Totally Morocco Tour from Casablanca Tour

Totally Morocco Tour from Casablanca

"Our Tour of Morocco was all that we wanted. It was fantastic. Fortunately, our numbers were small (2 of us for the first 3 days then a max of 5). This meant for easy movement/ no holdups. After day 3 thanks to our driver Amin's careful timing and awareness, we often arrived ahead of the large busloads (other tours). Amin was superb: sociable, reliable, careful, great fun with a warm friendly nature. Travelling in Ramadan can have its limitations, but we adjusted. Whereas not all the hotels we stayed in, would have met the requirements of their star ratings elsewhere in the world, on the whole most were good. Some I would not recommend for future use. If you don't mind some days of long hours of being driven (how else would you get to see so much) then this is the Moroccan tour you should go on."

"What a fabulous tour of a spectacular country! A great trip to see the true beauty of Morocco, with so many bucket list experiences along the way. Riding camels to our luxe desert camp was a huge highlight, but the whole tour was amazing. Yassin our guide made it even better sharing his incredible knowledge, humour and local tips. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting an unforgettable experience of a lifetime!"

"The tour was really great, our driver Idriss excellent, he was really helpful and he was kind and nice with us. I really recommend this tour if you want to know the Imperial Cities of Morocco, the nature like the Sahara Desertm, Atlas Mountains and the Ouzoud Waterfall. Also you can enjoy amazing night with Berber people on the Sahara, really wonderful experience."

"Our trip to Morocco was outstanding, We booked this tour 7 days from casablanca online and were immediately connected with the tour operator, Ali with Morocco Top Travel, who was very responsive, answered all of our questions and accommodated all of our changes to customize this trip based on our requests. Our driver and guide, Said, was amazing. Always smiling, friendly, welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about Moroccan history, geography and culture. We had great conversations that gave us a real understanding about life in Morocco in the past and present time. He was always available to drive us anywhere we wanted to go in the cities, no matter what time. The local guides in Fes and Marrakech were also outstanding. They kept the tours interesting, fun and exciting - never a dull moment. I highly recommend Morocco Top Travel to anyone planning a trip to Morocco and give Said our highest recommendation."

"We had a great time on this small tour. Aatmane was an excellent guide: knowledgeable, attentive to every need and request from travellers, fun and interesting. He handled the only glitch very well: an episode of cultural insensitivity by some group members. The local guides in Fes, Volubilis, Meknes, Essouaira were first class. The guide at the movie studios? not so much. Barely, interested or informative. That's not an Intrepid problem though. I would not rate this tour as a 2 though. It's more active than that, even for fit people."

"In only 2 weeks you will experience "big" cities, desert (the Sahara), mountain (high Atlas) and ocean side! What could you wish of more? For sure it is a lot but I never felt in a rush during the tour. Our CEO Khaled was super friendly and knowledgable. He gave us plenty of information about his country and answered all the questions we asked. We had the best driver ever called Happy (or Saïd) and we all felt very safe while he was driving us through the country. Accommodations are simple but good, breakfasts are not the best but you can always buy snacks to complete them. I'm still dreaming of mint tea (the very sweet one!), the local pastries, and of course tajines and couscous! This tour is the best way to have a good overview of Morocco! As always I loved my tour with G adventures. Time to plan my next trip with them ;-)"

"Our desert adventure with Touareg Trails was a dream come true! Every moment was filled with amazement and excitement, with the overnight camp stay, exhilarating quad riding, and stunning rock formation canyon trek being distinct highlights. Mohamed, our amazing guide, brought an extra touch with his expertise, excitement, and genuine hospitality. The bonfire beneath the starlit sky was magical, and quad riding and exploring the canyon were thrilling. Touareg Trails' professionalism, attention to detail, and true love of the desert made our experience wonderful. Touareg Trails and Mohamed are the right choice for an adventure that blends desert magic with adventurous activities and skilled supervision. This experience exceeded our expectations in every way. Highly recommended!"

