Guide to My Disney Experience and Mobile Apps for First Time Visitors: Your Essential Companion

Guide to My Disney Experience and Mobile Apps

My Disney Experience is a comprehensive and user-friendly mobile app designed to enhance your visit to Disney parks. It serves as your personalized guide, offering real-time information on attractions, dining options, and entertainment. With this app, planning your trip becomes a streamlined process, enabling you to maximize your enjoyment and efficiently manage your vacation time.

To get started, download the My Disney Experience app onto your smartphone before your trip. Once installed, you can make FastPass+ selections to bypass long lines at popular attractions, reserve dining experiences, and check wait times for all the rides from anywhere in the park. Keep in mind that FastPass+ selections are limited and subject to availability, so it’s advantageous to make your choices early.

Navigating the Disney parks is made simpler with the app’s interactive maps and GPS-enabled functionalities. These features will guide you to your next attraction, show you restroom locations, and even pinpoint your parking spot at the end of your visit. Remember to keep your phone charged; a portable charger can be a useful companion to ensure you have access to the app throughout the day.

Getting Started with My Disney Experience

For first-time visitors, setting up a My Disney Experience account is essential for planning your trip. This service acts as your digital gateway to Walt Disney World, allowing you to manage reservations, FastPass+ selections, and view up-to-date park information on your smartphone.

  • Click on “Sign In”
  • Choose “Create Account”
  • Input your personal details carefully
  • Agree to the terms to finalize your account setup

Downloading the App

The My Disney Experience mobile app is available for both iOS and Android devices. You can download it by searching for “My Disney Experience” in either the App Store or Google Play. Ensure that your phone is compatible with the app and has sufficient storage space for the download.

  • For iOS : Search “My Disney Experience” in the App Store
  • For Android : Search “My Disney Experience” in Google Play
  • Check phone compatibility and available storage

Setting Up Your Profile

Upon signing in to the app with your new account, you will need to set up your profile. This involves adding a photo, your contact information, and linking tickets or reservations you may have. Your profile is the centerpiece of your experience, keeping your plans and preferences in one place.

  • Access the app and sign in
  • Add a profile photo and contact details
  • Link any tickets and reservations to your account for a seamless experience

By following these steps, you’ll be ready to plan your visit using My Disney Experience, enhancing your Disney vacation with technology at your fingertips.

Planning Your Visit

When preparing for your Disney World vacation, it’s essential to use the My Disney Experience app for a smooth experience. This tool will be your guide for purchasing tickets, making park reservations, and booking dining and experiences.

Purchasing Tickets

First, select the type of park ticket that suits your vacation plans. Park tickets are available for single-day or multi-day visits, and you can choose between base tickets or those with the Park Hopper option, which allows you to visit multiple parks in a single day. Visit the official Disney World website to make your purchase. Remember, after buying your tickets, link them to your My Disney Experience account.

  • Determine the number of days you plan to visit.
  • Purchase your tickets from Disney World’s official website or through the app.
  • Link your tickets to the My Disney Experience app immediately after purchase for easy planning.

Making Park Reservations

After acquiring your tickets, secure a Park Pass reservation for each day of your visit. Due to limited capacity, entry to each Disney park —such as Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom—requires a reservation in advance.

  • Open the My Disney Experience app or visit the website.
  • Select the date and park you wish to visit.
  • Confirm your reservation and keep track of your plans on the app.

Booking Dining and Experiences

Plan and reserve your dining experiences well in advance, particularly for popular restaurants and character meals, which can be booked up to 60 days prior to your visit. You can also reserve experiences like Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or special tours.

  • Explore dining options and experiences available during your visit dates.
  • Reserve your choices through the app or website at the 60-day mark.
  • Manage all your reservations within the My Disney Experience app for ease and convenience.

Navigating the Parks

When you first arrive at Walt Disney World, efficiently navigating the parks is crucial to maximizing your visit. The My Disney Experience mobile app is your essential tool, offering interactive maps, current wait times, and the Disney Genie service to organize your adventure.

Using the Interactive Map

Open the My Disney Experience app to access the interactive Disney World map . Your location is pinpointed by GPS, allowing you to view nearby attractions, dining, and restrooms. Follow these steps to use the map effectively:

  • Locate yourself on the map to establish your starting point.
  • Search for attractions, shows, and services to find their locations.
  • Get directions by selecting your destination; the app will provide the best route.

Finding Attractions and Wait Times

Using the app, you can find attractions and view their wait times in real-time. Here is how to stay informed:

  • Check the Wait Times: Tap on the ‘Attractions’ tab to see a list of all attractions and their current wait times.
  • Use the Tip Board: The Tip Board provides wait times and can help you decide which attractions to visit next.

Scheduling Your Day with Disney Genie

Disney Genie, integrated within the My Disney Experience app, optimizes your park itinerary. To schedule your day:

  • Select your interests , such as favorite attractions or characters.
  • Review the personalized itinerary that Disney Genie creates for you.
  • Adapt on the go , as Disney Genie updates your plan in real-time, suggesting the next best move.

By following these guidelines, you can navigate Walt Disney World’s parks smoothly and spend less time planning and more time enjoying the magic.

Maximizing Park Enjoyment

To ensure a magical time at Disney parks, you need to master the FastPass+ system, MagicBands, Lightning Lane reservations, and understanding virtual queues.

Utilizing FastPass+ and MagicBands

FastPass+ is a digital system that allows you to reserve access to select attractions, entertainment, and character greetings before you even arrive at the park. MagicBands are wearable devices that serve as an all-in-one device to effortlessly access the plans and FastPass+ selections you’ve made with My Disney Experience. Follow these steps to utilize FastPass+ and MagicBands:

  • Link your park ticket to My Disney Experience. Once linked, you can make FastPass+ selections.
  • Select FastPass+ experiences up to 30 days in advance (60 days for Disney Resort guests).
  • Use your MagicBand to enter the FastPass+ lane for each of your selections during the allocated one-hour window.

MagicBands can also be used as a room key for Disney Resort guests and to charge purchases to your room during your stay.

Reserving Access with Lightning Lane

Lightning Lane entrances are available for select attractions and help you save time by reducing the wait in line. To reserve access:

  • Purchase Disney Genie+ service on the day of your visit.
  • Choose your first Lightning Lane attraction via the My Disney Experience app.
  • Reserve your Lightning Lane arrival window.

You can make one Lightning Lane selection at a time throughout the day, after you’ve used your first selection or two hours after the park opens, whichever comes first.

Exploring Virtual Queues and Shows

Some attractions and shows at Disney parks utilize virtual queues – an innovative system that allows guests to reserve a spot in line without physically standing in line. For virtual queues:

  • Check for availability early in the day as virtual queue space can fill up quickly.
  • Join the queue via the My Disney Experience app when it opens.
  • Monitor your assigned boarding group through the app and proceed to the attraction when your group is called.

