Dodge Journey Trim Levels Explained

You've made the decision that it's time to purchase a crossover SUV. You like the  Dodge Journey , but you're also not quite sure  which of the Dodge Journey trim levels you should choose . Fear not. Although the 2016 Dodge Journey is an excellent choice no matter which trim level you select, we've compiled this brief guide to help you decide.

2016 Canada Value Package or CVP

dodge journey crossroad vs crossroad plus

Seven-passenger seating is available as an option. The CVP isn't smaller than any of its brothers, but two rows of seats are the norm. If you're looking for two rows plus cargo room, this won't be a problem. If you're looking for three rows of seating for seven people, either pick the option or consider the SE Plus.

Journey SE Plus

The  Journey SE Plus  provides some upgrades in comfort as well as seating.  If you're looking to transport people on a regular basis, the vehicle can handle this well with its 2nd row 60/40 tilt 'n slide easy-entry seats and 3rd row 50/50 folding reclining seat system.  It's easy to get into the 3rd row and it can be done from both sides.

You also get amenities like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, illuminated front cup holders to ensure your drink doesn't end up on the floorboard at night, and air conditioning with tri-zone temperature control so third-row passengers are comfortable too. Exterior heated mirrors, LED tail lamps, and deep-tint sunscreen glass also come standard. If your priority is passenger transport, the SE Plus deserves a look.

Dodge Journey SXT: Increased Power and Conveniences

Move over to the  Journey SXT  and the first thing you'll notice is a choice of engines. You can either have the 2.4-litre four-cylinder, or you can select the optional 3.6-litre V-6 with 283 horpower and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Fog lamps, automatic headlights, passenger assist handles, a security alarm, and a 115-volt power outlet are all standard. So are dual bright exhaust tips if you select the V-6, a trip computer with temperature and compass readout, sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an interior observation mirror just in case your passengers might get a bit unruly. If you're looking for increased power and have children to transport, consider the Journey SXT.

The Crossroad FWD: Leather and Comfort at a Reasonable Price

Slide into the cabin of the Crossroad FWD and you'll immediately notice the upgrades. The seats are leather-faced, have Light Slate Grey accent stitching, and sport mesh inserts. You get a power 10-way driver's seat with four-way power lumbar adjust, Dodge's  Uconnect  system multimedia centre with 8.4-inch touchscreen and six speakers, and SiriusXM satellite radio with one-year subscription.

If you need more space, the Crossroad FWD also comes with Flip 'n Stow forward fold-flat front-passenger seat with in-seat storage. Throughout the compartment, Liquid Graphite accents can be seen.

Outside, your  Journey  has been upgraded to 19-inch Hyper Black aluminum wheels. Black headlamp and tail lamp surrounds. A body-colour fascia with Platinum Chrome insert, front and rear aimable LED lamps, and a gloss black grille are all standard equipment. It also comes with a suspension tailored for touring, meaning you and your passengers are cradled as you drive.

Journey Limited: The Word is Luxury

The 3.6-litre V-6 comes standard on the Limited, along with 19-inch aluminum wheels. It comes with a heated steering wheel and heated seats, remote start, quad halogen headlamps, and a rear window wiper-washer.

Both driver and front passenger have LED lamps, and three 12-volt outlets, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror with microphone, and a cargo net.

Options include a Trailer Tow Prep Group if you're looking to transport a trailer or small boat, a Navigation and Back-Up Camera Group if you're looking for additional safety, and a Rear Seat Video Group to keep passengers entertained on long trips. The Limited is for those who need cargo capacity, yet need space for passengers both young and old.

The Journey R/T, R/T Rallye, and Crossroad AWD: Built for Performance

Both the Journey R/T and the R/T Rallye share important characteristics: the V-6 is standard with the six-speed transmission, 19-inch aluminum wheels, and safety features including rear park assist.

But there are some cosmetic and mechanical differences. The R/T's suspension is a performance suspension, while the Rallye version is a high-performance suspension with no side roof rails and crossbars.

dodge journey crossroad vs crossroad plus

The Crossroad AWD

gives you all-wheel drive, keyless entry, remote start, rear park assist, and leather-faced seating. It has platinum chrome side roof rails, body-colour power heated exterior mirrors, and the 3.6-litre V-6 under the hood. If you're looking for top-level comfort combined with horsepower, the Limited should be your choice considering it has almost all the Journey's options as standard.

