Customer Experiences Of Ireland Tours

Don’t just imagine your visit to Ireland - read what our amazing guests have to say!

So happy I found Nordic Visitor!

I'm so happy I found Nordic Visitor! Our 10-day self-drive tour of Ireland made our trip feel like a carefree vacation. The accommodation were outstanding, and finding ourselves within walking distance of city centres was wonderful. Our hotels/inns offered lovely breakfasts and some had excellent evening dining on-site. The Nordic Visitor travel guide was a pleasure to follow, filled with many choices to plan our daily excursions. Nordic Visitor is highly professional and thorough, from website to bookings. We appreciate all the planning Chris put into creating a fantastic itinerary for us!

This was excellent. We truly enjoyed our experience. We accomplished about 90% of the suggested sites. They were all top notch. Hotels and accommodation were all great. I would recommend to anyone going to visit Ireland and I will use them again when we go to Scotland.

I would recommend Nordic Visitor

Easy-to-book tour, communications were thorough and detailed, tour guide books were very well-researched and even included a hand-annotated map. Would recommend Nordic Visitor to others wishing to make a short tour to Ireland.

Extremely helpful

Nordic Visitor offers a package for every type of traveller. Travel consultants are extremely helpful and steer travellers to the perfect package to meet their interests.

Truly enjoyed our trip

Truly enjoyed our trip to Scotland and Ireland and the ease in travel. The itinerary booklets and maps were essential and used daily during our trip. We loved our trip and have shared your website with several friends already. We have 2 sets of friends looking at doing the same trip next year and one considering your Iceland package. Look forward to booking with you again!

We will use Nordic Visitor again

This was our third Nordic Visitor trip. We truly like the format of being able to travel on our own but with hotels and our car pre-booked and suggested itineraries. We will use Nordic Visitor again.

The best trip I've ever been on

This was a great tour, well laid out and hitting the highlights. Touring with a small group is always much smoother and more amicable and our group became fast friends. I can't say enough about our tour guide Brian. He brought a wealth of knowledge, not only about our destinations, but also local history, geography, language, customs as well as funny anecdotes. My daughter-in-law said "This was the best trip I've ever been on".

So grateful we went with Nordic Visitor

We had such an amazing experience with Nordic Visitor who hosted the "Wonders of Ireland" 8-day tour. The group was small, 16 people, so we could use a large van rather than the huge buses that take forever for people to load/unload at each stop. The hotels were top notch, the sites we visited were diverse and enjoyable (distilleries, castles, gardens, waterfalls). Our tour guide Brian was truly incredible. He had a wealth of knowledge about the history, music and folklore of Ireland. He made the trip both informative and fun, and helped the group come together with his warm and engaging personality. Melissa our driver was also fantastic - kind, helpful and chatty. They both went above and beyond to ensure everyone was cared for and enjoyed the journey. I was torn about which company to use, and am so grateful we went with Nordic Visitor.

Well-organised tour

The tour was very well-organised and structured to maximise the time on the road and the sites worth seeing along the way. The self-driving allowed me to spend time as I saw fit. Ireland is truly a beautiful country with friendly people.

I will use Nordic Visitor again!

We toured the highlights of Ireland via private vehicle and guide. All of our accommodation were very nice and what we requested. Our guide/driver was excellent! He went the extra mile for us in every way. The Nordic Visitor representative listened to what we wanted for our trip and delivered a great package. I was sent in depth details of the sites we could see at each stop and suggestions as to their top three choices. All the information provided was very helpful. I will use this company again!

Nordic Visitor's website and logistics were first-rate. Overall we had a wonderful time getting to see Scotland and Ireland, connecting with ancestry and generally enjoying all the arrangements made for us.

Great tour itinerary and accommodation. Nordic Visitor did all the hard work of booking places to stay and allowed us to just enjoy our trip.

Getting to Ireland

Ireland has 10 airports, with the three main international ports being: Dublin, Cork and Shannon. Unless customised to begin elsewhere, all Nordic Visitor tours in Ireland start and end in Dublin, the capital city.

Flight times to Ireland are, for example, 6 hours from New York City or Boston and 1.5 hours from London. Major international airlines with flights to Ireland include (but are not limited to) Aer Lingus, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, United Airlines, Ryanair, and KLM.

The Republic of Ireland is on GMT time. If your journey involves one or more connecting flights, or if you're crossing several time zones to get here, your dedicated Nordic Visitor travel consultant can add extra nights in Dublin to your package so you can rest up after arrival.

Please note that your flights to Ireland are not included in Nordic Visitor packages. However, if you have booked a combination tour of Scotland and Ireland, we include flight costs between the two countries in the package price.

IRELAND PACKAGES BY LOCAL TRAVEL SPECIALISTS

What would you like to experience in Ireland? Our Ireland travel experts have created thrilling tour packages for your dream Irish road trip.

Castle Tours

Countryside & nature, culture & history, irish heritage, best sellers, scotland and ireland, what to see on a 6-day tour of ireland.

There is so much you can see and do on a 6-day Ireland road trip. In less than a week, you could immerse yourself in the landscapes and historical landmarks of this Celtic country. Explore lively Irish cities and charming countryside as you take in the culture, history and beauty of the Emerald Isle.

With 6 days it is possible to go from Dublin and drive along the west coast. As well as spending time in the capital, you could visit the towns of Galway and Killarney as part of your tour.

Of course, the journey is just as important as the destination when you’re on a road trip. In Ireland you can expect scenic drives and plenty of attractions to stop at along the way.

Imagine yourself wandering through ancient Celtic monuments, going for a walk on the green hills, and learning about Gaelic culture. You could sit in a typical pub tasting the local brew and listening to live Irish music.

Read our recommended itinerary below for more inspiration and ideas.

  • Browse our Ireland self-drive itineraries when you’re ready to plan your ideal tour to the Emerald Isle

Here’s our suggestion for a 6-day Ireland road trip:

Day 1 - Arrival in Ireland After touching down at Dublin Airport, a private driver will take you to your hotel in the capital, largest city and international hub of Ireland. If you arrive earlier in the day, you can spend the afternoon at your leisure, exploring the city and its many attractions.

Dublin is a heady combination of heritage sites, fun museums, green parks, historic pubs and lively entertainment. To immerse yourself fully into this buzzing city, we recommend taking a stroll along the cobbled streets of the Temple Bar district or along the characterful O’Connell Street.

Fans of history, books and collegiate atmosphere will want to visit the historic Trinity College and see the ancient Book of Kells.

There are plenty of fun activities you could also add to your itinerary should you have the time. Enjoy an afternoon tea in a double decker vintage bus as you sightsee around the city. Or you could grab a pint at the Guinness Storehouse for a taste of their world-famous beer.

Spend the night in the Dublin area.

Day 2 - Drive to the west coast This morning you start your road trip around Ireland. You’ll cross the country to make your way toward the west coast. Through the midlands there are a few worthwhile stops where you may want to spend some time.

You can immerse yourself in local history at Trim Castle, the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland. You could make a pit stop at Kilbeggan Distillery to see how the local whiskey is made. You’ll also come across the atmospheric ruins of Clonmacnoise where you could go for a stroll.

Then, arrive in Galway city and find out why it is famous for being a cultural hub in Europe. Taste delicious seafood from the Atlantic Ocean and perhaps check out the lively pub scene in this “city of the tribes”.

Spend the night in the Galway area.

Day 3 - The Cliffs of Moher Today you’ll see some of Ireland’s most famous landscapes. But first, start the day at Dunguaire Castle. It is one of the most photographed castles in Ireland  thanks to its location along the Galway Bay. You’ll then drive through the spectacular and lunar-like Burren.

In the afternoon, take in the majestic beauty of the Cliffs of Moher, Ireland’s top tourist attraction. You can’t help but marvel at these dramatic coastal cliffs, towering 214 metres (702 feet) above the sea.

You could also visit Bunratty Castle, thought to have originated as a Viking trading post in 970 A.D. Then, if time allows, take a look around Bunratty Folk Park, adjacent to the castle. Here you can see what life was like in rural Ireland 100 years ago, with its reconstruction of a typical Irish village.

Spend the night in the Killarney area.

  • Not sure when to book your 6-day Ireland itinerary? Browse our guide to the best time to visit Ireland

Day 4 - Around the Ring of Kerry You have all day to explore the scenic Ring of Kerry, a magical drive through the Irish countryside and along the coast of the Iveragh peninsula. It is part of the larger Wild Atlantic Way and is a must-do for most visitors.

We recommend going counter-clockwise and stopping at the Kells Bay House and its gardens as your first visit of the day. You could then stop by the ancient stone forts of Caherdaniel and Staigue as well as stroll along Derrynane Bay.

Along the way you could also take an optional boat tour from the coast to see the Skellig Islands from up close. These otherworldly islands were recently featured in the Star Wars movies.

If time allows, you could finish the day by visiting some highlights of Killarney National Park. This includes the picturesque Torc Waterfall and the lakeside Ross Castle and Muckross House.

Spend another night in the Killarney area.

Day 5 - Discover more of Ireland’s rich history Today’s journey will take you back to Dublin. You could go the direct way, but to take advantage of your last full day in Ireland, we recommend stopping along the way at attractions and beautiful sights.

One of them is the famous Blarney Castle. It is legendary in fact as the castle and its history is surrounded in myths and tales. Don’t miss out on kissing the Blarney Stone, which supposedly gives you the gift of eloquence.

Later, explore the spectacular Rock of Cashel, which is home to an important collection of medieval buildings that span over 1,000 years of history.

Spend your last night in Dublin, where you can top up your Irish adventure with one last delicious dinner.

