With JourneyCart, we planned honeymoon tour to Mauritius. We got a decent hotel booking by Journey Cart. The hotel serves Indian food and it's located in front of Mauritius west coast beach. Mauritius sightseeing was also planned well, with rest day after an activity day. Overall, it was a very good Mauritius experience with Journey Cart's arrangements. Mr. Abhilash Sadhale

Vishal telangre

Journey Cart helped us to make our honeymoon trip to Kerala memorable. Team helped throughout our journey answering all of our queries. Most important aspect of our journey was the driver (and his AC car) who was with us all the time - he was very kind, fluent in English and Hindi and cooperative. Hotels were of extraordinary quality. Meal (dinner and breakfast) quality was also good. I really would recommend Journey Cart to anyone who is planning to make their holidays memorable with their beloved ones. Mr. Vishal Mohan Telangre

Bulgaria FAQ's

Bulgaria is known for its rich history , which stretches back over 6,000 years and is on display everywhere you look, ranging from sacred religious buildings with beautiful architectural styles and colorful art to the hundreds of fortresses and historic ruins , from which some famous legends and myths were born. Bulgaria is one of the most popular beach destination s in Europe, with hundreds of miles of glittering coastline . It`s also known for its winter sporting opportunities in some of the most glamorous and affordable ski resorts east of Switzerland.

The best places to visit in Bulgaria include Sofia , the country`s capital and one of the oldest capital cities in Europe; Plovdiv , the second-largest city and another famed historic town; Veliko Tarnovo , former home of the Bulgarian Kings; and the coastal cities of Varna and Burgas . Bulgaria`s Black Sea Coast resort towns, such as Golden Sands , Sunny Beach , and Nessebar , are among the most popular in southeastern Europe. If you`re visiting during the winter, enjoy a ski getaway in one of Bulgaria`s charming mountain towns .

The best times to visit interior Bulgaria are during the shoulder seasons , which are divided up into two parts: April through May and September through October . Temperatures are nice but not too hot and crowds are more manageable since Bulgarians and other Europeans are not on their summer holidays at these times. However, crowds will definitely be around on the Black Sea Coast when it`s the best time to visit there: the summer high season . All amenities are officially open for the season in this region by the first of June and will be open through the first week of September . We recommend visiting the coast during the high season in order to enjoy all that the resorts and towns have to offer.

We recommend approximately 7-10 days based on what you want to see and do. We offer flexible vacation packages so you can select your number of nights in each city, desired hotel and activities. We suggest a minimum of 3 nights in Sofia and the Black Sea Coast.

We recommend seeing Bulgaria any one of three different ways: by car, by private transfer, or by train . We offer point-to-point private transfers for many locations in Bulgaria. While renting your own car is an option you can take, especially if you want to see the countryside or make side trips (like to Rila Monastery), it may be more practical to take a private transfer if you want to see specific cities; bilingual signage is not guaranteed in more remote parts of the country, making it difficult to navigate the roads here yourself. Vacation packages where you drive your own vehicle are labeled as ` (self-drive) ` on our website. If you want to see Bulgaria by train, buy a package labeled ` (with Rail Pass) `. When you buy a rail pass with Bulgarian State Railways, you take your rail pass to any train station in the country and show it to receive your first-class train ticket to where you wish to go. Keep in mind that train tickets in Bulgaria are issued entirely in the Cyrillic alphabet ; if you have any questions about your ticket, ask the salesperson at the counter before boarding your train .

The currency of Bulgaria is the lev, divided into 100 stotinki. U.S. dollars are not accepted. Have the correct currency on hand or be prepared to exchange your dollars for leva upon arrival. Currency exchange desks are available at the airport, most high-end hotels and resorts, and many other places around the country.

