ravpower 4 port usb travel wall charger

If you’re not really on-the-go kind of person and rather a person that enjoys staying in one place and charging your devices, then chances are a Wall charger is your most used charging device.

Then if you want to charge many devices at the same time, and at max charging speeds; You want a wall charger that’s going to deliver on all cylinders.

The 4-Port RAVPower wall charger is able to offer a charging experience that provides a good amount of charging options and a not too shabby amount of power.

Let’s delve into what this 4-port wall charger has to offer and if you can rely on it.

Other Types of 4-Port Wall Chargers:

[content-egg-block template=offers_list]

Well, it’s obvious to see that the RAVPower wall charger has 4 charging ports and this means that you can charge 4 devices at the same time. However, it’s more about what those 4 charging ports are capable of, rather than how many there are.

ravpower 4 port usb travel wall charger

Every Port is Built for Speed

Each of the charging ports has RAVPower iSmart technology that is able to charge at max speeds of 5V/2.4A.

It’s the fastest charging speed that a standard charger can give but alas the limit of Amperage current that the wall charger can give is 8 Amps.

That’s because if 4 iPads were connected to the wall charger, then the max output of each charging port would drop to 2A simply because that’s the capabilities of the wall charger.

Although this does not mean the wall charger cannot charge an iPad at a max speed of 2.4 Amps.

Great for iPads

If you connect an iPad to a single charging port, then that single iPad will charge at 5V/2.4A charging speed.

Connecting 2 more iPads will result in max charging speeds for all 3 iPads that are connected the wall charger because currently, the wall charger is at an Output of 7.2A, but add one more iPad and the Output is above its 8 Amp limit and must tone down the Amp Outputs.

So it’s important to remember that this wall charger does have limits with how much power it can deliver, which is 8 Amps at any one time.

Although it’s somewhat of a disappointment, the disappointments are mostly for those that are going to charge 4 iPads at once. Other than that, the 4-port Wall charger can prove to be strong for nearly any other device that uses USB charging because it’ll be able to deliver a max charge.

This means that your smartphones will be able to get a max charging speed, although there is no Quick Charge with this 4-port wall charger; RAVPower does have a 4-Port Quick Charge 2.0 wall charger that has 1 charging port with Quick Charge 2.0 and the other three ports have iSmart charging tech.

Is the power for this wall charger underwhelming? Hardly. It’s as long as you’re not pushing its 8 Amp threshold, the wall charger is going to deliver a max charging speed to any device that you connect it to. Even so, we find that charging 4 iPads at 2 Amps of charging speed is still very impressive.

Quick Charge Version of this wall charger.

Size and Weight:

We found that the RAVPower 4-Port wall charger was designed just a little bulkier than other wall chargers and not exactly in a bad way. It’s approximately 3.6 inches in length,  the width of the wall charger is about 2.3 inches and the thickness is 1 inch .

It’s a little long and just a tad wide than other 4-port wall chargers; However, it doesn’t make the wall charger any less usable. It’s also very lightweight at a weight of 5.3 ounces .

Functional Components:

With that said, the main issue for the wall charger is the lack of built-in plug pins.

The wall charger does not have built-in plug pins, instead, the wall charger uses an Outlet Cable that must be connected to the wall charger and then connected to an outlet.

It’s a great design choice if you want to connect the wall charger to a wall outlet or Surge protector so you can elongate the length of the wall charger and use your devices in a more free manner while your device is still connected to a wall charger and charging.

So you connect the length of the outlet cable with the wall charger and the length of your own charging cable for your device; Combine those two and you have a very free charging environment.

Although the Outlet cable and lack of built-in plug pins make the wall charger seem behind the times. This means that you must have the outlet cable AND the wall charger itself if you plan on traveling with wall charger.

We think it’s better going for an easier design choice the like how the PowerPort-4 goes comes with built-in plug pins and retractable ones too.

The use of a power cord is still very helpful.

It may be a little odd, but the outlet cable for a wall charger is still welcome for those that seek more freedom from the restraints that any wall charger gives. Also, there’s much less of a chance for the wall charger to drop out of its outlet since it doesn’t have the immediate weight of the wall charger bearing on it.

ravpower 4 port usb travel wall charger

The 4 charging ports are placed vertically, and on top of the 4 charging ports is a LED charging light that turns on when charging is taking place.

If you’ve got the wall charger placed on a surface that can be slippery or where it can easily slide, the wall charger has a Silicone ring beneath it that actually does a nice job of keeping the wall charger in one place on a wood or marble surface.

Structure and Material:

The build quality of the wall charger is one of the best we’ve seen.

It’s not one of those Rugged wall chargers that can take serious damage but it’s nearly got a uni-body build that makes it built better most wall chargers.

There’s the top side of the wall charger and the bottom side with the silicone ring that are the only two parts that are connected to make the charger whole.

So there’s really no need to worry about panels coming off the wall charger or things becoming loose since the wall charger has two big pieces that are strongly placed together.

The charging ports built just to the same standard with the ports really holding onto USB ports that are connected to it. Small tugs from your charging cable aren’t going to frustratingly become loose and fall out.

Along with the strong physical build is the safety tech within the wall charger that provides a much-needed Temperature control, Voltage control, and Current control.

