What you should know about the floating markets in Bangkok

Bangkok’s floating markets have a long history in the region and reflect the traditional way of life of the people who live along the rivers and canals.

The waterways of Bangkok are called klongs in Thailand and used to be the main routes for goods trade.

Today, they are still an important part of the culture and daily life of the locals.

At the same time, they are also among the most popular Bangkok attractions, which, over the years, have become another source of income for merchants and tour operators.

But fear not: although the floating markets are popular with tourists, they have retained much of their authenticity and still offer exciting glimpses into the lives and culture of the locals.

The best way to explore the floating markets of Bangkok is to take a boat trip.

Not only can you stock up on souvenirs and regional specialties, but you can also experience the unique atmosphere of the Klongs up close.

This fun private day trip from Bangkok takes you southwest of the city to the highlights of Samut Songkhram and Ratchaburi province.  After approximately 1½ hours driving from Bangkok we arrive at the unusual Maeklong railway market, a market situated on railway track (known as "Talad Romhoop" or "market with closed umbrellas" among the locals). Watch merchants quickly fold their stall covers and move their products away from the tracks when the train is arriving.  Then, see them skillfully roll tables and baskets back into position in seconds to resume their business after the train leaves.

We then visit the popular Damnoen Saduak floating market in Ratchaburi province.  This very old floating market is where villagers came to buy and sell their farm produce. It is open daily and in present days it is mainly visited by tourists, many of the boats are used to sell souvenirs. The market came about after a manmade canal was dug in the reign of King Rama IV to facilitate transportation by boats in the area.  This canal was later named Damnoen Saduak, meaning "convenient travel". Highlight of this market is the variety of local snacks, tropical fruits, and the famous "boat noodles".

Along the way we visit a coconut sugar farm as well.

When possible we also visit Tha Kha floating market, one of the hidden gems around Bangkok. It is highly recommended to plan your tour for the weekend as then this market is open. An authentic floating market that has served the local community for 30 years.  Originally, the market was where fishermen and farmers came to exchange their goods.

Boat tour at one floating market is included.

This private tour from Bangkok is organised exclusively for you, no others will join. You will be in trusted hands with our professional driver and English speaking licensed tour guide.

This tour is offered without a full lunch, we do include several snacks, tropical fruits, and delicious noodle soup. If you like to enjoy a nice lunch, then please have a look at our Floating markets and Bangkok tour or Markets and Tham Khao Bin cave tour .

20 reviews for Railway market and Floating market tour

UK Tourist – March 13, 2024

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Mae Klong Railway market, Damnoen Saduak market and Tha Kha Market. This was my husband’s first time in Thailand and this tour was one of his main highlights, particularly Mae Klong and the tranquil boat ride at Damnoen Saduak. Our tour guide B was informative and friendly, walking us through all the various parts, providing delicious Thai delicacies from the market, what a treat. The Railway market was more crowded and tourist-focused than the last time I visited it which B explained was a result of the post-pandemic tourism boom. Damnoen was even better than I remembered and Tha Kha was a fun discovery though a lot more hectic. We were slightly disappointed not to visit the Coconut Farm as advertised in the package but overall still had a wonderful day.

David S – February 12, 2024

Absolutely fabulous. Ms B and Mr A were wonderful. Answered every question and made the whole trip so enjoyable. Loved all the samples Ms B purchased for us to try. Great time!

Donna D – December 27, 2023

We have been on this tour before, a few times, and they made the train market and floating market outstanding. Tour guide and drivers were outstanding. We had to cancel last minute on the morning of our booking, due to illness, however after talking to BKK Tours they agreed to moved it a day. This was our third time using this company and I can not say anything but good things. If you are thinking of doing a tour in Bangkok I would highly recommend this company! They are just wonderful and so so friendly.

Sara – September 7, 2022

Great day out. Miss Air was very kind and gentle and gave us plenty of opportunities to shop if we wanted. Loved the way she interacted with the stall holders at the markets. There were plenty of opportunities to try local food and we also had a coffee stop. The van used was very comfortable and the driver was lovely.

