Holly Brewer a 26 year-old vocalist from Milton Keynes and is the latest talented addition to Rod’s band, she has been settling in over the past few weeks before the band start the next Vegas residency at Caesars Palace next month, SMILER caught up with Holly as rehearsals took place to introduce her to Rod’s fans.

Hi Holly thank you for speaking to us, SMILER members were introduced to you briefly in issue 95 when you backed Rod on ‘Strictly’ and ‘Children In need ‘ but what’s it like to get the job permanently?

It doesn’t feel real! I am completely over the moon and feel beyond grateful. I was lucky enough to provide backing vocals for Sir Rod’s new album which was a dream, so to experience performing live with him around the world will be incredible!

How have rehearsals been going?

Rehearsals have been going really well thank you! I had been rehearsing by myself whenever and wherever I could for about 2 months so to see it come to life with the band made me even more excited!

Rods band are a special group of people , what were your first impressions of them?

They are SO special! Everyone couldn’t have been more welcoming and I feel very lucky to be able to take advice from his band who have worked with him for so many years and know him and his music so well. I have to mention Becca and Amanda have been so unbelievably supportive and helpful and I couldn’t wish to perform backing vocals with lovelier girls!

What kind of music did you listen to growing up in Milton Keynes?

I would say I was always inspired by the female divas and found myself trying to belt like Whitney, Mariah and Celine Dion from a very young age. I definitely couldn’t sing anything like them but I liked to think I could!

Did you listen to any of Rod’s music?

Absolutely! I know Rod’s hits, but also couldn’t believe how many other songs I knew when I started going through his repertoire.

D o you have a favourite song of Rod’s that you will be performing in the set?

I LOVE Baby Jane, Killing Of Georgie and Some Guys.

Had you ever seen Rod live before joining the band?

I haven’t no, so to hear the band live in our first rehearsal together was extremely special! The energy and talent was SO exciting!!

What was the reaction from friends and family when you told them you were joining Rod’s band?

They couldn’t believe it! The support from my friends and family melts my heart, I feel so lucky!

You said you have been working on the new album with Rod do you have a favourite track?

I have a couple of favourite tracks! We had the most fun recording and I think you can definitely hear that on the album. You will have to wait and see…

You guys seemed to be having a fun day filming the new video ..Did you enjoy that shoot?

The shoot was amazing!!! It was so surreal being in poignant places in London with Sir Rod and seeing the publics reaction. I can’t wait to see the video!

You are a very talented artist joining an already super talented band, we have heard you are an accomplished pianist?

Aww thank you so much! I haven’t played piano in quite a while and wouldn’t say I’m amazing but can play well enough to accompany myself. I used to perform a lot of solo gigs so would accompany myself then.

So will you be hoping Kevin let you play some keyboards?

Absolutely not! Hahaha I think I will definitely leave the expert that is Kevin to play the keyboard.

You also toured with John Newman. He is fantastic, in fact a perfect singer for Rod to do a duet with!..What was that tour like?

The tour was amazing and SO much fun! John is such a talented artist and I love the band and music.

Rod Stewart, back to tour the US, talks greatest hits, Jeff Beck and Ukrainian refugees

The year was 1978, and a musical monster named Disco roamed the land. Rod Stewart had helped pioneer blues rock but decided this beast needed placating.

To this day, 45 years later, “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy” remains , along with the lilting “Maggie May,” one of the singer’s signature tunes. You’re sure to hear both when catching Stewart on his expansive U.S. tour, which starts Saturday in Sparks, Nevada, traverses North America and ends with a six-date Las Vegas residency in November.

Does he have any regrets about going disco?

“It’s called jumping on the bandwagon, mate,” Stewart, 78, says with a laugh.

“It’s like my friend Jeff Beck said after he did ‘Hi Ho Silver Lining,’ it’s like a pink lavatory seat hanging around your neck forever,” he says. “Same for me. I didn’t know if I was ashamed of it because the critics hated it. But the public loved it. And that’s what counts.”

Stewart exudes energy in a recent video conversation from his estate in England, prior to a series of British dates preceding his Stateside run.

In a wide-ranging conversation, he tackles topics such as his late bandmate Beck, selling his music catalog and housing Ukrainian refugees.

And then there’s the matter of this reportedly being his last greatest hits tour ever.

“I’m not saying I won’t sing ‘Maggie May’ ever again, but it’ll be the end of the tours that I’ve been doing for a million years,” he says, adding that he is most keen to work on a new swing music album with band leader Jools Holland.

Recently, Stewart posted a clarifying letter to fans on Instagram. “I shall never retire! I was put on this earth to be a singer,” he wrote. “I could never turn my back on the songs that I’ve written and sung over the past six decades. They are like my children.”

Stewart on the hunt for the best home for his back catalog, deals that have netted some rockers millions

Those songs make up a catalog of hits with few rivals. Not just the radio smashes such as “Hot Legs,” but wildly successful covers of great American songbook standards.

Stewart says he’s personally working on finding a home for that collection, a legacy-securing move that recently earned around $500 million for Bruce Springsteen and around as much for Bob Dylan.

“The dollar amount matters but I would be OK with less if I knew it was all being handled right,” he says. “It’s taking a while, and I’m not getting any younger.”

Stewart remains saddened by the loss of Beck, who died at age 78 in January after contracting bacterial meningitis. Stewart’s signature rasp broke out as a staple of The Jeff Beck Group.

“(Rolling Stone's) Ronnie (Wood) and I were talking about him during the recent tribute concert in London, and I told the audience, Ronnie and I might not have been known if it wasn’t for Jeff taking us to the United States and showing us the ropes,” he says. “We owe him a lot.”

Stewart famously had a contentious relationship with Beck later in life, with reunion plans always a subject of heated debate. But the mutual respect remains apparent.

