Why Hawaii is a dream honeymoon destination

Hawaii, with its stunning natural beauty, rich culture, and romantic ambiance, is a dream honeymoon destination for countless couples. The archipelago boasts an array of picturesque landscapes, including pristine beaches, lush rainforests, and volcanic terrain, providing the perfect backdrop for romance and adventure. The warm tropical climate, coupled with the welcoming spirit of aloha, sets the stage for an unforgettable honeymoon experience.

The islands of Hawaii offer diverse opportunities for couples to create lasting memories, whether it's strolling hand in hand along the shoreline at sunset, exploring vibrant marine life while snorkeling, or indulging in a romantic dinner with a backdrop of swaying palm trees. The allure of Hawaii lies in its ability to cater to a variety of honeymoon preferences, from serene relaxation to thrilling exploration, making it an ideal choice for couples seeking a versatile and enchanting getaway.

Moreover, Hawaii's cultural richness adds an extra layer of depth to the honeymoon experience, with opportunities to partake in traditional Hawaiian ceremonies, witness captivating hula performances, and savor authentic island cuisine. The blend of natural beauty and cultural immersion makes Hawaii a top choice for couples seeking a truly unforgettable honeymoon.

Choosing the perfect time to visit Hawaii

Selecting the ideal time for your dream honeymoon in Hawaii is crucial to ensure that you experience the islands at their best. Hawaii enjoys warm, tropical weather year-round, making it a desirable destination regardless of the season. However, understanding the nuances of each season can help you tailor your honeymoon experience to align with your preferences and expectations.

The summer months, from June to August, offer long, sunny days and calm ocean conditions, making it an ideal time for water activities such as snorkeling, surfing, and sunset cruises. Additionally, these months coincide with the peak of humpback whale season, presenting an opportunity for couples to embark on mesmerizing whale-watching excursions.

On the other hand, the winter months, from December to February, bring larger swells and the renowned big wave surfing season, attracting thrill-seeking couples looking to witness the power of the ocean. The winter season also offers a chance to witness the awe-inspiring migration of humpback whales as they journey to Hawaii's warm waters to breed and give birth.

For those seeking a balance between favorable weather and reduced crowds, the spring and fall seasons present an excellent compromise. The shoulder seasons offer pleasant temperatures, fewer tourists, and the opportunity to witness the vibrant blossoming of tropical flora across the islands.

Selecting the best Hawaiian islands for your dream honeymoon

Hawaii comprises several distinct islands, each with its own unique allure and characteristics, allowing couples to tailor their honeymoon experience to match their preferences. Understanding the key features of each island can aid in selecting the perfect destination for your dream honeymoon.

Couples can visit historic sites such as Pearl Harbor, hike to the summit of Diamond Head for panoramic views, or immerse themselves in the local culture at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Oahu's diverse offerings cater to couples desiring a mix of relaxation, exploration, and cultural immersion.

Kauai: Referred to as the "Garden Isle," Kauai is renowned for its lush, emerald landscapes, dramatic cliffs, and cascading waterfalls. Couples can embark on a romantic helicopter tour to witness the island's awe-inspiring natural wonders, hike through the enchanting Na Pali Coast, or indulge in a serene riverboat cruise along the Wailua River. Kauai's serene beauty and intimate ambiance make it an ideal choice for couples seeking a tranquil and romantic escape.

Hawaii Island (The Big Island): As the largest and most diverse of the Hawaiian islands, the Big Island offers an array of experiences, from exploring active volcanoes in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park to stargazing atop Mauna Kea. Opt for All-Inclusive Packages: There is an excellent Hawaii Cruise package that encompass accommodations, meals, and activities. Opting for an all-inclusive package can provide cost-effective convenience and predictability, allowing you to enjoy a variety of experiences without constantly monitoring expenses. Hawaii vacation package and honeymoon travel experts

The Islands of Hawaii are home to the hula, surfing, active volcanoes, Waikiki Beach, luaus and the Aloha Spirit.  Hawaii has been voted the #1 honeymoon destination for years and is an excellent choice for a family vacation .  Hawaii is also a favorite for island and destination weddings and the experts at Totem travel can help with them all!