Of course, reading about the 2016  Dodge Journey  is only part of the puzzle.  Schedule a test drive today  and decide which trim level is right for you. As The Car Connection wrote, "… the Journey is a solid family pick, and one of the least-expensive ways to get a third-row seat.

2019 Dodge Journey Trim Levels with Comparisons & Configurations.

2019 Dodge Journey Trim Levels, Configurations & Comparisons: SE vs Crossroad vs GT

When it comes to cars, James Murdock has the real-world experience to back it up. With an economics degree and over 20 years running the family dealership, he's managed it all - from sales to service and marketing. His role is to provide his expert opinion on vehicle performance and value. He meticulously fact checks all features and data with vehicle manufacturers to ensure the upmost accuracy.

What 2019 Dodge Journey Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

Drivers looking to save some money on their next family vehicle will likely want to give the 2019 Dodge Journey some consideration. It is certainly big enough for the average family, and there are plenty of practical features to be found. Of course, the features you get depend on the trim level you buy and what you choose to add onto it.

Down one trim level from the 2018 line-up, the 2019 Dodge Journey now only comes in three different trims: the SE, Crossroad, and GT. Eliminating a trim level seems to have been done in an effort to focus on improving the standard features found on the other three. For example, tri-zone temperature control, fog lamps, and a restyled rear fascia are all new for the 2019 model year.

This model year, Dodge gives you the choice between having a 2.4-L 4-cylinder engine (which comes standard on the SE and Crossroad trims) or a 3.6-L V6. The V6 can be equipped on any of the three trim levels, but it does come standard on the all-wheel drive variant of the GT. Both engines are pretty powerful, making the 2019 Dodge Journey rather pleasant to drive.

On any trim level, you can select from ten chic color options. This includes the brand new Destroyer Gray hue. 67.6 cubic feet of cargo space is available once you fold the second and third rows of seats down, and they fold down quite flatly. In fact, the whole vehicle is fairly spacious for being an SUV with third-row seating.

As you can see, all of the Journey's trim options have some attractive features. With all of these similarities, how are you supposed to know which trim level is the right one for you? Read through the trim level comparisons in this review, and you might find yourself feeling more confident in your decision.

Compare the 2019 Dodge Journey SE vs Crossroad Trims. What is the difference?

The SE is the 2019 Dodge Journey's base trim level, but it is far from being basic. And the Crossroad is certainly very far from being basic. The standard 2.4-L 4-cylinder engine comes on both trim levels, but the Crossroad gives you the option of equipping the more high-powered 3.6-L V6 that comes standard on the GT. The 2.4-L is matched up with a 4-speed automatic transmission while the 3.6-L gets a 6-speed automatic. Both of these engines are powerful, but the 3.6-L is, of course, the stronger option.

There are some suspension differences between the SE and the Crossroad. The SE comes with a normal duty suspension while the Crossroad gets an upgraded Touring suspension. This provides a slightly more refined ride quality over what you get from the normal duty on the SE. On both trim levels, the front suspension has an independent MacPherson strut, and there is a multi-link independent rear suspension.

On the inside, there are some minor differences worthy of mentioning. For example, the SE has a manual driver's seat height adjuster while the Crossroad comes with a 6-way power adjustable driver seat that has a 4-way power adjustable lumbar setting. As far as the upholstery goes, the SE is adorned with cloth while the Crossroad gets some seriously chic leather with sport mesh inserts. Bucket seats with the leather trim are optional on the Crossroad as well, and low-back bucket seats come standard on all trim levels.

Even if you are buying the 2019 Dodge Journey as simply a functional daily driver, a lot of cushy convenience features get wrapped into the package. Even the SE trim comes with standard dual-zone climate control, an automatically dimming rearview mirror with display, power windows with a one-touch-down feature on the driver's window, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Of course, the Crossroad gets quite a bit more, including tri-zone automatic climate control, a humidity sensor, interior observation mirror, overhead console, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. A heated steering wheel and universal garage door opener are optional features on the Crossroad. Illuminated cup holders also come standard across this year's line-up.