Londonmum35 – August 11, 2022

BKK were very professional and helpful right from the beginning. Due to our holiday dates I had wanted to visit the Damnoen Saduk floating market on a Friday, but noticed they were not offering this, only weekends. When I requested it, they explained it was because the market was not yet recovered from the pandemic closure and might be less worth it on a weekday, but they offered to hold a reservation for us and then wait and see nearer the time if it would now make a better visit. (I had contacted them a month in advance.) Ms Air, our guide, visited the market during the week just before to check, and then they advised the visit could go ahead as many more sellers were now back. I really appreciated their professionalism in this. The day itself was wonderful – an early start but worth it! After a luxury car journey, during which Ms Air told us interesting information about what we would see, we arrived first at the train market. I had specifically chosen a company that arrived by car, not train, as I wanted to watch the train arrive and leave, and had noted from reviews that Ms Air could secure a table at the cafe with a great view. In fact we were lucky enough to be at the market long enough for two trains to pass through with great views. The market was wonderful in its own right even without the train, a busy local market in which we were shown many fascinating stalls and sampled some lovely treats. And then onto the nearby floating market. We were so pleased that Ms Air felt that it seemed quite well recovered – not many tourists (which was great for us) but most sellers were back. We were gently paddled through the market in a long tail boat, enjoying the atmosphere, and felt no pressure to buy anything. We also made a stop by the coconut sweet maker, and Ms Air explained what he was doing and arranged for us to have a go too at spooning out the candy mix, which was fun. She gave us as much time as we wanted to wander through the stalls, and helped us negotiate fair prices for the things we wanted to buy. We only left once we were ready, and again on the way home she gave us great advice and suggestions for our remaining stay. Definitely one of our favourite days of the holiday!

Jeremy D – February 21, 2020

Loved the tour and Ms Raht was an excellent guide, willing to help and answer all our questions. The best way for us to end a vacation.

John – February 2, 2020

Our guide tour Air and our driver did an excellent job. They tailored our tour based on our preferences and their recommendations. We had a wonderful time with them in Bangkok. Thank you very much!!!

Kamran – January 3, 2020

Another excellent tour on our itinerary. Very well organized and thought out. Ms. Onn was an outstanding guide, did a great job picking out refreshments and foods to give us a full Thai experience. She was very knowledgeable and made sure we got a good sense of some of the background behind each of the locations we visited.

Janine W – December 27, 2019

A wonderful, fun experience! Our excellent tour guide, Nadia, made sure we got the chance to taste various fruits and front-row seats to see the train roll through the market. She even made our visit to the chaotic floating market flow easily, arranging transport and shopping and food tasting seamlessly.

SPBKK – December 17, 2019

A morning of pure fun and amazing experiences. We loved this tour, to see the train market and the water market is like nothing we have ever seen before. Mrs Onn is super friendly, intelligent, helpful and knowledgable.

Colleen M – December 8, 2019

I kept patting myself on my back for selecting this tour company. We just didn’t believe Damnoen Saduak could have deteriorated so badly, thank goodness we had the perspective of the Tha Kha floating market. Surprisingly, the Railway market and the food were the highlights of our tour. Air was extremely cheerful, polite, and patient. She was knowledgeable and solicitous. We have made many trips to Southeast Asia, (4 to Bangkok alone) and we have never tried the food due to fear of illness. Air encouraged us to try foods. She selected foods that would not upset our Western stomachs, and we were delighted with her choices. As we left one market, we asked what the line of people was for. They were waiting for the soup she had gotten us. She waited in that long line while we were sitting, eating another another of her food selections, then she brought us the bowls of soup. She made sure we had the best of everything. Air was friendly with many, many vendors and we received the benefit of their friendships. Air simply gave us a very happy, fun day. It could not have been better.

CP – November 6, 2019

Ms. Nira was extremely personable, professional, and knowledgeable. Touring with her felt like a good friend taking you around town. The tour went like clock work and we never felt rushed. The floating market experience was surreal and the authentic lunch was delicious. This BKK tour is a must when visiting Bangkok!

Keri A – October 24, 2019

This was the second time we did this tour with Air and it did not disappoint! We were picked up on time, and the journey to the markets was comfortable. Once at the markets, Air showed us around, had us try various foods and even got us a cup of tea since we hadn’t had time for one before we left! Having the delicious mango and sticky rice at the Floating Market was the highlight! Air was full of interesting information and extremely pleasant.