Approximately 1 in 4 Bulgarians speak English on a conversational level or better. Bulgarian is the official language, and unlike Romania and many of its neighbors, Bulgarian is written in the Cyrillic alphabet. You will find English speakers in Sofia, Plovdiv, other major cities, and nearly all areas frequented by tourists, and in these places signs and menus will most likely have English translations written in the Latin alphabet. The further you explore the country, however, the chances run higher that you may not find someone to converse with you in English. Be prepared to learn basic Bulgarian phrases like hello/goodbye, please/thank you, how much is it?, where is the bathroom?, and the numbers from 1-10. To say `Does anyone speak English?`, say ` Nyakoi govori li angliiski? `

Bulgaria Tourism

Bulgaria, one of the oldest countries in Europe, is known world-wide for many things: growing the world’s most fragrant, beautiful roses, maintaining a rich culture of art and theatre, making some of the most delicious yogurt in the world and giving the world some of the best talent across performing arts, literature and science. As a tourist destination, Bulgaria is growing in popularity every year and now is one of the best times to visit, before it becomes a full-fledged tourist hotspot. To learn more about Bulgaria tourism, you’re in the right place – just keep reading!

Bulgaria Geography

Bulgaria is located on Europe’s eastern Balkan peninsula, bordered by Romania to the north, Macedonia and Serbia to the west and Greece and Turkey to the south. Some of the best-known geographical landmarks in the country include the Balkan Mountains, the Danubian Plain, the Thracian Plain and the Rhodope Mountains.

Bulgaria Climate

As a result of Bulgaria’s position near the Mediterranean and its large, looming mountains, the country has an interesting and ever-changing climate. Summer in Bulgaria lasts from June to August – these months are peak season for Bulgaria tourism. Winter in Bulgaria runs from December to February. The shoulder seasons of Spring and Autumn run from March to May and September to November, respectively. Generally, the weather is pleasant, but it can be unpredictable at times.

Geography and environment.

Sitting almost at the crossroads between   Europe   and   Asia , Bulgaria entertains visitors with a little bit of everything when it comes to landscape.

Dramatic rivers and gorges, dense wooded areas, the lofty peaks of the Balkan Mountains and some of the most beautiful Black Sea coastline the region has to offer.

Best time to visit Bulgaria

Bulgaria follows the classic seasonal pattern that belongs to this corner of Europe.

Expect chilly conditions in winter and a delightfully warm (and very busy) summer.

As with many of its neighbours, spring is a fantastic time to really explore Bulgaria, as the going is relatively easy throughout the whole country.

Top 5 famous Bulgarians

1. vasil levski.

A revolutionary who would be remembered as the Apostle of Liberty, Levski became a national hero after leading the battle for liberation from Ottoman rule in the early 1870s.

2. Georgi Ivanov

The first Bulgarian cosmonaut in 1979, Ivanov was awarded the title 'Hero of the Soviet Union'. However, he had to change his original surname, Kakalov, because it occasionally had negative connotations in Russian.

A famous Bulgarian pop/funk band from the late 70s and early 80s. As with most acts who were prominent during this era, FSB appear to have always worn their pants far too tight, but their songs did become the iconic sounds of a generation.

4. Peyo Yavorov

This romantic poet and revolutionary was viewed by many as the finest poet in Bulgarian history. The majority of his works were about his two great loves: the first of whom died from tuberculosis, the second, took her own life, which ultimately drove Yavorov to do the same.

5. Stanislav Ianevski

Ianevski was catapulted into the international spotlight after playing Viktor Krum in the 2005 instalment of the Harry Potter series, The Goblet of Fire. While he does little talking in the film, Ianevski does some impressive broom-flying and walking around looking gruff.

Bulgaria Tours & Travel Guide

Bulgaria Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Filled with historical ruins, rugged mountains, ancient cities, and a unique cuisine, Bulgaria is a country on the brink of stardom. From the stunning hiking trails of the Rila Mountains to the medieval fortress in Veliko Tarnovo to the bustling bistros of Sofia, Bulgaria will dazzle all of your senses and keep you coming back for more.

Why Visit Bulgaria on a Tour

One of the main reasons you should visit Bulgaria on the tour is the language barrier. Bulgarian can be a challenging language to understand and read. Additionally, only about 25% of Bulgarians speak English. Learning some key phrases and words in Bulgarian can help, but having those expert guides who can help you navigate the restaurants and shops will be invaluable.

Surprisingly to many, Bulgaria has a very long and diverse past. Bulgaria is actually home to one of the most prosperous ancient civilizations in the world, the Thracians. Their history, along with thousands of years of occupation, has given Bulgaria a detailed and extensive past.

