Cardiff City Stadium Tour – Review With Pictures

Cardiff City Stadium is the home of Welsh Football.  Reasons to take a Cardiff City Stadium Tour;

  • Home of Wales National Team
  • Home of Cardiff City FC
  • Visit the Kit and Dressing Rooms
  • Sit in the Cardiff City FC Boardroom
  • See rare Cardiff FC Memorabilia

It’s possible to take a stadium tour however, they don’t run to a schedule.  For this reason, you must organise a stadium tour in advance.  The cost is £35 for up to 6 people therefore it’s best to visit with friends.

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Location

Cardiff City Stadium is in western Cardiff, less than 2 km from Cardiff Central.  You can easily walk, alternatively, take the train all the way to Ninian Park station which is a 5 minute walk away.  If you’re arriving by car, the A4232 runs beside it.  For this reason, when Cardiff City aren’t playing it’s a popular park and ride location.

Cardiff City Stadium Tour Meeting Point

When you organise your tour online, you’ll be given a time to start the tour.  The meeting point is main reception of the Grand Stand.  Inside is a waiting area beside a small trophy cabinet.

Fred Keenor Statue

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Fred Keenor Statue

In front of the stand is a statue of Fred Keenor.  Who is Fred Keenor?  Fred Keenor was Cardiff City captain when they beat Arsenal 1-0 to win the FA Cup in 1927.  To this day, he is the only Cardiff City captain to lead his team to an FA Cup victory.  In addition, Cardiff City are the only Welsh team to have won the FA Cup.  As you take the tour, you may also pass through the Fred Keenor lounge.  Finally, I visited shortly after the Emiliano Sala tragedy.  As a result, there were several wreaths and mementos left in his honor.

Cardiff City Stadium Facts

Cardiff City Stadium Facts

The stadium has a capacity of 33,280 which is the second largest in Wales after the Principality Stadium .  Cardiff City Stadium is home of both the Welsh national football team as well as Cardiff City FC.  It opened in 2009 and replaced Ninian Park.  The first game played here was Cardiff City against Celtic which finished 0-0.  When Wales first played here they beat Scotland 3-0.  However, the most famous game to be played here was the UEFA Super Cup between Seville and Real Madrid.  Lastly, concerts are also performed here with legends such as Rod Stewart and Bon Jovi past performers.

Yellow Seats

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Yellow Seats

Can you spot the yellow seats in the stadium?  Riverside AFC wore yellow and this is the team which went on to form Cardiff City.

Directors Box

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Directos Box

As part of the stadium tour you’ll visit the directors box.  It’s debatable whether this is the best view in the stadium but what’s certain is that the seats are certainly the most comfortable.  You’re welcome to sit where the owner, Vincent Tan sits.

Executive Boxes

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Executive Boxes

What is a VIP Cardiff City experience like?  As part of the tour you’ll discover exactly that.  As a matter of fact, you’ll visit an executive box as well as see what the view is like from their seats.

Cardiff City FC Museum

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Museum

In 1927 Cardiff City became the first non English team to win the FA Cup.  To this day, no other team outside England has ever won the FA Cup.  They beat Arsenal 1-0 in the final at the old Wembley Stadium .  You will see memorabilia from this historic victory around the stadium.  Original shirts from this game are on display in the directors boardroom.

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Kit Room

Of all the stadium tours around the world, Cardiff City is the only one which invites you to the kit room.  And what a kit room it is!  Did you ever wonder what happened to the shirts players exchange at the end of a game?  At least some of them are put on display in the kit room.  Additionally, there are a few other types of memorabilia on display.  As a matter of fact, the Cardiff City kit room could be the closest thing they have to a museum.

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Boardroom

The Cardiff City boardroom features office chairs surrounding a grand desk.  For this reason, it’s a top spot to take you photo during the tour.  Be sure to view the memorabilia on display.  This reminds the boardroom members of the great stadium they play in as well as their successes and star players.

