What types of suites are available on P&O Cruises Britannia? I’ve broken down each suite for you in this guide, so keep reading to find out which one is best for you. If you’re interested in sailing in a suite aboard P&O cruises – I’ve also created a similar guide for the best suites on Iona.

Why chose a suite on P&O cruises Britannia?

A suite is a great option for families because of the space it offers. The spacious lounge and balcony are perfect for sharing and socialising or for having a cosy night in catching up on some favourite shows or films on the large screen TVs. A suite can also be a perfect romantic getaway for couples too with privacy and added luxurious touches.

The Best Suites on P&O Cruises Britannia

What are the different types on P&O Cruises Britannia?

Simply put, suites aboard Britannia vary on two main aspects: location on the ship and size of the balcony. Depending on your preference, one might be more of a priority for you.

Technically, there are 4 grades of suite on Britannia (B1, B2, B4 and B5) situated on a variety of decks. However, I clumped these into four main categories based on location and balcony size:

  • Forward Suites: these are right at the front of the ship with side-facing balconies and forward-facing windows.
  • Mid Ship Suites these are all on B deck with side-facing balconies. Balconies are the same depth as a standard balcony but double the width.
  • Aft Suites there are two suites right at the back of the ship on B deck which have backward-facing balconies. These balconies are slightly deeper than the Midship and Forward Suite balconies.
  • Wrap Around Aft Suites these are right at the back of the ship with wrap-around balconies and are the largest balconies on ship.

There are a few pros and cons to each type of suite and depending on your preferences (vive la difference) you’re bound to find one which suits you perfectly.

A deck plan of the suites aboard P&O Cruises Britannia can be found here

Forward Suites on P&O Cruises Britannia

These are right at the front of the ship with side-facing balconies and forward-facing windows (forward suites). These suites can be found right at the front of the ship. (See photo, below).

Suites: C101, C102, D101, D102, E101, E102, F101 F102

The benefits of these suites are that they have some of the most spacious interior space onboard.

As the interior space dominates in these suites, they are great for having the neighbours over for canapés and drinks, or for securing a Captain’s eye view of the journey ahead as these suites all face forward and are located under the bridge.

The main bedroom in these forward suites benefits from a forward-facing window; a few hours could easily melt away in one of the comfy chairs, looking out to sea.

P&O Britannia Forward Suites

As you’re right at the front of the ship, the Epicurean restaurant is very close by (where breakfast is served, exclusively for suite guests). Another benefit is that to get the these suites, you’re likely to use the forward lifts – which tend to be less busy than the mid ship lifts.

Britannia

Two of these forward suites (C101 and C102) have balconies which are directly under the bridge (Which has a large over-hang – see photo below). Therefore these balconies may be shaded in the middle of the day. While this might be a benefit for some, it might also be a dealbreaker for sun-worshipers.

A couple of things to consider when choosing forward suites is that as you’re right at the front of the ship, you might experience some more movement than mid ship suites. In rougher seas this might become more pronounced the higher up you are (C deck suites will be the highest).

One other thing to consider if you’re booking a forward suite and travelling with younger kids, is the schlep right to the back of the ship for the Reef (kids club, on Deck 19). I guarantee it will certainly get your step count up (it’ll be over half a kilometre for a return trip). So if you don’t fancy this, then pick an aft or midship suite instead.

Britannia

Mid Ship Suites on P&O Cruises Britannia

These are all on B deck with side-facing balconies. The suite balconies are the same depth as a standard balcony on all the other decks, but mid ship suite balconies are double the width (See photo, below).

Suites: B434, B435, B436, B437, B438, B439, B503, B504, B505, B506, B509, B510, B511, B522, B523, B524, B525, B528, B533, B603, B604, B605, B606, B609, B610, B614, B615, B622, B623, B624, B625, B626, B627, B701, B702, B703, B704, B705, B706

Britannia

Midship suite all have the same layout  (with the exception of Suites  B626  and  B627  which are the only two adapted suites on the ship).  These suites start at the middle of the ship and continue towards the aft, the ones pictured above and underlined in red are mid-aft suites.

B Deck is where most of the suites cluster on board Britannia . So, this tends to be the busiest deck for the butlers (although I’ve never heard anyone who’s stayed in one of these suites ever complain about slow service).