Virtual queues are used for high-demand attractions, saving precious park time, while card, MagicBands, and MagicMobile provide alternative access options. For shows, check showtimes in the app and consider arriving early for the best seats or viewing spots.

Managing Dining Options

Efficiently managing your dining experiences is crucial for a smooth visit to Disney parks. Here’s how you can navigate your options with the My Disney Experience mobile app.

Mobile Ordering Food

To save time, utilize the mobile order service available through the My Disney Experience app. Select a participating restaurant and choose your desired meal times.

  • Open the app and tap ‘Order Food’.
  • Choose from the list of available dining options.
  • Customize your order, review it, and then pay via the app.

Once your pickup time arrives, head to the restaurant and enjoy your meal without the wait.

Securing Advance Dining Reservations

Secure your dining reservations well in advance. This is essential for popular restaurants.

  • Access the app’s dining section.
  • Browse available dining options and decide where you wish to dine.
  • Book your table up to 60 days in advance.

Remember that slots fill quickly, so act early to avoid disappointment.

Character Dining Experiences

Character dining is a unique experience where you dine with Disney characters.

  • Open the app and tap ‘Find Dining’.
  • Look for restaurants offering character dining and review times.
  • Secure your reservation, then anticipate your magical meal.

Remember, character dining experiences are in high demand, so secure your spot early.

Disney Parks Planning Tips

Dos and don’ts for using the my disney experience app.

MyDisneyExperiene logo

My Disney Experience is the official mobile app for Walt Disney World.  This app provides Guests with so much information that it can be a lot to figure out.  To help you get familiar with the app and know what you should and shouldn’t do, we are going to dive into some dos and don’ts.  We hope that these will help you be more comfortable with the app and be able to use it throughout your Walt Disney World trip with less stress.

My Disney Experience App

Do Make An Account

The first step you want to take after booking a Walt Disney World vacation is to make your free My Disney Experience account.  You can head HERE to do so.  Keep in mind, if you already have an account with companies such as ESPN or Disney+, those accounts are linked so if you are using the same email, the password would also be the same for your My Disney Experience account.

Do Link Those Reservations

As soon as you have your account made, make sure you link your reservations.  This might be your Disney vacation package or your ticket number if you ordered tickets only.  Linking your reservations is important as it will allow you to be able to do a lot of the other important pieces.

Don’t Forget To Add Families/Friends

In order to link everyone together, you will need to add friends and families into your My Disney Experience account.  If this is your first family trip, you will need to create a profile for them first and then you can connect that profile to the reservation and tickets.

If you have family members not on your reservation but are traveling at the same time, you are able to link with them as well.  This will allow you to be connected while on vacation when it comes to dining and if you choose to use Genie+.

Magic Kingdom Castle

Don’t Forget to Make Park Passes

A new step that you might forget is making Park Passes.  Disney is requiring all Guests to have a park pass reservation to one of the four Disney Parks each day of their ticket.  Guests are not allowed into a Theme Park without these so make sure you do so as soon as you can.  These passes do fill up so the sooner you get on the My Disney Experience app to make them the better.

Do Check Your Information

You will want to take time to make sure that your address and credit information is correct and updated.  Disney will use this information for charging to your room, mobile order and throughout the Disney Parks and Resorts.  By having it set up beforehand, you can be more prepared when you arrive.

Don’t Wait Until You Arrive

There is so much information found within the My Disney Experience app that you don’t want to wait to get familiar with it until you arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort.  Take some time to practice looking at wait times, finding dining and learning about your resort within the app before you even leave home.

By taking some time to learn the app before you arrive, once you walk through the gates at Walt Disney World you will be more prepared and ready to conquer the day.

Disney Genie+

Do Research Disney Genie, Genie+ and Lightning Lanes

Disney added a major feature to the My Disney Experience App in October.  Disney Genie was a new feature that provides Guests with suggested touring plans, projected wait times and a lot more.

Along with this feature was the addition of the paid option Genie+.  Genie+ is $15 per person/day and gives Guests access to the Lightning Lanes to over 40 attractions at the four Disney Parks.

As this is a big investment, make sure you take some time to figure out what Genie+ is all about.  We have key dates in 2022 we think Genie+ will be important HERE as well as how you can purchase it HERE .

If you want to know what rides to prioritize, we have that HERE as well as the good, bad and ugly we discovered HERE when using it.

Take some time to learn about Genie+ and everything that goes with it so you can determine if it is something you want to invest in for your Disney vacation as well as how to use it once you do invest in it.

mobile order

Do Use Mobile Ordering

A major tip that you will want to make sure you know how to do on the app is mobile order.  This system allows Guests to schedule a pick up time for quick service locations throughout the Walt Disney World Property.

Guests choose a dining location, a time they want to eat and then place their order.  Orders are able to be modified and adjusted up until the pick up window starts.  Once that window has started, Guests can choose “prepare my order” and then Cast Members will begin making their food.

This is a huge time saver in the Disney Parks.  Guests can avoid waiting in line to order by using this feature within the My Disney Experience app.

Don’t Be Scared

The app can be overwhelming but don’t be afraid to mess around within the app to see everything that it has to offer.  You can find bathrooms, see bus arrival times as well as wait times and show times all in the app for the Disney Park you are visiting.

Taking some time to look around and learn about it before heading down can make a big difference.

My Disney Experience is a huge part of a Walt Disney World vacation so make sure to follow these dos and don’ts so you get the most of the app during your vacation.

Top 13 Must-Have Apps for Disney World

There once was a time when you could go on a Walt Disney World vacation and not need to stare at a phone screen throughout your visit. Sadly, those digital-free days of paper FastPasses and wait-time boards are no more. Today, if you want your Disney trip to not be plagued by ridiculously long wait times, lengthy lines to get a table for dinner or constant fumbling for your room key or park tickets, you’ve got to be connected. And that means coming prepared with the right mobile apps to make your Disney vacation a success.

But what are the absolute best apps for Disney World? Fire up Google Play or the App Store as we download our top picks for the most useful apps for your next trip to The Most Magical Place on Earth.

Set Yourself Up for Disney Vacation Success—Digitally!

A stress-free Disney World vacation (or at least, as close to stress-free as you can get) requires a lot of planning, especially during this always-online age. With much of the trip-planning process and in-park logistics done virtually now, you need to set yourself up for success—or risk wasting lots of precious time or money. Here are some helpful tips to get you connected.

My Disney Experience app

Download Essential Disney World Apps & Familiarize Yourself Before You Arrive

As tempting as it might be to download these apps upon your arrival and figure them out as you go along, a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants mentality is only going to hurt you in the end. Almost the entire booking and planning process—including ticket purchases, Lightning Lane reservations, dining reservations, Disney resort reservations, mobile food orders and much more—can be completed or accessed using My Disney Experience, the official Walt Disney World app.

