $15 each. Guests with Princess Plus can pay the difference if they wish.

The Premier drink package includes beer, spirits, wine by the glass and cocktails. It also includes many non-alcoholic drinks including bottled water, fountain soda, freshly squeezed juice, specialty coffees and teas, frappe’s and milkshakes and energy drinks.

If you were to buy the Princess Plus drink package separately, the cost is $84.99 per person, per day, plus an 18% service charge.

Specialty Dining Meals

Princess-The-Catch-by-Rudis

2 specialty dining options are included with the Princess Premier Package. The specialty dining restaurants on Princess cruise ships include Crown Grill, Sabatinis, The Catch by Rudi and more. Most specialty restaurants on Princess Cruises are $39 per person.

Photo package

A nice benefit of the Princess Premier package is the photo package, which includes unlimited digital photos + 3 prints. This is a nice extra if you have the upgraded Princess package.

With Princess Prizes, cruise passengers have a chance to win prizes including a bouquet of flowers, wine tasting, Chef’s table dinner, free cruises and more. Guests with the Princess Premier package have a chance to play through their stateroom portal (outside the cabin door).

Unlimited Casual Dining Meals

Princess Plus includes only 2 meals at some of the popular casual dining restaurants onboard Princess cruise ships. With Princess Premier, casual dining is unlimited. So, you could eat at Alfredos or Kai Sushi as often as you want.

Ocean Now Delivery is included for both Princess Plus and Premier packages.

Free Room Service Delivery

Complimentary room service delivery is included with the Princess Premier and Plus packages.

Unlimited Fitness Classes

Princess Premier offers unlimited fitness classes, which is great for anyone who plans on working out and keeping up their fitness routine during their cruise vacation. Princess Plus includes only 2 classes.

Princess-Premier-dessert-menu

With unlimited premium desserts, you can try every single one. They are sweet, decadent and instagram worthy!

Just like with the Princess Plus package, the juice bar (these are premium juice blends) is included and drinks are unlimited.

Princess Premier Reserved Seating

A nice bonus for those who opt for the Princess Premier package is reserved seating for production shows. Seats are well located and clearly marked.

Medallion Accessory

A special medallion accessory is provided to Princess Premium package guests. Guests with both the Standard package and Princess Plus receive a free lanyard and holder for their medallion.

Princess Premier and Princess Plus package guests receive complimentary shipping of their medallion. This makes boarding on embarkation day fast and easy.

Princess Plus Value for Captain’s Circle Members

princess cruises Elite mini bar set up

Is Princess Plus worth it for higher level Captain’s Circle members? This is a question many past passengers ask.

The loyalty program on Princess Cruises is pretty fantastic, making it one of the best reasons to keep cruising with Princess .

Captain Circle members who benefit from a discount on the wifi package and a free mini bar set up (ie. Elite members), have a decision to make.

Light drinkers and those that don’t use much internet, may find that the cost savings is better with the Princess Standard package option. You can pay as you go and add on items like casual dining and Ocean Now delivery as needed.

However, if you prefer a more carefree vacation where you don’t need to think about the cost of drinks, wifi or even casual dining, Princess Plus will likely be your best option.

As part of our partnership with XPonential Fitness, we will be offering 3 types of classes for you to choose from: StretchLab, Pure Barre and YogaSix. • What is included in reserved theater seating? As part of the Premier package, you will have access to a section of reserved seating in the Princess Theater for production shows only. Seats in this section are available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be held up until 15 minutes before the performance start time and then released. All guests in your stateroom will be able to sit with you in this reserved section. Unfortunately, if you are traveling with others who are not Premier package guests, they will not be able to join you in this reserved section.
  • What is included for the Medallion accessory? As part of the Premier package, you will receive a clip accessory that has been exclusively designed for Premier package guests. Things to Know Before You Cruise

Princess Cruises: Premier Vs Plus Packages Compared

Hey there! Are you planning a cruise with Princess Cruises but unsure which package to choose? Well, you’re in luck because in this article, we’ll be comparing the Princess Premier and Princess Plus packages, so you can decide which one is best for you.

As someone who loves the freedom to choose what I want to do on vacation, I understand the importance of selecting the right package. Princess Cruises offers a variety of packages to enhance your experience, but it can be overwhelming to choose the right one.

That’s why I’ve done the research for you and will be sharing the details of each package, as well as their value and tips for getting the best deal. So, if you’re ready to learn more about Princess Cruises’ Premier and Plus packages, keep reading!

  • Princess Cruises offers three different packages: Standard, Plus, and Premier.
  • Princess Plus package includes drinks, tips, wifi, premium desserts, fitness classes, and unlimited juice bar drinks for $60/person/day, with a total daily value of extras in package of $45-$47 without drinks package.
  • Princess Premier package includes all benefits of Princess Plus, plus specialty dining, prize draw entries, reserved theatre seating, photos, and medallion accessory for $80/person/day, with a total value without drinks package of $112/day.
  • Princess Plus is the best option for most people, while Princess Premier is not worth it for most people and its value depends on the use of additional perks. Guests should compare prices from different travel agents to get the lowest price on a Princess Cruise.

Package Options

I think the Princess Plus package is the better option for most people, as it includes a lot of valuable extras like drinks, tips, wifi, premium desserts, fitness classes, and unlimited juice bar drinks for a daily value of $140. However, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of each package and consider your personal experiences and preferences when choosing which one to purchase.

The Princess Premier package is more expensive than the Plus package, but it also includes additional perks like specialty dining, reserved theatre seating, and entry into the Princess Prizes. If you plan on taking advantage of these extras, the Premier package could be worth the extra cost.

However, for most people, the Plus package is the better value and provides everything they need for a comfortable and enjoyable cruise experience.

Details of Princess Plus

The Princess Plus package is a popular option for those looking to get the most out of their Princess Cruises experience. The package includes a drinks package, tips, wifi, premium desserts, fitness classes, and unlimited juice bar drinks. All of these extras add up to a daily value of $140, making it a great value for those who plan on taking advantage of all the benefits.

To further illustrate the benefits of the Princess Plus package, here is a breakdown of the costs of each component if purchased separately:

As you can see, the daily cost of these extras without the package is around $45-$47, making the Princess Plus package a great deal for those who plan on enjoying these extras.

Details of Princess Premier

Unleashing a new level of luxury, the Princess Premier package is perfect for those who want to truly indulge in their cruise experience.

In addition to the benefits of Princess Plus, this package offers two specialty dining meals per person per cruise, unlimited premium desserts, fitness classes, and juice bar drinks. Guests also receive entry into Princess Prizes, a medallion accessory, and reserved theatre seating.