The weather in Hawaii is good year ‘round with highs between 75 & 88 degrees April through November.  The winter months of December through March can be cooler and rainfall is more frequent.  Non stop flights from the west coast make the Hawaiian islands a convenient tropical destination and no passport is required because this exotic getaway is in the good ol’ USA!

Oahu is the most populated island in Hawaii and nicknamed “The Gathering Place”.  This is where you’ll find Honolulu , world famous Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head.  Favorite activities include the Polynesian Cultural Center, snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor, watching surfers at the North Shore, a hula performance, luau, the dolphins at Sea Life Park and Waikiki Aquarium.

Unlike some of the sleepier Hawaiian islands, nightlife abounds on Oahu and Honolulu is a bustle of activity day and night.  A rental car is optional as the airport is conveniently served by shuttle and most sights are accessible by day tour.

Most accommodations are near Waikiki Beach and some of our favorite resorts include the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Outrigger Reef on the Beach and Outrigger Regency.

Maui is often voted one of the top islands in the world and is a favorite for family vacations, honeymoons and adventures because there is something on Maui for everyone!

The island boasts 81 beaches including Kaanapali, Kapalua, Makena and Napili.  Molokini and Black Rock offer outstanding snorkeling and diving.  The Maui Ocean Center has a 750,000 gallon aquarium filled with manta rays, sharks and sea creatures and Humpback whales are spotted offshore from mid December to mid May.

Sightseers enjoy Haleakala Crater, Iao Valley plus the famous “Road to Hana” and seven sacred pools. The Old Lahaina Luau offers an excellent overview of Polynesian culture, food and dance.  Golfers enjoy championship courses and spa enthusiasts have a wealth of indulgent choices. Shopping, restaurants and entertainment are plentiful in Lahaina, Whalers Village, Kihei and Wailea.

Accommodations on Maui are equally diverse with opulent resorts, family friendly condos and villas on the golf course.  Favorites include Resort Quest Kaanapali Villas, Hyatt Regency and the Sheraton Maui.  A rental car is strongly recommended to enjoy the island sights and activities.

Kauai is known as “The Garden Isle ” and is the northernmost island in the Hawaiian chain.  This is the island for spectacular helicopter flights, hiking in Waimea Canyon, kayaking along the rugged Napali Coast and enjoying lush greenery and tropical flowers of every color imaginable.

Poipu is the sunniest part of the island and where many vacationers choose to locate, but a rental car is recommended to explore the island and enjoy its natural attributes.  Kauai accommodations include a wide range of condos as well as moderate and deluxe resorts.  Our favorite condo is Poipu Kai and we particualrly like the Hyatt Resort.

The Big Island of Hawaii is bigger than all the other Hawaiian Islands combined.  The Big Island is famous for Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, stargazing at Mauna Kea, spectacular golf and wonderful Hapuna Beach.

The diversity is tremendous, because on this island alone you’ll find 11 of the world’s 13 climatic zones!  In fact, on a single day you can soak up the sun on the beach, snow ski atop Mauna Kea and watch Hawaiian cowboys called “paniolo” round up the herd on Parker Ranch.   Some of our favorite resorts on the Big Island include the Fairmont Orchid, Mauna Lani and Hilton Waikoloa.

Throughout Hawaii there are many resorts, villas and condominiums in a wide range of prices and styles.  You can browse honeymoon packages, request a quote , get more information online, read resort reviews and get travel tips on our blog  or call Sandi our Hawaii specialist for the best packages and prices available.  You’ll  get personalized help from a travel expert at no extra cost !

East meets West at “The Gathering Place.” Oahu is the third largest Hawaiian island and the capitol of Hawaii. About two-thirds of Hawaii’s diverse population call Oahu home, creating a multicultural tapestry rooted in the values and traditions of the Native Hawaiian people. On Oahu you can experience metropolitan amenities in Honolulu and famous Waikiki Beach, and explore the timeless history of Pearl Harbor’s memorials and the architecture of Iolani Palace.