Naturally, knowing where to find all the functions and how to use them is only going to make your experience that much simpler. By educating yourself on everything the app can do ahead of time, you can check out park hours, squeeze in more rides , secure a spot in competitive virtual queues, make dining reservations for popular restaurants at the most in-demand times, order quick-service meals without having to wait in line, use your phone as your room key or theme park tickets, and so much more. It’s an invaluable headstart that many less-experienced travelers won’t have.

Be Aware That Wi-Fi in the Disney Parks Can Be Spotty

Although Disney World does have free Wi-Fi at both the theme parks and resorts, it can often be spotty or slow depending on your location, especially in ride queues. Needless to say, this isn’t exactly ideal, especially considering that you basically need internet access to check wait times, book dining and otherwise plan out your day. Not to mention, competition is often fierce for things like virtual queues , and every second counts.

All that being said, you should be prepared to connect to your mobile carrier data connection should the Wi-Fi go south. You may also want to consider downloading apps with offline functionality, specifically those like Google Maps or Apple Maps, as well as games to keep you entertained in line. This will come in handy should your internet connection go south. As a bonus, this can also keep you from draining your battery too fast. That brings us to our next tip.

Genie screen application

Remember to Bring a Power Bank or Two

Whatever you do, please, please , PLEASE remember to pack a power bank or, at the very least, a charger. Chances are that all that online time is going to suck your battery dry. And then where will you be? Unless you come prepared, flying blind, out of luck and searching frantically for an outlet somewhere. Instead, do yourself a favor and invest in a high-capacity portable charger before your trip. And for the love of DOLE Whip , make sure that it’s fully charged and ready to go.

Should you not take our advice, there is an alternative way to get your mobile device juiced back up. However, just like anything at Disney World (with the exception of this free stuff ), it’s going to cost you. FuelRod portable chargers are available for purchase ($30 plus tax) at many locations throughout the Walt Disney World Resort and include a variety of cables and adapters. Though they don’t have much capacity, they do get the job done. Better yet, you’re able to swap them out for a replacement as much as you want. While replacements are typically free, there may be an additional cost, so keep that in mind.

For FuelRod locations, open the My Disney Experience app, tap the Location icon at the bottom of the screen, select Guest Services from the menu on the top, then scroll until you see Portable Phone Charging System Kiosks. This is also where you can find the park’s nearest charging location. Just search for Mobile Charging Stations in the Guest Services menu instead.

Here are some other quick tips to keep your battery usage low:

  • Keep your screen brightness low
  • Turn on battery-saving mode
  • Reduce the time allowed before your screen times out
  • Disable automatic uploads of photos and videos to cloud storage
  • Turn off your mobile hotspot

My Disney Experience app 2

All set for your next (or first!) Disney World trip? Before you go, make some space on your phone for our favorite third-party and official Disney apps. From wait-time trackers to games, these mobile apps are sure to make your trip to Walt Disney World as magical as possible.

1. My Disney Experience App

Available on: Google Play and the App Store

If you only download one Disney app, it needs to be this one. My Disney Experience is the official Walt Disney World app. This handy-dandy mobile app is literally the key to the magic (and for folks staying at one of the Disney Resorts, your hotel room, too!). Before Trip

Or, to really save time, you can also upgrade your day with Disney Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lane entry. While not free like the basic Disney Genie Service, Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane access allow you to skip the posted wait time for some of Disney World’s most popular attractions by reserving a return window—sort of like FastPasses that cost real money. Lastly, Disney Genie+ users also have access to special Disney PhotoPass Lenses, which are Disney’s version of Snapchat filters. And yes, they are quite snazzy.

Heading to one of the other Disney Parks around the world? Apps are also available for guests visiting Disneyland Resort in California, Disneyland Paris, the Shanghai Disney Resort , Hong Kong Disneyland and the Tokyo Disney Resort, as well as for folks setting sail with the Disney Cruise Line .

Play Disney Parks app

2. Play Disney Parks App

Next on our list of must-get Disney World apps is Play Disney Parks . While My Disney Experience is your go-to source for all your necessary vacation details, the Play Disney Parks app is just plain fun. In it, you can play games, answer Disney trivia questions, turn your phone into a “datapad” at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and discover official content.

Some of the functionality for Play Disney Parks is based on your location data. In other words, while most games and trivia can be accessed at home, others require you to be in a specific place at the Disney World parks. These include:

Magic Kingdom

  • Rocket Race – Space Mountain queue
  • Off To Never Land – Peter Pan’s Flight queue

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

  • Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters – Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
  • Playset Party – Toy Story Mania queue

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

  • The ACE Guide to Pandora: Valley of Mo’ara Edition – Animal Kingdom

Not only is this a really neat way to bring the Walt Disney World Resort to life or kill time in line, but it’s also great for getting kids (or adults !) excited for their upcoming vacation. To top it all off, the interface is also downright adorable. Don’t be surprised if you spend as much time checking out the many animated details as you do actually playing the games.

Disney World Lines by TouringPlans app

3. Disney World Lines by TouringPlans

Keeping track of wait times is a huge part of a successful trip to Walt Disney World. That’s why this next Disney World app ranks so highly on our list. Made by another heavy-hitter in the Disney Parks blogosphere, Disney World Lines offers some of the same functionality as My Disney Experience, such as wait times and itinerary planning.

However, it takes things a step further by including things like crowd-level rankings, restaurant ratings and, when it’s up and running, which dining outlets are included in the Disney Dining Plan. To really take your trip planning to the next level, you can also subscribe and receive access to a full ten days of crowd forecasts.

Weatherbug app

4. WeatherBug or Your Favorite Weather App

Cost: Free or paid, depending on the app

This next best Disney app isn’t even about Walt Disney World at all. As anyone who has ever been to Central Florida can attest, weather in the Sunshine State can change quite rapidly, especially in the summertime during the rainy season. As you can imagine, a thunderstorm can definitely throw a wrench in even the best-laid plans, particularly at Disney World. So, you’re definitely going to want to have a weather app like WeatherBug on your phone. Look for an app that has radar capability, as well as hour-by-hour and ten-day forecasts, as this will help you keep on top of inclement weather and plan out your trip.

YouTube app

You might be surprised to see YouTube on our list of the best Disney World apps. However, the popular video streaming service is actually a wealth of information during the planning process. On it, you can find everything from guides and live streams to bite-by-bite food reviews and attraction ride-throughs. A little time on here can be invaluable in helping you figure out what to eat, where to stay and which rides might be too scary for young children in your group.

