Grand theft under their watch

In reference to my previous review regarding the grand theft that happened under their watch because of their failure to keep our property safe, they have further failed to completely own responsibility to this incident. I have been following up with the Rapid city police regarding the crime and the individual responsible has been apprehended and some of the properties recovered but I have not heard if Gate1travel is filing a complaint to make this individual pay for his crime. Totally unacceptable.

Reply from Gate 1 Travel

Dear Alex, We regret your loss. As Gate 1 is not listed as the owner of the property that was stolen, we cannot speak to the police regarding the loss. The hotel notified the police and all contact information and reports have been shared. We encourage you to file a claim with your insurance for this loss and to continue to communicate with the police who are investigating the incident.

Exceptional Customer Service

I had a great experience with customer service. Initially booked escorted trip to Ireland. Two other family members wanted to go on trip as well on different dates. So I would have to rebook my tickets to coordinate with other family’s dates. The wait times for customer service can be long, but they always call back. At first I had trouble getting the answers I needed. I didn’t want to cancel trip which involved steep fees. My brother-in-law called, got us on a 3 way call to Ivanna. Ivanna was very thorough and carefully researched the matter. She double-checked everything and made sure everything was changed properly and in order. Plus, it was very late in the day, and she worked until it was complete. She wouldn’t end the call until she was sure of everything. I am most appreciative to her and she was so respectful. Thank you. I only hope the actual trip goes as well.

Date of experience : 06 July 2022

Thank you for your positive comments regarding Ivanna. Your kind words have been shared. We can't wait to welcome you and your family on our tour.

We were on a Gate 1 tour from June 26…

We were on a Gate 1 tour from June 26 thru July 3.. It was the Classic Tour of Ireland…Our tour director was Cristianne. Our driver was John….Unfortunately I did not get her last name… Please make sure this review goes to her management team and to her…. Our holiday would have been half as fun and interesting if we did not have Cristianne…she is absolutely indispensable because of her knowledge of Ireland..her presence made the already beautiful places many more times interesting..we have never come across such a beautiful, pleasant, and friendly guide in our entire life. She explained everything beautifully and we came to know about various interesting things as guest in beautiful Ireland…even after returning home we are still Talking about Cristianne’s wonderful story telling which made our bus trip so fun and festive…she made us feel Like we were one of the Irish..we have never experienced such love and affection in a different country…she was so much more than a tour director it was like we were all,a big family…Cristianne gave us delicious treats….many surprises….that were not included…she is one beautiful young lady inside and outside..I fell in love with Ireland…and I could listen to Cristianne talk forever,,she is an absolutely romantic soul.. John our driver…made us feel safe while driving….made sure we got our luggage…very personable, kind and a wonderful personality… This is was our first Gate 1 tour…but definitely not our last. What a fantastic 1st experience we had with Gate 1 With much love, Barbara & Michael Bartlett Oviedo, Florida Please make sure Cristianne and John know how happy And fun they made our holiday..

Dear Barbara, Thank you for the 5-star review of your recent tour. You can be certain that your positive comments have been shared with Cristianne and John, along with out thanks for a Job Well Done. Look forward to welcoming you back, soon.

I'm really not sure about this company

I'm really not sure about this company. I have a trip to Jordan booked for September 2022, and have experienced nothing but problems so far. I made my initial reservation/deposit in April of 2021, but as I get closer to the actual departure date, warnings are appearing. Airfare was included: Gate 1 sent me many, many emails asking me to select flight arrangements, but....offered no flights. After finally getting in touch w/ customer service, flight options appeared on my reservation. The instructions re confirming acceptance stated that I either reply to the email or call them. I replied to the email with 'flights accepted'. I then made arrangements to get from my locale to their departure city, and back again. 4 hotels, 2 cross-country (US) flights. Only to receive a Gate 1 email stating that since I had not accepted offered flight arrangements, they were reducing my reservation to 'land-only'. I promptly got an updated invoice. Contacted their Customer Service, somewhat irate, and asked why they had canceled my air arrangements? Long story short, no satisfactory explanation. Cost to me? Several hundred dollars and many hours. But wait! Eager naive soul that I am....I actually tried to make my final payment tonight. $4,333. Their website is so funky it wouldn't process it. I really want to go on this trip. But....I think I should heed the warning signs.

Date of experience : 29 June 2022

Dear Ms. Wickham, Thank you for alerting us to the issues you are having confirming your flight selecting. Since May 22nd we have sent notifications to select flights. When you initially reserved this trip, it was too early to review flight options. Now that we are within a few months of your travel dates, flights are available for your consideration. I have requested a member of our service team to reach out to you, this may take up to 48 hours. You may also contact us at 215-572-7676 and press the option for immediate service. Our agents will be happy to go over the flight options available. We look forward to assisting you on welcoming you on your tour.

Beware Gate 1 Travel!

UPDATE: I had a manager reach out to resolve the issue. They said they would cancel the trip and issue a full refund. I check the mail and it's only HALF the amount. Where is my money?! Just when I thought about giving them another chance this is a sign to not to. I won't stop until I get my FULL refund. Do better Gate 1. I am extremely disappointed with Gate 1 travel. This is my first and last time booking with this company. I bought a Groupon that included flight and stay for Cartagena from Gate 1. At the time of booking there were so many additional fees that they were trying to up sale me on. Eventually I was able to get exactly what I paid for. However, today I get an email from JetBlue saying my flight has been canceled. They instructed me to reach out to Gate 1 travel. So I reached out to Gate 1 and they told me my only options were a credit towards another trip or to pay $500 PER PERSON to be switched to another flight!!! What?! This is an issue completely out of my control. As a company why do you feel this is acceptable and the only options? Why am I being penalized? I’m not getting my money back and possibly won’t be able to make this trip. I can not believe this is happening and Gate 1 is so lax about a solution. I am absolutely livid and so disappointed in how this “company” decides to handle their business and they have zero concern for the consumer once they have their money.

Date of experience : 26 June 2022

Dear Ms. Blocker, We regret your flights on Jet Blue to Cartagena were cancelled. We understand how upsetting this may be. As you can imagine we are seeing an unprecedented increase in last minute flight changes and limited options. Please understand that unfortunately, schedule changes are beyond our control as we don't own or operate the airlines. Because, we would like to assist I have requested a supervisor from our service team to reach out and discuss the options available to you further.

Bad post Customer Service

I had a spectacular trip to Tuscany, Italy. We were a group of 22 people. When we returned to the United States, 9 people from the travel group, including me, did not get our bags; the airlines don't know where the bags are and when we called Gate1 Travel we didn't get any collaboration either. Gate1 Travel has a commercial relationship with Lufthansa, why do they wash their hands so easily? Perhaps they do not appreciate their customers. I am very disappointed.

Date of experience : 21 June 2022

Dear Ms. Orozco, After a great trip to Italy, we can understand how upsetting it can be to land in the US only to find out your luggage was not on the flight with you. While Gate 1 contracts flights in conjunction with our packages, we are unable to assist with the investigative process being conducted by the airline to locate your luggage and forward it to you. We encourage you to continue working with the airline's customer service and lost luggage department, as they work on locating your luggage.

Lousy pre-trip services

This is my first and probably last trip on Gate 1 and I haven't even left yet! Horrible, Horrible, Horrible customer service! Email questions from April haven't been responded to yet! When you call, it can take hours to get through! People you talk to can't resolve even simple issues. Call backs in a week???

Dear Mr. Jones, As you can imagine as with many companies in the travel industry, we have been working very hard to bring our call center back to pre-pandemic levels. We do apologize for the wait times on hold. We have worked very hard to bring on additional staff to alleviate this. We have expanded our hours of operation recently to 7 days a week meet the needs of our customers. While I don't know the specifics your inquiries I would ask you contact us again so we may assist.

Gate1 - Fraudulant Travel Agent

We recently travelled back from Antalya, where we had luggage booked for both the inbound and outbound confirmed by Gate1. Freebird refused to allow our luggage as their system did not show the booked luggage. We requested Gate 1 assistance via their contact page, where our request was automatically closed as Freebird is a budget airline with whom they refuse to negotiate.

We are sorry to hear of the issues you experienced with the flights you purchased however it does not appear that you purchased your tickets through our company. We are Gate 1 Travel, a U.S. based tour operator. As we do not typically book flights only or round-trip flights originating outside of the U.S. , it seems you may have booked through gate1 which is a European consolidator whom we have no association with.