Day 6 - Departure Today you fly home from your Irish holiday. If you have time, you could spend the earlier part of the day visiting another of Dublin’s museums. Or take a final stroll along the River Liffey or in one of the beautiful parks of the city.

Want to go on an Ireland road trip?

With 6 days driving around Ireland, you’ll have the freedom to pull the car over at any attractions or breathtaking views.

The best part? You won’t have to worry about where you’re going or sleeping, because your Nordic Visitor travel consultant will plan your trip and sort all the details before you arrive.

We reserve your accommodation, rent a car for your trip, and can book activities to fill your days with more adventures. You’ll also have access to our 24/7 emergency helpline should you need to call us at any point.

Good to know: Our tours aren't set in stone. We can modify the itinerary! Would you prefer to spend more time in one city than another? Add another town to your trip? Or even stay in a special accommodation like a castle hotel? Just ask your Nordic Visitor travel consultant for advice.

  • For more self-drive inspiration, read our recommendation of the  best Ireland road trips

Want to stay longer?

If you want to slow down the pace and take in more Irish attractions, we highly recommend extending your self-drive tour to 10 days or more.

All of Nordic Visitor’s Ireland self-drive tour packages can be tailored by our regional experts. They can add extra nights at select locations or modify the driving routes if you have any particular attractions in mind. Just ask!

For example, if you add one more day to your itinerary, you could also discover the rugged mountains of Connemara or the Aran Islands. And with 10 days or more, you could visit the island in greater depth. Follow the Wild Atlantic Way route or pop into Northern Ireland, home to the famous Giant’s Causeway.

The possibilities are endless. You could dive deeper into the Ring of Kerry, explore the Dingle Peninsula, or visit Achill Island for some coastal scenery.

You could drive up to the northernmost county, Donegal, or discover the east coast in more detail. At the other end of the spectrum, you could spend more time in the south, visiting the city of Cork or the town of Kilkenny.

When is the best time to visit Ireland?

Ireland is a beautiful country all year long. This means you can’t go wrong when you book your 6-day Irish getaway. That said, we recommend the summertime or its shoulder months for the best experience.

The summer, consisting of the months of June, July and August, is the high season. It is marked by long daylight hours and the best (and most stable) weather of the year. Attractions also operate under longer hours and more availability than in winter.

All of this means you can discover Ireland to your heart’s content.

However, you may find that top attractions are very popular at this time. Indeed, Ireland attracts visitors from around the world especially in summer.

If you would rather have a quieter holiday, visit during the spring or autumn. These shoulder months include April, May, September and October. During this time, you’ll find the best of both worlds: quieter attractions but plenty of good weather and daylight to explore.

Are you interested in exploring Scotland too?

You could combine a tour of Ireland with a road trip around Scotland for an epic Celtic itinerary. We recommend a minimum of 10 days for this, however, so you can have enough time to dive into the cultures of both countries.

Spend the first 4 to 10 days driving around the rugged Highlands and islands of Scotland. Then follow that up with another road trip around Ireland to take in all the jaw-dropping coastal landscapes and historic landmarks.

Scotland is a great destination to complement a tour to Ireland. Their cultures and history are so closely linked and you’ll be able to meet the locals and get immersed in both.

6 day road trip in ireland with itinerary.

September 9, 2021 by Joslyn 42 Comments

6 Day Road Trip in Ireland with Itinerary #ireland #irelanditinerary

Traveling abroad can be challenging if you don’t know where or what to do. Here is a 6 day road trip in Ireland with itinerary that is sure to help you make the most of your vacation. Visiting places like Dublin, Cork, Dingle, Cliffs of Moher, and Belfast. Budget road trip from $60 per day not counting RV / camper rental. ( €50 )

While Chantell outlines her Ireland travel fun, keep in mind there are many ways to experience Ireland. Maybe learning more about glamping with by reading an Ireland glamping guide . Have fun if you decide to check out all Ireland has to offer.

Guest post written by Chantell where she shares her travel fun.

6 Day Road Trip in Ireland with her Itinerary

When I thought about traveling to Ireland, I knew there was only one way I wanted to do it – an epic road trip!

There are so many sites to visit and although it is possible to take tours from Dublin, I wanted to get off the “tourist trail”. Having a car gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. And better yet – a camper provides the ultimate independence with a bed, kitchenette, table, and chairs.

For my 6 days in Ireland, I had the company of my friend Tamara and our “Aces” 2-Seater Camper from Wicked Campers Europe. I was excited to try traveling in a camper, and what better way than in a black and red Motorhead van called Lemmy. He definitely turned a few heads!

Here are my 6 days in Ireland itinerary, including distances between stops and budget breakdown.

6 days in Ireland itinerary by car

Create your own travel map

Day 1 – Dublin to Cork

Before setting off on your Irish road trip, I definitely recommend a couple of days in Dublin. This is an international city with many ex-pats and visitors, however, it still maintains it’s Irish culture.

To see the main attractions, try a free walking tour. Other popular activities include the Guinness Storehouse , Jameson Distillery , and Leprechaun museum (apparently very kitsch but a lot of fun!).

Have an obligatory Irish coffee in the Temple Bar area but for a real Irish pub experience, our walking tour guide recommended O’Donoghue’s on Baggot St. It is a lot bigger than it initially looks and has live Irish music.

Glendalough (67.7 km / 42 miles from Dublin)

Going south from Dublin, skip the longer coastal road and head inland through Wicklow County. This will be the beginning of stunning scenery during your road trip.

Our first stop is at the Glendalough Monastic Site to explore the church ruins and hauntingly beautiful cemetery.

Cork (258 km / 160 miles from Dublin)

Cork is the third-largest city in Ireland and, in my opinion, the most charming (I might be a little biased as my father’s family came from Cork). This is a great place to stop for the night and stock up on groceries for the trip.

When the sun starts to set, try dinner at Gallagher’s Gastro Pub, then head to Crane Lane for a drink and a dance.

Day 2 – Cork to Kenmare

It is easy to spend half a day here and the city is very walkable. Take a stroll down Oliver Plunkett Street, stop for a coffee in the English Market, continue on for views from University College Cork (UCC), and end up in Fitzgerald’s Park for a picnic by the fountain. If you are in Cork and don’t have a car, you can take a Blarney and Cobh 5-Hour Tour from Cork .

Blarney Castle (9.3 km / 5.7 miles from Dublin)

In the afternoon, it’s back in the van but the next stop isn’t far. Just 20 minutes outside of Cork is the infamous Blarney Castle. If you haven’t heard the tale, those who kiss the Blarney Stone receive the “gift of the gab”. This basically means that you are instantly transformed into a smooth talker. I kissed it and I am still waiting.

One thing I didn’t realize is that they hang you upside down to kiss the stone. Don’t worry, it is totally safe with a full-time employee there to hold onto you. Also, there are bars below so it’s not possible to fall.

The grounds also have a manor, waterfall, and Ireland’s only poison garden.

Kenmare (87.7 km / 54 miles from Blarney Castle)

Kenmare is located southwest, right near the Ring of Kerry. We stopped overnight to visit a friend that we made in Dublin. I love how “small town” it is. There are only a few main streets and two general stores – right across from each other! But don’t worry, there are plenty of pubs.

Day 3 – Kenmare to Dingle

Killarney national park (12.7 km / 7.8 miles from kenmare).

After grabbing your Barry’s Tea to-go, get ready for the Ring of Kerry! The entire route can take a full day on its own – so if you have time, go for it. We just had a few hours but still enjoyed every minute of it. If you don’t have a car or would prefer to go with a guide, check out  Ring of Kerry Full-Day Guided Tour from Cork.

From Kenmare, you can drive along a portion of the Ring of Kerry to Killarney National Park. There is no cost to enter unless you want to take a horse and cart ride from the characters out front. Otherwise, you can visit the Abby ruins, cemetery, and see the lake in less than half an hour on foot.

Inch Beach (39 km / 24 miles from Killarney National Park)

It’s time to see some of that rugged Irish west coast, starting with Inch Beach. This is a nice place to grab a tea or coffee (I basically spent my entire road trip with Barry’s Tea in my hand) and have a picnic from the back of your camper.

Dingle (23 km / 14 miles from Blarney Castle)

Dingle was a highlight of our road trip for so many reasons. It’s a bit out of the way on the peninsula, but worth the extra time driving. For the perfect night out, have a pint in Dick Macks Pub, head to the Marina Inn Hotel for cheap Irish stew, and Tom Crean beer, then end the night at An Droichead Beag (The Small Bridge in Irish) for the best Irish music in Dingle.

Day 4 – Dingle to Cliffs of Moher

Limerick (148 km / 91 miles from dingle).

When you are driving from Dingle to Cliffs of Moher, there are many different towns to stop at along the way. However, there is nowhere else like Limerick. After being surrounded by green fields and quaint towns, Limerick is a shock to the senses with its industrial feel and vibrant residents. Visiting in Limerick will definitely provide a contrast to the other destinations on your road trip.

We parked close to the Milk Market and had delicious tea and scones at a place called Ma’s. Be aware that parking here isn’t free and you will need to buy a parking ticket from one of the nearby stores (they have them at Ma’s). It’s an interesting system where you scratch off the date and time on the ticket and then place in your car window.

Cliffs of Moher (78 km / 48 miles from Limerick)

I would recommend arriving at the Cliffs of Moher before sunset. These 320 million-year-old cliffs are notorious for being too foggy to get a good photo. When we visited in the evening, it was windy and chilly but we could see the cliffs and water. The next morning, we returned but you couldn’t see a meter in front of you. That’s why it’s good to go the day before, sleep nearby, and plan to return the next day. You will increase your chances of seeing these beauties.

