Did anyone else get a mailer that gives you complimentary cruise and airfare if you attend this event?

It sounds like a scam but wanted to get others thoughts or experiences

It's a website. Type scam pulse into Google and it comes right up.

Actually I’d rather hear from Cruise Critic people.  I’m sure there are many things on cruise critic that can be found on other sites.

I googled scam pulse and read their reviews on trustpilot (which I have used before).  Personally, I think I'd take whet I read on scampulse with a grain of salt

Absolutely no need to google or look at any other sites, as that age old saying springs to mind.

IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT USUALLY IS.

I would also be skeptical (and was hoping you would get a response).  What was the event they wanted you to attend?  Are they still doing the time share stuff I wonder?

I'll help you out.  IT'S A SCAM!  I refer you to the top Google search from Talk of the Villages January 2023 ( retirement residences in Florida) where the exact same question was posted (was that you as well?) and responses were provided from people who had called the number, friends of theirs who had called/gone to the event etc.  It is a travel club and/or timeshare.  You will get no bargains out of it.  The 'free' tickets come with many many conditions including extra fees.  I would also suggest you go to Elliott.org or Christopher Elliott's social media pages where he has many articles on travel scams and timeshare scams.

If you're still thinking about this then the adage 'a fool and his money are soon parted' comes to mind.

Throw this flyer in the trash...do not pass go, do not collect anything....

You're welcome.

Thanks

Thank you and no, I have never posted about this before.

The details of the event were vague.  It indicated a local Marriott that would be hosting the event and a number to call for the event details all masked as Travel and Cruise Showcase 2023

Holiday Sharing

Sounds fishy at best.

They do them at Marriott locations here also, waste of time.

Here is it again in 2023. Does anyone have any new information about this Travel and Cruise offer yet?

If something sounds too good to be true, it is.

I got the postcard in the mail today!  I'm considering going to the show to see what is offered just out of curiosity.  Original poster:  did you go to the show?

I did not as I’ve made it my life’s work to avoid these types of scams.  Please report back after you go to the show and tell us about it

Well, we decided to attend the Next Travel Destination show.  It was held in the Sheraton Four Points Hotel in Punta Gorda, Florida.  16 of us were in attendance.  The Vice President of Marketing did the presentation.  It's a members only travel agency.  He claims that there are 3 million members.  The presentation lasted about an hour and then a salesperson came to each couple's table.  The cost of the Platinum Lifetime Membership started at $9,995 with annual dues of $199.  Our salesman, offered us multiple discounts with the final price being $3,500.  We didn't accept the offer, but at least two other couples did sign up.  This was truly a "no pressure to sign up" presentation.  We were in and out in less than 90 minutes with a handshake from the salesperson.

We were given a certificate for a 5 day Carnival cruise, or options for other vacation offers.

This needs to be filled out and sent to Customer Choice Rewards, in Tarpon Springs, FL, along with a self addressed stamped envelope.

I'll keep you posted with the outcome!  I don't have high expectations for this working out, but I felt like it would be a good experiment.  Being retired, we have the time and we found out where the free bicycle rental place is in Punta Gorda!  This was a nice diversion from dealing with Hurricane Ian repairs at our home.

Glad to hear it was no pressure and your invested time was minimal.  Not what I expected to hear.  Thanks for reporting back

I received this invite in today's mail. My initial thought was that they got my name from some cruise data base, if such a data base even exists. The clincher for me was that both my last and first name were spelled incorrectly (in addition to my name or "current resident" invited)  so I know they didn't get it from some legit information that the cruise lines might sell.  Oh well, I was excited for at least a moment!

In this case, I think I would choose the latter.

Haha

Reply to "The Nurse". We also attended a "presentation" and decided (barely) to pass. We were told our vouchers would come by email ("as it is not safe for us to carry them anymore"). Have yet to see anything. Did you get your vouchers at the presentation? Have you had a response yet?

Many years ago I did something similar and after paying a fee of @ $400 I did get a vacation as advertised and even got my money refundad after completing the trip!

We mailed our certificate to Customer Choice Rewards, in Tarpon Springs, FL, along with a self addressed stamped envelope about 10 days ago.  No voucher yet.  🙂

Just got another one.  They are persistent

When I read "....you will receive (2) two complimentary round trip airline vouchers" (Yea on what airline? AND "....valid for travel from most major international airports" Yea what airports? AND (In addition you will receive (2) two nights at one of over 1,000 Marriott, Hilton, or Hyatt Hotels)......I said NO! We don't need to dilly dally on the phone with with these "MORONS" we have better things to do.

