Tampa now homeports eight vessels from five cruise lines: Offering the variety of 4, 5, 7,   10, 11   and 14-day cruise itineraries.

Carnival Cruise Line

Why choose anywhere but Tampa?

As any itinerary planner knows, cruises provide guests with a unique and wonderful way to explore the world, allowing them to continuously move between beautiful locations and make memories that will last a lifetime. Every port of call on an itinerary plays a vital role in creating an enjoyable cruise experience, but what about the homeport?

Embarkation is as crucial to the overall cruise experience as the ship, its onboard amenities and the itinerary of picturesque ports. A homeport that is easy to navigate, and provides a variety of unique and interesting activities just steps from the ship? Now that’s an attractive prospect for guests. And that’s exactly what cruise operators and their itinerary planners will find at Port Tampa Bay on Florida’s West Coast.

Positive impressions start from the moment the cruise guests arrive at the modern, award-winning Tampa International Airport. The airport is a convenient 15-minute drive from the Channelside District in Downtown Tampa, which enables travellers to get a view of the water and soak up the Florida vibe and sunshine before they arrive at one of the three cruise terminals.

But that’s just the beginning. One of the growing trends both cruise lines and their itinerary planners are seeing is an increase in the number of guests who are interested in extending their cruise by enjoying the pre- and post-cruise activities in the homeport city.

Tampa is ideally suited for catering to this trend, given that it is located between some of the world’s most popular theme parks (including Busch Gardens in Tampa) and acclaimed beaches with crystal-clear waters in the cities of Clearwater and St. Pete Beach. In addition, guests are just steps from the sights, sounds and experiences of Downtown Tampa. The district is a destination in itself, thanks to attractions like the Florida Aquarium, Sparkman Wharf, new shops and restaurants on Water Street, the unique Ybor City (Tampa’s Latin Quarter) and Downtown Tampa’s Riverwalk, which has spectacular views and is close to eateries and nightlife.

Port Tampa Bay and the city’s tight network of forward-thinking tourism organisations work together to provide cruise lines’ itinerary planners with the high-quality services they need to help their guests make the most of these tourist attractions during their time in Tampa. For example, Visit Tampa Bay (the city’s tourism agency) collaborates closely with Port Tampa Bay and Tampa International Airport to assist itinerary planners with transportation options that can handle all sizes of guest groups.

Multiple cruise lines have already reaped the benefits of homeporting their ships at Port Tampa Bay. Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Paradise and Carnival Pride, Royal Caribbean International’s Radiance of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas and Grandeur of the Seas, Celebrity Cruises' Constellation,  Norwegian Cruise Line’s Jade and Margaritaville at Seas' Islander all sail out of the city, enabling cruise travellers to explore multiple destinations across the Caribbean and Central America.

Tampa Cruise Parking Options, Prices, and Maps (Where to Park)

Headed on a cruise from Tampa Bay? If you are driving into the area for your trip, then of course you need somewhere to park your car.

Port of Tampa cruise parking

The good news is that you have plenty of parking options. Whether you want to park right at your ship and pay a little more — or save some serious cash by parking a little further away (and taking a free shuttle) — you’re covered.

And if you plan to stay in the area before your cruise, many Tampa hotels also offer cruise parking packages . These deals allow you to park your car at the hotel while you cruise, in exchange for a night’s stay.

Given the number of options, you might be wondering which parking is right for you. We cover all the details below to help you find the perfect spot to park for your cruise.

Tampa Cruise Parking Options & Prices

Port of Tampa Official Parking The port offers plenty of parking right at the cruise terminals. You have your choice of plenty of spots, two-thirds of which are covered garage parking. (Terminals 2 & 3 are serviced by a garage across the street. Terminal 6 offers an open-air lot at the ship.)

Just as with any other port, you will pay for the convenience of parking right next to the cruise ship. Parking is $15.75 per day. That runs $110.25 for a 7-day cruise.

