Wiz Khalifa, real name Cameron Jibril Thomaz, is an American rapper and singer songwriter known for his 2010 single “Black and Yellow”.
Born to a military family, Wiz Khalifa’s early years were spent moving from country to country, never truly able to call one place home. This international upbringing has been reflected in the rapper’s music and found him success with his 2008 single “Say Yeah”, which featured Wiz Khalifa’s rap lyrics over a Eurodance track.
Taking inspiration from a variety of artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Notorious B.I.G., Wiz Khalifa plays with a range of musical styles within his tracks, but all are equally melodic.
Known for cultivating a strong fan following from a grassroots level, Wiz Khalifa found his popularity continue to increase after the release of his free mix tape “Kush and Orange Juice”. The mix tape generated so much excitement from fans that it ended up being the number one trending topic on Twitter shortly after its release, and led the rapper to sell out every gig in his 2010 “Waken Baken” tour.
Moving away from Warner Brothers due to delays in releasing his material, Wiz Khalifa switched to Atlantic Records in 2010 and released single “Black and Yellow” shortly after. The single hit the number one spot in the US charts and earned him a Grammy and MTV VMA Award nomination.
The success of this single bolstered anticipation for Wiz Khalifa’s 2011 studio album “Rolling Papers”, which debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard charts. It wasn’t long before this success was repeated when Wiz Khalifa’s 2012 album “O.N.I.F.C” once again debuted in the US number 2 spot with single “Work Hard, Play Hard” reaching number 3 in the rap charts.
Unprepared to rest on his laurels, Wiz Khalifa formed his own record label Taylor Gang Records and has collaborated with Curren$y on a collaborative EP. Furthermore, Wiz Khalifa upped his own achievements yet again with the release of his fifth studio album “Blacc Hollywood” in 2014, which hit the number one spot in the US Billboard charts.
Live reviews
I originally didn't come to see Wiz Khalifa, and didn't mind the idea of missing part of his set and showing up for the entirety of the Fall Out Boy part. But by the end of the night, I've got to say that Wiz is a better showman, better live performer, and more energetic than FOB was, even with their more dedicated fan base. Opening with a video of his smoking a joint with two naked women, I knew the concert was going to be something to remember, and while he was onstage it never quieted down. Even from the lawn section (not ideal seats, but super cheap) I was able to see and hear everything, due to massive screens, great sound, and visual effects of epic proportions. Every time he rapped about weed, green smoke and marijuana leafs would envelop the stage and appear on the screen behind him, while sometimes showing clips of his music videos along with the performance. Unlike FOB, he never left the stage until he was done, performing some of his best, like Black and Yellow, You and You're Friends, A$$ Drop, Promises, So High, Stayin out all night, and a particularly great performances of Work Hard Play Hard and Young Wild & Free. Even when I didn't know the songs he played, like roll up and Taylor Gang, the energy was enough to keep me going and I was never bored. Throwing massive inflatable joints into the crowd was one of his best moments, and It'll be hard to forget his performance. Worth seeing.

After his somewhat questionable ventures in and out of prison for drug possession, some people have become dubious of Khalifa’s spot in the limelight, but there’s absolutely no denying the irritatingly catchy tune of ‘blackandyellowblackandyellow’.
Once it gets stuck in your head, there’s no escape. Wiz initially built his fan base through cult followings gathered through his release of mixtapes, but this became an unnecessary feat after the boom of ‘Black and Yellow’.
Although the cult following that he initially obtained means that now his gigs are somewhat ‘pot heavy’, if you’re willing to overlook this and embrace the lyrics about rolling joints ‘bigger than King Kong’s fingers’, you’re in for a pretty awesome show.
His charisma translates through to performance, engaging with both his band, and audience, often welcoming out his producers and team mates to take a bow, a gesture of inclusion and gratitude.
Khalifa’s clever hooks entice the audience and pushes rap into the mainstream music genre, blurring the lines of traditional stereotypes, and encouraging a broadening of the audiences music taste.
Despite only releasing his debut album in 2006, Wiz Khalifa's discography now stands at six full-lengths and a mammoth 37 singles. It's no surprise that his live set lists often exceed 20 songs and yet from the reaction of the crowd, this still isn't enough.
Wiz has built a reputation as one of the most exciting newcomers to hip hop in the recent years and it is easy to see why as he flies through the likes of 'Hope' and 'Sleaze'. His biggest international hit 'Black & Yellow' gets a big cheer from the audience when it is played in the middle of the set without prior warning. The more technical rap and freestyle tracks invoke larger reaction as Wiz confidently runs through verses without a single slip and the audience cheer him along.
US hit single 'We Dem Boyz' evokes huge reaction from the crowd and Khalifa capitalises on the enthusiasm by following with 'Young, Wild & Free', his collaboration with Snoop Dogg. Despite only being released in 2011, this track has quickly become an anthem as the audience yell back the chorus and sway their arms as one unit.
