The Best Travel Clothes for Curvy Women

Ok ladies, let’s talk travel wear. The strappy dresses, string bikinis, and pretty convertible tops that seem to be featured on every packing list, round-up, and Instagram feed. Yes, they are adorable. And I’m sure they look amazing on many women. However, as a curvy girl who is often caught between regular and plus sizes, I regularly find that these ‘perfect travel clothes’ really aren’t the best travel clothes for curvy women.

More often or not, when I look at these ‘must have’ lists  I end up mentally knocking off half the items because they won’t look good on my figure. Only to find out that those that I think might actually work on my body come in limited sizes. It’s a pain in the butt. Just because I’m curvy doesn’t mean I don’t want pretty clothes. I deserve to feel good in a swimsuit. I want to look cute in my photos. And I know I’m not the only one feeling left out when it comes to travel fashion, but the fact is that plus size travel clothing is hard to find.

Thankfully there are some brilliant brands that recognize that women of all shapes and sizes like to travel and look good while doing it. So from one curvy traveller to another, here are my recommendations for the best travel clothes for curvy women.

Best Convertible Travel Wear for Curvy Women

Convertible clothing and capsule wardrobes are perfect for travel, especially since airlines are getting so strict with luggage. And while many brands offer these types of designs, most of them target those with slimmer figures who are willing to show more skin. Personally, that’s not my style, which is why I love the chic and elegant designs from Diane Kroe.

Diane Kroe offers a range of items from shirts to dresses to pants, all of which can be worn multiple ways. My first two Diane Kroe pieces were the  Origami Top (above) and the Carry On Cozy , both of which I love. Both pieces transformed into multiple looks as tops and dresses. They washed and wore well, and were very obviously a quality make. Plus, I loved how they looked and felt on. The Origami top is perfect for dressier events and I love the Carry On Cozy for the plane and for having on hand to cover up my shoulders in more conservative places like temples.

I have since added a few more Diane Kroe pieces to my wardrobe including the butterfly wrap and Mariposa kaftan which are lightweight coverups perfect for the beach or to cover up a little more at more conservative sites. I took my butterfly wrap with me to Egypt and used my Mariposa over my swimsuits in French Polynesia.

Best Casual Travel Essentials for Curvy Women

If you have been following me for a while and paid attention to my photos you might have noticed that, for the past few years, I have worn the same black t-shirt on every single trip I take. It’s the encircled Evolve Top and it’s easily my favourite t-shirt. The sleeves are adjustable to give it different looks, it’s a bit dressier than a normal t-shirt, and it washes and wears SO well. 

I have also recently fallen in love with their Dressy Sweatpant pants which are cuter than leggings but as comfortable as PJs and can be dressed up for down. I have also declared them the ultimate airplane pants because they are super comfortable, cute, and, while not thick, provide a bit of warmth. And yes, they have pockets! They also come with me on every trip.

Best Dresses for Curvy Bodies

While I used to be a tomboy as a child, I am now 100% a dress girl. Part of it is because I think they are so pretty, part of it is because it is so easy, and part of it is because I found a brand that has a huge collection of styles and colours that fit my body really well. The brand is  City Chic and I have a closet full of their dresses right now.

City Chic has stores in the USA and Australia but does offer shipping abroad. As a Canadian, I can sometimes find their products at The Bay, but the best selection by far is online on the official City Chic website. They have dresses for every occasion and in a variety of styles so whether you want something loose and flowy or tight to hug your curves, you’ll find options here. City Chic is made for mid and plus size women so their sizing goes from size 12 (XXS) t0 24 (XXL). 

Another cute place for size inclusive dresses (xs-4x) is Cherry Velvet . This brand is Canadian and create vintage, pin-up style pieces that are super cute and can be fun to travel with as well (although you might need to iron them before wearing!). 