Day 5 – Cliffs of Moher to Belfast

Mullingar (195 km / 121 miles from cliffs of moher).

After a huge Irish breakfast at Cliffs of Moher Hotel, it’s a big drive to get to Belfast.

For a lunchtime stop, check out Mullingar. A great place to buy more groceries if you need them, or to chill out in one of the many cafes or restaurants. See if you can spot the Banksy Tribute and County Infirmary building on your way out of town.

Belfast (181  km / 112 miles from Cliffs of Moher)

Crossing the border from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland is almost unnoticeable, apart from the small welcome sign and change of line color on the roads. What you will quickly notice is that the speed signs are now in miles (not kilometers) and the currency is pounds (not euros).

Day 6 – Belfast to Dublin

Outside of Belfast, you can find parks to stop and have a picnic lunch. We spent time in Belvoir Park Forest to relax before driving into the city.

There are a few different free walking tours in Belfast, however, for something more substantial, I would recommend a political tour. On a one hour Black Cab Tour, our guide gave us the condensed history on how Ireland split into Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as well as the divide between the Protestants and Catholic communities.

Apart from some basic understanding of the Irish Republican Army (IRA), I was amazed to realize how much I didn’t know about the conflict (referred to “The Troubles”) which is still apparent today. It is very eye-opening to see a giant “Peace Wall” separating two parts of the city and street art propaganda on opposing sides.

Bellinghamcastle (98 km / 61 miles from Belfast)

If you haven’t had enough small Irish towns or castles, stop in at Bellingcastle on your way back to Dublin. The town seems to have been built around the castle, aptly named Castle Bellingham.

Dublin (71 km / 44 miles from Bellinghamcastle)

And it’s back to Dublin, where we dropped Lemmy off at the Wicked Campers depot and took cheesy tourist photos that we will cherish as much as the memories of this incredible trip!

More from Wicked Campers

My friend and I got to cruise around Ireland in a Wicked 2-Seater Camper. This camper comes with everything you need to have a fun and affordable road trip, including a large comfy bed, kitchenette, camp table, and stools. The van includes plenty of storage for your bags, while also converting into a table and chairs. Glamping is becoming a great option for many travelers.

The back compartment of our van included a cooler (esky), gas cooker, saucepan, pot, bowls, plates, cups, cutlery, outdoor table, and chairs. We were able to save money on food by buying groceries and storing them at the back. Many times during our trip, we would pull over for lunch and make sandwiches from out the back of Lemmy.

6th Day – Cup of tea and cookie from Costa Coffee (£3), sandwich and yogurt from a service/gas station (€6).

Activities: Entrance to Blarney Castle (€15), Black Cabs Political Tour (£10).

Transport : Fuel for 6 days split between two (€85.69).

Average daily spend:  €50.38 each ($54.32 USD and $70.37 AUD as of 22 March 2017) excluding the 2-Seater Camper. This daily amount could be reduced by eating out and drinking less.

Final Thoughts on Traveling Ireland

There are many ways one can travel thru Ireland. While road tripping is great, backpacking Ireland is also a great option. If you have traveled Ireland I’d love to hear what you did and how. Drop a comment below and let us know.

I love the itinerary of this road trip of yours – it includes a perfect mix of everything – beach, castle, park, cliffs and of course, the road trip itself which looks epic! Well, kiss a stone standing upside down – I don’t think I would have done it though 🙂

Thanks Reshma! I promise that kissing the Blarney Stone wasn’t scary. I was just surprised ha ha. It’s very safe 🙂

This sounds like an amazing road trip! I was very intrigued by the Wicked Camper Vans. I have never heard of this company, but now I want to rent one of these for my next road trip. That little sink and gas burner in the back is soooo convenient!

Thanks Candy! I think these campers would be great to take around the USA too! Also they have a location in Japan 😉

OMG I want a camper called Lemmy!! That looks so cool, I’m not surprised he turned a few heads! What a great way to travel, I still haven’t been to Ireland yet (despite being English), and now I know this is the way to do it!

April 10, 2017 at 9:43 am

Thanks Claire! Lemmy was such a big part of our experience. I had to laugh at a few of the comments and expressions that we got when driving through smaller towns in Ireland ha ha. Hope you make it across the water one day!

You’ve visited a lot and I feel like I’m traveling with you while reading your post. Very well written! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful road trip with us.

One of my ultimate travel goals is to do a nice, long road trip around Ireland and Northern Ireland! I don’t think I’d ever tire of small Irish towns or castles ;). I’ll definitely have to keep Wicked Campers in mind too! They sound lovely, and I love the funky outside!

April 10, 2017 at 9:45 am

Thanks Samantha! This was my dream too and I was so happy to do it in a Wicked Camper. Hope you get to do your own Irish road trip!

Road trips are so much fun and on top of it if you are driving through the scenic countryside of Ireland, it is sure to be a heavenly experience. For some reason I have always been enamoured by Cork, it looks so charming and at the same time has a mysterious aura around it. Never been to Ireland but have been smitten by its natural beauty. Enjoyed reading about your lovely trip and we hope to make it too, some day.

Thanks Sandy and Vyjay. I was totally in love with Cork. My Dad’s family comes from there originally so it was very exciting for me to be there and it was better than I imagined 🙂

April 7, 2017 at 4:04 pm

These days I am seeing a lot of Ireland pictures. And why not ? It’s such a beautiful country. I liked your itinerary and what I liked more was your way of travel! Campervan !! There’s nothing like having your own vehicle with all the comforts, do picnic wherever you want and drive whenever you want. Road trips are so much fun ! Now I want that Lemmy ! What a cute name. 🙂

April 10, 2017 at 9:48 am

Ha ha yes! Lemmy was our partner in crime and got us everywhere without any problems! We had some great times driving the countryside, making sandwiches and tea out the back of the van, and then sleeping in it at night. So much fun1

I went to Dublin for 3 days and did some quick half day trips outside Dublin, but I really want to do this road trip you did! I very much agree with going to O’Donoghue’s. So many people have recommended that place!

April 10, 2017 at 9:46 am

Hey Sarah! I am so happy to hear that you were also recommended O’Donoghue’s. When we first arrived we liked it but thought it was a small bar, not realizing there are like 3 to 4 more huge rooms ha ha.

This is a great itinerary. I love Ireland so I am always looking for new things to do there. I really enjoyed the time I spent in Cork and Belfast, but I didn’t get to Dingle! Since you recommend it so highly, I will have to go next time.

April 10, 2017 at 9:47 am

Hi Stella, yes so many people recommended Dingle and we’ve definitely impressed some locals by going there. I think it was a little secret but it is super lovely 🙂

April 15, 2017 at 2:16 pm

This itinerary definitely sounds spectacular, although I must have to admit, that cementery is definitely a tiny bit scary. Thank god you went there during the day and didn’t stay with your Lemmy, who knows what would’ve happened?! I’ve been seeing quite some Ireland posts these days, I think it’s a sign to me as I’ve been looking at ticket for ages already but never quite booked them.

April 21, 2017 at 3:30 am

Ha ha Manon you are so funny! Actually we saw a lot of cemeteries on the road trip but I felt very safe in Lemmy :). I think you need to go to Ireland too!

April 21, 2017 at 3:32 am

Hi Juliana, yes it was a super fun trip! I definitely recommend a Wicked Camper – we loved Lemmy!!

April 19, 2017 at 2:27 am

Looks like an amazing trip! I’m definitely going to take some pointers from your travels and will especially look up the camper van option. One question: are there places along the way to stop for a shower or do you just bring a lot of perfume? 😉

April 21, 2017 at 3:24 am

Ha ha Steph! That’s a great question. We packed baby wipes and we’re lucky enough to get access to showers a few times thanks to friends. However there is the option of campsite facilities to take showers too :).

March 17, 2018 at 1:20 pm

This is a great itinerary. Ireland is on my return list as we had such an amazing time in Dingle diving that I want to see the rest of the country.

Great post! Did you all feel like it was too much time in the car at all? We are planning our honeymoon there and I’m having a hard time narrowing down where we want to visit. Thanks!

August 16, 2018 at 1:53 am

Hi Tamara! (Also awesome that you have the same name as my friend I traveled in Ireland with). I feel like we had a good balance between driving and sightseeing. My friend said that before we began – she didn’t want to spend the whole time driving (which was fair enough). Obviously, if you can do it longer it is better and if not, I would say to skip Belfast and enjoy your time in the other destinations.

September 9, 2018 at 11:59 pm

Hi, can you elaborate more on where you would pull over to sleep or how you would shower? I’m really interested in this trip. Thanks!

September 10, 2018 at 5:36 pm

Hi Kim, sure – we actually didn’t shower every day but used baby wipes to freshen up. As it was autumn in Ireland, we weren’t sweating so much or getting really dirty so this was okay to skip a day for showers. On one night, we stayed in a friend’s Airbnb so we could shower there. You can also go to campgrounds and pay to use the showers there if you need.

Rachel says

December 12, 2018 at 9:09 pm

Great post! Can you say where you would pull over to sleep? Did you find campsites or just stay on the side of the road? I haven’t found any info on good places to sleep in a camper van in Ireland!

December 12, 2018 at 9:48 pm

Hi Rachel! Great question – the official way would be to pay and use a campervan site. However, we were told that for the most part Irish police don’t bother people who are sleeping in their car. For three of the nights, we just found a place to park near the city center. One night, we were able to stay at the Airbnb of a friend and on the last night my friend paid for a hotel because she needed it ha ha. So it is totally up to you and your budget.

Veronica Eeckhout says

May 30, 2019 at 6:24 am

Hi Chantell,

Was there a map you used to find the campervan sites? Also, Great read and pointers!