Lyft 1

6. Lyft or Uber

Available on: Lyft – Google Play and the App Store ; Uber – Google Play and the App Store

Rather not take Disney’s bus system to Disney Springs? Or, perhaps. you’re looking to ride from Hollywood Studios to the Magic Kingdom in style. In that case, you may want to consider using Lyft or Uber to get around. Though slightly on the pricey side, depending on where you’re going and the kind of vehicle you’re traveling in, they’re convenient and much quicker than some of the other Disney transportation options. For those using Lyft, you can even opt to take Disney’s polka-dotted rideshare offering: the adorably named Minnie Vans .

Family locator apps on Google Play

7. A Family Tracking/Locator App

For those traveling with a group, especially those with kids, one of the best Disney apps you can get is a family tracking app. Disney property is huge, and you can have one heckuva time trying to reconnect with members of your group when the crowds are at their peak (which, let’s be honest, kinda feels like all the time). A locator app makes it easy to keep tabs on everyone you care about and find them again once it’s time to meet up. You’ll find plenty of different options, both free and paid, so find one that works best for you.

Google Maps app

8. Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze

Available on: Google Maps – Google Play and the App Store ; Apple Maps – App Store ; Waze – Google Play and the App Store

While My Disney Experience makes it easy to get around the parks, we wouldn’t recommend it for folks who are driving between different points on Disney World property or to different spots around Orlando. For that, you’re better off using an actual map app like Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze. Turn-by-turn directions and traffic information make getting to your destination a breeze. Plus, some apps allow you to download offline maps, which can help you save battery while still getting where you need to go.

TravelSpend app

9. TravelSpend

There’s no doubt that a Walt Disney World vacation can be expensive. So, keep track of your travel budget with an app like TravelSpend. Not only can you see how much you’ve spent before your trip, but you can also add purchases as you go along, too, so you don’t overspend. Considering all the costs that go into a trip to Disney World and how easy it is for things to get out of hand, this is easily one of the best Disney apps you can download.

Heads Up app

10. Apps to Keep You Entertained in Line

With nowhere to sit, the sun beating down, and tons of people around you, long wait times at Disney World can be absolutely brutal. Fortunately, with a little pre-planning, they don’t need to be completely miserable. Some of the best Disney World apps are those that help keep your mind off the clock (and your aching feet), like a trivia game or e-reader.

With episodes of your kiddo’s favorite shows, DisneyNOW ( Google Play and the App Store ) can be a great way to keep your little one entertained, provided that you’re in a place with good Wi-Fi. We also love games like GuessUp – Word Party Charades (a free version of Heads Up! on Google Play and the App Store ) that allow you to play with everyone in your group, as well as friendly neighbors nearby. Of course, you can also read a good book on Kindle, too ( Google Play and the App Store ). Just keep in mind that while the app itself might be free, there may be in-app purchases.

Spotify

11. Spotify or Other Podcast App

Another one of our favorite apps when travel planning is Spotify because it’s filled with insightful podcasts by Disney Parks pros and plenty of really useful information. Turn one on as you’re driving to or from work, or pop in your earbuds and get some tips while doing some cleaning. You’re sure to get some ideas that will make your vacation even more magical.

Sorcerer Radio app

12. Sorcerer Radio

We don’t know about you, but we love listening to the music of the Disney Parks. In fact, we’ll sometimes even turn it on at home if we need a little pixie dust. Although you can hear those enchanting tunes in many different places, one of the best Disney World apps if you’re in need of some atmosphere is Sorcerer Radio. Offering all sorts of channels, such as RopeDrop, which features attraction music, or Spa Day, which plays soothing Disney songs, there’s something for every occasion. Turn it on while you’re packing your bags before your trip or anytime you want a little mood music.

Countdown to the Mouse app

13. A Countdown App

Nothing is more exciting than the days leading up to a Disney World vacation. So, why not build the anticipation with a countdown app? While you could get a Disney-specific app like Countdown to the Mouse ( Google Play and the App Store ), which also comes with things like packing lists and helpful reminders, we like keeping a general countdown app on our phones to help keep track of other upcoming trips and events, too.

Well, folks, that brings our list of the best Disney apps to an end. What’s on your must-download list for a Disney World vacation? Let us know in the comments! Then, learn how to save on your next vacation with our discount Disney World tickets .

My Disney Experience App: A Guide

my disney experience app

A Beginner’s Guide to the My Disney Experience App

This Guide will teach you how to use the My Disney Experience App. My Disney Experience allows you to make reservations prior to your trip and then continues to be your source for information and updates throughout your Disney World vacation. Mastering this app is essential to planning the absolute best Disney World vacation possible. Let’s take a deeper look at this powerful app and examine why it will make your life much easier and your vacation more magical.

What is the My Disney Experience App?

my disney experience download

Walt Disney World’s old paper ticketing system is now a thing of the past. It’s been replaced with a new planning tool – My Disney Experience – which combines innovative, wearable technology with a powerful smartphone app. By using the service, you’ll be able to combine all of your planning and reservation information into one location. It’s now easier than ever before!

My Disney Experience allows you to make Advance Dining Reservations (ADR) and Lightning Lane/Disney Genie+ selections, check out the park hours, interactive maps, up-to-the-minute wait times for attractions, and much more.

The app is easy to use, and you can access your account via a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Once you create an account, you’ll simply log in to make your reservations and check every detail of your trip.

Want to share these details with your travel companions? No problem! Once everyone in your party has set up their own My Disney Experience account, you’ll be able to share the details of your Disney trip with your connections.

The app also allows you to customize your MagicBand, that colorful wearable device everyone has on their wrist. Once you activate your MagicBand, the device will act as your park tickets, resort hotel key, verification for Genie+ and Lightning Lane selections, and payment system. Your account will be charged automatically when you purchase items like food and merchandise from your MagicBand. No need to open up your wallet!

If you have a Disney resort reservation, then your MagicBand is automatically linked to your My Disney Experience account. If not, you can purchase a MagicBand at a participating retail location and link it to your account.

By signing up for a My Disney Experience app, you will be able to:

  • Build your Dream Disney World Vacation : Once your account has been created, you’ll be able to save items in your cart for convenience.
  • Make Reservations in Advance: With the My Disney Experience app, you can easily make your dining reservations (and other reservations) before you arrive.
  • Manage your Itinerary: Not only will you be able to create your vacation details, but you can also share your itinerary with family and friends.
  • Seamless Organization: My Disney Experience will connect your ticket for theme parks and Annual Passes to your card or MagicBand.
  • Hotel Registration Made Easy: Instead of the normal hotel lobby check-in, you’ll be able to head directly to your room (if you are staying at a Disney Resort hotel).
  • Relive the Fun: With My Disney Experience, you’ll be able to view all of your Disney PhotoPass photos.

Once you have set up an account, then it’s time to enter your reservation information. Each member of your party/family will be able to choose their preferred MagicBand color and personalize it with a name. Once completed, Disney will send your MagicBands to your home address, but you can begin your trip planning in the meantime.