“Me and Woodie weren’t that close to him, he had his demons and could be a bit distant,” he says. “But the love was there. He loved me for my voice, and I love him for his guitar playing. He listened when I sang and reacted. Most guitar players don’t listen.”

Stewart is selling his $70 million Los Angeles home, but he doesn't hate LA

While those old times are never far from his mind, Stewart is also resolutely and excitedly focused on the future. He and his third wife, Penny Lancaster, who he married in 2007, have two children and spend so much time in England now that Stewart has put his Los Angeles mansion on the market for $70 million.

But, Angelenos take note, he does not hate LA.

“Someone said I was selling because I thought LA was toxic, and I never said, that,” he says. “I love LA, and if I don’t get the price I want, I won’t sell it.”

One item that he has moved out of his California home to England is a massive model railroad, some 50 feet by 35 feet complete with a post-war scale model city built in large part by Stewart himself.

“Took me two years to move it, but I work on it every day,” he says. “I wake up, do my emails, work out, then by 10 a.m. I’m in there working on it until I’m needed in the house. A model railroad is never complete.”

Speaking of working out, the famously soccer-crazy Stewart doesn’t hit the pitch as much these days after knee and ankle surgeries, but he still supports the Glasgow, Scotland, squad Celtic, in tribute to his passion for deep Scottish roots on his father’s side.

“I’m so proud of being Scottish,” he says, which explains his latest venture: Joining a group of friends in distributing a new blend of Scottish whiskey he’s called Wolfie’s.

The business venture echoes those of other celebrities, such as Sammy Hagar (tequila and rum) and George Clooney (tequila). “I wasn’t a whiskey drinker before, but this has me very excited,” he says.

Upset by the war in Ukraine, the World War II history buff decided to house refugees

Stewart has found another passion. Helping Ukrainians displaced by the war. In addition to sending his nephews with trucks full of staples to the country’s border, he recently rented out a home in England to house a refugee family, some of whom now work on his grounds. Why?

“Because I remember World War II, and if those pictures of Ukrainian refugees had been in black and white you’d have thought it was 1939,” he says.

That’s why in addition to “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy,” Stewart has added a new staple to his sets, the song “Rhythm of My Heart.” He comes out dressed in Ukrainian colors and puts up photos of refugees and Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“I give him a big salute,” he says. “I hope to make people aware that if Master Putin gets his way, it’s the end of the world as we know it.”

It's a world Stewart has spent more than a half-century filling with song. Like his pals in the Stones, The Who and The Beatles, he is likely to carry on until the final whistle. He said as much in that Instagram post: "I will keep doing this for as long as the good Lord lets me."

A Commander of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Rod Stewart (full name Roderick David Stewart) is one of the most iconic singer, songwriter and rock and roll artist of our time.

Born in Highgate, North London, England on 10 January 1945 and the youngest of five children, Stewart considered a career as a footballer before ultimately pursuing a career in music. In 1962 Stewart began spending time with Wizz Jones, a folk singer, and together they started to perform around England, Paris and even Barcelona, finding places to sleep under bridges. The following year Stewart picked up his signature Mod look, including his famous spiky rooster hairstyle. It was also the same year he became fascinated by R&B and soul music. He also joined his first paying musician job as a harmonica player and part-time vocalist with the R&B group, Dimensions.

Early in 1964 Long John Baldry discovered Stewart and invited him to play with his group the All Stars (renamed The Hoochie Coochie Men). As he started to gain more confidence as a performer on stage, Stewart would be billed as Rod the Mod. Later that same year he was scouted by Decca Records and signed his first solo contract resulting in his first single “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl.” In July 1965 Stewart became part of the group Steampacket and supported The Rolling Stones.

By early 1966 Stewart departed Steampacket and found his way into the Jeff Beck Group as a vocalist and occasional songwriter and continued to tour with them around Europe and hit the United States in June 1968. By August the group released their first album “Truth,” but despite it’s widespread success the band fell apart and by October 1968 Stewart signed a solo contract with Mercury Records by his 1971 released the album “Every Picture Tells a Story” that really started to get his career on an upward spiral. With another album under his belt, by 1975 Stewart made the move to Los Angeles, California and released “Atlantic Crossing.” He reached the pivotal point in his career three years later with the release of the iconic “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” single, despite all of the criticisms about the lyrics.

As the times changed so did Stewart’s style; taking on a more new wave direction in the 80s. Unfortunately this resulted in mixed reviews of the albums that he released during this time. However things went back to stable with his 1988 release of “Out of Order” which had such hits as “Forever Young,” “Crazy About You,” and “My Heart Can’t Tell You No.” His following albums charted just as high and by 1994 he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The 90s saw him signing with Clive Davis’ new label J Records.

The 2000s was full of continued success. He concentrated on working on some of the best pop songs from the 1930s and 1940s called “The Great American Songbook,” and a second “As Time Goes By: the Great American Songbook,” going up to four of these albums. Unfortunately in May 2000 he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, resulting in him going into surgery and having to “relearn” how to sing. To this day he continues his strong career and has released a tell all with his autobiography “Rod: The Autobiography.”

Live reviews

Monday 27th February. The O2. Rod Stewart. First time for me to see Rod at this rescheduled gig from last November. It’s not a shock that the majority of the audience are middle aged women and I am indeed with one myself who has proclaimed Rod as her first love.

We are sitting at The Deck, an area in the O2 with bar stools on level one with waitress service. Very civilised and good views too.

After a twenty minute set from the UK Mariachis who didn’t overstay their welcome we sit back waiting for Rod.

What follows is two hours of Rod classics, covers and American standards all wrapped up in a slick production. The stage is bedecked in black and white checkerboard, the band are identically dressed as are the coordinated backing singers and female string section. The lighting and video walls are impressive without being over the top projecting images of Rod throughout the years.