Aft Suites on P&O Cruises Britannia

There are two suites are right at the back of the ship which have backward-facing balconies which are slightly deeper than Midship and Forward Suite balconies (See photo, below).

Suites: B723, B724

These two aft suites look over the wake at the back of the ship and benefit from slightly deeper balconies when compared to the midship and forward-facing suites. As they are at the back of the ship, and quite high up, you might experience slightly more movement than midship suites or those on lower decks).

One other thing to note (not shown in the model above) is that these suites now have a canopy installed (since the 2019 refit) and may be more shaded as a result. So, if you like uninterrupted mid-day sun then you might find a different suite might be a better option.

Britannia

Wrap Around Aft Suites on P&O Cruises Britannia

These suites are right at the back of the ship with wrap-around balconies and boast the largest balconies on the ship.

Suites: A726, A727, B726, B727, C736, C737, D738, D739, E742, E743, F730, F731, G732, G733

These large, wraparound balconies come into their own on warmer climate cruises (this was a big selling point for me). If you want to to see a quick tour around the suite we stayed, the video is below.

Their balconies wrap around the back of the ship and provide fantastic views. They also benefit from the soft, calming white noise and views of the ships wake.

As these suites are right at the back of the ship, just as with the forward suites, you might experience slightly more movement in rougher seas than mid ship suites and this might be even more pronounced the higher up you go (towards A deck).

Location-wise, the aft suites (B743, B724 included) are really convenient for the Reef (kids clubs) on Deck 19 and the Oriental Restaurant (Deck 6).

Its worth bearing in mind that if you’re opting for an aft suite, there is a bit of a trek for breakfast in the Epicurean as you will need to walk down the whole length of the ship to get there (approx. 300m each way). The good thing is by the time you make journey back to your cabin after an Epicurean breakfast, you will have walked over half a kilometre!

Britannia

Aft Suites and cabins on A and B deck also now have a canopy in place. So, if midday sun is your thing, you may be disappointed by the amount of shade now afforded by these newly installed canopies. If you don’t mind the shade and like to be high up with an embarrassment of balcony space, then these are these suites might be perfect for you.

Another thing to be aware of is that some passengers have previously noticed one or two spots of soot on the aft suite balconies. This depends on the speed the ship is sailing and wind direction, but I understand the 2019 refit has made some adjustments to eliminate this.

If you want to see what else is on offer on this beautiful ship, Laura at Cruiselifestyle.co.uk has put together this highly informative tour of Britannia.

Aft suites G732 and G733 are the only suites on G deck. There are perfectly situated for quick and easy access to the Oriental Restaurant and Live lounge.

As these suites are situated directly above the Live Lounge, you might hear low base tones from the nightclub below the small hours. So, if you’re light sleeper and prefer to turn in early, you might want to choose a suite perhaps on the deck above for this reason.

On the other hand, if you’re likely to be found in the Live Lounge until the small hours, this is probably the suite for you. I guarantee it’ll be the cheapest and quickest journey home from a night club you’ll even take (just one flight of stairs).

So, there it is – your run down of the main types of suite aboard Britannia.

We enjoyed our holiday in spacious, suite with all the perks. While it came at a price I can honestly say it was worth every single penny and the perfect suite for us.

Wherever you choose she is a truly amazing and elegant ship. Enjoy your cruise!

Ultimate Guide to P&O Britannia

P&O Cruises has been a much-loved cruise line with British cruisers for decades and offers traditional cruises to popular destinations such as the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Norwegian Fjords. In this ultimate guide to P&O Britannia , I share everything you need to know about the flagship to make the most of your cruise holiday.

Key Facts about P&O Britannia

P&O Britannia was launched in 2015 and was last refurbished in 2019. The cruise ship was built by Fincantieri (Monfalcone, Italy) and is a Royal Class ship, making it a sister to: Royal, Regal, Sky, Enchanted, Majestic and Discovery Princess.

Britannia has 1,836 cabins for up to 3,647 passengers and has 1,350 crew.

Where is P&O Britannia right now?

You can discover the exact location of Britannia cruise ship using this cruise tracker and take a look at the Britannia webcam from the Bridge.

Cabins on P&O Britannia

Britannia offers a range of cruise cabins to suit all budgets and preferences:

  • Superior Deluxe Balcony (equivalent to a mini-suite)

Inside cabin

A standard inside cabin on P&O Britannia is 170 square feet, which is ample space for two people. This cabin has a TV, fridge and tea/coffee making facilities that are replenished daily.

