The small coastal town of Seward, a "turn around" port for several Alaska cruise lines, is more than a hundred miles from the nearest airport in Anchorage. This can make planning a cruise transfer seem like a challenge at first, but there are easy transportation options for passengers either arriving into or departing from Seward. These include private van transfers , Park Connection Motorcoach , Alaska Railroad , or rental cars .
If you are ready to book your scheduled Seward cruise transfer now, visit our easy Train & Bus Express Checkout .
Cruise Transfers for Ships Embarking from Seward
Below are the available scheduled transportation options to Seward:
- Park Connection Motorcoach from Anchorage to Seward - 7:00 AM departure | 9:45 AM arrival.
- Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward - 6:45 AM departure | 11:20 AM arrival.
- Park Connection Motorcoach from Anchorage to Seward - 3:00 PM departure | 5:45 PM arrival.*
Morning transfers leave time to explore Seward or head out on a scenic Kenai Fjords National Park day cruise . Some local tour operators will hold luggage, and passengers who come by train may have their bags transferred directly to the cruise line if properly tagged.
The afternoon transfer works best for guests traveling Denali Park to Seward and Talkeetna to Seward . The Park Connection provides the only same-day service between these destinations. *Important note: The afternoon Park Connection coordinates best with Norwegian and Viking cruises. Due to an earlier check in (typically by 5:00 PM for a 7:00 PM sailing), Royal Caribbean or Celebrity cruisers should take a morning transfer or enjoy an overnight in Seward the day prior to embarkation.
What about flying into Alaska the day of your cruise departure? We do not recommend flying into Anchorage on the day of your southbound cruise departure. If you are on a limited schedule, spend a night or two at an Anchorage hotel or Seward hotel . This allows for unforeseen flight or luggage delays. Better yet, if you have more time, explore the land side of Alaska on a pre-cruise vacation package . These trips conveniently end in Seward, making them perfect to pair with southbound Seward cruises.
Cruise Transfers for Ships Disembarking at Seward
After your cruise concludes, you can catch a train or coach north to Anchorage:

- Park Connection Motorcoach Seward to Anchorage - 10:45 AM departure | 1:30 PM arrival. Departs downtown Seward.
- Same-day service from Seward to Denali Park or Seward to Talkeetna is also available with these morning departures.
If you'd like a more leisurely day in Seward:
- Alaska Railroad Seward to Anchorage - 6:00 PM departure | 10:15 PM arrival.
- Park Connection Motorcoach Seward to Anchorage - 6:30 PM departure | 9:30 PM arrival.

About Seward Alaska
Seward is the easiest place to find fish and see glaciers. The year-round population is about 2,000, but it can swell to about 30,000 around the popular Fourth of July weekend festivities. The town was named after William Seward, secretary of state under President Andrew Johnson, who engineered the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867. His critics around the country were appalled. The United States had spent $7.2 million, they cried, for icebergs, and polar bears. Cartoonists showed Seward amid glaciers and walruses. They claimed the new territory should more aptly be called “Walrussia” or “Seward’s Folly.” Asked at the end of his long and distinguished career about his single greatest achievement, Seward responded, “The purchase of Alaska! But it will take Congress and the American people a generation to find it out.” That original purchase price has been paid back thousands of times over in fur, gold, fish, timber, and oil. Ironically, now tourists come (and pay) to see icebergs, walruses, polar bears, and glaciers.
While you’ll see plenty of ice in Seward, you won’t see walruses or polar bears this far south, unless you come for a strange event the third week of January, known as the Seward Polar Bear Jump-off Festival. When everyone else is wearing parkas and wool hats, strange characters in costumes and capes – all for charity and the theater of the absurd – plunge into the frigid waters of Resurrection Bay and come flying back out. It’s their entry fee to an elite and wacky club, the Polar Bear Club. Resurrection Bay is the best of Seward, an inviting front yard, attracting boaters, birders, kayakers, fisherman, sailors, and whale watchers. Full of glaciers and incredible wildlife, all the western coast of the bay is in Kenai Fjords National Park. Seward is the beginning of the railroad to Fairbanks and Mile 0 on the old historic Seward to Nome gold rush/mail route, today more familiarly known as the Iditarod Trail.

This one-way transfer from Anchorage to the Seward cruise terminal is an excellent add-on for guests cruising to Alaska. To start your worry-free trip, we'll pick you up directly from your hotel or the Anchorage airport in our 28-passenger shuttle bus. You'll want to have your camera ready for our scenic drive alongside the beautiful Turnagain Arm. You'll love hearing your guide's expert narration and personalized stories about the Anchorage area. The highlight of this tour is our stop at the famous Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center! The AWCC is a nonprofit providing care and rehabilitation to Alaskan wildlife. Typically, these animals have been orphaned or injured and come to the AWCC for a permanent home. The Center is home to many species including brown bears, black bears, moose, porcupines, and Sitka black-tail deer. On this tour, you'll also learn about local conservation efforts, like the AWCC's collaborative effort with the Alaska Dept. of Fish & Game to repopulate western Alaska with wood bison after a 100-year absence. After leaving the Center, we'll finish our transfer with a scenic drive through the Kenai Mountains. We'll make a stop at Canyon Creek overlook for some incredible photo ops before reaching Seward. Finally, we'll bring you right to the cruise terminal for the next portion of your Alaskan adventure! Non-cruise guests may utilize this tour as well. Please note that this tour only runs on Mondays and Fridays.

We are planning trip to alaska end of June.
Restaurants reviews I read show limited to zero fish dishes in restaurants.Strange.
Or frozen at least...
I usually cook at home. For me it will be hard to eat in restaurants all the time.

there are others - this is just what to look for.
one in seward
I'm not sure if the new owners' Bucket of Butt is as good as the old owners, but here are reviews: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g60873-d24145867-Reviews-Flamingo_Lounge-Seward_Alaska.html Local DE GlacierLady used to rave about Bucket of Butt when the restaurant was known as "Thorn's" (sold in 2022).
Many restaurants in Seward serve seafood. Here is a list, and you can filter the reviews for the specific species of fish you're interested in: https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaurants-g60873-c33-Seward_Alaska.html
Here is a list of Seward Seafood companies: https://www.seward.com/maritime/alaska-seafood/
Hopefully Glacierlady will pop in to let you know her current favorite places to buy/eat fish.... It might help if you specify which species you're most interested in.
