Zelda Orchestra Event To Be Held at Nintendo Live 2023

Posted on august 02 2023 by john piland.

zelda symphony tour 2023

Nintendo Live 2023 is quickly approaching, and with it, the long-awaited return of an official Zelda concert.

Five years after the last Zelda concert in 2018 , the franchise is returning to the stage for a few performances at the upcoming Nintendo Live event in Seattle, Washington from September 1st through September 4th. There will be a roughly 45 minute performance every day of the event, where fans can enjoy orchestrations inspired by the  Legend of Zelda series set against “a fun visual presentation.”

Concerts will be at 11 AM Pacific Time on Friday, September 1st, Saturday, September 2nd, and Sunday, September 3rd, and at 10:30 AM Pacific Time on Monday, September 4th.

A Warp Pipe Pass is required to attend the concerts. Though registration for Nintendo Live 2023 has closed, Warp Pipe Passes, which are required for invited guests to attend certain events, are available free of charge. They are required for anyone seven years old and up, but  parents and guardians may bring one accompanying child under the age of seven along with them. Registration for these passes will become available here , beginning August 3rd at 7 PM Pacific Time.

Among other events, there will also be a Super Mario concert at 1 PM Pacific Time Friday through Sunday, and at 12:30 PM Pacific Time on Monday. Warp Pipe Passes are required for these events. You can find more information right here .

It’s exciting to see a Zelda concert return after five long years. Many new soundtracks have sprung from the series since then, and it’d be great to hear some of those make their way into the show, especially a track or two from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity . Here’s to hoping these concerts tease a resurgence of Symphony of the Goddess .

Are you excited that Zelda is finally making its way back to the performance stage? How many performances will you go to if you plan to be at Nintendo Live 2023? What new or never orchestrated Zelda themes would you like to appear? Let us know in the comments below!

John has been a Zelda fan for over 10 years now and is proud to say the series has had a major impact on his life (and wallet). After years of going to Zelda Dungeon for guides or the latest news on the series, John achieved their dream when they joined the writing team in 2019; John can hardly believe how long it’s been. A librarian, he loves meticulously arranging his library of Zelda games and collectibles. After what felt like an eternity of waiting for Tears of the Kingdom , John looks forward to the future of the Zelda franchise with enthusiasm, whether that’s the upcoming movie, a new spin-off/remake, or the next big game.

The concerts were originally supposed to take place at two different Nintendo Live events which were scheduled to take place on December 16-17 2023 and January 20-21 2024 respectively.

However, the events were both cancelled due to “persistent threats targeting our employees”, with the announcement of the cancellation spotted by  Eurogamer . In a translated version of the full statement by  VGC , Nintendo explained their reasoning for the cancellation.

“Our company has been persistently receiving threatening behaviour targeting our staff. Recently, these threats have extended to the audience and staff of the Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals event as well. With consideration to the safety of our customers as a our top priority, we have decided to postpone the event,” the statement read.

“Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo has been cancelled due to the inability to ensure the safety of our customers.”

As announced on X (formerly Twitter), the concert for  The Legend Of Zelda  franchise will be pre-recorded, and will be uploaded to the Nintendo YouTube channel on February 9. Meanwhile, the Splatoon 3 Deep Cut concert will take place on February 10, a day later, and will also be uploaded to the Nintendo YouTube channel.

NME  reviewed   Splatoon 3  when it released, with our reviewer calling it “messy and marvellous”.

“ Splatoon 3  is an excellent addition to one of Nintendo’s most creative series. An entertaining campaign delivers fun for all ages, assuming you can pull yourself away from Turf War for five minutes, while the world of Splatsville is a vibrant and immersive treat,” our reviewer wrote.

Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses dates and details

Image of Jayson Napolitano

We had a blast at Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony back in October (you can read Chad’s full report here ), but it’s 2012 and we’re now looking forward to Nintendo’s next musical tribute to the series, The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses (SOTG). This is the year-long tour that we spoke to Nintendo’s Bill Trinen about at Comic Con last year, and in addition to a slew of tour dates that were announced this morning by Nintendo, we have a bunch of exclusive details about the tour directly from SOTG’s producer, Jeron Moore.