There is generous wardrobe space with shelves and drawers, which I found was plenty of storage for a fortnight’s cruise.

There is a security safe to store any valuables and it’s worth mentioning that we could fit an iPad easily into it.

The en-suite bathroom is stocked with toiletries from The White Company and a notably there was a shower door (instead of a shower curtain).

Pool towels are already in your cabin when you arrive so that you can use them on the ship or at the beach.

An inside cabin is a perfect option for those who like to spend their time enjoying the ship’s facilities and public areas. I also like how dark the room is if you want to sleep or take a nap during the day.

Balcony Cabin

A standard balcony cabin on Britannia is 212 square feet, which is a good size space for two people. This cabin has a TV, fridge and tea/coffee making facilities that are replenished daily.

There is generous wardrobe space, shelves and drawers, which was the same amount of space as an inside cabin. The balcony has the addition of a small table and comfy chair.

The balcony has enough space for two chairs and a small table. I would say the size of the balcony is not huge but fine if you enjoy to sit outside and get some sea air.

The en-suite bathroom appears to be the same size as the inside cabin and is stocked with toiletries from The White Company. It has a shower with a door and pool towels are already in your cabin.

P&O Britannia balcony cabin

Superior Deluxe Balcony

A superior deluxe balcony cabin on Britannia is 281 square feet, which is a good option for families (sleeps up to four) or couples wanting a bit of luxury and inside space to relax. This cabin has two TVs, a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities that are replenished daily.

The cabins amenities are very similar to those of inside and balcony cabins but has the added bonus of a separate sitting area, which can be curtained off if the settee bed is required.

I would compare this to a mini-suite on sister ships with Princess Cruises.

The bathroom has the addition of a bath with the shower head over it, I think this is a luxury that many would be happy to pay extra for.

Suite cabin

For passengers wanting the ultimate luxury cabin or want to cruise as a family with enough space for everyone, a suite offers 382-689 square feet.

There are four grades of suite on Britannia and are located forward, mid-ship and in the aft. As it’s the most expensive type of cabin on Britannia, I’d fully recommend doing plenty of research before booking so that you choose the right one for you.

Take a look at this guide to choosing the best suite on Britannia .

A suite comes with a long list of perks and benefits:

  • Priority embarkation/disembarkation
  • Access to an exclusive hospitality lounge with a selection of teas, coffees and fresh pastries while you wait to board
  • Exclusive welcome reception with hot and cold canapés and complimentary alcoholic drinks
  • Box of chocolates
  • Fresh fruit
  • Daily canapes

Dining on P&O Britannia

There are plenty of dining options on P&O Britannia, with complimentary and specialty restaurants to choose from.

There are main dining rooms, casual dining venues and specialty dining restaurants.

Main Dining Rooms

You will be allocated the Oriental main dining room for traditional set time dining if you enjoy eating at the same time every evening.

Oriental Restaurant   Breakfast: 08.00 – 09.30 (Sea Day) 07.30 – 09.00 (Port Day) Dinner: 1st sitting from 18.30, 2nd sitting from 20.30.

Oriental restaurant on P&O Britannia

If you prefer a bit more flexibility in the time you eat, I would recommend dining at the Meridian main dining room or Peninsular main dining room.

You can choose the style of dining you’d like when you book your cruise on Britannia.

P&O Britannia Meridian Restaurant

The main dining rooms all offer the same menu, which changes each night.

In my opinion the food is of a good standard and features traditional British dishes such as Beef Wellington and Bread and Butter Pudding. I particularly recommend the fish dishes.

Meridian Restaurant Lunch: 12.15 – 13.45 (Light lunch option – Sea days only) Dinner: 18.00 – 21.30

Peninsular Restaurant Breakfast: 08.00 – 09.30 (Sea Day) 07.30 – 09.00 (Port Day) Lunch: 12.15 – 13.45 Afternoon tea: 16.00 – 16.45 Dinner: 18.00 – 21.30

Once a cruise, there is a special Gala Night menu that shouldn’t be missed. This is typically offered on the first formal night of the cruise. Please be aware that this may differ on summer 2021 UK cruises.

P&O Britannia Gala Night menu

Each dish in the main dining room is nicely presented and portion sizes are not too large so you can enjoy all three courses. If you have a larger appetite you can always order extra portions of any course.

