For over 30 years,  JOHN 5  has been one of the most in-demand guitar players on the planet. As well as a songwriter/guitarist for hire,  JOHN 5  has shared the stage as axe-man for  Rob Zombie ,  Marilyn Manson  and  Rob Halford . He has also worked with an impressive array of names, from all walks of music, including  KD Lang ,  Rod Stewart ,  Dave Lee Roth ,  Alice Cooper ,  Tina Guo, Lynyrd, Meatloaf, Ricky Martin  and  Steven Adler .

In October 2022, it was announced that  John 5  would be joining  Mötley Crüe  as their guitarist following the announcement that  Mick Mars  would be retiring.  John 5  recently completed the  Mötley Crüe’s  2023 world tour with  Def Leppard.

To call  JOHN 5  a shredder does not do him justice. There’s little he can’t put his hand to.

John 5 and the Creatures Announce 2024 US Tour

The guitarist is embarking on his first solo tour since joining Mötley Crüe

John 5 and the Creatures have announced an early 2024 US tour.

The trek kicks off on January 26th in Santa Ana, California, and will see the guitarist playing shows in Los Angeles, New York City, and Houston, in addition to smaller markets. The outing will conclude on March 1st in San Diego.

Tickets go on sale Friday, August 11th at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster . Alternatively, and for sold-out shows, you can pick up tickets on StubHub — where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

“I am really looking forward to see all of you monsters on the road!” remarked John 5 in a press release.

It will mark John 5’s first solo tour since he joined Mötley Crüe as Mick Mars’ replacement. The guitarist is currently on the road with his new band, fulfilling dates on the Crüe’s US tour with Def Leppard and Alice Cooper .

Fan-filmed videos show guitarist John 5 making his live debut with Motley Crue in New Jersey

Motley Crue performed live for the first time with new guitarist John 5 on the night they kicked off their 2023 World Tour with Def Leppard .

John 5's debut came at Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Fan-filmed footage of the show can be viewed below.

The Rob Zombie guitarist was named as Mick Mars' replacement for Motley Crue live performances last year, after Mars confirmed he was stepping down due to his ongoing painful struggle with Ankylosing Spondylitis.

After Friday night's show in New Jersey, John 5 wrote in an Instagram post: "Last night was a night I will never forget thank you to Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee and all of the amazing Crue fans for having me along for this insane ride."

Crue and Def Leppard play a second New Jersey show tonight (Saturday, February 11) before heading to South America.

Mötley Crüe begin rehearsals with new guitarist John 5 ahead of world tour

The Rob Zombie guitarist had been busy practicing his chops ahead of official rehearsals through his Mötley Monday series of Crüe covers

Mötley Crüe have officially begun rehearsals for their upcoming world tour with their new guitarist, John 5.

Due to commence next month, the sprawling seven-month tour will be the Rob Zombie axeman’s first with Mötley Crüe, having been drafted in last year to replace the band’s founding guitarist, Mick Mars.

Mars, who has been battling ankylosing spondylitis for much of his life, officially retired from touring late last year , and – after months of intense online speculation – was replaced by John 5, who will serve as the band’s onstage six-stringer.

Now, Crüe bass guitar player Nikki Sixx has confirmed rehearsals for the forthcoming tour have commenced, writing, “42 years and I still get excited about the first day of band rehearsal. Here we go.”

In the comments, John 5 himself replied, “I’m more excited can’t wait buddy”, while the band’s vocalist Vince Neil confirmed in a post of his own that he has recovered from Covid and is “ready to conquer the world”.

Though we’ve seen John 5 cover various Mötley Crüe tracks since his appointment – such as Too Fast For Love – we’ve yet to see any footage of the whole band playing together. Fortunately, since rehearsals have now started, we’d wager a clip or two will make their way on to social media ahead of the tour.

That, and John 5 had been sneaking Mötley Crüe covers into his live solo sets well before the general public had any idea a lineup change was coming.