We kick off with Sam Cooke’s ‘Having a Party’ and that’s what the crowd does all night. The band are tight and all are given an opportunity to shine with extended solos to allow for the various costume changes. The set tonight is well paced taking in all eras from Rod’s career with a couple of Faces numbers through to a track off of the new album. The acoustic section was particularly good and was one of the highlights for me especially his version of ‘I’d rather go blind’.

Rod’s voice is still an impressive tool considering his age and he bemoans the mimers and auto tuners in pop music at the moment.

It’s all over too quickly and seems to end abruptly with the band playing ‘Enjoy yourself it’s later than you think’ as the curtain comes down. Well its only 10 o’clock which is hardly late but I suppose the oldies have to get home for their Ovaltine.

I’m glad I’ve now seen this legend who is still going strong. Here’s hoping for the much talked about Faces reunion.

I think it is disgusting the way I was given one days notice of the show being cancelled.

Having booked this in February 2016 we had lots of time to plan a weekend that we have never done before, and was a much needed break and I so wanted to see Rod Stewart. As we are foster carers with 2 children with disabilities and 2 main stream very damaged children, so you can imagine how difficult this was to organise, We also have a dog that needed to go into kennels . Having organised respite carers for the children ,booked hotel, and train and dog kennels and clipper to get to the o2 and paid for these things and one child had already gone into respite care and dog had gone into kennels before we where told that it had been cancelled .

You cannot imagine my disappointment and upset, I have never been able to go before due to commitments to see such an event and was so excited to see Rod Stewart, being our 37th wedding anniversary in October and my birthday in December my Husband organised this this with help from family and KCC Social services.

I do understand people get ill and things get cancelled ,but one days notice is not good enough to be able to cancel hotel, and every thing else, we have lost a lot of money and then to say we can go in February on a Sunday or Monday and to arrange this again is impossible.

This is the second time we have had this with the o2 , the other time was when we booked 6 tickets to see Little mix which was the first disaster , these are the only two times we have booked and never thought this would happen with such a large organisation , our families have been to the 02 many times and have never experienced any of these things .

Whatever you think of Rod Stewart, you can’t reasonably accuse him of lacking a sense of humour. On his last arena tour of the UK, in the summer of 2013, his performance of "Do You Think I’m Sexy" saw an array of old newspaper cuttings about him flash up on the giant screens, with one proclaiming “ROD: I DON’T WANT TO BE SINGING ‘DA YOU THINK I’M SEXY’ WHEN I’M SIXTY.”

Next January, of course, he’ll be seventy, and yet like so many of his contemporaries - his old Faces bandmate and drinking partner Ronnie Wood springs to mind - he’s still going strong. It’s actually astonishing how well his husky style of crooning has held up over the years, especially given the struggles he’s had with his throat in recent years; he’s still touring hard, though, and frankly sounding better than ever. These days, you can expect all the hits - "Maggie May," "You’re In My Heart," "Hot Legs" all present and correct - and, of course, a slew of covers. He’s still up to some of his old stage tricks, too, kicking footballs into the audience, and wearing his heart on his sleeve with an exquisitely-designed Celtic FC drum logo. Rumours of a Faces reunion continue to swirl, if Wood ever does get time off from the Stones; if so, Rod should be game - he’s a long way from reaching for the pipe and slippers yet.

Rod Stewart, one of the UK's most successful recording artists is now 70 years old. Whilst most british pensioners his age are applying for their free bus pass, he is continuing to perform to fans in arenas all over the globe. Having sold over 100 million records, Rod clearly has no monetary obligation instead he tours for the sheer love of performing and delighting his fans.

Stood in the middle of a huge stadium, the iconic crooner commands the stage and laps up the adoring cries and cheers his appearance evokes and kicks off with a huge rendition of 'Infatuation'. He has had an impossible amount of hits on both the singles and albums chart but Rod chooses his setlist wisely to hopefully please the many thousands gathered. The charismatic and cheeky way in which he conducts himself is also a huge crowd pleaser.

His live band are incredibly skilled and he has a great rapport as they play classics such as 'Maggie May' to rapturous applause. The finale of 'Baby Jane' receives a mass sing-along and gives Rod's raspy vocal a little break as the audience takes over yet he is back at centre stage to perform a tongue in cheek rendition of 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?'. A class act with a great sense of both humour and integrity.

I paid 132 euro each for the best view. BIG MISTAKE.

No seats and the the area was overcrowded. Stewards were useless. Lots of people without Front Stage Passes came into the area which meant we had a very poor view.

Police refused us access to disabled parking even though we showed them the badge so we had to park at the Miramar and get a taxi. When we were drooped off we were next to the disabled parking where there were still spaces available. No doubt being saved for friends of the police.

We could not see the support act as they were not on the stage but performed at the far side of the venue. We could not leave our position or we would have had no view at all for the main show.

The main show was due to start at 10pm but started at 10.25. We were told by Rod Stewart he would play for 2 hours. The show ended at 12.05 !

Our friends who paid 85 euros for seats fared little better being surrounded by noisy drunks who the stewards refused to deal with.

When you promote an artist who is over 70 you should realise his fans are the same age and the facilities were woeful. Standing for over 4 hours is unacceptable.

WOW!!!!! I loved seeing Rod and all of his talented Musicians onstage. This was my first time seeing him live, and I was thrilled. I had a floor seat just in front of the Sound System, center to Stage. It was high energy right from the start. I heard the distant D Drone of the Bagpipes, and knew right away that I was in the right place. It wasn't long before, they were Marching in Full Quilt around Budweiser Gardens. The lights went down...the stage was lit...the curtain went up...and there they were!!! The girls...." LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, MR. ROD STEWART " My heart was beating like a Drum !! The Concert was FANTASTIC.. Rod was FANTASTIC... I loved the backdrop...The movements, the colours, the History, the stories. I was very surprised. SIR Rod Stewart was AWESOME !! I loved the Drum Solo....the Whole Concert !! I am going to try and get tickets for his show coming up in August with Cyndi Lauper!!!