Casual Dining Venues

On P&O Britannia you can opt for more casual dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner with healthy and fast food choices, depending on what you fancy.

The buffet is open from 6am to 12 noon for breakfast. It can get very busy but signage at the entrances indicates peak times to avoid.

I would recommend leaving the main buffet dining area and finding a table outside for a peaceful start to the day, away from what can be chaos.

P&O Britannia buffet breakfast

The buffet has a rolling menu so there is always food available between 6am and 2am, here’s a guide to times throughout the day in the Horizon Court Buffet:

Breakfast: 06:00 – 12:00 Lunch: 12:00 – 15:00 Afternoon snacks: 15:00 – 17:00  Children’s tea: 17:00 – 18:00 Theme dinner: 18:00 – 21:30 Late night snacks: 21:30 – 02:00

The themed dinners in the buffet change nightly and offers a wide selection of cuisines from around the world. You can find the schedule for the buffet dinner themes on you in-cabin TV.

P&O Britannia buffet dinner theme schedule

Other complimentary casual food options include:

  • Pizzeria on Lido Deck 16
  • The Grill on Lido Deck 16
  • Grab & Go on Lido Deck 16

I particularly like the Grab and Go option as there are freshly-made individually wrapped sandwiches and salads that you can take from the fridges. This is a healthy alternative to the pizza and burgers also on offer on the Lido Deck.

Specialty Dining Restaurants on P&O Britannia

For an additional charge, you can book a table at one of P&O Britannia’s specialty restaurants.

You can book in advance before the cruise or once you’re onboard but be aware that once you get on the ship, dining times may be limited.

The Beach House

The cheapest specialty dining option on Britannia is The Beach House at just £7.50 for a three-course meal. It’s a pop-up restaurant situated in a section of the Horizon Court Buffet and is only open in the evenings.

I dined at The Beach House twice on my last cruise on Britannia and liked it’s casual atmosphere and tasty food.

The menu takes inspiration from Caribbean and American cuisines to deliver menu choices that are sure to appeal to families and friends looking for comfort food and hearty dishes.

The Beach House menu has vegetarian options and limited vegan options so it can be enjoyed by all preferences.

P&O Britannia Beach House

The Glass House

Situated in the ship’s atrium, The Glass House meticulously pairs light, tapas-style dishes with a selection of wines that cannot be enjoyed anyway else on P&O Britannia.

British TV presenter and wine expert, Olly Smith, has had a hand in the menu so it’s fair to say that some thought has gone into the food and drink on offer.

I’d recommend reading my blog post, dedicated to The Glass House and its menu .

The Glass House on P&O Britannia

A popular specialty restaurant on P&O Britannia is Sindhu , located on Deck 7. This restaurant offers contemporary Indian cuisine and is open for dinner every night from 6pm to 9pm and a light lunch on sea days from 11am to 4.30pm.

Sindhu has a cover charge of £20 per person, which is excellent value given the quality of the dishes. It can seat up 140 covers per night but beware, this still gets booked up in advance.

It has its own bar and lounge area in front of the restaurant that is a chilled area for pre or post-dinner drinks.

P&O Britannia Sindhu restaurant

The Epicurean Restaurant

The Epicurean Restaurant offers modern, British fine dining and is located near the Crow’s Nest on Deck 16. This specialty dining venue is open for breakfast for suite guests and dinner for any passengers with an advanced booking.

The menu features a selection of classic and contemporary dishes, along with an extensive cheese menu, hand picked by cheese expert Charlie Turnbull.

You can also enjoy Eric Lanlard’s afternoon tea at The Epicurean on sea days but should be pre-booked.

The Limelight Club

If you enjoy dinner and a show, The Limelight Club offers just that. A variety of acts perform during the cruise, which differs depending on your dates and itinerary but can be pre-booked before your cruise.

I would say 80s and 90s musical acts are the main theme of the Limelight Club.

Four menus are rotated throughout the cruise so if you decide to watch more than one act, you won’t be stuck with the same menu.

The menu is limited and I personally think that there are a few strange combinations and textures but the performances certainly make up for that.

The cover charge varies according to the performers but expect to pay between £25 and £35 for a three-course meal.

Limelight Club on P&O Britannia

Entertainment on P&O Britannia

Throughout the day on board P&O Britannia, there is entertainment and activities to get involved in.