Despite its higher price point, the Princess Premier package provides exceptional value for those who plan to take advantage of its additional perks. A value analysis reveals that without the drinks package, the daily value of the Premier package is $112, which includes all of the features of the Plus package and the added benefits.

While the Premier package may not be worth it for most people, those who are looking for an elevated and luxurious experience should consider the added benefits that come with this package.

Comparison and Value

When comparing the value of Princess Cruises packages, it’s important to consider the added benefits and weigh them against the cost. The Princess Plus package offers a great value for most people, with its inclusion of drinks, tips, wifi, premium desserts, fitness classes, and juice bar drinks.

However, the Princess Premier package may be worth it for those who plan on using the additional benefits, such as specialty dining, prize draw entries, reserved theatre seating, and unlimited premium desserts, fitness classes, and juice bar drinks. It also includes a medallion accessory, which can enhance the guest experience.

The value of the Premier package depends on the use of additional perks. Guests should compare prices from different travel agents to get the lowest price on a Princess Cruise. When booking, guests should consider their own personal preferences and budget to determine which package is the best fit for them.

As someone who has taken multiple cruises, I highly recommend considering the Princess Plus package for its great value. While the Premier package may offer some enticing additional benefits, I personally didn’t find them necessary for my own cruise experience.

That being said, every guest is different and has their own unique preferences and priorities. It’s important to weigh the pros and cons and consider personal experience when making a decision on which package to choose.

How do Princess Cruises’ packages compare to other cruise lines’ packages?

When it comes to comparing value and benefits, Princess Cruises’ packages offer a lot for the price. In terms of customer satisfaction, Princess seems to hold its own against other cruise lines.

Are there any restrictions or limitations on the drinks included in the Princess Plus package?

The Princess Plus Package includes unlimited drinks, but there are restrictions on the drink selection. The package costs $60/person/day and offers a daily value of $45-$47 in extras, excluding the drinks package.

Can guests upgrade from Princess Standard to Princess Plus or Princess Premier after booking?

Yes, upgrading options are available from Princess Standard to Princess Plus or Princess Premier at any time, subject to availability. Benefits of each package should be considered before making a decision.

Are there any additional fees or charges not included in the Princess packages?

Hidden charges may include shore excursions, spa treatments, and specialty restaurant fees. Package customization is available for guests who want to add on additional perks. It’s important to read the fine print to avoid unexpected expenses.

How does the Princess Premier package compare to other luxury cruise line packages?

Luxury cruise line packages vary, but the Princess Premier package offers benefits like reserved seating and specialty dining. However, benefits comparison shows it may not be value for money compared to other options.

Princess Cruises drink packages: Are the line’s inclusive options deals or duds?

PRINCESS CRUISES

There's nothing worse than being hit with an unexpectedly sizable bill on the last day of your sailing. It's important to budget for extras like drinks, Wi-Fi and crew gratuities — the drinks especially can really add up and surprise even the most seasoned cruisers.

That's why Princess Cruises offers a variety of drink packages. You can pay up front to avoid nasty surprises later. The options range from nonalcoholic and soda packages to inclusive plans that bundle together additional services for more comprehensive savings. But are you really saving money versus purchasing your soft drinks and cocktails a la carte?

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Let's dive into the four options, corresponding costs and what's included so you can determine if a Princess Cruises drink package or all-inclusive bundle is worth booking.

What are the various Princess Cruises drink packages?

princess cruise plus package

Princess Cruises offers four drink packages , including a couple of nonalcoholic drink plans. Each is designed to help you save money and not worry about the price of individual drink orders throughout your cruise.

However, it's important to note that Princess does things a bit unconventionally for the industry: There is no option to buy a stand-alone alcoholic drink package. If you want an inclusive alcohol package, you'll have to pay for the all-inclusive package that includes drinks alongside Wi-Fi, prepaid gratuities and access to such additional perks as specialty dining, fitness classes and free room service delivery.

Each package is available for purchase on board during the first two days of the sailing or pre-cruise through the Cruise Personalizer booking platform. (Packages are not available for pre-purchase within three days of sailing — if you've waited that long to decide, you'll need to make the purchase on board.)

Packages must be purchased for every day a passenger is sailing (you can't pick and choose days), they may not be shared and they are nontransferable and nonrefundable.

Zero-Alcohol Package

Love indulging in specialty coffees and teas, fizzy sodas, fresh juices and smoothies, cozy hot chocolate, zero-proof mocktails, bottled water and Red Bull energy drinks? Then the Zero-Alcohol Package (previously known as the Coffee & Soda Package) is primed to please your palate. This package is also a great way to get your fill of sparkling and still water bottles, which can be handy for pouring into your reusable bottle and taking ashore on excursions.

There is no age restriction for this package, and it may be used on Princess' private islands and at all onboard dining venues, bars and public spaces with beverage service.

Classic Soda Package

For those with a serious fountain or canned soda habit who don't dabble in fancy coffees or crave bottled water, the Classic Soda Package delivers much-needed refreshment. Beyond the unlimited sodas, this package includes canned fruit juices (excluding the fresh juice bar), mocktails and smoothies.

As with the Zero Alcohol Package, this package has no age restrictions, and it may be used on Princess' private islands or anywhere on board that offers beverage service.

Princess Plus Package

princess cruise plus package

Princess' entry-level bundled drink package offers guests a savings of 54% (based on a seven-night cruise) on several of the cruise line's extra-fee offerings.

First, let's look at the drinks included with Princess Plus: all the nonalcoholic beverages included in the Zero-Alcohol Package, plus cocktails, spirits, wine and beer up to $15 each. (Items selected beyond this price will be charged only the difference in price.) Interested in purchasing a bottle of wine? You'll get 25% off as part of your package perks, and this discount also applies to one-liter bottles of water.

Age restrictions do apply to this package, and exclusions to this package include minibar items, souvenir glassware and bottles of spirits or wine.

Now, let's examine what else comes with the Princess Plus Package because the beverages are just the beginning:

  • Wi-Fi: You get internet access , including streaming and video chat, on a single device.
  • Crew gratuities: The Plus Package includes pre-paid gratuities (which the line calls "crew appreciation"), saving you $16 to $18 per day (depending on cabin type).
  • Premium desserts: Indulge your sweet tooth twice a day with complimentary desserts from the Gelateria, Swirls or Coffee & Cones.
  • Unlimited juice bar: Choose from four juice blends and two power shots (ginger and turmeric), including antioxidants (fruit only), cleansing (vegetables only), immunity (fruit and vegetable) and energy boost. Each juice is a 6-ounce serving.
  • Fitness classes: Work off those premium desserts with two complimentary fitness classes from Xponential during your sailing. Options include Pure Barre, Yoga Six and Stretch Lab.
  • Casual dining meals: Dine out twice at no extra charge at casual sit-down restaurants, such as Alfredo's (pizza), Kai Sushi and pop-ups like Planks and Steamers.
  • OceanNow delivery and room service delivery: Craving a cocktail at the pool? A snack while you read in the library? Just order and it'll be delivered to you, no matter where you are on the ship — including your room. (You'll still pay the cost of the food, drink or OceanNow device; the line will waive the delivery fee.)