A surfer and traveler’s paradise, Oahu is known for epic waves and the best nightlife of all the islands. In Honolulu, sample craft breweries and fine dining by night, and world-class shopping and cultural events by day. Then after a breathtaking hike atop Leahi (Diamond Head), head to the North Shore to explore historic Haleiwa Town, pineapple fields, waterfalls and snorkeling. After all that adventure, don’t forget to unwind on the sands of the island’s beautiful beaches! Bringing together culture, luxury, and scenic beauty, Oahu definitely earns its nickname of “The Gathering Place.”

Volcanoes and history come alive on the “Big Island.” From the active volcanoes to the snow-capped heights of Maunakea; from rainforests at Hamakua Coast to jet-black sands of Punaluu Beach, Hawaii Island presents nature’s beauty and force on a dramatic scale.

To avoid confusion with the name of the state, the Island of Hawaii is often called the “Big Island,” and it is well-named! Nearly twice as big as all other Hawaiian Islands combined, its size and scope creates a microcosm of environments and activities, including lava viewing, stargazing, diving and snorkeling, and hiking in Volcano National Park. And don’t forget the white, green, and black sand beaches!

In addition to the natural variety, you’ll also find extravagant resorts, incredible golf courses, charming local towns and sacred Hawaiian historical sites, including the birthplace of King Kamehameha I and Hawaii’s first missionary church in Historic Kailua Village (Kailua-Kona). With all that Hawaii Island has offer, you’ll want to come back again and again.

Discover world-famous beaches and more on the “Best Island.” It won’t take you long to discover why Maui has been voted “Best Island” by readers of Conde Nast Traveler for over twenty years. Maybe you’ll fall in love with the unforgettable beaches at Kaanapali and Makena, or the splendor and mana (power) of Haleakala National Park. Perhaps the championship golf courses and the arts and culture of Kahului and Upcountry Maui will steal your heart. If not, the incredible food, culture, and island adventures certainly will.

On Maui, you can see migrating humpback whales and sunset luaus, take mermaid swim lessons, and explore the scenic road to Hana. You can indulge in exotic farm-to-table dining or grab a “plate lunch” and a shave ice like a local. Whatever you choose, your vacation on the “Valley Isle” is sure to be unforgettable. Maui earns the name best island by delivering the full Hawaiian experience to people of all ages.

Explore scenic splendor and the great outdoors on the “Garden Isle.” The oldest and northernmost island in the Hawaiian chain, Kauai is a portrait of time and nature’s elements. Known as the “Garden Isle,” on Kauai, you will find lush green valleys at the feet of steep mountains, tropical rainforests fed by beautiful rivers, and dramatic waterfalls spilling over jagged cliffs. It’s also the least developed island—many areas are only accessible by sea, air or foot.

Kauai is Hawaii’s fourth largest island and in addition to its dramatic beauty, this island is known for a wide variety of outdoor activities. You can kayak or paddleboard the Wailua River or snorkel on Poipu Beach or below the soaring cliffs of the Napali Coast. You can hike miles of trails of Kokee State Park or explore the Waimea Canyon area—Hawaii’s own Grand Canyon. Even go ziplining or tour the island by helicopter! Or if you prefer your adventures closer to earth, you can explore some of Kauai’s 60 beaches—from family friendly tide pools to tranquil white sand hidden gems. More than just an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise, Kauai is also beloved for the rich culture found in its small towns and along its one-lane bridges. Make your escape to Kauai and discover all the splendor and allure that the Garden Isle has to offer.

Find peace, tranquility and a true getaway on Lanai. Away from the crowds and hustle of everyday life, Lanai is a destination of untouched tranquility—a place for rest, relaxation, and exploration. Though it’s less than ten miles from Maui, with less than 30 miles of paved road and not a single stop light, Lanai, Hawaii’s smallest inhabited island, can seem like a different world.

Lanai is best known for its two exquisite Four Seasons resorts and championship-level golf courses at The Challenge at Manele and The Experience at Koele. But luxury Lanai isn’t just for golfers!—wellness enthusiasts will find world-class amenities and foodies can enjoy peerless dining options at nearly a dozen hotel eateries.