I’d recommend watching my tour of Britannia to help you become familiarised with the entertainment venues on the ship.

You can also take a look at the 50 free things to do on Britannia included in your cruise fare.

Live music can be found in most of the bars and lounges in the evenings. If you particularly enjoy dancing, I’d recommend heading to The Crystal Room for big band music and ballroom dancing.

P&O Britannia Crystal Room

Headliners Theatre

The Headliners Theatre is a two-tier theatre seating 936 cruise passengers.

There is a selection of tribute acts, cabaret-style shows and guest performers throughout the cruise with P&O’s magic show, Astonishing, also making an appearance.

There are two or three performances per night to accommodate cruisers with different dining times so it’s very unlikely you’ll not be able to find a seat for one of the performances each evening.

The tiered seating means that you will always be able to see the stage and accessible seating is located near the Deck 7 entrance to the theatre.

Bars and Drinks on P&O Britannia

There are 13 bars onboard P&O’s Britannia so there’s no chance of going thirsty!

Beer lovers will find plenty of choice on the menu in Brodie’s, whilst wine connoisseurs should feel at home in The Glass House. Both of these venues offer drinks flights so that you can sample a selection of beer and wine before finding your favourite.

Brodie’s is P&O Cruises’ onboard pub, a hub for live music, sport and entertainment. This venue is named after P&O’s co-founder, Brodie McGhie Wilcox. You can expect British bottled beers, spirits and wine here.

This venue can get quite busy, particularly in the evenings when there are quizzes and games being hosted.

There are some quieter ‘break-out’ spaces along one side with comfy seating and the casino is situated on the opposite side. There is waiter service or you can order directly from the bar.

P&O Britannia Brodies

For classy cocktails, martinis and bellinis, I would recommend a visit to the Blue Bar in the atrium with the added bonus of people-watching.

It’s the main bar situated in the atrium and is a great place to meet friends and family before dinner. It’s very popular on formal nights as the place to sip your champagne or bellini. It gets quieter after dinner as passengers head off to the other venues so for a drinks with friends it’s a nice spot.

Live Lounge

On Deck 7 aft, the Live Lounge is an entertainment venue that offers live music and doubles as the ship’s nightclub.

On some occasions, this venue was completely empty and we popped in to get a quick drink at the bar. This is where the 80s night is held but don’t worry, fancy dress is not required or encouraged.

P&O Britannia Live Lounge

The Crow’s Nest

For fantastic front-facing views during the day and elegant drinks at night, The Crow’s Nest is a bar that can be found across the P&O fleet.

The bar isn’t open all day but in the evening it turns into a sophisticated piano bar for after-dinner drinks. This venue can be quite popular on formal nights.

If you enjoy sipping a cocktail and watching the wake view, the Sunset Bar on Deck 16 is a perfect spot. This is my favourite bar on Britannia and we enjoy spending some time here in the late afternoon, during sailaways.

P&O Britannia sunset bar

Drinks prices are fairly reasonably and are no more than what you would pay on the high street. You can see the full list of drinks on Britannia with prices to give you an idea of what’s onboard and how much you should budget for.

A drinks package may be worth purchasing for your Britannia cruise but be aware that drinks packages are not available to purchase on short cruises.

There are alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks packages as well as a child’s package, which I think is excellent value. Take a look at the options so you can decide for yourself.

It’s important to note that drinks packages cannot be shared and therefore, P&O Cruises will not allow just one person sharing a cabin to buy a drinks package.

Laundry on P&O Britannia

I’m sure that when you’re planning your cruise on Britannia, laundry services are furthest from your mind but it’s useful information to know, especially for longer cruises.

The good news is that the launderettes found on the cabin decks are free to use, all you need is washing tablets. Check my complete P&O laundry guide for all the information you need.

P&O Britannia FAQs

What is the dress code on p&o britannia.

During the day, casual holiday clothes can be worn such as shorts, t-shirt and summer dresses. You should avoid pool wear in the inside, lounges, bars and restaurants. Footwear must be worn inside.

Evening casual wear can be worn on non-formal nights of your cruise. This is best described as outfits you would wear to a nice restaurant. Smart dark denim can be worn with a nice top or open neck shirt.

Tracksuits, sports wear and trainers are not permitted in the evenings. If you are cruising in the Caribbean, tailored shorts can be worn in the buffet.

