Geneva, Switzerland – November 2, 2021 – MSC Cruises confirmed today the details of the updated itinerary for MSC Bellissima’s winter season sailing out of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia beginning on November 6. The ship is now due to offer 7-night cruises calling at the Saudi Arabian ports of King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) and Yanbu, then on to Aqaba in Jordan before returning to Jeddah. Along this updated itinerary, guests will be able to enjoy an unparalleled voyage of discovery, tradition and culture combined with sun, beach and relaxation.
Watch the video here .
Booked and prospective guests should note the following updates to the original itinerary:
• The port of Safaga in Egypt has been cancelled as many countries from where our guests originate currently have the country listed as a high-risk destination due to the pandemic and on return they would be obliged to undergo quarantine. • Other changes have been made to further optimize and enrich this brand-new itinerary to offer guests the best possible opportunity to discover everything that Saudi Arabia has to offer. MSC Bellissima will now do an overnight in Yanbu so that guests can visit AlUla, described as The World's Masterpiece. AlUla is one of the oldest cities in the Arabian Peninsula and home to Hegra, a UNESCO World Heritage site. For those looking for sun, sand and sea, there are opportunities for visiting a secluded island, snorkeling at the coral reef or a real Saudi experience, an Arabian desert camp. • KAEC has been also been added to the itinerary to give guests the opportunity to enjoy a sightseeing tour of the holy city of Medina, known as “the Enlightened City” because of the city’s pivotal role in the Prophet Muhammad’s life. Also, from KAEC, guests can enjoy a full day out with a stunning pristine beach making the most of the beautiful winter sun and the warm turquoise waters.
Today MSC Cruises also revealed highlights of their program of discovery ashore, with a host of shore excursion options specially designed to enrich the cruise experience in this incredible region. Highlights of this include:
JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA : As the ship does not leave the port until late in the evening, guests will be able to check-in and embark the ship and then go ashore in the afternoon to make the most of their day. Saudi Arabia’s second largest city blends history and modernity and for a taster of everything it offers. A City Of Culture & History tour offers a journey through centuries of culture and traditions - dive into the old town of Al Balad (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and experience the colorful artwork, oriental scents and traditional architecture that the city is known for. KING ABDULLAH ECONOMIC CITY (KAEC): KAEC’s construction only began in 2005 and this modern metropolis is set to become a popular tourist destination. It’s close proximity to the second most holy Islamic city, Medina, makes this port an ideal destination to visit the site. The Medina Sightseeing tours offer a unique glimpse into the second most important site of Islamic pilgrimage. For guests looking for a day of tranquil relaxation, there is a choice of two beach escapes - Pure Beach or Yam Beach where guests may enjoy their dose of music, sun and sea, while catching up on their tans. YANBU, SAUDI ARABIA : The ship will remain in port overnight and into the next day to allow guests the opportunity to visit one of the unmissable highlights of Saudi Arabia with a visit to Hegra (Al-Hijr Archaeological Site), AlUla ancient town and the Elephant Rock . Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage site Hegra, is an ancient city hidden in the sands of the desert and the second most important city of the Nabateans. A guided tour will allow guests to discover some of its monuments – there are more than a hundred at the site. the ancient city of AlUla, situated in a desert setting in the Hijaz mountains and where pilgrims, travelers and permanent settlers have gathered over the centuries. Surrounded by an ancient oasis, the old town of AlUla is dominated by a citadel dating back to the 10th century and has some 900 brick houses, 400 shops and an atmospheric maze of alleyways and squares. Finally, Elephant Rock is a must for any holiday photo album - the two monolithic rocks, the "trunk" and the "body", which stand out against the desert backdrop have been shaped over the centuries by the weather into