Travel & Adventure Show 2023: A Must for Cruise and Travel Fans

The Travel & Adventure Show is coming to nine US cities in 2023. Find out why this fun two-day travel exhibition is a must for anyone who loves traveling.

tourism & travel show 2023 reviews

Last spring, I enjoyed visiting the Travel & Adventure Show in Boston , and as a travel fanatic it was the perfect way to spend a weekend, even though I wasn’t far from home!

But don’t worry that you missed the boat with the last exhibition. The Travel & Adventure Show is once again visiting nine US cities in the spring of 2023.

At this two-day gathering, travel fans can meet with dozens of friendly people from around the world who represent travel brands, and there’s always a variety of exhibitors. You’ll see booths for cruise lines, independent tour operators, tourism boards, luxury resorts, airlines—there’s something for every kind of traveler.

What is the Travel & Adventure Show?

For seventeen years the Travel & Adventure Show has hosted annual travel exhibitions in major US cities. They’ve done over a hundred of these events so far, with a total of over 2.1 million visitors!

Each show offers over 100 travel-focused exhibitor booths, featuring both domestic and international destinations.

Take a moment and check out each of the cruise travel booths—you’re sure to find inspiration for your next cruise adventure (and you might walk away with some free swag, too!)

Speakers at the Travel & Adventure Show

One of my favorite parts of the show was attending the inspirational travel seminars. For my 2022 visit, there were over thirty of them on three stages, so be sure to plan out which ones you want to see! And yes, all the seminars are included in the price of your ticket.

My last Boston show had several featured speakers, including Andrew McCarthy (yes, the Pretty in Pink and St. Elmo’s Fire actor!), beloved travel show host Samantha Brown , and Pauline Frommer —the author, TV host, and Editorial Director of Frommer’s Guidebooks.

tourism & travel show 2023 reviews

On the main stage, known as the Travel Theater, the featured speakers entertained and inspired us with stories of their travels throughout the world.

At the end of each seminar there’s a brief Q&A session, followed by a meet and greet so you can interact (and maybe snap a photo) with the speakers.

Pro tip: If you want to meet one of your fave speakers without standing in a long line, get up during the Q&A session at the very end of the seminar and head over to the Meet & Greet stand. You’ll still be able to hear the end of the session, but you’ll be at the front of the line!

Featured speakers vary by city, and (of course) the list of speakers is subject to change. Check out my chart below with all of last year’s featured speakers for each city.

When the 2023 Travel & Adventure Show speakers are finalized, I’ll update this post. So bookmark it if you’re thinking about attending!

Featured speakers at the 2022 Travel & Adventure Shows

In addition to the Travel Theater , the exhibition also features two other stages hosting interesting travel talks on various topics:

Destination Theater:  A variety of destination experts will inspire you to travel, sharing in-depth information about how to experience their favorite places like a local.

Savvy Traveler Theater:  Here you’ll find travel pros sharing their best travel tips—like how to pack for your vacation, budget travel hacks, and how to stay safe when you travel.

Buying tickets for the Travel & Adventure Show

Although it seems like the price of just about everything has skyrocketed over the past year, I’m thrilled to report that Travel & Adventure Show tickets cost the same as last year!

Tickets are still $16 for one day and $24 for both days (online or at the door). Kids age 16 and under get in free with an adult.

To purchase tickets online, visit the Travel & Adventure Show website and click on “buy tickets” for your preferred city.

Travel & Adventure Show FAQ

The Travel & Adventure Show will visit nine US cities in 2023: Chicago, Boston, New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Dallas.

Tickets for the Travel & Adventure Show are $16 for one day and $24 for both days. Children 16 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

I’d like to thank the Travel & Adventure Show for providing Should Be Cruising with two passes to the 2022 Boston show. I wasn’t provided any additional compensation, and as always my opinions are entirely my own.

Have you been to the Travel & Adventure Show? Or are you planning on going in 2023? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!

My wife and I attended your presentation in Rocky Mount, NC on April 3rd because we were told we would receive a voucher for a cruise just by attending. Also the first 50 attendees would receive a $100 dinner voucher. We responded to the mail immediately upon receiving it, we went to the presentation, and received nothing so far. This is smelling like a scam.