Reviews of Morocco Tours

"The Morocco tour was terrific. It was an awesome experience , we covered a lot of ground. The tour guide (Abdoul) was amazing as he was keen to details on the trip and kept the people pumped up for the next adventure. The visit to the towns of the Kasbahs, the Berber Villages, desert jeeps rides, tent camping and the beach towns were extraordinary. The tour our exceeded my expectations and I reccommend to do some weather research prior to joining the trip. Once you finish the tour, I guarantee you'll be excited to plan the next one."
"Visiting Morocco during Ramadan was very interesting. Our tour guide (Samir) gave us an opportunity to learn a lot and really respect the dedication of the people who participated. The scenery was astounding as is it so vast and beautiful that I coudn't take enough pictures. The food was amazing and overall it was an unforgettable experience."
"During my trip to Morocco, our tour guide (Idris) was very friendly, approachable and helpful. We had a large group but having a larger bus gave us plenty of opportunity to spread out during th tour. The tour was absolutely fantastic."

Grand Tour of Morocco with Jules Verne

silver tours maroc

A land of amazing contrasts

Beyond the familiar imperial cities, this Grand Tour highlights the diversity of the land from windswept ocean and mountains to green valleys and palm oases meandering across the desert. At the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Med., the ‘gateway to Africa’ opens a whole new world.

Tangier

‘Wake up call, 3.00 am,’ said the guide, ‘who’s willing?’

Sunrise over the desert

It was an exciting start to the day and after our first al fresco breakfast, we were back on the road, spotting a fortified village or a few palms here and there and fences and tamarisks set up to stop the advancing sand. Our aim was the wonderful Todra Gorge, towering flaming red above the source of a tumbling river. Could anything beat this?

Ait Ben Haddou

Late that afternoon, the dramatic pass of Tizi-n-Bachkoum held us spellbound while far below tomatoes, oranges and saffron glowed on a fertile plain. We slept in Taroudant, the quiet ‘mini-Marrakech’ enclosed by 7 km of ramparts and olive trees and orchards all around. There was a lively local market and just a whiff of the Atlantic breeze, I thought, or was it my imagination?

Maybe not. The next day we followed the spectacular coastal road above Agadir, lined with oil rich argan trees, all the way to the lovely little resort of Essaouira, its fabulous seafood, medina and beach, now beautifully closing the loop, only two hours away from Marrakech airport.

More information

Essaouira beach

Check the weather before you go and pack accordingly. The coastline can be windy and cool but down south, sun cream, glasses and hats are essential. Have appropriate shoes for steps and cobbled lanes.

A small bottle of drinking water is usually available in your hotel room, but it won’t be sufficient. Buy large affordable bottles in the nearest supermarket.

Respect the local culture and if you visit during Ramadan, expect some places to be closed until late afternoon.

Group of travellers and Intrepid leader look over Ait Benhaddou

When people throw around the word ‘remarkable’, they’re probably referring to places like Morocco.

In a place where riding a camel over dunes at sunset is not unusual, where tagines spiked with saffron perfume the air and Amazigh people herd goats on the slopes of the High Atlas Mountains, the word remarkable just doesn't cut it. Whether you're wandering the wind-battered port town of Essaouira, exploring the famous Kasbah in Aït Benhaddou or sleeping beneath the Saharan stars , a healthy does of Maghreb hospitality will make a Morocco tour truly unforgettable.

Best time to visit morocco.

The climate in Morocco varies wildly according to the season and area of travel. In the lowlands, the cooler months from October to April are popular among visitors. This time of year is pleasantly warm to hot (around 86°F) during the day and cool to cold (around 59°F) at night. Winter in the higher regions often brings snow and can therefore get seriously cold, particularly at night. Tourists flock to the coastline from June to September for fun in the sun, with warm mostly rain-free days. Further inland it can get hot and rain is rare, which makes the best times to travel March to June and September to December. As a Muslim country, Morocco observes Ramadan. If you are planning to go on holiday in Morocco during Ramadan, it is important to consider that many restaurants and shops will either be closed or operating at reduced hours during this time.