In a further attempt to perfect his Crüe chops, John 5 has also been indulging in “Mötley Mondays” – a recurring Instagram series during which he covers tracks from across the band’s repertoire. Previous installments have seen John 5 take on Looks That Kill , Louder Than Hell , Primal Scream and more.

When he was first announced as the new Mötley Crüe guitarist, John 5 said he was “honored to carry on Mick’s legacy” and voiced his excitement ahead of playing Crue’s catalog of tracks live with the band.

The band, meanwhile, called him an “absolutely outstanding musician” and a worthy candidate to replace Mars.

John 5 has received support from all corners of the guitar world following his recruitment, with Sixx revealing the band picked him to replace Mars as he’s an “insane player”.

“He checks all the boxes,” Sixx wrote on social media. “He's an insane player. Has respect for our music, is funny as fuck and has history with us and we've written some pretty big hits together.”

Mötley Crüe’s world tour is set to kick off on February 10 at Hard Rock Live in Atlantic City, and will conclude with a show at the El Paso Sun Bowl Stadium on August 18.

John 5 Will Tour with Mötley Crüe in Place of Mick Mars

Mars has retired from touring due to ongoing health issues

Mötley Crüe have confirmed that Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 will be taking the place of original guitarist Mick Mars for the band’s upcoming World Tour with Def Leppard. Mars, 71, retired from touring on Wednesday due to his “ongoing painful struggle” with Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.), a degenerative disease which affects the spine. While it had been rumored, Mötley Crüe confirmed John 5’s involvement with the band in an official statement Thursday.

While change is never easy, we accept Mick’s decision to retire from the band due to the challenges with his health. We have watched Mick manage his Ankylosing Spondylitis for decades and he has always managed it with utmost courage and grace. To say ‘enough is enough’ is the ultimate act of courage. Mick’s sound helped define Mötley Crüe from the minute he plugged in his guitar at our very first rehearsal together. The rest, as they say, is history. We’ll continue to honor his musical legacy. We will carry out Mick’s wish and continue to tour the world as planned in 2023. No doubt will it take an absolutely outstanding musician to fill Mick’s shoes so we are grateful that our good friend, John 5 has agreed to come on board and join us moving forward. We’ll see all you Crüeheads out on the road! – Vince, Tommy, and Nikki [Mötley Crüe] 

John 5 adds, “I am honored to carry on Mick’s legacy and am looking forward to playing these songs.”

It has been rumored for the past few days that John 5 would be taking Mars’ place on stage. The rumor carried a lot of weight given John 5’s history with The Crüe. In 2019, John 5 co-wrote the songs “The Dirt,” “Crash and Burn,” and “Ride with the Devil” for the soundtrack to Netflix’s Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt .

John 5 is also very close with Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, whom he called his “best friend.” In a 2019 interview with Outburn Magazine , John 5 said of Sixx,”We love each other. He has inspired me and taught me so much about life in general. He’s a phenomenal songwriter, lyricist, author, everything. He’s always telling me to listen to this audio book or see this movie. He has a happy marriage, a happy life, a successful band he started from the ground up. He’s one of the most inspiring people. He’ll text me all the time to read something or try something. It’s wonderful. He’s a phenomenal photographer as well. I remember him telling me that he’s going to take bass lessons again and get into playing with his fingers. He was so dedicated.”

In addition to his current work with Rob Zombie, John 5 has also toured and recorded extensively with Marilyn Manson, Rod Stewart, David Lee Roth (Van Halen), among others.

Next year, Mötley Crüe will be continuing with The World Tour alongside Def Leppard. The trek kicks off on February 18, 2023 in Mexico City, MX. In May, the European leg begins with a performance in Sheffield, UK. Stream the official tour trailer below. In addition to their own headlining dates, both bands are slated to perform at some of the world’s biggest rock music festivals including Sweden Rock Festival, Finland RockFest, COPENHELL in Denmark, and Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium.

Mick Mars’ final performance with Mötley Crüe came on September 9 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on The Stadium Tour .