Marty – August 30, 2019

Air was super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Very much enjoyed the walk through markets trying local delights.

Donna L – August 26, 2019

Nadia was the best, an excellent guide. Highlight of this tour is the train coming through the Train Market.

Julie – June 27, 2019

Day 1 of our two day tour package consisted of tours on the floating market and the Railway market. Our guide, Petch, and driver, Mr A, meet us promptly at our hotel in downtown Bangkok. The van was a brilliant set up. Better than we imagined. And, Mr A is a pro at navigating the Bangkok traffic!

Petch is very knowledgeable about Thai culture and have us excellent context along the car ride on what to expect in the floating market. We made one stop at a local farm where we got to see how coconut sugar is processed. My family loved the place…My daughter especially liked climbing the coconut tree while we shopped around. We even found a few tasty gifts to bring back to the States.

Once we arrived, it was as if Petch knew ‘everyone’ at the market which made our transition to a boat flawless. Petch masterfully balanced answering our questions on the boat and letting my family enjoy the experience. She allotted enough time after the boat to show us an opportunity to explore the market on foot. She surprised us at the end with ice cream for the kids and some traditional Thai snacks and fruit for us to enjoy at the Railway market.

Back at the van, Mr A had cold towels and water waiting for us! We were very appreciative. Petch took us straight away to a spot at the Railway market where we arrived just in time for the 11am train and had enough time to spare to wait for the 11:30am train. While waiting, Petch had prearranged a perfect spot for us to view the Train where we ate the food from the Floating Market and enjoyed cold drinks. We were able to take awesome pix and video of all the activities leading up to the Train’s arrival.

Mr A picked us up right on the spot with more cold towels and water for us! That was awesome. On the way back to the hotel, we mostly fell asleep. Petch explained to us what to expect for the next day.

Petch is so friendly and easy to talk and relate to. My family and I absolutely fell in love with her. That night, my kids (6 and 9 yrs old) continued to talk about Petch, so I know they really really liked her.

Overall Day 1 was super flawless and a great experience!!

Tera W – February 21, 2019

The booking process was the easiest, most efficient, and most helpful that I’ve ever received! This tour was top-notch on all levels. It was a highlight to be on a boat at the Floating Market before the craziness of all the other tourists arrived. It was very special. Air was simply wonderful. She went to such lengths to teach us everything and to make us feel so welcomed and comfortable. She was the very best!

Monika – February 7, 2019

The pick up was on time and the transport was good. The railway was a good experience. The floating market was a bit disappointing because it was a week day, not much was happening. Our guide Ms. Air was excellent. Thank you for giving us a great day.

Amanda – February 3, 2019

Excellent service! Our guide Ms Onn was very kind and patient.

Yomama – January 27, 2019

The BEST! Toured with Air for 4 days. Saw all the sites. Everything about BKK is excellent. Had the best time on my vacation touring with Air.

Wandering the World

Half Day Railway and Floating Market Tour in Bangkok

bangkok railway and floating market tour

Bangkok has a lot of different markets. Have you ever had to hop aside for a passing train while checking out which fruits to buy? Or floated between market stalls in a rowing boat? That’s what will happen when you go on a half day railway and floating market tour in Bangkok.

Private Bangkok Floating Market Tour with Pandan Tour

We went on a half day railway and floating market tour in Bangkok with Pandan Tour . We loved how their tour combined two of the most popular markets in Bangkok: Damnoen Saduak Floating Market (the one from the postcards) and Maeklong Railway Market (the famous train market).

Pandan Tour actually offers 2 different floating market tours , depending on which day of the week you like to go. If you book the tour on a weekday (Monday through Thursday), you’ll visit  Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and Maeklong Railway Market . However, if you book the tour in a weekend (Friday through Sunday), you’ll also visit the more authentic Amphawa Floating Market , which is closed during the week.

Maeklong Railway Market

At Pandan Tour they prefer intimate tours . You can go on a private tour, like the four of us did, or join another small group with a maximum of 5 people in total. Because the tour groups are small, they’re happy to cater the tour to your preferences. Feel free to enquire about this when booking.