Best Jeans for Curvy Women

I hate buying jeans. I have thick thighs and a big butt and a smaller waist and nothing ever seems to fit properly. However, on suggestion from some friends I finally tried American Eagle curvy jeans and immediately bought three pairs. These are the only jeans I have found (so far) that actually work for my body. They have all kinds of styles but, being a millennial (who also lives in Canada where you want to be able to tuck your pants into winter boots) I’m partial to the skinny jean. The Ne(x)t level ones are super stretchy and comfortable. Recently I’m also loving the wide leg dreamy drop styles which are super soft and actually comfortable. American Eagle offers sizes up to 24 and a variety of inseam lengths. 

Best Leggings for Curvy Women

Like jeans, I struggled to find leggings that fit me well. Again, the whole smaller waist and bigger bottom led to lots of fit problems. Usually, waist bands sliding down which meant every time I hiked/walked/worked out I would have to stop to pull up my pants. I tried all kinds of brands and styles before landing on one very specific pair from lululemon: The Wunder Train tights. They don’t fall down and they aren’t see through and I cannot recommend them enough. Lululemon currently carries up to a size 20 but keep in mind the fit on their leggings is very different than jean size. I wear 18 jeans and 12 in these lululemon leggings, so keep that in mind when figuring out sizing! 

Best Travel Swimsuits for Curvy Women

Swimsuits and wetsuits have been one of my biggest pet peeves as a water love and scuba diver. Especially when, on top of travel, I live on a lake at home in Canada during the summer months. I’ve tried tons of swimsuit brands over the years and have several favourites. In fact I created a whole blog post about my favourite swim-wear brands. You can find it here.

Best Travel Outwear for Plus Size Women

Outerwear can be another pain in the butt to buy, but being Canadian I have to have several different coats for the different seasons. I’ve bought coats from plenty of brands throughout the years, but when it comes to keeping warm or dry, my favourite brand is Columbia.

I currently have two Columbia jackets; a warm winter one perfect for those -40C days (yes, I said -40C. Welcome to Canada) and a lightweight waterproof rain coat. The raincoat is perfect for travel because it folds up into its own pocket, is lightweight, breathable, and most importantly: it is waterproof.

Best Anti-Theft Pieces for Curvy Women

As a solo female traveller, I think that Clever Travel Companion is one of the coolest clothing lines out there. Their products; which range from underwear to pants to tank tops to hoodies, are all pickpocket proof. Secret pockets that are perfect for cash, passport, and banking cards keep your important items safe and concealed.

While the colours and designs may be plain and simple, the designs are flattering. I tried out their travel tank with 2 secret pockets a couple years ago and it’s now a staple in my luggage. Check out my review for it here .

Not sure what you mean? I just checked them all and the only thing currently unavailable is the Lululemon leggings I recommend. I’ve been keeping an eye on them since Christmas and I’m not sure if they are just out of stock or being discontinued. I have ordered a new style to try and it should be coming next week- will share if I love them. But everything else I’ve listed is available.

some really great suggestions here Hannah. I split my (only pair) trousers on our trip to Australia. Couldn’t face trying to replace them to patch job and how for the best. Can’t predict all drama when travelling!

How do you find the Cherry Velvet dresses, in terms of wrinkling? I have four or five of them, but hadn’t really thought about taking them travelling, as I thought that they’d just wrinkle up, and I usually stay in hostels that don’t have irons readily available!!

I find if I hang my cherry velvet dresses over a door or in a closet it helps get the wrinkles out. Can also hang it in the bathroom when you shower- the steam will help 🙂

I love Eddie Bauer’s Girl on the Go insulated trench. It stands up to all sorts of weather. I’ve worn it in pouring rain in summer without the lining and stayed dry, and in the snow and wind in winter with the lining and have stayed warm. It’s low profile enough for city travel.

Thanks for these ideas. One cmpany I like for clothing is Blue Sky. Available online or in person in BC, this company makes bamboo clothing in real people sizes. I especially like their skort which is knee length with pockets. It can be dressed up or down. My travel wardrobe is almost 100% Blue Sky.

Please expand to include those of us above 24/3X. I’m glad the industry is starting to be more inclusive, but apparently they think travel and life stops at size 22/24. It’s even worse if you happen to be short (like me) or tall.