That shit was wack trust, Wiz performed only like 3 or 4 songs and that was at the very very end everyone was dead tried of standing for hours. There were a bunch of guys acting like they were gonna fight. Until finally there was one right behind me P.S. that guy got knocked the fuck out he was just laying there like a dead fish for about a cool minute and once he got up he had blood dripping from his corner right eye, i got some blood on me, that's what i get for helping him up. Shit he might have deserved it, i don't know. Anyway Wiz had a bunch of his artist preforming they were all pretty wack expect Tuki Carter. Either way the show was disappointing but i guess that's what you get when tickets are sold that cheap.
Wiz Khalifa was honestly one of the best shows I have ever been to. The atmosphere was awesome, and so was his overall message to the audience. "Be positive and accepting of others, because in this life all anyone wants is to be accepted". The set list and other performing artist we're amazing. Wiz played some of his well-known songs in the beginning, such as "Black and Yellow" and "Roll Up" while also mixing in tracks from his new album like "We Dem Boys". Ty Dolla Sign, Jeezy, Iamsu and Sage the Gemini made the show so worth while. The entire audience was on their feet for most of, if not the entire show. My friends and I really enjoyed ourselves, and we would all definitely attend more of Wiz Khalifa's tour!
originally had lawn seats, but due to a massive downpour we were upgraded to amazing seats, for a better view. Had to say I was surprised at how much Wiz had bulked up since last year. I loved all the songs, and he hit all the favourites. I could have listened for another hour, as he has so many great songs. Wiz seemed a little more mellow this year with his stage moves, compared with other years. Will definitely come back for next years' concert!!! Maybe with weed being legal next year he can have some kk sold as well as tshirts :)
Spent $350 on Platinum seats. General admission standing area got better views and some even went on stage. They were $85 tickets. I should've had a better experience. I bought these tickets in March as soon as they went on sale as a surprise for my girlfriend who's a huge fan. Also French Montana just got on stage and yelled "Heeeeeehhhhaaa" on top of every one of his pre-recorded songs. The violinist's mic feed was cut and the same with the drummer.
Would not recommend 1/5 stars.
I lost my friends and as I went to the front of the lawn to find them wiz cam out there on a platform and it was cool as fuck except for the fact that it turned into a mosh pit and I got thrown to the ground 3 times and my shoes got ripped off my feet. I spent the next two hours walking around blossom without shoes, but it's cool
Wiz is one of the most exciting rap artists in the world. He been producing my favorite hip hop song ever. everthing from "Black and Yellow" to "See You Again." Also, last time I went to his concert I bought my apparel from www.albumapparel.com. They are a small startup, check them out if you are thinking about buying Album Ts.
The show was not even a show. We waited for hours for him to get the mic. Then he did 2 songs at 1:50am, and was done. Didn't leave, but just didn't feel the need to perform anymore songs. I get that it's a club, and not a concert, but I've been to club performances before, and this was by far the most disappointing.

Wiz Khalifa
Rapper Wiz Khalifa is known for such songs as "Say Yeah," "Black and Yellow" and "See You Again."
Who Is Wiz Khalifa?
Early life and career.
Wiz Khalifa was born Cameron Jibril Thomaz on September 8, 1987 in Minot, North Dakota. He moved around a lot as a kid because his father was in the military. At an early age, Khalifa discovered his love for making music. He started writing lyrics around the age of nine and began recording his own tracks a few years later.
Spending his high school years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Khalifa attracted a local following as an artist. Soon he was garnering national attention with his 2006 mixtape Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania . The following year, Khalifa had his first hit rap single with “Say Yeah.” He also released more mixtapes, including Grow Season (2007) and How Fly (2009) with Curren$y, around this time.
'Rolling Papers'
Khalifa’s career reached new heights with his ode to the Pittsburgh Steelers, his hometown team, with 2010’s “Black and Yellow.” He also made headlines for his arrest on drug-related charges. Approximately 60 grams of marijuana was found on his tour bus while he was in North Carolina for a concert.
While his team didn’t win the Super Bowl, Khalifa made it to the top of the charts with the song in 2011. “Black and Yellow” was featured on his Rolling Papers record, which climbed to the number two spot on the album charts. The album also included a bonus track, “Taylor Gang,” which is the nickname of his fans. Reportedly the name comes from the Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers that Khalifa is famous for wearing.
'O.N.I.F.C.'
In 2012 Wiz Khalifa teamed up with Snoop Dogg for the comedic film Mac and Devin Go to High School . His next album, O.N.I.F.C. (2012), featured such singles as “Word Hard, Play Hard” and “Remember You.” Khalifa worked with a number of other rappers on the record, including Juicy J and Pharrell Williams . He also launched his own concert series called the Under the Influence of Music tour. As a guest artist, Khalifa had another hit with Maroon 5 on their song “Payphone.”