CONCERT REVIEW: The Chiller Diller Concert Thriller – JOHN 5 And THE CREATURES Take on The Chance Theater (May 11th, 2022)

John 5 and The Creatures featuring Ian Ross [bass], Alex Mercado [drums], and of course John 5 [guitar]are currently on their 2022 North American Sinner Tour with special guest, The Haxans . This Wednesday’s show was at The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie, New York.

If there is such a thing as being a good sinner, John 5 is a master of it with his guitar playing. He has long been one of the most respected guitarists starting with his days in Marilyn Manson . His fame has grown exponentially since working with David Lee Roth , then joining Rob Zombie ‘s band, as well as having a very successful solo career. Riding high on the praises from his latest instrumental guitar album, “Sinner,” John 5 has solidified his ranking in the guitar god world with Satriani , Vai , Johnson , and Malmsteen .

When the lights went out at The Chance Theater, the terror began with John 5 ‘s 90-minute set. There was a solid mix of his solo classics, surprise songs from his back catalog, and a healthy dose of songs from the latest album. The show opened with dark “First Victim,” with John 5 appearing on stage playing his Lava Lamp Telecaster using a violin bow and wearing a skeleton mask. Those are the moments nightmares are made of. If this was just the intro to the show, you instinctively knew things were going to be bat-shit crazy!  Grabbing his trademark gold Fender Telecaster, affectionately named “Goldy,” he tore into an explosive version of “Season of the Witch.” With the perfect wind-up and pitch, it fed nicely in “Que Pasa” with its sampled Dave Mustaine vocals.

His stage set-up was as entertaining and enthralling as his guitar playing. He incorporated four plasma screens continuously flashing horror movie clips and Hanna-Barbera-esque cartoon characters, all synced to gloomy yet colorful lighting. At one point in the show, a dancing hype John 5 robot came out with a toy ray gun, followed by a chainsaw welding maniac.

John 5 took all the fans and guitarists in the audience at The Chance theater to ghoul school with his playing and macabre antics. Some will go home and practice, while others will smash their instrument to bits. Either way, it was one hell of a show. John 5 and The Creatures concert will take your breath away… all of it!

Mark Allen completed an impressive comeback against John Higgins in their first round clash at the 2024 Tour Championship in Manchester. Allen had been trailing 4-1, but pulled it back to go into the evening session at 4-4 and eventually triumphed 10-7. Gary Wilson opened up a 5-3 lead over Mark Selby, while Mark Williams has the same advantage over Tom Ford.

Ronnie opens up on mental health

Ronnie O'Sullivan has opened up about his mental state and revealed he is putting focus into speaking to his psychiatrist.

I've just got to commit to it [speaking to a psychiatrist] now for a good year to try to get myself out of this sort of hole I've got myself in mentally with the obsession of the game, tinkering. I know I'm never going to stop tinkering, but I have to somehow get my head strong enough to be able to deal with it and not go too deep into that horrible murky world that it is. Every sportsman - maybe golfers, tennis players, snooker players - I suppose we all do it, but I went so deep into that it's like detoxing myself from it. It kind of felt like I've had the yips in a way - mentally, physically - it feels like you get scared to even want to go and play. World Central Kitchen victims remembered for going ‘extra mile’ to deliver aid

Soon after learning of his friend’s death, Josh Phelps saw the gruesome images of an Israeli attack that killed her and six others delivering aid in the Gaza Strip for World Central Kitchen.

“It was shocking,” said Phelps, a former WCK colleague of Australian aid worker Lalzawmi Frankcom.

He had just texted Frankcom — known as Zomi — the day before, when photos of the pair delivering food to a Native American reservation in Pine Ridge, S.D., popped up on his phone.

He sent them to her, and she responded with a heart. Hours later, she was dead.

Frankcom, 43, was among seven WCK workers who the nonprofit said were killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza on Monday. It has pushed WCK and at least one other group to pause aid operations as famine looms over besieged Gaza and pressure mounts on Israel over the rising Palestinian civilian death toll.

The attack on the organization founded by celebrity chef José Andrés drew international rebuke and calls for a thorough investigation by Israel.

