Winamax Poker Tour returns to France with free-entry-option live event

The Winamax Poker Tour (WiPT) will be making its long-awaited return to live action in France with a months-long series of stops beginning in late October 2022 that culminates with a €1,000,000 Grand Final at Paris's Grande Halle de la Villette in February 2023. The reborn WiPT France tour will encompass 40 stops in 27 French cities as it builds its way toward the Paris conclusion.

The complex setup under which the 2022-23 WiPT has already begun online, where would-be Grand Final participants have already received the first bottom-tier tickets, called "Starting Blocks", in a steps-based qualifying ladder toward the Paris finale. It's just one of several paths through which Winamax's French players can qualify, though on the opposite end of the scale, players can buy in online directly for the live event, reserving their €500 seats for the Grand Final.

Qualifiers from the early steps in the process will move on to live "Stages" held throughout France, which will serve as the main feeders to the Grand Final. These Stages will be mixed in among the 40 planned stops, with at least 600 players vying for Grand Final seats at each stop. Dates for these Stages haven't been released, but they'll run in the major French cities of Paris (where 2,500 players will vie for Grand Final Seats), Lille (600 players), Strasbourg (600 players), Montpellier (600 players), Lyon (600 players), Rennes (600 players) and Bordeaux (600 players). Seat winners in these stages will join winners from direct online qualifiers in "Classics" events, as the WiPT builds its million-Euro field.

WiPT returns after five-year hiatus

The larger story, however, may be that the WiPT returned at all. First offered in 2011, the WiPT offered its hybrid (and quite popular) online/live series through 2017, when a regulatory crackdown by French authorities against all forms of live poker forced Winamax to withdraw the series until this year. Other online operators who sought to offer live events in the country faced a similar brick wall, while the crackdown also forced several of France's famed live card rooms to cease operations.

The re-launched WiPT, as it appears from information provided on the Winamax Blog, will avoid a possible crackdown by French authorities by ensuring that no entry fees are paid at any of the 40 live stops. While the paid online-entry paths to the Paris Grand Final exist, those will take place only online, while all live seats throughout the nearly-four-month WiPT run will have been previously earned by players.

Winamax referred to the long hiatus euphemistically when announcing the WiPT's return, describing it as a "far too long absence for various well-known reasons." After the original WiPT was pulled, the tour ran briefly in neighboring Spain, another firewalled country where the site is available. The COVID-19 pandemic put a pause to the WiPT Spain offerings as well, though independent WiPT stops returned earlier this year in Spain, Slovakia, and Ireland.

Winamax Poker Tour: the grand finale at Parc Expo, Porte de Versailles

For many years, the Winamax Poker Tour has been a circuit that has enabled numerous amateur poker players to qualify for an exceptional tournament . Since the end of October 2023, some 323,681 players have already tried their luck online at Winamax, including more than 9,000 players who took part in the first 10 qualifying stages organized in 10 French cities - including a kick-off event in Marseille which attracted 1,413 players - with one dream in mind: to secure their ticket to the Paris Grand Final!

More than 2,000 players will gather at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles for the Grand Final, organized in partnership with TexaPoker and Club Circus Paris , from March 11 to 17, 2024! Among them will be the lucky qualifiers from the regional events, as well as those qualified online via satellites organized on Winamax or via live registration . They will challenge, among others, the WIPs (Winamax personalities) and players from Team Pro Winamax. This delocalized tournament also represents a real technical challenge for the Winamax, Texapoker and Club Circus teams, and the atmosphere is truly festive.

The €500 Main Event will offer an exceptional €1 million guarantee! Day 1 runs from Tuesday March 12 to Thursday March 14, before Day 2 on Friday March 15, Day 3 on Saturday March 16 and the final table on Sunday March 17. A great opportunity for online poker players to rediscover the thrill of live poker in a fun-filled atmosphere.

Winamax Announces Three Stop Tour in its Return To Live Poker in 2022

• French online poker giant, Winamax, has announced a tentative live stop schedule for 2022, comprising three stops in three countries.

It is the first time in two years that the operator has scheduled its full suite of live events.

• The schedule’s first stop will be in Madrid, Spain in May, followed by Bratislava, Slovakia in late September, and finally in Dublin, Ireland towards the end of the year.

French online poker giant, Winamax, has announced a tentative live stop schedule for 2022, consisting of three stops in three countries — which puts the schedule in line with pre-pandemic days.

Live poker events are scheduled in Spain, Slovakia, and Ireland and are spread over the course of the year, but detailed information on events remains scant.

The last time Winamax announced a three-stop live tour was back in early 2020 , before the coronavirus caused industry-wide cancellations.

Poker Face is Back! Season 2 of Rian Johnson & Natasha Lyonne's Peacock Series Now Filming

Human lie detector Charlie Cale is coming back!

Writer/director  Rian Johnson 's been quite the busy bee. Less than a month after he began production on his third Knives Out film (officially titled Wake Up Dead Man ), the acclaimed filmmaker has started shooting the sophomore season of Peacock's  Poker Face . He confirmed the development on his Instagram story (via Deadline ) with the image of a clapboard bearing the show's title.

Created by Johnson and inspired by weekly murder mystery shows like  Columbo and Murder, She Wrote , the Emmy Award-winning series stars Russian Doll alum Natasha Lyonne as "human lie detector" Charlie Cale, who travels around the country solving all kinds of wacky mysteries. The Season 1 roster of guest stars included the likes of Benjamin Bratt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jameela Jamil, Tim Blake Nelson, Hong Chau, Simon Helberg, Ron Perlman,  Stephanie Hsu, and more.

"In a way, these type of shows have more in common with sitcoms than they do with Agatha Christie books, in that you’re coming back every week to get a hit of something familiar, to hang out with a character or characters that you like, and to get something new in the same shape that you’re familiar with every single time," Johnson told  Deadline  last year .

Lyonne and Johnson serve as executive producers on the project alongside Ram Bergman, Nena Rodrigue, Iain B. Macdonald, and showrunners Nora and Lila Zuckerman. Maya Rudolph (co-founder of Animal Pictures with Lyonne) and Danielle Renfrew Behrens are co-executive producers. Poker Face received critical acclaim — it currently holds a score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes — and was renewed for a second season ahead of the first season's finale.

Peacock has yet to announce an official premiere date for the second season of  Poker Face , given that filming only just began this week.
