MOTHICA shares first single from upcoming album Kissing Death

Watch the video for MOTHICA’s new “melancholy ballad” Doomed, taken from her just-announced third album Kissing Death.

MOTHICA shares first single from upcoming album Kissing Death

MOTHICA has announced details of her new album, and shared its lead single.

Due out on August 23 via Heavy Heart/Rise Records, the full-length goes by the name Kissing Death, and is the follow-up to 2022’s Nocturnal .

Speaking about the concept behind Kissing Death and all its soon-to-be-released music videos, MOTHICA shares: “I decided to make death a love interest in a dark rom-com-style tale. Throughout the visuals, I’m seen in a therapist’s office explaining this complicated relationship as if describing a scorned lover. The music videos will be like ‘flashbacks’ of what I’m telling my therapist.

“On the first single, Doomed, we go back in time to an angsty teenage version of me. This is my first brush with the Grim Reaper and I doodle pictures of him in my diary surrounded by hearts. Flash forward, I’m shown performing at a dive bar, clubbing, engulfed in self-destruction. He stalks me, and eventually even proposes marriage, and I leave him at the altar and run away. It ends with me and death in couple’s therapy. I wanted the music to feel cinematic, like the soundtrack of a movie.”

More specifically revealing all about Doomed, she adds that musically it’s a “sibling of my song Forever Fifteen. It’s a melancholy ballad and has this shoegaze influence at the end of the song that swells up with intensity. I’ve heard people talk about gifted child syndrome, or about feeling like a disappointment compared to the accolades they were given as a young kid and I didn’t know other people felt the same way.

“I was a smart kid with a bright future, and sometimes I feel like my depression sabotaged some of that light I had. In the second verse, I open up about my experience in my church youth group and my abusive youth pastor. When I was just coming out of middle school, I was awkward and insecure and I hoped church would be a safe place to make friends but I was taking advantage of at my most vulnerable. I wish I could go back and protect myself from some of the things I went through, and it was incredibly therapeutic to recreate my teenage bedroom for the music video. I casted my friend to play a younger version of me, adorned in 2009 emo warped tour era posters, and show this angsty misunderstood girl. I am terrified to put this song out but I showed the ending to my therapist and she teared up so I felt like this was an important song to lead the album with. It feels like a small sliver of my origin story.”

Olivia Rodrigo ‘s sold-out concerts at Manchester ’s crisis-hit Co-op Live arena have been cancelled at the last minute after a piece of the ventilation system fell from the roof during a soundcheck.

The latest setback at the problem-plagued opening of the 23,500-seat arena came on Wednesday evening just hours before US rapper Boogie With Da Hoodie was due to perform.

Some fans were queuing for tickets when bosses at the £365m arena finally announced the show was off – prompting an outpouring of dismay and the subsequent cancellation of pop star Rodrigo’s concerts, scheduled for 3 and 4 May.

The Co-op Live Arena cited 'ongoing venue-related technical issues' for postponing the three-time Grammy winner's shows on Friday and Saturday which were part of her Guts World Tour.

Wednesday’s A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie show was meant to be Co-op Live’s first official event however the rapper said “something happened” during the soundcheck that resulted in the show being cancelled.

“I’m heated about the situation too, but safety first Manchester, I got you, just stay tuned for further info,” he said.

The venue is part of the Oak View Group, which confirmed that there was a problem with a component of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo said she was “disappointed” that she and her team were unable to perform in Manchester “due to on-going venue-related technical issues”, in a post on her Instagram story.

She added that she was doing her best with her team to reschedule the concerts.

Manchester’s new venue will be the UK’s largest indoor arena when it is finally open, but it has so far suffered numerous technical failures with multiple last-minute cancellations including for comedian Peter Kay and singer Rick Astley.

Astley had been due to perform to 11,000 arena workers and VIPs on 21 April but thousands of people saw their tickets cancelled at the last minute.

General manager Gary Roden quit last week over a series of issues that led to opening delays, and over criticism when he said some small music venues were “poorly run”.