Although these kinds of safety features should be featured in nearly all wall chargers, having it with a 4-port wall charger and above is definitely a good thing to know because the more devices that you having charging all at once, the higher the temperature of the wall charger becomes.

These regulations within the wall charger maintain a good temperature so you’re receiving a fast and safe charging experience.

With that said, the Wall charger has been known to actually lose its power capabilities after some time of use.

This is something we haven’t experienced but it’s definitely a problem for a wall charger that does give really good power.

If it does lose its charging power over some time, we recommend contacting RAVPower to see if there’s a warranty for the wall charger; Because something as serious as having a wall charger that you expect to be charging fast, but actually, charges slower should be addressed.

Similar Wall Charger

ravpower 4 port usb travel wall charger

It’s a highly reliable charger for those seeking to charge many devices at the same time and honestly, the price tag of the wall charger at $15.99 is quite amazing when you consider what you’re getting.

It’s able to charge nearly any device that you connect to it at full charging speed. Sure, you won’t be getting the full 2.4A charging speed if you connect 4 iPads to it but are you really goes to connect 4 iPad to this wall charger?

Instead, the more likely scenario is that you’ll be connecting a few smartphones to the wall charger and they will be charging at max speeds.

Nearly any combination that doesn’t result in charging 4 iPads at the same time, will result in a max output of charging speed. That’s what we call being capable and reliable.

Read Review for RAVPower 6-Port Wall Charger

ravpower 4 port usb travel wall charger

Each of the ports is capable of delivering a max charging speed of 5V/2.4A. The max charging output is 8 Amps.

The wall charger will always give you a max charging speed unless you’re going to charging 4 iPad at once. Then, in that case, the charging speed drops down to 2A for each charging port. Even so, we find that it’s not really a power fault and is still quite fast even when charging 4 iPads.

ravpower 4 port usb travel wall charger

The design of the wall charger is compact and takes up very minimal space. The USB charging ports are clear to find and use.

There’s a LED light above the charging ports to let you know when charging is taking place and a Silicone ring at the bottom to prevent the wall charger from slipping.

Perhaps the main flaw is the lack of built-in plug pins and requiring the use of an outlet cable.

With that said, the outlet cable provides more versatility with how you use your device while it’s charging and where you can put the wall charger.

ravpower 4 port usb travel wall charger

Build quality is absolutely sound with just two pieces connecting the wall charger. The charging ports hold USB ports in strong so they don’t fall out.

There’s an array of safety tech precautions that make charging 4 devices at once trustworthy. However, the main concern for this wall charger is the possibility of it to lose power after a few months of use.

ravpower 4 port usb travel wall charger

It’s a reliable charger if you’re searching for something little different on the design side of things.

Other than that it’s going to provide enough power for nearly any device that you connect to it because although it caps at 8 Amps, the charger simply goes to the next fastest charging speed.

Specs of the RAVPower 40W 8A 4-Port Wall Charger:

Max Output Per Port: 5V/2.4A

Max Output Capabilities: 8A

  • Input:  AC 100-240V
  • Quick Charge: No
  • LED Power Indicator: 1 Green LED at the top of the Charging ports
  • Size: 3.6 x 2.3 x 1.1 inches
  • Weight: 5.3 Ounces

Conclusion:

This RAVPower 4-Port wall charger is strong at charging by providing the fastest charging experience in most cases.

Unless you’re planning to charge 4 iPads at the same time or any other device that requires a high Amperage rate. The RAVPower 4-port wall charger does its best to provide the fastest charge.

The design is acceptable enough, and although the need for the Outlet cable is odd, we think that it’s quite helpful for people looking for a long distance relationship from their wall charger.

RAVPower 30W/6A 4-Port USB Wall Charger review

RAVPower 1

I am always on the hunt for an open outlet to charge my devices. And where are they located? Generally behind some piece of furniture! It’s a wonder I haven’t become a contortionist by now after all the practice I’ve had squeezing into narrow spaces to plug in our phones and tablets. Older houses or hotels make finding an outlet especially challenging with a distinct lack of this precious real estate. Hence, there is an increased demand for multiport wall chargers. The RAVPower 30W/6A 4-port USB Wall Charger is one of many that are currently available. How well does this charger work and is there anything that makes it stand out from the plethora of wall chargers out there? Let’s take a look.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Model: RP-UC07

The RAVPower 4-port USB Wall Charger measures 3.6 x 3.5 x 1.2in, is made of hard plastic, and is small and robust enough to handle travel.

RAVPower 5

The technical specification of the the RAVPower wall charger are printed on the bottom of the device. Also located on the bottom are four rubber pads to prevent furniture scratches when the charger is placed on a desk or nightstand.

RAVPower 4 e1398142512793

Located on the back of the wall charger is a place to insert the detachable power cord which is 3.84 feet long (117cm). Having a cord to plug into an outlet avoids blocking the outlet which is possible with a charger that has no cord and plugs directly into the wall. In addition, this charger allows you to have easier access to the USB ports because it can be placed on a desk or nightstand. However, because the power cord plugs into the back, the unit will not sit flush against a wall.