Learning all of this or trying to see the best spots on your own is daunting, but tours to Bulgaria offer you the chance to see the main attractions and delve deeper into Bulgaria’s past.

Bulgarian Culture

Bulgarian culture is a result of a combination of a variety of civilizations and cultures. With influences from Greece, Thrace, Rome, the Ottoman Empire, the Slavic people, and Russia, Bulgaria’s way of life is distinct in the Balkans.

Bulgaria has played an important role in the world since the country’s beginnings. The country is home to large amounts of Thracian gold treasures, was a major political and economic power during the Middle Ages, where the Cyrillic alphabet was created, and has made multiple contributions to the arts and music.

Another claim to fame is that Bulgaria is considered The Rose Capital of the world. The Rose Valley in Bulgaria produces over 80% of the world’s rose oil which is used in soap, perfume, and as a stress reliever. You’ll find countless rose bushes and vines in every part of the country, especially during the spring when the flowers begin to bloom.

Common Bulgaria Tour Routes

There are three common tour routes of Bulgaria: Bulgaria-only tours, Bulgaria outdoor tours, and tours when Bulgaria is included with other Eastern European or Balkan countries.

For guided tours of Bulgaria , you’ll often begin and end your journey in Sofia. You’re route typically will follow a counterclockwise path taking you through Rila Monastery on your way to Plovdiv, Varna on the coast, northern city of Veliko Tarnovo, and back towards Sofia. These tours hit all of the major sites and sounds that make up Bulgaria’s unique culture.

An adventure tour of Bulgaria usually takes place in the mountains of western Bulgaria or in the Balkan Mountains. Hiking tours or snowshoeing tours of the Rila Mountains outside of Sofia are a common destination for these adventurous and picturesque routes.

With Bulgaria’s central location in Southeastern Europe, Bulgaria is often included in tours of other countries in the area such as Romania, Turkey, Greece, Hungary, and Serbia. These tours last a couple of weeks and don’t spend as much time in Bulgaria as the above tours, but are an opportunity to see more of this region of the world.

Cities in Bulgaria

While countries like India or Poland have what they call “The Golden Triangle” of cities to visit, Bulgaria has more of a “Golden Diamond.” Bulgaria has four main cities that are included on guided tours of Bulgaria for their rich past and importance to the growth of Bulgaria.

The capital of Bulgaria, Sofia has something to offer everyone. With medieval Byzantine churches, funky cafes, retro Communist buildings, and public parks around every corner, Sofia is a bustling blend of each era of Bulgaria’s past.

2. Plovdiv

One of the oldest cities in the world, Plovdiv is a hotbed of ancient civilizations. Considered the cultural capital of Bulgaria, Plovdiv is spread out across seven hills and is the home of some of the country’s oldest ancient ruins.

Bulgaria’s Black Sea mainstay, Varna is a summer oasis in Southeastern Europe. Locals and travelers visit during the warm months to take in the beautiful weather of the sea, relax on the beaches, and stroll down the romantic seaside promenade.

4. Veliko Tarnovo

Bulgaria’s medieval center, Veliko Tarnovo was the ruling seat for the Second Bulgarian Empire. Nestled atop the bluffs above the Yantra River, the city harkens back to Bulgaria’s power and prestige during medieval times and is a great base for day trips into the surrounding villages.

Bulgarian Cuisine

Not unlike the rest of Bulgarian culture, Bulgarian cuisine is the culmination of many cultures and peoples. You’ll find traditional Bulgarian dishes, but also influences and cooking styles from Turkey, Greece, and other Balkan countries.

Traditional meals typically begin with a shopska, or salad, and the main course is based around a stew featuring a main meat and a variety of vegetables.

Grilled meat, especially sausage, is a main staple in Bulgarian diet, as is yogurt, stuffed pastries, the cold soup tarator, and cheese. Bulgarian dishes are noted for their bold flavors from the paprika, garlic, black pepper, thyme, and rosemary that are commonly used.

Wine is a common drink to have with your dinner, but Bulgaria’s most iconic alcoholic beverage is "rakia". Rakia is a fruit brandy produced in the Balkans and is a staple in Bulgaria. The brandy isn’t for the faint of heart, some rakia can be as potent as 40 - 50% proof!