On Gala Evenings and Black Tie Nights you should wear something special. Typically on P&O Cruises, passengers choose to dress very formally with black being the overriding choice for many.

Many men decide to wear a dinner jacket and bow tie but don’t be put off by this. A dark business suit and tie is perfectly acceptable. Cocktail dresses, jumpsuits and ball gowns are worn by women.

WiFi is not included in your cruise fare with P&O Cruises so if you want to be able to connect a device to WiFi on your cruise, you will need to purchase one of three WiFi packages available, starting at £7.75 per day. These packages are cheaper if you pre-purchase them at least three days before your cruise, using your My P&O Cruises account.

I opted for the Browse Package and found it allowed me to do did everything I needed such as social media and Googling port information.

Britannia Aft Suites & Cabins

By Selbourne , October 1, 2016 in P&O Cruises ( UK )

Recommended Posts

5,000+ Club

We have cruised on Britannia twice and on both occasions had a forward facing suite. We loved the large panoramic forward facing window and position the two armchairs from the lounge in front of it to give us our own private Crows Nest. It's also great seeing the approach to ports in the morning from your bed!

There are 3 disadvantages to these suites. They are a distance from the forward lifts (and my wife uses a wheelchair so it's a pain squeezing past servicing trolleys), on one cruise (summer Med) we were disturbed a few nights by noisey crew members in the early hours outside in the crew area right at the front of the ship and, most significantly, the balcony is very shallow (as are all side balconies).

The main run of suites along the sides of the ship don't appeal as you don't get the spectacle of a panoramic forward or aft view, the balconies are the same depth and width as those at the front and you are likely to get noise from passing pedestrian traffic late at night and also kids running past (which sounds like thunder!) as its a school holiday cruise.

So, for next Summer, we have decided to have a change and have booked an aft corner suite with large wrap around balcony, plus the adjacent aft cabin for our daughters. We would have preferred a location between B and D deck but only one was left - F deck.

Having read some earlier comments on here (dangerous, I know), I am wondering if I might have made a mistake and would be particularly grateful if those who have used a rear facing suite or balcony cabin on Britannia could answer the following;

1) We deliberately avoided G deck as it is directly above the Live Lounge but have since read some reviews that noise disturbance from here can be experienced at all levels. One I read was from a passenger on B deck! I can live with noise on the balcony from rehearsals during the day, but we tend to be in bed by midnight and are concerned that we might be kept awake. How loud will the late night sound be on F deck and what's the latest time it goes on until?

2) Althouh it doesn't really make it clear on the deck plans, I have since noticed from a photo that the public deck outside the Live Lounge goes right under the aft corner suites. Is there ever a late night noise problem from rowdy passengers in this area and, if you are above the smoking side, can you smell it from your balcony two levels up?

3) I note that some suite passengers talk about having 'parties' on their large rear balconies. Has anyone at the rear been disturbed late by noise from large numbers of guests on another balcony? Drinks prior to dinner wouldn't bother me at all, but late night revellers would.

4) I've read lots about the soot issue. This worries me far less than the risk of noise or cigarette smells, but am I correct in thinking that the one advantage of a lower aft suite would be less soot than the higher levels?

Thanks in anticipation.

Cool Cruiser

we had E742 last tear no problems at all we have booked b726 for the caribean they are the best suites we have ever had with p&o

Thanks. We will be a deck lower, so closer to the Live Lounge, but that's reassuring that you experienced no issues.

Very keen to hear from others who have cruised in aft cabins and suites on Britannia (especially on F deck) in relation to the specific concerns raised in my original post.

We had an aft corner suite summer 2015 on c deck. We really like the layout of the cabin - with the balcony going round the side and two entrances to the cabin. I think the lay out is slightly different on deck F because the double doors from the bedroom are in a different position. You could hear noise from the live lounge in the cabin but not on the balcony - but it was at a very very low level. Soot was only a problem on two days (when it was really bad - big chunks of it!) The thing that made us think that we might not book these cabins again was the vibration in the cabin - which seemed to be the worse than any other ships we have sailed on. Perhaps in was something to do with the route we were taking ( to the canaries). Hope this is helpful

We've had 2 aft corner suites C736 in May 2015 & B726 2 weeks ago.

We've never had any problems with noise from the shows or other passengers on their balconies. The only noise / vibrations you get are when the ship is docking.