The port also offers valet parking, which is a good idea for those who have issue walking or simply don’t want to deal with parking themselves. The rate is the same $15 per day, but there is also a $20 convenience fee for a total of $130.25 for a 7-day cruise.

Parking for oversized vehicles (RVs, etc.) is $34.35 per day. The port offers online pre-pay for its lots, which we suggest as it gives you one less thing to worry about once you reach the port. However, if you want to pay at the port, they accept cash, as well as major credit cards (including American Express).

  • Cost: $15.75 per day
  • Distance: At terminal
  • Website:  https://www.porttb.com/parking

241 Car Services This parking lot is almost as close as the official Port of Tampa parking, but at just a fraction of the cost. Rates run just $8.99 per day. In addition, there are some small taxes and fees associated with booking.

The main parking lot is lighted, fenced, and offers overnight security. And even though the lot is very close to the port, a shuttle is offered. We do recommend booking online ahead of time due to the lot’s small size.

  • Cost: $8.99 per day (plus taxes and fees)
  • Distance: 6 blocks (free shuttle provided)
  • Website: 241Parking.com

Park 4 Cruise With plenty of competition between parking lots, that’s been good for consumers. Case in point is this company, which now features two lots (one right across from the terminals, one overflow) that can let you park for as little as $10.50 per day, despite being close to the ships.

The Orange Lot is right across from Terminal 6 and offers you cruise parking for considerably less than the $15.75 you’ll pay just down the road at the official port lots. There is also the Purple Lot in case the Orange Lot gets filled. It’s just slightly farther away, but still just a minute or two via the shuttle to the port. Park 4 Cruise is gated and lit, offers 24-hour security, and a shuttle to your terminal.

If you want to park here, it’s a good idea to reserve a spot ahead of time online as it offers a considerable savings off the drive-up rate.

  • Cost: $10.50 per day (6% sales tax + $4 processing fee)
  • Distance: 4-6 blocks (free shuttle provided)
  • Website:  http://park4cruise.com

Rightway Parking Rightway Parking offers several different options for cruise passengers that range in price from as little as $5.99 per day to $10.99 per day.

The closest lot is a within a short walk to Terminals 2 & 3, right next to the parking garage offered by the Port of Tampa Bay. The lot is gated, fenced, and offers shuttle to the ships if you don’t want to walk. Rates here start at $10.99 per day plus taxes and fees. ( Note that you are charged for the day you leave , so you’ll pay for 8 days of parking for a 7 day cruise.)

However, Rightway also has other lots listed on its site. This includes lots charging as little as $5.99 per day, with a shuttle to the port. There are some lots that are even less but do not include shuttle service.  Just keep in mind these lots aren’t as close and convenient as the $10.99 per day lot.

  • Cost: $10.99 per day (additional taxes and fees)
  • Distance: 1 block (free shuttle provided)
  • Website: https://rightwayparking.com/

Individual Hotels (Tampa Park and Cruise)   If you are staying in the Tampa area, contact your hotel to see if they will allow you to park your car for the length of your cruise. Many hotels cater to cruisers and have special daily parking rates or offer parking packages. If you stay there the night before you cruise, you can then leave your car while you sail. Rates will vary but are generally a sharp discount off the port.

Some example hotels near the port include:

  • Barrymore Hotel
  • Hampton Inn Tampa Downtown Channel District
  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tampa East – Ybor City

You can see our full list of Tampa hotels with cruise parking here .

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I park for my cruise from Tampa? The good news is that with a number of parking lots right near the port, you can find affordable parking and save a bundle of money. The bad news is that so many options it can be a bit overwhelming. So where should you park?

If you simply worry about convenience, you can’t beat the official port parking. Right next to the terminals, you can simply walk to the ship and then walk back when it’s time to go home. If you want to save money, we’d suggest one of the lots along Channelside Drive, right near the port.

What’s the cheapest cruise parking lot? While prices may change, the cheapest lot we found was 241 Car Services. This lot is priced at $9 per day, plus taxes and fees. In all, you’d spend about $75 to park for a week at this lot. That’s among the cheapest parking you’ll find not just in Tampa, but any cruise port in the country.