Culture and customs

Morocco's culture has developed over centuries of influence from far and wide. Contemporary Morocco is a fascinating mix of Berber, Mediterranean, Andalucian and African traditions, which are present in the cuisine, clothing, music, language, customs and lifestyle. As an Islamic country, most Moroccans are Muslim; however, there are small populations of people who practice Judaism and Christianity. Classic examples of Islamic architecture can be observed all throughout the country and tenets of the Islamic religion are carried out in the customs and lives of the people. The 'Call to Prayer' can be heard five times a day, women are expected to dress modestly and alcohol isn't drunk by most of the population.

Most of Moroccan society can be considered traditional, with respect for elders, connection to family, and giving alms to the poor hallmarks of everyday life for many Moroccans. Hospitality is another important element of society, with warmly welcoming people into your home a time-honored tradition and social responsibility that dates back centuries.

Eating and drinking

Intrepid believes that one of the best ways to experience a country is by eating! Whether you're sampling street food, savoring a cheap eat, or indulging in a banquet, there are endless options to choose from wherever you are in the world.

Believe the hype - Moroccan food is legendary.

Things to try in Morocco

These slow-cooked stews are synonymous with Moroccan cooking. Chicken, olive, and citrus are well-known favorites, but there are endless variations using different meats, vegetables, and seasonings.

2. Couscous

Forget instant cous cous and try the real deal in Morocco. Often served with vegetables and meat, regional varieties sometimes also include everything from sweet raisins to spicy harissa or smoky almonds.

3. Fresh fruit

Morocco has an amazing array of fruit available in the markets, shops, and juice bars. Choose from bananas, mangoes, oranges, avocados, or peaches - eat fresh or get them whipped up in a juice.

4. Mint tea

While traveling through Morocco you'll probably drink more sweet mint tea than ever before. Offered as a gesture of hospitality when visiting someone's home or shop, it's considered impolite to refuse, so accept graciously.

Geography and environment

Located in North Africa, Morocco has the best of many worlds within its boundaries. From the sun-drenched beaches of the coast to the sands of the mighty Sahara and the snowy peaks of the High Atlas and Rif Mountains, Morocco has great variety in its landscapes and terrain. This combination of desert, woodlands, forest, mountain steppe, and grasslands ensures a wide diversity of flora and fauna lives within the country.

History and government

Early history.

The land now known as Morocco has been inhabited for centuries, with Moroccan civilization being known for its richness in history and culture. Centuries of foreign trade, invasion, and dynastic rule have given Morocco many different cultural influences that are evident in today's society. From the Phoenicians who entered Morocco via the Mediterranean in the 6th century BC, to the Roman influence of 40 AD and the formation of Islamic Morocco in the years after, Morocco has evolved with the rise and fall of dynasties, formation and dissolution of empires and the birth of new governments, movements, and ways of living. Reaching its height under the Berber Dynasties of the 11th and 12th centuries (the Almoravids, Almohads, Marinids, and Wattasids), Morocco subsequently fell to Arab tribes in 1559. The current royal family are descendants of the Alaouite Dynasty who have largely ruled since the 1600s, despite enduring a few crises in the 18th and 19th centuries, mainly in relation to European influence in the area and surrounding countries.

Recent history

With the signing of the Treaty of Fez, Morocco was declared a protectorate of France in 1912 with Spain being allocated control of parts of Morocco, mainly in the north and south. European control was generally opposed by Moroccan citizens, with the people of Rif attempting to establish a separatist republic in 1921. Decades of opposition continued, with rioting and protests leading to increased political tension. In 1955, the road to Moroccan independence was paved by Mohammed V who negotiated reforms and the restoration of independence. By 1956, France had relinquished its protectorate of Morocco and in 1957, Mohammed V became king. In 1961, Hassan II assumed the title of King of Morocco and continued to rule until his death in 1999. His son, Mohammed VI, took over the mantle of king in 1999 and continues to rule today.

The desert is calling! Add a  3 day Sahara Mini Adventure  to your Morocco trip itinerary.

3. Essaouira

The name 'Essaouira' means image, appropriate since its charm is undeniable. Within the stone ramparts, you'll find art galleries, wood workshops and whitewashed houses with bright blue shutters. Portuguese, British and Jewish influences all mingle in this artist's town.

9. Casablanca

The very name conjures up images of war-time romance. But the real romance of Casablanca must be its French influences and the beautiful Hassan II mosque, the largest in Morocco.