Some brands on this list to go to larger sizes but, agree, the sad fact is a lot of brands don’t. I continue to update this list as I can to be inclusive but I also focus on highlighting brands that I know and use and trust. I don’t just list random brands because they offer certain sizes.

When you order to Canada and have delivered by DHL do you get a charge from them to clear customs plus the customs cost? When I looked it up, it looked like a 13% customs fee. yes the shipping and duty can be brutal. I try to keep anything purchased from abroad under $100 to avoid the duty fees!

My go to is Dessee brand (Penningtons carries them). They have a convertible bra that works really well for me. I usually go strapless under my thin-strapped dresses.

What to wear in Canada: Packing List for Canada

Canada is very welcoming, and there are no specific dress codes for any place. The dressing is very casual, and you will find people wearing athleisure clothing when they are out and about. If you know me in person, you will see me wearing Lululemon leggings and my denim jacket (sometimes with a scarf!). 

Hoodies and jeans are very common, so are shorts and comfy hiking sandals in the summer months. 

At a workplace, or formal event you can opt for semi-casual, or business casuals to fit the mood and location. This can be a nice black dress with heels, minimal makeup, and jewelry. 

When our parents visit from India, they are equally comfortable wearing traditional Indian Wear without raising any eyebrows. So the main thing to keep in mind when packing for Canada is to be mindful of the weather and temperatures and dress appropriately. 

Certain places in Canada are super cold with dry winds and some are rainy/gloomy – your outfits will be different for each destination. In the same way, if you are heading for a hike, or planning to snowshoe your packing list will vary. 

In this Canada packing list, we will cover all the seasons and also include important tips!

Seasons in Canada: 

• Spring : March 1 to May 31
• Summer: June 1 to August 31
• Fall or Autumn: September 1 to November 30
• Winter: December 1 to February 28 

Packing list for Canada in the summer

Summer months are from June to August in Canada. During this time, the temperatures are warm, days are longer and you will find plenty of picnic spots and festivals to enjoy the lovely weather and the outdoors. 

Here is what you need to pack for Canada in summers,

Tops (blouses, shirts)

You will need to pack a couple of light tops or flowy blouses for summer in Canadian cities. They are perfect for sightseeing, tours and they also help you look great in Instagrammable shots!

If you are planning to hit the trails opt for moisture-wicking tops – we recommend bringing in one half and one long sleeve t-shirt. In certain parks, mosquitoes are common (like Saskatchewan) and long sleeves will protect you from bites and UV rays! 

Bottoms (trousers, pants, shorts, leggings)

Pair your pretty blouses with fitted jeans, and a nice belt! Jeans, cotton pants or trousers are great for summer sightseeing. 

You will also find locals wearing capris, and cotton shorts, enjoying the warm summer days. 

For hikes and outdoor activities, you can wear shorts and leggings.  I LOVE my Lululemon leggings!

Dresses, skirts, jumpsuits 

I am not a ‘shorts’ person, so when I am out and about dresses and skirts are my go-to. You can bring your prettiest lightweight dresses, and pair them with comfortable sandals to enjoy walking around in downtown areas, go museum hopping or explore outdoor museums! 

Short dresses made of moisture-wicking material are great for short hikes and strolls in cities, parks, and road trips!

Whether you are enjoying a hike in Banff National Park or wandering Gastown in Vancouver , a lightweight waterproof jacket is handy all year round. I like this Marmot minimalist jacket in black for travel and everyday use!

You can also bring in a windbreaker (that is made of waterproof material) and use it to layer on over your tops/shirts when needed. 

Light cardigan or hoodie 

Unless your jacket has light insulation, we recommend bringing in a cardigan, just in case.

When our friends and family visit us from Asia and Europe, they are usually cold in the evening (in Canadian summers). This might be due to winds, a drop in temperature at night, or in destinations up north and high altitudes! 

So, do carry a light cardigan, or a hoodie. A hoodie is a sweatshirt with a hood . They are warm with a thin fleece lining (just like a sweatshirt and most hoodies will also have deep pockets). 