Rod as always was wonderful and the concert was amazing. This is my 100th Rod concert. Concert was great as I said, the venue was rubbish. Got an email telling us where to park, when we got there after a 2 hour drive, this particular car park was off bounds. We had to park 20 mins walk from venue. In my experience there were not many TRUE ROD fans so there was no normal Rod atmosphere, people just standing around and not singing or seaming to enjoy themselves, like you would get from say a London venue. I think Rod felt this as he did not even come out for an encore which he has never done this before. Supporting act with 4 fat Mexicans was a joke, thank God Rods daughter (Sisterhood) followed with a brilliant performance, the atmosphere spoilt this concert for us and after paying over 200 pounds this was a shame. Will be going to see Rod in London for make up for this.

Awesome evening with Rod!

The musicians were outstanding! Rod was impressive and made everyone feel included and entertained.

The show started right on time. There was no lead-in group. I think some folks thought there would be a lead-in act because several people arrived late and missed the first half hour of the show. Also, the show lasted just under 2 hours. There was no break. This was perfect for our group who enjoyed the experience in Calgary.

I had tried to find the following info before the show and didn’t find it anywhere so I am posting it here:

1. No Lead-in Act, if you are late you will miss some of Rod’s act.

2. Show is approx 2 hrs if you are taking a limo, taxi or uber after the show.

Great concert!

This was amazing! A true honour to see Rod in full flight. It was the first night of a 5 month tour and there were a few minor technical glitches but Rod, as the charismatic entertainer he is managed to make a joke about them and and make the audience feel like we were all participating in the show together. He made relatively large stadium feel like a small intimate gig. At 74 I dare say he doesn't have the physical stamina of a Bruce Springsteen but it balances this out by giving plenty of time for solos and individual performances to his incredible band. This was a well crafted show that had the entire audience on their feet dancing by the end. Will definitely see him again if I get the opportunity!

Took my daughter for her birthday absolutely amazing show we danced all night. Well worth the aches this morning. Rod sang all his old ones and a few new ones and really got the crowd singing along.

I would definitely recommend to go see him before he stops touring although I don’t think he will. The only bad point which will have nothing to do with rod himself was that leaving the carpark was horrendous. Not very carefully thought out at all badly organised. It took us an hr and 40 minutes just to get a few yards out of the car park and on to the road. Great night though wouldn’t have missed it for the world.

Rod Stewart Rolls back the years at – Nottingham Arena UK 16/11/22

Wednesday the 16th of November saw the opening night of music Legend Rod Stewart’s new UK tour at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena . The arena was full up to the rafters with fans of Sir Rod, young and old, anxious to see him strut on to the stage. The stage is obscured by a white sheet with an arty picture of Rod Stewart’s face.

The lights dim and the palpable excitement is felt through the arena. The sound of ‘ Scotland The Brave ‘ on the bagpipes ring before they are drowned out by the screams of excitement from the crowd. With the crowd still anticipating Rod’s walk on, the distinct drum beat into to ‘ Addicted to Love ’ starts the play. As the curtains rise we see four ladies dressed reminiscent of Robert Palmers ’ original video, then bright lights and on walks the man himself! Dressed in every bit as you would expect, white large collared shirt under a shiny black Suit. What an entrance!

Rod Stewart tells the audience ‘I love you, I love you, I love you’ before taking us back to 1972 with ‘ You wear it well ’ . The stage has a huge screen at the far back with screens either side of the stage and a half ring of screens above. Multiple cameras are filming the show, projecting the stage onto the multiple screens. Rod Stewart is getting into his stride, clearly having fun dancing around the stage with the audience dancing along with him.

Continuing the upbeat tempo, with ‘ Ooh la la ’, ‘ Some Guys have all the luck ’ and the duet ‘ It takes two ’ we see the introduction of the talented men and women musicians who join Rod Stewart throughout the concert. The already visually exciting stage production is coming into its own with ‘ Some guys have all the luck ’ with graphics of Las Vegas and Rod Stewart’s name in big Vegas lights. Perhaps a nod to his stint at Caesars Palace earlier this year.

Speaking to the crowd, Rod Stewart officially launches the first night of his U.K tour and tells a funny anecdote regarding ‘ It Takes Two ’ – He recorded the song with Tina Turner back in 1990 for a Pepsi advert, only to be spotted with a Coke the following day, whoops! Rod recreates the duet with backing singer, Becca Kotte, both belting out the hit with ease.

Rod then tells us the next song is from his 2021 album Tears for Hercules , and was met with a small applause, which left Rod laughing, ‘I thought it sold F-ing better than that!’. ‘ One more Time ’ , a definite favourite of mine from Tears for Hercules , did not disappoint live and I was fully committed to singing the entire song along with him. An energetic performance from Rod and the girls, with a special mention for those on the fiddle and banjo, such a talent. The Celtic folk undertones of the song along with the catchy chorus make it an impossible song to not tap your feet to and have stuck in your head for days! The applause afterwards definitely proved to Mr Stewart the album did indeed sell as well as he thought.

Rod leaves the stage and a celebration of Celtic folk music keeps the audience entertained and is an explosion of talent and noise, keeping the party very much alive during an outfit change. Rod comes back onto the stage wearing a Zebra print shirt and begins ‘ Forever Young ’ . The concert slows right down with ‘ The first cut is the deepest ’ and the introduction played on the harp was hauntingly beautiful. The crowd sings along each word of the chorus, the emotion of the song evident with the passion of the audience. At the end of the song, Rod bows to us, a small thank you for such an emotional moment between performer and fans.

