How to Update Safari on a Mac?

• Open "System Preferences" and click on the "Software Update" icon.
• If you have an update available it will list the version of macOS that you will be updating too, and what is going to change.
• To start the update there will be an "Update" button.

macOS Safari Full Installer Database. Download Directly from Apple!

Download macOS Safari Full Installers

This database will contain download links for macOS Safari full Installer pkg files (Safari16.0MontereyAuto.pkg example). This file is the same full installer that you would download directly from software update for Intel and Apple Silicon M1 Mac Computers. The “SafarixxxxAuto.pkg” is stored on Apple’s servers and is a standalone installer package. Once downloaded, all you need to do is install the pkg and Safari will be updated. You can use this pkg to reinstall Safari if you are having issues. Make sure that you download the correct version of Safari for your OS. For macOS Ventura, Safari is included in all updates.

NOTE #1 : I strongly recommend using the Software Update pane or softwareupdate binary to update Safari. Use the stand alone pkg as a last resort before reinstalling macOS.

NOTE #2: You can not use a previous Safari stand alone package to downgrade to a previous version of Safari.

NOTE#3: Apple usually only keeps 2 versions of Safari in the software update catalog. The current version and one behind. When a new version is released, the 3rd download link is removed.

Safari 15 with new tab design now available for macOS Big Sur and Catalina users

While macOS Monterey will not be released until later this year, Apple has decided to make Safari 15 available to all Mac users running macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina. The update brings the controversial new tab design, which was criticized by multiple users during the beta period.

Safari 15 introduces a new browsing experience that unifies the address bar with the tab bar. To achieve this, multiple buttons have been hidden from the main interface and tab management has changed significantly, which has upset many users since the first beta release of macOS Monterey was announced in June.

After several complaints, Apple has brought back the old Safari interface , which is now available as an optional layout for users who didn’t like the new unified design. In addition to the new design, Safari 15 also comes with tab groups, synchronized home page settings, and security updates related to the HTTPS protocol.

It’s worth noting that some Safari 15 features like built-in translator still require macOS Monterey, so you won’t be able to use them with macOS Big Sur or macOS Catalina.

Users can update to Safari 15 by going to the Software Update menu in the System Preferences app. So far, Apple has not given a word on when macOS Monterey will be available to the public.

Apple has just released Safari 15.6.1 for macOS Catalina and macOS Big Sur with important fixes.

If you refuse to update to macOS Monterey, or your Mac simply does not support the latest version of Apple’s desktop operating system, there’s an important Safari update waiting for you.

Bumped to version 15.6.1, this new update to Safari is available for both macOS Catalina and macOS Big Sur users. While this update does not add anything new to the web browser, it is an extremely important release since it introduces security fixes for a WebKit vulnerability.

According to Apple :

Available for: macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina. Impact: Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited. Description: An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking.

If that completely phased you out, then let me put it in simple words - just update to Safari 15.6.1 in order to keep your online activity safe at all times. Staying on the latest version of any software at all is always a great idea.

In order to download the new update, all you have to do is go to System Preferences > Software Update . Just wait for the page to refresh, and the new update will show up in a bit. Install it whenever it shows up.

If you’ve set your Mac to automatically download and install updates, then the update should install within a day or two on its own. But of course, since Safari 15.6.1 is an extremely updated release, therefore it is a good idea to download and install it manually as quickly as possible.

If you’ve owned a Mac for a while, you’re well-aware of the fact that updating macOS to the latest version is a pretty straightforward procedure . However, if you’re looking to create a bootable USB drive, a full installer file is necessary, and the update you download from Apple’s servers might not always be the full installer, particularly with Catalina and Mojave (Big Sur does not seem to have this issue, for what it’s worth). Fortunately, downloading a full installer of macOS Catalina is a lot more easier than you might think, and we’re going to show you one quick and easy way to do this.

This could come in handy for many situations, be it to make boot media, or to run Catalina on various Macs (supported or otherwise). Or, if you don’t have a reliable internet connection to download the update directly. A macOS installer in DMG format could prove to be quite useful if your Mac isn’t booting up and you’re attempting recovery.

Thanks to this patcher tool, you will still be able to install macOS Catalina on an unsupported Mac , as long as you meet the hardware requirements for the update. Also, if you have multiple Macs but limited internet data, you can download the full installer as a one-time step, transfer it to a USB flash drive and use it as bootable media for installation on other Macs.

I have my new macbook air 2012 so i want to install macos catalina right now no os is install how can i install do i first intall another or direct start on catilina guide me

I have followed your instructions but when the Catalina installer starts and I pick the hard drive to install to I get the message

“You must be running “macOs Catalina — 10.15″ or later to install onto this volume”

Its the same error that ultimately led me to find this article.