When we are heading to national parks or road tripping in Canada , we always pack a hoodie with us! Here is my favorite scuba hoodie from Lululemon

For all practical purposes, a pair of comfortable hiking shoes is all you need to enjoy Canadian cities and parks alike. 

If wearing a dress, white shoes look the best. And they also go well with hiking clothes. Brands like Nike , KEEN , Merell and Reebok are our favorites for casual and hiking shoes.

When at the beach, flip-flops are great. If you wish to add a second pair of shoes to your Canada packing list, you can opt for a hiking sandal or flats (like these ones from TEVA) for summers – they are great for city-hopping, road trips, etc. 

Pack a few moisture-wicking socks for your hiking shoes. These socks will help prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi when you are out and about touring a city, or on day-long hikes. 

You can buy socks like this one , and they also reduce the risk of blisters and sores.  These are a must-have for those planning to hit the trails in Canada on a regular basis.

Whether you are chilling at a resort or an Airbnb , pack a couple of loungewear for the duration of your trip!

Additional items : Pack a cute swimsuit if you are booking a hotel with a swimming pool or planning to relax in a hot spring or thermal spa!

What to wear in Canada in winter: Canada winter packing list

Winters in Canada are anything, but boring. And we love everything about it – the snow, warm cocoa, bright scarves, and festive decor! 

Just imagine – the view of snowy landscapes from hotel (or apartment) windows, or on road trips awaiting you!  

Canada is home to world-class skiing resorts, with miles of snowshoeing trails and frozen landscapes for you to marvel and enjoy! 

Watch out for destinations like Whistler, Banff, Lake Louise Ski Resort , or Revelstoke on the west coast to Mont Tremblant Ski Resort in the east. 

Not into winter sports? You can still have a great time checking out Christmas festivities in places like Quebec City, Vancouver , Toronto and Charlottetown! 

Canada in winter is BLISS! And you can enjoy Canadian winters too, just ensure you pack the right clothes. 

Thermal wear or long johns – Baselayer

I often get asked how I am posing for Instagram photos in the winter, smiling without a care in the world. Well, I am wearing SUPER warm thermal wear underneath!

Layering is important for winters, and your long johns/thermal wear is your base layer. So I wear a thermal top , and a thermal bottom underneath my jeans, or double up with leggings. 

When participating in outdoorsy activities like skiing, you do need to layer on with ski pants.

Hoodie, sweater or a fleece jacket – Midlayer 

After your base layer, you must wear a mid-layer, like a hoodie , sweater, or fleece jacket.

Waterproof warm parka or winter coat – Outer layer

Wear outerwear like a warm parka or a wool coat with waterproof coating. Ensure it is waterproof, this is 100% important! 

Wool coats are a good option for indoor sightseeing, or on early winter days, but in the thick of the cold-weather season, you do need a power parka. 

Parkas are equipped with a waterproof material, have deep pockets (interiors and outside), and a hood. 

Hoods also come with fur trim, and this saves your pretty face from snowy elements. Cuffs also keep you warm, by not letting the cold air sweep in. 

Here are my favorite outerwear winter clothes from The North Face and Lululemon . 

Snow pants 

For the most part in cities, you can get by with a pair of jeans and fleece lined leggings, but to enjoy winters outdoors, you may want to add a snow pant to your Canada winter packing list.  

Snow pants provide you with the most warmth, and they are more durable, and breathable when you are active. You can layer snow pants with leggings underneath them.  Get this snow pant from The North Face here

A nice warm scarf can instantly brighten your outfits, and also keep you nice and toasty.

Choose infinity scarves that are super warm covering your ears and neck.  Rectangle scarves are also great to pull an outfit together, especially if you are wearing an all-black parka with boots. 

You do need a pair of warm gloves to protect your fingers against the harsh winter elements. It might be an easy Canada packing list item, but it is often missed (and many times lost), especially if you are not used to the cold weather. 

So yeah, you need warm gloves, preferably something with tech fingers so that you can use your smartphone or tablet with ease!

