Going on an adventure? Be smart. Travel safe and have fun!

Welcome to traveldoc™.

TravelDoc™ clinics are easy to access travel vaccination clinics are a subsidiary medical service offered by Regent Street Clinic™.

The Sheffield clinic is led by a team of specialist travel health doctors, who have undergone postgraduate training in the field of travel medicine (at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow), to address the health needs of the increasing numbers of people travelling abroad and to generally promote a positive, healthy and safe travel experience.’ We can help with last-minute travellers and the more ‘complex’ travel health requirements of gap year students or those with other health issues, for example, the pregnant, elderly or diabetic traveller.

We pride ourselves on our patient-centred service, focusing on offering bespoke travel risk assessments aimed at reducing the risk of ill-health whilst abroad.

Please feel free to give us feedback, we welcome patient input which improves the quality of the service we offer. We want people to be well-equipped for their adventures abroad. Be smart, Travel safe, Have fun!

How TravelDoc™ clinics work

We offer a full range of services including all travel vaccinations and antimalarials, including yellow fever vaccine, hepatitis A and B, rabies, Japanese encephalitis, meningitis ACWY, cholera, typhoid, tick-borne encephalitis, tetanus, polio and diphtheria. We also offer free sterile medical kits, advice on reducing the risk of diseases for which there are no vaccinations (such as dengue fever and Zika virus) and treatment of conditions such as travellers’ diarrhoea and altitude sickness. Our clinics are especially popular with last-minute travellers.

When you attend our clinic, we will review your previous vaccination history, medical history, the present state of health, medications and any allergies. Please keep your immunisation documents safe, ideally with your passport, for use during your travels and as a record for the future. We only recommend those vaccines that are considered most important.

The vaccinations you need will depend on a number of factors and are determined by your specific risk assessment – these factors include the country you’re visiting, the activities you will be undertaking, the length of your stay, your accommodation, your previous vaccination history and recent outbreaks in the regions of travel. Our experienced travel doctors will be able to give you specific, up-to-date information on the vaccinations and anti-malarial required for your destination and other measures needed to protect your health whilst abroad.

Please help us to help you

Patients usually self-refer or may have been referred to our clinic by their NHS GP surgeries.

We do not have access to your NHS records and are relying on some knowledge of previous vaccination history where possible. If you do not have this history, it can be requested prior to your appointment with us by requesting this from your NHS surgery.

If you are unable to obtain this information, we will still be able to work out how best to help you by undertaking a formal risk assessment to protect you during your trip abroad.

You will receive a vaccination record booklet after your visit to keep with your travel documents and to share information with your NHS GP.

We appreciate that travel vaccination can be costly, however, we pride ourselves on being very competitive when it comes to getting ‘paid for’ vaccinations. We will only recommend the vaccinations that are appropriate for your specific journey and will be aiming to protect your health in the most suitable manner (vaccinations, insect repellant sprays, malaria prophylaxis, good advice etc).

Our role is to give you the latest relevant information about country-specific risks, recent outbreaks and emerging health-related issues.

We are here to facilitate and help.

So relax. Be smart. Travel save. Have fun!

Travel Health Service

If you’re travelling abroad, we can provide a free travel risk assessment and NHS-provided travel vaccines.

If you’re travelling abroad, one of our nurses can provide you with a free travel risk assessment, including advice on health issues, what vaccinations you need, and safety abroad.

We can also administer any travel vaccines that the NHS provides for free.

We’re currently running a limited service and cannot provide vaccinations that aren’t free on the NHS.

Travel vaccines we can provide

  • polio (given as a combined diphtheria/tetanus/polio jab)
  • hepatitis A

Travel vaccines we can’t provide

The following travel vaccinations aren’t free on the NHS, and we currently do not provide them:

  • hepatitis B
  • Japanese encephalitis
  • tick-borne encephalitis
  • tuberculosis (TB)
  • yellow fever

If your travel health risk assessment identifies that you’re recommended or required to have any of these vaccinations for your trip, your nurse will advise you to seek these at a Travel Health clinic.

If you’re visiting a malarious area

If your travel itinerary indicates you are visiting a malarious area, your nurse will advise you of the precautions recommended.

If this includes taking anti-malarial medications, you’ll need to get these from a pharmacy with a Malaria service. You won’t be issued with a prescription for this.

