Bali & Beyond Travel Fair 2024 returns, highlighting Indonesia’s tourism richness and diversity with key industry stakeholders at Bali International Convention Centre.

DENPASAR, BALI – The Bali & Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF), Indonesia’s premier annual tourism trade show, is all set to return in 12th -14th June 2024 for its highly anticipated 10th edition. Celebrating the richness and diversity of Indonesia’s tourism industry, BBTF promises to bring together key stakeholders, industry experts, travel professionals, and enthusiasts from around the world at the Bali International Convention Centre (BICC) Nusa Dua – Bali.

BBTF has established itself as a pivotal platform for promoting Indonesia’s extensive array of tourism offerings, highlighting the country’s captivating destinations, hospitality services, and travel-related products.

“The Bali & Beyond Travel Fair has continually served as a catalyst for fostering partnerships, promoting sustainable tourism, and showcasing the unparalleled beauty of Indonesia, ” said I Putu Winastra , the leading committee of the BBTF 2024 and the Chairman of Association of The Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) Bali chapter, “We are excited to announce the return of BBTF in 2024, presenting a comprehensive showcase that underscores Indonesia’s position as a global tourism hub from Bali.”

Key features of BBTF 2024 include:

• Destination Exhibitions: A diverse range of destinations from across Indonesia will be showcased, allowing participants to discover the unique cultural, natural, and adventure experiences each region as quality tourism has to offer.
• B2B Sessions: The event will facilitate productive business-to-business meetings, fostering collaborations between tourism stakeholders, travel agents, hoteliers, airlines, and other industry players. Expected to reach more than 250 sellers or 9% increase from last year event to meet more than 400 buyers from expected to reach 51 countries.
• Seminars and Workshops: Insightful sessions and workshops led by industry experts will delve into current trends, sustainable tourism practices, digital marketing strategies, and more. With the significant increase of long and short haul to Bali, the airport expansion and management as well as the welcome of recent international airlines with new routes are big subjects to discuss during the seminar.
• Cultural Performances and Showcases: Attendees will have the chance to immerse themselves in Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage through live performances, arts, crafts, and culinary delights.

BBTF 2024 theme of “Exploring & Experiencing Sense of Indonesia’s Beauty” aims to reinforce Indonesia’s position as a top travel destination by highlighting its diverse attractions, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering collaborations that drive the tourism industry forward.

BBTF 2023: 9th Edition June 14-17, 2023

Bali and Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF)  has confirmed that “all systems are go” for the 9th edition of Indonesia’s leading international travel fair.  BBTF  organizers announced the dates for next year’s event, June 14-17, 2023, which will be held at the  Bali International Convention Center (BICC)  while also revealing the theme and logo of  BBTF 2023.  

Bali’s annual travel event will be held on June 14-17, 2023, at the  Bali International Convention Centre (BICC),  Nusa Dua.

The official theme for next year’s  BBTF  is “ Reconnecting to quality and Sustainable Tourism.”  The logo for BBTF (shown above) reflects  “Nawa Sanga”  – the Balinese philosophy that pays homage to the nine cardinal wind directions considered sacred in the Balinese cosmos and the nine most holy temples found in Bali – each one linked to a specific deity. Reverence to the pantheon of  Dewata Nawa Sanga  also respects the central tenet of Balinese life –  Tri Hita Karana  that idealizes maintaining harmony and balance in all things. 

The Bali and Beyond Travel Fair  has been endorsed by the  Ministry of Tourism and the Creative Economy  since its inception. It has earned the loyal support of dedicated stakeholders, the provincial government, and Bali’s private and public sectors.

This year’s  BBTF  welcomes the support of the  Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs,  bolstering the Fair’s commitment to promoting the diversity of tourism opportunities available across the entire nation. Also highlighted at  BBTF 2023  is Bali’s southernmost regency of Badung, whose many charms, attractions, and major event-hosting capabilities were magnificently showcased during the recent hosting of the  G20 Summit  at the  Nusa Dua Complex.

I Putu Winastra, chairman of the  Bali Chapter of the Association of the Indonesian Tours & Travel Agencies (ASITA) , and chairman of the  BBTF  host committee, expressed his sincere appreciation to Bali’s travel industry’s steadfast dedication to the theme of “ Reconnecting to Quality and Sustainable Tourism.”  As in past BBTFs, the event is proving itself increasingly able to attract reputable International travel industry buyers seeking lasting business partnerships in Bali. “We target 350 buyers from 33 countries to meet 250 sellers from all over Indonesia. The opportunities arising in the tourism sector after  G20  means that the travel industry should be able to lead the global economic growth and recovery,” said Winastra.