Managers Office

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Managers Office

When I visited, Neil Warnock was the current Cardiff City Manager.  After the game he would invite the opposition manager into his office for a glass of wine and a chat.  A huge picture of Cardiff Bay and the city is displayed on the wall.  Finally, did you know Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was once Cardiff City FC manager?

Away Team Dressing Room

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Away Team Dressing Room

The away team dressing room is not bad!  You’re welcome to explore the dressing rooms as well as the bathroom section.  Of course, if you wish you can take photos.

Home Team Dressing Room

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Home Team Dressing Room

As there is no official tour schedule at Cardiff City stadium, you’ll encounter people working as you take your tour.  In fact, the kit staff were organising the home team dressing room when I visited.  If I had visited 30 minutes later I could have taken the perfect picture with the shirts on display.  Nonetheless, both Cardiff City and Wales have access to a very homely dressing room.

Players Tunnel

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Players Tunnel

As you walk through the players tunnel you know you’re in the home of the Bluebirds, Cardiff City.  As well as the blue colors and logos, huge images of the current players are on display to the visiting team.

Pitchside and Dugouts

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Pitchside and Dugouts

To stand pitchside is one of the best moments of the tour.  This is where Neil Warnock has been so animated for the last 2 years during match days.  Make sure you take your Instagram photos pitchside as well as sat in the dugout.

Flash Interview Room

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Flash Interview Room

Have you seen the players and managers giving quick interviews after the match?  It’s actually a small room with a sponsor board hung up.  You’re welcome to take a short YouTube video here.  In addition, as you’ll be on a private tour you can spend as long as you want here.

Cardiff City Stadium Tour - Press Room

The current Cardiff City manager makes his press conferences from the Press Room.  You may sit in the managers seat and pose for your photo.

Cardiff City Football Club Superstore

Cardiff City Football Club Superstore

It’s worth visiting the Cardiff City Superstore as the merchandise is excellent value.  As well as selling football merchandise, you can also choose a souvenir of your visit to Cardiff.  How about buying something to wear on the tour?

How to get to Cardiff City Stadium from Cardiff Central

Firstly, it’s possible to walk to the stadium which take around 25 minutes.  Alternatively, you can take bus 95 from Wood Street in front of Cardiff Central.  Alight at Jubilee Park and you’ll see the stadium.  Enjoy your visit to Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff City Stadium

Club: Cardiff City FC | Opening: 2009 | Capacity: 33,338 seats

History and description

Cardiff City Stadium officially opened on the 22nd of July 2009 with a friendly match between Cardiff City and Celtic. It replaced Cardiff’s old ground Ninian Park, which by the early 2000s had become severely outdated.

Plans for a new stadium had already been approved in 2005, but it had taken until 2007 for construction to begin due to the club’s financial problems.

Cardiff City Stadium has recently hosted various internationals of the Wales national team as the Millennium Stadium was deemed too large for the occasion.

In 2013, following the club’s promotion to the Premier League, Cardiff announced plans to increase capacity to just under 33,500 seats by adding a second tier to the Ninian Stand. Despite the club’s relegation at the end of the season, works went ahead anyway and were completed before the start of the 2014-15 season.

In 2015, Cardiff City Stadium hosted the UEFA Super Cup between Champions League winner Real Madrid and Europa League winner Sevilla (2-0).

How to get to Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff City Stadium is located slightly more than a mile east of Cardiff city centre and Cardiff Central Rail station. The walk takes about 30 minutes.

The closest rail station is Grangetown, to which regular trains run from Cardiff Central. The journey takes less than 5 minutes and the walk from the station to the stadium a further 5 to 10 minutes.

If arriving by car, leave the M4 motorway at junction 33 and take the A4232 toward Cardiff/Barry. After about 6 miles take the exit toward the B4267. There will be signs guiding you to the stadium.