12. Chefchaouen

You might recognize this city from the famous photos of its bright blue buildings. Set against a wide valley and tucked between two peaks in the Rif Mountains, much of Chefchaouen was recreated by Andalusian refugees escaping the Reconquista, so it might remind you of the hills of Spain.

Get a chance to wander around this striking blue city on our  18 day Morocco Encompassed tour .

It's a good idea to check with your local customs officials to ensure that you are able to bring certain items back into your home country.   Australia   and New Zealand generally have strict quarantine laws.

Things to buy in Morocco

1. Silver jewelry

Jewelry fiends will love Morocco's affinity with silver jewelry. Chunky rings, elaborate necklaces, and patterned earrings can all be found for great prices, especially if you're willing to haggle.

Save room in your backpack for an iconic silver teapot and some delicate tea glasses. Morocco's silversmiths have this ancient art running through their veins, with centuries of craftsmanship being passed from generation to generation.

The quality (and price) of leather in Morocco is pretty phenomenal. Handcrafted handbags, wallets, belts, and purses can be found in almost every souq around the country.

Festivals and events

Ramadan and eid.

The ninth and holiest of months in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is observed by most in Morocco and is thought to be a time of spiritual rejuvenation. For this month, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset - refraining from eating and drinking during daylight hours. Eid marks the end of fasting with 3 days of feasting and celebration.

Gnaoua World Music Festival

Seaside Essaouira hosts this world-famous festival that celebrates the mysterious music of the Gnaouas, brought to Morocco centuries ago via the African slave trade. Jazz, rock, blues, and pop music add a contemporary flavor, although the drums of the Gnaouas are the true soul of the festival.

Casablanca Festival

Touted as a 'celebration of all things Moroccan', this annual festival includes local and international music performances, dance, art installations, theatre, workshops, and street parades. This fusion of history and modernity, innovation and tradition is a shining example of what it means to be a citizen of cosmopolitan Casablanca.

As long as travelers use discretion and avoid public displays of affection, travel in Morocco should not be a problem.

For more detailed and up-to-date advice, we recommend visiting  Equaldex  or   ILGA  before you travel.

What to wear in Morocco

Pack layers and sensible footwear to deal with Morocco's changeable climate, uneven paths, and conservative culture. While Moroccan days are generally mild-to-hot or hot-and-humid, they can give way to cooler nights – outside of the summer months, anyway. While female travelers aren't expected to dress as conservatively as local women, it’s still a good idea to pack clothing options that will allow you to cover up.

How will I get around Morocco?

Intrepid believes half the fun of experiencing a new country is getting there, and getting around once there! Where possible, Intrepid uses local transport options and traditional modes of transport - which usually carry less of an environmental impact, support small local operators and are heaps more fun.

Berber Jewelry, The Art of Moroccan Silver

Morocco Travel Blog

Morocco is known for its artisans and the art of the jeweler or silversmith is one of many crafts practiced today. During your trip to Morocco you can watch artisans at work, marvel at the workmanship and detail of pieces in the jewelry souks and even negotiate the purchase of a unique piece. Many items of jewelry are appealing for their aesthetic value, but all pieces – whether new fabrications or antique treasures – draw on a fascinating history and symbolism.

Berbers traditionally wore silver and still do today although gold has become increasingly popular, especially in urban areas, due to its higher value. This probably was due to its availability: Morocco is a top 20 global silver producer and mines have been in use in the Souss-Massa- Draa region since the 1st century AD. Due to this resource, the town of Tiznit has grown as a major center of silver production and sales. The arrival of Islam in Morocco in the 7th century added a religious justification to the preference for silver, as certain texts of the Quran forbid the wearing of gold jewelry .

Jewish Woman, Silver Jewelry

Morocco has for many centuries been a melting pot of cultures and trading routes and as a result, many techniques were imported alongside materials or came with immigrant groups. Jews (coming from the Middle East during early migrations or later from Al-Andalus) were masters of the silversmithing techniques and passed their knowledge to their Berber neighbours and colleagues.