Update: With the expectation of Annual Passholders, Disney no longer sends free MagicBands to its guests . You can still purchase them online here .

From the start screen, you’ll be able to see where everything is located and also check your dining options, the wait times for each attraction, the locations for character meet-and-greets , hotels, bathrooms, spas, and stores. The app will allow you to see your option for entertainment and special events, where to find PhotoPass locations, guest service information, and more. The My Disney Experience app will be your best friend and personal tour guide while you are at the park!

3. Make your Disney Genie+ Selections

The My Disney Experience App will come in handy for a lot of things, and it’s even more valuable with the integration of the Disney Genie app .

Disney Genie+

The Disney Genie+ reservation system allows you to bypass the regular lines at the popular attractions and then breeze right onto the rides via the Lightning Lane entrance.

Your first Disney Genie+ reservation can be made starting at 7 AM on the day of your visit, regardless of if you are staying at a Disney World resort or somewhere off Disney property.

Disney Genie+ typically costs $15-$30 (varies by date/demand/park) per ticket per day and gives you access to the Lightning Lane entrance at over 40 Disney World attractions. Selections can be made one at a time throughout the day.

Lightning Lane Passes

Individual Lightning Lane passes are available for Disney’s highest-demand attractions. Costs vary based on attraction, date, and availability.

If you make reservations to stay at a Disney-owned resort hotel, then you’ll be able to make your pay-per-ride Lightning Lane selections starting at 7 AM on the same day as your Walt Disney World visit. If you are staying elsewhere but have your theme park tickets, then you can make your selections once the park opens.

Need more information? Contact The Vacationeer today!

The chart below details which rides and attractions are included in Disney Genie+ and which are eligible for Lightning Lane Passes (pay-per-ride).

Where to Begin

  • Selection “Get Disney Genie+” option from the start menu
  • Choose the date you wish to make your Disney Genie+ selections for
  • Select the Disney theme park you’ll be at on this day
  • Next, scroll through the options and “select an experience” for your Disney Genie+ reservation.
  • Then select a time that makes sense.

Note that some experiences may not be available. Remember to book your Disney Genie+ selections as soon as possible because the early bird catches the worm .

Once you have selected the attraction and timeframe, then you will see the “review and confirm” screen. Press “confirm” once you have made your decision.

How to Choose Your Disney Genie+ Selection

First, decide which Disney experiences are your top priorities. Next, consider which attractions will likely have the longest lines.

It probably goes without saying, but you’ll want to choose rides that are expected to have long lines so you can get the most value out of your Genie+ and Lightning Lane selections.

For some Disney Genie+ ideas, see our Best Magic Kingdom Rides , Best Epcot Rides , Best Animal Kingdom Rides and Best Hollywood Studios Rides pages before you choose. And for other strategies to avoid crowds, see our Disney Crowd Calendar , How to Avoid Lines at Disney World , Disney After Hours , Club Level at Disney World , and Disney VIP Tours articles.

Make your trip as magical as possible!

4. Making your Advanced Dining Reservations

My Disney Experience dining reservations

My Disney Experience is an easy way to make your advance dining reservations. From the start menu, you simply select the option to reserve dining, then add the size of your party and the date you wish to dine. Next, you will select the general area/location of your desired restaurant and the type of cuisine you wish to eat. Scroll through the options and pick an available restaurant and time that works best for you.

Once you arrive at Walt Disney World Resort, you’ll be able to pre-order meals using the My Disney Experience app (at participating restaurants).

5. Check Wait Times

With the My Disney Experience (and now Disney Genie) mobile app, you can check the current wait times for rides and character greetings in real time.

Once you are in the Disney parks, you’ll be able to change your Genie+ selections on the go. And after you’ve completed your first Genie+ experience, then you’ll be able to reserve more times for the Lightning Lane entrance as the day goes on.

You’ll also be able to change dining reservations and use the map view to locate restrooms and restaurants and to read more about a particular attraction. And the Disney Genie service will provide you with real-time wait times and advice!

See our Disney World Souvenirs and Best Disney Backpacks pages for ways to carry your belonging and keep your phone charged.

6. MagicBands and My Disney Experience

Disney MagicBand

Each guest will receive a MagicBand – a colorful rubber wristband that contains an embedded computer chip that holds all of your vacation information. Your MagicBand will act as the key to unlock all of your Walt Disney World magic. They are used as your hotel room key, theme park ticket, dining reservations, Genie+, Disney PhotoPass, and resort charge card during your trip.

Your My Disney Experience account (and credit card) are linked directly to your MagicBand. This makes for a seamless and effortless in-park experience.

Please check that the upcoming vacation is linked to your My Disney Experience account . If you have booked through a Disney travel planner or Disney’s website, then it should be automatically linked to your account. If you book your trip via a third party, then you’ll need to link your accounts.

Once your accounts are linked, then you can begin to personalize your MagicBand. Click on “My Disney Experience” in the upper right corner and then click “MagicBands and Cards.” Verify your mailing address and begin to customize your MagicBand.

After you’ve added your details, then click the “ship now” button to have it shipped to your home address. Allow a week or two for delivery.

Once your MagicBand has arrived, now you’ll now be ready to hit the ground running upon your arrival at Walt Disney World Resort.

7. Walt Disney World Resort Hotels and My Disney Experience App

guide to my disny experience

With the My Disney Experience app, you’ll be able to save time when you stay at one of Disney’s official hotels.

In conjunction with your MagicBand, you’ll be able to check into your hotel room using the “My Resort Dashboard” feature. It will grant you access to your Disney Resort hotel reservations, where you can see your building, floor, and room number. You’ll also be able to check in from the app! This will come in especially handy for families with young (and impatient) kids.

The “My Resort Dashboard” includes directions and transportation options to your resort, a map of the hotel with the location of your room, and a number to call your hotel’s front desk if you need some assistance.

8. Purchases Made Easy

what is the my disney experience app?

Walt Disney World Resort has dozens and dozens of gift shops and vendors throughout the park. As you make your purchases, there’ll be no need to pull out your wallet because these merchants are equipped with MagicBand readers. Simply place your MagicBand up against the reader, type in your PIN, and then your My Disney Experience account will be charged automatically. It’s that simple!

If you lose your MagicBand, don’t fret. You can deactivate your MagicBand (using the My Disney Experience app) until you replace it with a new one. And if your MagicBand is found by someone else, they won’t be able to make purchases without your PIN code or access your credit card information.

Enjoy your Walt Disney World Vacation !

We hope you find this guide to the My Disney Experience app has been helpful.

