2024 Tata Safari Breaks Cover: 8 Highlights

Tata Safari: Exterior

The Tata Safari has been updated for 2024, it gets a complete facelift and comes with a new grille, new bumpers front and back, new LED headlights and fog lights and a new connecting LED bar which acts as a DRL as well as a rear connecting LED lightbar. The Safari now also features 19-inch alloy wheels.

Tata Safari: Interior

The New 2024 Safari gets an all new interior with a new dashboard layout and a huge 31.24cm infotainment touch screen. The Safari now gets a similar illuminated logo on the steering wheel which we got to see on the Facelift Nexon. The New interior also features mood lighting throughout the cabin and there is a new interior color for the Adventure edition.

Tata Safari: Technology

The New Tata Safari comes loaded with a lot of tech features. These include a brand new 31.24cm infotainment screen with wireless android auto and apple car play functionality, a 26.03 fully digital instrument cluster, a 10-speaker JBL sound system, multiple voice assistants and a smart E-shifter.

The New Tata Safari is loaded with features. It now gets a powered tailgate with hands-free operation, 6-way power adjustable driver seat with memory, 4-way power adjustable co-passenger seat, a cooled center armrest, rear sunshades, comfort headrests, wireless charger and an air purifier.

Tata Safari: Comfort

The Tata Safari was already known for its brilliant ride quality and comfort, it gets a lot of comfort oriented features as well. These include ventilated rear seats, dual-zone climate control, boss mode in the co-passenger seat, and a voice assisted panoramic sunroof with integrated mood lighting.

Tata Safari: Safety

The 2024 Tata Safari now gets even more safety features. The Safari now comes with 7-airbags with the addition of a knee-airbag which was not present in the previous model, a host of ADAS safety features which include blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking. The Safari also includes 24/7 emergency assistance.

Tata Safari: Drivetrain

The 2024 Tata Safari carry forwards the same drivetrain option with a single 2.0L diesel engine sourced from Fiat producing 168 bhp and 350 Nm of torque paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed Hyundai sourced torque converter automatic with paddle shifters. There are multiple drive modes and terrain modes as well similar to the pre-facelift Safari.

Dimensions of Tata Safari

The 2024 Safari is 4668mm long, 1922mm wide and 1795mm tall. Bigger exterior dimensions give a car a stronger road presence. The Safari has a 2741mm long wheelbase. A long wheelbase makes the car more stable at high speeds and gives better legroom in the back seat, while a shorter wheelbase makes the car more agile. The 2024 Tata Safari has a fuel tank capacity of 50 litres and a boot space measuring 420 litres. The Safari has a ground clearance of 200mm. The tyre size of the 2024 Safari base model is 235/65 R17 and the top model rides on 245/55 R19 tyres. Cars running on bigger wheels provide better handling and styling. However, these advantages come at the cost of efficiency. Having bigger wheels means more metal and more rotating mass. Therefore, it adversely impacts your drivability, performance and mileage.

2024 Tata Safari Facelift – More Details Emerge

Tata Motors is preparing to launch 3 SUVs before the end of this financial year. The company will introduce the significantly revised versions of the Nexon, Safari and the Harrier. If reports are to be believed, the new Nexon will arrive by August 2023 while the new Harrier will be launched by festive season, 2023. The 2024 Tata Safari is expected to be launched by the end of this financial year, most probably in the first quarter of 2024. Moreover, Tata will also launch the Punch EV and the Curvv SUV Coupe in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

Design & Interior

The 2024 Tata Safari has been spotted testing numerous times on the Indian roads. The new model will receive design changes and upgraded cabin along with more tech features. Styling of the new Safari will be inspired from the Harrier EV concept that debuted at Auto Expo 2023. The new model will have a new front fascia with a vertically stacked LED headlamps, a new connected LED DRL running across the bonnet’s width and new front bumper.

The rear-end is likely to receive new LED tail-lights and a revised tailgate, and new bumper. The side profile is most likely to remain unchanged, except for the new set of alloys. It is expected that the new model could get bigger 19-inch alloy wheels instead of 18-inch alloys on the current model. The connected LED Tail-lamps will come with Audi-like dynamic turn indicators.