Frankcom, an Australian citizen who served as relief lead according to WCK, was one of seven killed in the strike. The organization later gave the names of three members of WCK relief team who died: Saifeddin Issam Ayad Abutaha, a 25-year-old Palestinian; Damian Soból, a 35-year-old from Poland; and Jacob Flickinger, a 33-year-old dual U.S.-Canadian citizen.

Three British members of an accompanying security team were also killed: John Chapman, 57; James Henderson, 33; and James Kirby, 47.

WCK said the team was traveling in the Palestinian enclave in vehicles that included two armored cars branded with the World Central Kitchen logo. The aid group said it had coordinated its movement with the Israeli military.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli forces “unintentionally hit innocent people” and that Israel would fully investigate the “tragic incident.”

Phelps, who left WCK in 2021, remembered Frankcom as a person who could make lifelong friends in the direst situations. “You knew when Zomi was in the room,” he said. “She loved to laugh, loved to have a good time.”

The two met in 2018 after a volcano eruption in Guatemala, as Frankcom was traveling in Central America and taking classes online after leaving a job at an Australian bank. She began helping to provide food aid with WCK. Her work took her around the world, including Paradise, Calif.; Egypt; and Turkey. “She just bonded with every community she worked in,” Phelps said.

The last mission they did together was in Haiti in 2021. “She was riding around delivering food on the back of motorcycles,” Phelps recalled. “Her sense of responsibility to the people we serve and to go the extra mile was really special — and also to keep a great attitude.”

Israel-Gaza war

That attitude took her to Gaza. When Phelps messaged on WhatsApp to ask how she was feeling, she wrote back: “I’m getting used to the drones but the booms still make my tummy go funny.”

Her death shook people she had met around the world, Phelps said. “She had a zest for life, a heart for service,” he added. “People will remember her.”

Australian officials condemned the strike and said they had contacted Israeli authorities and called for an investigation. “We expect full accountability for these deaths,” the Australian Foreign Ministry said.

Yousef Sharef said Abutaha was a cousin working with the WCK team in Gaza whose death was a “big loss” to the family and a shock. “He was a friendly, lovely person, and he used to always do good things and to support people who need help,” Sharef said.

Britain summoned the Israeli ambassador, due to the incident, the Foreign Office said in a statement. Separately, Foreign Secretary David Cameron told Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz that the deaths of “aid workers in Gaza, including three British nationals, are completely unacceptable.” Cameron said Israel must explain how the attack happened and “make major changes to ensure safety of aid workers on the ground.”

Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said she was “horrified” to hear of the strike, which she confirmed had killed a Canadian citizen. Joly said Canada demanded “full accountability for these killings.” U.S. Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew said he was “deeply saddened by the devastating loss of a U.S. citizen” in the killings.

“We’ve spoken directly to the Israeli government about this particular incident. We’ve urged a swift, a thorough and impartial investigation,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters in Paris.

Poland’s Foreign Ministry extended its “deepest condolences to the family of the volunteer who was providing aid to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.” The ministry said it objected to the “disregard for international humanitarian law.”

The mayor of the Polish city of Przemysl identified the victim as Soból, who he described as an aid volunteer.

“There are no words to describe the feelings of people who knew this amazing young man right now,” wrote Mayor Wojciech Bakun.

Aparna Branz, a former WCK volunteer, said she got to know Soból while volunteering in Poland and Ukraine in 2022. She described him as “always smiling, kind, patient and ready to help anyone anytime.”

“He was one of the bright lights in those horrible months,” Branz said. She also remembered him as a devoted son who often spoke on the phone with his mother.

The two met again working in the aftermath of last year’s earthquake in Morocco . Branz recalled that Soból was busy getting ready to leave for Rafah at the time, but still, “typical to Damian, he helped me navigate the logistics of transportation, of where to go and where to stay.”

During their work together in the early days of the war in Ukraine, “we didn’t talk about our reason for being there,” she said. “We just wanted to help.”

President Joe Biden on Friday took an aerial tour of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge, met with families of the six men killed and was briefed on the massive cleanup and rebuilding efforts before doubling down on his promise to have the federal government pay for it all.