In many places, such as the Mellah (Jewish quarter) of Marrakech or the village of Amezrou near Zagora , it is possible to visit craftsmen who still practice these methods of casting, piercing and enameling today, although the Jewish craftsmen are long gone. In Essaouira and in Fes, you will spot modern filigree work typical of the Jewish jewelers of a bygone era.

Berber women often receive elaborate silver jewelry from their husbands at the time of marriage. This ensures that she has her own wealth in the event of hardship or of becoming widowed. Traditionally, these pieces are worn at the wedding and include headdresses, earrings, necklaces, bangles, bracelets and rings.

Berber Silver Tasfift

One of the headdresses worn by all Berber women at weddings is called a Tasfift and is essentially an ornate headpiece adorned with silver or nickel coins featuring King Mohammed V or Hassan II. It has  a rooster or chicken featured on the tip of the head to promote fertility of the new bride.

The pieces worn by Berber women at weddings  often feature beads of coral, amber or semi-precious stones plus cast coins and linked chains. Shapes and forms include those which are intended to ward off evil or geometric shapes reflecting both the Islamic tradition and Berber symbology. Many families sadly no longer have these heirlooms and in modern cities has become common to hire costume jewelry for the wedding day. It is possible to see examples of traditional Berber jewelry in the excellent Museums of Berber culture in Agadir and at the Majorelle Gardens, Berber Museum, in Marrakech.

A typical silver piece is the ‘fibula’. These are still made today and make unusual gifts as brooches. In fact, although decorative, the fibula has a very practical application in that it is used to join or fasten fabrics such as cloaks. It usually consists of either a singular triangle with a pin for fastening, or two such sections connected by a chain. The fibula design came to Morocco with the Romans and is essentially an early form of the safety pin. However, Berber craftsmen brought this useful item to a whole new level of aesthetics and symbolism. The triangular shape is said to represent woman (and fertility) and the tent (and therefore home or family).

During your visit to Morocco, you will see the Hand of Fatima or ‘khamsa’ represented everywhere from door knockers to decorations to jewlery. Common to the Islamic and Jewish faiths, it is believed to ward off evil or jealousy. The hand – with its five digits – is intrinsically linked to symbols of other faiths and cultures such as the five-pointed star or the pentagram. Modern and older khamsa pendants are available in souks all over Morocco.

Another common form is the ‘agadez’ or southern cross. These pendants are traditionally native to the Touareg tribes of the desert and are available across Morocco. There are said to be at least 21 variations on the central theme of an elaborate cross, each representing a tribe or homeland. Agadez crosses are made in the traditional way using a lost wax technique. Silver is melted on coal embers, and poured into a wax mold, placed in a mold of clay. Inserts of wood, glass or semi-precious stones, are sometimes added. It is said that these items are used for navigation in the desert, with the central cross denoting the four compass points.

The traditions and designs related to Berber jewlery are sure to give any visitor to Morocco a great insight into local culture… As well as making a great gift or souvenir purchase!

United States Mint 2024 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin (W) Available January 16

2024 American Eagle Silver One Ounce Proof Coin Obverse

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) will accept orders for the 2024 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin (W) beginning on January 16, 2024, at noon EST. This one-ounce silver proof coin has no mintage limit, with orders limited to 25 coins per household for the first 24 hours of sale.

Produced at the United States Mint at West Point since 1986, American Eagle Silver Proof Coins are collector versions of the official United States Mint American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. These popular silver collectibles were updated in 2021 with a refreshed obverse (heads) and a completely redesigned reverse (tails) to mark the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Coin Program.

Like its bullion counterpart, the obverse of the American Eagle Silver Proof Coin features sculptor Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. Using technological advancements in the design and minting process, the coin encompasses some of Weinman’s original details, which renders a closer reflection of his original vision, including the addition of his traditional artist mark. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “2024,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

The reverse depicts an eagle as it prepares to land, carrying an oak branch, as if to add it to a nest. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Emily Damstra created the design that retired United States Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso sculpted.

In addition to the redesigned reverse and enhanced design details on the obverse, the American Eagle Silver Proof Coins are minted in high detail using new technology and include a reed pattern variation. The Mint benchmarked its efforts against anti-counterfeiting programs implemented by major mints around the world. These features will make the coins more difficult to counterfeit.