Hi John, I'm an independent travel blogger who attended the Travel & Adventure show in Boston as a member of the media. I have no affiliation with the company. The real Travel & Adventure Show takes place annually in large cities across the US. As far as I know it's never been held in the small city of Rocky Mount, NC. You may have been scammed/lied to by another company with a similar name.

"Jenifer Smith" at 800-245-8983 has sent me the above Travel & Tourism Show invitation. The front of the letter contained the following names: American, United, and Southwest. As with previous correspondence, there was no time frame, but the address included Hyatt Regency but no city or address. For attendance there was a promise of two tickets to RT airlines, including two nights stay at Hilton or Marriott hotels, and those who attend the first 50 events getting a $100 dining voucher. My claim number is KatyAir. Scam to me!

Scam History

I got a mailer asking me and my husband to join a Tourism & Travel Show 2023 however, it did not mention a location or date for the event as well as no website or an email address. It only gave a number. Only indication of the location was the number of the claim I received as NewBraunfels23 Then in the lower part of the email, it stated that it was located in NewBraunfels23 and also gave an image of the Hampton by Hilton Logo, but did not mention which hotel or the date. I searched the internet to determine if the scam was real and discovered this website that had the same scam reported in 2022. Also, it had the same telephone number. Also, a heads-up that it seems like criminals have returned. I didn't dial the number as I thought they were seeking personal data before they started making calls or texts to my mobile.

I RECEIVED the invitation through USPS to go to the "show" in Fremont CA in the Court yard by Marriot in mid-March. Called. He said he was working out outside town. I was informed, there was no issue, and that I could arrive 15 minutes early.I was there, but my husband unable. They instructed me to fill in the forms but I was unable to take part in the presentation on my own. there was no issue with the on-site woman told me that the telephone contact Jennifer Smith, 886-271-3304 yold her that it was okay. You don't have to be concerned about the amount of time it takes to make the trip. I'd get them regardless via email. two tickets for rt flights to US as vouchers. Then 2 night stays in an Hilton Hotel in US+ $100 voucher for food. I WAITED. I received no email. I contacted them, and they re-edited several times the same the same. . One phone number has been not working and on another number 754-345-1575, it says in the recorded message, " no one here to answer your call, GOOD BYE" It is the Customer Help Line which I had been given before. I AM Very UPSET. I WANT MY TICKETS, VOUCHCHERS , AND FOOD BONUS FOR $100. How can they escape by using this tactic ? Who do I contact now? How do I file this and to whom ? What can I do to sue the company to remedy the violation of the contract? I have a copy of my mail form, which has promises. I'm upset I am hot under my collar, I am very angry and hot under the collar. I'd like my prizes right today or a pound of FLESH. !

Travel & Adventure Show: The Buzz on Travel in 2023

downtown dallas skyline including the bank of america plaza at dallas texas

The parking lot was nearly full at the 2023 Travel & Adventure Show in Dallas, Texas.  It was still early in the day, and the parking lot reflected something other than the emerging Texas heat.  This filling parking lot reflected that the travel industry remains alive and well, and that casual travelers are massively interested in what comes next.

The busy parking lot was my first clue into, honestly, what I had  hoped  to find at this year’s show.

I wanted to think that travel was back after the grueling patience of the global pandemic.  My hope was to find that travel in 2023 wasn’t just for travel elites but for people like you and me.  I wished for affordability and increasing access to the places and activities that filled my bucket-list along with all the mental health benefits of travel .

Given the trending upswell in travel, I just knew that if I opened the door to this year’s show, my hopes would turn into evidence.

Through a range of interviews, discussions, and observations, there was firm consensus about one central notion.  The time to travel is now. Need evidence?  Read on.

Travel & Adventure Show in 2023

Dallas Travel & Adventure Show convention guests looking at all the travel exhibits

For those of you not familiar, the Travel & Adventure Show is one of the preeminent trade show for the travel industry and for casual travelers alike.  I include both categories (industry leaders and casual travelers) because this is a rather unique feature of the Show.

It’s not only a gathering place for tourism boards, travel celebrities, and industry insiders, but also the point of contact with thousands of travel-minded individuals desiring to learn more and find great travel deals.  Within this interface resides the Travel & Adventure Show, a multi-city series that boasts over 2.5 million travelers and over 4,500 exhibitors represented.

Jonathan Golicz, Vice President of the Travel & Adventure Show, estimated that show attendance this year was approaching pre-pandemic levels.  He highlighted that his team had been to multiple cities as part of the Show tour and had not encountered any travel-related obstacles.  I’ll also share his takeaway recommendation about the current state of travel:  “Just go do it. Travel is back!”  Finally.