Nature and Wildlife in Bulgaria

Adventure tours to Bulgaria are growing in numbers. With much of the country dominated by the Balkan Mountains, Bulgaria has become a major hiking and skiing destination. Travelers can hike throughout the Rila Mountains or the Rhodope Mountains in the east or choose a slower, easier vacation by visiting the beaches on the Black Sea Coast.

Bulgaria is also home to numerous national parks and preserves. Some of the country’s stunning natural wonders are the Rila Lakes, the naturally-formed Melnik Pyramids, and Pirin National Park.

If you are out hiking and exploring Bulgaria’s natural wonders you may come across some of the country’s commonly spotted wildlife . Bears, foxes, vultures, and rabbits can be found when hiking in the mountains. On the coast you may find pelicans or dolphins swimming in the sea. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll see a local favorite of Bulgaria in the woods or even in the cities, the adorable hedgehog.

Caving in Bulgaria

Bulgaria has over 2,500 caves with more still being discovered. With such a rugged landscape, caving has become a major activity for travelers visiting Bulgaria.

A few of the most popular caves in Bulgaria are:

1. Devil’s Throat Cave

One of the largest in Bulgaria, Devil’s Throat Cave is the stuff of legends. Considered by many as the inspiration of some of the myths of ancient Greece and Thrace, the cave is a natural phenomena with large caverns and long underground river.

2. Devetashka

Devetashka Cave is a karst cave in northern Bulgaria that has been occupied for thousands of years and is a major faunal and floral sanctuary in Bulgaria. Multiple protected species, such as the European trea frog, call this cave home. The cave’s most famous occupants are the some 30,000 bats that reside in the caverns.

3. Snezhanka

Located in the Rhodope Mountains, Snezhanka Cave (“Snow White”) is small compared to others, but what the cave lacks in size it makes up for in wonder. Snezhanka Cave is home to beautiful and stunning stalactites and stalagmites formations. The Wonderful Hall in the cave even has a naturally created formation that resembles Snow White, which is how the cave came by the name.

4. Ledenika

Bulgaria’s ice cave, Ledenika Cave is located in the Balkan Mountains and has been open to the public since 1961. Ledenika is considered the ice cave of Bulgaria because of colder temperatures that create ice stalactite and stalagmite formations instead of the salt creations in the other caves.

Bulgaria - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Balchik, a town and seaside resort situated on a small bay on the Black sea

A trip to this Balkan nation offers attractions as diverse as its geography. With mountains and rivers calling out to the hiker and sunny beaches along the Black Sea luring the sun-bathers to its shores, this country truly offers something for everyone who is looking for an amazing vacation. Bulgaria’s cultural history is as varied as its attractions, with a history that includes the Greek, Ottoman, Slavic, and Persian peoples it is no wonder that a colorful history has produced such a fun-loving culture where the nightlife is as vibrant as any you could ask for along these Black Sea shores.

Tour Highlights

  • Sunny Beach is the place to be, with over 130 restaurants, and 800 hotels boasting of 300,000 rooms, as well as some of the most beautiful beaches, and beach goers, along the Black Sea coast.
  • Visit during the first week of June and take part in the Rose Festival, watch the rose parade, and maybe even meet the Rose Queen herself.
  • Want to see a cathedral that can accommodate 10,000 people at a time? Visit the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia!
  • Smaller in size, but rich in history, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church features frescos that date to the 10th century for your consideration.
  • Take a hike to see the Seven Rila Lakes in the Northwestern Rila Mountains. Visit in July or August for the most favorable weather conditions.
  • For winter fun, try skiing or snowboarding in Bansko, just outside of Sofia. With ski season running from December to March there is plenty of time to schedule a vacation.

Travel Tips

  • For a change of pace, try taking a bike tour of Sofia, it is an active way to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
  • Public transportation is substandard, private busses, or taxis are a safer bet to get you where you need to be, when you need to be there.
  • Trains are available to get you from village to village along the Black Sea coast, but be prepared for delays.
  • Though slow, the trains can be comfortable. For a longer trip, try a sleeper car and travel in true comfort along the coast.