The cabin won’t receive huge changes, as Tata recently gave more modern features in the outgoing model. It is likely to get minimal changes like a Land Rover-inspired gear lever for the AT variants, new seat upholstery and others. The SUV will continue to offer features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch fully digital instrument console, automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front and second row seats. The SUV will have six airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control and others.

More ADAS Features & Petrol Engine

The new Safari is also likely to get an updated ADAS tech. The current model misses out on the adaptive cruise control feature, which is likely to be offered in the updated model. The 2024 Tata Safari will retain the existing 2.0L turbo diesel engine that produces 170PS and 350Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic gearbox. It is also likely to get a new 1.5L T-GDI turbo petrol engine that debuted at the Auto Expo 2023. This engine is capable of producing 170bhp and 280Nm of torque. It is also likely to be offered with a dual-clutch transmission.

The exterior is available in a new color palette which includes Cosmic Gold, Galactic Sapphire, Stardust Ash, Stellar Frost, Oberon Black, Supernova Copper, and Lunar Slate. Customers can choose the color options in accordance to the variant they go for. Speaking of the variants, Tata Motors has reworked on its variant strategy with the new Safari, offering a range of 10 variants: Smart (O), Pure (O), Adventure, Adventure+, Adventure+ Dark, Accomplished, Accomplished Dark, Accomplished+ Dark, Adventure+ A, and Accomplished+. Tata Safari also comes equipped with a 31.24 cm touchscreen infotainment screen featuring wireless mobile connectivity, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a new interface,  a 10-speaker JBL sound system, ambient lighting, and a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo. The list of features continues with a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats and air purifier. On the safety front the new Tata Safari gets an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) safety suite along with up to 7 airbags (6 airbags as standard), electronic stability control (ESC), hill assist, a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Under the hood, the new Safari houses a BS6 Phase 2-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine generating 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed torque converter, delivering power to the front wheels. The Tata Safari is the flagship model for the Indian car maker that was first introduced in the country in 2021. At that time, the focus was as much on drawing inspiration from an iconic name as was on putting a brand-new model on a pedestal. This eventually resulted in the introduction of a three-row vehicle that promised SUV-like style but claimed MPV-like comfort. Fast forward just two years and the updated Tata Safari has a new wardrobe to show off in 2023.

And then there is the pivotal factor of in-car features - the more, the better, even if you end up not using a significant chunk of these in the long run. The Koreans started the trend and rivals like Tata Motors are only too keen to hit back. The Tata Safari, therefore, was always going to be pampered and peppered with features galore. So how do all of these factors come together to manifest in the flagship product from Tata Motors? Here is the first-drive review of the 2023 Tata Safari facelift:

2023 tata safari facelift: exterior.

The updated Safari looks a tad bit more sporty compared to the outgoing model, while still retaining its largely sophisticated exterior design language. The face, for instance, has been reworked and now sports a new grille, a reworked vertical housing for the fog lamps and headlights, and a stretched DRL bar that connects the sequential DRLs on either side. In a nutshell, the comprehensive updates of the front fascia have given the SUV a butch yet premium look, making it significantly distinctive from the previous model which it has replaced.

There is not much change in the side profile of the new Tata Safari SUV, apart from the reworked alloy design on the 19-inch wheels. The design is likely to evoke different reactions from different viewpoints instead of inviting unilateral awe. But what works really well is how Tata Motors' designers have managed to snub the use of chrome elements and still come up with a visually striking profile. Overall, the side profile of the SUV looks slightly curvy and pretty clean. The subtly flared wheel arches give the SUV a bold and muscular look, while the new design alloy wheels enhance the premium sporty feel.

There are no chrome elements on the rear of the Safari either, where a stretched LED bar connects the two tail lights and runs all across the length of the trunk door which, by the way, offers powered powered-open option. Besides that, the tailgate looks pretty sculpted thanks to the glossy black panel running through the centre of the trunk that also houses the sleek LED bar. The integrated roof spoiler and chunky black bumper with a thick metal skid plate are other design elements that come enhancing the SUV's bold visual appearance.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Interior

The new Tata Safari's cabin has become much more premium now and a slew of updates to the feature list as well as to the upholstery lend the vehicle a premium appeal that would have otherwise been restricted to models in segments above the one this car competes in. The top-end Accomplished variant - or persona, as Tata Motors refers to it, comes with a dual-tone colour scheme inside the cabin but the White theme on the seats would be quite hard to maintain in pristine condition.