And if your idea of a rejuvenating getaway involves seclusion and natural beauty, Hawaii’s “most enticing island” has plenty to offer. Keep your eyes open for dolphins at Hulopoe Bay, or go whale watching. You can explore the back-roads and red spires of Keahiakawelo (Garden of the Gods) by 4-wheel, or see the pine tree-lined trails by horseback. You can hike up to Sweetheart Rock or take a guided tour of the island petroglyphs. While Lanai’s romantic elegance and peaceful seclusion aren’t for every traveler, that is exactly why some consider this island getaway to be a true paradise.

In addition, we are annual pass holders at multiple theme parks, and I love booking trips to Disney and Universal! While I started exclusively as a Hawaii Travel Agent, over the past few years, my business has expanded, and I book trips to many other destinations from Europe to the Maldives and beyond!

No matter what kind of trip you’re looking for, fill out my form! If I feel like another advisor would be a better fit for your specific trip, I can give you their information.

Travel Planning fees

To provide the best service for my clients, I am selective about how many clients I will take on monthly in 2024. I charge the following travel planning fee for Hawaii vacations:

  • $250 for honeymoons and families in Hawaii
  • Starting at $500 for large (multi-family) groups and destination weddings in Hawaii, depending on complexity. All guests can book through me with this fee at no additional cost. If it is all-inclusive (outside of Hawaii), this fee will be lowered or waived.
  • $50 for Disney, Universal, and cruises.
  • Fees will be entirely waived or lowered for simple, all-inclusive vacations where you have a good idea of where you want to go (IE, Sandals Resorts). Please fill out the form to give me more info, and I will let you know.

If you plan a Sandals honeymoon or Sandals vacation and know exactly what you want, you can check out my Sandals website to get started. Or you can fill out the form if you have any questions!

*Please keep in mind I do not work with clients for Hawaii with a budget of less than $5,000 for two people for one week. If your budget is less than this, I recommend reading how much does it cost to go to Hawaii?*

For brands looking to collaborate, please also reach out via the contact form. Again, I am very selective with whom I work with, but would love to hear from you!

We used Travel To Paradise for our trip to Hawaii. Meg was incredible! She stayed in contact with me and really helped me navigate changing our dates/flights/plans during Covid. It was a stressful time with the uncertainty of travel but Meg kept us up to date and helped every step of the way, she really put us at ease. Meg is such a sweet, personable, helpful person! She helped to take a lot of stress off my shoulders when we booked our very first Hawaiian vacation. She gave me multiple options to choose from and was very accommodating. She contacted the rental car company for us when I had a question about it. I plan on making another trip to Hawaii in the near future and will definitely be contacting Meg. So nice to have someone who lives IN Hawaii, help plan the perfect trip of a lifetime! You cannot go wrong with Meg!

Aloha fellow travelers,

I wanted to personally let you know about the amazing and outstanding travel planning services of Meg Nichols, from Travel to Paradise. I know a lot of people try to book their travel themselves these days...but think again...using Meg to help us personally plan and book our Hawaiian Family Adventure was the best decision we made. When I first contacted her, Meg was super fast in her reply. She listened to what my family's unique needs and wants were for our Hawaiian vacation. She put together a SPOT ON itinerary at an amazing price.

We can't wait to get back to Hawaii! What an absolutely AMAZING adventure. Thank you Meg.

Meg also recommended a separate person to book all our activities (Zipline, ATV, Snorkel, Luau etc) . She was wonderful too.

Booking with Meg, at Travel to Paradise, literally helped my family enjoy paradise without a single worry or concern. Every hotel was prepared for us. Every flight, island transfer, rental car and hotel check- in was about as easy as it gets. My husband and I have traveled all over the world, from French Polynesia to Africa and back...and Meg's personal touch, with ****EXTRA Birthday SURPRISES for me, just added a cherry on top of our amazing Hawaiian Family Adventure.

Let Meg help you plan and book your trip. You will not regret it. She is on top of everything, knows details only locals know, checks in with you repeatedly, and can get you great deals.