Tim Leiweke, chairman and chief executive of the Oak View Group, said: “The safety and security of all visiting and working on Co-op Live is our utmost priority, and we could not and will not run any event until it is absolutely safe to do so.

“Today was a very unexpected situation but without a doubt the right decision. I deeply apologise for the impact that this has had on ticket holders and fans.”

Meanwhile, the Co-operative Group said it was “disappointed” by the announcement and will seek a “full explanation” from the Oak View Group.

“As the naming rights sponsor for Co-op Live, we are shocked at the incident which has led to late cancellation of tonight’s show at the arena,” a Co-op Group spokesperson said.

“We are relieved that no-one has been injured, but we share the disappointment and frustration of ticket holders, many of whom are Co-op members, with the continuing delay to the opening of Co-op Live and the disruption that this is causing to everyone who has been looking forward to attending events.

“We will be seeking a full explanation from Oak View Group (OVG), who are responsible for the building, to the obvious questions arising from this, together with a clear plan from the Co-op Live venue management team at OVG for opening the venue and postponed and future events.

“Safety is, of course, the number one priority and it is critical that Co-op members and other ticket holders can enjoy events in a venue with the very highest levels of security and safety measures in place.”

Take That move gigs to different Manchester venue over Co-op Live issues

Boyband cites ‘technical issues’ at arena where Olivia Rodrigo, Keane and Peter Kay had also been due to perform

Take That have announced they will not be performing at the new Co-op Live Arena due to “ongoing technical issues” with the venue in Manchester .

The boyband had been due to perform from Tuesday but will instead switch their shows to the rival AO Arena.

The UK’s biggest indoor arena, which cost £365m and has postponed its opening numerous times , said it will be taking “a short pause to events” before welcoming members of the public from 14 May.

A statement from Co-op Live said this was to “fully ensure the safety and security of fans and artists” and allow for an “independent inspection of all elements of the arena ceiling” after an issue with the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.

On Instagram, Take That wrote: “Given the ongoing technical issues around the opening of Co-op Live we have taken the difficult decision to move our May shows to the AO Arena where we have enjoyed many great nights over the years.

“This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but we wanted to give our fans as much notice as possible.

“We’re mindful many of you will already have travel and accommodation plans in place, so we have chosen this option to minimise inconvenience to as many people as possible.

“Our dates in June in Manchester remain unaffected.”

All of Take That’s shows have been transferred and are the same dates as before except for 8 May, which has been changed to 9 May.

Earlier, Keane, who have been celebrating 20 years of their debut album Hopes and Fears, said they were “really disappointed” as they revealed the postponement of a gig on Sunday. The group said it was “entirely beyond our control”.

In a statement on X, Co-op Live said: “Following the events that led to the cancelled A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie show on 1 May, we have decided to take a short pause to events at Co-op Live to fully ensure the safety and security of fans and artists visiting the venue. This time will allow for an independent inspection of all elements of the arena ceiling.”

It added: “At this time, we do not expect further impact on our opening season. We are aware our actions have frustrated and angered ticket-holders. We know you’ve incurred significant disruption, and are finding a way to help make it right.”

Tim Leiweke, chair and chief executive of US-based venue operator Oak View Group, apologised for the delays and to “all those that have been affected”.

On Wednesday night the venue postponed its opening show for the third time, just over an hour before rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was due to perform, because of a problem during the sound check. The US musician’s gig is now scheduled to take place on Saturday at the AO Arena.

Olivia Rodrigo had been due to perform at the Co-op Live Arena on Friday and Saturday as part of her Guts world tour but her shows have also been postponed.

The standup comedian Peter Kay was scheduled to be the first performer at the arena but his show had to be postponed with less than 48 hours’ notice after a test event.

A Co-op Group spokesperson said: “As naming rights sponsor for Co-op Live we are disappointed with these further schedule changes.

“We fully appreciate and understand the impact and upset the delays have caused to ticket-holders and our Co-op members.

“Co-op is a sponsor and does not own or run the venue, and we have made it clear to Oak View Group, who are responsible for the building, that the impact on ticket-holders must be addressed as a priority.

