We offer many different cruise types - full circuit loops (starting and ending at same location), destination trips (point A to B), scenic drives, collaboration cruises with other car clubs, and the always fun "sporty" drives.

It takes a couple months to create and organize our annual Spring and Fall cruises... if you are interested in helping organize a new cruise or have any new cruise location ideas- we always welcome the support!

Woodward Dream Cruise 2024

Woodward Dream Cruise Parking: The official Woodward Avenue Dram Cruise route is a 16-mile radius and runs through nine participating communities. Parking is both ample and scarce, depending on when or where you are located. The following is parking information relative to municipal parking lots only, and nearest to Woodward Avenue:

City of Berkley: The community primary events are located downtown with municipal parking available. There are no public parking areas near Woodward. Parking is allowed on side streets adjoining Woodward. Overnight parking is not permitted. For details: www.berkleymich.org

City of Birmingham: All activities are within walking distance of the city’s five parking decks, where the first two hours of parking are free. For details: www.birminghamcruiseevent.com .

Bloomfield Township: Spectator parking near the car show is at 36700 Woodward for $5.

City of Ferndale: The municipal parking lots are metered, surrounding downtown Ferndale at Woodward and Nine Mile Rd. For details: www.parkferndale.com

Huntington Woods: Parking areas on Woodward have been leased by car clubs or reserved for city residents’ activities. There are no public parking areas near Woodward.

Pleasant Ridge: Parking is allowed on side streets adjoining Woodward but get  there early to find a space. Overnight parking is not permitted. There are no public parking areas near Woodward.

We followed 2 other people that we knew one being one of our car members to the Woodward cruise. When we got there on Friday we parked right along Woodward and watched all of the cars drive by and when it got darker it really got busy. We turned on LED’s in our engine bay and everyone that drove by loved the lights in our engine bay. When 10pm came the police cleared everyone out that was on Woodward We had a fun time on Friday. Saturday came we were invited to join the Detroit Motor City Camaro Club to join them for the day in Memorial Park which was right by Woodward. Boy, we hit the jackpot! We were treated like royalty because they gave us free breakfast and free lunch also. All the pop and water we can drink all day. The weather was awesome too! There were many GM cars there in the park and it was invite-only. They asked us to come back again next year. We had a great time! We will be coming back again next year

The Chevy Malibu Was So Uncool It Was Cool

An unassuming car had a surprisingly large cultural footprint.

If you asked a child to draw a car, the result would probably be something that looked like the Chevrolet Malibu .

For decades, this dependable midsize vehicle was a stalwart of the American road. Because that kind of thing is no longer in demand, it came as no surprise when General Motors announced on Wednesday that it would discontinue the model as it shifts its focus to sport utility vehicles and electric cars.

The Malibu never had the back-alley glamour of the Chevrolet Camaro or the brute force of the Chevrolet Impala. It was the ultimate normcore-mobile, made for a time when Americans were content to drive simple, gas-powered sedans, rather than rugged S.U.V.s, high-riding pickup trucks or electric vehicles that cruise along in near silence.

The Malibu originally appeared in the 1960s as part of Chevrolet’s Chevelle line. It was a consistent seller through the 1970s. For a time, it was used as a patrol car by police departments across the country. General Motors took it off the market in 1983 and brought it back in 1997.

Upon its return, the critics were not exactly kind. “Ah, Malibu,” Car and Driver magazine wrote in a 1997 review. “The word evokes images of surf bunnies, movie stars and languid decadence by the sea. Not the sort of vision that comes to mind on first sight of this new Chevrolet sedan. Maybe Chevy misspelled it. Mall ibu sounds more like it.”

But the very basicness of the Malibu was what made it so appealing to the more than 10 million people who bought one. And perhaps surprisingly for a vehicle so unassuming, it had a large cultural footprint. Again and again, filmmakers and songwriters created scenarios centered on the Malibu that seemed to comment on its plainness.

A customized version of a gray 1973 Malibu Coupe is the main vehicle for the protagonist of the moodily violent 2011 action film “Drive,” according to the automotive publications SlashGear and Car & Classic. Ryan Gosling, the film’s star, is said to have found the car in a junkyard and worked on it himself.

The Malibu was the right vehicle for a new kind of antihero. Mr. Gosling’s nameless character, a stunt driver for movies who works as a getaway driver on the side, is mild and taciturn. Like his prized Chevy, he is not a show-off.

Seventeen years before “Drive,” the director Quentin Tarantino gave a Malibu a key supporting role in “Pulp Fiction.”

Vincent Vega, the good-natured hit man played by John Travolta, is behind the wheel of a red 1964 Malibu when he takes his boss’s wife, played by Uma Thurman, on a date that goes horribly awry. Like the 1950s-style restaurant where they form a bond, the vintage Malibu harks back to an idealized America that is just a fantasy for these two characters, given how deeply they are mixed up in a life of drugs and murder.

A Malibu is a focal point of the 1984 cult film “Repo Man.” Like other filmmakers, the writer and director Alex Cox played against the car’s blandness. In the trunk of this unremarkable car is something remarkable indeed — perhaps a nuclear bomb. (Whatever is in the trunk is never explained.)

More recently, Lana Del Rey, who often comments on all-American tropes in her modern-day torch ballads, name-checks the Malibu in “Shades of Cool,” a 2014 song about a woman’s love for a tragic sort who seems lost in a haze of substance abuse and self-absorption.

Like Vincent Vega and the unnamed loner in “Drive,” the unreachable fellow in her song has only one thing that seems to bind him to the workaday world: “He drives a Chevy Malibu,” she sings.

But the car was used to best effect in Cameron Crowe’s 1989 romantic comedy-drama “Say Anything.”

