Things you should know about comedian Trevor Noah ahead of his India debut

trevor noah tour delhi

Listen up, comedy lovers! You’re going to be in for a treat over the next few weeks as Emmy-winning TV host and comedian, Trevor Noah, is debuting in India with his ‘Off The Record’ tour with shows in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. The news has got us grinning like a 10-year-old in a candy store. Noah is bringing his ‘Off The Record’ to Delhi (September 22-24), Bengaluru (September 27-28), and finishing off in Mumbai (September 30-October 1).

For the uninitiated, Noah is a South African comedian, writer, and producer (these are just a few of the feathers in his hat), and is most popularly known for hosting The Daily Show , an American late-night talk show and satirical news programme from 2015-2022. But before you witness his charisma and wit first-hand, here are a few things you should know about Noah.

He is a master storyteller

Through vivid storytelling, Noah paints vibrant pictures of his travels and life experiences, taking his audiences on a laughter tour. He has the ability to seamlessly weave in wordplay with current news and social commentaries. His brand of witty, observational humour combined with his spot-on impressions, leaves a lasting impression on his audience. This intellectual wit comes from his penchant for reading. He has written well-known books such as Born A Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood and Into the Uncut Grass . The cherry on top of this cake is the fact that Noah speaks five languages fluently. From his native tongue Xhosa to German, Zulu, Tswana and, of course, English.

A close bond with India

We are shocked it took so long for Noah to debut in India, considering he often infuses his love for our country with satirical humour that leaves us in splits. His take on historically significant events like the British rule in India and our culinary delights will crack you up and give you some food for thought.

Numerous philanthropic endeavours

Apart from being a world-renowned comedian and host, Noah is known to use his voice to raise awareness and support various causes. From racial justice and education, to healthcare and poverty alleviation (and many more). He is actively empowering people of colour all over the world. His comedy is not just for entertainment, it’s a commentary on all the things that are going wrong in the world.

He has won numerous awards and accolades

Noah is no doubt a man of many talents. He has bagged numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. Most recently, he was awarded the prestigious Dutch Erasmus Prize in 2023 for his exceptional contribution to the humanities and the arts. His work has also been awarded across genres by the NAACP and the Audie Awards by the Audio Publishers Association.

Trevor Noah’s ‘Off the Record – India Tour’ has been produced and promoted by BookMyShow Live, the live entertainment arm of the brand.

Comedian Trevor Noah to make India laugh this September on his Off The Record tour

From pop culture to politics – there’s nary a subject Trevor Noah hasn’t quipped about. The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning comedian – best known as the former host of The Tonight Show – is set to bring this signature sense of humour to India as a part of the Asia leg of his ‘Off The Record’ tour. On the itinerary are seven gigs across Delhi NCR, Bangalore, and Mumbai. Here’s how you can get a front-row seat to the show.

If there’s a witty take on a cultural phenomenon doing the rounds on social media , chances are it’s by Trevor Noah. One of the most popular names in comedy – the South African humorist has produced and starred in about 12 specials, sold out stand-up shows, and written books that flew off the shelves. Needless to say, he’s entertained an entire generation of viewers. Fans across continents have had the opportunity of seeing him in action through his ‘Off The Record’ tour, which kicked off on 20 January 2023 in Atlanta. An exciting pitstop? India – with arenas established across major cities from September through October.

Trevor Noah’s India tour includes Delhi NCR, Bangalore, and Mumbai

Noah’s time in India is courtesy of BookMyShow Live, Black Dog Soda, and Kotak White Credit Card and will mark the kick off of the Asia leg of his tour. Here’s a look at the schedule of his satirical shows:

  • Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Delhi NCR: 22 – 24 September
  • Manpho Convention Centre, Bangalore: 27 – 28 September
  • NSCI Dome, Mumbai: 30 September – 1 October

Post this, he’s slated to head to Dubai. This isn’t Noah’s first rodeo in India, with the comedian often using bits of his experiences travelling across the country to fuel his sets. He has also – on multiple occasions – alluded to his love for Indian food.