“The primary motivation for traveling seemed to be a passion for what’s next, not a frustration with what is behind.” -Psychology of Travel

The bustling scene between exhibitor booths was slightly unexpected.  I say slightly, because although travel trends have been increasing as Covid has been decreasing, I underestimated the volume of casual travelers that were actively seeking to lock in travel opportunities  right now .  Not “someday”.   Today.

You could hear them talking, already imagining themselves at their next vacation destination.  Smiles aplenty as new destination ideas jumped from the brochure pages into the eager minds of pent-up travelers.

I did overhear some mentions about surging travel demand due to all of the travel challenges and restrictions from the fading global pandemic.  However, it’s not just “revenge travel” as it has recently been coined.

From speaking with guests, exhibitors, and presenters at the show, I think it could be more aptly titled “love travel”.  You see, the primary motivation for traveling seemed to be a passion for what’s next, not a frustration with what is behind.

Celebrity Guests

Travel experts presenting on stage to travel audience at the Travel and Adventure Show in Dallas, Texas

Fortunately, there were plenty of expert travel tips to fuel that passion for what’s next in travel.  The celebrity presenters did not disappoint.

I spoke with Peter Greenberg , Emmy Award winning investigative reporter and producer, to learn more about one of his presentation points regarding the importance of “conversation” when making travel plans.  Actual, honest to goodness, face to face (or at least Zoom to Zoom) conversation with travel providers like airline or hotel representatives.  It seems to have become a lost art in the world of impersonal travel apps and online services.

When asked if there’s still a role for conversation in our digitalized world, he responded “It’s essential.  Without it, you’re a victim.”  I don’t think this is an overstatement, as some critical pieces of travel information are not shared online.  Why rely exclusively on online content when a simple conversation could open up useful options or exclusive savings?

Mr. Greenberg went on to tell me that “There’s a cultural disconnect.  People are so tied to their phones they may not know any better.”

Similarly, Jeff Corwin of Ocean Treks fame (and currently in association with Princess Cruises ) highlighted some of the unique benefits of ocean voyages in 2023.  I asked him his views on cultural exposure, even in relatively brief doses like during a cruise excursion, and his response was insightful.

“We’re better when we’re more well rounded…any time you can gain exposure, even moderately immersive exposure, to the beliefs and lives of others makes us all better”, stated Mr. Corwin.

He added that Ocean Treks was designed to help get people out and into those cultures through watching the show.  That message seems to be working, as evidenced by the turnout to hear him speak. Not to mention the nervous giggles of fans lining up to take pictures with Mr. Corwin after his presentation.

Booths From Around the World

close up photo of assorted color of push pins on map representing travel around the world

As this show was in Texas, I was anticipating a nod towards stereotyped views of Texas with tumbleweeds blowing across some kind of boot-trodden desert.  Instead, I was pleased to see a more accurate representation of the Lone Star State.  Traditional Southwestern elements, though not cheeky, were side-by-side with booths featuring high-end luxury accommodations and urban centers fitting all walks of life.

Now I pride myself on knowing my Texas state history, as any good Texan should, though I admit I learned a few things here.  Did you know that Lindale, Texas has one of the most picturesque Christmas towns in America?  Think Hallmark movie style, and you’re close.

Stepping outside the Texas zone, I met Elizabeth Burnam, a Visitor Services Manager with Visit Albuquerque at her booth.  She offered a delightful description of the inspiring culture and unique activities to be found in Albuquerque.  Count me in for the annual hot air balloon festival!

Exploring down the tidy rows of exhibitor booths, eventually I found myself in international waters.  Well, not literally, but it sure felt like it from the beautiful and sometimes exotic locales featured in this area.  Spanning prominent locales from around the globe, I could have spent a whole day exploring those international travel opportunities.

If there was a theme across all of the exhibits, it was the connection between emotions and travel.

We all want to be happy.  Per Ruth Daly, Regional Director (North America) for Tourism Fiji , one of the best places in the world to find happiness is in Fiji.  Capturing the essence of that message, the updated Tourism Fiji campaign spotlights the slogan “Where happiness comes naturally.”  Hard to argue to the contrary upon observing the in-the-moment joy on the faces of the Fijian residents pictured on the Tourism Fiji booth exhibit.