the shape of an elephant. Yanbu is known as “the diving capital of Saudi Arabia” and adventure-seekers need look no further than Snorkeling at Iona Coral Reef. Enjoy a kaleidoscope of fish, the marine flora and the sunken wreck of the British ship Iona. Enjoy this adventure swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Yanbu; its snorkelling spot is replete with some of the most amazing reef systems in the world. For guests who prefer to kick back and enjoy the sun for their holiday, the Baridi Island Getaway offers hours of relaxation, fun, sun and a crystal-clear sea on a secluded spot of Baridi Island. For guests who want to experience the Arabian desert they can enjoy the magic of a desert camp under the stars- the perfect ingredients for this unforgettable excursion. Enjoy the romance of the desert at night and connect with nature and the landscape. Learn the way of life of the camp inhabitants and have fun with the different camp activities. This will be a feast for all senses that will reconnect you with ancient traditions and with the desert nature. AQABA FOR PETRA, JORDAN : An undeniable highlight is a visit to the Wonders of Petra - the ancient city and UNESCO World Heritage site in the middle of the Jordanian desert. After laying hidden for centuries, this jewel of early engineering was rediscovered in 1812. Hewn out of the solid rock by Nabatean Arabs more than 2.000 years ago, it served as their capital city and featured a sophisticated water conduit system that turned the city into an artificial oasis. For those intrigued by the romance of the Arabian Desert, the timeless and beautiful Wadi Rum area is full of rolling sand dunes in a beautiful valley. The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times and guests will get to discover it in the most modern of ways, riding through the magnificent scenery in a 4WD vehicle and ending the day with delicious Arabic tea in a traditional Bedouin tent. Port Jeddah cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Mecca. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.
Port Jeddah (officially "Jeddah Islamic Port") is a Red Sea cruise port, Saudi Arabia's largest seaport, the second-largest Arabian/Middle East port (after Dubai 's Port Jebel Ali) and the world's 36th largest (by annual cargo shipping volumes). Jeddah is the cruise port to AlUla (~110 km / 70 mi southwest of Tayma and ~300 km / 190 mi north of Medina) as well as the holy for all Muslims cities Mecca (Makkah al-Mukarramah, approx 65 km/40 mi to the east) and Medina (Al Madinah Al Munawwarah, approx 360 km/220 mi to the north).
The 1976-founded Jeddah Islamic Port handles most of Saudi Arabia's imports (65%), including over half of the containerized cargoes. The seaport occupies a total area 12 km2 (4,6 mi2) and currently has 62 operational berths (deepwater quays with max-draft 16 m/53 ft) and overall quay length 11,2 km (7 mi). Port Jeddah (locode SAJED) can handle most of the world's largest container carriers (ULCVs/Ultra-Large Container Vessels with max cargo capacity 20,000 TEU-containers).
In late-January 2019 was signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) between RSGT-Red Sea Gateway Terminal (subsidiary of SISCO-Saudi Industrial Services) and Mawani (Saudi Ports Authority) for the development/expansion of Port Jeddah's northern part. By this SAR 2+ billion (~USD 535 M / ~EUR 440 M) project, the Port's annual container capacity was increased to 2,5 million TEUs.
The Port's dry-bulk cargoes (mainly grain and livestock) are handled by Bahri (1978-founded as National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia), the country's principal carrier (transportation and logistics company). Jeddah's annual drybulk throughput capacity is over 0,5 million tons (516,375 tons in 2022).
Besides Jeddah, Saudi Arabia's other large port cities are Dammam , Yanbu , Jubail, Gizan, Ras Al-Mishab (serving Al Batin), Ras Al-Ghar, Ras Tanura (near Dammam), Dhuba and King Abdullah KAEC (newest). All seaports (9 total) are managed by Mawani (Saudi Ports Authority) and have combined annual traffic 15,000 ships, 13 million TEUs, 530+ million cargo tonnes, 214 platforms. Ship terminal operators include the companies Zamil Operations and Maintenance (King Fahad Dock/ship repairs), United National Marine Projects (passenger and ferry stations), GSCO Ltd (TEUs), MM Group (general goods, livestock, grains), Sianco & DP World Venture (TEUs), ATCO (general goods), Tasdeer (trading and export) and RSGT Ltd (TEUs).