Top 5 Apps to Have on Your Smartphone for Your Trip to Disney World

disney trip planner app

One important planning tip that can make a Disney trip easier (and more enjoyable) is having the right apps downloaded to your smartphone. Some of the built-in apps that most phones have, like Camera and Weather, are invaluable. However, I would recommend you download a few from the app store, on whatever mobile device you own, before your trip. Disney planning has now gone digital, and these apps can help you with everything from determining attraction wait times, to park tips to information on Disney restaurants and much more. Best of all, most of them can keep you entertained while waiting in line!

5 – Magic Guide for Disney World

This app has all the most important information you need for a day at the parks- and it’s free to download, though there are in-app purchases. The Magic Guide for Disney World offers park hours, attraction wait times and parade/showtimes, maps, restaurant menus, photos, and descriptions. If you allow the app to use your location, you can use the maps to see the closest attractions, restaurants, and restrooms. I mostly use the app for wait times and park hours, but you can also use it to organize dining schedules and to share those plans with others. Note that you can get most, if not all, of this information for free by using the My Disney Experience app, but this offers a nice alternative if you want to use something else.

disney trip planner app

4 – Play Disney Parks

This official app from Disney was designed to help make your wait time on certain attractions a little more entertaining. Users who download Play Disney Parks (which works in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World) can play games with their party that are themed to certain attractions. For instance, if you’re waiting for Avatar: Flight of Passage or Toy Story Mania, you can play games designed to match the queue area and earn badges. Some attractions have multiple games you can play, which works well with rides with lines spanning over an hour. For shorter attractions, all you need to earn a badge is to ride the attraction itself.

If you have an Apple Music subscription, this app also comes with theme park music playlists you can download. If not, you can play trivia while walking around the parks and the fun, interactive maps you can examine. This app is still evolving, and not all attractions are listed yet. Disney recently added resort experiences, so now you can play while exploring the Art of Animation Resort. I’m sure, soon enough, every ride, restaurant, and resort will have some sort of badge, game, or achievement, and you’ll need to visit them all to fully complete everything.

3 – Sorcerer Radio

If you can’t get Disney park music through the Play Disney Parks app, Sorcerer Radio is another good option. This app streams park music all day, every day. You can even have it on in the background while doing other things on your phone. Park loops and attraction music are always added, so you’ll have both the latest songs and nostalgic Disney tunes in your pocket. In my opinion, this is the perfect app to get you hyped for your Disney trip, whether you’re listening to it on the way there, in the hotel room as you’re getting ready for a park day, or after your vacation is over and you’re feeling homesick for Disney.

2 – Mouse Memo Trip Organizer

If you’re the type of extreme organizer who likes to put everything into binders and sort things into categories, then I would definitely recommend this app. For $1.99, you can use Mouse Memo to keep track of things like rental cars, hotels, flight times, reservations, airport transfer information, and tours. You can also utilize their restaurant guide, which grabs up-to-date menus from dining locations all over Disney World property. I’m the type of person who likes checking and double-checking itineraries. If I’m traveling between Disney and other Orlando destinations, I like to keep my important information all in one place.

1 – My Disney Experience

If you only download one app for your trip to Disney World, make sure it’s this one! My Disney Experience (or MDE) is basically your lifeline while you’re in the World. On the app, make and change dining reservations, look at PhotoPass pictures, view park maps, wait times, showtimes, and character meet and greet locations…and much, much more. If you have a Disney resort reservation, you can use the app to check in early and even use your phone as a room key to open your resort door! The new complimentary Disney Genie tools can give you itinerary suggestions, which are a great starting point for planning. Finally, you’ll need the app to make your Lightning Lane selections.

I’ve always loved doing things at Disney World without having to call someone, and this app basically lets you check, add, and edit every aspect of your vacation. Of course, there are real-life Cast Members around to help, but this is a must-have for planning purposes before your trip! This app is free to download, and now that most parties travel with smartphones, there’s really no excuse not to have My Disney Experience on your mobile device!

Once you make an account, you will be able to create plans for you and everyone else in your party. All of these plans will also show up on the app, so you will always have easy access to this information.

My Disney Experience will be your planner, your photo holder, your map, and it can even be your room key and park ticket! There is so much to learn about My Disney Experience to make your trip as simple as possible, so get ready to dive in!

main page of My Disney Experience

Planning Your Trip On My Disney Experience:

You simply can’t plan your first Disney vacation without creating a My Disney Experience account. After you register and create an account, you can connect with your friends and family.

Then, you can purchase tickets or add already purchased tickets to your account. You can make park pass reservations for each park on your preferred date. My Disney Experience is also where you will be able to book dining reservations and purchase Memory Maker.

There are a lot of components to My Disney Experience, so we’re going to start off by letting you know how you can use it to plan your Disney vacation!

Registering For A My Disney Experience Account

It is super easy to set up a My Disney Experience account! Head to the My Disney Experience login , and here you will have the option to create an account. You will then fill out some information such as your name, email, and a password.

Once everything is filled out, you can choose an avatar for your account! Locate the drop down menu on the My Disney Experience tab, and then select the ‘Profile’ button. On the next page there will be a button option to ‘Change Character’. There are over 50 Disney characters to choose from!

Now that you’ve created an account, you’re ready to start adding other people and your plans!

How To Add Family Or Friends To Your My Disney Experience Account

If you are just traveling with your immediate family, only one person really needs an account. So for a party of 4 with parents and 2 children, one parent could control an account for everyone. The other parent could also have an account if they wish, but it is not necessary.

However, let’s say you are traveling with extended family and friends. You all might not be doing the exact same things or even be staying at the same resort. This is where connecting to your family or friend’s My Disney Experience account matters.

To find and connect family or friends to your account, head to the My Disney Experience tab and click on the ‘My Family & Friends’ button. On this page there will be a button to ‘Add a Guest’. There are different ways to add a guest, but if you want to invite someone to connect with you, choose the ‘I’ll enter their name and age’ option. Enter their information, and then a button will pop up for you to ‘Invite this Guest to connect’. Enter their email, and My Disney Experience will notify them that you’d like to connect with them!

Once you connect with others, you will be able to make plans with them! So even if you are staying at different resorts, you can make dining reservations and select everyone that will be joining you.

How To Book a Resort On My Disney Experience

If you haven’t already made a Disney resort reservation, this is the perfect time to do so! If you have made a resort reservation, you can link your reservation to your My Disney Experience.

To look for resort availability, head to ‘My Plans’ under the My Disney Experience tab. Find the spot that says ‘Resort Hotel’ and hover over this to see the ‘Explore Resorts’ button. From here you will be able to add your dates and how many people will be in your party.

My Disney Experience will let you know which resorts are available for your dates and party size. Once you find a resort you’d like to book, follow the prompted steps to reserve and pay for your room!