Sticking with fan favourites, a provocative performance with the stage screen filled with animal prints, of ‘ do ya think I’m sexy?’ Is followed by the one and only, ‘ Maggie May ’ . And what a tease Rod was! The opening of the song was just Rod Stewart and his gravelly pipes slowing singing, the audience desperate for the fun to begin. And what fun! An eruption into the song, with the lyrics on screen for all to join in. Everything stops for the fiddle and banjo and the iconic musical bridge of Maggie May with the crowd clapping along leaves the arena shaking.

Rod Stewart makes a huge statement during ‘ Rhythm of my Heart ’ . Walking onto stage wearing a blue shirt and a yellow jacket, the colours of the Ukrainian flag. Sobering images of the War in Ukraine are shown on the big screen, surrounded by the colours of the flag. Everybody taking a moment, and it was such a juxtaposition of feelings. Such a high from Rod Stewart’s performance so far and being brought right down to Earth to experience this poignant moment together. He finishes with a bow to an image of Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky , with us all applauding along with support.

The stage is changed up with a row white stools, Rod and his band sit and begin a more acoustic set. ‘ Handbags and Glagrags ’ begins, with Rod’s soulful voice hugging each note. He thanks us all for coming, even with the cost of living crisis, and he shows his absolute gratitude for coming. The crowd coo’s at the Guitar opening to ‘ I don’t want to talk about it ’ and there are 10,000 voices singing in unison. With a song that never fails to give me goosebumps and a lump in my throat, it was hard to not shed a tear listening to each person sing it back. Jimmy on the saxophone adds even more soul to the song making it absolutely perfect.

Something synonymous with Rod Stewart is his love for Celtic Football club. The drum sets emblazoned with the clubs emblem, and ‘ You’re in my Heart ’ was a love song to the club, the screen showing the clubs goals and picture of Rod wearing the kit. Ending the slowed down acoustic set with ‘ Have I told you lately ’ with soft lighting rounding off the romantic mood.

The backing girls kick things back up with ‘ Lady Marmalade’ leading onto Rod’s return to stage with ‘ Hot Legs ’ . A visually exciting performance from the production team and those on stage you can feel the crescendo building towards the end of the show. Rod kicks footballs into the crowd as a marvellous memento for the lucky fans who caught them! Moving seamlessly into ‘ Stay with me ’ and then to ‘ Baby Jane ’ , never missing a beat to keep the audience dancing. The curtains come down to an eruption of applause and the clapping continues as the lights turn blue. The side screens show lapping waves and the sound of the gentle guitar opening begins as the curtains go up for the encore of ‘ Sailing ’ .

Once again the arena is singing along with Rod Stewart, and swaying phone lights twinkle away. A tribute to the late, Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II appears on screen, another joint moment of respect for all there. A fitting ending to a show that was a myriad of emotions, a grand spectacle from the production and the absolute array of musical talent from the supporting band and singers. Rod Stewart did himself and the fans there proud. Seeing the legend live, it is clear to see at 77 he is still on stage why he is just that. A true rock and roll icon. As the lyrics in ‘ Baby Jane ’ say, ‘ I know it’s gunna last forever… ’, and Rod, I hope it does last forever.

Rod Stewart and Boy George give stunning duet of 'The Killing Of Georgie' for opening of joint tour

The two singing legends lit up the stage in Plymouth on Saturday night (June 24).

Rod Stewart and Boy George have given their first performance on tour together and it was exactly what fans had been waiting for.

The duo took to the stage during Rod Stewart 's UK opener of his Global Hits Tour on Saturday night and gave a stunning rendition of 'The Killing Of Georgie'.

Sitting side-by-side on stage and surrounded by a small band, a harpist and some backing singers, Rod introduced the song before forgetting when he wrote it – much to the delight of the laughing crowd.

He then gave the stage to Boy George who regaled the audience with a story of how his mum gave him 'a copy of 'The Killing of Georgie'' in his sock drawer, adding: "I actually thought you'd written it about me!'

The duo then sang the 1976 hit to the 17,000-strong Plymouth crowd, taking it in turns to sing the chorus and verses.

Boy George and Culture Club are Rod Stewart's main support for the star's six summer shows in England and Scotland between June 28 and July 8.

Rod Stewart announced Boy George would be joining him on tour back in late March, and joked that he wanted to 'misbehave' when they were on the road together.

"I’m absolutely thrilled to be sharing the stage with my dear old friend, Boy George. Let’s misbehave!" Rod Stewart said in a statement.

Boy George was equally gushing about Rod when the news was announced, saying: "I’m a massive Rod Stewart fan. I have been since I was a teenager. I love his voice and he’s always been very charming to me."

"In 1974 when I was 13 years old I bunked in for free to see Rod Stewart and The Faces at Lewisham Odeon, so I love that I am now able to support him on tour" he continued.

Fans attending the shows have been promised "show-stopping classics and fan-favourites" spanning Rod’s six-decade career, as well as the reggae-pop stylings of Boy George and company too.

It'll be a homecoming for Sir Rod too, who returns to Edinburgh Castle for the first time in 13 years for two special shows as part of the tour.

Set to rock the Scottish capital on July 6 & 7, the homegrown star expressed how excited to be back on British soil.

Rod Stewart planning emotional tribute to 'wonderful' Tina Turner on imminent tour

Tina, who died aged 83 last month, struck up a friendship with Rod in the early 1980s before they famously duetted on It Takes Two in 1990

Sir Rod Stewart is to pay an emotional tribute to “wonderful” Tina Turner on his tour.

Tina, who died, aged 83, last month, struck up a friendship with Rod in the early 1980s before they famously duetted on It Takes Two in 1990.

Sir Rod, 78, told the Mirror: “I can’t say enough about her. She was a wonderful, wonderful, woman.