The layered dashboard now gets an artificial wood panel which is a nice touch while the central section is dominated by a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display unit that is intuitive, puts out clear feed from the 360-degree cameras and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The map feed can also be redirected to the all-digital driver display screen for better navigation which now sports customisable layouts.

The steering wheel has also been updated and is now a four-spoke set with mounted controls and has an illuminated Tata logo on it. This is certainly another nice touch from Tata Motors enhancing the premium quotient inside the cabin of the new Safari SUV. The updated steering wheel is quite easy to operate and control the advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) functionalities that this car offers, courtesy of the layout of the control buttons on the wheel. On that note, the new Tata Safari SUV offers 11 ADAS functions in a further bid to aid driving safety and convenience.

There are plenty of other convenience features that the new Safari packs as well, whether it is the dual-zone climate control function, air purification system, ventilated seats at the front and middle, voice-activated panoramic sunroof, Alexa to Home technology or remote access to the vehicle.

Space remains the same inside the cabin of the new Tata Safari, which means that the SUV continues to be a decently spacious vehicle for passengers in all three rows. Space in that third row, however, continues to come at the cost of a compromised boot storage space. But that's really expected, right?

Overall, the new Tata Safari SUV come as a very well-appointed vehicle with quite a lot of space for comfortable long trips but now, at least in the top-spec version, is significantly more premium than before.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Safety

Tata Motors has been taking the front row across different segments in the Indian passenger vehicle market over the last few years when it comes to making safe cars. While the modern Tata cars come with a wide range of safety features, they also come with robust build quality as well. The Tata Safari facelift too comes following the same strategy.

The Tata Safari comes well-equipped with a host of safety features designed to provide peace of mind to the occupants. Some of the advanced safety technologies available onboard the Tata Safari facelift include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, rain-sensing wipers, rollover mitigation, hill hold control, 360-degree view HD camera system, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, front collision prevention function, blind spot detection etc. Moreover, it also gets features like ABS with EBD, Isofix child seat anchors etc.

Here is where the updated Tata Safari SUV could have been improved so much more. But isn't. So much has already been mentioned - and experienced - about the 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor under the hood and the choice between an automatic gearbox and a six-speed manual stick. Yes, the turbocharged diesel motor could have been refined further. Yes, the grunt is still uncomfortably palpable when pushing the vehicle to its limits. But yes, the new Tata Safari - especially with the automatic transmission - is still quite a fun car to drive and has enough power to get a move on when required. The suspension continues to hold its own on rough roads and the steering still has a nice heft to aid matters.

But why this otherwise very capable model does not also come with a petrol engine under its hood is beyond the comprehension of many. Tata Motors is almost snubbing the petrol-buying audience in the country, a group that is steadily increasing. There is also no 4x4 option for the updated version of the SUV because the platform on which the new Tata Safari is based on does not allow for it. But here is also a miss, especially as this model does go up against authentic off-road options in the market as well.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Verdict

The updated Tata Safari is a big step up in terms of its exterior design and cabin features and quality when compared to the previous model. Space has always been this car's strength but the additions to the feature list arm this SUV to the absolute teeth.

The diesel motor and the automatic transmission work extremely well in tandem but as mentioned previously, Tata Motors ought to strongly consider a petrol option for the model as well, especially considering the number of buyers favouring the petrol engines are increasing across India over the last few years

Tata Motors reports 14% YoY growth in March 2024 sales

Tata Motors , a key player in the Indian automotive industry, has reported its sales figures for March 2024. The company retailed a total of 50,105 units during this period. This represents a significant year-on-year (YoY) growth of 14% from the 44,047 units sold in March 2023. However, there was a slight month-on-month (MoM) decrease of 2% compared to February 2024's sales of 51,270 units.