Floating Market Tour Prices with Pandan Tour

Prices of the floating market tour with Pandan Tour vary depending on the number of people joining the tour. We paid 9,180 baht (~ $278 ~ €240) for a Weekend Floating Market Tour for 4 people. That’s 2,295 baht (~ $70 ~ €60) per person, to be paid in cash when starting the tour. For more information, up-to-date prices, and bookings, we refer to the Pandan Tour website .

Everything (except for souvenirs) is included in this price: transport to and from all markets, Thai snack sampling, drinking water and/or soft drinks, 2 boat rides, and a Thai lunch. No need to worry about paying extra fees during the tour, just follow your guide, enjoy, and keep your camera ready.

If you decide to go with Pandan Tour for your floating market tour after reading this post, we’d appreciate it if you mentioned us (Wandering the World) when booking!

Floating Market Tour Itinerary with Pandan Tour

Be ready to be picked up at your accommodation or the meeting point at 7:00 in the morning . After about a one hour drive , you’ll arrive at the  Maeklong Railway Market . After a short stroll over the small market, you’ll see the train pass (it’s scheduled to do so at 8:30) before you head back to the van.

bangkok railway and floating market tour

Another 30 minute drive will take you to  Damnoen Saduak , where you’ll be touring the touristy floating market in a rowing boat, sample some Thai snacks, and visit the Coconut Sugar Farm. That will take nearly 2 hours in total .

bangkok railway and floating market tour

By 11:00 you’ll be on your way to  Amphawa , the non-touristy floating market. From there, you’ll board another boat, which will take you to a petting zoo and the Tree Covered Temple .

At around 12:15 the van will pick you up again to take you to an authentic Thai restaurant for lunch. By 13:15 you’ll be heading back to Bangkok, which will be an hour’s drive, depending on traffic.

Note that this itinerary is subject to change. The activities stay the same, but your guide reserves the right to mix up the order as he sees fit.

Our Floating Market Tour Experience with Pandan Tour

We booked our floating market tour with Pandan Tour a couple of days beforehand through their website . They agreed to pick us up at 7:00 in the morning at our hotel, The Step Sathon , at no extra cost. Probably because it’s only 3 minutes from the suggested meeting point .

Our guide Anan arrived at the hotel 15 minutes early, followed by our driver a couple of minutes later, and by 6:55 we were on our way. Anan gave a lot of background information during the ride , about the sea salt fields we saw for example, but about Bangkok and Thailand in general as well. Did you know Bangkok isn’t actually the real name of the city? The other one is too long to remember though.

Selfie at Maeklong Railway Market

Anan also told us that they wrap fruits like guava and mango in paper instead of using chemicals to keep away the insects. That’s how they get their nice colour as well. Interesting!

Our first stop of the tour was Maeklong Railway Market , where we arrived at about 7:50 , after an hour’s drive. While following the train tracks to the market, Anan told us these were newly laid in 2016.

We walked over the train tracks, as the market stalls take up all the space between the railway and the houses, the goods (mostly food) nearly touching the tracks. Anan told us about the different foods we were seeing and bought us some pineapple.

We continued all the way to Maeklong Railway Station , when suddenly a horn warned us of the approaching train . Nobody really acknowledges the train until it’s only moments away from them, when they fold their umbrellas and awnings.

We were standing at the station, watching the train arrive (at about  8:30 , as scheduled ), but for nicer photos it’s probably better to be between the market stalls. Tourists were being pretty selfish, taking photos and selfies until the train almost touched them. Don’t risk being run over by a train for that perfect #selfie though!

Selling food from their paddle boats

We hopped back in the van, and a 30 minute drive later, at about 9:00 , we arrived at Damnoen Saduak Floating Market . We walked for a while along the water, tasting the coconut pancakes and fried bananas Anan bought us, before boarding a rowing boat .

Our private rower expertly navigated us through the maze of khlongs (Thai canals). The banks were taken up by wooden market stalls selling all kinds of souvenirs. About halfway through we pulled up for a short visit to the Coconut Sugar Farm , before being stuck in a rowing boat traffic jam:

By 11:00 we had moved from the touristy floating market to the more authentic one: Amphawa . Here, the vendors are floating on the water in rowing boats, while you walk on the shore along more market stalls.