I agree with other people on this site…

I agree with other people on this site about the customer service. I have been on one other trip with Gate 1 and it was great and the customer service was great. I booked a tour in 2018 that we still have not been able to take. It has been cancelled by Gate 1 THREE TIMES. So here we are in 2022, was scheduled to fly out this morning and lo and behold Gate 1 called at 1pm yesterday telling me that my trip was yet again cancelled. No empathy, no solutions, no "I'm Sorry", nothing. I have had to scramble 3 times to reschedule airline flights for 5 people. I have spent hours on the phone with airlines(literally hours), and here we are, years later and still have not taken the trip. It's almost comical. As an advisory, NEVER assume that a Gate 1 trip will actually be a go, and don't have any expectations for their customer service. But the actual trip(once you get there) is very good. It's the company itself that sucks. Do not let the response fool you. This is a company that has cancelled on me at the last minute 3 TIMES for the same trip that I booked in 2018!!!!, each time I had already purchased airline tickets and have spent countless hours on the phone trying to rectify the situation. I want to add that the worst part of the situation is that never once have they apologized, acted like they cared at all and have NEVER tried to help me book another trip or work with me in ANY way. I would steer clear of this company and many like it, because no matter if you cancel or they cancel they will do everything in their power to keep your money and make it as difficult as possible to get it back and their customer "no" service is rude and unhelpful. Go to a smaller company or just do everything yourself is my only advice. These people are just too far removed from being human.

Date of experience : 20 June 2022

Dear Ms. Evans, We regret your anticipated trip for was cancelled, we understand how disappointing this may have been. Unfortunately, due to the unforeseen, political unrest in Ecuador and for the safety of our passengers we suspended your tour. This situation was beyond our control and not something we would have wanted to do, but we could not deliver the tour. A full refund for you and will be processed shortly.

Gate 1 Travel to Morocco (May 21-28, 2022)

The POSITIVES - This is our 8th tour with Gate 1 Travel (8 Day Essential Morocco, May 21-28, 2022. Like all our previous tours with Gate 1 Travel, our expectations were met. Our Tour Manager Mohamed, the bus driver Fetah and tour assistant Aziz were all exceptional and helpful. Local tour guides at Fez and Marrakech were very knowledgeble and informative during our optonal tour activities. Hotels in Rabat, Fez, Marrakech and Casablanca were all centrally located enabling you to do further site seeing in your free time after you had arrived in your hotels. The NEGATIVES: 1) On our 2nd full day at our hotels in Barcelo Fez Medina and Novotel Marrakech respectively, housekeeping forgot to give us fresh supply of towels. We both have to call housekeeping and the desk to remind them that towels were not issued at all. 2) On our last breakfast day at Novotel Marrakech, the staff were not at all wearing mask. The worst is that one of the staff delivering baked items were not using a tong to transfer said baked items from his cart to the tray on the table but using his bare hands to do it. VERY UNSANITARY especially when this pandemic is still around us. 3) We had traveled with Gate 1 for the longest time and my wife and I had always been assigned seats together (an aisle and middle seats or window and middle seats at times) but not separately seating on middle sites on different rows. Talking to our fellow Gate 1 Travel passengers departing from JFK on the same flight (AT-201 Royal Air Maroc), a number of couples traveling together too were all separated and assigned middle seats. Why is it like this, is Royal Air Maroc trying to make money from seat change fees if the husband and wife travelers would like to be seated together. Luckily for us on departure day for JFK, we were able to seat together as the return flight (AT-200) was not fully booked at all. Thanks to the RAM agent at Casablanca who granted our request to be seated together.

Dear Dan, Thank you for the constructive feedback on your most recent tour. As a frequent traveler with us, you know we take the comments from our customers very seriously. Your feedback on your hotels and flights is well taken and will be shared with our internal teams. We are glad the seats on your flight were resolved with the airline representatives. We look forward to welcoming you on future tours and exceeding all expecations.

Cannot get any help with reservation…

Cannot get any help with reservation 2074195. It's an easy fix but no one will step up and change my flight reservation. Instead they want me to have a 20 hour travel day when others in my group have a direct 10 hr flight. It's ridiculous how callous and indifferent this company is. Worst customer service in HISTORY. Travelers beware.

Date of experience : 16 June 2022

Dear Russell, We are sorry you have had such difficulties with your flights, as you can imagine airline and flight options are limited as we come out of the pandemic. We note a member of our service team is working with you and offering available flight options to try to mirror the flights of your travelling companions. We will continue to work to provide the best flight options available.

Hi travelers

Hi travelers. We did a nice Peruvian 12 days kaleidoscope trip. So happened that at Orlando airport in USA our baggage was delayed and two days were without our comfortable belongings. Our tour manager Mauricio Gomez coped perfectly with the problem and our baggage caught up with us in Cusco after 50 hours delay. Dear Mauricio, will you take our deep gratitude and respect for your care of tourist needs and problem. Mauricio treat tourists as a family, we used to hear from him Coca-Cola and answer Inca-Cola. Gate 1 performed all points of the trip. Definitely we will do other trip with Gate 1. Yuri and Luda, Russian Canadience may 2022

Date of experience : 12 June 2022

Dear Yuri, Thank you for the wonderful review and your kind words for our Tour Manager Mauricio. Please be assured your comments will be shared with him. So glad your baggage caught up to you. We look forward to welcoming you on another tour soon!

Horrible travel company

Horrible travel company. Booked a trip with cancel for any reason insurance. Attempted to cancel 4 mos in advance due to health reasons and took 20 hrs on the phone, completing a application thru an entirely different company, and receiving only 50% of my paid funds. Have attempted to contact customer service by phone and email over 20 times and never received a call back. NEVER AGAIN. There are much better options available

Date of experience : 03 June 2022

Dear Bradley, We regret any misunderstanding regarding the travel protection plan offered and the Cancel For Any Reason Waiver (CFAR) benefit included. This benefit allows for cancellation up to 72 hours before your scheduled departure for any reason which would not be covered under travel protection. Information regarding this coverage is on our website, https://www.gate1travel.com/insurance. Bookings may be cancelled by phone or may also be submitted via the contact us page on our website. We have built our 40 year reputation on being fair and transparent. Please reach out to us via our contact us page so we may review the particulars of your booking.

I recently completed my 4th trip with Gate 1 - this time to Guatemala/Tikal. It was an amazing trip as were all my others with Gate 1. Wonderful hotels, top notch tour guide and bus driver and another great group of travelers. I have my 5th trip booked to Thailand in March 2023 and cannot wait!

Date of experience : 02 June 2022

Dear Karen, Thank you for taking the time to give share such a wonderful review. We will share with our team in Guatemala along with our thanks for a "Job Well Done". We can't wait to welcome you back in March of next year.

One good experience, one lousy experience.

I went on a Gate1 tour last year to the Baltic countries and it was a good experience, however, I have another tour scheduled for next month going to Kenya and Tanzania and I have a very bad feeling about this trip because the customer support has been non-existent. I’ve tried calling and get recorded messages to try tomorrow (and it’s 9am), or hold time is over 2 hours and then get disconnected. They have a Contact Us service on their web site which I have tried to use 4 times and no one replies. (You do get an acknowledgment of your e-mail message but no follow up.) Tanzania has a Yellow Fever vaccine requirement and I have had two doctors tell me not to get this shot because of my age. They filled out the International Vaccine card and signed it, but attached a note saying I should not get the shot. No one at Gate1 can tell me if that’s okay or I will get turned away at the border. So here I sit wondering if I am going to spend $10K on a trip and travel 2 days to get there only to get stuck at the Kenya border. When, by luck, a Gate1 agent called to tell my flight had been cancelled and they needed to schedule a new flight I was able to ask my questions, but got no answers, just an e-mail address for the Tanzania consulate. This is supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, but so far it’s just left me feeling anxious.

We have asked a member of our service team to reach out directly to you. Now Gate 1 responds to my poor review with we are giving you a refund, (the credit toward future travel ) is for $3400 I paid 5700 . What a rip off , and I STILL can’t get anyone on the telephone.

