However, as you gain experience, you can get higher pay.

Operations Manager

As an operations manager, you will be in charge of the functioning of a particular organization. Since this is a job profile that requires a higher level of education, the individuals get paid handsomely in the range of 15000-25000 for entry level. However, with experience, you can expect a salary significantly higher than this. 

Airline Reservation Agents

These are the people who help customers in their airline ticket planning and will have to provide excellent customer service for the airline company’s customers. For an entry-level agent, the salary is usually between 12000-20000 per month. Similar to any job, these can increase with experience.

Front Office Manager

Even though there are several levels, of course, you can study after 10th, 12th, and even after graduation, each degree of the course has its own perks and job positions. The job positions and pay grade for the 3 levels such as a diploma, graduate degree, and postgraduate degree courses are as follows - 

Diploma and Certificate Courses

A diploma in travel and tourism can be pursued after 12th, or even after graduation. Being a short term course, you will learn the required topics up to the point. Diploma courses can open you up to several job prospects such as tour manager, ticketing agent, travel agent, foreign exchange officer, etc. The salary after diploma in travel and tourism normally has a wide range between 7k to 15k rupees per month for entry level individuals. Further experience is bound to increase this value. 

Bachelor Degree

A bachelor degree in any of the travel and tourism domains can open you up to further positions. Since these are generally around 3 years, you will gain in-depth knowledge of the field, making you eligible for the job. Usually, a job after you have a BBA or similar bachelor degree can get you around 10-18k per month at entry level. 

Master Degree

Basically, travel agencies work as a mediator or an agent between the customer and the company selling the services. A few career positions that are available at these include travel agent, travel consultants, travel insurance consultant, sales reservation agents, etc. 
• Tourism Department : The tourism department refers to the government organization that focuses on travel planning, reservations. Apart from these, they are also in charge of administering the rules, regulations, as well as other policies revolving around tourism in the country. Present both at the state and national level, the position in these include tour guides, public relations manager, etc.
• Hotels : These are establishments that provide shelter, food as well as other recreational services to tourists. 1. Jobs in Hotels –

You can join 4 stars or 5-star hotels in India but the position of your job will depend upon your skills and knowledge. The starting salary for a fresher will be INR 18-20k per month and your salary will increase with your experience in the industry.

2. Jobs in Cruise ships/ Cruise liners –

The next option you have is that you can join the cruise ships. Cruise ships are in very high demand these days so you easily apply and join. Indian Tourism Industry to Generate $24 Billion in 2024 – India Report

Travel and tourism industry accounted for around 6% of India's GDP in 2022. The country has therefore been focusing on boosting tourism.

The travel and tourism industry in India is projected to generate revenue of nearly $24 billion in 2024, according to industry promotions body India Brand Equity Foundation. At an estimated annual growth rate of 9.6% between 2024 and 2028, the industry is also expected to reach a market volume of $34.25 billion by 2028. 

Revenue trend in India: In 2023, the tourism industry recorded a revenue of about $20 billion, according to Statista . Hotels accounted for the largest share of revenue last year. This year, however, this is expected to shift and package holidays are likely to be the biggest revenue generator in 2024. According to an ANI report , package holidays market is expected to reach 65 million travelers by 2028. 

India’s efforts to boost tourism: The country has been focusing on boosting tourism, and has announced 100% foreign direct investment in tourism-related ventures in order to facilitate growth of the sector. Efforts are also being made to preserve heritage sites in India while creating quality tourism infrastructure to enhance visitor experience. 

The road, rail, and air transportation infrastructure is also being improved. New highways, indigenous superfast trains , and regional airports are being concurrently developed across the country to make travel more convenient and inland destinations more accessible.

Radisson Opens First Hotel in Odisha

Radisson Hotel Group has announced the opening of Pramod Lands End Resort, a member of Radisson Individuals in Gopalpur, Odisha. The 100-room resort marks the group’s entry into Odisha. Radisson’s newly appointed area senior vice president for South Asia Nikhil Sharma said that Gopalpur has untapped tourism potential, and the company’s move to open a property in the location is part of its focus on tier 2 and 3 cities in India. 

Radisson has more than 160 operational and developing hotels, with over 50% of its portfolio located in tier 2 and 3 markets. In 2023, the company signed 21 properties , and is especially focusing on key spiritual destinations and inland locations to gain from the first-mover advantage. 

Fly91 Expands Network to Agatti, Jalgaon

India’s newest airline Fly91 is set to add two more destinations to its network this week, taking its operations to six destinations. Starting Thursday, the airline will fly between Goa and Agatti, Lakshadweep. It will also commence flights between Goa, Jalgaon and Hyderabad on April 18. 