Princess Premier Package

Impressed with what you see in the Princess Plus Package but want even more? The Princess Premier Package offers guests savings of 66% off because of the extra value in bundling together even more perks.

When it comes to beverages, you'll get all the same access as the Plus Package, but with this selection, drinks up to $20 are covered (instead of being capped at $15). The package also covers a one-liter bottle of still or sparkling water each time you dine at a specialty restaurant.

As with the Plus Package, guests who choose the Premier Package will receive 25% off bottles of wine and one-liter bottles of water. Age restrictions apply to this package, and exclusions to this package include minibar items, souvenir glassware and bottles of spirits or wine.

Similarly to the Plus Package, the Premier Package also includes:

  • Prepaid crew gratuities
  • Unlimited juice bar
  • OceanNow delivery and room service delivery

You'll also get access to even more services and experiences (some upgraded, removing limitations), including:

  • Wi-Fi: You'll have access on four devices, instead of just one.
  • Premium desserts: You can order unlimited complimentary desserts (versus two per day).
  • Fitness classes: You can sign up for unlimited fitness classes fee-free (versus two per sailing). Casual dining meals: You can enjoy unlimited casual dining meals for free (versus two per sailing).
  • Specialty dining meals: This package includes two meals during your cruise, at Crown Grill, Sabatini's or one of the line's other specialty restaurants .
  • Photo package: You'll get unlimited digital images downloaded to your device plus three prints as a keepsake souvenir.
  • Princess Prizes: With the Premier Package, you're automatically enrolled in Princess Prizes. This is your chance to win cruise prizes (a seven-night cruise for two in a balcony stateroom is awarded on every cruise to one lucky player), shopping gift certificates, exclusive onboard experiences and more.
  • Medallion accessory: The Princess Medallion is a quarter-sized wearable device that speeds up embarkation, unlocks your stateroom door and enables onboard payments. This package includes a free accessory, such as a clip, so that you always have it handy.
  • Reserved theater seating: No more rushing to the production shows after dinner because you'll have reserved seating. Seats are held in special sections and are marked with special seat covers.

What do Princess Cruises drink packages cost?

princess cruise plus package

Each of Princess' four drink packages has a price that scales with its value. Here's what you can expect to pay per guest, per day:

  • Classic Soda Package: $14.99
  • Zero-Alcohol Package: $29.99
  • Princess Plus Package: $60
  • Princess Premier Package: $80

The prices listed above do not include an automatic 18% service charge per day for the Classic Soda and Zero-Alcohol packages, so factor that into your travel budget if you decide to purchase a package.

When calculating cost, it's important to note that the first and second guests in a cabin must each book the same Plus or Premier Package; however, the third and fourth guests are not obligated to do so, which saves money for a family traveling with children.

With the Premier plan, Wi-Fi, specialty dining and the photo package are shareable, which allows a family of four with two parents to have their children's devices on Wi-Fi, take home family photo keepsakes and enjoy one specialty dining experience with their entire family.

One final point worth mentioning: The Plus and Premier plans aren't unlimited when it comes to alcohol. There's a limit of 15 alcoholic beverages over a 24-hour period, which runs from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m.

When's the best time to buy Princess drink packages?

There's no time like the present to purchase your drink package, so if you're positive you'll want it, feel free to select that option when booking your cruise — or any time prior to three days before your sailing.

Once on board, time is of the essence when it comes to purchasing a Princess drink package, as these bundled offers are only available for purchase on the first two days of your cruise (the day you embark and the next day of the voyage only). After that cutoff, it will be too late to take advantage of these packages.

Another reason to plan ahead? Both the Plus and Premier packages are capacity controlled and, if sold out, might not be available for all cabin categories at the time of booking.

You can either sign up during your first two days on board (you will see various crew members promoting the packages or you can upgrade directly through the cruise line's app) or you can add these packages onto your booking ahead of the cruise by logging into your Cruise Personalizer. If you prebook a package, it is nonrefundable within three days of sailing.

What drinks are you allowed to bring on board?

princess cruise plus package

If you don't want to purchase a plan, you might think you can BYOB in order to save money on drinks when you cruise. You have a few options, but they are limited.

For instance, if you were planning to bring your own soda, sparkling water or juices on board, you can do so on embarkation day if carried in your hand luggage (not checked). You are limited to a maximum of 12 sealed cans (not bottles) of 12 ounces each or less per person. Guests will be asked to discard open beverages in plastic containers prior to boarding (so don't show up with a Big Gulp in hand).

If you wish to bring alcohol on board, Princess allows one bottle of wine or champagne (750mL in volume or less) per guest of legal drinking age, which must be presented to security during embarkation. A $20 corkage fee applies if guests wish to consume said bottle in the ship's public areas. (It's free to enjoy in your cabin).

Also, a $20 corkage fee also applies to each additional bottle beyond the one-bottle-per-guest-per-voyage allowance. How many bottles you can bring in total is unknown; the fine print simply says, "Limitations apply, and wine brought in quantities deemed to be excessive by the vessel or security will be refused."

Finally, passengers agree to surrender alcoholic beverages that are purchased duty-free from the vessel's gift shop or at ports of call. They'll be delivered to your cabin prior to disembarking the voyage. (Be sure to account for those in your checked luggage on the way home.)

Are Princess drink packages worth the money?

princess cruise plus package

You'll need to do a bit of math to figure out if the drink packages are worth the price.

If you're considering the Classic Soda or Zero Alcohol packages, start by calculating how many sodas, specialty coffees, juices, smoothies and mocktails you think you'll drink on a daily basis. Then do the math: sodas typically cost $2.50 each, specialty coffees and teas $3-$4, juices $8 and smoothies $10. If it's just two or three drinks each day, these plans likely won't be worth it.

But if you drink at least six sodas each day, or several sodas and a mocktail or smoothie, the Classic Soda Package starts to make sense. Or, if you plan to start your day with a vanilla latte or energy drink, enjoy a few sodas with your meals and by the pool, hit the juice bar after the gym, and partake in a pre-dinner mocktail, then purchasing the Zero Alcohol Package could be the way to go. Just remember that you'll need to keep up the same drinking pace on port days as you do on sea days to break even.

For the Plus and Premier packages, there's a lot more to calculate, but the value of each is a no-brainer before you even get down to the nitty gritty numbers of each individual perk.