This market is very popular with locals , but we visited a little early to see it in full action. It’s interesting to have visited both a touristy and non-touristy floating market though, to see the difference.

Exploring Amphawa

From Amphawa we boarded a long tail boat for a short trip over the Maeklong River . Keep your eyes open for passing goannas! They dropped us at a weird petting zoo, which we quickly crossed to get to Wat Bang Kung . Also known as the Tree Covered Temple, this tiny temple is entirely swallowed by a tree. Seemingly popular with locals, but we weren’t that impressed.

We ended our tour with a generous lunch at an authentic Thai restaurant along the water. The food was really good! We ate too much, and by 13:15 we started the 1 hour drive back to our hotel .

We really enjoyed this floating market tour with Pandan Tour ! Anan was an excellent guide, showing us around and telling us all kinds of fun facts. In our opinion the petting zoo and Tree Covered Temple didn’t really add any value to the tour, but that’s personal I guess. Apart from that, we had a lovely day!

Ending the tour with a delicious waterfront lunch

Maeklong Railway Market | An Easy Bangkok Day Trip (2023 Update)

Train passing through the Maeklong Railway Market

What's In This Guide?

Maeklong railway market bangkok, thailand.

It’s no secret that I love exploring markets around Bangkok. There are so many to choose from. You’ll find floating markets, street markets, night markets and, even railway markets!

The Maeklong Railway Market is one of Bangkok’s most unique attractions. It is truly a must-visit destination.

What makes the Maeklong Railway Market unique is that it’s located right on top of a railway line, and trains run right through the market a few times per day.

One minute, stalls are set up all over the railway line as hundreds of people go about their shopping. Suddenly a train approaches as the market literally folds away and lets the train pass through. Then, in a matter of seconds, it unfolds back into a busy market. Crazy right?

This market is not actually located in Bangkok, but about 1.5 hours southwest of the city. You will need to take a taxi and minivan or multiple trains to get here, directions further below.

TakeMeTour offers this awesome day trip to the Maelong Railway Market including; transport, hotel pickup, drop off, lunch, AND a bonus visit to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. It’s one of their signature trips and run by a true Bangkok local.

Here’s a photo of me sitting in the middle of the market. A couple of minutes later a train rushed through.

Maeklong Railway Market Tracks

The Maeklong Railway Market is a small market on the railway tracks next to Maeklong Railway Station. When there are no trains around, you can easily forget this is actually an operating railway line. When the train sounds its horn, it turns straight back into a railway line.

The market is cramped under the fold-out umbrellas. It is quite hot, and there is a lot of activity going on. The locals walk around slowly, and all over the place. Be patient as you walk through the market, otherwise, you will just get frustrated by the foot traffic.

It is interesting to see how half of the store owners are asleep on the ground behind their shop. I guess there is no better way to escape the midday heat than to sleep through it. Even better, no one will push cheap souvenirs in your face. This is definitely an authentic little local market still.

What Can I Buy at the Bangkok Train Market?

The Maeklong Railway Market has lots of fresh seafood. For most foreign travellers with nowhere to cook, this probably isn’t of much interest. However I suggest you try some of the dried fish or dried squid, it’s a local favourite, and ready to eat on the go.

There are also loads of fresh fruits grown in Ratchaburi just next door. Be sure to try the crunchy pink Rose-apples and the huge juicy Pomelos. If you’re brave enough you can even try some fresh Durian! These three are some of the most popular fruits in Thailand, and there’s no place to get them fresher than at the markets.

Get more out of Thailand: our  detailed guide to Thailand

There’s also a wide selection of Thai desserts available at the Maeklong Railway Market. I’m not familiar with the names of all of these, but they’re definitely worth trying. Some desserts are good, and some are interesting . It’s a lucky dip, so just take your chances.

Around the market, you will also find some small restaurants and cafes. A meal is about 100 THB which is a fairly standard price. Look out for the guy on the corner who sells homemade ice cream, it’s definitely worth a taste too!

You will not find tacky souvenirs or electronics at the Maeklong Railway Market. For these, your best bet is MBK in Bangkok .

Where is the Maeklong Railway Market?

The Maeklong Railway Market is located in Samut Songkhram Province . This is about 1 hour south-west of Bangkok, just beyond Samut Sakhon.