The fact the Eagles Nest symbolizes Evil

The fact the Eagles Nest symbolizes what EVIL Hitler did and what it represents. People do NOT go to the Eagles Nest thinking/knowing the profit goes to charity. But wanting to admire where Hitler lived and did. That’s what Eagles Nest represent. Austrians are still to this day shame that Hitler was born there, as Germans are still in denial about what the Nazis did and how so many people turned their backs on NOT only the Jews, but Educators, Homosexuals, Artist, and so many more. With so much Racist Hate and Violence now days and with ALL that’s going on in America. I think you need to be more aware how it looks. In all my years of Travel, I’ve never met anybody wanting to see the Eagles Nest but wanted to see AUSCHWITZ- BIRKENAU. I’m not into politics but seems like when Madison Cawthorn posted a pic about seeing the Eagles Nest and being PROUD of The FUHRER, it shows how only NAZI Sympathizers, WHITE Supremist, and RACIST people would want to see the Eagles Nest. I’ve been on several tours with Gate 1 (also with many other Major Tour Companies) and most of the people are the tours were White (80%) with Asians (15%) Hispanics (3%) Blacks (1-3%) Ingenious Americans (LESS than 1%). Knowing what kind of people are on these tours makes me FEEL VERY UNCOMFORTABLE thinking that you are ONLY catering to White People and their WANTS. I’m Asian. My Adopted Parents were White, White Siblings, White Community, ALL White Schools except ME within 30 Miles. Having the (White) Education also have taught me what is NOT in the Text Books and HOW White People think. And with you guys having the Eagles Nest as part of your tours tells who you want to please and what kind of people will be going on your tours now.

Left @the...Gate 1 Travel

Gate 1 Travel. Leaving passengers stranded in Lisbon Portugal with no transfer back to airport that our booking person Lori Johansson didn't include when already on our reservation request...so now we are left you figure it out. GATE 1 TRAVEL GROUP @Gate 1 Travel doesn't offer any thing or her than a hollow apology. The below hollow apology is too little too late. If you REALLY were sorry you would simply fix it!

Date of experience : 02 May 2022

We regret what has transpired. While we don't have all the details surrounding your booking, we take complaints very seriously, so we may address and improve wherever needed. Please save your receipts for your transfer to the airport and submit to us via our contact us page at the end of your trip. We hope you enjoy your tour.

Peru - Machu Picchu Tour AAA+ - Americo Romainville Tour Manager

I wanted to make sure this review of Gate1 and specifically our Travel Manager for the tour, Americo Romainville from Cusco, Peru. I just got back from our Machu Picchu / sacred Valley and Puno trip. Our travel manager was amazing. He was kind, very knowledgeable of Incan history and treated the group of 20 like family. During our stay he had to navigate and think quickly on his feet as a result of the Farmer strikes. He is a complete winner and regardless of anything that was thrown at him mad our trip remarkable. Thank you Gate 1 and specifically Americo Romainville.

Date of experience : 26 April 2022

Dear Ms. Howard, Thank you for the 5-star review, and for your wonderful comments about your tour manager, Americo. You kind comments will be passed on to him along with our thanks for a "Job Well Done", Look forward to welcoming you on many future trips with us.

Gate 1 Discovery 15 Days Moroccan Allure

I have been travelling with Gate 1 since 2013 and so far this is the best trip i ever had. This time i was travelling with my husband, 4 classmates and we're all asians in our mid 70's . Thanks to Zouhar our tour manager, the trip was full of memories, fun, smooth and no complaints of arthritis pain from anyone. Zouhar give us an in depth description of beautiful Morocco,it's history, culture, food and friendly hospitable people esp. his tribe ,the Berbers. One incident i can give credit Zouhair for is his problem solving skill. I was not feeling well on our 11th day in Marakesh so i ask my husband to knock on his hotel room . In an instant he was in our room so i ask him to find me a technician to do a covid test as i can not take chances for inspite of my covid booster shots and previous negative tests we were roaming around without mask and the places we went to were crowded and maskless. Within minutes an ER doctor arrive in our room, did the test(thank God } the result was negative. My temp. is ok, but my blood pressure was too high, so he advise me to just rest and stay hydrated. We are all retired nurses except my husband so we are ready for emergencies, but not when the patient is a love one. I took my blood pressure pill and decided to stay in my room while the group went to Querika valley for the optional tour, and Zouhair did a video of the tour for me. We are now back in the U.S to difft. states and one from Canada but we can not stop talking about this memorable tour. Thanks Zouhair, for a job well done and Gate 1 for making me see the best of the world for less.

Dear Nilda, Thank you for sharing the wonderful 5-star review and your kind words regarding your tour manager Zouhar. We are sharing it with him along with our thanks for a job well done! We are glad you're feeling better and can't wait to welcome you back on another tour.

Scotland/Ireland 16 day excursion

I just finished the Scotland/Ireland 16 day excursion with a Tour guide named Ian and our coach driver named Robbie. They were both FANTASTICO! The 42 travelers were also wonderful. The sites in Scotland and Ireland were magical. The hotels were all very nice with breakfast and half our dinners included. The food was good. I would highly recommend Gate1 and plan to take another tour. Gate1 also needs to give those two wonderful men raises! They certainly made the trip amazing! Humor, history, intelligence, and much fun to entertain such a large group for 16 days! Great job Men!

Tour guide can make or break a vacation.

Hawai'i 9-day tour 02/14/2024 thru 02/21/204 was busy and organized perfectly. Tours were organized and efficient. The preset hotels Queen Kapiolani and King Kamehameha were clean and well maintained. Due to the Lahaina devastation, which was hard to view, our hotel upgrade was amazing and impressive on Maui. Charles "Kaleo" Degala, the singing tour guide, made the trip. His love of his home, knowledge of the islands and respect for the culture of Aloha made you feel as if you were family not just a guest. Guides like him are a rare gift for a traveler.

RUDE service

This company has absolutely the most rude customer service. I'm a travel agent, asking basic clarifying questions regarding airfare and prices, and I was yelled out and treated very rudely two days in a row. They must hate their jobs. Unbelievable. Do not use this company! So many other professional travel companies to use!

Not worth it!

My husband and I have taken many trips with Gate 1 but something with the company has changed and I do not recommend travelling with them now. We travelled on their Japan, Then and Now Discovery trip in March and there were so many problems–some with the itinerary and some with the Tour Manager. Many of the activities were unnecessary or badly timed. I never got to see the “NOW” in Tokyo or any other city. Plenty of “Then” as we constantly travelled outside the cities to see gardens that weren’t blooming or another shrine that was never explained why it was important. The food on the trip was terrible, whether it was a group dinner or a food court in a train station. Some of the hotel rooms were so small there was no room to open a suitcase. It was a Discovery trip but nothing was special about it. It was a lot of money for what we got and we will not with travel with Gate 1 again.

We've had our guide yell at us and…

We've had our guide yell at us and other guests for little things like beings 4 minutes late one time over several days of being on time as expected, sitting somewhere other than the "assigned seating" even when there were vacant spaces, and for "just standing there" when out on a group outing (I guess we were supposed to interact more when he was watching us?). Our guide appears to be a tired and lonely old man that may need this position to support himself, as he wears the same outfit for the entire week so far & has no luggage. He rambles endlessly the entire duration of the ride in the tour bus about politics and religion with occasional spurts of local scenery, too late to get a photo of the attraction. I'd consider another Gate 1 travel but only after being able to review the ambassador of the trip. As for this trip, Serge was an absolute failure!

After reading all the negative reviews I decide to not go ahead and confirm the Baltic trip I had hoped to do with Gate 1 Travel. No way do I want to get stuck someplace with no help from the tour company. Glad I decided to read reviews before clicking the "Book" button.

Essential Portugal and Spain

Our experience was terrific! We were greeted at the airport by the tour manager Alex and taken to the hotel. Everything was so organized with time between tours for lunch or shopping. The hotels were nice too. We felt safe and cared for at all times. The tour guides were fantastic in each city giving us plenty of history without being boring. The bus driver Marco was excellent making sure our things were secured at all time. We will definitely use this tour company again.

Poor customer service leading to loss of ticket value

No possible to reach the travel agents on phone. Hence, communication to the Gate1 travel agents is possible via emails only. By 3pm UK time on 18 Feb, I confirmed my request to change my flight, from 19Feb at 1:45am to another day. But no response has been received, although my response was within 30-40min since the agent's reply time.. I appreciate this was on Sunday, but a clear statement on working hours and limitation from the beginning would be helpful. It seems the value of the ticket is lost which is very unpleasant. This could be easily avoided if there was an opportunity to call to agree the change and pay the diff in tariff.

Travel Protection is a scam, thru Gate 1.…

Booked Christmas market trip for early Dec. Bought ‘Travel Protection’ that Gate 1 promotes. My travel partner needed a heart operation. Had to cancel trip. We’ve waited two months after providing info requested with letter from surgeon. Today they say coverage denied because she had defib prior. Of course the Protection was stated as covering pre-existing conditions!!!!!! Total rip-off. Deceptive scam artists. VERY disgusted!!!

