10 questions with Ankita, one of Intrepid’s incredible local leaders in India

intrepid travel interview questions

When you’re visiting a new place and you wanna make the most of it, there’s one person you really need by your side.

That person? An Intrepid local leader.

They’re a friend and a translator, a problem solver and that all-important link between traveller and local. And they make your trip that extra bit special.

But what is it like being one? Here to tell you is Ankita Jaiswal , one of Intrepid’s wonderful female leaders in India. We quizzed the Varanasi-born, Delhi-based guide on everything from her favourite trips to India’s hidden gems to essential tips for first-time visitors. Here’s what she said.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and life before Intrepid.

I am 24 years old and a graduate from Delhi University, where I studied media.

Female guide India

In Jaisalmer

It’s my second season with Intrepid. I’m glad that I am associated with such a good name and people. Being the bread winner for my family of 5, I had to take a job in the call centre for my brother’s school fees. I worked my way up to a job at a publication firm and then to a fashion company as a content creator and marketing manager.

…And then the travel bug bit!

I love this job, I have never been this happy before.

What is the best thing about your job?

I could easily say going to new places or visiting different cities every other day, but the best memories I have are of the beautiful souls that I meet in this journey. I look forward to the different people and different conversations.

Female guide India

Beautiful souls, new friends

I don’t like working for Intrepid; I love it. I am saying this because I get to show my country to the world with the principles that Intrepid believes in. We operate responsibly not just in terms of environment but in terms of culture too. I don’t believe in stereotyping India for being poor, I love to showcase the rich history and royalty our country has.

Do you face any obstacles or challenges as a female tour guide?

Being a female tour leader in a male-dominated tourism industry is definitely a challenge, especially in India where gender discrimination has been making news for ages.

India can be confronting sometimes for Indians too! But I question every single thing that puts women in the kitchen and men in the field. Why! I question and question until people have no answer.

There is nothing that men can do and women can’t.

I feel super happy and proud to have been a part of Intrepid involving women in the tourism industry and supporting them every step of the way.

What are your 3 favourite Intrepid trips to lead, and why?

Classic Rajasthan  – From enjoying a stay in a castle to a tiger safari in Ranthambore National Park to enjoying sunset by the lake in the most romantic city of India, Udaipur, this trip has it all.

Delhi to Kathmandu  – I love this trip for its offbeat places like Orchha and also for the experience of sailing down the Ganges. I also love the spiritual vibe of Varanasi and the calmness of Nepal.

Indian Getaway  – This trip covers the important cities of India, from the busy life of Delhi to the royal architecture of Jaipur to Agra, where you can admire the beauty of the Taj.

What dish is a must-try for visitors to India?

An Indian vegetarian thali is a must. It’s a platter with many portions of veggies and lentils and more. Sometimes finishing it is a task.

What places in India don’t many travellers visit, but should?

Orchha – There aren’t many foreigners exploring Orchha, mostly just Intrepid groups. I love it for its slow pace, rustic vibe and nice people.

READ MORE: WHY ORCHHA IS AN UNDERRATED ADDITION TO ANY INDIA TRIP

Shimla – It was known as the ‘Summer Capital’ of British India; it has wonderful mountains and architecture.

Bundi – Known as the ‘mini blue city of India’, it’s not touristy, and the abandoned fort, markets and chai are a highlight for many travellers.

With one of my Intrepid groups

What is your favourite city in India – and why?

Udaipur. I know I am being touristy but I can’t help loving the beauty of this city!

I say, if you have seen a sunset in Udaipur, you have seen a sunset in India. The city is so beautiful with man-made lakes surrounded by hills with pretty cafes and royal history.

What is your favourite destination for nature in India – and why?

Kerala. God’s own country has to be my favorite for being so lush green, surrounded by cliffs, beaches and waterfalls. I could settle down there, it is that pretty.

Female guide India

Rishikesh is another great destination for nature

What are your tips for first-time travelers to India?

For first-time travellers, my first suggestion is to have no expectations, then India will amaze you in a good way. There is a beauty in chaos here, everything runs on Indian Standard Time – so traffic, train delays, and big crowds are all common scenarios.

Locals are very friendly here but if it’s your first time in India, take a guided tour – India can be tricky sometimes.

Enjoy the flavours of the food in India, but know that sometimes the street food doesn’t suit the immune system of foreigners. So be careful and avoid food that isn’t recommended by your local leader.