The protagonist, Lloyd Dobler, an underachieving Everyman played by John Cusack, drives a 1977 Malibu sedan. The car sets him apart from the strutting yuppies of other 1980s films — think of the teenage cad played by James Spader in “Pretty in Pink,” who has his own Porsche, or the stockbroker played by Charlie Sheen in “Wall Street,” who drives a BMW.

Dobler embodies the slacker ethos that typified much of Generation X. When he is grilled by the father of the girl he loves, he explains that his main goal is to spend as much time with her as he can. When he is asked how he plans to make a living, he says, “I don’t want to sell anything, buy anything or process anything as a career.”

For this kind of guy — proudly unambitious, except when it comes to love — the unflashy Malibu was the perfect car.

89 iroc, broken cruise control

i am a new owner of an 89 iroc with the L98 engine; this car is essentially in show condition, but the cruise control does not work. the car is totally stock and hasn't been micky-moused or hacked at all with anything aftermarket. can anyone give me any suggestions on diagnosing which component might be broken? i'm decent when it comes to electrical work and using an ohm/voltmeter, but i've no clue where to start testing. thanks in advance for any help you can offer in pointing me in a direction.  

I seen these with a vacuum line through the firewall to the brake pedal switch. Check this vacuum line close. Check fuse?  

Believe it or not most cruise controls are wired into the brake lights at one point or another. Something as simple as a light out to include the third brake light will render the cruise inop. Easy place to start. I know on my wife's '94 I got a ABS light and no cruise when my third brake light bulb burned out. Good luck. John  

Check to make sure that it is mechanically connected to the throttle linkage. Someone might not of re-connected it after a previous repair. This would be step one.

The Dark Horse is the most powerful Mustang you can buy in 2024

The Ford Mustang just turned 60, making it not only the original American Pony Car and oldest American Pony Car, but also the last-standing American Pony Car (we’ll miss you Camaro and Challenger…). If that’s not enough distinction for you, Ford’s Mustang is also among the few cars available in 2024 with a large-displacement, naturally-aspirated V8 engine. Why is that a big deal? In the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, we’re talking Ford’s 5.0-liter Coyote engine, an aluminum block, aluminum head V8 with dual overhead cams and, in Dark Horse trim, offering 500 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque. Ford says this V8, working through either a Tremec 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic, can get the Dark Horse to 60 mph in around 4 seconds and through the quarter-mile in about 12 and 1/2 seconds. Those numbers sync with my internal accelerometer, which enjoyed the V8’s combination of broad torque and pronounced exhaust note.

Complementing the Dark Horse’s powerful V8 is an upgraded suspension with larger sway bars, retuned springs, upgraded dampers, and Ford’s MagneRide active suspension. This suspension technology varies the Mustang’s ride quality and handling traits based on driver mode settings that include Slippery, Normal, Sport, Track, and Drag. Those modes also change throttle response, transmission behavior, and exhaust tone, the latter of which has four specific settings, ranging from Quiet to Track, that can either synchronize with the drive modes or be adjusted separately.

The Mustang Dark Horse also comes standard with 19-inch wheels wearing Pirelli PZero performance tires, and it benefits from the same revised power steering system and quicker steering ratio all Mustangs received this year. Powered by Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment system, the new Mustang includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with higher trims, like the GT and our Dark Horse test car, featuring wireless smartphone charging. The touchscreen includes My Mustang vehicle settings, where performance features like line lock (for heating up the rear tires before a race) and drift brake (a stability control setting to assist with drifting) can be accessed. Ford has removed the hard buttons for climate control, replacing them with dedicated virtual controls at the bottom of the touchscreen.

The large screens, performance driving features, and advanced driver assist systems that include adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, give the Mustang a modern feel even as the V8’s torque and aggressive rumble keep its traditional soul intact. That was the balance Ford wanted in this seventh generation Mustang, and we think they hit their target. We did encounter a couple glitches with Sync 4, including a brief drop in wireless connection to our iPhone 15, followed by a reconnect that had the music only coming out of one speaker. A forced disconnect/reconnect fixed it.

Our only other question relates to the Mustang’s platform, which like the rest of the car was revised for 2024 but is essentially the same chassis from its 2015 redesign. In a market that appears to love SUVs and hate cars, we recognize the limited budget Ford allots for Mustang development. The engineering team made the most of their spend, creating a performance car in the Dark Horse with more-than-sufficient performance and a healthy injection of new technology.

Well take that over killing a classic nameplate any day (looking at you Chevy and Dodge…). But 10 years is a long time in the car world, and 3,800-plus pounds is a lot of weight in the performance car world. The Mustang Dark Horse’s starting price is over $60,000, and it can cross $70,000 with options. That makes it $20,000 more than a Toyota Supra, and approximately the same cost as a Porsche Cayman, two cars with a 500-pound advantage on the Mustang. An advantage you can feel from the driver’s seat.

With only one V8-powered American performance coupe to choose from Ford has cornered the market by simply maintaining Mustang production. The car’s unique proposition in 2024 will be enough to at least match the 50,000 Mustangs Ford sold in 2023, and probably a good chunk more, with some Challenger and Camaro buyers joining in. If that keeps the Mustang around for another 10 years, we’ll take it.

But, hopefully, the next decade will see an all-new, far more advanced Ford Mustang released from Ford’s product barn. A Mustang that takes advantage of the latest lightweight materials and advanced structural design techniques necessary to drop 500-plus pounds, making it a proper Porsche killer versus a heavy beast trying to bend physics with mechanical sleight of hand.

And, of course, this future Mustang will (hopefully!) still have a naturally-aspirated V8 engine under the hood.