Jeddah Waterfront (Jeddah Corniche/2017-inaugurated) is a Red Sea coastal tourism area spanning ~30 km (19 mi). Jeddah Waterfront has capacity to handle 120,000 people (3000 parking lots) and is lined up with parks, kids playgrounds, 3x large swimming beaches (fronted with crescent moon-shaped artificial islands), 25x huts, gardens, fountains, bathrooms, outdoor fitness areas, restaurants, hotels, retail shops, USB-charging stations, info kiosks, aquarium, floating marinas (yacht docks).
Jeddah City is in Saudi Arabia's Hijazi Tihama region (Makkah Province) and the country's commercial capital, with population ~4 million. Jeddah is also Saudi Arabia's second-largest city (after Riyadh / ~7,7 million) and the country's largest resort city. The city's economy is based on shipping (port), commercial fishing, seafood processing, trade, finances, tourism (including religious tourism/pilgrimage, luxury resort vacations, premium fashion brand shopping, traditional cuisine, museums, annually held international festivals - Red Sea Film Festival, Jeddah Book Fair).
Since 2014, Al-Balad (Old City) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city's largest mosque (King Saud Mosque, 1987-built) is in the Al-Sharafeyyah District and has dome height 42 m (138 ft) and minaret height 60 m (197 ft). Saudi Arabia's highest tower (National Commercial Bank-NCB Tower/1983-built) houses AlAhli Bank (country's largest) and has height 235 m (771 ft).
In late-January 2021, Saudi Arabia launched the new cruise company "Saudi Cruise" (Jeddah-homeported operations) with which was established the country's own ship travel sector generating estimated 50,000+ tourism industry jobs. Saudi Cruise is owned by Saudi Arabia's PIF (Public Investment Fund) and part of the "Vision 2030 Plan". The new brand operates Red Sea itineraries targeting mainly foreign tourists with top-luxury, culture-themed coastal voyages. All PIF-owned subsidiaries aim to contribute to Saudi Arabia's GDP (SAR 2.95 trillion in 2018, or ~USD 790 billion/~EUR 650 billion) via non-oil revenues - planned SAR 1,2 trillion (USD 320B / EUR 265B) by 2025-Q4.
In August 2020, Silversea 's ultra-luxury ship Silver Spirit (rebranded as "Red Sea Spirit") was seasonally chartered for leisure voyages in Saudi Arabia. The scheduled for 2 months (first departure on August 27, 2020) itineraries visited Makna/Magna (Tabuk Province), Yanbu al-Bahr (Madinah Province), Ras al-Abyadh (Madinah) and Neom (Tabuk). The 600-passenger superyacht offered 3- and 4-day roundtrips from King Abdullah Port for domestic tourists only.
In April 2021, MSC and Cruise Saudi (fully-owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund) announced a partnership for launching Red Sea cruises in 2021-2022 winter by homeporting in Jeddah the ship MSC Magnifica .
- A framework agreement in Riyadh was signed by Pierfrancesco Vago (MSC's Executive Chairman) and Fawaz Farooqui (Cruise Saudi's Managing Director).
- MSC Magnifica was scheduled to operate 7-day Red Sea voyages (November 2021 through March 2022), that visit 3 Saudi ports - including weekly calls to Port Al-Wajh (gateway to the UNESCO site Hegra in Al-Ula).
- In addition to Magnifica's Red Sea sailings, MSC Virtuosa had scheduled an Arabian Gulf 2021 winter season (December 2021 through March 2022) with visits to Prot Dammam and the Al-Ahsa Oasis.
- With the two MSC boats, Cruise Saudi expected ~170,000 tourists during the winter 2021-2022 season.
- MSC's Saudi Arabia voyages were also offered as fly-cruise deals with fares inclusive of direct flights between Europe and Jeddah via Saudia (fka Saudi Arabian Airlines). As part of the agreement, Saudia's flight schedules were modified to fit the two MSC liners' homeport times (departure and arrival).