Ms. Daly, discussing the happiness found with Fijian culture, stated that “Cyclones come through about every five years…so it’s not about the things you own, but rather what you carry with you in your heart.”  Sounds like good advice for any culture.

New to the 2023 Show

Dancers performing on the Global Beats Stage at the Travel Convention

There were several new and returning aspects of this year’s Show as compared with last year’s version .  One welcome return was the Global Beats Stage, an inspiring collection of dance presentations reflecting the truly worldwide range of dance as an artistic expression.

Anindita Nanda, a classical dancer and performer, recognized the importance of what she called a “judgment free” dance opportunities, adding that “creativity doesn’t flow otherwise.  Dance in a place that doesn’t have limits.”  The dancers gain such a space, and guests already mentally primed for travel and culture receive a taste of those arts.

Anindita continued, “I come from a culture that is thousands of years old.  We are helping to preserve it and carry it on our shoulders.”  Connecting dance with travel seekers in this way is a natural fit.

Another fun update to this year’s Travel & Adventure Show was the Dive & Water Sports Pavilion.  This was a series of exhibitor booths featuring a central theme of water-based travel adventures.  Personally, I found the information about PADI ( Professional Association of Diving Instructors ) and an array of specific diving destinations very interesting.  Great to be packaged together in one convenient pavilion area.

It was even possible to renew your passport via the Passport Acceptance Program.  This program was an on-site opportunity to renew your passport while at the Show.  I didn’t utilize this service, but it’s a nice way to maximize your time if you need it!

Final Travel & Adventure Show Takeaways

Russia- Ukraine War and Israel-Hamas War effects tourism in Middle East and Central Asia

The Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Israel-Hamas clashes have reverberated across the Middle East and Central Asia, significantly impacting tourism in the region. In the wake of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, uncertainty and geopolitical tensions have dissuaded travelers from exploring destinations like Crimea and Eastern Ukraine . Concerns about safety, travel advisories, and geopolitical instability have led to a decline in tourist arrivals, affecting local economies reliant on tourism.

Likewise, the Israel-Hamas conflict has disrupted tourism in the Middle East. The intermittent flare-ups and security concerns have deterred visitors from areas like Gaza and Southern Israel. The conflict’s visibility in global media has created perceptions of instability, impacting tourism across the region. Travelers often opt for safer destinations, steering away from areas marked by conflict or political unrest.

These conflicts not only impede tourism directly in the affected regions but also cast a shadow of uncertainty over neighboring countries, impacting the broader tourism industry in Central Asia and the Middle East. Restoring confidence in safety and stability remains pivotal for revitalizing tourism, promoting peace, and fostering economic recovery across these geographically interconnected regions.

It sparks curiosity, encouraging travelers to venture beyond their comfort zones and experience diverse cultures firsthand. As barriers diminish, tourism flourishes, leading to increased visitor numbers, hotel bookings, and local spending, benefiting various sectors within the industry.

This liberation from bureaucratic hurdles not only enriches travelers’ experiences but also enhances a destination’s global appeal. It fosters reciprocity and goodwill between nations, creating a positive ripple effect that transcends borders. Visa-free travel stands as a catalyst for the travel industry’s growth , fostering inclusivity and driving economic prosperity while nurturing a more interconnected world.

OceanGate accident affects travel in underwater exploration The OceanGate accident has sent ripples through underwater exploration , impacting travel and research in deep-sea ventures. Safety concerns following the incident have led to reassessments of expedition protocols and equipment standards. This setback has temporarily slowed the momentum of deep-sea exploration, causing delays in planned missions and affecting the confidence of potential travelers and investors in underwater ventures. Despite this, the incident has sparked a renewed emphasis on safety measures, prompting the industry to recalibrate and prioritize stringent safety protocols, aiming to regain trust and resume underwater exploration with enhanced precautions.

airline

Introduction of long haul airlines The introduction of long-haul airlines marks a pivotal stride in aviation, revolutionizing travel by connecting distant corners of the globe. These carriers offer extended flight routes , bridging continents and making once-remote destinations accessible. Their arrival introduces competitive pricing, diverse amenities, and innovative services, enhancing passenger experiences on lengthy journeys. The expansion of long-haul networks not only fuels tourism but also facilitates trade and cultural exchange. By catering to global wanderlust with efficiency and comfort, these airlines redefine air travel, fostering a more interconnected world and catering to the evolving demands of modern travelers seeking far-flung adventures.
