If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know that I have a big collection of vintage travel posters, many of our favorite mountains in Switzerland. I often find these at the cable car ticket offices or nearby gift shops. But you can get many online as well.

Below I’ve highlighted some online shops both in and outside Switzerland where you can buy these travel posters. I’ve also linked to some of my favorite posters at these shops. These posters would be great gifts for anyone in your life that loves Switzerland.

Jungfrau Region posters

Zermatt posters, engadin region posters, ticino posters, gstaad posters, switzerland postcard collections, wallarty shop, modern switzerland posters, zazzle.ch for postcards, amazon sellers, original vintage posters, printing photos.

The Jungfrau.ch website has a few vintage posters including this fantastic one of Schynige Platte , which I bought today, and this Grindelwald poster which is already hanging in my home. Brienzer Rothorn sells a 60x100cm poster, which looks amazing.

Red Bubble sells a wide variety of Zermatt posters, including these two beauties below. Red Bubble isn’t located in Switzerland, so you might get a customs bill if you order over the limit.

The Engadin tourism website has a eShop selling vintage travel posters from the region very inexpensively, only CHF 9. We like these posters of St Moritz and Muottas Muragl .

I love these Ticino posters so much! I’ve put both of these on my wish list for this Christmas. You can easily buy it on the Ticino tourism website , which has several others and postcard versions.

Müller Medien is selling a few Gstaad posters including these two that I like. But first I have to go skiing in Gstaad, then I can justify buying the posters.

We love this postcard book with 40 vintage posters, all from Switzerland. I have many of these hanging up in my home.

This pack Meine Schweiz, Meine Eisenbahn has 100 postcards of Switzerland SBB travel posters (this is an affiliate link) . I already have a lot but I think I’ll have to buy this so I can have the complete collection. Thanks to Kate of Mom in Zurich for the tip.

This Etsy shop has so many Switzerland travel posters , it’s almost unbelievable. I’m so curious how they got the rights to reproduce these. The posters are affordable and they do ship to Switzerland (from Turkey), but you’ll have to probably pay customs.

I put almost CHF 400 of posters in my shopping cart last night but I don’t think I’ll pull the trigger. Here are a few I love: Niesenbahn , Stoos , Lenzerheide , Silvaplana , Elm , Brienzer Rothorn

Some modern artists are creating posters in that retro style. Juniqe is selling this cool poster of Zermatt by Henry Rivers and posters of Zürich and Geneva by Katinka Reinke .

We like this Zermatt poster from NickStudios . It ships from the UK.

Zazzle sells both posters and inexpensive postcard versions of many Switzerland travel posters. You can get the postcards for about CHF 2-3, which means I can buy many more than I can posters. I ordered these last year: Les Diablerets , Monte Generoso , Muottas Muragl . They ok, but honestly, the quality is not amazing. 

Amazon has a bunch of vendors selling travel posters. But the vendors look sketchy to me (new shops, no reviews) so I’m not sure I trust that as a source. Search “vintage travel posters Switzerland” and see for yourself. 

If you are a serious collector, here are a few websites selling original vintage Switzerland travel posters for high prices, from CHF 500 – 4000 or more.

On my Instagram stories, I posted pics of my posters in frames and lots of people asked where I got them. I use the Ribba frames from IKEA , which come with a white mat. I use mostly the 30×40 and 50×60 sizes. You print the photos smaller to fit in the mat (20×30 and 30×40 respectively).

These frames have plastic panes, not glass. This makes them much lighter and therefore easier to hang. But the plastic can easily get scratched. They currently come in white and black. For the birch color, you could get the Hovsta frames .

I used tesa adhesive nails to hang the posters and pics. I recently did an ad for tesa on my social media, but this is not a sponsored post. I just really like the product since it solves the difficulty of drilling holes into the concrete of my rented apartment. You stick an adhesive strip on the wall and press for 5 seconds. Then you apply the plastic nail to the strip and press for 5 seconds. Then you hang up the frame.

Couldn’t be easier. I used the nails that are rated to 1kg but you can get ones that will hold up to 3kg. My walls are slightly textured and it works fine. I tried on my kitchen wall, which is heavily textured and so far, it’s working fine. At the moment, Galaxus is selling multi-packs for a discount .

I also hang our own Swiss mountain pics around the house. Many of you asked where I print these photos. I use Printolino , which is an independent shop near Luzern. They have many different types of paper you can use for prints. I selected the Poster / Fineart-Print option, then the Fotopapier Seidenmatt 240g. The prices are fair and processing/shipping quick.

I love all the detailed information you are posting for family activities and we have tried so many of your suggestions, which saves so much time for our family and results in wonderful family experiences. This article though is a real gem of information as I have been looking around for vintage posters and postcards and could not find someone who loves them as much as I do!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I got already the SBB Historic postcards as Xmas present and I love it. If I may add, one can find nice vintage posters also in the shop of Museum für Gestaltung in Zürich and the shop of Landesmuseum opposite the main train station. Such a great round-up. Thanks for sharing. I’m wondering if you or any of your readers know where to source the metallic decals/stickers that you see on the rear of cars… there’s a Davos one, an Arosa one and others I’ve seen on some trunks. They look vintage and gorgeous in the retro fonts. Can’t seem to find them online.

I LOVE this post! I collect vintage postcards too – and posters when not exorbitantly priced. Chateau du Gruyères had a good range at decent prices in their gift shop when I was there earlier this year. Hornbach has been a great place to find those clip frames in different sizes. The 3 or 4 print frames from Ikea are perfect for postcards. Now just to find enough space to display them all!

Yay! Glad to find another person as obsessed as I am. Thanks for the tips. I have dozens of postcards sitting in boxes, not sure what to do with them. Right now, I just occasionally swap them out with the ones in frames.

Just as pictured. Even better, I asked for it in a larger size (the size of the original poster) and the vendor was able to produce it. Good communication and ready to please. It is now framed and hung, and am most happy. The image was about $39 and the frame about $30; my investigation into this began when I saw an original poster for sale for $1,500, but the original had a bit of wear and damage that is not in this reproduction.

About 150 years ago, foreign guests started coming to Switzerland to recover from lung illnesses in the fresh, dry mountain air and bright sunshine. In the early 20th century it was fashionable for members of English high society to spend their winter holidays in the famous mountain resorts of Switzerland.

Art Deco - Travel

These lithographs from the 1920s and 1930s created by the most renowed poster artists of the time for famous travel resorts such as Klosters, Engelberg, Wengen and Zurich are amont the most rare and impressive Swiss Art Deco posters.

Emil Cardinaux

Emil Cardinaux (1877-1936) was a pioneer of Swiss poster art. He studied in Munich under Franz von Stuck, one of the founders of the Munich Secession. There, he also learned lithography and understood perfectly how to use the technique to produce effective, artistic advertising images. Cardinaux designed more than 130 posters for fashion, consumer goods, cultural events, charities, hotels, transport companies, travel destinations and, later on, political causes. His travel posters are especially striking, as they reflect the artist’s love for the Swiss mountains and his talent for capturing the beauty of his natural surroundings. Today, Cardinaux’s works are highly sought after on the vintage poster market. Many were lithographed on stone at the Wolfensberger printing company in Zurich.
