Kaleo will no longer be opening for Greta Van Fleet ‘s upcoming summer tour.

The Icelandic rockers have announced that they’re taking a hiatus from the road, beginning after the conclusion of their current run through Europe.

“After performing nearly 100 times across the globe in 2022, our intention was to rest, recharge and focus on personal well-being, both mental and physical,” Kaleo writes in a Facebook post. “Unfortunately, due to prior commitments, we failed to follow our own plan and it has taken its toll.”

“We’re truly humbled that the members of GVF have been so overly supportive,” the post continues. “We wish them nothing but the best.”

Kaleo’s European tour wraps up July 22 at Lollapalooza Paris. Their first date on Greta Van Fleet’s tour was scheduled for July 24 in Nashville.

Silversun Pickups will take Kaleo’s place for select shows.

KALEO ‘Payback tour' 2024: New dates, presale, venues, & all you need to know

G rammy-nominated rock group KALEO has extended their summer outing with new dates for the ‘Payback Tour' 2024. The group announced the tour dates on Instagram on April 29, informing fans that the tour will be hitting cities across North America and Canada between August 25 and October 10.

This second headlining tour of 2024, the ‘Payback Tour,' spans four weeks and will visit 29 cities. Tickets for the much-awaited tour will go on artist presale starting this Tuesday, April 30. The presale that begins at 10:00 am local time can be accessed by registering on the rock group's website, officialkaleo.com.

Additionally, those with Citi cards can access an exclusive presale through citientertainment.com starting April 30. A Live Nation presale will begin on May 1, available at LiveNation.com. Tour partners such as Bandsintown and Spotify will begin their member-exclusive presales on May 2.

The general sale of the tickets will be open to the public starting May 3. Fans will also be able to access limited-time open on-sale of platinum tickets and VIP packages starting at 10:00 am on May 3. These open on-sale tickets can be booked from the group's official website or via Ticketmaster.

Everything to know about KALEO ‘Payback Tour' 2024

KALEO is set to rock 2024 with the kickoff of their ‘Payback Tour' on August 25. The headlining tour will commence at the Hayden Homes Amphitheater in Bend, Oregon

Before heading to Canada, the group will perform three successive shows at Idaho Botanical Garden's Outlaw Field, Northern Quest Resort & Casino in Airway Heights, and Bonner's KettleHouse Amphitheater. The Canadian leg of KALEO's tour begins on August 31, with performances at venues including the Edmonton Expo Centre, Denim on the Diamond in Kelowna, Grey Eagle Resort & Casino in Calgary, and Winnipeg's Centennial Concert Hall.

Upon their return, the group will grace stages in cities including Prior Lake, Detroit, Boston, New York, Raleigh, Charlotte, Atlanta, Louisville , and Asheville, among others. Fans can anticipate performances at Birmingham's Avondale Brewery, Austin's Moody Amphitheater, Houston's Bayou Music Center, The Chicago Theatre, and the Roxian Theatre in McKees Rocks.

The Grammy-nominated rock group will officially conclude the ‘Payback Tour' 2024 on October 10 at the House of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio.

Throughout the tour, KALEO will be joined by multiple guests and supporting artists at different dates and venues. Chance Peña will accompany the rock group on most dates, with Larkin Poe also slated to open for select shows. Additionally, Hembree will support the group for their last two shows of the headlining tour.

Kaleo Announces Additional Dates for 'Fight or Flight' Tour

KALEO recently unveiled their highly anticipated album Surface Sounds, available everywhere via Elektra/Atlantic.

GRAMMY-nominated rock band KALEO has announced additional dates for their " Fight or Flight Tour " taking place in 2022 (full itinerary below). Initially set for the summer of 2020, but rescheduled due to the global pandemic, the worldwide tour's North American leg - which kicks off at Seattle's Showbox SoDo on February 22, 2022 - are on sale now. Nearly all of KALEO's Fight or Flight shows will take place in the originally scheduled venues, with previously purchased tickets being honored in most cases.

Recorded on and off the road, all around the world, the album is very much the brainchild of KALEO frontman, singer, and songwriter JJ Julius Son. Co-producing the majority of it alongside GRAMMY winner Dave Cobb, Julius Son was able to execute his singular vision, leaning into his affinity for blues, folk, and rock. The album's current single "Break My Baby" - produced by GRAMMY winner Mike Elizondo; written solely and co-produced by Julius Son - made an immediate impact at Triple A radio as the #1 most added song after its first week and continues to climb the format's chart.

