Well worth doing , our driver was from the republican side . And he told us about his experiences and life during the troubles .he was also very fair , in seeing it from the other sides aspect .( the common man’s side not the establishments) . Belfast is clearly a better place now . I can genuinely say I fell in love with all the people and places I saw . Peace and prosperity to you all

Jackie Counter was a loyalist paramilitary from Belfast who held the rank of lieutenant in the Ulster Defence Association (UDA) and who was shot and killed by the rival loyalist paramilitary organisation the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) in August 2020, because of a loyalist feud.

I chose to walk to the pickup location at the corner of the City Hall which was very convenient. (One could also arrange for hotel pickup.) Several cabs were waiting. There is someone in charge who is sorting out tourists and drivers- easy for all. My driver was Danny. He was amazing. Very genuine and informative, including first hand knowledge having lived in the area for 6 decades. I happened to be the only client (my friend cancelled last minute). This gave me the opportunity for lots of questions! Danny was truly engaged and the conversation never lapsed. We got out of the cab for close-up looks at several spots. Danny stopped anytime I asked. The neighborhoods, the murals and the peace wall tell a story I knew very little about. A great history lesson. The gaol was an interesting experience. Again, lots of history. Be sure and have lunch and a pint (wine and soft drinks available) in the restaurant. I did to break up the cab tour from the gaol tour. Great food! Be aware there is no arranged tranportation from the gaol. However the receptionist can call a taxi or it is a short walk to Belfast City Centre. The driver presented a very balanced view throughout the tour telling the story of the murals from both sides. Would recommend. The Gaol aspect of the tour was not that accessible because of the restrictions of the cell doors on wheelchair access. Turned up and met Danny the tour guide who was very welcoming and explained everything before we set off. The murals and stories really open your eyes to the history in Belfast. We could have stayed all day. To have the tour of Crumlin jail, bottles of water and a free meal and drink is a very nice touch. Got plenty of memories and photos. Whats behind the murials the people and the areas. We was also doing crumlin road jail so decided to upgrade to do both. Tbe ticket office sorted it all out for us and we arrived at 9.45 same time as Danny H, he asked us what we had seen and done so he could tailor his trip, he took us into both of the communities and told us the story of the people, how he felt uneasy being one side but not the other. Albert Memorial Clock

The Crown Saloon

Located in Victoria Street and built by WJ Barrie in 1865, the top of the tower leans four feet off the perpendicular, the Clock leans as it was built on wooden piles on marshy, reclaimed land around the River Farset. The tower is 113 feet high (not quite Pisa) and is one of the best known landmarks of Belfast.

The City Hall

Home of the Belfast City Council, this magnificent Edwardian “wedding cake” was built during 1896-1906 by Alfred Brumwell Thomas, to reflect Belfast’s City status which was granted by Queen Victoria in 1888. The Dome is 173 feet high.

An outstanding example of a Victorian gin palace, The Crown is one of Northern Ireland’s oldest and best-known pubs. The Crown Liquor Saloon was built in 1839-1840 and is owned by the National Trust. Panels in the restaurant on the first floor were meant for the Britannic, the sister ship of the Titanic.