The 2024 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof (W) is priced at $80. To set up a REMIND ME alert, visit https://catalog.usmint.gov/american-eagle-2024-one-ounce-silver-proof-coin-24EA.html (product code 24EA).

This product is included in the Authorized Bulk Purchase Program. Additional coins in the American Eagle Coin Program are available at https://catalog.usmint.gov/coins/coin-programs/american-eagle-coins/ .

About the United States Mint Congress created the United States Mint in 1792, and the Mint became part of the Department of the Treasury in 1873. As the Nation’s sole manufacturer of legal tender coinage, the Mint is responsible for producing circulating coinage for the Nation to conduct its trade and commerce. The Mint also produces numismatic products, including proof, uncirculated, and commemorative coins; Congressional Gold Medals; silver and bronze medals; and silver and gold bullion coins. Its numismatic programs are self-sustaining and operate at no cost to taxpayers.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver finalizing contract extension, source tells AP

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is about to celebrate his 10th anniversary in office. It will not be his last.

Silver is finalizing an extension to remain as commissioner of the NBA for several more years, a person with knowledge of the agreement said Saturday night. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no announcement from the league had been made.

ESPN, which first reported the agreement, said Silver’s new deal will stretch “through the end of the decade.” It’s the second time the league’s owners have approved an extension for Silver, who also got one in June 2018 that had him under contract through the end of this season’s NBA Finals.

Silver became commissioner on Feb. 1, 2014, officially succeeding former Commissioner David Stern — his mentor. That move had been in the works for years; Stern officially announced his retirement more than a year earlier and the Board of Governors unanimously approved the plan to have Silver, the longtime deputy commissioner, take over.

“He’s been a great leader who built on David’s legacy and really turned us in to a major multinational organization,” said Mark Cuban, who until recently had been the primary owner of the Dallas Mavericks.

And the league has seen enormous success under Silver, who has overseen the ratification of two Collective Bargaining Agreements between the league and its players since he became commissioner — he also was the lead negotiator, then as deputy commissioner, when the NBA and its players struck a deal in 2011. The most recent CBA went into effect this season, ensuring labor peace in the NBA for several more years at minimum.

Silver also led the league in its talks on what became a nine-year, $24 billion media rights deal with ESPN and Turner Sports — sending revenue skyrocketing and, in turn, serving as the catalyst to have player salaries soar as well. The league is currently negotiating its next media deal, one that is generally expected to be worth more than the existing agreement.

Values of franchises have also soared; the average price of an NBA team was around $650 million when Silver took office, and now the average value is about $3 billion. The highest salary in the league when Silver became commissioner was Kobe Bryant at around $30 million; it’s now Stephen Curry at around $52 million this season.

“The NBA’s reach is expansive, though in many ways we are just scratching the surface in terms of our international growth,” Silver wrote in an essay for AP to commemorate the league’s 75th anniversary in 2022.

He guided the league through the COVID-shortened season of 2019-20, the one where the league brought 22 teams into a bubble at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida, to finish the regular season and hold the entirety of the playoffs. Silver also successfully navigated a very difficult opening few weeks in office; less than three months into his tenure he banned then-Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling from the league for life over racist comments.

The 61-year-old Silver is a Duke graduate and, like Stern, left the legal field to join the NBA. He joined the league as Stern’s special assistant — “he read everything I asked him to read,” Stern said in 2014 — before being the league’s chief of staff, running NBA Entertainment for about a decade and then taking over as deputy commissioner in 2006.

Silver is the fifth commissioner of the league, predated by Stern, Larry O’Brien, J. Walter Kennedy and Maurice Podoloff.

Stephen Jaeger embraces silver lining amid disappointing Farmers finish

Change Text Size

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Stephen Jaeger assumed there would be a charge. A six-time winner on the Korn Ferry Tour, Jaeger has played both the hunter and the hunted many times.

You’d prefer to be the former at the Farmers Insurance Open. The last two winners came from five shots back on the final day to win and eight of the last 10 winners came from at least three shots back.

Jaeger learned the hard way. The margin was smaller, but the result followed the trend. Jaeger, who entered the day with a one-shot lead, shot 72, While Matthieu Pavon shot 69 to win the Farmers Insurance Open at 13-under, two better than Jaeger.