I highly recommend Travel to Paradise! Working with Paula was a great experience! She’s knowledgeable, patient, honest and has the sweetest personality. I celebrated my birthday in Maui and she was a tremendous help with helping me organize, plan and book everything. She’s super easy to work with, and gives the best recommendations and travel advice. Contact her for your next trip to Hawaii, you’ll be so glad you did!!

Rochelle, Mesa, AZ

I've delayed writing you this email because it means our trip is officially over. I'm not even sure how to express our gratitude for your guidance (and patience) with us while booking this trip.

Our trip was a dream - waking up to the sounds of waves (and roosters), enjoying coconut shrimp and endless pina coladas in our cabana, and exploring parts of the world we've never seen. Something I didn't share with you before - I was really close to my grandmother growing up, and she passed away 14 years ago. Hawaii was her favorite place on earth, and Kauai her favorite island. Being able to experience what she experienced held a sentimental value I cannot adequately express. We went all week without seeing a rainbow. On our last day as we were packing up on the beach, we turned around to see a vibrant, full rainbow. I swear it was my grandma saying "you see what I mean about this place?" 🙂

We cannot thank you enough for making this happen. We hope to work with you again in the (near) future. Thank you!!

We have had a wonderful anniversary trip! We are so glad we met you and can’t thank you enough for all of your help with our travels. You went above and beyond! We realized how much we have missed Hawaii and are already trying to figure out when we can come back. We will definitely ask you to help us with the details!!  Mahalo, Vanessa and Duane.

Kelly and I just wanted to say thank you so much for assisting in setting up our honeymoon vacation to Hawaii.  We were super pleased with our accommodations and tours.  Even with the initial hic-cup of our flight getting cancelled (airline mechanical issue, not your fault) and not being able to see Pearl Harbor because of our late arrival due to the airline, you and your team really went the extra mile to ensure that we had a wonderful trip.  It's hard to find even good customer service these days, but you ladies  were Great!  Your pleasant assistance and professionalism were greatly appreciated!  Please let us know if we can assist as a reference in the future and we will be sure to recommend you to anyone we hear of going that way.  Thanks again for everything!  L & K.

Hawaii is the most welcoming place I have ever traveled to.  The extra aloha spirit is something you can’t help but instantly feel when you visit the islands, and it deepens the peace and love in the hearts of all who travel there. I want to give a special thanks to Paula at Travel to Paradise and her associate Karen who helped with the activities.  Without their help, we would never have been able to piece the trip together so well.  I would recommend them to anyone who was planning a trip to Hawaii.  They will spend hours of time on the phone with you, planning the perfect vacation.  They see to every detail and are not satisfied until they know you are.  Brian and Dana

When you’re expecting, everyone tells you to take a trip with your spouse while it’s still “just the two of you.” My husband and I wanted to do a Babymoon, and between both of our demanding work schedules, and preparing for the arrival of a new family member, we didn’t have the time we needed to plan our “Babymoon.” I enlisted Meg’s help at Travel to Paradise because of all the travel agents I spoke with, Meg asked me the most questions and really gathered insights on what my husband and I were looking for in this trip. She was organized, thorough, and painted me such a great picture of what our Babymoon could really look and feel like in a way that felt designed just for us and we liked to do. Usually I do hours of research to plan my ideal vacation; but since I didn’t have the time, I could tell that Meg would approach it the same way that I would have, and I trusted her local insights.

Meg referred us to a network of people who provided dinner recommendations and excursions for the two islands we planned to visit (The Big Island and Kauai). By the way, the helicopter tour over Kauai was the absolute trip highlight! And we enjoyed our Snorkel Cruise in Kealakeua Bay. Meg’s connection who helped us select pregnancy-friendly excursions was so important to our experience and saved me hours of research.

Meg also was very responsive to questions, such as the best route to take to get from one side of the Big Island to the next, and because of her recommendations, we knew exactly which stops we should take along the way. We approached our Babymoon with confidence, and that made all the difference. My husband and I couldn’t believe that we were setting on a twelve-day vacation without doing our usual research, but it turned out great: from stopping at the Black Sand Beach on the Big Island to see turtles sunning themselves, to visiting the arts town of Hanapepe in Kauai, our Babymoon is a treasure that we will always remember.  Michelle and Chad

5 incredible destinations where travel is a force for good

Conscious travelers can help leave the world a better place when they choose to visit these incredible global destinations with eco-friendly experiences and hotels..