RAVPower 3 e1398142637812

Located on the front of the charger is a blue LED light that illuminates to indicate that the unit has power. This light is excessively bright. It drove me and my husband crazy at night while trying to sleep because even when facing away from us, it was bright enough to illuminate an entire wall. We first tried to place tape over the light but since the light protrudes slightly from the body of the charger, the tape would pull away, leaving a gap for light to stream through. We ended up having to cover it with small amount of Fun Tak (mounting putty), which molds around the light leaving no gaps. However, if you are in a hotel and have need of a night light, this LED will absolutely serve this purpose. In addition to the light being extremely bright, another drawback of the RAVPower USB Wall Charger is that this light is the only status light available on the device. There are no others to determine whether or not your devices are charging or when they are fully charged.

RAVPower 2

Also located on the front of the charger are four USB ports to charge up to four devices simultaneously. The two USB ports shown on the left of the unit on the above photo are the 5V/2.1A ports used to charge iPads and Android tablets while the two on the right are the 5V/1A ports used to charge cell phones. The connections between the USB ports and the USB connectors are a good tight fit and another thing to note is that while the devices are connected and charging, the charger gets slightly warm.

RAVPower 8

I used the RAVPower 4-port USB Wall Charger to simultaneously charge our two HTC One X phones and two Google Nexus 7 (2012) tablets several times and compared them to their OEM adapter charging times. After performing these trials I found that the 5V/1A ports fully charged our phones (1% – 100%) within four to five hours which was as fast the the HTC charging adapter. However, our Nexus 7 (2012) tablets took almost twice as long to fully charge (1% – 100%) when compared to using their OEM charging adapters (about eight to nine hours vs. five hours, respectively).  I tried charging a Nexus 7 tablet alone on the RAVPower wall charger but received the same paltry results. I then wondered if this was a problem for other tablets. I tested the charging time of my niece’s iPad 3 using the RAVPower charger and found that the charging rate was between five and six hours for a complete charge. No problems there. So, even though the Nexus line of devices is supposed to be compatible with the RAVPower wall charger, the charging rate for our Nexus 7 tablets was much slower than expected.

Although nothing in my mind really makes the RAVPower 30W/6A 4-Port USB Wall Charger stand out among many of its competitors, it seems well built, is portable, and is handy for charging multiple devices simultaneously when you travel or are short on outlets.  Even though the charging rate is incredibly slow for the Google Nexus 7 (2012) tablet using the RAVPower charger, the tablet does charge and thus this charger will suffice when in a pinch. Because this charger uses a power cord instead of directly plugging into the wall, it avoids blocking other outlets and allows easy access to the USB ports when placed on a desk or nightstand. The bright blue LED light can drive a person to distraction, but this is easily remedied by placing mounting putty over the light. As long as you don’t mind the slow charging rates of the Nexus 7 (2012) tablets, the lack of status lights to determine charging status, and the blinding power indicator LED light, the RAVPower 4-port USB Wall Charger gets the job done.

Updates 07/13/16

We still use this charger and it does a wonderful job of charging our devices without any issues. Even though two of the ports are one amp ports, there are two others available that are 2.1 amp ports. The charger is particularly handy when traveling. The blue LED light is still quite blinding but works well as a nightlight when you need one!

RAVPower Bolt RP-UC07 Four-Port USB Wall Charger Review

The ravpower bolt allows easy connection and charging of up to four devices simultaneously via usb and wall power. read on as we take a look..

Tyler Bernath

With the increasing amount of mobile devices we all enjoy, the need to charge and maintain these devices has been a bit of a challenge. With each device coming equipped with its own wall charging solution, having the space to plug in all those chargers comes at a premium.

With the growing popularity of smart devices, and even mobile storage, we watched as the industry transitioned from standard wall chargers with direct wired cables to using the USB standard for both charging and data connections. This move opened an entire new industry for third party vendors to design devices around the standard, to combine multiple chargers into one device.

The RAVPower Bolt Four-Port Charger is one of these solutions. Featuring four ports with a total of 6A of output power, the Bolt is capable of charging the most demanding devices in our lives. The MSRP of the RAVPower Bolt comes in at $19.99, with a one-year warranty.

Scope of delivery for the RAVPower Bolt includes the charger, reading materials, and power cord.

RAVPower Bolt RP-UC07 Four-Port USB Wall Charger Review 03

The RAVPower Bolt comes in a square form factor measuring 3.6" x 3.5" x 1.2". On the top of the unit, you will find the power output shown above each port.

RAVPower Bolt RP-UC07 Four-Port USB Wall Charger Review 04

The back of the unit houses the power input.

RAVPower Bolt RP-UC07 Four-Port USB Wall Charger Review 05

The front of the unit houses each of the four USB ports. The first two being 5v at 2.1 amps, with the next two offering 5v at 1 amp. To the far right, the LED lights up blue when power is applied.

The RAVPower Bolt is a rather simple solution to the growing need for power to charge our mobile devices. The build quality is pretty solid, with all four ports allowing easy connection of charging cables. In addition, the included power cord allows you to extend your charging away from the outlet by a good four feet, mitigating any outlet blocking.