May 31, 2019 at 2:48 pm

Hey Veronica, we actually didn’t stay in a campervan site. Although that would be the official way – we mostly found a park on the street or near a park. I think you could use Google Maps or try searching. Alternatively, ask the place you are renting the camper from 🙂

The Irish Road Trip

The Best Ireland Itinerary (Irishman’s 2024 Guide)

By Author Keith O'Hara

Posted on Last updated: April 15, 2024

The Best Ireland Itinerary (Irishman’s 2024 Guide)

We spent 8 months and €15,728 building what is, in my opinion, the best Ireland itinerary library available anywhere.

It became clear long ago that there is no such thing as a ‘one-size-fits-all’ Ireland travel itinerary.

For example, some of you will have a car while others will be relying on public transport.

So, we created a library of Ireland itineraries that let you pick a starting point, trip length, method of transport and much  more.

Table of Contents

Some quick need-to-knows about our Ireland itinerary library

best ireland trip itinerary

WAIT – please take 10 seconds to read the points below before you scroll. It’ll make finding your perfect Ireland trip itinerary easier:

1. You can pick your trip length and starting point

Two of the key elements in any Ireland itinerary are the length and the start point. Our road trip itineraries range from 3 days right the way up to 4 weeks. There are also multiple start points including the main ferry terminals and airports in Ireland .

2. You can pick a mode of transport

You can pick an Ireland trip itinerary based on how you plan on getting around Ireland . We have Ireland itineraries that  only  use public transport for those of you doing Ireland without a car . We also have itineraries for those of you that plan on renting a car in Ireland .

3. You can decide how fast you want to travel

Love to squeeze as much as possible into each day? Our ‘Fast Trips’ are just for you! Prefer to take it easy and avoid moving accommodation too often? You’ll love our ‘Slow Trips’.

4. You can choose a travel itinerary for Ireland to suit your fitness

Travelling with someone that has poor mobility? No problem – we have low fitness Ireland itineraries. Want to tackle some of the different hikes in Ireland? We’ve medium-high fitness itineraries just for you!

5. You’ll find our different itineraries starting from 3 days below

Now it’s time for you to find the best Ireland itinerary for  you . We’re gong to start at the 3 day Ireland itineraries and then work our way up to 21 days. Dive on in!

3 days in Ireland

3 days in Ireland

3 days in Ireland is a fairly small amount of time, so you need to be careful – you can easily fall into the trap of trying to do much.

The result is that your itinerary will be over-packed and you’ll spend most of your time in the car/on public transport.

The best Ireland itinerary for 3 days is one that finds a central base and that sees you explore around you on day trips.

Some people with a small amount of time like this can feel disheartened, but don’t – you can see many of the best things to do in Ireland in 3 days. You just need a logical itinerary.

4 days in Ireland

ireland itinerary 4 days

4 days in Ireland is a decent chunk of time. However, if you have the flexibility to chose when to visit Ireland (many don’t), try and arrive during summer or spring.

These two seasons boast plenty of daylight hours so, although you only have 4 days, you’ll still have plenty of time to explore.

These shorter road trips can be tricky to map out at times so, when it comes to planning a trip to Ireland with only 4 days to work with, take your time.

The best Ireland itinerary for 4 days is one that uses 1 – 2 ‘bases’ max and that explores a specific corner of Ireland, e.g. Kerry and West Cork.

5 days in Ireland

ireland itinerary 5 days

5 days in Ireland is arguably the perfect amount of time to explore a section of Ireland.

These are our most popular Ireland itineraries and it’s a trip length that many people visiting Ireland choose.

If it was me, I’d try and fly into either Shannon or Dublin. Landing in Shannon places you right on the Wild Atlantic Way with everywhere from the Aran Islands to the Cliffs of Moher close by.

We’ve had our Ireland vacation itinerary guides live on our site for over a year and they’ve racked up some great reviews. Enjoy!

6 days in Ireland

6 day Ireland itinerary

6 days in Ireland is a lovely amount of time to play with and you can easily cover a decent bit of land during this time.

The beauty of 6 days, also, is that if you’re flying a good distance to get to Ireland, you can take some time out to banish the jet lag.

The best Ireland itinerary for 6 days, in my opinion, is one that doesn’t stretch itself too thin.

If you’re starting in Belfast, for example, tackle the Causeway Coastal Route and then explore the many places to visit in Donegal .

7 days in Ireland

ireland itinerary 7 days

Our itineraries for spending 7 days in Ireland mark the start of our longer Irish road trips.

Trips of this length are great as they give you a lot of flexibility when it comes to what you can do (even if it’ll see the cost of a trip to Ireland increase steadily).

If you’re visiting for 7 days, try and visit during summer or spring as the weather in Ireland tends to be better then and you’ll get more bang-for-your-buck.

8 days in Ireland

8 days in Ireland

8 days in Ireland provides you with options. You aren’t too hard pressed for time and 8 days ensures you don’t have to rush at any point (unless you want to!).

With 8 days, you can explore several counties in depth or you can go full-steam-ahead and try and squeeze in as much as possible.

The best Ireland trip itinerary for 8 days, for me, would be starting in Dublin and then working down through Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford and then around through Cork and Kerry.

9 days in Ireland

9 days in Ireland

So, you’re spending 9 days in Ireland . Wonderful! However, you want to see all of the ‘main’ attractions during this time and you’re worried it’s too much.

It’s likely (and I’m basing this on getting emails from endless visitors) that you’re trying to pack in too much to the point that you’ll spend all your time moving accommodation and travelling.

9 days is a lovely chunk of time. But don’t get carried away. You can see and do  a lot  during this time frame. You just need to decide how much travelling about is ‘too much’.

10 days in Ireland

10 days in Ireland

The second most popular of our Ireland vacation itinerary guides are the ones focused on spending 10 days in Ireland .

This is a mighty amount of time for an Irish road trip and it gives you a huge amount of flexibility.

For this trip length, you could easily pick 3-4 bases and fit a huge amount in while still taking it nice and handy. Or, you could go full whack and try and see as much of the island as possible!

11 days in Ireland

11 day Ireland itinerary

Our itineraries for spending 11 days in Ireland have gone down well since we published them last year.

In particular, the ones that use public transport have received good feedback, especially as planning buses and trains for this number of days was a nightmare .

The best Ireland itinerary for 11 days is up for debate. Personally, I think if you have this amount of time to play with the island is your oyster – you just need to pick a well-thought-out route, which is our Ireland trip itinerary library comes in.

12 days in Ireland

12 day Ireland itinerary

If you’re spending 12 days in Ireland , you’re in for a treat. You can see a whole lot in 12 days, from the  many  castles in Ireland to islands, cliffs and lots more.

You don’t have to worry too much when it comes to picking a start point for a trip of this length, as you’ve a bit of room for error.

If I had the option, I’d start in Cork and drive the Wild Atlantic Way, taking in the likes of Kinsale , the Beara Peninsula , Doolin and Achill Island .

13 days in Ireland

13 day Ireland itinerary

If you have 13 days in Ireland you’ll be the envy of many, and for good reason – you can cover a lot of ground in a 13 day Ireland trip itinerary.

We’ve created 56 different Ireland itineraries for a 13-day trip (yes, 56) and they’ve been used by over 100,000 people in only a few short months.

The different routes take in everywhere from County Mayo and County Clare to some of the most charming small towns in Ireland . Check ’em out below!

14 days in Ireland

2 week Ireland itinerary

Our 14 days in Ireland itineraries were some of the most enjoyable to research, plan and write as we had a fair idea that this trip length would be popular.

Thankfully, it was! Those of you planning a 2-week Ireland trip itinerary are on the cusp of a bucket list road trip that you’ll remember for a life time.

Although I’d argue that there’s no best Ireland itinerary for a trip this length, we’ve created 56 different options for you to choose from at the link below.

15 days in Ireland

15 days in Ireland

15 days in Ireland poses a great number of adventure opportunities. If you’re doing Ireland on a budget , you’ll need to be careful about where you pick as your bases.

I’d avoid the various cities in Ireland along with key tourist towns and, if you can, stay slightly off-the-beaten-path.

We spent a huge amount of time mapping out our 17-day Ireland itineraries and, based on initial feedback, they’re going down very well already!

16 days in Ireland

16 day ireland itinerary

16 days in Ireland is the stuff of road-trip-envy. You’ll have the chance to see a massive amount of Ireland during this time.

As was the case with all of our Ireland vacation itinerary guides, we spent a lot of time planning our 16-day routes.

At the link below, you’ll be able to pick a trip based on start point, fitness level, mode of transport and how fast you like to travel.

17 days in Ireland

17 days in Ireland

17 days in Ireland is, yep, a good chunk of time. We found these Ireland itineraries tricky to plan out at times, especially the ones that use public transport.

However, we got there in the end and these routes have been read over 70,000 times in recent months.

The best Ireland itinerary for this length of time is one that doesn’t go overboard when it comes to moving hotels and that takes the time to experience each of the areas it uses as a base.

18 days in Ireland

18 day ireland itinerary

18 days in Ireland is a massive amount of time to work with. However, it’s worth getting a sense of the lay of the land with a trip of this length.

Although you can see plenty on an 18-day Ireland travel itinerary, the aul trap of spreading yourself too thin is an easy one to fall into.

Our 18-day Ireland itineraries took a fair bit of time to map out and I’m confident you’ll find them  very  useful.

19 days in Ireland

19 day Ireland itinerary

19 days in Ireland is another considerable amount of time. However, and I’ll sound like a broken record, it comes with advantages and disadvantages.