"She's fine": Trump brushes off questions about Melania during "Fox & Friends" interview

In a pre-taped interview, trump spoke at length about his trial but clammed up when asked about his absent wife, by nandika chatterjee.

In a pre-taped interview which aired Sunday on Fox News ' "Fox & Friends,"  Donald Trump  seemed to shrug off the possibility that his July 11 sentencing could land him in prison.

Painting himself as a hero who is fighting for the Constitution, freedom and his country, he railed against the Biden administration — as well as  the justice system, or anyone else he views as an enemy — and he didn't pull any punches, per usual.

“These people are sick,” he told the hosts. “They’re deranged.” Going on to claim that while the enemies from the outside are Russia and China — adversaries who he adds are “quite easily handled” if the president is “smart” — the enemy from within is far worse.

“They [seemingly the Biden administration] are doing damage to this country,” he said with a disapproving shake of the head. “They want to open borders, they want high interest rates, they now want to quadruple your taxes.”

In terms of the hush money trial that found him guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records, Trump called the Manhattan courthouse a “tough venue,” as if he were a singer who had simply lost the interest of his adoring fans, and not the first former American president to be convicted of felony crimes.

He blamed the inescapable “venue," New York — where “Republicans, not just [him], get virtually no votes” — and Judge Juan Merchan   — who he continuously calls corrupt — for the verdict. One of the hosts pointed out that the former president had earlier said that the “venue” was one where even Mother Teresa couldn't be acquitted.

Always managing to slip in a brag or two, Trump beamingly announced that, despite everything, “the poll numbers have gone up substantially” after the verdict, which is something he claims he can’t explain.

When asked about the effect of his work on his family, Trump quickly brushed off questions pertaining to his wife,  Melania Trump , who was nowhere to be seen during the six-week-long court proceedings.

“I have a wonderful wife who has to listen to this stuff all the time,” he said. “She’s fine. I think it’s very tough on her, but she’s fine.”

The former president had a lot more to say about his 18-year-old son, Barron Trump , who was only a few months old when Trump allegedly cheated on his wife with Stormy Daniels.

“He’s amazing, actually, in a certain way. He’s a tall, good looking guy. He’s a very good student. And he’s applied to colleges and gets into everywhere,” Trump gushed. “You know, he’s very sought after. He’s a very smart guy. Very tall guy. And he’s a great kid. He’s cool.”

'Heavily edited' Trump interview on Fox has internet 'very curious what they edited out'

'Heavily edited' Trump interview on Fox has internet 'very curious what they edited out'

Donald Trump was featured in an interview published by Fox News on Sunday, but the video seems to be raising more questions than it answers.

Trump was accused of promoting domestic terrorism with one of his answers in the interview with the friendly group from the conservative network. Another answer caused the internet to call the former president out for a lie , and an attorney and radio host to question whether it was a clue to Trump's diminishing mental health.

Independent journalist Aaron Rupar flagged the edits on Sunday.

"Check out the cut here," he wrote on X, former known as Twitter. " Trump 's interview on Fox & Friends was clearly heavily edited."

@Acyn also chimed in, saying that "Trump’s interview with Fox and Friends is heavily edited for some reason."

"Abrupt cuts while he’s still talking," the user added. "Very curious what they edited out."

Bad Fox Graphics , which purports to provide a "collection of awkward images, clumsy captions, flawed headlines, & memorable moments as seen on the Fox networks," also weighed in.

"W hen you fail to mic the interviewers, this is the crappy audio you get," the account wrote. " Trump should be LIVID about the poor production value of this heavily edited [FOX & Friends Weekend] interview."

Former prosecutor Ron Filipkowski had this to say:

"F ox and Friends has to tape and edit the hell out of Trump ’s interview as usual," he said. "They can’t go live with him anymore because he’s a deranged rambling mess, so they have to clean everything up as best they can with edits."

Should trump be allowed to run for office, marjorie taylor greene to push 'defund new york' plan in wake of trump verdict: report.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has a drastic new idea to get revenge on the state of New York following former President Donald Trump's 34-count felony conviction in Manhattan for falsification of business records.