The area is surrounded by small canals and the Mae Klong River which flows out to the ocean in the Gulf of Thailand.

The market is only a short distance from the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, and the busier but more authentic Amphawa Floating Market . They’re both worth checking out if you are visiting the area.

Getting to the Maeklong Train Market

There are a few different ways to get to the train market from Bangkok. The option you take depends on time, budget, and your adventurous spirit. I personally go by minivan, as it is the quickest and cheapest.

Minivan : departs Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) and the Northern Bus Terminal (near to Mo Chit BTS) for 70thb per person. Minivans depart from the Southern Bus Terminal every 40 minutes or so. The trip takes 90 minutes and drops you off right by the market. Do not go to the Victory Monument bus terminal, services ended in 2016.

Taxi: a driver for the whole day costs about 2,000thb which is economical with a group of 4. The driver can also take you to the Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa Floating Markets for the same fare.

Train: takes about 3 hours in total, one way. Catch a train from Wongwian Yai Station to Mahachai Station. Cross the river to Tha Chalom Pier. Catch another train from Ban Laem Station to the Maeklong Railway Market.

Warning: Thai trains are notorious for running late, therefore, this 3-hour journey can easily take much longer. Trains also have no air conditioning so only choose this option if you are up for the Bangkok heat.

Tour:  if all of the above seems a bit too challenging then you can also take an easy day trip to the Maeklong Railway Market from Bangkok. Check out this trip with TakeMeTour , one of their most popular day trips. This tour includes all transport, hotel pickup, drop off and lunch! It’s not a bad way to get around.

Maeklong Railway Market Train Schedule 202 3

Trains arrive at Maeklong Station 7 days a week. You can visit any day.

The Maeklong Railway Market train Schedule in 2023 is:

  • Train Arrival times : 8.30 a.m., 11.10 a.m., 2.30 p.m. and 5.40 p.m.
  • Train Departure times : 6.20 a.m., 9.00 a.m., 11.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m.

I recommend that you hang around the railway tracks 10 to 15 minutes before the train arrives or departs. Trains in Thailand are notorious for being late, so you don’t want to wait another hour if you miss the train by just a few minutes!

Maeklong Railway Market Opening Hours

The train market is open 7 days a week from 6.20am to 5.40pm. Opening hours coincide with the first arrival and last train departure from Maeklong Station.

It is best to visit the market in the early morning. Around midday and in the afternoon the market is hot and uncomfortable, especially in the summer. That’s why all the locals are sleeping! After this market, you can continue on the to the nearby Amphawa and Damnoen Sadauk Floating Markets in the afternoon.

Tip: if you want to discover loads more markets with details of opening hours, days and locations, then consider getting my Bangkok travel guide . There are over 50 destinations in and around Bangkok. That’s way more than you can see even with a full week in Bangkok!

Accommodation Near the Market

Should you spend a night out of Bangkok near the Maeklong Railway market? Hell yes! It is a great way to experience part of ‘outer Bangkok’ that many other travelers just don’t get to see, a true insight into what the non-touristy Thai culture looks like.

The lifestyle out here is slower than in Bangkok. You can forget about the endless traffic jams, annoying Tuk Tuk drivers and the Khao Sarn Road party scene. Replace that with a laid-back village atmosphere where people live by the canals and still get around by boat instead of a car.

For an authentic experience, I suggest the  Bann Reuan Penn Homestay . This small guesthouse is located right next to the canal (klong in Thai), where you can watch the boats go by in the morning and afternoon. It is also within walking distance of the Amphawa Floating Market, perfect for enjoying the bars and restaurants at night without needing to rush back to Bangkok on the last bus of the afternoon.

From just $40 per night for a double room (including free breakfast for two), it is as good a deal as you will find in Bangkok!

Other FAQ about the Train Market

Is the Maeklong Railway Market closed? The market was temporarily closed in 2015 for track repair works. However, the market has since re-opened for visitors every day of the week!

Which other markets can I visit nearby? The closest market is the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in  Samut Songkhram. You can get there easily by taxi which should cost less than 100 THB.