With the Plus Package, if you assume that most cocktails are $10-$15 each, beers are about $7 apiece and glasses of wine are $10-$20 each, it's easy to spend $30 or more a day if you plan to have one beer by the pool, a glass of wine at dinner and a post-dinner nightcap. Once you add in the prepaid crew appreciation (a minimum of $16 per day), and Wi-Fi for one device (14.99 per day), you're already paying $61 per day a la carte — yet the cost of this package is only $60 per day.

Related: 8 best drinks to order with a cruise ship beverage package (and 3 to avoid)

Without adding in the value of premium desserts, fitness classes, the unlimited juice bar, two casual dining meals ($14.99 each) and room service and OceanNow delivery, you've already come out ahead.

The value continues with the Premier Package. Let's assume the same $30 per day on alcohol and $16 on crew appreciation, but now you have access to up to four devices on Wi-Fi ($40), bringing your total to $86 per day a la carte — yet this package only costs $80 per day. Add in the value of two specialty dining meals (starting at $35 per person), unlimited digital photos and three prints, unlimited premium desserts and fitness classes, unlimited juice bar and casual dining meals and Ocean Now and room service delivery, and you've found a great package deal.

It's important to note that both guests sharing a cabin must purchase the same bundled package (Plus or Premier). Be sure to double that price in your calculations if you're traveling as a couple, or discuss with your travel companion prior to the trip to ensure you're on the same page about purchasing a package.

Bottom line: Is a Princess Cruises drink package right for you?

princess cruise plus package

Now that you have all the facts and figures, take a look at your everyday lifestyle when it comes to beverage consumption — do you already have a Starbucks addiction or a four-soda-a-day habit, enjoy a glass or two of wine with dinner and seek out juices and smoothies when you're feeling a bit low-energy? Your routines aren't likely to trend downwards on a cruise. In fact, you'll probably indulge a bit more since you're on vacation and have easy access to plenty of options.

Unless you believe you're going to be satisfied with the basic beverages included in the cruise fare — tap water, drip coffee, hot and iced tea, milk, lemonade and juice from a dispenser at breakfast — you will end up spending some amount of money on extra beverages. If you don't enjoy the feeling of being nickled and dimed every time you place an order, the Classic Soda and Zero Alcohol packages will lead to a stress-free vacation with no ugly surprises on the last day.

As for the Plus and Premier packages, you have no choice but to pay the crew appreciation (as you should!) and there's little chance you'll go without Wi-Fi on a cruise — so if you plan on having any beverages at all, especially ones containing alcohol, you'll see massive savings with these packages — Princess claims 54% and 66% respectively off the retail value on a seven-night voyage.

The choice is yours, so choose the option that will best enhance your vacation and save you stress and money. Remember that the more you save, the more future cruise vacations you can afford to book.

If you’re planning a Princess cruise vacation, you’ve probably seen the Princess Plus offering.

You’re probably wondering, what is it? How much does it cost? Is Plus or Premier better? And is Princess Plus worth it?

Princess Cruises Princess Plus cruise fare creates a more “all-inclusive” approach to sailing with a drinks package, WiFi plan, gratuities, and other perks included in the price.

We’ll review everything you need to know about Princess Plus and Princess Premier to help you decide if it’s worth it and which package is right for you.

Princess Cruises offers three cruise fare packages: Standard, Plus, and Premier.

Let’s look at each pricing plan to see what’s included.

Majestic Prinsess vessel approaches the Port of Tauranga

Princess Standard

Your Princess Standard experience includes your accommodations, complimentary dining, entertainment, and basic onboard activities. It’s the basic cruise fare without any extras and add-ons.

The Princess Standard fare, formally called Princess Savers, doesn’t include the perks that come with Plus and Premier, but you can purchase them individually.

Princess Standard is an excellent option for most people as you can pick and choose which perks you use instead of paying for a bundle of add-ons you may not use. You get to customize your cruise vacation experience.

If you don’t plan on purchasing a drink package, this is the best plan for you.

Princess Plus

Royal Princess ship in Grenada

Princess Cruises Princess Plus package is an upgraded cruise fare that provides passengers with a  more “all-inclusive” approach .

Princess Plus costs $60 per person per day and includes the following perks:

  • Princess Cruises Plus Beverage Package

  • Two boutique fitness classes per voyage
  • Two premium crafted desserts per day

  • NEW:  Two prix fixe meals at any casual dining location per sailing
  • NEW:  Free OceanNow Delivery Service Activation
  • NEW:  Complimentary Room Service
  • NEW:  “Green Lane” Express Boarding, including free Medallion device delivery.

According to the cruise line , you save over 50% off retail value when you purchase the package. That amounts to savings of up to $668 on a 7-day cruise.

But that’s assuming you’ll use all of the perks to the fullest extent. Later in the article, we’ll take a look and see if the Princess Plus package is a good deal.

While the Princess Plus promotion is available all the time, there are a limited number of packages available on each sailing.

It’s common for the Princess Plus fare to sell out on individual sailings.

But don’t worry.

If Princess Plus sells out, you can still book at the Princess Standard rate.

Princess Premier

Princess Premier is similar to the Plus pricing but with fewer limits, an upgraded beverage package, and internet for up to four devices.

Princess Premier costs $80 per person per day and includes the following perks:

  • Princess Cruises Premier Beverage Package
  • Two nights of complimentary specialty dining
  • Reserved seating in the Princess Theatre
  • Unlimited boutique fitness classes per voyage
  • Unlimited premium crafted desserts per day

According to Princess Cruises, the package provides savings of over 65%. Like the savings from Princess Plus, you’ll only notice the savings if you use the perks in the package.

About the Perks

Below is a quick overview of some of the perks included in the Plus and Premier packages.

Drink Package

Couple-on-a-Princess-Cruise-Ship-with-the-Premier-Beverage-Package

Princess Cruises Plus Beverage Package includes a selection of cocktails, beer, specialty coffee, soda, fresh juices, mocktails, and smoothies up to $15 per drink. The package also provides a 25% discount on wine bottles, bottled water, and soda cans.

Princess Cruises Premier Beverage Package includes everything in the Plus Drink Plan plus top-shelf spirits, reserve wines by the glass, high-end crafted cocktails, Private Woodford Reserve Bourbon Selection, and a Personalized Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Single Barrel Select.

MedallionNet 2.0 WiFi Package

Man on the balcony of a cruise ship using his red laptop

Princess Cruises MedallionNet 2.0 WiFi uses Starlink internet service to provide some of the fastest internet speeds at sea.

Starlink internet speeds are available fleetwide and include 5G connectivity.

Princess Plus includes unlimited internet access for one device, while Princess Premier guests receive internet for four devices.