“Never swore. Never lost her temper. Always smiling. I am going to put up a picture of her on tour and do a song for her.”

Sir Rod will sing It Takes Two in Tina’s honour, with her part sung by his three female backing singers.

He will also honour Jeff Beck – his old bandmate in The Jeff Beck Group – who died, aged 78, in January.

Sir Rod has previously been credited for helping Tina’s comeback after she was left penniless following her divorce from Ike Turner in 1978.

Sir Rod said: “I think me, Jagger and Bowie all came in at the same time and helped to lift her career to a new level.”

Her solo music career was stuttering until Sir Rod hired her to open his US tour in 1981, as he loved her new rock and blues style.

Her profile also soared after she made her Saturday Night Live debut singing Hot Legs with him. Another major turning point came in 1981, when she was invited to open for the Rolling Stones, while David Bowie was also a huge fan.

Sir Rod is playing Plymouth, Northampton, Durham, Bristol, Hull and Edinburgh from June 24.

The Mirror revealed this week how Sir Rod had produced a new Scotch called Wolfie’s Whisky.

B ritish pop star Sir Rod Stewart was booed at a concert in Germany while making a show of support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, German media reported on Sunday.

The singer paid tribute to Ukraine as he introduced the song “Rhythm of My Heart” at his sold-out concert in Leipzig on Friday, according to the Tag 24 news outlet.

Wearing the colours of the Ukrainian flag, he dedicated the song to the Ukrainian people and army before shouting an insult against Vladimir Putin, the Russian president.

As he performed the song, images of the war, Volodymyr Zelensky , the Ukrainian president, and the country’s flag were shown on the screen behind him.

The audience responded with loud boos and whistles, according to several media reports.

The singer has previously been vocal in his support for Ukraine and reportedly rented a house for Ukrainian refugees in Britain.

According to German media, his support for Ukraine had been well-received at previous concerts in Copenhagen and Amsterdam.

Germany has been a staunch backer of Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

Michael Roth, a foreign policy expert for Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s SPD, on Sunday called Sir Rod the “hero of the day”.

“Thanks for your solidarity with the Ukrainian people!” he wrote on X.

But public opinion remains split on the issue, with some fearing Germany’s backing for Kyiv could risk escalating the war while others resent the amount of money being spent on Ukraine.

German far-left and far-right parties that are opposed to the government’s backing for Ukraine both scored major gains in last week’s EU elections.

Rod Stewart announces six-date UK summer tour at big venues

Sir Rod Stewart has announced a series of summer shows for 2023 as part of his Global Hits Tour, and it promises to be a night of massive hits.

The six-date tour will see Rod Stewart head to Edinburgh, Bristol, Hull, Durham, Northampton and Plymouth.

The legendary singer said: "My favourite memories have been summer nights with a beer or two alongside the best fans in the world.

"I'm impatiently awaiting this summer playing at a variety of special venues - football, cricket and rugby stadiums, estates and castles! We'll all be dancing under the stars."

The 2023 Global Hits shows will feature his most famous songs across his long career, and will be supported by Johnny Mac and the Faithful.

Pre-sale tickets are already available, with general tickets going on sale from Friday, 17 February from here .

George Strait sets a new record for the largest ticketed concert in U.S. history

Country singer George Strait just smashed another record in his chart-topping musical career.

On Saturday, the Texas native played the largest ticketed concert in U.S. history before a crowd of 110,905 fans, according to Billboard .

The performance at Texas A&M’s Kyle Field in College Station beat out the previous record held by the Grateful Dead , which jammed before 107,019 attendees during a 1977 show at Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J.

Though Strait nabbed the record for the largest ticketed musical performance, there have been bigger crowds at some music festivals and free concerts held in the U.S., such as the 1986 performance by the New York Philharmonic in Central Park that drew an estimated 800,000 people .

And according to American Songwriter , perhaps the largest audience for a concert in history goes to the reputed 3.5 million fans who crammed onto Brazil’s Copacabana Beach in 1994 to hear Rod Stewart perform.

Strait is no stranger to setting records. The singer has the most No. 1 singles of any artist in any genre and is the only artist to boast a Top 10 hit every year for three decades, Billboard reported.

According to Strait’s website, the country music star also holds more than 20 attendance records at music venues across the U.S.

Strait, whose new album Cowboys and Dreamers drops in September, will perform in Salt Lake City later this month, followed by concerts in Detroit and Chicago in July.

Trying to find affordable concert tickets to your favorite music artists’ tours has become an impossible balance of skill and luck.

Every time the biggest names in the music industry announce a new tour, the universal fan experience begins with hope and excitement, only to be replaced with shock and despair when faced with outrageous ticket prices.

Of course, that’s only if you’re lucky enough to add to cart and check out in time before tickets sell out within a few hours.

With a finite capacity at every venue, most fans find themselves in the latter situation, turning to ticket resale sites like Vivid Seats , SeatGeek and StubHub , only to be met with climbing prices the closer you get to the stage.

According to The Los Angeles Times , there are five major influences when it comes to ticket prices: the size of the artist, the promoters who organize the shows, the venues that charge to host them, the ticketing companies that add fees and the resellers, where the value is unlimited and agreed upon between sellers and buyers.

The critical discourse around ticket prices reemerges every time an in-demand artist announces a tour. Still, the system in place remains, so what’s a fan to do?

As a music lover on a budget who’s not willing to spend a couple of months’ rent on a single concert ticket, I’ve compiled the top 11 most expensive, in-demand music artists on tour right now according to average ticket prices and found the cheapest tickets available for every artist.

Prices and availability are noted at the time of publishing and are subject to change.

Pop icon Pink’s 2024 “Summer Carnival Tour” began on June 11 in Cardiff, Wales and will include a debut stop in Syracuse, NY on October 6 before concluding on November 23 in Miami, FL. The “So What” singer will be joined by special guests The Script, Gayle, KidCutUp and Sheryl Crow for select dates.