They took us for a 10 minute drive to a place they called the lost city. Just before we picked up our bicycles we stumbled upon a traditional funeral. Bim explained us all about on how it all worked which was very interesting to learn about. After we walked into the hotel were we supposed to pick up the bikes. Only to find out they weren't ready and still had to inflate some tyres. It was a bit clunky and dysfunctional but Bim took us for a small walk through the temples and explained some of the local customs to fill the time to ready the bikes. The bikes were a bit old and clunky and gears were stuck but it gave it more of an authentic feel. On the ride she took us through the area of the lost city where she explained on how the old temples got flooded and how they used to work. Bim was very interesting to listen to and knows a lot about the history! Around 10.15 our bike tour was over and our Songthaew driver took the bikes back while we visited another temple. We met up again after for a ride to the river ping. Where we embarked on a 30min ride on the river where you could see different sides of the city. Richer and poorer houses. After the ride we docked at a local restaurant where we ate some traditional northern Khoi Soi and had some herbal cold drinks. Which were delicious! It felt a little bit rushed as we were still eating and we had to pick our desert already. Which i must confess was the best damn ice cream we've ever had. (Mango sorbet and cream coconut milk ice cream) After that Bim and the Songthaew took us back to the hotel. Around mid-day. Really good historical tour that can get a few updates. But overall worth it for a good quick tour! Read more Written 12 May 2023

During the tour there was a severe lack of knowledge on the history of the bridge on the river kwai. Although I knew some of the history, the reason I took this tour was to expand my knowledge. The tour guide lacked an understanding of the English language. I wish I had a different guide for a more memorable experience. The tour was not cheap so value for money. So the 15 night trip was designed around our own requirements with 10 nights of touring the highlights of Thailand followed by a 5 night stay on the fabulous island that is Koh Lipe. The vacation started in Bangkok with a free day to ourselves followed by a day of seeing the delights of Bangkok (Golden Palace, Canal tour etc). Thereafter we spent a number days on the road with a private guide taking in Kanchanburi (River Kwai), Ayuttha, Sukhthai before completing this leg in Chiang Mai where we had a great time at an Elephant camp amongst other tours. We then flew back to Bangkok to spend a couple of days at our own leisure before we then flew down to Hat Yai in order to make our way to Koh Lipe which we hand picked as an island to relax and explore. The pre-arrangements and support throughout were second to none and we couldn't recommend Discova anymore highly. It certainly ticked all the boxes. Read more Written 9 March 2020

He truly made our day absolutely special. He showed us the monkey islands, The Beach, Maya Bay, Amazing Food on an Island crossed into Krabi. The Phi Phi island experience was amazing, the weather was on our side. Refreshments and fruit provided for the whole trip. Day2 Phuket... we did The Bond Islands which was no fault of the tour guide but for us is was slightly boring. Where as when the tour guide took us canoeing through the caves .... it was amazing. Once in a lifetime experience. We got to see some unique caves and we were taken to some of the most breathtaking views. Once again the food was amazing all cooked on the boat!! Sonya was amazing.. she booked our trip and was available by whatsapp to answer any questions. Koh Samui .. what an amazing booking to the Elephant Santuary. Well worth it!! The Big Buddha is also worth it. Buffalo Tours have been our transfers from the minute we landed at Bangkok Airport we have been impressed throughout our two week trip where we used them in a total of 9x. They have helped us throughout and also told us safe travellers tips.. we were also informed by them to book our scooters through the hotels as shops outside will hold our Passports as deposit. It worked out cheaper then using the Taxis. Very safe to use... have already recommended them to everyone I know!! We were a group of 5 and all of us were extremely happy. Easy to find our transport at airport (name on board just outside arrivals). Immaculately kept vehicle for transfer and very nice driver. He explained where we were along the journey and how far to go, very nice person and he explained about the re branding from Buffalo to Discova. At the hotel (OZO in Kata) we were fortunate enough to meet Ton, the Discova representative on site. He was the most informative, polite person we had the pleasure to meet during our trip. He remembered names, what tours were booked and what tours had been done - he gave detailed descriptions of everything we would be seeing on our tours and made a point of asking how the tour went upon our return. The tour of Phuket was very informative and comfortable transport with an excellent guide with good English skills. Did the Phang Na tour through Discova/Buffalo and were not disappointed at all, a fantastic day from start to finish.