Casual Dining

Princess Plus and Princess Premier cruisers enjoy savory prix fixe dining options from the cruise ship’s casual dining restaurants. The casual prix fixe dining has a regular price of $14.99.

Plus, cruisers receive two casual prix fixe meals per sailing, while Premier passengers receive unlimited a la carte meals from casual dining venues.

OceanNow Service

OceanNow is an on-demand food delivery service. You can have food and drinks delivered to your location anywhere on the Princess cruise ship.

The OceanNow service has a delivery fee of $14.99 per order. However, the cruise line waives Princess Plus and Premier guests’ delivery fees.

Complimentary Room Service

Premier and Plus passengers receive complimentary room service. The standard $14.99 delivery fee is waived for all package holders.

So feel free to order to your heart’s content.

Faster Boarding With “Green Lane”

Caribbean princess aerial view from the rear of the cruise ship

Princess Plus and Premier guests no longer need to wait in line to board the ship. Princess Cruises delivers your Medallion to your home before the sailing. If your travel information and documents are ready, boarding the cruise ship is not a hassle.

Now, you can get straight to the fun and skip the painful embarkation process.

Crew Appreciation

The crew appreciation and service charges are charged daily and go towards many of the forward-facing crew members who provide you with excellent service during your cruise vacation.

Gratuities are charged daily to Standard package cruisers. But Plus and Premier members have the service charges taken from the package pricing.

Including gratuities makes budgeting easier, as many first-time cruisers do not budget for the automatic daily service charge. If you’re unaware of the gratuities, you’ll be surprised to see how quickly they add up on your final bill.

Is Princess Cruises Princess Plus Worth It?

Crown Princess ship departs from Charlotte Amalie on Saint Thomas

Now that you know what’s included, you might wonder if upgrading to the Princess Plus package is the right choice.

Let’s explore the package perks and compare them to the standard fare.

Princess Plus is an upgraded fare that costs an additional $60 per person daily. For a 7-day cruise, Princess Plus costs $420 per person on top of the standard cruise fare.

With Princess Plus, you will receive the following values:

  • Plus Beverage Package : Worth $64.99 per person per day (including the 18% service charge).
  • One Device MedallionNet 2.0 WiFi : Worth $9.99 per person per day
  • Prepaid Gratuities : Worth $16 – $18 per day.
  • Casual Dining:  Worth $14.99 per order.
  • OceanNow Service:  Worth $14.99 per order.
  • Room Service:  Worth $14.99 per order.

When looking at the beverage package, WiFi, and gratuities, it’s clear that Princess Plus is worth the money. Of course, other perks come with Princess Plus, but the beverage plan, internet package, and crew appreciation are the easiest to value.

Princess Cruises charges an automatic daily gratuity of $16 – $18 per person. When you consider that you’ll need to pay cruise gratuities no matter which package you choose, Princess Plus has instant savings of up to $18 per day.

If you use another $48 per day worth of perks, Princess Plus is worth it.

With so many perks included, it’s hard to place a value on what bonuses you’ll use.

As a simple rule, if you plan on purchasing the drink package,  Princess Plus is worth it .

You’ll save more money through the Plus package than if you were to buy the drink package with the Princess Standard cruise fare. And you get a WiFi plan along with several other perks included at no extra cost.

I bought the Princess Plus package on my Princess cruise. Because I was looking at purchasing a drink package, the Plus package was a no-brainer. I saved money on the package and got the WiFi plan included, which I wouldn’t have otherwise bought.

If you’re looking for a step up from the Plus pricing, you might wonder if the Princess Premier package is worth the extra cost. To help you decide, let’s break down the key inclusions and compare the value to the standard Princess Plus package.

Princess Premier costs $80 per person daily. For a 7-day cruise, Princess Premier costs $560 per person on top of the standard cruise fare.

Premier includes the following values:

  • Premier Beverage Package : Worth $84.99 per person per day (including the 18% service charge).
  • Four Devices MedallionNet 2.0 WiFi : Worth $39.99 per person per day

As a simple rule, if you plan on purchasing the Premier drink package,  Princess Premier is worth it.

You’ll save more money through the Premier package than if you were to buy the drink package with the Princess Standard cruise fare. And you get a four-device WiFi plan and several other perks at no extra cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do i have to buy the princess plus package.

Princess Plus and Premier are entirely optional.

You can purchase Princess Standard, simply the traditional cruise fare offered without the added perks. This lower-priced fare only includes your standard cruise ticket and is an excellent choice if you won’t use the drink package or unlimited WiFi plan.

Does Everyone Sharing a Cabin Have to Buy the Deal?

If you upgrade to Princess Cruises Princess Plus, everyone sharing the stateroom will pay the higher-priced fare and receive all perks.

Interestingly, Princess Cruises allows the third and fourth guests the choice to opt out of the deal. If you want to exclude the third and fourth guests from Princess Plus, you can opt-out by calling the cruise line.

What If a Passenger is Under 21?

If a passenger is under the drinking age but upgrades to the Princess Plus package, they will receive the non-alcoholic beverage package instead of the Plus or Premier Drink Package. This package includes unlimited non-alcoholic drinks around the ship, including soda, specialty coffees, mocktails, and energy drinks.

Which Sailings Offer the Princess Plus Fares?

At the time of this writing, the Princess Plus package is available on all Princess Cruises itineraries and is available for purchase for all stateroom categories. Only a limited number of Princess Plus fares are available on each sailing, so it may sell out on some voyages.

Can You Upgrade to Princess Plus After You Book?

You can choose the Princess Plus fare at the time of booking.  If you wish to upgrade to Princess Plus after you book, call your travel agent or Princess Cruises customer support at 1-800-774-6237.

If we would only have a few cocktails a couple of the days on the cruise is it better to not get any package? We are newbies!

If you’re only going to have cocktails on a few days of the cruise I don’t think any of the packages are worth it. I’d recommend giving our drink package calculator a try, but it generally wouldn’t be worth the price of the package.

Princess Cruise Packages: Princess Standard, Princess Plus, and Princess Premier

by Prof. Cruise · August 10, 2023

A photo of the new Princess premium desserts, a photo of an Xponential Fitness class taking place on a Princess ship, and a chart listing the items included in each Princess cruise package with text that reads: UPDATED Princess Cruise Packages Explained.

Introduction

In February of 2023, Princess introduced updated packages that included added features like premium desserts and Xponential Fitness classes (Wait a minute, don’t the desserts and fitness classes just cancel each other out and you end up with nothing but the extra 10 lbs you’ve always disembarked a Princess cruise with?). And then in August of 2023, Princess introduced additional (highly controversial) changes to the packages including new “casual dining” options for Princess Plus and Princess Premier guests and the elimination of complimentary meals at Alfredo’s/Gigi’s sit-down pizza restaurants and complimentary room service and OceanNow delivery for Princess Standard guests.