In my experience with the Bolt, I found it to be a quite capable charger. I was able to plug in my iPad, iPhone, Nokia Lumia, and Bluetooth headphones, and charge them all at once. I have also found it quite capable at charging PS4 controllers rather quickly; though, if you choose to do so, use the 1A ports so you don't destroy your battery.

Pricing of the RAVPower Bolt sits at $19.99, and comes in a choice of white or black. The Bolt carries a one-year warranty.

RavPower PD Pioneer 65W 4-port desktop charger review: Compact charging hub

Published on March 18, 2021

RavPower PD Pioneer 65W 4-port desktop charger

What we like, what we don't like.

Gallium Nitride (GaN) chargers are creeping up the list of best phone charging accessories . The promise of cooler, more efficient charging in a more compact form factor is irresistible. The RavPower Power Delivery (PD) Pioneer is a compact GaN charger promising 65W of charging power and four ports to connect up your gadgets.

The PD Pioneer ($59.99) is a bit more expensive than a simple phone charger, but promises so much more. I’ve been extensively testing out the charger’s capabilities with various gadgets. Let’s explore what it has to offer in this RavPower PD Pioneer 65W 4-port desktop charger review.

What you need to know about the RavPower PD Pioneer 65W 4-port desktop charger

RavPower PD Pioneer GaN profile

  • RavPower PD Pioneer 65W 4-port desktop charger: $49.99/£45.99/€49.99/Rs. 11,999

At 158g, the RavPower PD Pioneer 4-port desktop charger is lightweight and extremely portable. It’s built as a hub rather than a wall adapter, so you’ll also have to carry around a regular AC cable too. While this is included in the box, there are no USB cables bundled in. As for color, Black is the only option.

See also: What is GaN and what does it mean for your tech?

There are four ports available for charging your gadgets: two USB-C and two USB-A. The USB-C ports support the USB PD protocol , with up to 3A of current at 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V, and 20V. That’s sufficient to charge up some of the more demanding USB-C laptops on the market.

The two “Smart” USB-A ports support a wide range of charging standards and cap out at 18W of power each. These ports boast Qualcomm’s Quick Charge, Samsung Adaptive Fast Charge, Apple 2.4A charging, and HUAWEI Fast Charge. So you are well covered for quickly powering up a wide range of gadgets using older USB ports and charging methods.

What’s good?

RavPower PD Pioneer GaN phones

The RavPower PD Pioneer offers more than what you’ll need to charge a single device. In my testing it delivered 60W into an HONOR MagicBook Pro laptop and 53W into a Microsoft Surface Pro X. That was enough to charge both devices in under two hours. but is a fraction slower than their boxed charger speeds.

The adapter can charge up a range of USB PD and Quick Charge gadgets, including iPhones  and the Nintendo Switch . Two USB-C and two USB-A ports feel like the perfect balance of connections for your older and newer gadgets. The vast range of supported standards on the USB-A ports is exceptional.

The RavPower PD Pioneer handles all these charging options with energy conversion efficiency above 82%. That’s also in the ballpark for other GaN chargers I’ve tested.

The power situation becomes a little more complicated when connecting up multiple gadgets. One port caps out at 45W and the second at just 18W. Both speeds charge a laptop and smartphone in a timely manner. I got 41W into an HONOR MagicBook Pro and 14W into Galaxy S21 Plus at once, which matches the capabilities you’ll find from other multi-port adapters.

What’s not so good?

RavPower PD Pioneer GaN specs

Plugging a device into each port sees the USB-C ports drop to just 12V/1.5A with 18W of power over USB PD. The USB-A ports charge at only 5V/2.4A. Their support for Quick Charge and some other standards also drops off. The slower voltage compared to the 65W charging tagline is an inevitable trade-off of so many ports.

On a test charge I got 16W into a laptop, 15W into a tablet, 8.6W into the Galaxy S21, and 9.2W into an iPhone 12 all at once. This setup isn’t all that useful for charging more demanding devices like laptops and tablets. It’s also less efficient with wall-to-device power delivery, falling to around 76%.

RavPower produced the table below to help understand how the setup works. Based on my experience, this is how the charger operates in all its various configurations. It’s quite confusing and is the charger’s biggest drawback.

Overall, the RavPower PD Pioneer is great for charging up to three devices at once. More devices exceed the 65W power supply capacity.

While the charger is groundbreaking for GaN technology, it’s missing support for the latest USB PD PPS specification. A selection of Samsung smartphones require the emerging specification for fast charging. This is definitely worth noting if you’re a Galaxy S21 owner, as 15W takes quite a long time to charge.

RavPower PD Pioneer 65W 4-port desktop charger review: Should I buy it?

RavPower PD Pioneer GaN front

Despite the multi-port adapters on the market these days, you’ll struggle to find many 4-port options that range to 65W on a single port. As a result, the RavPower PD Pioneer 4-port is a suitable replacement for a 60W laptop charger, and a desktop hub for your smartphones and other gadgets.

If you don’t require four ports, you could check out other 65W plugs such as the AUKEY Omnia 65W PD GaN charger . There’s also the Anker PowerPort Atom III Slim if you don’t need to charge a 60W laptop. Although given the slight price difference after regular discounts, the RavPower option remains competitive.