“We are pleased that they will shortly be putting plans in place to do so.

“We also understand that the necessary safety checks following yesterday’s incident are being completed and independently verified so that Co-op members and other ticket-holders can be reassured that the venue has the very highest levels of security and safety measures.”

Olivia Rodrigo 'so disappointed' after both shows at Manchester's Co-op Live arena cancelled

mothica tour cancelled

American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo says she's "so bummed" after two of her tour dates were cancelled, following a "venue-related technical issue" at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester.

The £365 million venue, the biggest indoor arena in the UK, had postponed its opening show for the third time just over an hour before A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was set to perform on Wednesday, 1 May, confirming there was a problem during the soundcheck.

A component of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system used to direct air had separated from the ductwork, and the installer, contractor and third-party inspector will now have to test each nozzle to confirm they are free from the defect, the Oak View Group confirmed.

Two hours after cancelling A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, the venue confirmed Rodrigo would not be performing on May 3 and 4.

A statement on X, formerly Twitter, said: “Due to an on-going venue-related technical issue, the scheduled performances of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour on May 3 and 4 are being postponed.

“Ticket holders can either hold on to their tickets or obtain a refund at point of purchase.”

Three-time Grammy winner Rodrigo took her Guts tour across North America during March and April. She most recently performed at the 3Arena in Dublin, and is expected to perform at London’s O2 arena on May 14, 15, 17 and 18.

On her Instagram story, Rodrigo said she was “so bummed” that two of her shows have been postponed.

“I’ve been having such a great time in Europe so far and I’m sooooo disappointed that we’re unable to perform in Manchester due to on-going venue-related technical issues.

“We’re doing our best to reschedule the show,” she said.

It comes after A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie confirmed “something happened” during his soundcheck at the venue on Wednesday that caused the cancellation of his show.

“I’m heated about the situation too, but safety first Manchester, I got you, just stay tuned for further info,” he said.

Venue bosses had posted a statement cancelling the performance 10 minutes after the doors were set to open for what was meant to be its first official event, as fans queued outside awaiting entry.

It comes after the venue had already postponed its opening twice last week after rescheduling performances from Peter Kay and The Black Keys, and had reassured fans that A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Rodrigo’s shows would be going ahead this week.

Bolton-born comedian Kay was scheduled to be the first performer, but his show had to be postponed with less than 48 hours’ notice following a test event.

The rescheduled dates at the end of April were rescheduled again alongside dates for US rock duo The Black Keys as the venue had to undertake “extensive protocol of testing critical procedures to ensure all areas are ready for fans”.

The new date for the US rock band is May 15 while Kay’s performances have shifted to May 23 and 24.

The arena’s general manager, Gary Roden, announced his resignation last week following the slew of issues that led to a delay in the venue opening.

Akuma rages into Street Fighter 6 on May 22

Akuma rages into Street Fighter 6 on May 22

Akuma will challenge foes worthy enough to face him in Fighting Ground, World Tour, and the Battle Hub.

mothica tour cancelled

Legend tells of a man so consumed by his pursuit of strength that his soul and body have now faded into nothingness. Though many wish he were a mere legend, Akuma will rise again in Street Fighter 6 , to challenge foes worthy enough to face him on May 22. Will you harness the power of the Satsui no Hado or succumb to it?

Akuma made his debut in Super Street Fighter II Turbo as a hidden boss and playable character. In Street Fighter 6, Akuma’s thirst for strength has taken a maddening toll. He carves figures of the hundreds of opponents he has felled and places them in the cave he resides, their silence beckoning him to fall deeper into his path of inner strife.

mothica tour cancelled

Nakayama-san’s comments on his design: Akuma now has a more striking presence complete with gray hair. We also used Buddha statues and animals as references for his musculature in an attempt to give the character a more memorable aesthetic.

mothica tour cancelled

Like the rest of the Year 1 characters, Akuma can become your Master in World Tour. Find him in a new area, Enma’s Hollow, located on the island of Gokuento, but beware the effects of the Satsui no Hado lest you become tormented by its hunger. After increasing your bond with Akuma, he’ll teach you his demonic moves, which you can then assign to your avatar to be used in your World Tour travels or in Avatar Battles in the Battle Hub.