It was very frustrating to find the roadblocks Apple has installed for what should be a simple, straightforward process for those of us who have no interest in becoming programmers. Much obliged!

This no longer works as Apple is actively blocking the download because “it cannot verify it for malware”

This still works fine, I just confirmed it yet again.

I am not sure what you are experiencing. Apple does not block downloads, Safari may request to allow the download however. Maybe you have a third party tool installed in your web browser?

download some sketchy software from some guy dosdude1 <<< nope, does not work, and who would be stupid enough to do this in this day and age

nobody has a clean way of obtaining installer files from apple, no mention of md5sum for security, just "trust me bro" nonsense. f this, I'm out. ebay this last few macs, and i'm moving to linux 100%. Should have done it a long time ago.

softwareupdate does work to download installers directly from Apple, it requires using the terminal with proper syntax.

The dosdude1 tool also works to download the installer for Catalina.

You can also get the Catalina installer through the Mac App Store.

You have to open “System Preferences” and click on “Security and Privacy” and click open any way toward the right lower part. After this the program should open with no problems. This is just Apple trying to force their consumers to only download from their market. They force this on the iPhone, but this allows you to bypass this on the iMac with out any code editing.

I have gotten by by just downloading Catalina from within the recovery / internet recovery mode.

Hi Alex, can you share how to use this download from github? My sister has a Macbook air 2013, but her boyfriend restarted it and now we can’t log into App Store since we need to upgrade to the latest OS. now I’m trying to find a way to install like Catalina outside of App store.

Safari 14 is now available for macOS Catalina and Mojave

Apple has released the latest version of its Safari browser for macOS Catalina and High Sierra, ahead of the release of Big Sur later this year. Safari 14 improves the browser’s tabs, adds a new privacy report feature, and offers new customization options for your start page. You can download it by heading to System Preferences app and clicking “Software Update.” 

One of the key improvements that’s coming with the latest version of Safari is improved tab management . The tabs themselves have been redesigned to be more space-efficient, display website favicons by default, and show a preview of each tab while hovering your mouse over them. There’s a new start page which you can customize with your own backgrounds and links, and a Privacy Report that highlights any cross-site trackers that the browser is blocking. Oh, and this version of the browser also removes support for Adobe Flash.

Tab management, baby

Some new Safari features will require macOS Big Sur to run, and aren’t available if you’re updating Safari on an older version of the operating system, 9to5Mac reports . These include support for 4K HDR video, and the browser’s built-in translation feature.

Yesterday saw the release of a swathe of Apple operating system updates , including iOS 14 for iPhones, iPadOS 14 for iPads, tvOS 14 for the Apple TV, and watchOS 7 for Apple Watches. You’ve still got a little longer to wait to update your Mac, but at least you can grab the new browser now.

My one complaint is...doesn't *dark gray* usually mean something like "inactive"? I'm having trouble figuring out which tab I'm in when I only have 2 or 3 open because I keep thinking the *lighter* colored tab is the active one, not the *darker* one.

Ok, just figured out why I'm so discombobulated.

Guys if you don't like Safari don't use it. Apple is too controlling. Things are beautiful on the other side, using FireFox ('http://www.firefox.com') and Brave ('http://www.brave.com') (Chrome without Google surveillance code) both of which are open source which is so much better for you on the privacy side and they let you do much more than Safari with extensions. Most problems I have with websites are Safari and its webkit engine anyway. If you are looking for webkit engine and something that gives the same cool and quite performance of Safari, there is a new browser in beta called Orion ('https://browser.kagi.com') , its webkit based, get updates for older MacOS versions unlike Safari, and allows use of Firefox and Chrome extensions! Signup and you will receive an invitation link in some days. Why what happened? FOSS FTW! I have been bitten before. There are options in the browsers under bookmarks where you can book mark ALL opened tabs in each Window. You can save a copy. There is also an export option under File to user with other browsers too.

Ugh, maybe I'll get used to it but right now I'm finding this "chameleon" toolbar very awful to look at -- it's different on every site I visit and calls so much attention to itself. If you switch tabs a lot, it's very distracting. Maybe someone will write a plugin that stabilizes its appearance. Not a fan!

Need to Reinstall JUST Safari for OS 10.13.6 High Sierra

I need to reinstall Safari on Mac OS 10.13.6, but apparently the only option I have is to reinstall all of High Sierra (I recently downgraded from Catalina - too slow) but i am having problems w/ Safari.

Users having disk troubles would be well advised to make certain they have Trusted backups before such a re-install. More than 350,000 files will be re-written, and if your drive Is shaky, that much disk activity could push an already-shaky disk over the edge into failure.

Safari is not not available separately.

However, a re-install in place (without erasing) of the same version from inside MacOS, by design, does not disturb User files or User Applications.

Have you applied all available Software Updates? A later version of Safari is likely be included in available updates.