We recommend packing 2 pairs, and when you are out and about ensure you keep them inside your jacket pocket or purse so that you won’t lose them 🙂

A toque, a beanie, a warm cap/hat, are all the same item, eh! I LOVE  a nice warm beanie – just like a scarf, they can instantly make your outfit all adorable and snow-worthy! 

Pack 3-4 beanies in different colors, with and without pom-pom, and wear them to spice up your winter clothing.

Warm socks 

In the winters, pack a mix of moisture-wicking and merino wool-based socks . You do need thick socks to wear underneath your winter boots to keep you warm especially when you are outdoors for prolonged hours!

Winter or snow boots

Over the years, we have tried a lot of winter boot brands, from one available in Walmart to SportCheck (similar to REI in the USA) and reputable brands, and let me tell you get what you pay for. 

Do invest in a good pair of sturdy winter boots. Here is what you need to look for 

• ankle-length is better to layer on
• choose a pair with insulation like fleece (look for signs that say “up to -30 degrees”, etc. citing the cold threshold)
• pay attention to the outsole, ensure it gives you a good grip to walk on icy surfaces (parking lots, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, etc.)
• carry your warmest socks to the store when you are trying out boots!
• Our favorite picks : The North Face , Sorel , UGG , Timbaland (my new favorite)

Canada Packing list for spring and fall

Spring months in Canada are from March through May. In March, we do spring forward (we lose an hour due to daylight savings) and days are slowly warmer, and everywhere there is slush – with the snow melting! 

For most places, March is still fairly cold , and if you are new to the country you might feel the need to layer on, and that’s okay. So bring your winter goodies like a warm sweater, socks, beanie/toque, scarf, and of course a jacket. 

April and May are warmer, and now you can surely leave your winter parka, gloves, and beanies at home. Packing a sweater and a scarf is still a good idea!

September to November are the fall or autumn months in Canada, oh and it’s our absolute favorite! From the smell of apple cinnamon to pumpkin spice lattes – fall in Canada is delightful! 

September for the most part remains warm, with temperature drops in the evenings and early mornings. A waterproof jacket or a cardigan is handy during this time. Throw in a scarf too!

October and November weather is pretty crisp and chilly. Prepare for shorter days, and cooler temperatures – and do bring in your winter wear (jacket, thermals, scarves, beanie, sweater, socks, and boots).

In the early fall months, you can wear stylish ankle-length booties. Late October to November calls for warmer winter boots as many cities and parks will experience colder temperatures with snowfall. So prepare like you would for a winter trip!

• Bottoms (leggings)
• Light cardigan or fleece jacket
• Thermal wear or Long johns (early spring and late fall): Bottom and top
• Warm parka (early spring and late fall)
• Scarves (early spring and late fall)
• Gloves (late fall)
• Warm toque (early spring and late fall)
• Warm socks  
• Winter boots (late fall)
• Cute ankle-length booties (fall)
• Toiletries (sunscreen, cold cream or moisturizer, etc.) 

Miscellaneous items to pack for Canada

Other than the clothing items, you will also need some additional things as you travel from the east coast to the west coast of Canada.

For hiking and camping, 

• Water bottle : Bring a water bottle for use on hikes, and day-long sightseeing excursions or road trips!
• First aid : Another important travel essential when you go camping, hiking, fishing, or just out and about 
• Also, add bug spray, bear spray, mosquito repellent 

For skiing, 

• Ski socks : Pack smart wool based ski socks
• Face mask, or balaclava , and goggles for protection

*We recommend that you rent ski gear when visiting in the winters. 

Packing cubes: We absolutely love using packing cubes to organize and store our clothes, cosmetics, and other travel essentials. Traveling light also allows you to start exploring as soon as you land in a new city/destination. Doesn’t matter if you use a suitcase or a backpack like us, packing cubes are a must!