On July 29, 2021, MSC and Cruise Saudi signed a 5-year agreement (thru 2026) for preferential berthing rights at Port Jeddah. The signing event was held onboard MSC Bellissima (docked in Jeddah). The deal was signed by Pierfrancesco Vago (MSC's Executive Chairman) and Fawaz Farooqui (Cruise Saudi's Managing Director). The ceremony was attended by local dignitaries, Saudi Tourism Authority and Saudi Ports Authority officials, Saudi media and travel representatives. Bellissima had scheduled 21x roundtrips from Jeddah (August-October 2021) with 3-4-night voyages visiting Safaga-Luxor (Egypt) or Aqaba-Petra (Jordan).
Next table shows the 7-night/8-day itinerary (Jeddah roundtrip) as call ports and times.
Prices started from ~USD 1130 (EUR 950 / GBP 816) per person with double occupancy.
The ultra-luxury brand Scenic Cruises signed with Saudi Arabia a seasonal charter deal for the Scenic Eclipse superyacht to do a series of Red Sea itineraries (July 17 through December 9, 2021). The voyages (for Saudis only) were roundtrips from homeport Jeddah and visiting Yanbu (beach destination with watersports activities, including Iona ship's wreck / a British merchant steamer/1915-sunk which can be explored by the ship's submarine, as well as via snorkeling and scuba-diving), also Aqaba-Petra Jordan and Egypt's Port Ghalib Marina (in close proximity to Luxor ).
Jeddah cruise terminal
In late-July 2022, JCDC-Jeddah Central Development Company (wholly owned by Saudi Arabia's PIF-Public Investment Fund) signed an initial agreement with Cruise Saudi (also PIF-owned) to design the new Jeddah International Cruise Terminal & Marina.
When completed, the new luxury cruise terminal will establish Jeddah as one of the major cruiseship and superyacht destinations in the Red Sea region.

This cruise sets off from Jeddah and explores the best of the Red Sea
The MSC Bellissima cruise is making Jeddah its homeport through winter – here’s how you can set sail…
One of the largest and most iconic cruise ships in the world, the MSC Bellissima has made Jeddah its new homeport for the summer and has been cruising across the Red Sea as part of its exciting travel itinerary.
Following a hugely successful cruise season, the Geneva-based MSC Cruises has now confirmed that the MSC Bellissima cruise is going to extend its stay in Jeddah for the winter 2021-2022 season.
A first of its kind for the Red Sea
MSC Bellissima began sailing three and four-night cruises from Jeddah to Egypt and Jordan this summer, making it the first time a cruise of this calibre came to the Red Sea. The cruise ship can accommodate 2,500 guests across 19 floors and offers a range entertainment – from concerts and stand-up comedy shows to sports and activities, all now available for Saudi residents to enjoy.
The new cruise route
The cruise’s winter 2021/22 weeklong itinerary is slightly different from the summer session but still includes ports of call to Egypt, Jordan, and across Saudi Arabia.
Starting October 30, MSC Bellissima’s cruises set sail from Jeddah sailing to Ras Al Abyad – which is home to some of the pristine white-sand beaches of Saudi Arabia – as well as Al Wajh and Yanbu. Al Wajh is the gateway to Al Ula, the most popular tourism destination in Saudi Arabia currently, and Yanbu is Saudi Arabia’s diving capital because of its dreamy coral reef views.
The cruise will also include stops at Safaga and Aqaba.
How to book
There are currently three itineraries available to choose from but if the summer session is any indicator on how quickly spots are filled, you will want to make a booking as soon as possible.
The winter session will end in March 2022, and MSC Bellissima will reposition to Japan.
Prices start at approximately SAR 450 per nigh t for a four-nights cruise. More details about the different packages are available here .

I learned many time- and money-saving travel tips while sailing for 73 days on six different cruise lines this year.
I traveled across Asia, the Caribbean, Central America, and North America, and I'm excited about my planned trips in 2024.
Here are the mistakes I'll avoid making on cruises next year.
Forgetting to check the cruise price before making my final payment
You typically don't pay for a cruise in full up front, and the final payment is often due 60 days or more before sailing.