RavPower’s 4-port desktop charger is available at the discounted rate of $49.99/£45.99/€49.99 ($15 off the RRP), making it a very good value for money. Due to import costs, the price in India is high, so we can’t recommend this charger there.

This also isn’t a suitable adapter for Samsung Galaxy S21 owners. Overall, the RavPower PD Pioneer PD 65W desktop charger has all the bases covered to charge a wide range of gadgets from a single adapter.

The Best USB Phone Charger

Sarah Witman

By Sarah Witman and Nick Guy

If you’ve ever scrambled out the door with your phone’s battery in the red, you know that power is precious, and the faster you can get it, the better. The Anker PowerPort III Nano is the best option for charging any phone fast: It’s tiny and inexpensive, and it can get a fully drained phone battery to more than 50% full in half an hour.

USB-C chargers can top up phones faster than older USB-A models can, and they work with both iPhones and Android devices. Most phones, handheld game consoles, and other devices that charge via USB-C come with a compatible charging cable, but otherwise you may have to buy a cable separately .

Everything we recommend

This small and inexpensive charger will fast-charge any phone, including iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, and Google Pixel handsets. But it has only one port.

RAVPower PD 30W 2-Port USB-C Fast Charger (RP-PC144)

The best charger with usb-c and usb-a ports.

Anker PowerPort 4

Best for charging lots of gear.

Affordable, quick, and compact, this charger can provide fast power to as many as four devices at once, although not at the maximum speeds USB-C offers.

If you want the smallest power brick available that’ll charge your phone at the fastest speeds, we recommend the single-port Anker PowerPort III Nano . It’s the same size as Apple’s 5-watt charger (the one that Apple used to include in iPhone boxes), and it supplies up to 20 W over USB-C.

That’s enough power to charge most phones—whether you have an iPhone, a Samsung Galaxy model, a Google Pixel handset, or some other Android phone with fast-charging capabilities—more than halfway full in just 30 minutes. This model also powers Apple’s MagSafe wireless charging system at its maximum 15 W.

  • Cable: 6 feet, C-to-Lightning (compatible with iPhone 14 and earlier)

Although it costs about twice as much as of this writing, and doesn’t include a cable, the Boost Charge Pro 45W Dual USB-C Wall Charger outpaces our top pick in several key ways. Its two USB-C ports have a combined maximum output of a whopping 45 W, so you can fast-charge two small devices at once (such as an iPhone and an Apple Watch) or one larger device (such as an iPad Pro).

It’s slightly heavier than our top pick but still weighs just a few ounces, and its folding plug and rounded edges make it easy to pack in a pocket or purse.

  • Port one: 45 W USB-C (or 25 W when both ports are in use)
  • Port two: 45 W USB-C (or 20 W when both ports are in use)
  • Dimensions: 1.8 by 1.6 by 1.5 inches
  • Cable: none

The RAVPower PD 30W 2-Port USB-C Fast Charger (RP-PC144) is more powerful than the smaller Anker PowerPort III Nano. Its USB-C port can charge at up to 30 W, and its USB-A port allows you to charge a second device at up to 18 W (when both ports are in use, the charger has a total maximum output of 30 W). In our testing, the USB-C port charged a phone to 85% in an hour, compared with 70% from the USB-A port.

  • Port one: 30 W USB-C (or 18 W when both ports are in use)
  • Port two: 18 W USB-A (or 12 W when both ports are in use)
  • Dimensions: 1.9 by 1.9 by 1.2 inches
  • Cable: 3 feet, C-to-Lightning (compatible with iPhone 14 and earlier)

The Anker PowerPort 4 is the model to choose if you carry a lot of gear—say, a phone, a smartwatch, a power bank, and Bluetooth headphones—or if you’re traveling with companions. Each of its four ports supports a 12 W power draw, as fast a charge as you can get from standard USB-A. No other reliable four-port charger packs that kind of power into such a diminutive size and at such a low price.

  • Port one: 12 W USB-A
  • Port two: 12 W USB-A
  • Port three: 12 W USB-A
  • Port four: 12 W USB-A
  • Dimensions: 2.6 by 2.6 by 1.1 inches

The research

Why you should trust us, who this is for, how we picked and tested, our pick: anker powerport iii nano, upgrade pick: boost charge pro 45w dual usb-c wall charger, also great: ravpower pd 30w dual port compact 2-port usb c fast charger (rp-pc144), also great: anker powerport 4, other good usb-c chargers, what to look forward to, the competition.

I’ve been a science journalist for nearly a decade, covering a wide variety of topics from particle physics to satellite remote sensing. Since joining Wirecutter in 2017, I’ve reported on USB-C cables , power banks , surge protectors , and more.

The current version of this guide builds on years of work by Wirecutter’s Nick Guy, who has reviewed mobile accessories since 2011 and covered them for Wirecutter for over six years.

If the USB charger that came with your phone or tablet is broken or lost—or, as in the case of the iPhone 12 or newer, it never came with one—a new third-party charger may be the most cost-effective replacement. But even if you still have the original chargers for all your devices, you might want to consider something that can charge your devices from a wall outlet more quickly, or charge multiple devices at the same time.