The band recently shared an incredible, live performance video of the album track "Skinny," shot in front of Falgradalsfjall during a magnificent volcanic eruption. The incredible footage - which features Julius Son with a backdrop of molten lava - was captured at the end March within days of the start of the volcanic eruption, which had made headlines around the world after remaining dormant for nearly 800 years. The video follows several like-minded visuals that showcase the breathtaking landscape of the band's native Iceland. Earlier this year, KALEO unveiled a live performance version of "Break My Baby" that was recorded and filmed at the iconic ÞRÍDRANGAR lighthouse, located atop a remote rock formation in the North Atlantic Ocean, several miles off the country's southern coast (watch HERE ). The clip joins two previously released, live performance videos, currently streaming on the band's YouTube channel: " Save Yourself (LIVE at Fjallsárlón) " which was shot atop a glacier and " Way Down We Go (LIVE in a Volcano) ," featuring the band's 2x-Platinum smash. Last year, KALEO performed a special, acoustic version of "Break My Baby" for NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers," captured in the middle of picturesque Lake Ellidavatn near Julius Son's home.

KALEO Announces Additional Dates for Summer Payback Tour

KALEO is adding additional dates to the group’s summer itinerary, announcing new dates for the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated Icelandic rockers’ North American Payback Tour.

KALEO will begin headlining amphitheaters across the continent through the fall, kicking off at Hayden Homes Amphitheatre in Bend, Ore., on Aug. 25. The upcoming run will feature support from Chance Peña, Hembree and Larkin Poe on select dates.

Ticket presales for the newly announced dates begin Tuesday (April 30) at 10 a.m. local time, with general on-sale starting Friday (May 3) at 10 a.m. local time at officialkaleo.com .

Last week, KALEO was announced as direct support for The Rolling Stones show at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 11, as part of their 2024 Hackney Diamonds Tour. Then, KALEO will embark on a previously announced run of summer headlining dates starting at Dillon Amphitheatre in Dillon, Colo., on June 14, followed by a sold-out performance at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo. Support for the early summer trek — which is set to visit major markets on the West Coast, wrapping up in Carnation, Wash., at Remlinger Farms on June 26 — includes Matt Maeson, Vincent Lima, Neal Francis and Reignwolf on select dates.

Last month, KALEO returned with the new single “Lonely Cowboy,” which is available on all streaming platforms and is joined by a stunning performance video shot inside Rome’s historic Colosseum. The stand-alone track notably marks the group’s first new original music in three years.

“Lonely Cowboy” hinges on a softly plucked acoustic guitar and sparse orchestration, while gruff, yet warm vocals remain the guiding force. “Guess it’s time to say goodbye to the rider of the night,” sings vocalist, guitarist, pianist, songwriter and producer JJ Julius Son as he paints a vivid picture underscored by a proud and intentional homage to Italian film composer Ennio Morricone.

JJ commented on the song, sharing, “It feels like a Spaghetti Western, and I love those vibes. My friends and family have always encouraged me to put it out, but now was the right time. It’s an important one for me.”

The Colosseum show took place in front of 250 of the group’s biggest fans at the Archeological Park of the Colosseum in Rome, joining the ranks of Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, The Cure, Elton John and Paul McCartney as the only artists to ever perform an electric concert in front of the iconic monument. Presented by VERTIGO LIVE, a leading producer of cinematic live experiences, the momentous night was captured on film and will be released as KALEO: Viva Roma in the Shadow of the Colosseum later this summer. Earlier this week, the Icelandic-natives made their Grand Ole Opry debut, delivering the world premiere of “ Lonely Cowboy ” from the historic circle, after a sold-out show at the highly revered Ryman Auditorium, performing tracks from their latest release Surface Sounds , including Triple A Top 6 hit “ Break My Baby ,” the atmospheric “ Backbone ,” and the groovy “ Hey Gringo ,” as well as hits from 2016’s breakthrough major label debut A/B : the two-time RIAA Platinum-certified chart-topper “ Way Down We Go ,” fan-favorites “ Automobile ” and “ Hot Blood ,” before closing out their set with the GRAMMY-nominated rocker “ No Good .”

Last month, KALEO  debuted a live performance video of “ Backbone ” from an ice cave located on Breiðarmerkurjökull, part of the larger glacier Vatnajökull. Watch the video  HERE  and listen to the live recording  HERE .

Filmed in January 2021, the performance video opens with a stirring view of the Vatnajökull ice cap juxtaposed with some of Iceland’s native wildlife running across the plateau. The viewer follows KALEO as they trudge over long stretches of desolate, mesmerizing glacier. The instrumental builds as the band arrives at the Breiðarmerkurjökull ice cave before front man and songwriter  JJ Julius Son  plays the opening chords.

Drenched in pedal steel, the stripped-down version of “Backbone” showcases the brooding balladry of the song and Julius Son’s knack for storytelling allusions. As the camera pans out and the scene fades away, a message appears:

“The ice cave where this live performance was filmed has melted and disappeared. By the year 2100, the entire glacier will be gone.”

“Backbone (Live at Breiðarmerkurjökull)” follows “ Skinny (Live from Fagradalsfjall Volcanic Eruption) ,” another in a series of live performances from some of Iceland’s spectacular landscapes, including “ Break My Baby (Live from ÞRÍDRANGAR) ,” recorded and filmed at the iconic ÞRÍDRANGAR lighthouse, located atop a remote rock formation in the North Atlantic Ocean.