BBTF 2023’s  theme championing  “Reconnecting Quality and Sustainable Tourism,”  embraces the current and future challenges of the global tourism industry. Accordingly,  BBTF  promotes quality tourism in which visitors enhance their journey by absorbing local wisdom, engaging with the surrounding community, and seeking to support local economies while remaining mindful of the need for nature conservation and environmental preservation.  

Winastra added: “We facilitate and encourage interactions between tourists and local communities to generate both tangible and intangible practical benefits and increase awareness of critical cultural, environmental, and economic issues to encourage investments in the local business environment.”

This positive reception ensures that BBTF will continue to uphold its status as a prominent marketplace in Indonesia. The annual BBTF event, initiated by the Bali Province Association of Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, is scheduled to take place from 14th to 17th June 2023 at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) in Nusa Dua, Bali.

Bali and Beyond Travel Fair Announces New Theme for 2024

For the last few days, during the Travex, BBTF received the positive responds from government officials, stakeholders buyers and sellers as well as exhibitors who expressed their appreciation for BBTF 2023. This brought confident to the committee to stay committed continuing the legacy of BBTF as the Indonesia’s leading international travel fair as an annual event. “We are hoping for support that brought bigger all buyers and sellers together in 2024 to build partnership, good business and making a positive impact to Bali and beyond Indonesia.” Prof. Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati, the Vice Governor of Bali commented to encourage all stakeholders to collaborate.

“BBTF is proud to take part in the growth of tourism in Indonesia with continuous trust and full support from Bali Government, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Stakeholders together to bring the potential of Indonesia from Bali and at the end contribute an increasing of foreign earnings.” the Head Committee of BBTF 2023 stated.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno encourages BBTF as a platform to promote quality and sustainable tourism, aiming to grow as the largest travel trade event in the region. He announced also the good news that Indonesia is chosen as part of the executive to design the world tourism by UNWTO. Indonesia will focus on 4.4 million employments and sustainable tourism.

This year the Minister highlighted the significant growth with the participation of BBTF and expected to enhance the MICE sector and creative economy-based tourism and can contribute to achieving Indonesia’s tourist arrival targets for 2024.

Next year the ministry are optimistic to get more top buyers worldwide that represent the full spectrum of tourism at all levels including Tour operators, Travel agencies, Event and Tourism companies, Public institutions & organizations, Domestic and foreign MICE, and Corporates to meet diversity of sellers from Travel and Tourism in Indonesia; Travel Bureau, Tourist attractions, Hotels and Restaurants, Health & Wellness industries, Marine Tourism, Tourism Villages and corporate travel representatives as well as regional’s new destinations. “We hope to see more participations, and we encourage provinces all over Indonesia, regencies and associations to take opportunity to be part of BBTF 2024.” The Minister added.

“For that reasons Bali and Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) will return for the 10th year in June 13 – 15, 2024 with the theme of ‘Exploring & Experiencing Sense of Indonesia’s Beauty’, expecting a qualified market place for global buyers to meet national and international sellers in Bali,” I Putu Winastra, the Head Committee of BBTF 2023 and Chairman of ASITA Bali chapter announced the theme for 2024 that outlined Indonesia as a whole.

“Inspired by the 10. Ten is a symbol of success and achievement associated with good luck and prosperity especially in the business sector. So, we choose the color of Gold for next year theme that also represent Wisdom, Royalty, Victory, and Devotion for success. Let’s face the challenges together. Being resilience and optimistic for the future of Tourism Indonesia.” Putu Winastra added.

KOMPAS.com - Kompas Travel Fair (KTF), pameran terbesar industri travel, akan kembali digelar pada 20-22 September 2024 di Jakarta Convention Center.

Kompas Travel Fair menggandeng bank partner OCBC dan Bank DBS Indonesia, pada penyelenggaraan ke-11 kali ini, mengusung tema Multi Travel Experience. 

Melalui tema tersebut, KTF 2024 menghadirkan Multi Airlines, Multi Bank Partner, Multi Travel Agent hingga Multi Travel Deals. 

”Tren pariwisata 2024 menurut Kemenparekraf meliputi empat hal, yaitu bleisure (business and leisure) , wisata kebugaran, wisata mendalam dan bermakna, serta set-jetting ,” ujar Wakil Direktur Bisnis Harian Kompas Novi Eastiyanto.