“From the air I saw a bridge that’s been ripped apart. Here on the ground, I see a community that’s been pulled together,” Biden said on the banks of the Patapsco River as the sun broke through the overcast sky to illuminate the crash site in the distance behind him.

Wearing a jacket and baseball cap in the whipping wind, Biden committed to moving “heaven and earth to rebuild this bridge as rapidly as humanly possible.” He reiterated his pledge for the federal government to pay for the entire response — a process that began last week with quick access to federal emergency relief funds and the drafting of legislation to cover the rest.

The Democratic president’s visit came a little over a week after a 984-foot shipping vessel hit the Key Bridge, sending it tumbling into the river and killing six construction workers who were filling potholes in the middle of the night. Biden said Friday he was grieving for the families of those men.

“It’s not the same but I know a little bit about what it’s like to lose a piece of your soul,” said Biden, whose wife and daughter were killed when he was a young senator, and whose son died of cancer in 2015. “You get that phone call in the middle of night saying family members are gone. I’ve been there. It’s feeling like having a black hole in your chest. Like you’re being sucked in unable to breathe. The anger, pain, the depth of loss is so profound.”

Before his remarks outside, Biden toured the site from Marine One with Gov. Wes Moore , who traveled on the president’s helicopter from the White House. The pair then received a briefing at the Maryland Transportation Authority Police Headquarters, where they heard directly about efforts to clear the channel and restore both shipping traffic in the Port of Baltimore and road transportation.

Biden listened quietly and asked a handful of questions before greeting first responders during the roughly 15-minute information session. Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers leaders walked Biden through what’s been happening in the water, including work to clear an initial channel for some vessels by the end of April. Four large television screens depicted maps and images of the bridge site. Biden in one moment pointed to an image of the tangled underwater situation asking whether it was steel, though his other questions could not be heard by a small group of reporters in the room. Told of the unified state, local and federal efforts, the president at one point turned to Moore, directly to his left, and gave him an assuring tap on the shoulder. He went on to greet, one by one, law enforcement officers who stopped traffic on the bridge just moments before it collapsed.

Moore thanked Biden for his support, saying his first call from the White House was around 3 a.m. after the bridge fell around 1:30 a.m.

“President Biden might not be a Marylander by birth. But I tell you, he has proven what it means to be Maryland tough and Baltimore strong,” Moore said, referencing the mantra he’s used since the bridge collapse.

The Army Corps of Engineers said Thursday that it was pushing an “ ambitious timeline ” to return port access to “normal capacity” by the end of May. A channel 280 feet wide and 35 deep that would allow barge container service and some vessels to pass through could also be open by the end of April.

Meanwhile, the remains of three of the six men who were killed when the bridge came down remain in the water, and the 21 crew members onboard the Singapore-flagged Dali are still on board .

“We’ll never forget the contribution these men made to this city. We’re going to work hard to recover each of them,” Biden said of the victims, adding his “vow is to not rest” until the bridge is rebuilt.

A $60 million “down payment” from the federal government was  approved within days , allowing for vital cleanup work as cranes began arriving and removing the debris. Most of the additional emergency relief funds, in an account flush with nearly $1 billion, can be approved by Biden. Some will need congressional approval, though, and Democratic U.S. Rep. Kweisi Mfume, of Baltimore, said he’d introduce legislation next week to cover that and other federal funding issues. With the far-right Freedom Caucus saying Friday it would force the Key Bridge funds to be contingent on other compromises, Mfume said the threat was intended to be obstructionist and that Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has told him he “understands the weight and the depth” of the problem.

Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young, in a letter to Congress on Friday, asked for them to ensure that the federal government pays for 100% of the costs. She said the administration would pursue “any compensation for damages or insurance proceeds” to reduce the burden on taxpayers.

“Your nation has your back and I mean it,” Biden said.

The financial impact will be immense. Total costs for a new bridge could run high into the hundreds of millions, and insurance claims expected to reach $1 billion or more could make the collapse the maritime industry’s largest-ever financial loss .