According to Politico , "Greene is planning to reinvigorate her push to defund special counsel Jack Smith as part of the appropriations process, we’re told — despite Speaker Mike Johnson telling Playbook last month that he thinks the idea is unworkable. But Greene won’t stop there. She’s planning a push to 'defund New York' by blocking the state from receiving any federal funds — including things like education and housing — an effort that could pick up support from MAGA hardliners."

Trump was convicted after prosecutors working for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg successfully argued that the former president illegally concealed the purpose of $130,000 in hush payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, to conceal an extramarital affair during the 2016 election and interfere with the political process.

ALSO READ: ‘Journalistic dystopian nightmare’: Inside a Tennessee college media meltdown

This proposal has no chance of actually passing, the report noted, since Republicans have a razor-thin House majority that in practice needs some Democratic cooperation, and a Democrat from New York controls the Senate. However, Greene "could almost certainly complicate Johnson’s hopes of passing appropriations bills this summer" if he refuses to take this idea seriously.

The former president is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, where Judge Juan Merchan has not ruled out ordering prison time, but could also opt for probation and fines.

Greene, a far-right lawmaker known for pushing conspiracy theories, already has a rocky relationship with Johnson , having called a vote to vacate him from the speakership after they fought over appropriation bills and defense aid to Ukraine. Unlike his predecessor Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted in a similar vote led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Johnson survived this challenge after a number of House Democrats crossed over to vote against the measure.

'They lie!' George Conway knocks CNN's decision to platform MAGA operatives

Trump critic George Conway this week doubled down on his criticisms of CNN for inviting Trump operatives on air and allowing them to spout demonstrable falsehoods about his criminal cases.

Conway late last week sparred with Republican operative Scott Jennings, who contended that Trump's conviction for falsifying business records to cover up hush-money payments to an adult film star was a purely political prosecution.

"This is the problem with the Republican Party: They are suffused with lies," Conway said in response to Jennings . "I don't know why this network is paying Scott to say those lies."

Conway was chided for accusing Jennings of lying on air, but he doubled down on his criticism of the network's decision to bring MAGA operatives on air during a discussion with The New Republic's Greg Sargent .

"Basically, I just called him out," Conway said of his Friday morning encounter with Jennings. "Lies are lies, and I think one of the reasons why... they are able to do this is that the people responding to them are too polite... They're lying! They lie! And that's how bad this is and I finally decided to say it. And the notion that he is doing it as a paid contributor to CNN really gets my goat."

Conway said that he understood the network's reasons for wanting to have guests like Jennings on given that it did not want to only present one side of a controversy, but that this attempt to be fair-minded backfires if such contributors tell demonstrable falsehoods and are not held to account for it.

"I'm not exactly sure what the solution is other than to call it out," he said.

Conway went on to say that Trump allies weren't making good-faith critiques of the American criminal justice system but were rather trying to "destroy the system" for holding Trump accountable for crimes.

'Trump is getting even crazier' – and people inside his campaign know it: Morning Joe

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough reacted to Donald Trump's heavily spliced and edited interview with Fox News, saying his appearance demonstrated that he was increasingly "unmoored from reality."

The former president spoke at length to Will Cain, Pete Hegseth and Rachel Campos-Duffy following his conviction on all 34 felony counts last week in New York, and the "Morning Joe" host was disturbed by what he saw – although he admittedly did not watch the interview as it aired.

"I was not watching because I do my best not to watch live Donald Trump ," Scarborough said. "I will go back, then I'll look at it later or read about it, or any people that are going to spew lies for as long as he did. But I started getting texts from people on the Biden campaign that I know, and they were like, 'Thank God the trial is over, this is the moment we've been waiting for – stay up there, Donald, keep talking, Donald.'"

The former president continues to insist that president Joe Biden has directed his criminal prosecutions, but Scarborough said that notion was ridiculous for a number of reasons.

"Again, the idea that the Biden campaign or Joe Biden wanted Donald Trump locked down for six weeks, not going out, not sounding crazy, not sounding actually a lot crazier than he did four, five years ago, completely takes the wrong view of what's going on here," Scarborough said. "The Biden campaign loved what they saw on Friday, because they know what people on the inside of the Trump campaign know, and that is that Donald Trump is getting even crazier, even -- when I say crazier, I mean angrier, more unmoored from reality, and the one thing he has completely stopped doing is asking, 'Hey, what do you think of this? What do you think of that?' He's just completely raging and on his own."