Sedative prescribing for fear of flying

UHS does not prescribe sedatives for fear of flying. This policy decision has been made by our GP Principles and is adhered to by all prescribers working in the practice. The reasons for this can be found below:

  • Diazepam is a sedative, which means it makes you sleepy and more relaxed. If there is an emergency during the flight it may impair your ability to concentrate, follow instructions and react to the situation. This could have serious safety consequences for you and those around you.
  • Sedative drugs can make you fall asleep, however when you do sleep it is an unnatural non-REM sleep. This means you won’t move around as much as during natural sleep. This can cause you to be at increased risk of developing a blood clot (DVT) in the leg or even the lung. Blood clots are very dangerous and can even prove fatal. This risk is even greater if your flight is greater than four hours.
  • Whilst most people find benzodiazepines like diazepam sedating, a small number have paradoxical agitation and in aggression. They can also cause disinhibition and lead you to behave in a way that you would not normally. This could impact on your safety as well as that of other passengers and could also get you into trouble with the law.
  • According to the prescribing guidelines doctors follow (BNF) Benzodiazepines are contraindicated (not allowed)  in phobia. Your doctor is taking a significant legal risk by prescribing against these guidelines. They are only licensed short term for a crisis in generalised anxiety. If this is the case, you should be getting proper care and support for your mental health and not going on a flight.
  • Diazepam and similar drugs are illegal in a number of countries. They may be confiscated or you may find yourself in trouble with the police.
  • Diazepam stays in your system for quite a while. If your job requires you to submit to random drug testing you may fail this having taken diazepam.

We appreciate that fear of flying is very real and very frightening. A much better approach is to tackle this properly with a Fear of Flying course run by the airlines and we have listed a number of these below.

I walked in without an appointment…

I walked in without an appointment after having a different organisation cancel on me at the last minute. Within half an hour of speaking with the friendly Dr Bobby Ahmed, I was sitting in a café enjoying a coffee realising how painless my first set of vaccines had been. They gave an A1 Professional, warm, informative and convenient service. Customer service was impeccable, I can't recommend them enough. With a price match guarantee why would I not? Compared to the two competitors I'd previously enquired at about my vaccines, these guys left them standing bewildered at their own badly staffed customer service desk. TravelDoc are the benchmark by which that others should be measured.

Rapid appointment, great with the children!

Great service, called first thing and was offered a same day appointment. All the required vaccinations were in stock. Our registered nurse was knowledgeable, friendly and great with the children (12 & 7). The injections themselves were far less painful than those we've had with our GP. My youngest was so nervous, she didn't flinch. Would definitely reccommend. This was our closest clinic, but it turned out to be cheaper than some others I looked at.

Fantastic, Easy Experience

Fantastic, really simple - yet thorough -experience. Viravali administered mine and my Partner’s travel vaccinations and really helped explain in detail the vaccines and their purposes. She was very professional, made us feel at ease and gave us plenty of confidence during our visit. Would highly recommend if you’re after having travel vaccines done - especially in a pinch! She was brilliant! 🙂

Short notice vaccinations at Traveldoc Sheffield

My wife and I visited the Traveldoc at Sheffield today for our vaccines. From contacting them yesterday, to having the treatments; it was 5 star. The staff were professional and put us both at ease. The lady who administered the vaccines was very knowledgeable and friendly. Would recommend this company for all your vaccinations. Tried Boots and Superdrug before this company, and what a waste of time. Will use this company in future, and they are cheaper than Boots and Superdrug for the same vaccines!!!! Great service!!!!!!!!!

Excellent service at Sheffield Travel Doc

Yesterday, we called into the Sheffield Travel Doc office, without an appointment, and received a warm welcome. Samantha, the very polite receptionist, answered all our queries and we were able to complete forms there and then, and amazingly, able to have a full consultation with Francesca that afternoon. We had already obtained our vaccination record from our GP Practice, which helped to clarify which vaccines were required. We are travelling to several countries in the next few months and Francesca gave a full, clear explanation of all the vaccines open to us. We were able to find out all the necessary information to consider, and she addressed any concerns we had. We were not under any time constraints or under any pressure. After careful consideration, we had several vaccinations and will return next week for a further dose. We were highly satisfied with the service and recommend Travel Doc Sheffield to anyone needing vaccinations for future travel. Thank you, Francesca and Samantha.