Address: Leckwith Road, Cardiff, CF11 8AZ

Eat, drink, and sleep near Cardiff City Stadium

The area around Cardiff City Stadium is mainly residential and there is little around in terms of eating and drinking, which can therefore better be done in Cardiff’s city centre.

There are neither any hotels in the immediate vicinity of the stadium, but various options on the western side of Cardiff’s city centre or near Cardiff Central, from where one can walk or take a train to the stadium. Click here for an overview of hotels in Cardiff.

Cardiff City Tickets

Tickets for Cardiff City games can be bought online , by phone +44 (0) 845 345 1400, or at the ticket office at the stadium.

If tickets remain available, these can also be bought at the ticket office on the day of the match. Cardiff rarely sells out in the Championship, but does so regularly in the Premier League.

Cardiff have divided their home matches into three pricing categories. Tickets for category C matches, the cheapest, range in price from £27.00 for a seat behind the goal to £38.00 for a seat at the main stand. Tickets for category A matches, the most expensive, range in price from £31.00 to £42.00.

You can find a seating plan here .

Principality Stadium to open new roof top adventure course

tour of cardiff city stadium

Kate Lewis reports

A zip wire on the roof of the Principality Stadium is opening to the public on Monday.

The eagerly anticipated attraction, called 'Scale', will be open year-round at the stadium in Cardiff, potentially on match days in the future.

Suspended 50 metres above the pitch, getting on the zip wire involves climbing to the top of the Principality Stadium roof, up 15 flights of stairs.

It aims to blend "adrenaline and panoramic views to try to attract a broader audience to the home of Welsh rugby," according to organisers.

'Scale' is comprised of three parts. The first is called 'the climb', which as well as involving a lot of stairs, includes walking across the edge of the roof to take in a bird's-eye view of the pitch.

The second part is 'the zip wire', which travels at about 27 miles per hour, and the third is 'the drop', where people can abseil to the bottom.

The organisers are partnering with Wire and Sky, who have worked on similar projects at Wembley Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Liverpool FC’s Anfield.

Views from the top stretch all the way to Cardiff Bay and the iconic Millennium Centre, as well as many other landmarks.

It is a plan which has been long in the making, with the idea in various forms taking more than 14 years to come to fruition.

Talking to ITV Wales, Scale general manager Claire Jenkins explained: "It's [the zip wire] taken different guises over the years. It was [going to be] an internal gantry walk with a pop up to the roof and a zip line to the pitch.

"But we needed something we could run all the time, while events are going on."

Asked whether that included on game days, she added: "That's definitely the plan for the future for hospitality guests."

Abi Tierney, Welsh Rugby Union CEO says: “Our rooftop attraction in the heart of Wales merges the excitement of adventure sports with the rich heritage of our iconic stadium".

Ready to get some tickets to see Foo Fighters live this year? A lot of dates have sold out via Ticketmaster , but you might still be able to find seats elsewhere.

Stubhub is our top pick for finding tickets to sold-out concerts in the US. The platform is protected by the FanProtect Program, so you won’t have to worry about scams or fake tickets. Plus, you might get lucky and find tickets that are a bit cheaper than face value. It’s worth a shot if Ticketmaster no longer has tickets available for your preferred tour date.

For fans in the UK and Europe who want to catch Foo Fighters on their tour, we recommend Viagogo . Viagogo has great deals for non-US shows, and may even have sold-out tickets in stock.

Bruce Springsteen in Cardiff 2024: Stage times, set list, banned items, road closures, support and more

The Boss aka Bruce Springsteen is back in Cardiff for the first time in 11 years with his E Street Band and we have all the information you need ahead of the gig

The legend that is Bruce Springsteen is heading back to Wales this weekend with his first gig in Cardiff for 11 years and for those who are going to the concert, and for those who just want to avoid road closures, we have all the information you need to know.

Kicking off the 2024 European leg, Bruce and the E Street Band, who have been performing together for more than five decades, will be at the Principality Stadium on Sunday, May 5 and questions like, where to park, or what time The Boss is on stage, all need to be answered ahead of having fun at the gig.