Most people have multiple devices that charge via USB—tablets, smartphones, power banks, e-readers, portable speakers, Bluetooth headphones, fitness trackers, and more—which frequently need to be recharged at the same time. Good multiport chargers cost only a little more than single-port chargers and aren’t much larger. If you think you might take advantage of a second port, they’re worth a few dollars extra, but you’ll save money and reduce bulk with a single-port model.

Multiport chargers are also great for travel. Instead of having to pack a gaggle of chargers for the family—or when you’re traveling alone, for your phone, tablet, headset, and Bluetooth speaker—you can bring one charger that handles everything. (Of course, you’ll have to pack the appropriate USB-C , Lightning , and/or Micro-USB cables , too.)

Many phones, such as the iPhone 12 and newer, can be recharged as fast as possible (up to roughly 50% charged in about 30 minutes) with a 20 W charger. Although you can still use a less-powerful charger with these phones, they’ll simply charge more slowly.

Battery percentage when charging an iPhone 13

several chargers we recommend.

After poring over charging catalogs from dozens of companies, all with established track records of great products and service, we whittled the list down based on the following criteria:

  • USB-C ports with 18 to 30 W output: USB-C ports allow most phones to charge faster than they can with USB-A, and many of the latest models can take advantage of even faster USB-C Power Delivery (PD) charging speeds, drawing 18 to 30 W of power. Having higher output doesn’t hurt, but there’s no reason to buy anything with more than 30 W per port specifically for your phone. Those more powerful (and more expensive) chargers are better options if you also need to charge a tablet, a handheld game console, or a laptop .
  • USB-A ports with 12 W or QuickCharge 3.0 output: USB-A charging maxes out at 12 W (5 volts, 2.4 amps) for Apple devices and many Android phones, while some of the latter can charge faster with Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 3.0 standard. For chargers with one or more USB-A ports, we prefer that each USB-A port can supply at least 12 W.
  • Power-to-dollar value: We determine the relative value of each charger by the total power it can deliver across its ports. This allows us to rule out models that are unnecessarily expensive.
  • Size: For easy packing and storage, we generally prefer smaller chargers to larger ones. A little more volume is fine if that means more power or more ports, but all other things being equal, smaller is better.
  • Multiple USB ports: If you regularly need to charge two or more devices at once, a larger charger with multiple ports is often a better value than a smaller one that charges a single device.

To find the top options in each category, we put the finalists through several tests:

  • USB-A ports: We test the maximum power draw from each port by plugging in a variable power load and an ammeter, which allows us to finely control the power flow and determine whether it matches the advertised rate. We start with the power load set to 0 amps and then turn it up until it matches the promised amperage, ensuring the voltage stays within a range of 4.75 volts to 5.25 volts. We repeat that test on each charger’s other ports, confirming that every port behaves as expected and that, combined, they match the indicated output.
  • USB-C ports: USB-C uses digital communication between devices to verify charging speeds in a way that USB-A doesn’t, so we use the Total Phase USB Power Delivery Analyzer and its Data Center Software to measure and record this data, including the advertised power profiles, the steady state output, and whether any errors occur in charging.
  • Combined power output: After testing each individual port, we test the combined output when each is pushed to the maximum. The best chargers support their fastest rates on each port at the same time, without added devices slowing anything down.

The Anker PowerPort III Nano charger

Today’s USB-C phone chargers are tiny and cheap—often between $10 and $20, sometimes even with a good cable. Anker’s PowerPort III Nano is the best, most compact option for sending the fastest possible charge to most phones, capable of delivering 20 W over USB-C.

It’s impressively compact. The PowerPort III Nano is very small. Measuring 1.75 inches long, including the non-folding prongs, and only a little more than an inch wide and tall, its dimensions are almost identical to those of the 5 W charger that Apple packed with most iPhones for the past decade. It’s less than half the size of Apple’s comparable 20 W charger.

Size comparison between Anker and Aukey 20-watt chargers and the larger Apple charger

It has only one port, but it delivers up to 20 W. The PowerPort III Nano has a single USB-C port. Our testing hardware showed that the port worked as advertised, with a proper 20 W power draw measured at 9 volts/2.2 amps. (It also supports 15 W charging, which makes it compatible with USB-C devices that don’t use the Power Delivery standard, such as some Android phones.)

As with all of the other USB-C chargers we recommend in this guide, you should see most phones charge from empty to somewhere between 50% and 55% full in half an hour or so, compared with 20% full in the same time period on a 5 W charger. In fact, during our tests the iPhone 13 battery reached about 52% capacity in that time and 83% in an hour.

It works with Apple MagSafe accessories. The Anker charger also provides full power to MagSafe wireless charging accessories, including Apple’s MagSafe Charger and MagSafe Duo Charger and the others we recommend .

It comes with a cable. This charger comes with a 6-foot version of one of our favorite cables , the Anker PowerLine II, with USB-C and Lightning connectors. (That’s great for owners of older iPhones, but if you have an iPhone 15 or Android device you’ll need to supply your own cable.) It has sturdy housings, supports up to 18 W charging speeds, and its MFi certification means it meets Apple’s standards for safety and performance.