“In golf you quickly learn that it's not win or lose; sometimes you lose and you have a great week,” Jaeger said after the final round. “I've learned a lot about myself this weekend that I'm going to be able to take forward.”

It’s a disappointing but notable finish for Jaeger, who had become one of the most consistent players on the PGA TOUR but hadn’t truly contended on a weekend of a TOUR event. Saturday was just the fourth time Jaeger led or co-led after any round in 129 events. One came earlier this week; he led by after the second round. The other two (2021 Corales Puntacana and 2023 Valspar Championship) came after the opening rounds. In both instances, Jaeger didn’t log another under-par round the rest of the week.

His performance, although in a losing effort, showed how far the 34-year-old German has come. Since he regained his PGA TOUR card ahead of the 2022-23 season, improvement has been the name of the game. His mental approach, off-the-tee performance and putting have all undergone major recalibrations in recent years. His T3 finish at the Farmers Insurance Open was his most encouraging result yet.

“It was awesome, it was great," said Jaeger, who has made 20 cuts in a row, the fourth longest active streak on TOUR behind Scottie Scheffler (36), Viktor Hovland (28) and Scottie Scheffler (27). "Listen, I didn't have my best stuff golf game-wise. I battled.”

The work can be traced back to March 2022. That’s when he began training with strength coach Mike Carroll and prioritized speed. In Jaeger’s words, he was “crooked and short” off the tee. Not a good combo. The stats showed it. He ranked 184th in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee in 2021-22 and was outside the top 125 in Driving Distance and Accuracy. Carroll gave him a series of mobility exercises and got him started on speed training. It quickly made him both longer and more accurate off the tee. He averaged 306 yards off the tee in 2023, a 13-yard increase from the year before, and jumped into the top 50 in accuracy and SG: Off-the-Tee. It coincided with his best season on the PGA TOUR. For the first time in his career, he finished inside the top 125, qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs and nearly cracked the top 50.

But his increased speed wasn’t the only reason he improved. He credits a greater focus on his mental performance. Too often Jaeger felt he should’ve gotten more out of his rounds. He would drive it good and putt it well but the scores wouldn’t reflect his performance. One or two mental mistakes hindered the performance, and Jaeger wasn’t reacting well when he made those mistakes.

“The fact that he's going down these avenues where there's potential for improvement is a sign of how hard he's willing to work,” Carroll told PGATOUR.com.

On a whim several years ago, Jaeger decided to try meditating. He does it to this day. Fifteen minutes every day. But it was last spring that he decided to add more structure to his mental approach. He began working with mental coach Julie Elion, who aided Wyndham Clark in his breakout 2023 season and also works with Homa. Elion helped Jaeger think of his mental game as he does his driving or putting — an area that needs constant, daily attention.

“We spend two hours on chipping and an hour of balls and putting for a couple hours and the mental game kind of gets left behind a little bit,” Jaeger said.

Meditation remains the catalyst of his mental work, but Jaeger has added reading and listening to podcasts to his rotation. Anything that can help him sharpen his focus. The change wasn’t primarily for golf, either. It’s helped Jaeger be a better husband and father.

“I used to get pretty angry and frustrated,” Jaeger said. “That's what kind of started it and it really helped with, you know, like golf as well.”

Jaeger managed his frustrations to begin his final round on Saturday. He nearly jarred his approach from a fairway bunker on the par-4 second, spinning it to one foot for a tap-in birdie. Then he stuck his approach on the par-3 third to within two feet for another birdie. Pavon, at that point, was 1-over for his round and four shots back. Slowly Jaeger’s lead dwindled from there. Pavon made birdies on No. 4 and 6 while Jaeger carded a pair of pars. A bogey for Jaeger on No. 7 and a birdie from Pavon on No. 8 left the two tied entering the back nine. And it was Jaeger who blinked. Pavon made seven straight pars to start his back nine, while Jaeger gave shots back on No. 12 and No. 14. That was the difference.

The margins are thin. Jaeger has done well to shrink them. Saturday showed that. It also showed there’s still work to do.