Bulgaria has seasonal weather so please do check up on the best time to visit Bulgaria before planning your tour. And if you’re still hunting for more things to do and places to explore in Bulgaria, do check out our Bulgaria Travel Guide for more information.

Balkans, which is also known as the Balkan peninsula is located in Southeast Europe. It has many countries making it up like Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, Albania, and Bosnia Herzegovina which offers exclusive places to explore for its visitors. If you want to pay a visit to all the profound places in Balkans, then pick the delightful Balkan Tour Package from Swan Tours.

Balkans Tour Packages from India

Balkans is the hidden jewel of Europe, yet to be explored by the Indian traveller. Frequent flight connections, Easier visa formalities (In fact Serbia has a facility of Visa on arrival for Indian travellers) and friendly prices of the hotels and sightseeing excursions are some of the reasons for a sudden interest from the Indian travel and holiday package market .

Cities that once made headings for all the incorrect reasons are now impressing with their variety and authenticity. Landmarks that were all but wiped out in the 1990s-like Mostar's iconic 16th-century stone bridge and Dubrovnik's Old Town walls-have been fastidiously reanimated. Beyond the sights to be seen, however, it's the unabashed hospitality that makes each day spent in the Balkans unexpected. A peaceful lunch by yourself can rapidly morph into dinner by the seaside with enthusiastic residents who will not hear of you not attempting everything on the menu. This is a region overflowing with fresh adventures that are more available than ever before.

Outdoor Tour and Holiday Activities in Balkan

Rocky Mountains and terracotta towns plunge stunningly into the Adriatic Sea along the Croatian and Montenegrin shorelines. Parts of the Balkans have been drawing outside adventurers for centuries; however some pockets are only now being contributed to adrenalin addicts' do-before-you-die lists. Significant landscapes like Albania's and Macedonia's ominous mountain peaks are produced trekking and cycling, and there are wild rivers to raft in Bosnia & Hercegovina, Serbia or Slovenia. For those who would rather simply absorb the outdoors than set out to dominate them, some of the boat trips in the Balkans move you past picturesque surroundings matchless to any worldwide.

The relative cost of adventures implies that the Balkans is a playground for thrill-seekers and outside enthusiasts. This area is as great for strapping on safety gear as it is for simply kicking back and taking in the excellent outdoors.

Bovec, Slovenia Along with neighboring Bled, this is the area's incomparable location for severe sports, offering whatever from canyoning to hydspeeding.

Great-value skiing, Bosnia & Hercegovina Increasingly functional therefore far affordable, attempt Bjelašnica, Jahorina and Vlašić mountains.

Rafting the Tara Canyon, Montenegro Hit the rapids of the Tara River in Europe's deepest canyon.

Shipwreck diving, Croatia A calcified 3rd-century Roman ship is immersed off Croatia's Mljet Island.

Hiking in the Accursed Mountains, Albania Snow-capped peaks and conventional mountain villages in one of Europe's the majority of remote corners.

Historical Tours of Balkan

Though modification is coming on rapidly, timeless traditions and cultural custom-mades aren't falling by the wayside. Blood fights in some parts aren't as ancient as they should be and pastoral scenes are still as home-grown as they ever were. It's a region where you can hardly keep up with the night life, but still get stuck behind a horse and cart. Urban landscapes are a pop-up book of ancient architecture on a grand scale, and winding Ottoman streets are punctuated with Austro-Hungarian vacation homes and the periodic communist concrete block. Include Roman ruins and a Venetian exterior, then cover all of it in a medieval wall and stick it by the sea. History isn't just ancient in the Balkans, it's legendary. This was the battlefield and resting location of the Byzantine, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires; a stroll through town can stimulate the fluctuate of civilizations.

Stunning Sightseeing Tours

Who does not like beautiful views? There are some sights to be seen in the Balkans that rival throughout the world for dropping your jaw, but here you might even have a few of them all to yourself.

Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia Turquoise waters, rich forest, several waterfalls- enough stated.

Lake Koman, Albania A special pocket of the world seen from the ferry through Albania's remote mountainous north.

Lovćen National Park, Montenegro A dizzy drive from Kotor to the Njegoš Mausoleum at the peak of the Black Mountain.