It has a long warranty, and Anker’s customer service is trustworthy. Anker’s 18-month warranty is on a par with many of its competitors’ coverage offerings. On the rare occasions Wirecutter staffers have had to take advantage of the protection, they’ve found the process to be quick and easy.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • Its stationary plug gives it a less-streamlined shape for packing compared with those with a foldable plug.
  • Although it has enough power to charge most phones at top speed, it falls short of some phones’ full capabilities (like the iPhone 14 and newer, which can draw up to 27 W).

Our pick for best usb-c charger that can fast-charge two devices at once, the Belkin Boost Charge Pro Dual 45W USB-C GaN Wall Charger.

If you’d like to fast-charge two devices at once—say, an iPhone 15 and a Kindle—the Boost Charge Pro 45W Dual USB-C Wall Charger is your best bet. It even has enough power to fast-charge one larger device, such as an iPad Pro or Chromebook.

It has two powerful USB-C ports. Both of the Belkin’s USB-C ports are capable of charging a single device faster than our top pick (we measured up to 45 W from each, though most phones max out at 30 W charging speeds). And when charging two devices, we measured up to 25 W from the upper port and 20 W from the lower port, which is still enough power to fast-charge most phones.

It has an easily packable size and shape. Unlike our top pick, the Belkin has a folding plug, and it weighs just a couple of ounces more. Despite being a bit larger (it measures 1.8 by 1.6 by 1.5 inches), its curved edges make it easy to slip into a pocket or purse.

It has a long warranty and good customer support. Belkin backs this charger with a two-year warranty, which is even longer than that of our top pick, and we’ve found their customer support to be responsive and reliable.

It’s on the pricier side but offers good value. This is one of the most expensive models we tested, despite not including a charging cable, but it packs a lot of power into a small package. Plus, if you need a cable for an iPhone 15 or Android phone, it’s available in a bundle with a 6.6-foot USB-C cable for $10 more, as of this writing (you’d likely pay as much or more for any of our favorite USB-C cables ).

The RavPower charger.

The RAVPower PD 30W 2-Port USB C Fast Charger (RP-PC144) is the best dual-port charger for charging your phone at the maximum speed, no matter what kind of charging port it uses.

It delivers high speed from both ports, even at the same time. Its USB-C port can charge a single device at up to 30 W, and its USB-A port can do so at up to 18 W, allowing you to charge your phone two to three times faster than with the standard chargers included with most phones. When both ports are in use, it has a total max output of 30 W, supplying up to 18 W from the USB-C port and up to 12 W from the USB-A port.

It’s a great option if your devices aren’t all USB-C yet. Although a USB-C port is smaller and faster than USB-A, and works with more kinds of devices, the USB-C standard is not yet ubiquitous. This charger combines the benefits of USB-C with the convenience of USB-A, which means you can charge most phones as fast as possible, while also powering a second device on the USB-A port at a respectable rate.

It’s nearly as fast as our top pick. In our tests, the RP-PC144 performed exactly as promised. You can expect an iPhone 13 to charge to about 36% in a half hour on the USB-A port and closer to 50% on the USB-C port.

Despite offering two ports, it’s still quite small. This power brick is larger than what comes with most phones, but it isn’t huge. It measures about 1.9 inches long by 1.9 inches wide by 1.2 inches thick—noticeably smaller than the Apple 30W USB-C Power Adapter —and weighs less than 3 ounces. Plus, a folding plug makes it convenient for travel.

The RAVPower RP-PC144 USB-C charger (in black) next to the white Apple 30W USB-C charger, which is larger and has one fewer port.

Its warranty is even longer than that of our top pick. RAVPower backs this model with a 30-month warranty, which gives you more time than the rest of our picks to ensure that it’s working properly.

It comes with a (short) cable. Included with the charger is a 3-foot cable that can connect a USB-C port to a Lightning-powered device, such as an iPhone 14 or older. (Owners of the iPhone 15 or Android devices will need to bring their own C-to-C cable.) It is sturdily built and packs up small for travel, though we’d generally prefer a longer cable for everyday use.

Our pick for best USB phone charger with four USB-A ports, the Anker PowerPort 4.

The Anker PowerPort 4 offers four USB-A ports in a compact design, making it ideal for a couple who’s traveling (or one person who uses a ton of gear). It lets you charge as many as four devices at once—say, two iPhones and two Apple Watches—albeit at a slower pace than our other picks.

It’s one of the fastest multiport chargers we’ve tested. Despite its advertised 40 W maximum output, we measured 12 W draw from all four ports at the same time, for about 48 W total. Unless your device has Quick Charge capabilities, that’s as fast as it can charge via USB-A, and many multiport chargers like this can’t provide that much power to every port at the same time. Based on our experience with the PowerPort 4, we can say that even if the speeds do drop a bit in practical use, you can still be sure of fast USB-A charging across all the ports.

It’s bulkier than one- or two-port chargers, but still not huge. At just over an inch thick, the PowerPort 4 has the same thickness as our top pick, and its largest sides measure 2.6 by 2.6 inches—small enough to plug into a standard wall outlet without blocking the second socket.

While many multiport chargers have a long cord between the charger’s body and the wall outlet, the Anker PowerPort 4 plugs directly into the outlet, so it’s less bulky to carry. And like most of our picks, it has a convenient fold-up plug.