According to Ticketsmarter , the average ticket price for a Pink concert is $598.

However, the cheapest tickets available are much more reasonable, with top deck seating starting at $20 on Vivid Seats , SeatGeek and StubHub .

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) — PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said Wednesday the difficulty in finalizing a deal with the Saudi backers of LIV Golf isn’t a reason for concern.

“With complexity comes opportunity,” he said before the start of the Travelers Championship at the TPC River Highlands. “There are a lot of different factors at play, but nobody who is having the conversation is unaware of the complexity. And everyone, I think, is embracing the fact that there are obstacles and things you’ve got to overcome in a complex situation.

“We have the right people around the table for us,” Monahan said, “and they do as well.”

It’s been more than a year since the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia — the financial backer of the rival LIV circuit — announced plans to form a partnership that would help bring peace to a sport torn apart by the departures of dozens of top players lured away by Saudi riches.

A framework for the deal was announced June 6, 2023, with plans to finalize it by the end of the year.

The deadline passed with no agreement . Monahan said a June 11 meeting in New York, attended by Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, with Rory McIlroy phoning in from the Memorial, was “very productive.” He declined to give specifics.

Monahan said he is on the phone with the PIF multiple times a week, including just about an hour earlier on Wednesday morning. “My outlook for those discussions and discussions continues to be very positive,” he said.

Speaking from the last of the limited field, no-cut signature events on the tour’s calendar this year, Monahan declined to say what has been agreed to and what remains unsettled. The original framework has changed greatly, he acknowledged.

“The framework agreement is still relevant. There are aspects of it that certainly continue to be in play. But we’ve all stepped back, and we started anew,” he said, listing new committees and other opportunities for the players to participate and profit from a future tour. “The vast majority of what we’re talking about, we’re building from the ground up.”

One of the complexities the deal faces is a possible objection from the Justice Department on antitrust grounds . The rival tours would need to show that the deal enhances competition — by bringing all the best golfers to the same tournament, for example — instead of squelching competition by giving golf fans, sponsors and players fewer options.

The sides already bowed to one suggestion from the Justice Department last summer, eliminating an anti-poaching clause in the framework agreement.

Meanwhile, players continued to defect to LIV — including last year’s Masters champion, Jon Rahm.

Only seven players have been involved in the talks. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler said he didn’t know enough about the negotiations to worry about what will happen.

“I haven’t really heard too much, so I don’t know if they’re going great or if they’re going poorly, so your guess is as good as mine I think at this point,” he said. “Definitely no frustration or anything like that for me. It’s out of my control, so I’m not too worried about it.

“They have got a lot of big business decisions to make,” said Scheffler, who is a member of the Player Advisory Council. “But as far as input in the negotiations, I don’t really have much to say at all.”

Tonight on Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge , both our Tory and Labour guests faced questions over a report suggesting neither party are being honest with voters about their tax and spending plans.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies launched its report on their election manifestos this morning, warning public services will have to be cut over the next parliament, unless government debt or taxes rise further.

Labour and the Tories have both ruled out tax rises on working people, but also downplayed the risk of cuts to key public services.

So, are they being honest? Our business correspondent Paul Kelso takes a closer look at the numbers...

Five years ago it was indisputably the Brexit election, but this time round it's become something of an elephant in the room.

But in Northern Ireland, none of the party leaders are shy of talking about the impact of Britain leaving the EU.

Our  senior Ireland correspondent  David Blevins   has spoken to them all about the legacy of the 2016 referendum - and how a new government at Westminster might change things.

As David notes, to "get Brexit done" the Tory government put a trade border in the Irish Sea between Northern Ireland and Great Britain - something that was once unthinkable.

Michelle O'Neill, Sinn Fein:

"I think there's an opportunity now with what potentially looks like a Labour government coming into play to reverse the damage of Brexit. 

"And actually, I would hope we get to the point where actually we reverse the Brexit decision altogether. 

"That may not be where Labour are headed, but I think there is an opportunity to reset relationships, critically between London and Dublin, because those have been very much fractured."

Emma Little-Pengelly, DUP: 

"The Conservative Party and the UK government botched Brexit and Northern Ireland was the victim of that. 

"We called out the Conservative Party on this at every single stage. 

"We had to fight incredibly hard to try to undo the damage made by the decisions made by the Conservative Party in government. 

"But of course it was us fighting for that, while others were agitating and pushing for rigorous implementation of that really bad deal."

Naomi Long, Alliance: 

"What we need to do looking forward is say... how do we make the benefits of the Windsor Framework work in our advantage? 

"We have a unique position in Northern Ireland in terms of trade: we can trade freely into GB, we can trade freely with the Irish Republic, but more than that, we are a foot in the European Union."

Colum Eastwood, SDLP:

"Brexit has been a disaster for the whole of the UK, I would argue, economically and in many other ways, but we felt it much more keenly here because we share a border with the European Union.

"We had to do an awful lot of work to put things back together after the mess that was made by Brexit and Boris Johnson and the DUP. 

"From our perspective, there's no better outcome than actually being back in the European Union lock, stock, and barrel."

Doug Beattie, UUP:

"Brexit was a defining moment. 

"It absolutely undermined the cohesion of the United Kingdom, and I think we can see the out workings of that even today. 

"And whatever government gets in - and we all think it's going to be a Labour government - I think they're going to have to work on that cohesion as one of their main outputs."

Northern Ireland has been front and centre of UK politics since the 2016 EU referendum, proving a critical issue in particular to the ill-fated premierships of Theresa May and Boris Johnson.

But you'd be forgiven for thinking it's not taken quite such a pivotal role this time, likely not helped by the two main parties' reluctance to speak about how Brexit has been going.