Electronics to pack for Canada

We have compiled all the electronic items for your Canada packing list below,

• Adapter: Canada uses two associated plug types – A and B. Plug type A has two flat parallel pins and B has two flat parallel pins and a grounding pin. It also operates on a 120V supply voltage and 60Hz. So when traveling from the UK, EU or India, you will need to use a convertor and adapter duo to charge electronics in Canada. 
• Multi-port charging cable: This is our favorite travel accessory – a multi port charging cable to charge our iphones, Kindle and camera! One cable is enough for all of our electronics, plus it isn’t expensive. Check out this cable here
• Power bank: Get a solar powered bank to charge your phone and camera on the go (hikes, sightseeing tours, etc). Buy yours here
• Noise cancelling headphones: Our favorite ones from Bose
• Camera gear: We carry our Sony a6000 and Sony a7III on all of our trips! Don’t forget to pack yours!

What to pack for Canada: Toiletries 

When it comes to toiletries, these are our absolute must-haves for travel

• Moisturiser
• Body lotion
• Deodorant and/or perfume
• Facial wash
• Toothbrush and toothpaste
• Lady products
• Medications with a first aid kit

What to pack for Canada: Travel Documents

We have compiled all the essential items for travel in this section below. If you are visiting Canada for the first time, you will find this information useful. 

Tourist visa: Most countries like the USA, EU members, Australia and New Zealand do not require a tourist visa to enter Canada. You need to apply for an Electronic travel authorization (ETA) prior to arriving here. ETA is not a visa and takes less than a day to process online.

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals traveling to Canada by air. – Canada.ca

For non-visa-exempt passport holders, a Canada Tourist Visa is required. You will have to apply for it prior to your trip and from your home country. 

Depending on your departure country, it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a month and it requires you to submit your rough Canada itinerary, financials, your hotel/accommodation for the duration of your trip, and local contact information. 

Typically visas are given for 10 years (or until your passport expires. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months when you apply). You can stay in Canada for a maximum of 6 months at a stretch on a tourist visa unless there are any restrictions as outlined for your situation. 

Travel Insurance: For your visa approval, and otherwise, travel insurance is important. This document will protect against medical emergency-related expenses, or in the event of baggage loss or flight delays. 

Cash and credit card: Canada uses Canadian dollars. Cash and credit cards are widely accepted everywhere. Some restaurants and stores may accept USD in certain cities. 

Other documents : Do save a copy of all of your hotel bookings, tours, and other related activities. Don’t forget your driver’s license too!

Pack for the Weather

• The Winter months – December, January, February and March – are absolutely freezing,  so layer up . If you don't, you'll find that your skin really does shrivel up and fall off.

It's important that you get soft rubber soles because even medium soles get really hard in the freezing cold. • Everything's easy to buy ,   so don't take up valuable packing space with regular cosmetics, medicines, books or the like. Buy them there.

I have an awesome pair of black jeans but they do have a rip in the knee. Are Italians wearing ripped jeans??

Women of all ages and all walks of life travel with us (our average age range is about 50 to 70 but everyone is welcome.) Our travellers enjoy the safety of a group and the relaxed atmosphere of a women’s only tour. They enjoy making new friends, having new experiences and traveling in a comfortable and relaxed environment where every detail is already thought of.

We are from Canada, United States and some foreign countries. This is a multi-ethnic group of women coming together to share a travel experience catering to their individual desire.

When I was in high school and college, the only reason I wore loungewear (a.k.a. sweatpants that said "Pink" ) to class was because I was sick that day. It wasn't until post-grad life that I discovered women's joggers and matching loungewear sets that are not only comfortable, but also made me feel put together. That's why I teamed up with our experts to find the best women's loungewear .

In the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles, Paper and Apparel Lab, our pros have evaluated every category of comfortable clothing from the best leggings to the best silk pajamas and flannel pjs . When researching the best loungewear , we scoured popular online clothing stores that we have previously evaluated in the Lab and that consumer testers have tried to find the coziest and most fashionable sets and separates. We also tapped GH staffers for their personal favorites and looked at the best-sellers that shoppers love. You may even want to round off your loungewear picks with a pair of fuzzy socks .

Vuori Performance Jogger

We are often testing loungewear and athleisure clothing from Vuori in the Lab and among consumer testers. In Lab testing, the fabric held up after repeated wears and washes. We also found the pants made of polyester and elastane to be soft and lightweight enough for year-round use. GH analysts reported the joggers drape in a flattering way and are stretchy and comfortable. You can choose from over a dozen colors.

