Add to My Trip
This seven-hour tour kicks off with a scenic 60-mile drive into the rolling hills northwest of Fairbanks . The group's driver makes the trip an interesting one, telling stories of the area, its first native inhabitants, and the gold miners who made it famous outside of Alaska. The drive takes just over an hour. After arriving at the Chena Hot Springs Resort, the tour proceeds to the property's unique ice museum.
World's largest year-round ice building.
The Aurora Ice Museum is the largest year-round ice environment in the world. Constructed in 2005, the museum uses a patented absorption chiller system to keep the indoor temperature at a crisp 25 degrees. The interior is constructed entirely of ice, from stairs and corridors, to crystalline sculptures crafted by world champion ice carvers. The space is lit by colored chandeliers that illuminate the ceiling like the northern lights. Parkas are provided free of charge.
With noses and fingertips nipped, the tour leaves the cold for the heat. A guided hot springs tour follows, giving guests a behind-the-scenes look at how the resort harnesses its abundant geothermal resource. With the guided portion of the trip complete, guests have the next two hours free to enjoy the natural hot springs themselves. The tour concludes with a return drive to Fairbanks.
The Chena Hot Springs and Ice Museum tour takes guests 60 miles outside of Fairbanks. During the seven-hour trip, guests take ice museum and geothermal tours, and enjoy two hours of free time to soak, swim, and visit the onsite restaurant. Meals are not included in the tour price. The outdoor hot spring pool averages 106 degrees.
What to Bring

Excursion Overview
Join us on one of the most requested tours in the fairbanks area.
Head over to the world-famous Chena Hot Springs Resort, where you can take a soak in one of their mineral spring water pools. The resort has two relaxing options, an indoor hot tub, and an outdoor soaking pool. The outdoor pool is restricted to adults, but all ages are welcome in the hot tub. Both pools are naturally heated year-round, allowing guests to comfortably wear a bathing suit, even in Interior Alaska's below-freezing temperatures. Chena's location is perfect for Aurora Borealis viewing. The Aurora, otherwise known as the Northern Lights, is a natural light display that can be seen in the skies above the Arctic. While we can't guarantee the presence of the Aurora, this tour runs during the best season to view them in all their glory. This tour also includes a guided tour of the Aurora Ice Museum, which is built from over 1000 tons of ice and snow harvested from the resort. The museum is kept at 25 degrees year-round to keep its magnificent ice sculptures frozen solid (but don't worry, parkas are available for use upon request)! Optionally, guests can enjoy the resort's restaurant, whose menu features locally cultivated vegetables and Alaskan seafood. Please note that the cost of dinner is not included in the tour. Chena Hot Springs is about 60 miles from Fairbanks. This tour includes round-trip scenic transportation from your hotel in Fairbanks or North Pole.