You will have the option to buy tickets with your room reservation as a vacation package. You can do it this way or you can purchase your tickets separately.

screenshot of different available resorts on My Disney Experience

How To Purchase Or Add Tickets In My Disney Experience

You can’t go on a Disney vacation without park tickets ! You are able to purchase tickets on My Disney Experience. If you already have purchased tickets, you can link them to your new account.

Hover over the ‘My Disney Experience’ tab and click on ‘My Plans’. There will be a spot that says ‘Park Tickets’ and once you hover over this you can choose ‘Select Tickets’ or ‘Link Tickets’. If you are linking tickets to your account, you can link up to 10 tickets or passes for your party.

To purchase tickets, click on the ‘Select Tickets’ option. You will be able to select the number of days you want tickets for, if you want to upgrade to park hopping tickets, and the dates you want to go! Once you purchase the tickets, they will be added to your account!

screenshot of where you can buy park tickets on My Disney Experience

How To Make Park Pass Reservations On My Disney Experience

With how the world is currently, Disney requires all guests to book a park pass reservation for whichever park they’d like to visit on certain dates. This was implemented to lessen crowds and promote social distancing.

To see which park passes are available and book them, head to the ‘My Plans’ page. There will be a place that says ‘Park Reservations’. Hover over this and click on ‘Make a Park Reservation’. You can then select all of the people in your party that will be joining you at the parks during your vacation.

After this, a calendar will pop up. You can select any date and then select a park to see if passes are available. Once you have all of your park passes, you are free to make any dining reservations without the worry of wondering if you’ll be able to get into the park that day!

If you purchase park hopping tickets, you only need to make park pass reservations for the first park you plan on visiting. After 2 p.m., you can hop over to any other park without a reservation.

screenshot of making a park pass reservation on My Disney Experience

How To Book Dining On My Disney Experience

This is my favorite part about planning a Disney vacation – FOOD! You can book dining reservations 60 days out from each date of your vacation. If there’s a certain restaurant you really want to eat at, we recommend booking it at the 60 day mark at approximately 5:45 a.m. EST (this is the time the reservations become available).

To search for and add advanced dining reservations, click on the ‘My Plans’ button. There will be an option under ‘Dining’ to ‘Make a Reservation’ or ‘Link a Reservation’ you have already made.

When you go to make a reservation, you will enter the date, time, and party size that you’d like to search for. There are also advanced filters that will let you narrow down your search if you are looking for restaurants in a specific park.

If there is a specific Disney restaurant you want to eat at, you can type the name of the restaurant in the search bar near the top. Once you click on the restaurant, there is an option to search for availability for that specific restaurant only.

There are so many great dining options at Disney World, you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose!

Purchasing Memory Maker On My Disney Experience

Disney has a fantastic PhotoPass system where their PhotoPass photographers will take amazing shots for you all around the parks. You can also save your ride photos at the end of select rides.

If you want to have full access to these photos without any Disney watermarks in the way, you should consider purchasing Memory Maker . You can take as many photos as you’d like during your vacation, and they will be digitally downloaded to your My Disney Experience account. You can view and eventually print these photos when you return from your trip!

To purchase Memory Maker, click on the ‘Buy Memory Maker’ button under the My Disney Experience tab. You will have the choice to purchase Memory Maker for a single day, in advance, or at any time during your vacation. Purchasing Memory Maker at least 3 days before your trip will save you $30, so we highly recommend doing so if you know for sure you’ll be using it.

How To Do Online Check In At Your Disney Resort

You’ve spent all of this time planning and now you are finally here! Instead of going to the lobby and waiting in line to check in, how would you like to do online check in on your phone instead? This is easiest to do on the app, but you can do it on the website as well.

On the app or the website go to ‘My Plans’. There will be a button that says ‘Start Check In Now’. Once you check in, My Disney Experience will let you know if your room is ready or not. If it is, it will tell you your room number and you can head straight to it! You can then use your magic band or even your phone as your room key to enter.

To use your My Disney Experience app as a room key, click on the plans of your resort. Scroll down a little bit and there is a button that says ‘Unlock Door’. Once you click on this, hold your phone up to the scanner on the room door, and it should unlock for you!

Online check in has made it so convenient to get to your room without having to wait in a long line!

Using My Disney Experience On Your Vacation:

My Disney Experience doesn’t only just help plan your vacation, but it will be useful during your trip as well! Especially if you download the app. The app can do everything the website can, and it will be much easier and quicker .

Using the My Disney Experience app, you can check wait times at every park, review PhotoPass photos, mobile order at select quick service locations, and much more!

Mobile Order With My Disney Experience

Not too long ago, if you wanted to order food from a quick service restaurant at Disney World, you would need to get in line, order, and wait for the food. Technology has now made this process easier and more convenient! At certain quick service locations, you can use your My Disney Experience app to mobile order food in advance or right when you decide you’d like to eat.

The only issue with ordering right when you want food is the restaurant might not have the availability to make your food right away. So it’s definitely useful to be able to order food in advance if you already know what food you’d like and when.

How to Mobile Order

To mobile order on the My Disney Experience app, click on the ‘+’ button at the bottom of the screen. Choose the ‘Order Food’ button. This will give you a list of all the places you can mobile order food from and their available times. If you are looking for a specific quick service restaurant, you can always search for it on the app and then click on the ‘Order Food’ button under the restaurant name.

When you are ready to order food, pick the time that best suits your schedule. Then a menu list will pop up, and you can add and customize whatever food you’d like to order. When you are ready to check out, you will need to add a credit card, debit card, gift card, or Disney Rewards card.

Once your order is placed, you’ll wait until it’s your time window to head to the restaurant. When you have arrived you will click the button that says you are here and to prepare your order. As soon as your order is ready, My Disney Experience will notify you, and you can head to the counter to pick up your food!

This is a great feature on My Disney Experience if you are paying with a card, but don’t worry if you plan on using cash! Just let the cast member at the front of the restaurant know that you’d like to order in person and use cash to pay.

Checking Wait Times At Parks

While at the parks, you’re not going to want to visit every Disney ride just to see what the wait time is! My Disney Experience has made it really easy to check wait times for the rides at every park.

To do this, click on the little map icon at the bottom of your screen. This will pull up a map of the Walt Disney World Resort area. At the top of the screen is a drop down menu that has the option to look at wait times. It also gives you options such as attractions, dining, restrooms, and more so you can easily find these places on the map.

Make sure ‘Wait Times’ is selected. It will show the wait times at each park on the map, but seeing it in list view is much easier. Go to the ‘Filter’ button at the top left. Click on the park you want to see wait times for. Then click on ‘Show List’ on the top right. Now you have a full list of all of the rides and their wait times in your selected park!

If you will be park hopping to another park later in the day, you can always check the wait times before you even get there!

screenshot of wait times for Hollywood Studios on the My Disney Experience app

Review PhotoPass Photos

Regardless if you buy Memory Maker or not, you can view all of your photos on the My Disney Experience website and app. If you don’t have Memory Maker, a watermark will be placed across your photos.