Very disappointed with Gate 1

Very disappointed with Gate 1. We’re scheduled to tour Egypt in November. However, due to the the conflict that’s happening now with Israel in Palastine/Gaza and the West Bank, we are justifiably concerned about our safety. Our trip is fully paid, but we had humbly requested to reschedule for a later date to travel (Not asking for a refund) just to reschedule. Unfortunately for us Gate1 outright denied our request disregarding our concerns. The Arch insurance that’s offered through Gate1 essentially only covers Gate1.

Never had a problem

I was very surprised to see all the negative feedback. It is true that the Tour Manager makes all the difference on these kind of tours and ours have always been exceptional. We have done Italy, Spain, and SE Asia and have loved everyone of them. We are not old and feeble so maybe that has something to do with it because Gate1 does make sure you see everything on the itinerary and you get your monies worth, which what we like. Our last tour manager was Tim for the SE Asia trip and she was amazing, in fact we are still in touch because we have become friends. From our view they keep getting better and better and we would recommend Gate1 highly. PS ask for TIM if you go to SE Asia won't be disappointed.

Gate 1 great but their trip insurance provider is worthless

Great company with well-organized tours but the insurance company they route all Travel Insurance through—Arch Insurance—has terrible reviews and does everything to avoid paying claims. I had a trip scheduled to Mexico in March 2024–and paid for. I had to cancel my Gate 1 trip because I was hospitalized for 11 days after I flew a long airplane flight from Ireland. At the time I booked the Gate 1 trip I was well. I suffered from acute pulmonary embolisms from the long flight. Arch insurance only paid out $300 on my well documented claim. I am a retired lawyer and know how to fill out and document claims. Their denial was flagrant. Getting only $300 back made it a complete waste of time to file the claim. If 11 days with acute pulmonary embolisms preventing me from future plane trips is not justification, what is? Never ever accept Arch. Find another provider.

Best trip ever!

I’ve traveled quite a bit and this trip to Costa Rica with Gate1 has been so far the best! This is the first time I book with them. It is very well organized, Gerardo, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun to travel with. The stay in Tortuguero was a great experience I will never forget. The Hot Springs was a beautiful place. The hotels that were chosen for us were terrific. The restaurants we were taken were fabulous. I will definitely book more trips with Gate1 without a doubt.

Thereza, our tour guide in Europe

Thereza, our tour guide on Gate One's trip from Mainz, Germany to Venice, Austria November 2023 was extremely accommodating. She was punctual while caring for specific needs of some 40 people for 10 days. She was very knowledgeable of the 5 countries that we toured and surprised us continually with gifts; nice hotels; meals and even music that we all sang along with as we traveled. She was fun and we'd recommend her highly for a trip with Gate One travels in your future!!!

9 Day Classic Japan

This 9 Day tour should actually be called 7 Day Classic Japan - Gate 1 needs to revise / review since 2 of the days you are actually in transit. Our tour guide Ichiro was phenomenal- kudos to him for his patience & handling the hiccups. Loved the country, it's people & the culture. Only disappoinmet was that Japan has so much to offer but the Gate1 itinerary focussed on way too many shrines/temples.

Gate1 are uncaring ……After doing around 8 tours with Gate1 I…

After doing around 8 tours with Gate1 I unfortunately had to cancel over a month before we were commencing our tour due to having to have emergency surgery. I thought Gate1 might be understanding and give us a full refund or at least credit towards another trip. They would only refund half our money and yes that was in the cancellation policy but having been such a long term repeat customer who had recommended them to many, I was under the delusion they may have some understanding of my situation and refund the full amount or at least give credit towards my next trip. I am six months post surgery now and have booked this years tour with another company. Will never book with Gate1 again.

Worst customer service

Worst customer service. I had booked a trip to Greece. I called them about my plane itinerary. No answer after being on hold for hours together. I emailed them, but no response whatsoever. I will never ever book anything with these people. Stay away from 'GATE1 TRAVEL". I 100% agree with majority negative reviews on this website. Please do yourself a favor and save yourself from tremendous future headache by not using this lousy travel company.

We do value our customers and make every effort to answer calls as quickly as possible. Please be assured we will respond to your email, you may also request a call back using the call back feature. Thank you for your understanding.

Gate 1 Travel is an amazing company

Gate 1 Travel is an amazing company. For starters, booking our trip to Ireland was easy, complete and priced reasonably. Next, our bus driver, Mark, a very kind gentleman, navigated all the twisty-turny roads like a master. And most important, our tour guide, Jill, was incredible! Her knowledge of all the towns, roads, pubs, Irish traditions, and folklore, was nonstop. Her sense of humor and the details of everything made a wonderful trip more memorable than we had expected. My only criticism is that not one of our rooms (in any of the hotels) had a view other than back parking lots, roofs of buildings, or high walls. Other than that, we highly recommend Gate 1 Travel.

Res# 2287535

Res# 2287535 There was no booking on a domestic flight for me from Istanbul to Gaziantep on 10/3. The tour guide, Serdad, insisted that I must pay at the counter of Turkish Air instead of paying from other sources. Later, I got cash reimbursement, but he should be more careful, which could easily be preventable. Serdad did not inform us how much to walk involved at each spot; his time management was poor, and for example, we had two hour lunch break In front of the Zeugma Museum on a hot day without AC. We could enter the museum earlier.

We took Gate 1 trip 16 Days Scotland…

We took Gate 1 trip 16 Days Scotland and Ireland on October 2023 and it was outstanding. The hotel were well located and the food delicious. But what made this tour so special was our Tour Director Patrick King, he was professional, knowledgeable and very organized with a great sense of humor. He went above and beyond as a Tour guide ( Gate 1 is so lucky to have him) Our Driver Kevin Nelson was so sweet, funny and an excellent driver, we always felt safe with him. Again, Thank you Gate 1 for giving us a wonderful experience in Scotland and Ireland. Luz Babilonia.

GATE1 customer service is TERRIBLE.

GATE1 customer service is TERRIBLE. Everyone should be aware that if you buy travel insurance on Gate1 site, they do not charge you for the coverage immediately, but place it as a charge on your final bill. So, for a while you are NOT insured, and if something goes wrong before your final charge, you lose your money.

First trip with Gate 1 and we were not…

First trip with Gate 1 and we were not disappointed! It lived up to everything our friends told us! From the ease of making the reservation to getting back home! We took a 12 day trip to Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia and loved every minute! Well organized, well paced and excellent hotels! Lots of inclusion, with centrally located hotels! Our tour manager, Ivona and driver Milan were the best! Ivona was so warm, kind and funny! What a hoot! An amazing ability to keep 40 people working harmoniously together for 12 days is a testament to her! The meals were wonderful, especially the farewell dinner! We have since booked two more Gate 1 trips since returning a week ago!

NOT WORTH THE DISCOUNT😩

Not worth the discount! Don’t make electronic payments from your checking account. Gate 1 duplicated a $500 payment for a total of $1,000 out of my checking account. I’ve emailed via their “contact us” format and received no reply. Talked with more than one Gate1 representative via telephone. It will take a minimum of 2 weeks for them to return the money (if they follow through). February 6, Gate 1’s reply to this review are the exact ways I’ve reached out. Not sure why using the “contact us” link for a third time, or telephoning the number for a third time will improve their response.

Unreliable and unreachable

We have gone on 4 trips and loved them all but we learned the that they own the flight until the flight. If the flight is cancelled, they simply cancel the flights for the entire trip and rebook at last minute rates without any credit for what has already been paid. While in transit, we were denied boarding on our second flight. I called both the US and European "emergency" numbers twice to indicate that we were unable to participate in the tour. NO ONE answered. They are refusing any compensation because I didn't cancel the tour. We couldn't get to the tour; they were unavailable for us to cancel; but they claim they are blameless.

Just returned from the 9 Day Classic Egypt Tour. EXCELLENT!! All the venues including the hotels and Nile cruise ship were top notch. The entire tour was very well organized with plenty of wonderful things to see. Our tour director Tarek was outstanding- very knowledgeable, organized, friendly and helpful, couldn’t have had a better guide. And the price was very affordable! Can’t recommend it highly enough. Definitely can’t wait for our next Gate 1 tour!

Did not honor confirmed travel.

I completely paid for my trip and received a confirmation number. The next week, Gate 1 informed me that I owed over $1200 more for my trip. Obviously, Gate 1 does not honor their obligations. I have traveled with them in the past but will SERIOUSLY think twice or thrice before I book another trip with them.

VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE

Booked a tour online but we wanted to speak with someone - not just click buttons on a computer. This was all too hard for gate1 consultants who were tardy at responding to emails. Whilst waiting for a response about how to make the payment (because it was in USD), our booking fell over (even though we'd emailed the consultant to ask her to hold the booking because we were in the Northern Territory outback without mobile range for 2 days) and then the tour was booked out. We'd already booked our fares from Australia. The consultant called Nicole was most unhelpful throughout the process and is totally unsuited to that type of job. I'd never look at any of their tours because I see the reviews are very negative and I can see why. They need to pull their socks up before they go broke......

Three weeks before we were scheduled to depart for Israel (January 11, 2023), I suffered a heart attack. Gate1 reimbursed me 10 cents on the dollar. My wife and I were out more than $4,000. No reasonable reimbursement, no empathy, nothing. The group I was to travel with had taken multiple tours with Gate!. Never again. They have all vowed share my story with any traveler they meet. I will seek out every possible forum to share with as many people I can warn away from this dreadful, insensitive company. Thanks for nothing

I have taken several trips with them in the past but they are awful now. Have tried several times to use a credit from a cancellation during Covid but their customer service managers put you on never-ending hold and then either book the wrong flights or come back to tell you that they can’t do it. Originally told I could book by December 31, 2023 in order to use credit and now told I have to finish vacation by then. They are highly unreliable and terrible to use now.

He took extraordinary pleasure in arranging my birthday celebration with balloon and cake.

Itineary Was Too Jam Packed

Although we saw some fabulous sites we did have some issues with our 17 day trip to Egypt and Jordan. Our first guide was wonderful and had an unbelievable storehouse of knowledge, but perhaps too much as he frequently talked so long at a site that we had almost no time to explore on our own. Secondly we had 3 intermal flights that we had to get up at 4 am to catch and therefore were tired all that day. Our second tour guide did not carry a flag and it was very difficult to keep track of him when we were in large crowds. Finally we had an issue with lost luggage where our guide made us all wait for over 2 hours even though our hotel was only 10 minutes away.

More training for tour guides

Gate 1 travel company has been great to work with. This time what was disappointing was the un- professional attitude of our tour guide, Desire, in the 11 day S Africa tour. She seemed to take no responsibility as part of the company, more like it was ‘their’ company. It was very surprising that she also made up nicknames for the male guests inappropriately, which can be very taboo according to some cultures. Thank goodness, the countries ,and the wildlife we visited did not disappoint.

Went on a tour of Yelliwstone

Went on a tour of Yelliwstone. We were given very little time at each stop. Spent most of the day on the bus. The driver was not allowed to stop on the road if we saw an animal, which I totally understand, however there was a huge bison lying down in near the parking lot after we boarded the bus and he refused to give us two minutes so we could get a nice picture from the bus window. I was so disappointed. The tour driver said we were behind schedule. What difference would two more minutes have made and we could have had an excellent picture.

London and Paris Independent Tour

This was an independent tour so our group liked that we can plan our own activities/tours. Glad that our Louvre tour got canceled because it was nice to be on our own pace. Gate 1 needs to improve on finding better hotel locations. We were so far away from the center of everything in London and Paris! The only plus in Paris was the metro was right there. For the amount we paid I think we could’ve gotten better hotel accommodations. (We had to switch rooms in Paris because the AC wasn’t working!) The airport transfer pickups were on time and smooth.

The absolute worst travel "rip-off"…

The absolute worst travel "rip-off" travel agency of the 21st century! Overpriced, they require you to leave a deposit that is non-refundable without exception, requiring you to rebook with them or forfeit your deposit. Read the fine print. There's much better travel experience out there.

Not really "making it right"

No follow up as promised. I gave a bad review of Gate 1 last week due to the bad customer service (and significant financial loss) from a recent Gate 1 trip. They immediately responded that they were sorry to hear this and would pass my information on to customer service so they could make it right. It's a week later and I have heard absolutely nothing. It's obviously just an automated response to make people think they are taking care of it, when in fact, they are blowing their customer off. Never thought I'd say this, but stay clear of Gate 1. I checked with my agent and the last communication she had was 6 days ago when the Gate 1 agent said I would get my $600 deposit back and "only" a 90% cancellation fee instead of 100%. Not really "making it right" in my mind, but I'm done. We will take our final tour with Gate 1 this Aug. (our 8th) as it is already booked. They have lost my loyalty and trust.

Hello, Thank you for your additional feedback. We show that a member of our customer service team has been in touch with your travel agent, Joellen. Please reach out to her for an update on this matter.

Gate 1 Fail

Trip to India departing in less than four weeks. Received notification of changed flight. I booked a specific nonstop flight departing from a different city than where I live for the convenience of a nonstop flight. Since a nonstop flight was no longer available, requested a change of departure city from where I live. Of course that requires an additional payment. So when Gate 1 make an unrequested change: too bad so sad. When I request a change: too bad pay more. I paid for a nonstop flight that I am not receiving. You would think that Gate 1 and the airlines would do anything possible to accommodate the customer without additional charges. Lesson learned: Do not book flights thru Gate 1. This is the second trip where Gate 1 tried to levy additional charges for changes made by the airlines. Not customer friendly.

Our Italy tour of September 6 to 17

Our Italy tour of September 6 to 17, 2022 was superb due to our awesome travel director, Myriam!! She has a great sense of humor and inclusivity. No one felt left out nor ignored. Our tourmates bonded well and thus, everyone had a sweet time learning about each other. Thank you, Myriam. Noemi and Dan

Waste of what used to be a good company

We've been on several Gate One tours, but after this fiasco with flights and hotel stays in Equador we will not be using them again. Flight got permanently canceled on the return making us lose a whole day of the contracted 4 night trip. Gate One did zero.... nothing.... to resolve the issue. They were kind enough to offer another flight at an additional $3600. Sorry the company is hurting that bad were they can't fix the problem. We wl not be using Gate One again and I suggest you save yourself the headache.

“Many trips with Gate 1”

We have been to Spain/Portugal, Peru, Uganda, Morocco with Gate 1. Although there are some annoying issues with Gate 1, they provide a good tour at a reasonable price. You get to eat at local restaurants and they don't waste too much money on high end hotels. Hotels are clean. Restaurants are great. We have gotten to see a lot of amazing things with Gate 1. We also did a Dublin trip that was independent (just hotel and flights). That was our last trip before Covid. We have had two cancellations due to Covid in 2020 and 2021 and Gate 1 handled both of them appropriately. Next trip with them is Easter Island!

“Avoid if possible”

Gate 1 is unreachable for problems. I called the US and Spain "emergency" numbers twice each because we were unable to board our flight and needed to cancel the tour. No one answered any of the four calls. They then denied that they owed us any compensation for the tour because we failed to cancel it. They fail to support their customers, which is unfortunate because their in-country staff are hard-working and knowledgeable. This is in response to Gate 1 indicating that they were going to "reach out to me:": It has been over 4 months since this dreadful experience, and they have not contacted me. In fact, they have actively avoided my repeated attempts at contacting them about this debacle. Their automated response to my posting on this site and the TOTAL lack of follow-through just reinforce my negative experience with the Gate 1 home office.

Gate 1 Travel Review: Are Their Organized Tours Worth It?

Gate 1 Travel Review: Are Their Organized Tours Worth It?

Have you ever wanted to take a trip where everything is planned for you? I was in the same boat when I found Gate 1 Travel, which offers escorted coach tours all over the world. If you're wondering whether this is the route for you, I did all the work to give you the inside scoop!

gate one travel reviews complaints

One of the best parts of traveling is getting to decide where you want to go and what you want to see. However, it can also be the most stressful part of traveling.

How do you make sure you see everything you want to see, get the right hotels, and eat at the right restaurants, all while staying on budget? One option I often think about to help alleviate that stress is to book a tour that covers all the nitty-gritty details!

When you're thinking about organized travel, you'll come across so many tours and guides that'll it'll hurt your brain.

One of those is Gate 1 Travel. So, the real question is does it beat out other options when booking tours?

I wanted to find out so that you'll have the essential info on its tours, prices, destinations, and more! This way you'll be making a decision with lots of valuable knowledge.

Gate 1 travel logo

What Is Gate 1 Travel?

If you're not a fan of traveling with strangers, my advice is to go with a travel agency or plan your own trip. Don't go with Gate 1 Travel or other travel groups. Plan and go discover on your own instead with Pilot!