It’s easy to fall into a trap when planning an Ireland itinerary of this length and think,  ‘Ah, sure we’ve loads of time – we’ll just head over and play it by ear!” .

19 days requires a lot of planning as there are  many  moving parts with a trip of this length. Luckily, you’ll find the best Ireland itinerary for 19 days at the link below.

20 days in Ireland

20 day ireland itinerary

Few people, aside from those of us that live here, get to spend 20 days in Ireland .

This is a massive amount of time and it gives you the opportunity to either explore one corner of Ireland in depth or squeeze in as much as possible.

For example, you could explore Kerry (the Ring of Kerry , Dingle Peninsula , etc) and then work your way through West Cork, Waterford, Wexford and more.

The best Ireland itinerary for 20 days is one picks an adequate number of bases near key areas of interest and that avoids falling into the trap of trying to ‘fit everything in’.

21 days in Ireland

21 days in Ireland

21 days in Ireland is a huge amount of time, and this comes with both pros and cons.

You could arguably map out the best Ireland itinerary imaginable with 3 weeks, but you’ll also need to spend a lot of time planning.

This was the hardest of our Ireland vacation itinerary guides to create and the research phase took over 12 days. We did the hard work for you – cheers!

FAQs about the best Ireland trip itinerary

We’ve had a lot of questions over the years asking about everything from Ireland vacation ideas to detailed train itineraries.

In the section below, we’ve popped in the most FAQs that we’ve received. If you have a question that we haven’t tackled, ask away in the comments section below.

What is the best Ireland itinerary?

I’d argue that there is no best Ireland travel itinerary – no ‘one size fits all’. We’ve created hundreds of Ireland itineraries for you to choose from, in an attempt to help you find the best Ireland itinerary based on your situation.

How many days in Ireland is enough?

It depends. If you’re looking to see specific things and they’re close together, 5 days could be plenty. If you’re looking to see the West of Ireland, you’ll want at least 7. There is one one clear answer.

Is Rick Steves Ireland itinerary good?

By all accounts, Rick Steves Ireland itinerary guides are pretty good. I’ve spoken to many Americans, in particular, visiting Ireland for the first time who swear by Rick’s itineraries.

Keith O'Hara

Friday 8th of April 2022

Hey Nicola - I don't, but this is weird timing. Myself and my dad have been chatting about doing a trip with our dog who's an absolute nightmare in the car. So, while we've nothing on planning a trip in Ireland for those with a dog yet, but hopefully it's on the horizon!

Hello. Thanks for all your posts. They are very informative and helpful.

One questions, when planning can we assume the driving times we see on Google Maps are more or less accurate? I know there are a lot of country roads and I didn't know if this was taken into account by Google.

Thanks again!

Hello Keith,

I’m just writing to thank you for doing this. I do not have a set date for when I can come to Ireland but reading the info you provided and the extensive comments you’ve answered, I almost feel like I’ve been to Ireland already! I know that’s when I can finally plan my trip, this website will be my go to for planning my trip! God bless you Keith!

A fine message to wake up to! Thanks a million Heather - I'm glad you found it useful. Hopefully your visit is just over the horizon.

Cheers from a cold and sunny Dublin!

Sunday 17th of May 2020

Hi Keith, I am planning to take my grandparents to Ireland next spring. My grandmother has always wanted to go and never got the chance to travel. However, they are not in the best of health and I don't think they could handle walking an hour+ (which seems to be the best/only way to see some of the main spots you mention in your recommended itineraries).

Do you have any recommendations for best places to go that don't require much of a hike? My Grandparents would love: beautiful landscapes, local places that don't feel touristy (they always manage to make friends with locals while out eating, etc), places of historical significance.

Hey! A lot of people planning a visit to Ireland have this problem, but it can definitely be worked around.

Say, for example, they're very limited mobility wise, if you took them to Donegal, there's plenty of places where you can literally drive right up to for an incredible view.

Here's a couple of examples:

- The Slieve League Cliffs: you can drive right up to the 'main' view - Ballymastocker Bay: you can pull in on the road above and grab an incredible view - The Inishowen 100 drive: there's an endless number of great views on this (the one at Tra Na Rossan is unreal!

If you're looking for lovely little towns, you can't bate Ardara (Nancy's pub, in particular, is lovely!).

I hope this helps!

Ireland Itinerary: The Perfect 6 Day Vacation 2023

Photo of author

Searching for the perfect Ireland itinerary? Here’s your guide to spending six days exploring the beautiful country of Ireland.

From the bustling cities of Dublin, Cork, and Galway to the rolling hills in County Wicklow, you’ll have a chance to experience a true overview of Ireland’s greatest hits. In fact, you won’t have to choose to visit Cork or Dublin because you’ll have a full day in both cities, in addition to a day in Galway.

Those who love to get outside will enjoy full days of hiking in both the Wicklow Mountains and along the Cliffs of Moher, two of the most incredible spots in Ireland. End your trip with great food and traditional music in Galway.

Ireland Itinerary: Trip Overview

Pub in Temple Bar in Dublin

This Ireland itinerary takes you around the country of Ireland in six days, offering a whirlwind tour of some of the most famous places in the country.

Ireland Itinerary Day One: Explore Dublin and Temple Bar

Kings Head Pub in Galway

Start your visit to Ireland with a day exploring the capital of Dublin. You’ll see many of the most famous attractions in Dublin and have a chance to try poitín, a traditional Irish spirit.

Grab breakfast at one of the hip spots in town, ideally a full Irish breakfast. One Society or Brother Hubbard are both great restaurant options near Temple Bar.

Then, set off to explore Temple Bar. Note that, in Dublin, Temple Bar is the name for the area in the city center, though there is also a pub called the Temple Bar.

Make your way to Trinity College, where you can see the incredible Trinity College Dublin Library and the Book of Kells. Be sure to book your tickets in advance, as they’re likely to sell out. Then, wander in and out of the shops along Wicklow Street, a fabulous area in the Temple Bar.

For a little greenery, check out St Stephen’s Green – one of the most popular parks in Dublin. You can grab a donut from the Rolling Donut and people watch in the park, a great pastime on a sunny day.

Then, swing by Stephen’s Green Shopping Center to admire the architecture. The building was designed like a greenhouse, with lots of natural light and beautiful steelwork.

Finally, walk up and down Grafton Street. There are typically performers playing live music on the street on weekends.

Finally, grab dinner at a local pub and wind your way towards Bar 1661. This little spot near Temple Bar is one of the most popular cocktail bars in the country. Their signature cocktail is the Belfast Coffee, a play on the classic Irish Coffee but made with poitín, a traditional Irish spirit.

If traveling with children , you can instead stroll along the River Liffey and take in some of the more popular statues. The Famine Memorial and Molly Malone Statue are worth seeing, and only about 15 minutes apart on foot.

A few steps past the Molly Malone Statue is Murphy’s Ice Cream, a local creamery with inventive and exciting Irish flavors. Try classic flavors or something more adventurous, like Irish brown bread or Dingle sea salt.

Ireland Itinerary Day Two: Hike in the Beautiful Wicklow Mountains

Glendalough in County Wicklow

The second day of your Irish road trip will be focused on hiking and exploring the beautiful Wicklow Mountains.

Start your day by exploring Glendalough, a glacial lake with incredible views. Hikers can complete the 6-mile Spinc Trail loop around the lake, or walkers may prefer to walk along the flat, wooded portion of the trail.

Grab lunch at the nearby Wicklow Heather, a traditional pub with an outdoor patio and fun, vintage decor. Then, make your way to one of the nearby gardens.

You could stroll through the glossy and beautiful Powerscourt Estate, complete with expansive gardens representing different areas of the world. Or, for a more unique experience, visit Victor’s Way, with enormous granite statues that are designed to be thought-provoking and challenging.

For dinner, visit the seaside city of Bray. There are a number of great restaurants to choose from, but Daata is a local favorite. After dinner, take a quick walk along the seaside, where you may even find people swimming or sailing in the Irish Sea.

Ireland Itinerary Day Three: Drive Along Ireland’s Ancient East to Cork

Sunset over the Atlantic in County Kerry

After a hearty breakfast, start making your way towards Cork City. If you’re feeling comfortable driving on the Irish roads, you can take the incredibly scenic route through the Wicklow Gap. The windy roads offer picturesque views of the Wicklow Mountains.

After you pass the Wicklow Gap, the route will take you along country roads surrounded by lush, rolling hills. You’ll pass charming small Irish towns along the drive, where you can stop for a break or a few essentials if you’d like.

Take a detour and stop for a few hours in Tramore, a small coastal town in County Waterford. There’s a boardwalk with rides that kids will enjoy, a beach, and Seagull Bakery, one of the only sourdough bakeries in Ireland. If you arrive when the tide is out, kids can play in the tide pools that form in the rocks.

Finish the drive into Cork and check into your hotel. From there, you can head into town and check out the action on Oliver Plunkett Street. This lively area is home to a collection of pubs and restaurants.

Have dinner at Market Lane, a spot with great food and a large menu that can accommodate most dietary restrictions. The space is larger than most in Cork, so it’s usually easy to get a table even without a reservation.

If you still have some energy and want to go out on the town, visit the Shelbourne Bar for Irish whiskey or Sin é, a local pub known for having live music.

Ireland Itinerary Day Four: Explore Cork

View from Elizabeth Fort - Cork

On your fourth day in Ireland, explore Cork, Ireland’s Rebel City. Start off with breakfast at one of the best local restaurants, then take a walking tour of the city and visit Blarney Castle. In the evening, explore Cork’s nightlife in the city center or Victorian Quarter.