Train from Belgrade to Bar Southeastern Europe's most remarkable train journey through the rolling hills of Serbia and the incredible canyons of Montenegro.

Triglav National Park, Slovenia A three-headed mountain commands a swathe of turquoise river gorges and placid meadows.

Old Towns Tours of Balkans

You will not discover slippery marble stones, cobbled squares, weaving back streets and crumbling walls rather like this anywhere but the Balkans. Time spent lost in an Old Town is time well invested.

Dubrovnik, Croatia Marble-paved streets and glorious ocean views can be admired from Dubrovnik's resplendent city walls.

Kotor, Montenegro Walled Kotor is drastically wedged between the sea and the steeply rising grey mountainside.

Sarajevo, Bosnia & Hercegovina Enjoy a Turkish coffee in the bustling old Turkish quarter of town.

Berat, Albania This meandering town with its Unesco-listed black and white homes is so regularly old that even the hostels are Ottoman-style.

Ohrid, Macedonia Stunning 13th-century church set down on a cliff above one of Europe's deepest and earliest lakes.

Map of Countries in Balkans

Ancient History

Nothing screams the Balkans like a medieval monastery set down on a clifftop or a Venetian palace on the Adriatic coast. Although they guard centuries of history, the life goes on around these ancient sights much as it ever did.

Diocletian's Palace, Croatia Imposing Roman destroys in the beating heart of Split, including 220 ancient structures.

Butrint, Albania Enchanting 2500-years-old ruins in a lush forest on the Ionian coast and a fascinating insight into the layers of mind-blowing Balkans history.

Kalemegdan Citadel, Serbia Destroyed over 40 times, this fortress on the Danube was when squeezed between the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires.

Dečani Monastery, Kosovo Unesco-listed 13th-century monastery with fantastic frescoes, in an extremely lovely area underneath the mountains.

Mehmet Paša Sokolović Bridge, Bosnia & Hercegovina The Unesco-listed work of art that inspired Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić's classic work Bridge on the Drina.

Wining and Dining in Balkans

The spread of cooking and liquid treats available is astounding, from freshly made regional fruit and vegetables inland to specials plucked from the ocean. Wines will also surprise for the low price tag relative to high palatability by any standard.

Istrian delights, Croatia Top eateries provide truffles, wild asparagus and fresh seafood, with rakija (brandy) to start.

Slow food, Macedonia Homespun cooking, from paprika-tinged sausages to foraged mushrooms, is putting Macedonia strongly on the menu.

Vojvodinian salaši (granges), Serbia Combining standard Serbian cuisine with the impacts of neighbouring Hungary, Vojvodina's food is in a league of its own.

Mountain food, Montenegro Njeguši town in Lovćen National Park is famous for its pršut (smoke-dried ham) and Njeguški sir (cheese). Another conventional mountain meal is jagnjetina ispod sača (lamb roasted under hot coals).

Wine tasting, Bosnia & Hercegovina Hercegovina's homegrown wines are a revelation; the Trebinje region produces some of the best.

Whatever your party pace, you'll find it here. This is a region where the sound spectrum spans from grungy metropolitan dens to Balkan turbofolk, and from smooth bar tunes and smoky jazz clubs to beach celebrations.

Belgrade, Serbia one of the night life capitals of the world, Belgrade's eclectic celebration scene is limited only by imagination and hours in the day.

Hvar Town, Croatia it’s unbelievable that Hvar Island hasn't sunk with all the jumping up and down. There are sublime beaches to recover on.

Tirana, Albania the Albanian capital has an especially dynamic scene after dark around its popular Blloku neighbourhood.

Ljubljana, Slovenia For a shabby alternative to stylish clubs, moving towards Metelkova Mesto, an ex-army fort transformed into a free-living commune.

Sarajevo, Bosnia & Hercegovina The line in between Sarajevo's bars and coffee shops can be blurred. Increasing in appeal are coffee shops for smoking cigarettes narghile (hookah) tucked into previous caravanserai courtyards.