That's because you will definitely be exploring with a group if you book with with Gate 1 Travel.

Numbers fluctuate, but if you're keen on staying in a smaller group, be sure to check out Gate 1's Small Group tours . Also known as Discovery Tours, there are no more than 22 travelers on these trips, so you won't have to worry about there being too many people with you.

‍ Discovery Tours also allow you to get up close and personal with the country you're visiting in a way that often isn't possible in larger, escorted tours.

How Large Are Gate 1 Travel Groups?

If you're not a fan of traveling with strangers, my advice is to go with a travel agency or plan your own trip. Don't go with Gate 1 Travel.

How Do I Book a Tour?

If you're interested in booking a tour with Gate 1 Travel, you'll first need to make an account.

You can head to the login page to do this. Once you've done that, you can start booking!

You'll select your tour region, followed by the country you want to visit and the tour that appeals most to you.

Choose your departure date, and decide whether you want flights included. You can then select those flights and any optional tours you may want to do during your trip.

What's Included in Gate 1 Travel Tours?

When booking a tour with Gate 1, you want to know what's included.

Something I liked to see is that every trip offers a "land only" and "air & land" price, so you can decide whether to have your flights included. Flights do only go to and from select cities, depending on your tour dates.

Escorted tours will include the following:

  • Accommodation for the nights of the tour
  • Hotel taxes and service charges
  • Transport between cities
  • Certain meals (what's included will be outlined in the tour details)
  • Sightseeing per the itinerary in an air-conditioned coach with a guide!

Not included is airfare for land-only trips, any visa-related fees, and optional extras you may decide to add to your tour.

Gate 1 Deals

Every traveler loves a good deal, and Gate 1 offers some great affordable vacations. It's actually one of the best bundle travel deal sites out there!

By heading to the company's Featured Specials page, you'll get to see Gate 1's flash deals, as well as any last-minute deals for upcoming departure dates. They also have a featured destination sale which will change from time to time.

To access the deals, you'll need to use the promo code listed on these pages, and then you're on your way to saving on your next trip!

From its website, you can also sign up to receive weekly deals via email. You never know what you'll get in your inbox!

How Do I Contact Gate 1 Travel Customer Service?

Whether you have a question or a complaint, it's never a bad idea to know how to contact customer service.

Gate 1 Travel is currently experiencing a high volume of inquiries, but you can still fill out a  form  via the website to send an online inquiry.

If you're traveling soon, you can get ahold of the team by phone. The company has 24-hour assistance line can be reached in the US by calling 215-572-7676.

Cancellation Policy

If you find you can no longer join your Gate 1 Travel tour, how can you cancel your trip?

Once you've made at least a partial payment on your trip, you have to submit a cancellation request in writing via the contact us page.

Cancellation fees will then be applied based on how much time remains before your trip and will be applied as a percentage of what has already been paid.

Customer Reviews

Overall, travelers seem to be satisfied with Gate 1's services and its tours.

Many of the complaints speak to packages booked with flights and how flight cancellations or changes have upheaved entire trips. Others have also mentioned the mismatch of travel credits promised versus ones they actually offer.

Other travelers have complained about Gate 1's customer service as being difficult to reach and not entirely helpful. It sounds like quite a few individuals had a tough time getting a full refund for their trip, even with travel insurance, when booking with them.

Whether it's that explanations can't be given, refunds are not fully issued, or travelers are sent in circles, it sounds like customer service is a hit or miss.

Other complaints have also touched on the itineraries being too packed to truly enjoy what you're seeing or to feel rested enough for them.

Gate one travel boat

Is Gate 1 Travel Worth It?

After all my reading, my advice is to proceed with caution. Here's why.

My first impression when I got onto the website is that this is mainly targeting an older audience, with their branding outdated to the 2000s. That's not a judging criteria, but just a red flag in my opinion.

While Gate 1 Travel offers a lot of packaged tours, the volume of travelers who have had their trips impacted by flights booked through Gate 1 is concerning.

Instead, I would avoid the flight risks by opting for land-only tours. If you go this route, Gate 1 does offer tours all over the world, so it's a good place to at least browse through when you're trying to make a decision.

They also offer other kind of tours like independent vacations, European river cruises, and customized international vacation packages, but it's honestly not for me. The price is way too expensive and I can frankly plan it myself.

They also seem to charge a bit more than the actual ticket for many attractions, which to me seems like a dealbreaker unless it is actually hard for me to get the travel reservations myself.

In Gate 1 Travel's benefit, they sure do have tons of locations. From Paris to Peru, From Ecuador to Budapest, their tour packages extend to many destinations around the world. They also offer discount travel packages there and here, so that's something to consider for all you deal-seekers.

Keep in mind that some comments were made about the itineraries being a bit packed. So, if you're more of a relaxed traveler, I would be very careful going with Gate 1 Travel.

That being said, if you want to do and see as much as humanly possibly, Gate 1 could be the tour company for you!

If you like the idea of booking a tour but still aren't convinced that Gate 1 Travel is right for you, make sure to also check out companies like EF and Intrepid !

Our Rating: 3.1/5

  • Tours all over the world
  • Small group options for more immersive experiences
  • Includes accommodation, and guided coach tours
  • Options for smaller group tours
  • Flight cancellations can result in trip cancellation
  • Poor customer service
  • Some feedback of packed schedules

Gate 1 Travel FAQs:

Is gate 1 travel still in business.

Yes, very much so. They've been operating for over 40 years and continue to maintain its operations despite its outdated website design.

Is Gate 1 Travel better than Trafalgar Tours?

They both offer the same comparable luxury comfort tours, so it's hard to say. I'd give Trafalgar the edge since they have more experience under their belt, but individual experiences will vary. Read our Trafalgar Tours Review for more detail!

This $30 wireless charger got rid of my bedside cable clutter

The Hicober 3-in-1 wireless charging station can turn into a phone stand or fold down into a smaller size for travel.

I’m not a huge fan of wireless chargers. They tend to be slower and bulkier than your typical wall chargers, plus they can’t charge things like my over-ear headphones or a laptop . That’s why I have a ton of USB-C cables and Anker wall chargers at my desk.

A bit of cable clutter does not bother me when I am working — I am a tech reporter, I usually need lots of cables and chargers to do my job. But my bedside is a different story. I’ve been using an Anker charger and two charging cables in my bedside outlet for years. It does the job well, but having two long cables next to my bed isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing thing in the world.

Enter: wireless charging for your bedside.

What is the Hicober 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station?

Hicober 3-in-1 wireless charging station.

Hicober 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station

The Hicober wireless charger is designed for Apple devices, with charging pads for your iPhone, Apple Watch and earbuds. It is largely made of plastic and rubber, but the phone charging pad is magnetized and keeps your phone from sliding out of place.

It delivers up to 10W of power for iPhone, 2.5W for an Apple Watch and 3W for a pair of compatible wireless earbuds. The charging pad has a USB-C port on the top that must be plugged into a wall charger to supply power.

select Minimize chaos on your next trip with these expert-approved accessories

How i use the hicober 3-in-1 wireless charging station, to charge three devices with one cable.

The main reason I wanted to try this charging station was to reduce the amount of cables near my bedside. This charging station turned three charging cables into one. If you’re like me and you like to have your phone, smartwatch and wireless earbuds by your bed, this charger seriously reduces cable clutter.

To travel with

There’s a good reason this charging station is one of the best travel accessories on Amazon — it is small, slim and compact. It can also fold in on itself, stacking like three little pancakes, making it compact enough to fit into your weekender bag or luggage .

gate one travel reviews complaints

You can also fold it in such a way that it makes a triangle, turning into a makeshift phone stand in a pinch (though I didn’t use this feature very much).

Things to note

Not for fast charging.

Wireless chargers typically don’t charge as fast as wall chargers, and the Hicober is no exception. The bottom of the charging station states plainly that it delivers up to 10W for phones, 2.5W for Apple Watch and 3W for earbuds. None of these are the maximum power delivery available to each device — the iPhone 15 for example can take up to 20W, so you could charge any of them faster with separate dedicated chargers. This slightly slower speed is not an issue for overnight bedside use, though.

The bottom line

This wireless charger is an exercise in minimalism: it gets rid of clutter from my bedside and in my travel bag. It won’t do you any good if you need to charge larger items like tablets , over-ear headphones or laptops, you’ll need a charging block for those devices. But outside of those exceptions, this is a low-cost charger that made my bedside space more comfortable.