KALEO kicked off their Fight Or Flight Tour earlier this year, with the North American leg boasting 50+ dates, selling out a series of venues across the U.S. before heading to Europe this summer.

This show was completely fabulous. We arrived a bit late, but caught most of the opener's set. Jonah & the Lion exceded all expectations for an opening band. They mixed genres and segued seamlessly between them (folk, bluegrass, funk, dance pop, alt rock), displayed over the top music talent, and didn't take themselves too seriously while delivering top-notch musical entertainment. Their cover of The Killer's Mr. Brightside was a crowd pleasing spectacle. I can't wait to see more of them and get my hands on some of their music for my collection.

Kaleo, themselves, where equally wonderful. Their skill is tight, dynamic, and intense. Everything I love in music. JJ's command of his voice and whistling is mind blowing and beautiful. I would have loved a longer show and maybe a fun cover (I adore covers, it's so fun to see a favorite performer re-imagine an old favorite or current pop tune). Hopefully someday soon they'll have a larger catalog of songs to fill out a longer set. However, considering it was a weekday and I'm not as young as used to be, having a show end at 10 pm was kind of nice.

I highly recommend both acts and look forward to catching them both again soon.

Hamburg 2017, the Stadtpark open-air space was sold out. And, what else could be expected, of course it was raining,at the beginning even pouring - but what the heck: Hey, there was KALEO on stage performing right in front of us. At first they needed some time to get the crowd going, no wonder since the average are was probably 45-50, the oldies needed a few songs to let go. But in the end everybody was jumping up and down, clapping and singing along. Old and young completely into the fantastic music of these guys we came there for defying even the time

Kaleo has the best music and totally loved seeing him in person!From the first time I heard Kaleo sing Way down we go on Prime time during the TV show hit Blindspot! Fell in love with Kaleo's style. Also pleasantly surprised that Kaleo also did All the pretty Girls! I also love this song and heard it alot over the summer!Would love to see Kaleo perform again and again! I will definitely watch Kaleo's musical career evolve. I am sharing his music with my family and friends! Oh but did I mentioned that I love every song! 5 star+ in my book!

A talented group of musicians who sounded just as good live as their recorded versions. Set was lively and a great mixture of soulful blues coupled with faster paced grittier rock tunes. I took my 13-year old for her first live concert, and I cannot tell you how happy I was that this was her first show. Great, smaller sized venue and opening band, Wilder, really helped to get the crowd into the music.

First time I’d been to the roundhouse and I was very impressed. Good layout downstairs decent choice of drinks clean toilets. Upstairs the stage could of been higher- or the floor more steeped- as viewing from the back wasn’t easy. However the sound system was excellent which is more than could be said of the band. Last time I saw them I was blown away this time thought they were mediocre

Single handedly the greatest guitar and singing I have ever experienced in a concert. This review compares to shows such as the Neighbourhood, Bad Suns, Nate Ruess, Linkin Park, Etc. Kaleo is a band I recommend to all of my friends for any type of mood they are in. The band Kaleo is my favorite band and will remain right there.

Great show, however It was way too short. And they could include in their set list some of their first singles such as Pretty Boy Floyd. Me and my friends were happy to be there but expected the concert to be longer than 2 hours, especially when it was mentioned on different sites that the concert is going to last over 3 hours

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC, can't praise them enough, they were on stage for about 1hour and 10 mins, played most of the songs off their A+B album.I would go see them again without a doubt. The support act was was really good as well, they were called Stealth, they are on Spotify, if you like Kaleo you'll like Stealth.

I am a 10yr old girl from Austin, and I love Kaleo's music! I saw Kaleo live at Emo's last night and it was AWESOME! The band is even better live! The lead singer (JJ) has an extremely amazing voice that has SO many ranges!! I absolutely recommend that you should see Kaleo live, it was so fun!!!!

Wonderful performance, the energy was just as amazing as the music!! I would love to see them back in the area. My only wish was that they would interact and talk to the crowd more. Also I would have lovedddd to do a meet and greet or autograph with them, that would have been a dream come true!

After amassing over 4+ Billion global streams, 60+ international certifications, countless sold-out headlining shows, appearances at such noteworthy festivals as Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo plus a direct support slot opening for Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, the Rolling Stones, GRAMMY nominated, Icelandic rockers, KALEO, has proven to be a worldwide phenomenon.

Known for their electrifying live performances alongside frontman JJ Julius Son’s towering, blues-soaked vocals, KALEO toured nonstop for 3 years in support of their debut album, A/B , which has since gone platinum and spawned the megahit “Way Down We Go.” On the heels of sophomore release, Surface Sounds , the band embarked on their Fight or Flight World Tour coming out of Covid. 2022 saw them perform 97 times in 92 different cities across 22 countries, selling over one quarter of a million tickets globally. Having spent the better part of 18 months stuck in isolation within their home country, it was both refreshing and gratifying to be able to play live music for live people, once again.

In 2023 the boys toured Australia and New Zealand, performed at a handful of notable European festivals, and began recording their highly anticipated third album which will be released this summer.