Hit the jump for a list of tour stops and for details about the content of the concerts.

First, the show will debut on January 10, 2012 in Dallas, TX before heading to Vancouver (March 14), Seattle (March 26), San Francisco (March 28), Denver (April 7), Phoenix (April 20-21), Atlanta (May 12), Montréal (May 31), Austin (June 22), Orlando (July 14), and Toronto (September 29), and that’s just the beginning.

Many more tour dates are planned for announcement, and I’m hoping Southern California will get another performance as I was certainly left wanting even more after the amazing 25th Anniversary Symphony in Los Angeles. Although Bill Trinen told us that the tour is planned through 2012 with possible support beyond that, given how popular the 25th anniversary concert was in addition to the Dallas stop selling out in just two weeks after tickets went on sale, I’m crossing my fingers that this show will be on the road for a long time.

In terms of how the two productions are related, Nintendo is once again directly involved with the show to ensure a quality experience with Jason Michael Paul Productions once again handling the production itself. As we mentioned, Jeron Moore is one of the producers behind the show with arranger Chad Seiter handling most of the arrangements. That’s good news as Seiter was responsible for some of my favorite arrangements from the 25th anniversary show, including “The Wind Waker Symphonic Movement,” “Twilight Princess Symphonic Movement,” “Gerudo Valley,” “Kakariko Village” and the “25th Anniversary Medley.” Like the 25th Anniversary concerts, there will also be a huge screen suspended behind the performers displaying graphical backdrops for the music as well as footage from the featured games.

As far as content is concerned, in the words of Jeron Moore, “Very few pieces will be carried over, with the exception of two of the movements and a couple additional pieces which were meant as teasers for the 2012 tour. Outside of that, the 25th anniversary symphony concerts were intended to be unique, special, one-time commemorative events.” As the tour’s title suggests, the heart of the tour will be a 47-minute long five-part symphony that includes a prelude and four movements, with one movement each dedicated to Ocarina of Time , The Wind Waker , Twilight Princess , and A Link to the Past . I’m particularly excited to hear that A Link to the Past will get its own movement, as it’s my favorite game and soundtrack in the series. And yes, the “Twilight Princess Symphonic Movement” and “The Wind Waker Symphonic Movement” will be the same 10-minute long segments from the 25th anniversary show, which were easily two of the best pieces from that evening.

The rest of the concerts will be dedicated to other pieces from the franchise. Again, Jeron Moore explains: “Symphony of the Goddesses is designed to grow and adapt — the 4-movement symphony is the repertoire of the concert, the timeless classics that we love to hear time and time again. The other aspect of the program is more modular, so you can expect to hear highlights from other favorite moments in the Zelda pantheon that may not be covered by the 4-movement symphony, not to mention a lot of the great music found in the peripheral titles, like Majora’s Mask , or the handhelds like Spirit Tracks , Link’s Awakening or the Oracle duology.” When asked about Skyward Sword in particular, as it featured what’s easily one of my favorite soundtracks of 2011, Moore noted “You can bet we are listening to the fans. We want to deliver what they want,” and “We’ve got our eye on Skyward Sword , too.”

My last question for Moore was regarding the possibility of a music CD dedicated to the tour, as I enjoyed the 25th anniversary CD that came with Skyward Sword and am a fan of other live concert recordings that have been released over the years. I got a, “We’re exploring that. We want to do it,” but no firm commitment.

Feel free to hit up the tour’s official website for ticketing information as it’s looking as though tickets will be selling out fast.

Did you happen to make it out to the 25th anniversary concert and have thoughts about what you heard and whether or not you’d want to check out this show? If you missed the 25th anniversary shows, are you at least excited to be able to see this production at a venue near you? Are you surprised that these concerts even exist at all given how Nintendo has largely ignored the promotion of the music in their games over the years?