World Laughter Day: 10 best comedians to follow for a hearty laugh

Most recently, this included a bit in his show I Wish You Would , where he spoke about ordering it in Scotland. “I love Indian food. Loved it my whole life,” he said. “I always try and find the most authentic Indian restaurant I can find..What I’ll do is I’ll go to a place, and then I’ll ask around. I’ll ask people, like, “Where do you go?” Then like, where the white people tell me, I don’t go there,” he joked.

Pop star Eric Nam drops the deets on his new single ‘House on a Hill’ and India tour

Reflecting on his upcoming shows in the country he stated, “After a lifetime of loving India’s culture, I’m so excited to finally have the privilege of bringing my current stand-up comedy tour to one of the most exciting countries in the world!”

Sales for tickets will go live on 3 August, 2023 at 6:00 pm IST.

Mark Ruffalo Open Up About Hiding Brain Tumour Diagnosis From Wife

Mark Ruffalo has revealed that he found out that he had a brain tumor more than 20 years ago when his wife was nine months pregnant with their first child. He then made a decision to wait until the boy's birth to break the news of his condition. The actor found out he was suffering from a benign vestibular schwannoma in 2001 after he had a dream that he had a brain tumour.

Mark Ruffalo’s wife reacts to the news of brain tumour

While speaking at a podcast, Mark said, “When I told Sunny about it, at first she thought I was joking, and then she just burst into tears and said, 'I always knew you were gonna die young. I was just like, 'I can't,' she's already like, 'Oh God, him again, does everything gotta be about him?' And so I just couldn't.”

Ruffalo further revealed that  a week after their baby was born he had to meet with the neurologist to decide what he was going to do. Ruffalo had no symptoms except for an ear infection before the tumour was diagnosed.

Speaking about the doctor visit, he said, “The nurse calls the doctor up, I could hear them talking in the other room. She comes in, she's kinda like a zombie and she says, 'You have a mass behind your left ear the size of a golf ball, and we don't know what it is. We can't tell until it's biopsied.”

Ruffalo had surgery to remove the tumour.

Ruffalo, along with Robert Downey Jr , recently shed light on the challenges they faced understanding the difficult dialogues of their Marvel characters and sci-fi scenes in the movie. Ruffalo pointed out that portraying the character in MCU films is similar to living in a different world which was “unsuitable” for him. He said, "It was such a different world. They didn’t really cast people like us. I’ll never forget, I was like, ‘I don’t know if I’m right for this.’ And you’re like, ‘Come on, Ruffalo, we got this.’ "

Listen to Story

Trevor Noah shared pictures of his India visit.

After wrapping up his electrifying performances in Mumbai and Delhi, Trevor Noah shared a post about his experience in India with photos of his visit to various places in the country.

The comedian, who is the host of 'The Daily Show', shared glimpses of his trip to the Taj Mahal in Agra. Besides visiting the monuments, he also added some scenes of other places he found fascinating.

He shared a picture of a congested road from old Delhi, a photo of women doing seva at a Gurudwara kitchen and an image of a local Mumbai train station.

The comedian took to x to announce that his show had been called off due to a technical issue..

Trevor Noah kickstarted the Indian leg of his 'Off The Record' tour in Delhi on September 23.

Fans of international comedian Trevor Noah were left disappointed after his show in Bengaluru was cancelled last minute due to 'technical issues'. Several fans on social media complained that the show, which was expected to begin at 7.30 pm on September 27, began nearly 30 minutes late. The show then ended abruptly after many audience members couldn't hear anything because of ''bad acoustics.''

Mr Noah took to his X account on Wednesday evening and expressed his apologies for causing ''inconvenience and disappointment'' to his fans, and also announced that both shows at the Manpho Convention Centre scheduled for September 27 and 28 stood cancelled.

His tweet read, ''Dear Bengaluru India, I was so looking forward to performing in your amazing city but due to technical issues, we've been forced to cancel both shows.