Hanes Women's Ecosmart V-Notch Crewneck Sweatshirt

The price is right and so is the quality of this Hanes sweatshirt. In fact, the affordable brand consistently outperforms more expensive styles in Lab testing. Plus, this crewneck in particular has over 40,000 five-star Amazon reviews with a few satisfied shoppers returning to buy seconds. The cotton-and-polyester sweatshirt is soft and comfortable and our staffers appreciate the fleece lining come winter.

Eberjey Women's Gisele Two-piece Long Sleeve & Pant Pj Pajama Set

We've included Eberjy Pajamas in multiple shopping guides over the years and are here to report they are some of the best Pjs we've tried. This buttery soft set made of Tencel and spandex is designed to avoid creases and shrinkage , according to the brand. We like that it's made from heavyweight cotton-polyester fabric and has a slouchy, on-trend neckline. "This is the comfiest half-zip ever. I own it in multiple colors," wrote one satisfied A&F shopper.

Universal Standard UltimateS Dolci TopPetal Purple

Available in six colors, sizes from 4XS (00/0) to 4XL (38/40), and both short or long sleeves, this top is super soft and features an off-the-shoulder neckline that's easy-breezy. You can also pair the cotton-Modal blend top with the matching UltimateS Mola Lounge Pants for a complete set.

Gap Vintage Soft Zip Hoodie

Gap is a staple brand for GH editors who love its classic wardrobe staples like this hoodie. Pair this cotton-polyester sweatshirt with its matching joggers or wide leg sweatpants .

Uniqlo Washable Knit Ribbed Pants

Uniqlo is another editor-favorite brand that our pros often recommend because it offers affordable prices without compromising on quality. In fact, Textiles, Paper & Apparel Lab Product Analyst Grace Wu reported her Uniqlo loungewear has held up really well over the years.

Made of a machine-washable rayon blend, these ribbed pants feature two side pockets and an adjustable drawstring. For around $30, these are a steal but note that a few colors are currently out of stock. You can also shop the matching Knit Ribber Camisole (currently low in stock). The set or each piece on its own offers an elevated comfy outfit for long plane, train or car rides.

Champion Women's Lightweight Lounge Pant

You may be familiar with Champion's sweatshirts, but we're here to say its loungewear bottoms are just as comfortable. The cotton-blend material is lightweight and comfortable on the skin. These bottoms have over 12,000 five-star reviews on Amazon that confirm its comfy fit — even for working out. Our style pros like the straight-leg design as well, but agreed with some customers who suggested that side pockets would be a convenient touch.

Alo Yoga Muse Hoodie

Our pros highlight Alo Yoga's Muse line in our guide to the best women's hoodies because we found it to be an exception when it comes to ribbed sweatshirts, which can often cling to your body. Instead, this polyester-blend hoodie has a more structured texture and is a go-to for GH experts. One wears it almost every night and reported she has observed minimal pilling even after washing it dozens of times.

Quince SuperSoft Fleece Wide Leg Pants

If you, like me, put on your favorite sweatpants when you're feeling lazy, consider these wide-leg pants that up the cozy factor. During Lab testing, we found the Tencel-blend pants to be soft and appreciated the fleece lining. Even if you wear these cropped pants on a cool day, the lining will help keep you warm even if the wind picks up.

Lululemon Align High-Rise Pant 28"

Even though leggings better align with athleisure, who says you can't wear your favorite pair to lounge around your home or go grocery shopping? Not us. In fact, one GH expert owns four pairs of these leggings and rotates each one for a go-to airport outfit. They're fitted (obviously) yet flexible so you can feel comfortable moving at a yoga class or into a different position on the couch without feeling restricted. Our style pros say you can pair these leggings with the brand's new line of Scuba Hoodies and Sweatshirts .