Bleisure menggabungkan perjalanan bisnis dan liburan. Wisata kebugaran berfokus pada perjalanan yang sehat bagi wisatawan.

Heading to Bali or somewhere tropical these holidays? Here’s what you need to know about dengue fever

If you’re looking to escape the Australian winter for your next holiday, don’t forget where there’s warmth, there will also be mosquitoes.

In turn, tropical destinations can be hot spots of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue. In fact, Australian health authorities have warned travellers to Bali to be aware of the risk of dengue, with cases surging in the region.

So here’s how to protect yourself and your family on holidays.

What is dengue?

Dengue virus infection (commonly known as dengue fever, or just dengue) is caused by viruses spread by the bite of a mosquito. The mosquito species that typically transmit dengue are Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus .

There are four strains of dengue virus. Each has the potential to cause illness that can range from mild to severe and potentially life threatening .

Symptoms typically include rash, fever, chills, headache, muscle and joint pain, and fatigue. People also often report abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.

While infection with just one of these viruses can make you sick, subsequent exposure to other strains can have more serious health implications . In these cases, symptoms can also include the presence of blood in vomit, bleeding gums and breathing difficulties.

Dengue infection must be confirmed via a blood test, but there are no specific treatments . Most people will recover on their own however staying hydrated is crucial and pain relief can help with symptoms. If more severe illness occurs, seek urgent medical care.

Are travellers at risk?

The disease is now endemic in around 100 countries and an estimated 4 billion people are considered at risk. Asian countries represent around 70% of the global disease burden. Even Europe is at risk .

One of the worst years on record was 2023, but the burden of dengue continues to grow. In the first four months of 2024, Indonesia reported three times as many cases of dengue compared to the same period in 2023.

Dengue is not a new risk to Australian travellers. Before COVID disrupted international travel, the number of Australians returning from tropical destinations with dengue was steadily increasing .

For example, between 2010 and 2016, there was an average annual increase of 22% of travellers returning to Victoria with dengue. Almost half of these people contracted the illness in Indonesia. Bali is well documented as posing a risk of dengue to travellers.

International travel restrictions due to COVID abruptly stopped this trend . But now Australians are again embracing international travel, cases are rising once more .

Bali isn’t the only destination with a surge in dengue , but we know it’s a popular holiday destination for Australian travellers. There’s little doubt plenty of families will be heading to Bali these school holidays.

How about the risk in Australia?

Not all mosquitoes can spread dengue viruses. This is why the risk is different in Bali and other tropical regions compared to Australia.

Although there are more than 40 Australian mosquito species known or suspected to be transmitting local pathogens, such as Ross River virus , Australia is generally free of local dengue risk due to the limited spread of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus .

While Aedes aegypti is found in parts of Queensland , thanks to interventions by the World Mosquito Program and local authorities dengue risk is low. These interventions include the release of laboratory-bred mosquitoes that prevent mosquitoes in the environment spreading viruses , as well as community education . But local cases occasionally occur.

Aedes albopictus is not currently found on the Australian mainland but is present in the islands of the Torres Strait. A dengue outbreak has occurred there this year.

Keep mozzies away during the day, not just at night

While there is a vaccine available, it’s not recommended for short-term travellers . There are strict eligibility criteria for its use, so speak to a health professional for advice.

For the majority of travellers, preventing mosquito bites is the only way to prevent disease.

But there are differences in the behaviour of dengue mosquitoes that mean the normal measures to avoid mosquito bites may not be as effective.

During the Australian summer, mosquitoes found in local wetlands can be incredibly abundant . We tend to need to reach for the repellent and cover up to stop bites as soon as the sun starts going down.

Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus can aggressively bite people but they’re not as abundant as the swarms of summer mosquitoes back home.

They also bite during the day, not just at night. So for those travelling to Bali or other areas at risk of dengue, putting insect repellent on throughout the day is recommended.

What to pack for protection

If you’re staying in a major resort, there’s likely to be a mosquito control program in place. This may include minimising available water for mosquito breeding in combination with insecticide use. Mosquitoes are also less likely to be an issue in air-conditioned accommodation.

But if you’re planning to spend time out and about visiting local villages, markets, or in nature, it’s best to protect against bites.

Light coloured and loose fitting clothing will help stop mosquito bites (and help keep you cool). Covered shoes can help too – dengue mosquitoes love smelly feet .

Finally, it’s best to take some insect repellent with you. There may not be any available at your destination, and formulations on sale might not have been through the same thorough testing as products approved in Australia .