In Northern Ireland, there are five main parties contesting 18 seats at Westminster: two unionist, two nationalist and one neutral.

Our senior Ireland correspondent David Blevins has spoken to the country's party leaders about their hopes for the 4 July poll.

The first and deputy first ministers took the opportunity to condemn the Conservative Party for the impact of Brexit.

Sinn Fein's Michelle O'Neill told Sky News the current government had "played fast and loose" with the Good Friday Agreement.

And Emma Little-Pengelly, of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), said Northern Ireland was the victim of the Tories having "botched Brexit".

Election a chance for a 'reset'

Other party leaders were similarly damning of the Tories.

Doug Beattie, the Ulster Unionist (UUP) leader, accused the "chaotic" Tory government of "destroying the cohesion of the United Kingdom".

Colum Eastwood, leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP), accused them of "wrecking the place" for 14 years.

Naomi Long, leader of the neutral Alliance Party, said the election offered the opportunity for a "reset" on relations.

It's now the turn of Gillian Keegan, the education secretary, to respond to the IFS's damning report this morning that suggested that no party manifesto was properly costed ahead of this election.

She says the pandemic and resulting economic fallout continues to ease off under Conservative stewardship and that the costings in their manifesto are accurate. 

"It's not unrealistic to say we're going to put [civil service] staffing levels back down to 2020 [levels], and we're going to put the welfare bill in the same place it was a 2020 - that's not too unrealistic," she says. 

It's those cuts that will allow the Tories to deliver spending cuts, the party's manifesto claims.

Gillian Keegan, the education secretary, has said she is "very confident" that her cabinet colleagues are not those implicated in the election day betting scandal.

But, with the election 10 days away, she admits the "timing is terrible".

She says the country has a "big decision" in front of it, pointing to issues like the NHS and the economy.

Pushed again by Sophy on the gambling issue, she says she hopes the ongoing investigations - both by the Gambling Commission and the Tory party itself - can be "done quite quickly".

"You do need to allow people to have due process," she says, and establish facts before actions follow.

Jonathan Ashworth, the shadow paymaster general, is responding to the IFS's damning report released this morning that suggested that no party manifesto was properly costed ahead of this election.

Mr Ashworth admits the public finances "are shot to pieces", but says Labour "part company from the IFS" on the topic of growth.

"We think we can better," he says.

He says Labour has an industrial, science, skills, welfare reform and energy policy to "stimulate growth".

Mr Ashworth also points to Labour's planning reforms.

"Focusing on all of these big microeconomic issues will actually get growth motoring in our economy, which will transform the position of the public finances," he adds.

Jonathan Ashworth, the shadow paymaster general, has said everyone inside Labour "knew we were going to get hammered" at the 2019 general election.

He was asked by Sophy Ridge about Sir Keir Starmer's past support of Jeremy Corbyn, and his own, and reiterated that neither he nor Sir Keir backed Mr Corbyn as Labour leader.

The frontbencher says: "We all knew we were going to get hammered in those elections, but I wanted to do all I could to get good colleagues re-elected."

Sunak 'has done nothing' about Truss

Mr Ashworth goes on to say that Labour has changed, pointing out that Mr Corbyn is not standing as a Labour candidate in the general election.

"Liz Truss is a candidate" for the Conservatives, he says: "Rishi Sunak has done nothing about her."

He also accuses Mr Sunak of doing "nothing" about his party's election date betting scandal.

We're now just 10 days away from the election.

The election campaign is in overdrive - debates, interviews, campaign stops - and if you live in a constituency with a Conservative majority of less than about 20,000, I salute you.

Your letterbox is probably hanging off the door at this point after all the leaflets that have been stuffed through it.

In the latter stages of the campaign, it does really feel like the Conservatives are running out of time now to grab control of their messaging. 

Lynton Crosby has almost become a hallowed name in Conservative circles – he's the plain-talking Australian election strategist who ran successful campaigns for Boris Johnson and David Cameron.

And he had a well known saying, that to run a successful campaign you need to get the barnacles off the boat. 

In other words, don't be distracted by peripheral things – just keep hammering your core message. 

Right now it feels like the Conservative campaign is all barnacles and no boat. 

When was the last time Rishi Sunak was left to really hammer his core message? What even is the core message? 

Instead, every day it seems there's something else threatening to sink the Conservative campaign boat.

Whether D-Day or gambling, the prime minister is sucked into another round of media interviews where he's not hitting the campaign messages he wants to. 

And he’s running out of opportunities.

A tough start for Sir Keir Starmer as he was asked firstly about his claim last week Jeremy Corbyn would have made a better prime minister than Boris Johnson.

He answered deftly by praising Mr Johnson over his strong support for Ukraine and wins applause. He was obviously ready for the Corbyn question after being wobbly in previous TV clashes.

But he was accused by an audience member of lying and the Corbyn questions dragged on much longer than Sir Keir would have liked.

When the questions moved on to the government’s Rwanda policy, with a question from Jonathan the retired police officer again.

He was doing quite well until a heckler from the audience shouted: "You're still not going to stop the boats!"

It wasn't the first heckle. Earlier an audience member accused him of wanting to take the UK back into the EU.

Sir Keir chose to answer the heckler. And did so at length. He took his time to answer on illegal migration and did pretty well in attempting to win over the audience.

And he was applauded when he defended Labour's controversial policy of axing the tax break for private schools. He was unapologetic and again won applause from the audience.

Good personal stuff from Sir Keir talking about the NHS and his own experience with his sick mother in an answer to a question about a previous disclosure that he'd pick the NHS over private care in an emergency.

A solid performance from the Labour leader - but a show of hands on a few questions put by The Sun's political editor Harry Cole at the end proved inconclusive.

No clear winner. Good moments and tricky moments for both leaders. A score draw, which will probably suit both.