Start your day with a coffee and breakfast at one of the best restaurants in Cork, the Good Day Deli. Set on the beautiful grounds of Nano Nagle Place, this little cafe offers a small menu of tasty brunch options like smoked beetroot eggs benedict or Turkish eggs.

Get the lay of the land with a walking tour of Cork , where you can see most of the city’s landmarks and learn about its history. There are tours that cater to many types of groups, including one specifically designed for young children.

Have lunch at Izz Cafe, Gusto, or another quick spot in town. Then, spend the rest of the afternoon at Blarney Castle, a 20-minute drive outside of the city. You can explore the stunning castle grounds and kiss the infamous Blarney Stone, said to bestow people with the “gift of the gab.”

Have dinner at another local spot in Cork’s city center, like Sonflour (reservation recommended), or in the Victorian Quarter. Son of a Bun is a great budget-friendly option with burgers, or you could go to Cask for tapas and a great outdoor seating area.

Ireland Itinerary Day Five: Hike Along the Cliffs of Moher

Cliffs of Moher in Ireland

The Cliffs of Moher are a UNESCO Geopark, renowned for their striking beauty and wildness. Many visitors only make it to the Visitors Center, skipping the incredible hike along the tops of the cliffs.

Drive 2.5 hours to the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare.

Serious hikers can start the hike at Hag’s Head and travel towards the Visitors Center, a hike that will take a few hours. For almost the entire hike, you’ll enjoy incredible views of the cliffs and the open Atlantic Ocean.

If you’re not sure that you can complete the entire hike along the Cliffs, just park at the Visitor’s Center and hike as far as you’d like towards Hag’s Head. The views are essentially the same, but you’ll have a little more control over how long you’re on the trail.

You can bring lunch with you, or there’s a cafe in the Visitor’s Center. An even better option would be to grab lunch at one of the food trucks along the trail, but they’re seasonal and have unpredictable hours, so it’s best not to rely on them.

Finish your hike and head towards your hotel for the evening. Even though the Cliffs of Moher hike is flat, the trail is long, and the weather can be cold, so it’s a big activity for kids.

You can stay the night in the nearby town of Doolin or find a hotel in Limerick or Galway . There are a few small pubs in Doolin, perfect for a cozy dinner with a distinctly local feel. Otherwise, both Limerick and Galway have a number of restaurants to choose from.

Ireland Itinerary Day Six: Listen to Trad Music in Galway

Galway City in Ireland

Your final full day in Ireland is the perfect time to visit the city of Galway. The city is known for its traditional “trad” music sessions and bustling Latin Quarter.

Make your way to Galway after breakfast, where you can explore the city on foot. Start your day at Eyre Square, then walk along High Street for shopping, live music, and plenty of restaurants.

Coffeewerk + Press is a fabulous coffee shop with great espresso drinks and an adorable, eclectic gift shop. They have a selection of gifts that will delight Wes Anderson lovers and anyone with an eye for Scandinavian design.

Visit a few of the landmarks in Galway, like the Galway Cathedral and the Spanish Arch. You can also pay a visit to the Galway City Museum, where the free exhibits offer insight into the history and cultural significance of the area.

Continue your walk across the Wolfe Tone Bridge and explore Galway’s Westend. This area is more popular with locals, so you’ll see fewer tourists, but there are still plenty of shops and restaurants.

Have dinner at a spot on High Street, then set off in search of some live music. Taafe’s Bar and the Daíl Bar are great spots to see live traditional music sessions, also known as “trad” sessions.

For something a little different, you can also visit the King’s Head Pub. This pub is over 800 years old, making a living piece of history. They even carry an exclusive beer, the Blood Red Ale, from Galway Hooker, a local brewery.

If you want to stay overnight, consider Wooduay Hostel in Galway . You’ll find a wide range of mixed, female & private dorms in this cozy, quirky, original Galway townhouse nestled in the Woodquay area of the city.

Your final night will be spent in Dublin where you can continue your sightseeing, taking in such historic places as Trinity College where the Book of Kells exhibition can be found, the fascinating Christchurch Cathedral or Kilmainham Gaol to name but a few. Tour itinerary

Day 1 - dublin to galway.

ireland tour 6 days

Just north of Dublin, you will find Ireland's most visited attraction, the megalithic tombs in Newgrange . One of the great wonders of the ancient world, Newgrange is older than Stonehenge, Mycenae or even the Pyramids of Egypt. The magnificent entrance slab - 'one of the most famous stones in the entire repertory of megalithic art' - is especially satisfying, the confidently executed spiral and lozenge motifs still crisply defined after 5,000 years. Also close by is the Hill of Tara, said to be the seat of the ancient high Kings of Ireland and of course Trim Castle, the setting for the Mel Gibson movie ‘Braveheart’. A slight detour at Moate just before the town of Athlone will bring you to the Ancient Monastic Settlement of Clonmacnoise.

An early Christian site founded by Saint Ciaran in the 6 th century on the banks of the River Shannon, the site includes the ruins of a cathedral, eight churches (10 th -13 th century), two round towers, three high crosses and large collection of early Christian grave slabs.  On to Galway, the ‘City of the Tribes’, also known as Ireland’s Cultural and festival capital. With its street entertainers and traditional pubs with great music, Galway and in particular, the Quays area of the city centre will enthrall you particularly in the evening time. Other sites in Galway include Ireland’s largest medieval parish church, the Collegiate Church of St Nicholas of Myra dating back to 1320 . Christopher Columbus reputedly worshipped in this church in 1477. Also nearby are Galway Cathedral , the Spanish Arch and Eyre Square .

Day 2 - Galway and the Connemara Region

ireland tour 6 days

The hauntingly beautiful Connemara Region awaits you. Just west of Galway, situated on the most western seaboard of Europe, this unspoilt region boasts breathtaking scenery. The characteristic features of Connemara include its rugged, unpolluted coastline, dramatic mountains, numerous lakes and rivers and woodlands and the renowned Connemara National Park. Visit Kylemore Abbey and the Lough Inagh Valley as well as the spectacular Sky Road near the town of Clifden. You can also visit the fishing village of Roundstone and see how a ‘Bodhran’ (traditional Irish Drum) is made. Alternatively, you may prefer to take the ferry to the Aran Islands. Aran will take you back to an Ireland of Celts and Early Christians. Take a pony and trap, or a guided tour from the pier up the island to the stone fort of Dun Aengus. Dún Aengus is located on top of a 300ft high sea cliff and is one of the finest prehistoric monuments in Western Europe. This evening, back to the Quays area of the city for some of the best traditional entertainment in the country.

Day 3 - Galway to Killarney

ireland tour 6 days

A long but dramatic days touring will bring you from Galway along the west coast of Ireland to Killarney. Travel through the karst moon like landscape of the Burren through the village of Doolin which is world-famous for its traditional Irish music to one of Ireland’s best-known tourist attractions, the Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland's top Visitor attractions and are a designated UNESCO Geo Park. From the Cliffs the Aran Islands can be seen as well as the Twelve Pins and Maum Turk Mountains.  After soaking up the views travel onward to Bunratty Castle, built in 1425, this grandiose castle was renovated in 1954 to its prior medieval splendour. Within the grounds of the Castle Bunratty Folk Park you will find 19th century Irish life recreated. As you journey to Killarney we recommend that you stop in the quaint town of Adare. Adare is regarded by many a seasoned traveller as Ireland’s prettiest village with its charming thatched cottages, manicured public park and ancient church. From Adare, the town of Killarney is approximately one more hour by car. You will arrive in plenty of time to enjoy the great pubs and enjoy the traditional Irish music on offer.

Day 4 - The Ring of Kerry and Muckross House

ireland tour 6 days

There are numerous day trips to be had while based in Killarney. The two most scenic drives in the area include the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula Driving routes, two of Ireland’s most picturesque drives. The Ring of Kerry includes visits to colourful villages, ancient heritage sites dotted around the peninsula including Skellig Michael just off the Kerry coast and Staigue Fort. The Dingle Peninsula has more interesting antiquities, historic sites and varied mountain scenery than any other part of Ireland. The main town Dingle is the most westerly in Europe and attracts large numbers of visitors each year, many of whom come to learn the Irish language in the surrounding Irish speaking district. Also in the area are An Dún Beag Promontory Fort from 800 BC as well as the Blasket Islands and Gallarus Oratory. Gallarus Oratory was built between the seventh and eighth century and is the best preserved early Christian church in Ireland. On to Brandon Creek from where legend has it that St. Brendan discovered the North American continent in the 6th century. Alternative routes include day trips to Blarney Castle and the Titanic Train in Cork or the northern route to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren region of County Clare including Bunratty Castle. If you wish to stay closer to Killarney, take a wonderful walk or pony and trap through the Gap of Dunloe, returning to Killarney by boat across the Lakes of Killarney.

Day 5 - Killarney to Kilkenny

ireland tour 6 days

Though the journey from Killarney to Kilkenny is a relatively long one, there are plenty of attractions to visit en-route to make the journey seem shorter.  First of these would be Cahir Castle, one of Ireland’s largest and best-preserved castles it was once an important stronghold of the powerful Butler family. Very close to Cahir Castle you will find the Rock of Cashel which was once the seat of the Kings of Munster and capital of this southern province.  For those who wish to explore a somewhat longer route to Kilkenny, Blarney Castle awaits. Here you will find the famous Blarney Stone which when kissed is said to grant the skill of eloquence. Often referred to as Ireland’s Medieval Capital; Kilkenny’s origins date back more than 1,500 years. This small city is full of captivating, historical buildings and Kilkenny Castle is a 12th century castle remodelled in Victorian times and set in extensive parklands. Built on the site of an earlier church, most of the work that produced this beautiful Gothic building was carried out in the 13th Century. Also in Kilkenny is Saint Canice's Cathedral, the second longest of Ireland's medieval cathedrals.