Is there free parking anywhere? Traditional free parking isn’t available near the port. However, many hotels in the area offer cruise parking specials as a way to attract customers. You simply stay a night and you can get free or discounted parking in addition to the room. For a list of Tampa park and cruise hotels, see our article here .

CRUISES FROM FLORIDA

MEET THE FUNSHINE STATE

BASK IN THE FUN ON FLORIDA CRUISES

People all around the world know Florida because there are few places that do “fun and sun” with quite the flair that this place does. And for all its deserved fame as a vacation destination, the Sunshine State is equally skilled at launching great vacations to other places. So imagine leaving from Florida and cruising to convenient, nearby locations like the Caribbean, The Bahamas… while we’re on the subject, you can even cruise to Mexico from Florida! See what we’re getting at? But if you’re cruising from Florida, 2024 or beyond, make sure to set aside some time to explore what’s good on land.

  • Jacksonville

Port Canaveral

Cruise from spots across florida.

With some of the best cruises from Florida, The Magic City is definitely a top homeport pick! But it’s more than Miami’s proximity to the Caribbean and Bahamas — this is simply a unique destination all its own. There are so many sides to Miami, and you can spend time exploring the city’s varied neighborhoods before or after you cruise. There’s party-ready South Beach, Coral Gables with its Mediterranean style, the spicy Little Havana, and even world-renowned Wynwood — center of street art.

What does it mean to be in the center of everything? When it comes to exploring Florida fun before or after a cruise, if you’re thinking Port Canaveral… you’re right on the mark! For starters, your cruise kicks off on the state’s iconic Space Coast, home to Kennedy Space Center and within reach of the Orlando area’s fun-packed theme parks. This all makes this a great place to launch yours! But Port Canaveral has natural thrills too: an entire coastline of sugary-sand beaches and protected islands for native wildlife.

Tampa’s the kind of place that rewards visitors who take a little time to explore the city before or after they cruise. Try it and you’ll see! Not far from the Gulf Coast you’ll find great shopping, the state aquarium and plenty of local art museums. But that’s before we even get around to talking about the historically Cuban district of Ybor City, with its lively 7th Avenue neighborhood that’s best explored after sundown for Latin-style nightlife.

JACKSONVILLE

Jacksonville is said to be the best of both worlds, with beachfront and urban vistas to explore. But make sure to add a third kind of scenery — a Carnival cruise — to your visit! Before or after you cruise you can enjoy the dining and shopping energy of Jacksonville’s downtown, but know that nature is nearby with the Southbank Riverwalk of the St. Johns River. And if you want to go full-on nature, you’ve got wildlife parks galore and miles of sandy beaches.

Carnival cruise ship returns to Florida after funnel fire

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Carnival cruise ship that caught fire over the weekend safely returned to Florida on Monday.

Video from WESH showed the Carnival Freedom bringing passengers back to Port Canaveral around 7:30 a.m.

The ship’s funnel caught fire off the coast of the Bahamas on Saturday.

“The ship’s fire response team was quickly activated, and the ship’s captain also turned the vessel towards the heavy rain in the area to maximize the efforts to put out the flames. Eyewitnesses reported the possibility of a lightning strike and that is being investigated but cannot yet be confirmed,” Carnival told WFLA in a statement on Saturday.

A portion of the funnel fell onto Deck 10. The crew asked passengers to avoid balconies and open decks for safety.

Carnival said two crew members who extinguished the fire were treated for minor smoke inhalation. No guests were injured.

The cruise line had to cancel the Freedom’s next two voyages , departing on March 25 and March 29, out of Port Canaveral.

Guests scheduled for those cruises will be issued a full refund and a future cruise credit, Carnival said.

The ship will go to the Freeport shipyard on Monday to undergo repairs.

For the latest news, weather, sports, and streaming video, head to WFLA.