Of course, what many drivers will care about are the infotainment features. Not to worry; Dodge packs a bunch of those into the Journey trims as well. Standard audio and UConnect features on the base SE trim level include a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, a 6-speaker sound system, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, and a remote USB port. You can also opt for UConnect Voice Command with Bluetooth and SiriusXM satellite radio. On the Crossroad, you get upgraded to an 8.4-inch touchscreen with UConnect (UConnect with navigation is optional), a standard one-year subscription to SiriusXM (a five-year one is optional), and an optional Garmin navigation system.

And since safety matters, those features cannot be overlooked. The SE and Crossroad are both equipped with electronic stability control and roll mitigation, keyless entry, keyless go, a rearview camera, a SentryKey anti-theft system, speed control, and traction control. A security alarm comes optional on the Crossroad if you are looking for that extra level of protection from theft. Also, the Crossroad has an optional rear parking assist program that helps drivers back the Journey safely into tight parking spots.

Last, but certainly not least, are the differences in exterior looks. While the SE rides atop 17-inch steel wheels (aluminum is optional), the Crossroad gets upgraded 19-inch black noise aluminum wheels. Automatic headlamps, backup lamps, halogen quad headlamps, and high beam daytime running lamps are all standard exterior equipment as far as lighting goes. However, black headlamp and tail lamp bezels are not available on the SE. The mirrors on the Crossroad include power heating as an extra convenience. Also, the Crossroad gets a special sport treatment with black and platinum chrome, as well as the Crossroad badging slapped onto it.

Compare the 2019 Journey Crossroad vs GT Trims. What is the difference?

The GT trim is where things drastically change on the 2019 Dodge Journey. On the GT, the powerful 3.6-L V6 engine comes standard with the 6-speed automatic transmission. As is the case with the Crossroad, an engine block heater is available as an add-on item. Unlike the Crossroad, however, an engine oil cooler is standard issue. A top-of-the-line high performance suspension is equipped as well.

On the interior of the GT, a 368-watt amplifier helps to enhance sound quality throughout the cabin. The sound system itself comes with six state-of-the-art Alpine speakers and a subwoofer. Like the Crossroad, an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard, as is the Uconnect Voice Command with Bluetooth. Video remote control, a Uconnect system with navigation, and a five-year subscription to SiriusXM radio are all available as options. As far as safety features go, the only significant difference is that the safety alarm that is optional on the Crossroad is standard on the GT. Otherwise, you can expect safety features to remain essentially the same.

In addition to the 12-volt auxiliary power outlet, the GT also comes with a 115-volt auxiliary power outlet, which the Crossroad does not have. It also receives an automatically dimming rearview mirror, dimpled leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a heated steering wheel. The GT receives upgraded leather upholstery with perforated panels on the seats, and the second- and third-row seats can recline and fold as needed.

The exterior of the GT is also somewhat different from that of the Crossroad. Overall, it speaks to more of a luxurious vibe than the sportier Crossroad. The GT has 19-inch painted aluminum wheels, dual bright exhaust tips, a body-colored grille, and Dodge performance body-colored front and rear fascias. Of course, you can tell it is a GT since it has the GT badging. If you plan on doing some towing, you can get a trailer tow with 4-pin connector wiring added on. Like the Crossroad, the GT can tow up to 2,500 pounds, which is decent for its class.

There are a few options groups that are available exclusively on the GT and tend to make it worthy of consideration for purchase. For example, the Blacktop Package adds 19-inch glossy black aluminum wheels, black side roof rails, and gloss-black outer mirrors, fascia applique, and a grille. If you want to get really fancy, the Chrome Appearance Group by Mopar adds stunning chrome trim to the vehicle's exterior.

Final Thoughts

With just three trim options to choose from this model year, selecting the right 2019 Dodge Journey should be relatively simple. While the SE is a solid base trim and the Crossroad provides a nice middle ground, the GT gives a lot of bang for your buck. The standard 3.6-L V6 engine is a must-have for anyone who enjoys a powerful performance.