Unbelievably, The Boss and his E Street Band last performed in Cardiff in the summer of 2013. Before that, they played the Cardiff stadium in 2008. The legendary singer played a series of gigs in the UK in summer 2023, including at Hyde Park and Birmingham. But then Springsteen had to cut short his world tour due to suffering with symptoms of a peptic ulcer. Summer in Cardiff this year is going to be full of top music gigs. Read more here .

READ NEXT: I’ve seen Bruce Springsteen live four times and here’s why you should get a ticket to his Cardiff gig

READ NOW : How to get tickets for Pink, Taylor Swift and Foo Fighters and other huge Cardiff gigs you thought might be sold out

Read on to find out all you need to know about Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's Cardiff show.

Stage times

4pm - Gates open

6.45pm - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

10pm - Show ends (though, you never know with these guys)

Is there a support act?

There is no support listed for Bruce, but that's no surprise. The shows are legendary and tend to go on for almost three hours on some occasions.

Are there tickets left?

There are still tickets left for the Sunday, May 5 concert and they are priced from £74.

Granted, it's still not easy on the bank account, but with a show that's going to be probably three hours long and full of high energy, super Springsteen hits and more , it's going to be worth it to be in the presence of one of the world's greatest ever rock stars. Now these £74.60 are available from Ticketmaster and there are plenty left, but, just to include all the information, they are on the side, block U32 to be exact, so you won't be able to see the show full frontal and they are sold as having an "obstructed view".

Last year, we went to Harry Styles' Principality Stadium gig last minute and chanced a side seat, with "obstructed view" and here's our verdict on the seats - which this time were even further over in block U33. With different show and stage set ups the experience will be different to Harry Styles. Ticketmaster also have fan-to-fan resale tickets too.

Sites such as Viagogo allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans, with the former having resale tickets starting at £64.

However, it is important to note that many event promoters say tickets should not be resold after initial purchase and will not be valid for admittance to gigs.

Fans attending live events with tickets acquired through resale websites are advised to double check the ticket terms and conditions at the point of sale - such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation - to ensure a smooth live event experience. Tickets could be voided if they were found to be bought second-hand. As a result, fans are buying at their own risk. With that said, viagogo also commented: "viagogo is a regulated marketplace where fans have the guarantee."

Important entry information

  • Do not screenshot your tickets
  • Make sure you transfer tickets to friends/family
  • Make sure your phone is fully charged
  • Make time for bag searches - Bags no larger than A4 Size (30cm x20cm x20cm) allowed
  • Principality Stadium is a cashless venue
  • No under 14s in the standing area and u16s in the standing area must be accompanied by an adult

Concert in Moscow 1993

Samvel Gasparov , a movie director, tells the story about MJ' show in Moscow in 1993:

tour of cardiff city stadium

'I heard about Michael Jackson for the first time back in the 70's. I even knew some of his songs, but I never was a fan. When I worked as a truck driver, I used to listen to Georgian music. Later, when I went to college, I grew to like Joe Dassin, Charles Aznavour, Tom Jones, and Engelbert Humperdinck. But I always knew about Jackson, and I knew that he was a good singer. In the early 90's my dream was to make a movie called "Run brother, run". American filmmakers expressed some interest in the script, and in 1992 I went to Romania where we rented a foundation. As it happened, Michael Jackson was giving a show in Bucharest at that time, and I was introduced to his producer Marcel Avram by one of our mutual friends. Marcel asked me to help them tape Michael's concert, and I did what I could. It was a pleasure. The performance left me stunned. Jackson impressed me very much – he was a genius, that's no question. I was personally introduced to him, and I remember shaking his cool pale hand. On the second day at dinner I told Avram about my wish to make a movie in the USA and my need for money. I already had an offer for five movies and lodging in the US by then. "I like you", Avram said. "If you want, we can bring Michael to Moscow. Then you can organize a show and make some money." I thought it would be cool, but I honestly didn't believe it was possible. But soon after that Avram sent his people to Moscow in order to check out Dessa, the company I headed at the time. It was one of the first Russian private companies created for the purpose of movie making, and I had some good folks on my team.