Here are the basics of the updated Princess cruise packages followed by more detail on each offering to help you decide which is right for you:

A breakdown of each Princess cruise package, Princess Standard, Princess Plus, and Princess Premier.

Here are detailed descriptions and links to menus, reviews, and further information for each of Princess’s package options: Princess Standard, Princess Plus, and Princess Premier.

The Princess Standard Package Explained

Believe it or not, there are some of us who are perfectly content enjoying a basic cruise experience, one without an extensive bar tab, 42 internet-connected devices in order to force upon the world live videos of ourselves consuming every drink on said bar tab as we grow increasingly loose lipped and inappropriately dressed, and “exclusive” dining experiences so we may snub our noses at those underlings dining on $5 strip steak in the MDR.

Nah, just give me a lounger with a view of the ocean, a promenade deck to walk, unlimited starch-based food products and average quality desserts, some live music, and a decent show or two, and I’m happy. I mean, I might splurge from time to time and order a martini and I usually offer a bribe to anyone who can get me a private audience with the Captain, but on more than one occasion I’ve disembarked a cruise with a negative balance on my shipboard account. #truestory

Call me basic. Or in this case, “standard.” You too? Well you probably don’t need to purchase an upgraded package on Princess. If you typically spend less than $60 per day on “extras,” go with “Princess Standard” and just pay à la carte for any items that add to your cruise experience. Keep in mind that you will still pay “crew appreciation” which is $16 per person/per day for non-suite guests ($17 for mini-suite guests and $18 for suite guests).

Important August 2023 Update for Princess Standard Guests: Alfredo’s/Gigi’s Pizza is no longer complimentary for Princess Standard guests. Princess Standard guests will also now pay a one-time per cruise $14.99 activation fee to use OceanNow food and beverage delivery and $5 per room service order placed via their cabin phone.

The Princess Plus Package Explained

Despite everything I just said above, I’ll be purchasing the Princess Plus package for my next Princess cruise so I can review the new casual dining options. I’m doing it for you, people! But if I’m going to spend $60 a day, you better believe I’ll be getting my money’s worth in drinks. So you may want to avoid me after my third martini unless you’re prepared to join me tabletop, as the Sonny to my Cher, for a little impromptu karaoke: “I got you babe.”

Anyway, here’s what the Princess Plus package includes for $60 per person/per day in addition to the standard cruise experience:

1. Princess Plus Beverage Package

The Plus Beverage Package includes the following beverages priced up to $15:

-Beer -Cocktails -Frappes at Coffee & Cones -Hot chocolate -Juice  -Milkshakes  -Red Bull energy drinks -Smoothies -Sodas -Specialty coffees and teas -Water -Wine

Also, a 25% discount is offered on the following excluded items: all bottles of wine, one-liter bottles of water, canned soda and bottled juices .

All service charges (gratuities) are also included in the package price.

The Plus Beverage Package does not include mini bar items, beverages offered via self-service or vending machines, or souvenir glassware.

For beverages priced above $15, the guest will only pay for anything above $15 .

The package has a daily limit on alcoholic beverages of 15 over a 24-hour period (6 a.m. to 6 a.m.).

2. Single Device Wi-Fi

“ Single device ” means you can only use wi-fi on one device at a time (not one device for your entire cruise). You’ll need to log off one device (your phone, let’s say) before logging onto anther (your laptop or tablet or another phone).

3. Crew Appreciation

Gratuities will be paid to crew on your behalf as part of your package. Without a package the rate is $16 per person/per day for non-suite guests, $17 for mini-suite guests, and $18 for suite guests.

4. Two Premium Desserts Per Day

Princess describes these as “elaborate confections overflowing with gelato, pastry and candy mixtures that will be available within Gelateria, Swirls or Coffee and Cones.” You can find the menu HERE .

There are also premium cakes available on some ships.

5. Two Xponential Fitness Classes Per Cruise

Princess has a partnership with Xponential Fitness, a global franchisor of boutique fitness brands. Classes offered include :

• Pure Barre : a full-body workout focused on low-impact, moderate to high-intensity movements that improve strength and flexibility. • YogaSix : a full sensory yoga experience accessible to all, with a variety of classes targeting strength, agility, flexibility and balance. • StretchLab is a unique wellness concept offering assisted stretching sessions with customized flexibility services. • Club Pilates : a low-impact, full-body Reformer Pilates workout with a variety of classes that build strength, mobility and stability. • CycleBar : an inclusive, immersive and inspiring low-impact, high-intensity indoor cycling experience for all ages and body types. • STRIDE Fitness : a treadmill-based interval training concept, delivering a total body cardio and strength workout.

You must sign up for individual classes onboard by visiting the fitness center. Be sure to do that on embarkation day as classes can fill up. You can also pay for classes a la carte, if you don’t want to purchase a package. Read my review of the new classes here :

6. Unlimited Juice Bar

Unlimited fresh pressed juice is included as part of the beverage plus package.

See the Juice Bar menu here :

The juice bar is only available at breakfast and lunch during the opening hours of the World Fresh Marketplace or other adjacent location at which juice is served. It is not valid using OceanNow feature within the MedallionClass app.

7. Two “Casual Dining” Meals Per Sailing

Plus cruisers will receive two three-course prix fixe meals in their ship’s available casual dining restaurants including Vines, Salty Dog Pub, O’Malleys, Ocean Terrace, Planks, Steamers, and Alfredo/GiGi’s. Menus available by ship can be found HERE .

8. Complimentary OceanNow Delivery

The standard $14.99 one-time activation fee to use OceanNow food and beverage delivery (allowing guests to have an extensive menu of food and beverages delivered almost anywhere on the ship) will be waved for those with the plus package.

9. Complimentary Room Service

The Princess Premier Package Explained

If you enjoy top shelf liquor or dining at a few specialty restaurants on your cruise, the Premier package may make more sense for you. Here’s what the Premier package includes for $80 per person/per day in addition to the standard cruise experience:

1. Princess Premier Beverage Package

The Premier Beverage Package includes the following beverages priced up to $20:

Also, a 25% discount is offered on the following excluded items: all bottles of wine, one-liter bottles of water, canned soda and bottled juices.

All service charges (gratuities) are also included in the package.

The Premier Beverage Package does not include mini bar items, beverages offered via self-service or vending machines, or souvenir glassware .

2. Four Device Wi-Fi

Four device wi-fi means you can have up to four devices connected to wi-fi at the same time.

Gratuities will be paid to crew on your behalf as part of your package. Guests without a package will pay $16 per person/per day for non-suite guests, $17 for mini-suite guests, and $18 for suite guests.