No response, acommodation not confirmed

On 31 December booked a tour. Booking stated 6 nights hotel accomodation on request. Sent online form asking for confirmation. After the holidays, on 6 December received an email it would take 3-4 days to confirm. No further communication from gate1. Hotels still on request one day before final payment due. Have filled in on line form with no response. Have sent email to gate1 executives with no response Have sent request to "amend booking" asking for accomodation to be confirmed with no response. Assume it would be idiotic to pay final balance without knowing we have hotel rooms on the tour.

Reply from Gate 1 Travel

Dear Linda, We apologize for the delay in confirming your hotel accommodations. Confirming services has taken longer than when we were operating normally, and we truly regret any frustration this caused. It appears the issue has been remedied and resolved. Please feel free to reach out via our "contact us" page with any other questions. Look forward to having you on tour with us.

I have seen some negative reviews about Gate 1, and I noticed they were mostly related to flights. I never purchased flights from Gate 1 and have had excellent experience with company.

Date of experience : January 16, 2022

Dear Yan, We are glad you have only had excellent experiences with us. We strive to exceed the expectations of our customers. As you know Gate 1 Travel is a US based tour operator. There is a European consolidator who sells air tickets, with a similar name. We have no association with them. Again, thank you for the positive review, look forward to welcoming you on many future tours.

We have traveled extensively with Gate1…

We have traveled extensively with Gate1 and will continue to do so in the future. We were scheduled to go to Chile and Argentina in February 2022, but the trip was cancelled. We were given the option of a full refund, including our deposit, trip insurance costs, and the cost of the land portion (we booked our own airline tickets);or to receive a credit that would be good until December 2023. We decided on the refund. We have never had a bad experience on Gate 1 and found them responsive to our requests. Gate 1 is a company that you can trust and believe in.

Dear Jerry, Thank you for the 5 Star review and your loyalty. We look forward to having you on a tour in 2022.

I love Gate One and think it has the best price to value out there

I love Gate One and think it has the best price to value out there. My husband and I have been traveling with Gate One since 2015 with eight trips taken(all fabulous) and four in the works. We did have two cancelled because of COVID but were reimbursed fully. Just recently a back to back trip was canceled because there were not enough people signed up. A wonderful woman in Customerservice worked very hard to get us booked on the same two trips just two two weeks later. We were offered a full refund but we chose to be flexible and move our dates knowing that COVID may still rear it’s ugly head. We are not worried because we know the money can just be moved over to future trips. Every tour has had outstanding guides, great hotel selections, and excellent itineraries. Our luggage is taken care of and we received help with COVID testing while in Sicily and Malta. We have loved the Discovery Small Group tours but the two Classic tours were also great. We have met so many great travelers that we still keep up with. All insurance has limits which are spelled out upon purchase. I don’t always get mine through Gate One because we are older and want more medical coverage but these policies also have restrictions and limits to what you can recover. Just read the policy. So no complaints from us. We met a couple in Sicily that had been on 17 Gate One trips and still booking. Now that is a testimony. Jacque Bell Greenville, SC

Dear Jacque, Thank you for the 5-star review! After being in business for 40 years, we pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional travel experience for less and delivering great customer service. We are glad we have lived up to our promise. We can't wait to welcome you and your husband on a tour in the not-too-distant future.

BEWARE OF Gate 1's advertised "cancel for any reason"

I've happily traveled with Gate 1 many times in the past. NO MORE. I booked a March trip to Japan advertised as "cancel for any reason." To be extra safe, I added $800+ extra to purchase "cancel for any reason" travel insurance through Gate 1. Today, January 3, Japan is not allowing foreign visitors in. I worry that Covid will soon hit there and likely peak about the time we're scheduled to be there. Gate 1's advertisement of "cancel for any reason" is deceptive and appears to have fraudulent intent. They give NO REFUNDS of either deposit or total trip and insurance payments, with or without rational cause; just a credit toward future travel taken with them in the next two years. Traveler Beware of ever paying money to Gate1. You will never get it back no matter what was implied by advertised "Cancel for any reason."

Date of experience : January 04, 2022

Due to Covid we have added a Flexible Change Policy which will allow customers the opportunity to make one change up to 60 days prior to their departure. Customers also have the opportunity to purchase travel protection, as you indicate you have done, and when doing so Gate 1 will include our Cancel For Any Reason Benefit. The description of what is included in this benefit is included in your passenger agreement, the terms and conditions on our website as well as mentioned within multiple emails that are sent from the time of booking until departure. As for your Japan tour if you have not cancelled already, we continue to monitor events closely and if any changes are made we would contact you closer to your departure date.

Gate1- 'Fly and Drive' a real…

Gate1- 'Fly and Drive' a real disappointment. Hotel, flight, and auto rental - Milan, Italy October 2021. Returned home to find a $444.00 auto credit card charge . Several calls to Gate1 seeking help to reverse the charge. Gate1 will not stand up for you. Calls are transferred to their 'accounting office' for review. Calls are transferred there in the hope that you'll just give up in frustration..

Date of experience : January 01, 2022

Hi Robert, Please keep in mind that some services are not included with your Gate 1 car rental. That said, a representative from our Customer Relations department has reached out, via email twice since December 21st, requesting that you forward a copy of your Rental Agreement or the invoice / receipt the car rental company provided showing the charge in an effort to assist you further.

A made a reservation in May 2021 to…

A made a reservation in May 2021 to travel to Italy at the beginning of 2022. With the Covid situation in the US and in Italy, i tried to postpone my trip. They will not make any change. I would have to loose 90% of the land portion of my trip, and over $300 per airline ticket. The world is in a crisis with Covid, and Gate1 is only looking to get their most money from you. What a shame. Never will use them again

Date of experience : December 21, 2021

In regards to the airline penalties, Gate 1 has no control as they are strictly dictated by the airlines. Unfortunately, there is not enough information to review your booking so if you would like this matter reviewed further please submit a request via our Contact Us page.

Gate 1 - Making Life Hell During Covid for No Reason

Years ago, I had a wonderful tour with Gate 1 in Morocco. Earlier this year in July, there was a great deal including airfare and hotel with Gate 1. At the time, their most recent email about vaccination policy said that those who could be vaccinated must be vaccinated. The website where you signed up for the trip also didn't state anything throughout the registration process that said everyone must be vaccinated. I am all for being vaccinated, but I registered my 4 year old for this trip and no one contacted me and said it wasn't possible to travel. Now, we are approximately 2 months out from our trip and they are requiring everyone, no matter who they are, to be vaccinated. Obviously, he couldn't be vaccinated then and he is still not eligible due to age. The countries, the airlines, the hotel, the CDC, and airports have not banned a 4 year old from traveling. Only Gate 1 created this policy without informing customers. We aren't on a tour. We are using them for airfare and hotel. They need to update their waiver form so that customers can release them from liability for underage customers who are not on a "tour" and where it is impossible to be vaccinated. Otherwise, they are literally stealing money from customers. We accept the risk by booking and plan to follow all requirements. Plus, I've called for over a week and spent hours on the phone and they promise to call back and never do. So very disappointing.

It appears our office has responded to your feedback and were under the impression this matter has been resolved. If there is something further, we can assist you with please do not hesitate to reach out.

First trip with Gate 1. Excellent experience

My friend asked me to join her on a 14 day kaleidoscope tour to Costa Rica from October 20 to November 2, 2021. She had heard from a friend of hers about a pleasant travel experience with Gate 1. I contacted them in August and left my number for a return call as there was over an hour wait by phone. Approximately 3 hours later a very pleasant gentleman returned my call and answered all my questions. I did book the trip. THE TRIP: Best trip ever. I was met at the airport and transferred to my hotel. Front desk staff very accommodating. That evening we were contacted by phone from our tour manager, Gilbert, who explained when to have our luggage by our door, when breakfast would be and when and where to meet for the bus that was transporting us to our first location. Our tour manager couldn't have been better. He explained everything to us as we traveled....How bananas are harvested along with info on pineapples, rice, papaya etc. He knew about birds, animals, insects, trees, plants, cities and their history, churches, buildings, the history and politics (past and present) of his country. He was knowledgeable, pleasant, funny, thoughtful and kind. If he didn't know an answer to a question he found out and got back to you with the answer. Our bus driver Jose couldn't have been better at his job. How he got around those mountain curves was amazing. I can't say enough good things about our tour manager, the bus driver or Gate 1. The hotels ranged from really nice to great. The meals that were included were very good. I'll definitely do another Gate 1 tour. I just have to hope the next tour managers are as great as Gilbert was.