'Blacc Hollywood'
In 2014 Wiz Khalifa released Blacc Hollywood . The album featured such tracks as “We Dem Boyz.” Guest artists on this song included Rick Ross and Nas . He also collaborated with Raw Rolling Papers on a line of smoking-related products. Khalifa reached the top of the charts again in 2015 with his collaboration with Charlie Puth entitled “See You Again.” The ballad, a tribute to late actor Paul Walker , appeared on Furious 7 soundtrack and was nominated for several Grammy Awards.
Personal Life
Khalifa was married to model Amber Rose. They had one child together, son Sebastian, before divorcing in 2014.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Wiz Khalifa
Photo: Jack Fordyce / Shutterstock.com
Wiz Khalifa is a famous American rapper and songwriter. On September 8, 1987, he was born in Minot, North Dakota, to a military family. He spent the early part of his childhood living around the world, including Germany and South Carolina. When he was seven years old, he moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
His debut studio album “Show and Prove” was released in 2006, under Rostrum Records. The album saw little success outside of the Pittsburgh area, but Wiz continued to release mixtapes at a prolific rate. One of Wiz’s most successful singles was “Black and Yellow,” released in 2010. “Black and Yellow” hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Wiz only the fourth rapper ever to do so with a debut entry on that chart.
There is more to know about your favorite artist; keep reading to know 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Wiz Khalifa:
#1 – Wiz Khalifa Isn’t His Real Name:
Wiz Khalifa is his stage name. His original name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz; his first name is Kameron, which means “perfect warrior.”
#2 -He Knew as a Kid that He Would Cover His Body in Tattoos:
Growing up, Wiz fell in love with tattoos and the art of tattooing. It wasn’t until he was sixteen years old when he got his first tattoo. At 19 years old, Wiz began to cover almost every inch of his body with different tattoos, including a star on both sides of each ankle and a portrait on one leg of American Singer Johnny Cash. After receiving so many compliments from people who have seen him covered head-to-toe in tattoos, he didn’t want to stop there and continues to transform his body into a work of art – only now, with more than 100 tattoos.
#3 – His Mom Took Him to Get His First Tattoo:
When Wiz was 15 years old, he went with his mom to get his first tattoo, and it was a small skull on his shoulder. He didn’t understand the pain of getting a tattoo at that time because he had never felt anything like it before. He didn’t know if he could go through with it; however, after only breaking out in a couple of sweats and handling it pretty well, Wiz began to feel no pain and even give suggestions about what design or location would look good for the next tattoo which came shortly after another portrait of Johnny Cash on one arm along with designs all up and down both arms.
#4 – He Willingly Walked Out of a Record Deal:
After Wiz Khalifa released his mixtape “Show and Proved” in 2005, many record labels began to notice him. After meeting with several labels, including Warner Bros., Atlantic Records, and Rostrum Records (owned by Benjy Grinberg), he decided to sign with the latter label for $1 million. However, after only one album under that contract, he felt like it was no longer beneficial because the large amount of money that he had been given wasn’t doing anything for him; instead, they were taking advantage of him and pushing poor singles onto radio stations threatening to cancel the deal altogether if he didn’t go along with what they wanted. Luckily though, they let him out of his contract, and he now holds the record for being their youngest artist ever to be dropped from a major label.
#5 -His Mom Supported His Pot Habit:
Wiz Khalifa’s mom knew that her son was smoking weed from a pretty young age but allowed him to continue with his habit as long as he continued going to school and got good grades. Wiz would go on the road more often than not and try to balance going to school and staying involved in his music career. In 2009, Wiz checked into rehab for marijuana addiction, and following his release, he moved back to Pittsburgh and lived with his mother. This was when Wiz began writing songs for a new album, including “Black & Yellow,” which remains at the number 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 as of January 11, 2011.
#6 -He Spends a Lot on Weed Alone:
Wiz Khalifa spends a lot of money on weed alone. In an interview with The Breakfast Club from Power 105.1, he stated that he spends about $10,000 a month on weed alone since some months are heavier than others. Although some may think that this is too much money to be spending monthly on an illegal substance, Wiz brings up a good point it’s not going towards hurting anyone or anything like that. Instead, he is using his money to support something that he enjoys doing, which helps him relax, instead of going out and buying alcohol or other substances that may negatively alter his mental state.
#7 -He Has a Tattoo of His Stage Name:
As mentioned earlier, Wiz Khalifa began getting tattoos at the age of sixteen years old. This includes his first tattoo, which was only about an inch tall and located on one shoulder before he moved onto, covering almost every inch of both arms with different images from Johnny Cash to portraits of rappers, including Tupac Shakur. One particular tattoo caught my attention a tattoo reading “Wiz” on his right bicep underneath three stars – this is his stage name which he has tattooed to memorialize it.