Spanx AirEssentials Half Zip

You may know Spanx for its top-selling shapewear that also performs well in our Lab. But you can shop more clothing staples at Spanx from jeans to loungewear. Its AirEssentials collection in particular is unique because it looks like structured neoprene but feels cloud-like against your body. GH staffers live in this line when working at home or traveling, although they note the fabric can attract loose fibers. Pair the half-zip with the matching Wide Leg Pant .

OFFLINE By Aerie Real Me High Waisted Crossover Flare Legging

I have owned many flared yoga pants that fell a tad too short, but that's not the case with Aerie's OFFLINE collection, which offers long sizing (as well as short). I own these leggings in two colors and find the crossover waist super flattering. They also have a 4.7-star rating online with over 5,300 reviews.

If you want a similar style without the crossover waist, Assistant Commerce Editor Isabella Cavallo said Aerie's Xtra Bootcut Leggin g "are the best pants I've ever worn."

Girlfriend Collective Route Luxe Wide Leg Pant

Sweatpants aren't my go-to loungewear, but that perspective changed when I tried the 50/50 Classic Jogger by Girlfriend Collective. Needless to say, I now own two pairs as well as other athletic clothing from the brand. These pants up the game even further, combining an elevated wide leg with a high-waisted fit and front pleats. One reviewer who gave them five stars wrote, "The only bad thing about these pants is that I can't wear them every day. Or can I...?"

Pact Women's Cool Stretch Lounge Short Set

If you run hot, our textiles pros recommend trying cooling pajamas that are designed to help regulate your temperature. This matching set of a lounge tank and shorts are made from soft, breathable cotton that have side vents to keep you cool and comfortable. The cropped tank is on trend and could be paired with any bottom, while the shorts have a mid-rise and a drawcord for adjustability. Pact is also a sustainable brand that partners with Fair Trade- certified factories and strives to offset its carbon footprint.

SUPESU Women's Oversized Crewneck

There is something about cuddling up in an oversize sweatshirt. Our testers found this crewneck felt high quality, although they noted its plush fleece lining wore down when washed often. Still, the faux-fur-like lining will keep you warm on a crisp fall day and we like that it features hidden pockets. Multiple five-star reviews highlighted the pockets and wrote that they refused to take this crew off it's that comfortable.

Outdoor Voices Nimbus Crewneck

I have only owned bottoms from Outdoor Voices, but I'm tempted to try out this crewneck that's made from heavyweight cotton and has a fleece-like lining. Online shoppers reported the sweatshirt runs true to size but the brand recommends sizing down if you want a snugger fit. Alternatively, one happy shopper bought a size up to turn this crew into an oversize sweatshirt. Note that some colors are sold out in particular sizes, so if you're on the fence about ordering the Nimbus Crewneck, we recommend you act fast.

Madewell Superbrushed Pull-On Jumpsuit

Madewell has its own loungewear line called MWL that has everything from loungewear sets to one-pieces like this jumpsuit that's made from recycled polyester. It has a slightly loose fit, perfect for layering and a soft lining. While you can wear this number while hanging out or working at home, our style pros like that it can be dressed up for a coffee date and the like.

One satisfied shopper (who says they never write reviews but had to for this jumpsuit) wrote that this jumpsuit is "so unique and well done" and "would be fantastic for pregnancy and postpartum."

Skims Foldover Pant

Also known for its popular shapewear , Skims has an abundance of clothing and loungewear , that although on the expensive side, can be worth it. While I haven't tried the brand's other clothing, if I could only keep one bra, it would be my Skims T-shirt bra .

These pants have a 4.7-star rating online across over 250 shoppers. It's made from a breathable, lightweight cotton blend and we like that you can adjust the foldover band to fit low or mid rise.

Stars Above Women's Slub Knit Wide-Leg Pants

We've included items from popular Target brands in multiple of our style guides from the best women's white T-shirts to the best loungewear brands . One GH analyst said she gravitates towards her Target pants over more expensive loungewear bottoms she owns.

We like that these pants have a wide-leg silhouette and are made from a midweight polyester-linen blend that has a substantial feel. We do wish that the faux pockets were real, but it's hard to beat the under-$20 price tag.