Other officials who joined the president in his Baltimore briefing Friday were U.S. Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, Mfume, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, Baltimore County Executive John Olszewski Jr. and Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman. All are Democrats and have taken steps within local or federal government to advance the relief efforts for the victims families, businesses that relied on the bridge and port, and plan for rebuilding.

Biden spoke of his own personal connections to the bridge and to Baltimore, where his father was born and his great great grandfather worked as a waterman. Of the roughly 30,000 vehicles that traveled across it every day, he was one of them, commuting from Delaware to Washington, D.C., when he was a senator.

“Folks, we now face a question no American should ever have to ask: ‘How will I get to work? How will I get to school? How will I get to the hospital?’” Biden said. “The response of everyone, including Congress, should be asking only one question, and they’re going to be asked a question by your delegation, ‘How can we help?’”

MÖTLEY CRÜE held its first rehearsal with the former ROB ZOMBIE and MARILYN MANSON guitarist on January 23 in preparation for the band's shows with DEF LEPPARD . A short time later, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx took to his Twitter to write: "Well that was fucking epic.

"@john5guitarist walks into rehearsal and we just rip the set from top to bottom seamlessly. That took 90 minute's and then the next few hours we just laughed and told dumb rockstar war stories.

"@MotleyCrue DAY 1".

He followed that up with an Instagram Story post thanking the band's crew and gushing that "today sounded insane."

John 5 joined CRÜE as the replacement for founding guitarist Mick Mars , who announced last October he would no longer tour with the legendary rock act because of his long struggles with degenerative disease ankylosing spondylitis. Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that causes inflammation in the spine joints and ligaments and can lead to stiffness over time, according to the National Institute Of Arthritis And Musculoskeletal And Skin Diseases.

In October, Sixx praised John 5 , saying he "checks all the boxes" as Mars 's replacement following the latter's decision to retire from touring. Sixx commented on John 5 's addition to CRÜE while answering fan questions on Twitter . Asked why the band chose John 5 , who is one of the credited co-writers on the three original songs on CRÜE 's "The Dirt" soundtrack, Sixx said: "He checks all the boxes. He's a insane player. Has respect for our music, is funny as fuck and has history with us and we've written some pretty big hits together."

Sixx also addressed Mars 's announcement that he was retiring from touring, saying: "He's been a soldier along with us for 4 decades. We will continue to carrying our legacy to Generations of fans and honor Mick s request for us to keep touring as Motley Crue ."

In addition to co-writing the three songs on "The Dirt" , John 5 collaborated with Sixx and Desmond Child on Meat Loaf 's "The Monster Is Loose" . In 2021, Sixx and John 5 launched the L.A. RATS supergroup in which they were joined by Rob Zombie and drummer Tommy Clufetos .

The 71-year-old Mars — whose real name is Robert Alan Deal — served as MÖTLEY CRÜE 's lead guitarist since the band's inception in 1981.

In his statement, Mick said that he had decided to step back from live shows due to his "ongoing painful struggle" with ankylosing spondylitis and while he will continue to be a member of the band, he cannot "handle the rigors" of touring life.

Speculation about John 5 replacing Mars gained strength after the longtime ROB ZOMBIE guitarist failed to appear with the shock rocker at last year's Aftershock festival in Sacramento. Rob was instead joined on stage by returning guitarist Mike Riggs for the first time since 2006.

MÖTLEY CRÜE 's "The Stadium Tour" with DEF LEPPARD , POISON and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS was originally scheduled to take place in the summer of 2020 but ended up being pushed back to 2021, and then to 2022, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

After selling more than 1.3 million tickets in 2022, MÖTLEY CRÜE and DEF LEPPARD and are going global in 2023 with their co-headline "The World Tour" along with special guest Alice Cooper . After the launch of European and Latin American dates, additional U.S. shows will take place in August.

It’s the final week before the season’s first major, with four of the world’s top-10 players heading to TPC San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open.