As a man who has spent his life honing his skills, Akuma’s move set will be familiar to long-time fans, but the Satsui no Hado has unlocked new abilities. His fast walk speed and long-reaching normals allow him to control space and the flow of the fight.

mothica tour cancelled

Let’s start with Akuma’s iconic moves that make him a well-rounded pursuer. His infamous fireball, Gou Hadoken is back, and can be charged up so that a “red fireball” is released instead, giving Akuma more options upon hit or block. Everyone’s favorite air fireball, Zanku Hadoken, can cover Akuma’s aggressive approach. His dragon punch, Gou Shoryuken, works as an anti-air or as a combo ender. Finally, Tatsumaki Zanku-Kyaku sees Akuma spinning forward in a series of kicks that change properties based on which kick button is pressed.

mothica tour cancelled

Like his previous iterations, Akuma uses Ashura Senku to glide on the battlefield cloaked in shadows. Be wary of using this ability since it can be stopped mid-way by an opponent’s attacks. However, Akuma has honed this move’s vulnerabilities and can now use Oboro Throw during the approach to surprise opponents.

mothica tour cancelled

Adamant Flame is one of Akuma’s new moves, where he performs a forward thrust engulfed in flames. This move is useful in combos and for exploiting vulnerable opponents due to its long reach. The OD version will wall splat opponents, opening up more opportunities in the corner.

Demon Raid is the Street Fighter 6 version of Hyakkishu. As Akuma leaps into the air with this move, choose to follow up with a low kick, overhead attack, dive kick, or to end the leap early. The OD version of Demon Raid unlocks two more follow-ups: an air fireball and an air tatsu.

mothica tour cancelled

Akuma’s Level 1 Super Art is Messatsu Gohado, where he fires a highly concentrated ball of Satsui no Hado. Like most Level 1s, this move is invulnerable on start-up. Akuma has a second Level 1 called Tenma Gozanku where he unleashes the fireball from the air.

mothica tour cancelled

Empyrean’s End is Akuma’s Level 2 Super Art where he turns the Satsui no Hado into a powerful flame and ignites it within the opponent. Using this move close to the corner will result in a wall splat where Akuma can continue his pressure or damage. Empyrean’s End is also invulnerable on start-up.

mothica tour cancelled

Akuma’s first Level 3 Super Art is Sip of Calamity, another move that is invulnerable on start-up! He throws opponents on the ground with their face and follows up with a single devastating blow.

mothica tour cancelled

Finally, the move you’ve all been waiting for: Shun Goku Satsu or the “Raging Demon.” This second Level 3 Super Art can only be performed when his Vitality is low enough for a Critical Art and can be used to end combos. This time, he allows you to see what happens during the one-second worth of nightmares.

Coming with this update is a new stage, Enma’s Hollow, where Akuma resides to continue his hellbent training. Year 1 Ultimate Pass owners will receive this stage on May 22.

mothica tour cancelled

Akuma’s Outfit 2 is inspired by his debut look in Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Speaking of outfits, Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Akuma will have their Outfit 3s also available for purchase when Akuma releases, and will automatically be distributed to all Year 1 Ultimate Pass owners.

One last thing before we sign off. With the Akuma update comes the major balance patch we mentioned in the past where all characters will receive changes. We’ll have more to share about this in the future as we approach May 22.

Get ready to unleash your inner demon when Akuma rages in!

This federal law would make refunds for delayed or canceled airline flights permanent

Final rules announced last week requiring airlines to disclose all fees and mandating prompt refunds for canceled or significantly delayed flights should be made law, said U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-5th Dist., who will introduce legislation to do that.

Gottheimer announced the legislation at a Newark Airport press conference Monday saying he seeks to make permanent consumer protection rules announced by the Biden administration five days ago.

Dubbed the “Enhancing Transparency for Airlines Act,” the legislation will make law the two rules announced by the Biden administration and the Department of Transportation last Wednesday on airline refunds and fare transparency, Gottheimer said.