Best of Bulgaria Roundtrip

The best thing about our tour was our guide, Emil - helpful, knowledgeable and a very good sense of humour. The itinerary is good and quite varied. Emil also took us to the Tombs of the Thracian Kings which are not on the official tour, presumably because they have been opened to the public fairly recently, and were a highlight of the tour for us. On the not quite so good side, you do spend quite a lot of time travelling from one attraction to another and, apart from the occasional gorge or panorama, the scenery is not riveting. Also, the tour is rated as being suitable for people of up to 85 years - most of the accommodation did not have a lift and two or three of the attractions involve a steeper climb or stairs, which were a problem for one older woman in our group.Overall, if you would like to visit Bulgaria, we think this tour is a good option.

Legends of Emperors and Crusaders , Wines, Traditional Cuisine. Museum Towns and Villages

This was a very good tour. We had an excellent guide and saw many interesting places. Bulgaria is a beautiful country which now has good roads and very attractive towns and villages. There is a lot to see. We stayed in several four star hotels, mostly for one night. For the most part they were good, although one hotel did not have a lift, which was a nuisance and another, where we stayed for two nights, had hardly any guests the first night. The room was good and the staff were friendly, but it provided a very poor breakfast the first morning and really was below par. The receptionist was new and had not been trained to use the software properly. My fellow traveller was put in a room with no chair. The receptionist (who was a pleasure to speak to and was extremely helpful) and him (he was 88) had to manouvre a chair into his room from another bedroom. This really is not what I would expect from a four star hotel. The second night, they had a tour group, so there were more people and it provided a proper breakfast. On balance I was very impressed with this tour and with the tour guide. I would certainly consider using Tour Radar again. They were very prompt to deal with email queries as well.

Amazing discovery, Bulgarian mountains, Rila and Pirin park were just stunning, impressed by the beauty and how clean it is . The last guesthouse was especially nice, to myself it was a gem, people so nice and food home cooked and soo good. Very appreciated and rare find when one is on the road for a month

This tour was amazing. Emiliana connects with you instantly and is super responsive, accommodating and professional throughout the trip - she answered all of our pre trip questions and during the trip was very helpful and made us feel connected throughout the trip as though we had a guide but were on our own! The trip itself is full way to see this beautiful country and allows a few add ons if desired or subtraction as well. This is full independent trip. Driving in Bulgaria was easier than expected and the overall logistics of this trip are very well thought out and comfortable timing and relaxation time. Bulgaria is a jewel of a country and it shouldn't be overlooked as a great destination to explore the layers of history, the fresh foods, the wonderful people and spirit of an Eastern Balkan country. End of May was the perfect time to explore as well. Thank you to Emiliana again!!

From Sofia to Bucharest Tour

From Sofia to Bucharest

4 day trip from Sofia through Bulgaria to Bucharest. Generally very good. First night (plus 2 add-ons) was at Novotel in Sofia. Quite a nice hotel though it would have been good if the hotel were within walking distance of the city centre. Taxis pretty cheap though. We were warned in advance we'd be the only 2 English speakers on the tour. The rest were Spanish speaking. Dimeter did a good job of giving us private English summaries of the spiel he gave in Spanish in the bus, but it would have been nice if the tour were for English speakers so we'd get the full benefit of the regular talks. Tour over Bulgarian countryside was interesting, as was Plovdiv. Again the hotel was good modern but quite away from the city centre. From Plovdiv to Veliko Tarnovo was a good drive. The stop at Kazulnuk in the Valley of the Roses was interesting, especially the (mock) Thracian tomb. It would have been good to have stopped at one of the rose-growing farms to see how they worked. The stop at the reconstructed ethnic village of Etara was interesting, and lunch was good. Arbanassi was an interesting historical village. I found the Saturday afternoon Slavic Dance gathering we happened to come across more interesting than the church we visited. The hotel in Veliko was "different" - we were on level minus 4! Right in the middle of town though, and generous-sized rooms, in a retro style.. Border crossing at Rousse was tedious as expected but well- handled by the tour organisers. In Bucharest, the Hotel Mercure City Centre worked well, and was only a short walk to the hotel for our next organised tour, the Intercontinental. The Bucharest city tour was in the afternoon after a busy day travelling so wasn't feeling particularly enthusiastic for this, especially the walking part. Overall the tour was quite good and well-priced. I'd have preferred a smaller English-speaking tour group. Dimeter, the guide, a native of Sofia, was excellent as was the coach driver.