The budget airline commenced its operations last month and is currently flying between four destinations. It aims to enhance regional connectivity in India and has plans to expand its network to 50 cities over the next five years. For this, the airline is planning to induct 30 aircraft to its fleet. 

ITC Hotels Open Storii Solan in Himachal Pradesh

ITC Hotels has announced the opening of Storii by ITC Hotels, The Kaba Retreat, Solan in Himachal Pradesh. The boutique property currently has 22 rooms and suites, with six cottages to open soon. 

Storii by ITC Hotels serves experiential travelers. The company is focusing on expanding the brand as CEO Anil Chadha believes that it is quickly becoming a preferred brand in the segment. With the addition of the Solan property, four hotels are operational under the brand. More Storii hotels are set to come up in Kolkata, Rishikesh, Manali, Prayagraj, and Kufri as it is aiming to enhance its presence in leisure destinations.

Delhi Airport’s Conversion of Terminal T2 to All-International Delayed Till Next Year

The conversion of Delhi airport’s terminal T2 into an all-international terminal is delayed till April 2025, according to a Times of India report . The airport has three terminals of which T1 and T2 are fully domestic, while T3 handles domestic as well as international traffic. With T1 undergoing an expansion to double its capacity to 40 million passengers, the airport operators decided to convert T2 into an all-international terminal temporarily to better handle international traffic.

The initial plan was to begin the conversion of the terminal in July or August this year , after the expansion of domestic terminal T1 becomes operational in June. This would close T2 for a few months. However, the authorities have now decided to postpone the conversion work until after winter, as they want all terminals to be operational during the season. This is to avoid a repeat of winter last year when a key low-visibility runway was shut for repairs during the foggy season and led to delays.

Spree Hospitality, a subsidiary of online travel company EaseMyTrip, has announced the opening of ZiP By Spree Hotels Bella Heights in McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh. The boutique property is a part of Spree Hospitality’s portfolio of more than 30 hotels. 

The company focuses on boutique and mid-market segments, while operating full-service properties across India. It was acquired by EaseMyTrip in 2021.

New Delhi [India], April 15 (ANI): The travel and tourism market in India is set to generate a revenue of USD 23.72 billion in 2024, with a projected annual growth rate (CAGR 2024-2028) of 9.62 per cent, according to projections by the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF).

This growth trajectory is expected to propel the market volume to USD 34.25 billion by 2028.

As per Invest India, India announced 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in tourism-related ventures, including the development of hotels, resorts, and recreational facilities, in a move aimed at fostering growth and development in the tourism sector as of 2023.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been asserting that India’s efforts in the tourism sector are centered on preserving its rich heritage while at the same time creating a world-class infrastructure for tourism.

This announcement comes as the nation charts a course towards bolstering its tourism industry, positioning it as a major contributor to economic growth and job creation.

The tourism landscape in India is diverse, with the package holidays market emerging as the largest segment, projected to reach a market volume of USD 10.48 billion in 2024.

By 2028, the number of users in the package holidays market is expected to soar to 64.74 million, with a user penetration rate increasing from 7.8 per cent in 2024 to 10.0 per cent in 2028.

The average revenue per user (ARPU) in this segment is forecasted to be USD 209.70 by 2028, with online sales expected to contribute 60 per cent of the total revenue in the travel and tourism market in India.

In alignment with global trends, India’s tourism industry is undergoing a transformation, with a focus on promoting sustainable and eco-friendly travel options to attract travelers.

The sector is poised to make significant contributions to the country’s GDP, with projections indicating that it will contribute USD 250 billion by 2030, generating employment for 137 million individuals.

In a recent development on March 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated and launched 52 tourism sector projects worth more than Rs 1400 crores under the Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD Scheme.

These projects encompass various aspects of tourism infrastructure development, including pilgrimage sites, heritage destinations, and recreational facilities, with a focus on enhancing visitor experiences and promoting local communities’ participation in tourism initiatives.

During the event, Prime Minister Modi also unveiled visionary campaigns and schemes aimed at fostering growth in the tourism sector, including the ‘Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice 2024’ and ‘Chalo India Global Diaspora Campaign.’

These initiatives seek to engage citizens and the Indian diaspora in promoting tourism and showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage and diverse attractions.

The revamped Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Scheme underscores the government’s commitment to integrated destination development and community engagement in tourism projects.

With India’s tourism industry poised for exponential growth, driven by factors such as world-class infrastructure development, evolving technology landscape, and rising disposable incomes, the nation is poised to emerge as a leading global tourism destination.