Gate 1 Travel has stolen deposits!!!

Gate 1 Travel has stolen all the deposits that are to payed back to customers due to cancelled trips during COVID and will not refund them!!! They will not ALLOW you to talk to a manager and they ignore all your emails. One time a manager did call me back and promised my refund but again, nothing was done. Gate 1 Travel used to be a good business but now they have turned into a business of theft!!!

Hi Dawn, We cannot locate a reservation under that name that has made a reservation, let alone traveled, in the last 5 years so unfortunately we cannot speak to your specific concern. It is the case that we do have penalties for cancellation which you can locate under our terms and conditions. They should have been reviewed along with the passenger agreement that was signed. Naturally we would like to help answer any questions you may have and review if there was an issue with the cancellation. We would encourage you to reach out using our Contact Us page and would ask that you provide the reservation number along with your concerns

We just joined a 10 days foliage tour…

We just joined a 10 days foliage tour from 10/1 to 10/10/21 and the tour was excellent. Both the tour guide Bob Konen & Mike the driver were excellent. When I came back, I filled in the questionnaire and forwarded it to my son to do the same thing, but he couldn't do it since it said it was completed my me. I called Gate 1 3 times this week requesting them to send another questionnaire to my son or to my e-mail address. They said they did send it but we never got it. I don't know why you make it so difficult for us to send you back the questionnaire?? Maida Cheung

I booked 3 trips with gate 1 for Turkey, S Africa and Spain. I was suppose to leave for Turkey on March 12, the same day as Trump closed the borders. I was worried about refunds and maybe because I knew I wanted to keep traveling I just used the refunds for credits in the future. That wasn't any problem. I can't say what the hotel, guides, etc will be like since I haven't been on a trip yet but I'm optimistic so far. My trip is in March to Kenya/Uganda and I'll write more after that time. My experience has been good so far so I'm giving them a 5.

I am extremely upset and disappointed. I asked a question about rebooking due to passport delay. My trip was canceled. Refunded $200 of almost $2,000.00. No one responded nor called me! I need answers!!!!

Hi Tyrene, we regret any confusion when you submitted your names into the Cancellation option of our Contact Us page. We will review any improvements that we can make to avoid this kind of issue from occurring in the future. We see that you have been in communication with our reservation service department and they will follow up with you once they have all pieces completed. Thank you for your patience.

Gate 1 is a scam

Gate 1 is a scam. They offer a discount if you pay using methods that are non-refundable such as ACH. They sell travel insurance literally called "cancel for any reason" and will find any reason not to honor it. Their hold times are >2 hours if you try to speak with them, and their website communication option does not work, unless you are booking and sending them a payment. The company is designed to intake money, and deliver as little as possible. After I had paid the flight was changed and would have taken much longer than originally planned and the rooms were continuously downgraded AFTER the payments were received. I tried to cancel before the 72 hour window several times but the > 2 hour hold times and broken website made it impossible. Their company is designed to keep your money, and deliver as little as possible.

After 40 years in business, we do our best to operate in a forthright manner. That being said, we understand your frustration regarding the long wait times. We continue to hire new agents as quickly as we can to help alleviate this issue but like many other businesses it is taking longer than we would like. While we already have agents training it may take some time until we get back to normal. We do see that you have been contacted by a manager and hope that your concerns have been addressed.

Terrible Customer Service

Just got off the phone with a customer service agent who acted as if it was my priviledge to deal with her as opposed to trying to be helpful and doing her job. My husband and I have travelled with gate 1 several times and booked a trip for my son and his partner so I think that as repeat customers we definitely should be treated as valued customers. Anyway this lady had zero answers for me. Was snotty and threatened to hand up on me as I was being condiscending. I'm think asking for an accurate itinerary is more than reasonable. As my husband and I are nearing retirement we are hoping to do more travelling but am not at all sure if Gate 1 will be our first choice any more. There are a lot of companies out there. In addition: every time I called them the wait time was well over an hour (actually closer to 2 hours) I left a message for a call back several times and today finally someone called. Lucky me I got someone with attitude

Recent experience with Gate 1 Travel

We used Gate 1 travel 6 times in the past and overall they were fairly good. Recently we had a somewhat unhappy experience with Gate 1. We reserved a trip to Mexico in May 2020. The airline was Aeromexico and it cancelled the flight in late April. Gate 1 cancelled the land trip at the end of March. Our initial deposit was through our VISA card which covered the airline cost and a small additional amount for the land tour. We made a mistake by paying the remaining balance by check due to the small additional discount. Aeromexico refused to reimburse us the ticket cost and only offered a voucher for future flight within 14 months. We informed Aeromexico that since they cancelled the flight they are required by law (department of transportation) to reimburse us the ticket cost. They told us that Gate 1 purchased the tickets for us so we have to get the ticket money from Gate 1. Gate 1 did something not very professional and possibly not legitimate. Gate 1 agreed to reimburse us the cost of the land trip. We thought it would pay back to our credit card company and deduct the airline cost from the initial deposit since Aeromexico wouldn't pay back the ticket cost. Instead Gate 1 fully reimbursed our entire initial deposit by credit card and then deducted the airline ticket cost from our remaining balance which we paid by check. By doing it this way we can no longer use our credit card company to settle the dispute with Gate 1. Gate 1 told us they will pay us back the ticket cost only if Aeromexico reimbursed them the ticket cost. Aeromexico then filed bankruptcy and we thought we have lost the ticket money. To our surprise Gate 1 sent us the ticket money last Tuesday and it took 18 months to get our money back. Our advice is not to pay the remaining balance by check. The saving is only 2% of the remaining balance since our credit card gives 3% discount for travel. We are confident that had we paid the entire amount by credit card then we would have got our ticket money back from Gate 1 much earlier.

Gate 1 Cancelled The Tour - Will Not Refund Me My Money

Gate 1 cancelled my trip to Europe 4 days before departure, supposedly because of the Netherlands Quarantine Restrictions, this was one of 4 places I was scheduled to tour. They emailed me and called me twice to ensure I knew of the cancellation which I thought was odd. I was told by both of the Representatives that I would receive 100% of my money back within 2 weeks. I immediately checked their website and saw there were other tours going to the same locations after they cancelled my tour (I was traveling alone). After 2 weeks I checked my travel portal to find out that I am only receiving the "Land Tour Fee" back (Which I have not received yet). That the $700 for the Flight and the $299 I paid for the Travel Insurance is not being refunded. After 3 different calls requesting a manager call me to explain why they are keeping $1000 of my cash, today I received a call from a very rude manager who wanted me to only listen and not ask any questions, he treated me like I was his wife, not a customer who trusted that they would provide me the services I paid for. I get it Covid changed the world, stuff happens, that is why I paid the $299 for the Insurance, but Gate 1 Cancelled, not Me. After he hung up on me, I called Gate 1 back to ask the Representative how to use the Air Travel Credit, $700 in the future; she had no idea. There was no Cancellation Number or ID noted on my portal. I said "Okay." Next question: Why am I being charged the $299 for Travel Insurance that I can't use because Gate 1 cancelled the Tour. She used the analogy, "If you purchased Car Insurance then you cancel the Car Insurance, you do not get your money back....That is a Lie and when I said 'That is a Lie" she hung up on me. The Truth is: Yes, The Insurance Company does refund you your premium back because you did not use the Insurance, there may be prorated charges for the days used but you get refunded. The Insurance Company knows that is Fraud and Theft for keeping Money for Services not Rendered. I am so disappointed by the way Gate 1 is benefiting financially from those of Us who trusted the company. I'm shocked and can't believe they treated me in such an unprofessional manner.

We booked a trip to Greece about 3 years ago. We booked 13 days Turkey Treasure last year and because of Covid-19 we booked in September 2021. The hotels were changed at the last minute. Most of the hotels were of poor quality The air conditioning were not delivering cold air. This is the last time I will use Gate1.

Hi Caesar, We do regret any unhappiness with the hotel changes made to your reservation. As noted, the impact of Covid-19 has required us to make some adjustments to ensure a smooth trip. It appears that you were moved to hotels with a 4* rating or above so your comments that they were of poor quality are concerning. Pleased don't hesitate to reach out to us directly to share your experience in more detail. You can do so here: https://www.gate1travel.com/contactus

  1. Gate 1 Travel Reviews

Gate 1 great but their trip insurance provider is worthless. Great company with well-organized tours but the insurance company they route all Travel Insurance through—Arch Insurance—has terrible reviews and does everything to avoid paying claims.