Day 6 - Kilkenny to Dublin

ireland tour 6 days

This journey will take just under 2 hours. If you wish to make a side trip on route to the capital, a visit to the National Stud & Japanese Gardens just outside Kildare Town would be an option.  The Japanese Gardens are situated in the grounds of the Stud Farm and were created between 1906 and 1910. The National Stud comprises three separate attractions. The 1,000 acre Farm at Tully has been in use as a Stud Farm since 1900 when it was owned by Col. William Hall-Walker. It is home to some of Ireland's finest thoroughbreds. There's a Horse Museum tracing the history of the horse in Ireland using artifacts, illustrations and text and the skeleton of the legendary steeplechaser 'Arkle'. In fact the winner of the 2003 Californian ‘Breeders Cup Mile’ race is a National Stud horse, the 3rd in the last 9 years. . The quandary that you will be faced with when you reach Dublin is, not what you should see but that you should leave out. Knee-deep in history and with its own unique sense of humour and wit, Dublin is an invigorating city. Take the opportunity to visit some of Ireland’s most history laden locations, including Trinity College and the Book of Kells, Dublin Castle, Kilmainham Gaol, The National History Museum and not forgetting The Guinness Brewery, St. Patrick’s Cathedral & why not finish up the day in Dublin’s Temple Bar section and enjoy the wonderful pubs and music it is famous for.

"Exceptional hospitality"

May 2024 by Dineen E

Being from the States, my husband and I have NEVER experienced the level of hospitality that we experienced here, in Ireland. This was my very first time, traveling Internationally. At age 60,:this begins my husband and mine “decade of travel”. I would like to particularly point out the exceptional service that was provided on day 6 of our 6 day rail tour. Our host was extremely pleasant and shared so much knowledge with the group, It was impressive. He was constantly looking out for the well being of each of us on the tour. At every stop, where we left the train/bus, Jon would count our group… making sure that we were all there and accounted for. I am on the “ slower” side and John NEVER made me feel rushed. He was communicative about when our “toilet” stops were approaching. The same when it came to our chances to pick up something to eat or get a beverage. He was equally as generous with his time. Overlooking how our meals were enjoyed, going from each car on the train to look in on the entire train ride back to Dublin. There really are not enough accolades to express what joy John contributed to our railway experience!!! It was beyond lovely, and lent itself to be one of our favorite experiences in Ireland.

"Forget the hassle, let this tour take care of you."

Oct 2023 by Vicki K

They really had it together. We signed up for a six day tour and added two extra days in Dublin. We were met at the airport as arranged and taken to our hotel. Our guide for the first three days was Brian and he was fabulous. Funny and knowledgeable. All our other guides were excellent also. We really saw everything we wanted to without the hassle of organizing it! They did a good job of breaking up the drives at interesting and beautiful stops. They dealt promptly with any questions I had. The hotels were very nice and located centrally. Highly recommend.

I have just returned from my first rail tour of ireland. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to the end. The guides were fantastic. The drivers of the coaches were amazing. I couldn't praise them enough. The trains were excellent all round; railtoursireland first class was first class.

"Excellent Train and Coach Tour of Ireland"

Oct 2021 by Sharon R, USA

ireland tour 6 days

This trip was over a year in planning due to Covid. Fiona and Mervyn were very helpful as the tours and dates available were constantly changing. We finally were able to book the All Ireland Rail Tour from Dublin and the Two Day trip to Belfast from Dublin. I recommend arriving several days ahead of your scheduled tour to spend time in Dublin and recover from jet lag if you are traveling from the States. All of the guides were very helpful and knowledgeable. Michael was my favorite! The hotels and the food at the various pubs was excellent! What a wonderful way to see as much of Ireland as possible in a limited amount of time.

Enlightening Emerald Island Tour

We took the 6 day tour which took us to the Killarney area, Galway, and Northern Ireland. We visited Blarney and Bunratty Castles, Ring of Kerry, Connemara, a Folk park, the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, St. Colman’s Cathedral and the Heritage Center at Cobh, Kylemore Abbey, Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and Giant’s Causeway. Due to the remnants of Hurricane Lorenzo, our day trip to Inis Mor in the Aran islands was canceled. John Scott provided history as we Cork and Cobh the first day, helping us get oriented to his country. Jonathan Beaumont was our guide for the remainder of the trip. He has an excellent command of Ireland’s history, an appreciation for the connection created through music, a talent for sharing the legends and folklore. He interjects all this with “ myths” about Ireland and a sense of humor with his jokes. All of this was well- balanced to keep our interest. On our Aran Island canceled tour day, he offered to come up with other activities. I thoroughly enjoyed him as a guide. The country is about the vibrant green pastures with sheep, the folklore, the music, the excellent pub food. Traveling long distance by train, then having two days to tour the area was nice. I felt we had ample time to explore each area....and see as much as we could of this country. Hats of to the team in bright yellow: Railtours Ireland!

Blarney Castle

Absolutely fabulous tour, accommodations and guides. These people at Railtours really had their act together. We had great guides with us every step of the trip and they went out of their way to make us feel like “King of the Hill”. Shout out to Peter and Paddy great job guys. If you are interested in going to Ireland this tour is the only way to go. And the best is the price there is no way we could have done and seen all we did for this cost.

"Wonderful 6-day trip! "

Cliffs of Moher

Thank you to RailTours for a wonderful 6-day trip! I researched Ireland tours extensively and am so glad we chose RailTours.  All of your guides were like history books of Ireland!   Andy and Paddy, specifically, will always be remembered very fondly. Andy was so very knowledgeable, patient and kind to our very diverse group.  His in-depth knowledge of Ireland was awesome and interspersed with humor and singing, which made the 3 days on the Wild Atlantic so wonderful.  Paddy was our guide for the Dublin/Belfast part of the trip.  He was genuinely concerned for our comfort on the long day from Dublin to Giant's Causeway and return.  He made both the sights and the train trip delightful with his knowledge and conversation. Thank you to all RailTour employees whom we encountered both on the phone prior to our trip and on our trip.  RailTours is the way to visit Ireland!  Again, thank you so very much for a wonderful trip!

Visitor Attraction Admissions Included: Blarney Castle and Gardens, Cóbh Heritage Centre, the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience, Kylemore Abbey and Gardens, Dún Aonghasa and the Giant's Causeway.

FREE UPGRADE TO 4* HOTEL IN KILLARNEY, SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY IN OUR PARTNER HOTELS AT THE TIME OF BOOKING.

Check-in is 20 minutes prior to Train Departure Time - look for our check-in hosts in the yellow jackets!

Check-in beside the Customer Service Desk in Heuston Station where our representative will be waiting for you in their bright yellow jacket!

Check-in for 07:00 departure from Dublin Heuston Station.

Your departure station, Dublin Heuston, was opened in 1844 as the headquarters of the Great Southern & Western Railway and is now the official principal station of Iarnród Éireann – Ireland’s national railway company.

As your train departs, we travel in a south westerly direction, passing Inchicore, railway engineering works and then some of Dublin’s western suburbs – soon we are in the lush fertile countryside of County Kildare, Ireland’s Kentucky. Look out for the many stud farms near the track. The train passes through the town of Newbridge, home to the famous Newbridge Silverware.

We now enter the Curragh of Kildare, which soon comes into view on both sides of the line. The Curragh (pronounced: Curra) is famous for its racecourse, home of the Irish Derby. At this time of the morning you are likely to see some of Ireland's finest bloodstock being put through their paces. The Curragh is also the headquarters of the Irish army and their buildings can be seen in the distance to the east.

We pass the town of Kildare, and the Church of Ireland (Protestant) Cathedral of St. Brigid’s – completed in 1223 – can be clearly seen to the south (left hand side when facing direction of travel). We cross the River Barrow at Monesterevin and enter Co. Laois.

Our train journey makes a stop at Portlaoise (pronounced: Port Leesh-eh). Departing Portlaoise, we soon enter Co. Tipperary and pass the town of Templemore. Shortly after, we pass Loughmoe Castle which can be clearly seen on the southern side of the train, built in the 15th century, the Purcell family lived there until 1760. The next stop is at the town of Thurles. At our next stop – Limerick Junction – a number of Railtours Ireland clients will be leaving the train for the Cliffs of Moher tour. Please remain on the train for the Cork, Blarney Castle and Cobh Heritage Day Tour! Our final stop before Cork is at the town of Mallow.

We arrive into Cork Kent Station for 09:35 and we transfer to our Railtours Ireland tour coach, passing through Cork City en route to Blarney Village and historic Blarney Castle & Gardens, built in 1446 by Dermot McCarthy. You will have time to kiss the famous stone, which is said to bestow the gift of eternal eloquence on those lucky enough to do so. There is also time for shopping and lunch at Blarney and we recommend that you have lunch there, as this will be the only opportunity during the day to have a substantial meal.

We depart Blarney Castle for Cóbh, via the city centre, taking in some of the city sights while en route to our next destination.

On arrival at Cóbh, we will visit St. Colman’s Cathedral. We will then proceed down along the sea front passing the former White Star Line offices en route to the beautifully restored Victorian railway station/transatlantic terminal. This is now the Cóbh Heritage Centre, home to the Queenstown Story. The centre also houses much information about the Great Famine and subsequent Irish Emigration; 3 million Irish people emigrated from Cóbh, (principally to the United States) including Annie Moore, whose statue is located in front of the heritage centre.