The Aon Swing 5 for the RBC Heritage will also be finalized this week. With less than 10 FedExCup points separating Nos. 5 to 7 in the Aon Swing 5 standings heading into this week, it’s set to be a dramatic finish at TPC San Antonio.

The winner – if not already qualified – also earns the final invite to the Masters, something that’s happened in two of the last four Valero Texas Opens.

Here’s everything else you need to know as the TOUR’s Texas two-step continues in San Antonio.

FIELD NOTES: Rory McIlroy returns to make his third start of this event’s TPC San Antonio era; he finished runner-up in 2013 and missed the cut in 2022. Since McIlroy’s last Valero start, he has won six times worldwide … Corey Conners will look to become the first back-to-back winner at the Valero Texas Open since Zach Johnson in 2008-09. The downhill holes often play into the prevailing wind while uphill holes play downwind. This is the 15th time the design will play host to the Valero Texas Open.

LAST TIME: Corey Conners won the Valero Texas Open for the second time in his career, closing with a 4-under 68. Conners was a shot back of Patrick Rodgers through 54 holes, but the Canadian built up a three-shot advantage through 15 holes Sunday. Rookie Sam Stevens eagled the par-5 17th but missed a 9-foot birdie try on the 72nd hole that would have tied it. Conners, who had the first-round lead after a 64, tapped in for par on 18 to win by one. Sam Ryder and Matt Kuchar finished a shot back of Stevens, at 13 under, and tied for third. Rodgers shot a 1-over 73 in the final round and ended up fifth.

2024 Hero Indian Open: Prize Money Breakdown and Winner’s Payout

D P World Tour continued with its Asian Swing stopping at India after Singapore. The DLF Golf and Country Club, a course endorsed by Gary Player , is hosting the country’s national open, jointly sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGTI. This is the tenth year since the Hero Indian Open became part of the European Tour’s calendar. 

A victory here will pave the path for the Asian Swing Champion. As part of the revamped DPWT format, there will be five global swings and each swing will have its respective champion, and additional perks – a $200,000 bonus. Here is the full purse size and winner’s payout at the Hero Indian Open.

Hero Indian Open purse size breakdown

The 57th edition of the Hero Indian Open boasts an elevated purse of $2.25M, up $250,000 from last year . This is also the highest for the DLF Golf and Country Club event. Last year, German star, Marcel Siem pocketed $340,000 for his single-shot triumph over Yannik Paul . Keita Nakajima, the third-round leader, stands to gain $42,500 more this year. 

Hero Indian Open has a field rating of 92.05 with 15.83 points reserved for the winner. Also, of note is the 3000 Race to Dubai Rankings points available for players. Japanese rookie Keita Nakajima has surged ahead with a four-point cushion ahead of the final round. But the packed leaderboard offers hopes of a tough fight in the final round of the Hero Indian Open.

Players to watch out for on Sunday

Two big names headline the field, Rasmus Hojgaard , the twin brother of Nicolai Hojgaard, and Alex Fitzpatrick , brother of Ryder Cupper, and Matthew Fitzpatrick exited early on after missing the cut . But Keita Nakajima took the full chance to cash in on the opportunity drawing the spotlight to himself at the Hero Indian Open.

The 23-year-old earned his DP World Tour card through the Japanese Golf Tour’s Order of the Merit. The 2021 Asian Amateur Championship winner was the world’s no. 1 amateur for 87 weeks straight, shattering Jon Rahm ’s previous record of 60. Nakajima backed up his stellar 65 in the first two rounds with a 68 on the moving day. Gavin Green of Malaysia and French International, Romain Langasque , are chasing on his heels at 14-under.

Europe’s very own and once a PGA Tour hotshot, Matteo Manassero is tied at fourth at 13-under. Just two weeks back, the Italian netted his first DP World Tour victory in 11 years at the Jonsson Workwear Championship. Hometown favorite, Veer Ahlawat kept his chances alive shooting 69 on the moving day. Ahlawat is the lone Indian inside the top ten carving out a solo sixth in the packed Hero Indian Open leaderboard.