4. Two Specialty Dining Meals Per Person

Note that the specialty dining included in Princess Premier does not include items with extra charges on the menus (you can order those items, but will have to pay the extra charge).

5. Photo Package

The photo package includes digital downloads of all images taken by onboard Princess photographers and three prints, up to 8×10, of any photo. The photo package does not apply to Platinum Studio, weddings, portraits, or group special events.

6. Princess Prizes

Princess Prizes is a promotion that allows guests to win prizes through their stateroom door portal. The prize portal is activated when a guest opens their stateroom door using their Medallion device. Prizes currently include entry into an end-of-cruise drawing for $5,000 or more in cash, onboard credits, onboard dining experiences, free cruises, and $100,000 cash.

7. Unlimited Premium Desserts

So, with the Premier plan you could actually order all of these every day (too bad the plan doesn’t also include unlimited visits to the medical center). You can find the menu here :

A photo of the Princess premium dessert menu with text that reads: Princess Premium Dessert Menu and Prices.

8. Unlimited Xponential Fitness Classes Per Cruise

But it does include unlimited fitness classes ! Princess launched a new partnership with Xponential Fitness, a global franchisor of boutique fitness brands. Classes offered include :

• Pure Barre : a full-body workout focused on low-impact, moderate to high-intensity movements that improve strength and flexibility. • YogaSix : a full sensory yoga experience with a variety of classes targeting strength, agility, flexibility and balance.

While you can participate in unlimited classes with the Premier plan, you must sign up for individual classes onboard by visiting the fitness center. Be sure to do that on embarkation day as classes can fill up. Read my review of these new classes HERE .

9. Unlimited Juice Bar

11. Reserved Theater Seating

As part of the Premier package, guests will have access to a section of reserved seating in the Princess Theater for production shows only (Broadway-style shows with singers and dancers). Seats in this section are available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be held until 15 minutes before the performance start time and then released. All guests in your stateroom will be able to sit with you in this reserved section. However, if you are traveling with others in a different stateroom who are not Premier package guests, they will not be able to join you in this reserved section.

12. Unlimited “Casual Dining” Meals

Premier cruisers will receive unlimited three-course prix fixe meals in their ship’s available casual dining restaurants including Vines, Salty Dog Pub, O’Malleys, Ocean Terrace, Planks, Steamers, and Alfredo/GiGi’s. Menus available by ship can be found here :

14. Complimentary Room Service

The $5 per order room service fee will be waved for those with the premier package.

Princess Cruise Packages FAQ’s

Q: Can I purchase Princess Plus or Princess Premier onboard using onboard credit? A: Yes! I fact, that’s what I plan on doing. You can purchase a package in advance or once onboard. You can also upgrade from Plus to Premier onboard.

Q: Are the first and second guests in a stateroom both required to purchase the same package? A: Yes.

Q: Are third and fourth guests required to purchase the same package (Princess Plus or Princess Premier)? A: Third and fourth guests are not required or defaulted to the selected package of first and second guests in a stateroom. Contact Princess or your travel agent to have a packaged added for an additional guest (or do it once onboard).

Q: What if one or both guests in a cabin aren’t of legal drinking age (21 or older) or if they don’t drink alcohol? A: Guests who are under 21 will receive the Zero-Alcohol Package, previously called Coffee & Soda Package. This package type will be assigned prior to sailing based on the age of the guest. For guests 21 or over who don’t drink alcohol, both the Plus Beverage Package and Premier Beverage Package include fountain sodas, the new Juice Bar, fresh juices, bottled water, specialty coffees & teas, frappes, milkshakes and Red Bull energy drinks, with pre-paid 18% service charge included for these items. In the event that you don’t want the Plus Beverage Package or Premier Beverage Package, no substitutions or discounts will be offered.

Q: How does a bartender or waiter know I have the Plus or Premier Beverage Package? A: The ship systems recognize the package attached to a guest’s booking and notifies the crew at the time of each transaction.

Q: What items in Princess Premier can be shared across all guests in the stateroom, even if 3rd and 4th guests don’t have Princess Premier? A: The following items can be shared across all guests in a single stateroom: Wi-Fi for 4 devices per Princess Premier guest, two specialty dining meals per Princess Premier guest, the digital photo portion of the Photo Package, reserved theater seating, and Medallion devices accessories. The meals shared with the 3rd and 4th guests will be counted towards the total four specialty dining meals included for the 1st and 2nd guests in Princess Premier. Beverage packages cannot be shared with guests who have not purchased a package.

It would be very helpful if you’d call these what they are: FARES, not “packages.” People get very confused when anyone calls these “packages” because the Princess beverage packages are also called Plus and Premiere.

' src=

Booked a cruise for May 2024 in June 2023 with the Plus Package right before the change. Understood that the additional items would be included in my package. However when I look at my personal planner it is only showing the original Plus Package without the additions.

Worth It? Princess Cruise Drink Packages Explained (Prices, What’s Included, and More)

Wondering if the alcoholic drink package on Princess is worth it? Or maybe you know you want the package, but want to know all the details of how it works before you buy.

princess cruise plus package

Drink packages have a lot to offer for passengers. Instead of having to worry about paying for each drink — and keeping track of the bar tab — you can simply head up to the bar whenever you want something and order. So whether you have five cocktails or six beers, or a mix of coffee in the morning, wine in the afternoon, and margaritas at dinner, you’ll pay one flat fee.

But there is a lot to know about these packages, including some fine print that can help you decide if they are worth it or not on your next cruise.

In This Article...

What Drink Packages Does Princess Offer?

Princess provides two offerings for passengers when it comes to alcoholic drink packages.

These packages are the Plus Beverage Package, featuring drinks up to $15 per glass and the Premier Beverage Package, which is a higher-end offering with drinks up to $20 per glass .

Purchasing one of these packages gives you access to dozens of drink options while on your cruise, running everything from cocktails to beer, water, juices, and soda.

In addition, Princess also offers several non-alcoholic package options, including a soda package, a coffee package, and a Zero-Alcohol Drink Package that includes everything from mocktails to soda to energy drinks. However, we will focus our attention on the ins and outs of the alcoholic drink packages on Princess.

How Much Do Drink Packages Cost?

Unlike some cruise lines that charge varied prices, Princess has stable costs on the drink packages.

The lower tier Princess Plus Beverage Package costs $64.99 per person, per day starting February 2023. There is an additional 18% gratuity charge tacked onto this amount. Therefore, a passenger would pay $76.69 per day. Over the course of a 7-day cruise, the total would come to $536.82.

The higher-end Princess Premier offer runs $84.99 per person, per day or $100.29 after the gratuity amount. That comes to a total of $702.02 for a person on a 7-day cruise.