By Jessica Poitevien | April 3, 2024

Exploring the world often has an undeniably positive impact on travelers, but what about the other way around? Now more than ever, travelers are finding ways to leave a destination better than it was before by making conscious decisions in how they travel. From staying at hotels that prioritize sustainable practices to participating in eco-conscious activities, here are a few highly sought-after destinations around the globe where you can travel and do some good along the way.

Tulum, Mexico

With lush tropical forests, crystalline cenotes and the soothingly warm waters of the Caribbean Sea, Tulum is a paradisiacal destination for nature lovers. The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is particularly worth exploring with a private guide to help you spot the thousands of species of flora and fauna. Eco-conscious travelers staying at Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya can rest easy knowing that the resort is not only stunning, but also intentional about lessening its impact on the area’s pristine environment. Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya has multiple rescue and relocation programs for its mangroves, wildlife and coastal forest, as well as innovative waste management practices. During sea turtle nesting season, the resort also closes off areas of the beach where the turtles nest to avoid disturbing the newest hatchlings and ensure their safety.

Mahé, Seychelles

The Seychelles is an island destination unlike any other, known for its crystal-clear water, iconic granite rock formations and a blend of Asian, African and European influences that birthed a culture and cuisine totally unique to the archipelago. At Mango House Seychelles, LXR Hotels & Resorts , the very essence of the Seychelles is woven into every detail in a thoughtful and eco-friendly way. This commitment to sustainability starts in your hotel room where bath products are biodegradable and made by a local small business using plant-based ingredients. Meanwhile, in the resort’s signature restaurants , much of the seafood and other ingredients are locally sourced to support local businesses and ensure freshness, while at the bars, 90% of the spirits are also from the region.

Rangali Island, Maldives

Gifted with bountiful natural beauty, the Maldives entices distinguished travelers with its white sand and turquoise water. What’s underneath the water, though, is often the biggest draw for this exclusive destination. Hire a private guide for an adventurous day of swimming alongside whale sharks or mantas. There are also prime locations for snorkeling or scuba diving among colorful fish, coral, turtles, rays and sharks. To ensure the survival of this blissful environment, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island sponsors reef cleaning and coral regeneration programs, with an in-house team, including a marine biologist, tending to a local reef. Healthy coral is also regularly replanted in the reef and guests can even adopt coral to help with the efforts.

Anguilla, West Indies

With hundreds of days of sunshine per year, Anguilla is the ultimate Caribbean destination for travelers in need of some vitamin D. Make the most of the idyllic weather with the island’s plethora of outdoor adventures . Start with a peaceful horseback ride along the white-sand shores of Cove Beach before trying the more adrenaline-pumping activities like kite and windsurfing. At Zemi Beach House, LXR Hotels & Resorts , Anguilla’s sunshine is more than a major vacation perk — it’s a key part of the resort’s sustainable practices. On 5 acres (2 hectares) of this award-winning hotel sits the Zemi Solar Farm, with over 2,700 solar modules producing enough energy to fully power all rooms and suites, as well as the entire hotel when the sun is at its peak.

Maui, Hawaii

For native Hawaiians, the land is considered part of the collective family— something to take care of and not exploit. Travelers are invited to respectfully enjoy the lush tropical landscapes throughout the island chain. Maui is particularly popular, where you can try traditional outrigger canoeing, snorkel with sea turtles or explore the dormant volcano crater at Haleakala National Park. At Grand Wailea Maui, A Waldorf Astoria Resort , that harmonious relationship with the land means putting sustainability at the forefront of your stay. The resort is full of drought-resistant indigenous plants that decrease water usage for landscaping; 90% of produce and products come from local farmers; there’s no plastic packaging nor single-use plastic water bottles and all cooking oil is recycled as biodiesel.

Whether you leave home to rest and recharge or connect with people from other cultures, traveling can have a positive impact on your life. Return the favor by choosing eco-friendly experiences and sustainability-focused hotels to help keep the world’s idyllic destinations intact for years to come.