On the app, click on the button with 3 horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen. From here, click on ‘Photos’. Now you will be able to see all of your saved ride photos and PhotoPass shots.

Disney will sometimes even send photos to your My Disney Experience account without you even needing to scan! They will also add videos of certain rides with your picture in it such as Tower of Terror or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

If you don’t have Memory Maker but you decide that you do want full access to your photos, that’s not a problem! You can purchase Memory Maker during your vacation to get access to photos of one certain day or the whole trip.

Getting A Rise Of The Resistance Boarding Pass

Now onto the infamous and highly coveted ride – Rise of the Resistance ! This ride has been open since December 2019, but crowds are still drawn to Disney World just to have a chance of riding this attraction.

You will need the My Disney Experience app and a quick hand to score a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance. You can even practice on the app before your vacation just to see what it is like.

Right when you open the My Disney Experience app, you’ll be on the home page. Scroll down until you find the section called ‘Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – Request Access with Virtual Queue’. If you can’t find it here, click on the 3 horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen. There you will be able to find a button called ‘Virtual Queues’ and will be able to join this way as well.

As long as you have a park pass reservation for Hollywood Studios , you will be able to join the virtual queue at 7 a.m. or 1 p.m. You don’t need to be in the park during the 7 a.m. time, so you can join the queue from the comfort of your resort. However, you will need to be in the park for the 1 p.m. time.

Right at 7 a.m. or 1 p.m. you will hit join, and My Disney Experience will prompt you through what to do. We have an entire article Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue: Step by Step Tips for a more in depth explanation on how to score a boarding pass! May the force be with you!

Using MagicMobile As Your Ticket

Now that Magic Bands are no longer free with your resort stay, more people are opting out of purchasing one. There are a couple of options if you don’t want to use a magic band. You can go old school and get a physical ticket, or you can use your phone! You can use MagicMobile on an iPhone or Apple Watch with Apple Wallet, or with a Google Play enabled Android phone.

To use MagicMobile on the My Disney Experience app, click on the 3 horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen. There will be an option called ‘Disney MagicMobile’. Once you are on Disney MagicMobile, you can click on ‘Set Up Your Pass’. Then you will choose the button that lets you add the ticket to your smart device’s wallet.

Now you will have access to your ticket on your smart device, and you can use it to scan into the parks!

screenshot of MagicMobile on My Disney Experience

Check Bus Wait Times

To view bus wait times on the My Disney Experience app, you will need to have a resort reservation and be currently staying at the resort. Otherwise the option to view bus wait times will not show up.

While staying at your resort, click on the resort in your plans on the My Disney Experience app. Here you can find a lot of information about your resort. There will be a button that says ‘Check Bus Wait Times’. Now you can see when the next bus will be at your resort to take you to your destination!

Mobile Check Out at Select Stores

A new feature that is still being tested is mobile check out. Currently you can only use mobile check out at World of Disney in Disney Springs or Mouse Gear in Epcot . This feature allows you to check out your items on your phone without having to wait in line.

To use it, click on the ‘+’ button at the bottom of your My Disney Experience app. Choose the option that says ‘Shop in Store’. It will then let you choose which store you are at. Now you can scan the barcodes for all the items you plan on purchasing. Once you are ready to check out, you can use your card to buy the items on the app.

When you are heading out of the store, a cast member will confirm that you used mobile check out to purchase your items. When everything is confirmed, they will give you a bag to carry your new items, and viola! You’re done!

screenshot of mobile check out on My Disney Experience

With all of this information, you will be a My Disney Experience pro in no time! Disney vacation planning doesn’t have to be difficult and can be quite fun if you know what you are doing. It can be exciting to make all of your plans and then enjoy them when you get to Disney World. Keep My Disney Experience on your phone with you during your trip, and have a great time!

Disney must-have

I’ve used this app multiple times, and every time DH says to go off plan it doesn’t go nearly as well. We spent a day at the magic kingdom, finished our plan by 2:15pm after seeing everything in the park we wanted to see, never spent more than 25 min in line, and spent the rest of the day at the pool. Way better for everyone than waiting in endless lines all day! Spent today at Hollywood studios, got our slinky dog fastpass 2 months in advance, and spent 7 minutes in line vs 85 for everyone else. Use in combo with the Disney app for best results, compare wait times, adjust as needed, and enjoy leaving rides while watching the lines get longer after you’re done! Spend a few minutes getting used to it before you go as not everything is intuitive. Plan on the computer since it’s easier to move things around via drag and drop (which doesn’t really work on the phone) and adjust on the go in the park. Make sure you select your plan for each day, that makes it easier to navigate to, and follow wait times using the parks button at the bottom. It’s fun to time your waits too and see how long you really spent in line. That also helps the programs accuracy so it’s a win win. I’m sure there’s stuff in there I haven’t even figured out yet! Read the book, get the app, and enjoy a much more smooth experience.

Dream Disney Trip

This is the fourth time we have made a trip using the Unofficial Guide. Our vacation was so relaxing and fun while using the Lines app in the park as we followed our custom plan. This trip we visited all four Disney parks in Orlando during the last week of March. The crowd levels were at a level 7, 8, and 9 during our days in the parks yet we never waited more than 35 “park minutes” for anything. The majority of the attractions we waited less than 15 minutes!!!! We did get to Animal Kingdom before the park opened so we had to wait for rope drop but made it through Flight of Passage by 9:35 (with 9:00 park opening). I can’t praise this system of touring Disney enough! A bit of planning at home will make so much difference in your touring days at the park. My family was so amazed that we made it through all the attractions we wanted to see with breaks during the day and no long lines! The Unofficial Guide is our best friend for our Orlando vacations - you really get to enjoy your time seeing the attractions vs. standing in line all day. We give it a 5-Star rating!!!

Wait until things return to normal at the parks to use this app!

During normal times this is the best app ever for touring anything related to Walt Disney World! We used touring plans for well over a decade, every other year, going to Disney World. So we turned to it again this year(July 2021). Epic fail!!! It’s as if the developers and researchers didn’t do anything to update their app or software or algorithms to handle the lack of fast passes and ride closures as well as increased crowds. The crowd levels were way off as were the wait times! And on one day none of the official wait times were showing in the app. We had to turn to the crummy Disney app. All of our touring plans were a waste of time. We abandoned this app at each of the parks and instead turned to the Undercover Tourist app. They have a one day park plan for each of the parks accounting for all of the changes. They also have the updated Disney wait times. It’s not as full featured (no estimated wait times) but it was a better alternative in this case. When things return to normal and when we return to Disney World in a few years, hopefully the developers will have gotten their algorithms back in order. Until then don’t spend much time on this app.