However, you can get the drink package for less if your purchase it through one of Princess’ all-inclusive deals (Princess Plus and Princess Premier). We have more details on this below.

How Does Gratuity Work With the Package?

Princess charges an 18% gratuity on the cost of the drink package when you buy . So while it might have a headline price of $64.99 per day, the actual cost is $76.69. This gratuity covers any drinks you get with the package, however.

So if you make a purchase from the bar with the drink package, it will not have an additional gratuity tacked on — your drink is no cost from the bar. Without the package, you would pay the menu price, plus an extra 18%.

How Do I Purchase the Princess Drink Package?

To purchase the package, you have a few options. First you can purchase the package you want before you sail through your online account or through calling the cruise line. In this case, you’ll have to pre-purchase at least four days of getting on the ship.

You can also wait to purchase the package once on the ship. It will be sold onboard during embarkation day.

But there is another way to buy, and that is with the Princess Plus and Princess Premier all-inclusive offers . These deals offer gratuities, wi-fi, a drink package, and more included in the cruise fare. They also provide the best deal for the drink package. See our section titled “Is it Better to Buy the Drink Package or Get it Through Princess Plus/Premier?” below.

What’s Included in the Package?

When you purchase your package, you’re getting most drinks on the ship included. Both packages include beer, liquor, wine by the glass, bottled water, fountain sodas, specialty coffee/tee, milkshakes, and energy drinks.

Having either package also grants you a 25% discount on bottles of wine, large bottles of water and cans of soda.

For the Plus Beverage Package, it includes these beverages priced $15 per glass or less. For the Premier Beverage Package, it includes beverages up to $20 per glass, giving you more access to high-end drinks.

Princess says that the Plus package offers 50 spirits, along with 25 wines by the glass and 25 beers, the Premier package offers “75 spirits, 40+ wines by the glass, 20+ high-end, crafted cocktails.”

princess cruise plus package

What’s NOT included in the Drink Packages?

Most drinks you want will be included in the package, but there are some restrictions on beverages you can purchase. All of the following are specifically mentioned as not available with the drink package:

  • Bottles of alcohol for sale on the ship (except beer)
  • Drinks from the mini-bar
  • Buckets of beer
  • Souvenir glassware

Apart from that, most beverages you see on the ship will be available under the package.

Is it Better to Buy the Drink Package or Get it Through Princess Plus/Premier All-Inclusive Offers?

With most cruise lines, you have a simple option — buy the drink package or not. On Princess, it’s slightly more complicated. That’s because Princess offers all-inclusive options for their passengers. You can buy the standard base fare with just the cruise included, or you can buy one of the following offers:

  • Princess Plus ($60 per person, per day) : Includes cabin, plus wi-fi (one device), daily gratuities, and Plus Beverage Package plus premium desserts, fitness classes, and juice bar.
  • Princess Premier ($80 per person, per day) : Includes cabin, plus wi-fi (four devices), daily gratuities, specialty dining (two meals), photo package, Princess Prizes, and Premier Beverage Package plus premium desserts, fitness classes, juice bar, and reserved theater seating.

As you can see, the price for these all-inclusive options is less than the cost of the drink package alone . In addition, you receive even more perks — such as daily gratuities and wi-fi — included.

If you know you plan to purchase a drink package, then it’s a much better value to get it through the all-inclusive offers instead of purchasing it by itself at the current prices.

You can read more about these Princess offers here .

Can I Share the Package?

No, you can’t get a package and then share drinks from it. Princess says specifically that “packages may NOT be shared, are NON-transferable and NON-refundable.”

Will the cruise line know if you get a drink and then pass it one to someone without the package? Likely not, however, it is against the rules. If caught, then the cruise line says they reserve the right to cancel the package.

Do I Have to Buy the Package for the Entire Cruise?

Yes. One aspect of drink packages — including Princess’ offering — is that they are required to be bought for the entire cruise if you decide to purchase. You can’t pick and choose days.

Princess specifically says that “partial/pro-rated packages or purchase for segments of a guests voyage are NOT accepted.”

Is There a Limit on the Number of Drinks You Can Have?

There is a limit on the number of alcoholic beverages that you can order per day.

Princess places a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hours , going from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. If you try to exceed this limit, then the cruise line says it’s “at the discretion of shipboard management and crew” but will be charged the menu price.

However, non-alcoholic beverages don’t count in this figure and there is no limit on how many you can have. So don’t worry that having a bottle of water in between drinks is going to limit how many cocktails you can have.

Does The Drink Package Work on Private Islands or Ports?

When in a typical port of call, the drink package does not extend to land. Since these spots are independent of the cruise line, don’t expect to be able to use drink offer to get a beverage on shore.

However, Princess says that the package can be used on their private islands . So if visiting one of these spots, you can use the package just like on the ship.

Are Princess Drink Packages Worth the Money?

Whether or not a drink package is worth the money is often a point of contention. With the Princess deal, however, we think it’s definitely worth it for most people .

If purchased on its own, the math behind the package may not work for you. After all, you have to drink enough each day to make up for the cost of the drink package. With Princess’ all-inclusive offers, however, the math shifts strongly in favor of having the package.

For example, the Princess Plus package costs passengers $60 per day. For that amount, you get daily gratuities ($16 per day for most cabins), wi-fi, and the drink package.

Even if you don’t use the wi-fi service at all, the cost of gratuities is something you’d pay for no matter what. Subtracting that cost out, it means you’ll pay $44 total for the drink package . That’s the cost of only a handful of drinks each day, and don’t forget that non-alcoholic beverages like specialty coffees, water, and soda are also included.

So if you know you want the package, we suggest opting for one of Princess’ all-inclusive options as it’s less expensive. And when you consider what’s included in the deal, it makes the math work strongly in favor of the drink package if you plan to drink even a moderate amount.

I read this article hoping to find an answer, are the soda-only or non-alcoholic drink packages worth it? No one in my party drinks alcohol, but we are all addicted to soda, energy drinks, and milkshakes. We don’t need the other perks of the cruise-line packages. I guess I just answered my own question.

If “addicted” then yes, it should be worth it. If you just like it, take advantage of being able to bring a 12-pack on with you and save some money.

This is a great explanation, but one thing missing from consideration is whether both people in the cabin drink alcohol. If one purchases a package, the other also must purchase the package. My traveling drinks alcohol, I do not. While I understand that other drinks are included, I can’t even come close to drinking $35 worth of non-alcoholic beverages per day, every day (~$15/day gratuities and $10/day wifi, leaves $35/day for beverages). On my most recent cruise, we opted not to do the package and saved a lot of money (over buying it), buying our beverages “on the go.” So the bottom line is, do the math and consider your drinking habits. Thanks for publishing this explanation.