However, I learned to always check the current rates for the trip before making that final payment. If they've dropped, contact your cruise line to request a price adjustment or a refund for the difference.
If the price drops significantly after the final payment, you likely won't get any money back, but you can often negotiate a room upgrade or a future cruise credit.
In September, I saw that my November cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line was discounted by more than 40%. I reached out to the cruise line and got upgraded to a balcony stateroom for free.
Paying full price for a balcony or oceanview stateroom
Booking higher - category rooms on cruises doesn't pay off.
I had a balcony room on three cruises in 2023 and spent mere minutes enjoying them. Spending less than an hour on a balcony doesn't justify the extra cost for me.
Plus, there are many free or cheaper ways to get upgraded to a higher-category stateroom, like seeking a price adjustment (as mentioned above) or bidding for one.
Forgetting to pack cruise essentials
I've gotten pretty good at packing for cruises, and I've added a few more must-bring items to my list this year.
Cruise cabins can be compact (and often have magnetized walls), so I maximize the space by packing magnets with hooks. I use them to hang items like my lanyard with key card, necklaces, and tote bag.
For the pool deck, I bring giant clips to keep my towel from flying away.
I also pack specialty clothing for formal evenings and theme nights . Always check theme nights beforehand since you never know what you'll need. I've been to Disney Cruise Line's Pirate Night and Virgin Voyages' PJ Party, among others.
Letting the cruise line assign my cabin
Although you can save money by letting a cruise line choose your cabin placement, I'll keep paying extra to pick a quiet room.
I usually pick cabins on middle floors in the middle of the ship that have staterooms directly above and below them.
In these cabins, I hear less noise from the ship's propulsion and feel less movement when we hit rocky seas.
Paying extra to use WiFi
On some cruises, unlimited basic internet (video streaming not supported) for one device can start at $30 a day.
Some lines, like Holland America Line, offer WiFi as a free add-on during select promotions. Others give a few hour's worth of free WiFi to members of a certain status.
But I'm not going on a cruise to be on my phone.
If I don't book with lines like Virgin Voyages and Regent Seven Seas, which offer unlimited free internet, I look for free WiFi in port.
Not applying for loyalty-match programs
Several cruise lines offer loyalty-match programs that match your loyalty status from other lines — or even hotel chains — so you continue to get perks.
I've taken advantage of MSC's Status Match Program , which matches my status from dozens of cruise lines, airlines, and hotels, providing complimentary perks that vary by tier.
Once, I used my gold status on Disney Cruise Line to reach MSC's second-highest status. I got a one-hour thermal spa pass and a free cocktail.
The Royal Caribbean Group Loyalty Match is also popular and offers shared status between the Celebrity Captain's Club and the Royal Caribbean Crown & Anchor Society.
Buying a separate insurance plan for each cruise
I used to buy a separate insurance plan for each cruise, plane ticket, and hotel stay.
It got expensive, so I switched to an annual plan that covers various trip delays, interruptions, or cancellations. There's even coverage available if my travel companion or I get sick.
As a frequent traveler, this bundled plan has saved me money.
Forgetting to put money down on a future cruise while I'm on a current one
Many cruise lines allow you to book your next trip during a current one using future-cruise deposits.
I've learned to take advantage of the deposit specials on my favorite lines because you usually get the best savings and onboard credits to use on future trips.
I don't have to book a specific trip right away, either. I usually have at least a year to determine how to use my deposit.
The biggest risk is losing the deposit if I don't book a cruise before the credit expires.
Not speaking up when things aren't right
Excursions and spa services are often nonrefundable, but it pays to speak up if things aren't right.
The key is to go to guest services on board as soon as there's an issue. I've learned passengers have more leverage to work things out while they're still on the ship.
I visited guest services several times this year, including when I took a Holland America Line excursion to Cartagena that didn't fit the description. I received a 50% refund for the excursion.
I also visited guest services when I sailed with Norwegian Cruise Line and the air conditioning broke in my cabin. I was able to move to another cabin for one night, and I received onboard credit.