''We tried everything but because the audience can't hear the comedians on stage there's literally no way to do a show. We'll make sure all ticket holders receive a full refund and again I'm so sorry for both the inconvenience and disappointment this has never happened to us before,'' he added.

See the tweet here:

Dear Bengalaru India, I was so looking forward to performing in your amazing city but due to technical issues we've been forced to cancel both shows. We tried everything but because the audience can't hear the comedians on stage there's literally no way to do a show. We'll make… — Trevor Noah (@Trevornoah) September 27, 2023

Fans who had braved the Bengaluru traffic were left fuming after the show got cancelled and blamed the organizers for the mismanagement. Several people complained of parking space issues, poor air conditioning, crowded venue and narrow roads. One user wrote, ''Trevor has been Bangalored, not in a nice way though! The joke is on Silicon City.''

Another commented, ''Had got front row seats for this amazing show because I kinda knew the venue was bad and nothing would be audible at the back. My friends travelling from another part of the country to see this!! This is really sad.'' A third joked, ''Bengaluru wanted to experience Trevor Noah, but Trevor Noah ended up experiencing Bengaluru.''

Many also shared videos from the venue, showing how the comedian had arrived on the stage but left due to audio issues. Others simply voiced their frustration.

Here are some tweets:

Trevor Noah got stuck in Bengaluru Traffic & reached his own show late. People stuck in ORR traffic for 2-3 hours unable to move, sold their tickets on IG/X. Some reached & Trevor cancelled the show cause of bad acoustics. He's probably already writing jokes on BLR's traffic. 😭 pic.twitter.com/ZmM9L2xySu — Waseem ವಸೀಮ್ وسیم (@WazBLR) September 27, 2023
The mood here at #Bangalore 's #manpho convention centre - atleast we saw Trevor. Please come again @Trevornoah https://t.co/XauctpRHsj pic.twitter.com/xgzpYl0mLV — aslesha belliappa (@aslesha1) September 27, 2023
This has to b the shortest performance I have ever paid and braved through Bangalore traffic to watch! Beyond disappointed about @Trevornoah ‘s show getting canned in Bengaluru!! I only have @bookmyshow to blame for their absolutely shoddy job of organising the most basic thngs pic.twitter.com/Q6TaMz2ufv — Aanchal Bhargava (@BhargavaAanchal) September 27, 2023
Joke's on us cause it's nearly 9pm and we're stuck here, w/o #TrevorNoah or sound system or even adequate AC, with some lady who keeps telling us to wait & “enjoy your refreshments” Clearly @BookMyShow doesn't want to commit to refunding 🎟. What a flop fr 😡😡😡 #Bangalore … https://t.co/wMX3LzsEjP — Meghana Srinivas (@Meg_Srinivas) September 27, 2023
It's just not the sound system. The venue was so horrid, seating was cramped, the auditorium was hot. The crowd was whacked out. How can an event of this scale fail so miserably? As my friend eloquently put, came for comedy got tragedy ! #trevornoah in Luru https://t.co/74LU5oz6li — SimpSimplySneha (@navrangnaari) September 27, 2023
Lmao Trevor Noah had to cancel the show because the people couldn't hear him? Isn't that like one thing you need for a stand up comic? The organisers had one job. — Prakriti (@prakritipsy) September 27, 2023
The only joke from Bangalore by @Trevornoah Trevor to the front rows.. "Hey guys, I'll say a joke. You guys pass it on to the back, row by row. " (He was just pissed by this time and it was a joke out of frustration) — /A\ (@ThatRedDeviL) September 27, 2023

Notably, the Emmy-winning comedian kickstarted the Indian leg of his 'Off The Record' tour at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on September 22. He did two more shows in Delhi on September 23, and 24.

Mr Noah was scheduled to perform live at Manpho Convention Centre in Bengaluru on September 27 and 28, and finally at the NSCI Dome in Mumbai on September 30 and October 1.

Excited about the India Tour, Mr Noah previously told ANI, "After a lifetime of loving India's culture, I'm so excited to finally have the privilege of bringing my current stand-up comedy tour to one of the most exciting countries in the world!”