It’s relatively affordable. Although it doesn’t come with a cable, it’s one of the most inexpensive multiport chargers we’ve tested.

It has the same warranty as our top pick. The PowerPort 4 comes with an 18-month warranty and is backed by Anker’s reliably solid customer service.

If you’d prefer a charger that’s more powerful than our top pick , adds a folding plug, and comes in more colors : Get the Anker 511 Nano III 30W Charger (A2147) . It has a single USB-C port, supports charging speeds up to 30 W, and weighs just 1.4 ounces. It comes in several colors—including black, white, light green, light blue, and light purple—and has a handy fold-up plug. It doesn’t come with a cable, but at this writing it’s less expensive than our top pick, costing just $15.

If you need two chargers and want the best deal : Get the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20W Wall Charger (RP-PC150) . It’s nearly identical to our top pick , but only comes in a two-pack and is out of stock at this writing. But if you need multiple chargers anyway, this one has great specs and is a better deal than buying two of that model (or any of our other picks).

If you’d prefer a charger with a slimmer shape than our top pick , plus a folding plug : Get the Belkin WCH009dqWH . Its USB-C port supports up to 20 W charging speeds, it has a folding plug, and it has an appealing matte texture (though it only comes in white). Weighing just 1.6 ounces, it has a flatter profile than any model we tested, so it doesn’t jut out as far from the wall.

It also comes with a USB-C charging cable, though it’s nearly half the length of the one that comes with our top pick, and the bundle costs about $10 more than our pick at this writing.

If you want a charger with a higher max output and more color options than our RAVPower pick , plus international plug adapters included in the box : Get the Casetify PowerThru 33W Fast Charger . It splits 33 W between each of its ports (one USB-A and one USB-C) and has a folding plug. As of this writing, it’s available in two color schemes (black/white and blue/pink) and weighs just 2.7 ounces.

Compared to most models we tested, it has a funky shape (in a good way) that still leaves plenty of room for a second plug on your wall outlet. It also comes with two international plug adapters, which can be helpful if you’re a frequent traveler. On the downside, it’s expensive ($42 at this writing) and doesn’t come with a cable.

If you want a wall charger that doubles as a power bank, and you don’t mind that it’s heavier and pricier than our picks : Get the Anker PowerCore Fusion 10000 . It has as much battery life as any of our favorite power banks , and its fold-up plug makes it easy to charge a couple small devices (or recharge the power bank itself) while on the go.

It has a USB-C PD port and USB-A port that can charge up to two devices with 20 W of combined output power, and handy battery-status lights that tell you when it needs to be recharged. It comes in either black or white, and its plastic exterior has a pleasantly grippy texture.

On the downside, it’s expensive ($55 at this writing), it doesn’t come with a cable, and it’s significantly bigger and heavier (9.6 ounces) than our picks.

Scosche launched the PowerVolt PD30 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2024, and we plan to test it against our current picks when it becomes available this fall. It has a single USB-C port with a 30 W rated max output, a compact shape, and a fold-up plug.

This is not a comprehensive list of all the USB phone chargers we’ve tested. We have removed any models that have been discontinued or no longer meet our requirements.

  • Belkin WCH001dqWH
  • Mophie Speedport 30
  • Otterbox 30W Premium Pro Fast Charge
  • Satechi 30W USB-C PD GaN Wall Charger

  • Mophie Speedport 20
  • Satechi 20W USB-C PD Wall Charger
  • Spigen PowerArc 20W ArcStation Pro

The following models are more powerful than our top pick, but they weigh more and don’t add any standout features:

  • Anker Nano II 30W Charger (A2665)
  • Nomad 30W USB-C Power Adapter
  • Spigen ArcStation Pro 27W Wall Charger

The following models are as powerful as our top pick, but they weigh more and don’t add any standout features:

  • Anker 511 Nano Pro 20W Charger (A2637)
  • Apple 20W USB-C Power Adapter
  • Invzi 20W USB-C PD Charger YM20A

Multiport chargers

The following models have two fast-charging USB-C ports and a folding plug like our upgrade pick , but they’re bulkier and less powerful:

  • Anker 324 40W Charger (A2628)
  • RAVPower PD Pioneer 40W 2-Port Wall Charger (RP-PC152)
  • Spigen PowerArc 40W ArcStation Pro

Like our upgrade pick, the Anker 521 Nano Pro 40W Charger (A2038) has two fast-charging USB-C ports. However, it is heavier, has a lower total output, and lacks a folding plug.

The Aukey Focus Duo 30W PD Charger (PA-D1) has a fast-charging USB-C port, a USB-A port, and a folding plug, but it weighs more than otherwise comparable models.

The Nimble Wally Mini Wall Charger has a fast-charging USB-C port, a USB-A port, and a folding plug, but it is heavier and has a lower total output than otherwise comparable models.

The RAVPower 60W 6-Port Desktop USB Charging Station with iSmart (RP-PC028) and RAVPower 60W 6-Port Desktop Charger with QC 3.0 (RP-PC029) have more USB-A ports than other models we tested, but they’re too large for travel and lack USB-C ports.