Punch emerges as top performer for Tata Motors

The Punch model emerged as the top performer for Tata Motors in March 2024, with sales reaching an impressive 17,547 units. This signifies a remarkable YoY growth of 61%. On the other hand, the Nexon compact SUV experienced a slight dip in sales with 14,058 units sold. This marked a YoY decrease of 5% and a MoM decline of 2%.

Tiago and Altroz show mixed performance

The Tiago and Altroz followed closely behind the Punch, with sales figures of 6,381 and 5,985 units respectively. The Tiago experienced a YoY decrease of 13%. In contrast, the Altroz model saw significant YoY growth of around 55%. Despite these mixed results, both cars contributed significantly to Tata Motors' overall sales in March 2024.

Harrier, Safari, and Tigor witness varied sales

Tata's flagship SUVs, the Safari and Harrier, also made their mark in March's sales. The Safari sold 2,063 units marking a YoY growth of 9%. However, the Harrier experienced a YoY decline of 20% with sales figures standing at 2,054 units. The Tigor sedan reported sales of 2,017 units but witnessed a sharp YoY decline of 25%.

Tata Motors sold a total of 50,105 units in the month of March 2024; Punch stood at the top spot followed by the Nexon

Tata Motors has been quite proactive in launching new products in the Indian market and it is one of the key reasons behind its soaring sales figures. March 2024 is no different and the Indian carmaker finished the month by selling 50,105 units, thereby acquiring the third spot in the domestic sales.

This is a big jump from the previous year’s figures of 44,047 units, registering a YOY growth of 14 per cent. The MOM analysis reveals a 2% decline as the company sold 51,270 units in March 2024.

Talking about the model-wise sales, the Punch continues to be the Indian carmaker’s top performer with 17,547 units in the bag, registering a staggering 61 per cent YOY growth. The popular compact SUV Nexon’s sales bar stood at 14,058 units, a 5 per cent decline from the previous year. Similarly, Nexon also lost by 2 per cent in the MOM comparison.

Trailing behind these high-volume pullers are the Tiago and Altroz with 6,381 and 5,985 units, respectively. The entry-level hatchback Tiago registered a YOY sales decline of 13 per cent while the Altroz saw an upward trajectory with 55 per cent YOY growth. Tata’s flagship SUVs, the Harrier and Safari’s performed decently last month in contrast.

The Safari posted a sales number of 2,063 units while the Harrier’s figures stood at 2,054 units. The former registered a 9 per cent YOY growth while the latter’s YOY sales saw a 20 per cent decline. Last but not least, the Tigor sedan sold 2,017 units in March 2024 and the YOY graph plummeted with a 13 per cent decline.

To conclude, the Punch and Altorz are the top gainers in YOY analysis while the Tigor’s sales declined the most. Every model except Altroz and Tigor experienced a MOM decline in March 2024. Tata is planning to introduce the Curvv in its ICE and EV guises next in India while the Harrier EV, Nexon CNG and Altroz Racer will also launch along the course of this calendar year.

The Tata Punch EV is being offered with discounts and benefits of up to Rs 50,000 for the first time since its launch in January 2024. However, this maximum amount is only available on the top-spec Punch EV Empowered +S LR AC fast charger (FC) variant.

Dealer sources tell us that in the run up to the launch of the Punch EV on January 17, Tata dealerships around India had reportedly received a larger number of units of the top-spec Empowered +S LR variant that comes with the faster 7.2kW AC charger (AC FC). In order to move this inventory, dealerships are offering a flat Rs 20,000 discount, along with benefits on insurance and additional dealer discounts – totalling up to Rs 50,000 – depending on unsold inventory.

Nearly every Tata showroom has about five to 10 units of the Punch EV Empowered +S LR AC FC, which is expected to be sold with these discounts. This could bring ex-showroom prices of the top-spec model down from Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. Even at this price point, the top-spec  Citroen eC3 Shine Dual Tone Vibe is Rs 1.5 lakh more affordable, with a price tag of Rs 13.49 lakh; however, it is sparsely equipped.

As its name suggests, the Punch EV Empowered +S LR AC FC variant gets the larger 35kWh battery with an ARAI-rated 421km of range, the more powerful 122hp motor and premium features such as an electronic parking brake, hill-descent control, a sunroof, ambient lighting, leatherette seats, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and driver display duties.