#8 -He Moved a Lot:
Wiz Khalifa was born in Minot, North Dakota, for about three years before moving to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. But Wiz’s journey doesn’t stop there. Wiz traveled around the world and spent time at different high schools throughout Pittsburgh, including Taylor Allderdice High School, where he later dropped out after only one semester because college wasn’t challenging enough. He has lived in countries like Germany, United Kingdom, and Japan because his parents served in the military. He began making music from home and releasing mixtapes which led him to meet people interested in working with him, most notably Benjy Grinberg, whose imprint signed Wiz Khalifa at age seventeen.
#9 -He is an Avid Supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers:
If Wiz Khalifa isn’t enough, he’s also a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team – something that seems quite strange because most celebrities are fans of either the New York Yankees or the New York Giants. But Wiz is loyal to his hometown and roots; not only would he play songs during games for them, but he would be invited to come onto the field after they won (he’s even met, Bill Cowher). He’s currently working on new music, which should include some collaboration with Snoop Dogg (featured in “Black & Yellow”), including another song named “Mr. Wrong” featuring French Montana. As for collaborations with artists outside of the rap scene, he plans on working with Katy Perry and Bruno Mars in the future.
#10 -Wiz Khalifa doesn’t eat pork:
Wiz has publicly stated that he does not eat pork because of religious beliefs. He has also been seen in photos wearing the Islamic star and crescent symbol around his neck at concerts and appearances.
Conclusion:
Wiz Khalifa’s influence on the rap game is undeniable. He has been nominated for and won several awards, including three Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and one BET Award. His popularity continues to grow as he releases new music every year and performs at sold-out concerts all across the country.

Wiz Khalifa is going strong in 2023. After releasing visuals to his latest singles, the 35-year-old artist revealed he is going on tour and bringing a few people along too. Last night (March 2), the Pittsburgh native announced “The Good Trip Tour” featuring him, Joey Bada$$, Berner, Smoke DZA, and Chevy Woods. Shilsy Bubz will host the event. The week-long journey starts on April 15 at the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan and wraps up on April 22 at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado.
Along with purchasing tickets, fans can snatch up one of the tour’s four VIP experiences. Sitting atop the poster board is the Super Smokers Experience, which gets an attendee one premium event ticket, a meet and greet and photo opportunity with Khalifa and Berner, access to the Smokers Club Lounge, VIP entry to the venue, a behind-the-scenes tour guide, a premium merch package, and a signed polaroid picture with the “Roll Up” rapper and Berner.
On Wednesday (March 1), Khalifa dropped a new visual to his single “ Little Do They Know ,” produced by Quadwoofer Bangz. In the clip, the talented artist is at work during the NBA All-Star Weekend in Utah. Afterward, he boarded a jet. He then transitioned to celebrating his son Sebastian Taylor Thomaz’s birthday. As mentioned before, the “Black and Yellow” songwriter has been busy. On the same day as his latest visual, Khalifa partnered with fellow rapper Snoop Dogg for the Ty Dolla $ign-produced track “Don’t Text Don’t Call.” The pair initially released the song in 2022 on the NFT project An 8th.

For one night, our community of educators, corporate sponsors, industry partners, and everyone who believes in the power of music will come together for an amazing celebration of music, and all proceeds will support Music Will’s programs for students and teachers across the country. With rich, universal stories for all audiences, we couldn’t think of a better partner to invest in as we grow our portfolio.”

“I could not be more excited to sign with The Familie as my new management team,” said Smith. “I believe their approach and vision to managing an artist is exactly what I need for my career and I am so excited to get to work. + Top composer agents Michael Gorfaine and Sam Schwartz were honored for their long careers by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) Saturday night at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
The success of LACO, said executive director Ben Cadwallader, was “directly connected to the health and vitality of film and TV scoring right here in Hollywood,” as many LACO musicians are able to continue playing classical music because of their “day jobs” playing movie music. The honor was dubbed the LACO Hollywood Ally Award.
The Gorfaine-Schwartz Agency, created in 1982, represents many of the top composers in the field, several of whom attended Saturday’s event: John Williams, James Newton Howard, Thomas Newman, Mike Post, Alan Silvestri, Brian Tyler, Harry Gregson-Williams, John Debney, Steve Jablonsky, Sean Callery, Glen Ballard and Theodore Shapiro, among others. Numerous top studio music executives also attended.
LACO musicians performed music by Mozart, Vivaldi and Bartok. Also honored were philanthropists Shaheen and Anil Nanji. A record $1 million was raised for the chamber orchestra at the gala fundraiser.