Depart Cóbh by train to Killarney, where the rest of the evening is free. There is a large selection of cafés, restaurants and bars in Killarney town as well as many opportunities for live traditional Irish music and entertainment.

Ring Of Kerry Tour

Enjoy your Ful Irish Breakfast at leisure before departing on your Ring of Kerry tour.

There are plenty of stops along the Ring of Kerry for morning tea, lunch and photo stops etc. Ireland’s highest mountains are located in Kerry and Carrauntouhil, which can be seen en route, is the highest, standing at 1041 metres.

We will make a stop at the Kerry Bog Village Museum, which gives people an insight into how people lived and worked in rural Ireland in the 18th century. The village is the only one of its kind in Europe. Later on the approach to Waterville there are views (weather permitting) of the Skellig Rocks (islands), where Star Wars 'The Force Awakens' was recently filmed.

We will make several photo stops, a stop for lunch and one final stop at the pretty village of Sneem, for about 30 minutes, or as directed by your tour leader.

An essential part of any visit to Ireland, this tour circles the magnificent MacGillycuddy Reeks and runs through its many passes and valleys along the shores of Dingle Bay and Kenmare Bay. There is an unspoilt nature to Ireland's most beautiful region and the Ring of Kerry provides many unforgettable memories as it passes through the many picturesque villages such as Glenbeigh, Waterville and Sneem and returns via Ladies View, the famous Lakes of Killarney and through the Oakwoods of Killarney's magnificent National Park.

At the end of the tour you will be brought to Killarney for your second night.

Limerick, Cliffs of Moher & Galway

Galway City Centre

Enjoy your full Irish Breakfast at Leisure.

07:30 Depart Killarney by road to Limerick to join the Bunratty Castle and Cliffs of Moher Tour.

Arrive into Limerick where we will join our Railtours Ireland tour coach. Limerick has a population of about 90,000 and its city charter was granted in 1197AD, making it older than London! As we cross the river Shannon - Ireland’s longest river - you will see views of King John’s Castle to the right. The castle was completed in 1200 and marks the origins of the city.

Limerick’s most famous author, Frank McCourt, grew up here and the city was the setting for his famous book Angela’s Ashes. Limerick is also the birthplace of celebrated BBC radio DJ, Terry Wogan and Hollywood star, Richard Harris. We will pass the GAA grounds of Páirc na nGael –the home ground of County Limerick’s Hurling and Gaelic Football teams. Limerick is also the home of Irish Rugby and we will pass Thomond Park, the Rugby stadium.

After a brief city tour we travel onto Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. The castle was completed in 1425 and, after many years of neglect, has been restored to its former glory. There is also a folk park here which you will have time to explore.

After the visit to Bunratty Castle and Folk park we make our way to Co. Clare. There is a lunch stop at a local pub before arriving at the Cliffs of Moher, which are among the highest sea cliffs in Europe. There is plenty of time to visit Ireland’s second most popular tourist attraction and your host will advise you of the departure time. From here, we take the coast road for much of the way to Galway, with time for photos along the Burren. This is a national park and the word 'Burren' comes from the Irish Language, meaning ‘rocky place’. It is a unique lunar landscape of limestone which was described in 1649 by one of Oliver Cromwell’s men as: “No tree to hang a man, no water deep enough to drown him and no soil deep enough to bury him”. Today the Burren is noted for its diverse flora with few parallels elsewhere in Ireland or, indeed, Europe.

We continue along the coast road to Black Head, passing the quaint coastal villages of Ballyvaughan and Kinvara before joining the main road to Galway.

At the end of the day the coach will set you down at Eyre Square, in the centre of Galway City, adjacent to your hotel (and the railway station). You will be directed to your hotel by your host and your evening is free in Galway.

The Aran Islands - filming location of the Oscar nominated 'Banshees of Inisherin'

Depart Galway City for transfer to Inis Mór, the largest of the three Aran Islands. Irish is the spoken language on the Aran Islands, although the locals will be more than happy to speak to you in English. For many, the highlight of the tour is the formidable pre-Christian fort of Dún Aonghasa, with spectacular sea-cliffs on the western side and unspoilt views of the Atlantic Ocean. Transfer times may vary seasonly.

Notes on Aran: Your tour of Inis Mór includes stops at 'Seven Churches' (15 minutes), Dún Aonghusa (75 minutes) and Kilronan for lunch (45 minutes).

After your day's touring you will be returned to your Galway hotel.

Connemara & Kylemore Abbey

Dublin City Centre

Enjoy your full Irish breakfast at leisure.

Depart Galway and our conducted tour of Connemara leaves Galway to the village of Moycullen. From Moycullen the road rises and falls towards the lovely village of Oughterard on the shores of Lough Corrib, traditionally regarded as Ireland’s premier angling centre. Now the gateway to Connemara opens, and the breathtaking colours of this unspoilt countryside are revealed in all their natural splendour.

At Maam Cross, the "Connemara Crossroads", there is a replica of the cottage used in the 1950s John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara film The Quiet Man, which was filmed here. From Maam Cross, our tour heads out to Leenane, Kylemore Abbey and Letterfrack, in the shadow of purple mountains rolling down to blue and green rocky valleys, reflecting the rich and varied colours of Connemara.

There is a lunch break at Kylemore Abbey and Gardens, a nineteenth-century castle now owned by the Benedictine nuns who run an excellent pottery, gift shop and restaurant here. Letterfrack is one of Ireland’s major national parks. The colourful town of Clifden has been one of Irelands leading holiday resorts for generations. It is an excellent touring centre beloved by the walker, the biker, the hiker or the fisherman. It was here too, at Derrygimlagh Bog, near Clifden that aviation history was made when Alcock and Brown crash landed after their historic transatlantic flight in 1919.

Back at Maam Cross again and the road turns southwards now through the Screeb, Costello and Rossaveal. Rossaveal is the departure point for ferryboats to the Aran Islands and is also a major fishing port. We are now in the Gaeltacht or Irish speaking area of Connemara where Gaeilge or Irish is still the everyday spoken language of a bilingual people.

Our tour of Connemara heads homewards towards Galway City now, along the shores of Galway bay, through the Gaeltacht villages of Inverin and Spiddal and looking out across the blue waters of the Atlantic at the unique limestone of the Burren and the hills of Clare.

After your tour of Connemara you will be transferred back to Galway Station. Upon arriving at Galway Station please present your Railtours Ireland ticket and travel pack at the ticket barrier and you will be directed to your reserved seats on the train, where your host will be waiting for you.

Depart Galway for Dublin Heuston Station at 19:20hrs. Returning to Dublin Heuston at 21:45hrs.

Depending on your day of departure, tours on Day 4 and Day 5 may be reversed.

The Giants Causeway

Check-in is 20 minutes prior to the train Departure Time - look for our hosts in the yellow jackets!

Check-in is located at the Railtours kiosk in the main concourse aread of Connolly Station, where our representative will be waiting for you in their bright yellow jacket!

Check in for 06:50 Departure from Connolly Train Station.

Arrive into Belfast Central Station at 09:08, where we will be met by our tour coach to continue on our journey along the Causeway Coastal Route, along Northern Ireland’s Antrim Coast. Upon arrival, guests can see one of Belfast’s most well-known landmark, the two Harland & Wolfe Cranes which are nicknamed Samson and Goliath.

Leaving Belfast we take the coast road north from here. We continue on passing the coastal villages of Glenariff, Cushendall and Cushendun. There are stunning views of the sea to the right and the mountains or the Glens of Antrim to the left. You can even glimpse the Scottish coast on a clear day.

We have a lovely lunch stop at the Fullerton Arms in Ballintoy for a delicious pub grub style lunch.

The highlight of the tour is definately a visit to Giant’s Causeway, Irelands only World Heritage Site. Spend some time climbing over the ancient stones, snapping some photos, and enjoying the myths and legends that surround this world famous attraction. We then re-board our luxury coach, and make our way along the coast, for one last short stop at the ancient ruins of Dunluce Castle.we head back to Belfast to return to Dublin.

Arriving at Dublin Connolly Station at 22:15hrs. Hotel in Dublin included.

Trustpilot Heading Image

My wife and I agree that our vacation with Vagabond exceeded every expectation.

I'm always asked for my "highlight" of the tour and I can only say it was Denise and the other 13 people on our comfortable bus.

The landscape was stunning, the pubs were jumping, hotels were great, and we had beautiful weather. I highly recommend Vagabond and we are already planning our next trip.

TripAdvisor Rating

My wife and I just completed our first tour of Southern Ireland with Vagabond Tours.

To say this met our every expectation would be a gross understatement! The Mercedes van was comfortable, easily accommodating all, was immaculate and our guide Jason was humorous, knowledgeable and a wonderful driver.

Vagabond gets 5 stars from us and we will travel with them again!

Review Image

The trip was quite simply perfect.

Our guide was Michael, who was local to the area we traveled, and the breadth and depth of his knowledge of the area was staggering, as was his warmth and kindness.

The hotels where we stayed were in perfect locations, and the small bus allowed us to get to places inaccessible to larger buses.

We are already beginning to plan our next Vagabond trip.

Do All Hotels Provide Separate Bathrooms?

Yes, all hotel rooms on Vagabond and Driftwood Tours of Ireland are ensuite.

Expect your own separate bathroom with toilet, sink and shower and/or bath.

Can I Access My Bag While On Tour?

It's difficult to access your main luggage or suitcase while on tour. Luggage is securely packed in our tour vehicles. As a result, it's not easy for your driver guide to access individual items of baggage during the day.

However, you can easily access your luggage at each hotel. So that you have your travel essentials close at hand, we recommend bringing a daypack, or backpack, that you can keep beside you in the tour vehicle.