Suddenly the project came to life. Money was pushed to the background in my mind. I was full of enthusiasm, I wanted to bring that joyful event to people – after all, it was the first time a big Star was going to visit Russia. Since the visit of Avram's delegation and till September 1993 we were busy with preparations. It was my first experience in show business, and I couldn't imagine that it would be that hard and unpredictable. I thought that all showbiz "sharks" would support me and help me with that project, but it turned out the other way round – they threw obstacles in my way and tried to prevent the show from happening. We felt that our efforts were not appreciated. We even got phone calls with threats. And we got attacked by the media: they wrote that I was the king of the liquor industry and the head of the Chechen mafia. They said I was organizing the show in order to sell vodka on the stadium. It was a nightmare! They also wrote garbage about Jackson – that he was a pedophile, and that I was going to bring not him, but his impersonator who would lip synch to his songs. But all this crap only turned us on. We decided that we would make the show happen no matter what.

tour of cardiff city stadium

On September 15, 1993 Michael postpones his flight out of Moscow, Russia, and instead goes to visit a hospital for mentally challenged children there, who rejoice at seeing him and fight for his attention. One of his aides says that the singer has asked for one of the children to be flown to America for care and treatment which Jackson will pay for. The singer holds a few children in his arms and on his lap, comforts and plays with them and wishes to entertain them: “I’d like to sing with them. We all know a song together”, he says, visibly emotional. He also visits children in a nearby orphanage, who will sing a song to him in Russian, turning him – the ultimate performer, into an attentive spectator.

Changes announced for Taylor Swift's upcoming Scottish shows

The singer is set to play three sold-out shows at Edinburgh Murrayfield before heading to Liverpool, Cardiff and London.

  • City of Edinburgh

Changes to Taylor Swift’s upcoming shows in Edinburgh have been announced ahead of the The Era’s Tour kicking off in the capital.

Ticketholders have been told that doors to the show will open 30 minutes earlier than previously planned.

Doors at Edinburgh Murrayfield were originally supposed to open at 4.30pm but in an email sent out on Friday, Ticketmaster said they will now open at 4pm.

Fans have been assured that “everything else is staying exactly the same” and all fans need to do is show up on the day they booked for.

The change in time has Swifties on high alert that the singer could be extending her already three and a half hour set following the release of her eleventh album, The Tortured Poets Department.

The hotly anticipated show is set to break the record for Scotland’s biggest-selling stadium show when she dazzles at Edinburgh Murrayfield on June 7, 8 and 9.

It comes just a year after former One Direction star, Harry Styles, broke the record for the country’s biggest stadium show when he played to just under 70,000 at Murrayfield last summer.

Edinburgh Council granted organisers permission to increase the stadium’s capacity from 67,130 to 72,990.

The event was unanimously approved by the council’s licensing board on Monday, March 25 with an additional capacity of 5,860 (8.73%).

Swift has spoken fondly about Scotland on multiple occasions and even opened up about her Scottish ancestry during a show at Glasgow’s Hydro in 2015.

Explaining that her father had emailed her ahead of her performance to inform her of the family’s Scottish roots, she told fans that she was “proud” to be one of them.

She said: “In the subject line it said ‘tell Scotland this’, and in the email he said our whole family is from Scotland and you have to tell them that.

“So I am one of you, and I’m proud because this crowd is amazing.”

The singer then performed hit single Blank Space while swinging a golf club, and declared afterwards: “I happen to love Scottish people, personally.”

A website which outlines the ancestry of famous people, famouskin.com, also directly connects Swift’s family line to William the Lion, King of Scotland.

Both claims, though unproven, connect the royal lines to Swift through her father, stock broker Scott Kingsley Swift.