There are certainly enough standard features that come as options on the lower trims to make buying the GT justifiable. The audio system in the GT is superior to that in the two lower trim levels. Also, the inclusion of the high performance suspension helps to refine the ride quality over what you get on the SE. The Crossroad is a slightly sportier option, but it might not be the most practical.

Still, regardless of trim level, you will be getting something with a lot of interior versatility and options for exterior customization. Just take heed; this is a no-frills, no-nonsense vehicle that really is meant to be a family-oriented daily driver.

R/T vs crossroad

Hi everyone I decided to take the journey after searching for a small 7 passenger.

I like the look of the crossroad with the black wheels and crome roof bar.

My question is what do I get more on the RT?

I'm in middle of ordering one but for some reason I see the RT is sill more expensive even after adding all features to the crossroad

Welcome to the forum. One post is enough.

Lol I didn't really by clicking 3 times it's happening 3 post. Then I couldn't remove it....... Sorry

As far as the "what do I get with the RT" question, check Dodges website and look at the differences between the models.

I'm looking on the Web site there isn't any different in can see. I guess the RT have something more. But maybe I'm ready to give it up for the look of the crossroad.....

What's the price difference? My 2014 R/T Rallye AWD retailed for $31,300 according to the window sticker (I bought it very lightly used and bought it when the dealer was having a sale on bunch of used SUVs). It has red stitched seats and steering wheel, 19" anthracite wheels, body color grille and door handles, R/T sport-tuned suspension, roof rails deleted. Some of these are unique to the Rallye appearance package, including the black headlight buckets.

I bought my Journey because it fit all my needs for an amazing price, and looked cool to boot with the Rallye package. If I was going to order one from the factory, though, I'd get the Crossroad and then look into having the grille blacked out and the chrome-ish trim on the front fascia blacked out as well (not sure if it is already... I just hate the chrome grille on non-Rallye and non-Blacktop Journeys, and the front trim on the Crossroad is awkward to me). I like its wheels the best, and I wish my R/T had the lower side rails and darker tail lights. I might look into adding them down the road.

You must not have looked very hard. From the Dodge website: DJ R/T standard equipment: Included Features ■3.6L V6 24-Valve VVT Engine ■Six-Speed AutoStick Automatic Transmission ■Up to 25 HWY MPG+ ■Unique Monochromatic Exterior Look with Premium 19-Inch Satin Carbon Aluminum Wheels ■Premium Perforated Black Leather Interior with Red Accent Stitching ■Heated Front Seats and a Heated Steering Wheel ■Premium 368-Watt Sound System with Subwoofer Crossroads standard equipment: Included Features ■2.4L I4 DOHC 16-Valve Dual VVT Engine ■Four-Speed AutoStick Automatic Transmission ■Up to 26 HWY MPG+ ■19-Inch Hyper Black Aluminum Wheels and 225/55R19 All-Season Touring Tires ■Leather-Trimmed Seats with Sport Mesh Inserts and Light Slate Gray Accent Stitching ■Black Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel and Shift Knob ■Light Slate Gray Accent Stitching on the Center Console Armrest and Premium Door Panels ■Exclusive Liquid Graphite Accents on the IP, Gauge Cluster, Center Console, Door Pulls and Steering Wheel Click the little ! icon beside the model. Pretty simple.

Sounds like the major differences are visual styling. The V6, 6 speed, and AWD have to be added if they're desired (and I definitely wanted them). R/T guarantees you the mechanical goodies, and gives you a sporty look. Crossroad is optional and gives a different unique look and feel.

A loaded crossroad is the same price as a loaded rt.

I looked at the Canadian dodge.ca web site and it shows in order of trim level the crossroad Awd having a higher starting price then the RT

I think it's more a styling preference at that point.

CrossRoad14,

I like the looks of the Crossroad, I think most buyers will take a step back and decide on appearance as the the R/T is similar in so many ways.

  • 3 weeks later...

I agree, I bought the cross road based on power options and appearance. Over the sxt or rt

dhh3

I think that the sunroof is only available on the R/T. My Crossroad interior seems to be a mix of the R/T and Limited.

For Canada, the sunroof is an available option ($1295) on all 2015 models except CVP/SE PLUS.