As someone else has hinted at, the layout of the F & D deck aft suites are different due to the position of the balcony doors.

We'd book another aft suite again without hesitation.

We got what I thought were excessive vibrations when the ship was at sea - not just docking ( which you would expect). As I suggested above, it perhaps varies depending on speed, weather conditions etc. We were perhaps unlucky.

Presto2

We had aft cabin f729 and loved it. Just a little soot one sea day and alittle noise from the lounge .... but just the distant bass beat.

Having read some earlier comments on here (dangerous, I know), I am wondering if I might have made a mistake and would be particularly grateful if those who have used a rear facing suite or balcony cabin on Britannia could answer the following;   1) We deliberately avoided G deck as it is directly above the Live Lounge but have since read some reviews that noise disturbance from here can be experienced at all levels. We had B702 last year (one on the port side) but decided this year to have a rear Suite, namely B724 which is one overlooking the wake, right in the centre, with a deep balcony, so we can certainly give you some help with your queries:-

1. We never experienced any problems with noise from the Live Lounge. The music here ends around midnight so if you do hear anything it won't continue after that time.

2. When we had B702 last year we were above the deck area next to the Live Lounge. There was never any large scale noise from there, but there certainly were people out talking and, because we were on the port side, smoking, and, although we were a long way up, the smoke did waft up. It doesn't overly bother me, but my husband didn't like it. IMO it would not be a major problem.

3. We have seen 'parties' given in near by Suites. In fact one of the Suites just below us and to the right (a corner one) on our last cruise had a 'do' on the last formal night - it was no problem at all. The ones we have seen have never been late, always pre-dinner, and low key. Canape and Champagne given out by the Butler to a smallish number of guests. I would be extremely surprised if you experienced a problem.

4. The soot. Yes, you get it; you wipe it up with one of the blue towels - not the white ones! - and enjoy the balcony! I would be surprised if it bothers you unduly on F deck. We were on B deck and there was, at times, quite a lot of it. It tends to be more prevalent in the mornings when it has had all night to settle, plus the ship is usually going a bit faster at night and therefore puts out more soot. It really wasn't much of a problem during the day. We didn't let it bother us and enjoyed our holiday!

Hope this helps. :)

PS. Funnily enough we've wanted to try a front Suite - could you give a description of what they're like as you can hardly find anything on them on the internet!

Thank you so much for answering each of my questions and to other posters for addressing some of them. I'd still be extremely interested to have the same questions answered by anyone who has stayed in F730.

I've just checked my Horizon's from our last Britannia cruise and noticed that the late disco in the Live Lounge doesn't even start until various times between 11pm and midnight, so if there is a noise disturbance it will most definitely go on until the early hours of the morning. Again, if anyone has been in F730 and can assure me that it's not enough to keep you awake I would be extremely grateful as this is concerning me.

Interesting to read that you could smell cigarette smoke as high up as B deck, but I note that you were in a side suite right above where the smokers tend to congregate (nearest the door). Again, very keen to know if you can smell smoke from the balcony of F730 given that it is further away from this area, albeit still above an area that people can smoke in, as I would dislike that intensely.

I'm reassured that any suite balcony parties are pre dinner drinks rather than inconsiderate late night noise and am now reassured by the responses. The soot issue sounds like an inconvenience but not (on F deck at least) a show stopper.

Interested to hear the comments re excessive vibration at the rear. Not sure what to make of that as I don't know if it would disturb sleep. I remember dining in 17 (now Epicurean) one night on Azura and everything was rattling!

If nobody on here has stayed in F730 perhaps someone has stayed in G732. All of the issues I am concerned about would be worse in G732 (if at all), so if they aren't a problem on G deck then they shouldn't be on F deck. This would give a useful perspective alongside the positive feedback from the person who stayed in E742 (for which I was grateful).

Regarding the question about front suites. These are the only ones we have stayed in so can't really compare and contrast. They do however have significantly larger bedrooms that the other suites. To give you some idea, the King Size bed takes up less than a quarter of the space, albeit the ceiling slopes down on one side. We take the two armchairs from the lounge (leaving the sofa) which makes that area spacious and create our own private Crows Nest using the large panoramic forward facing window. It is also possible to watch arrivals into ports from your bed. The suites are very quiet, other than a few nights in the summer cruise when rowdy crew members were outside in the crew area (at the very front of the ship) in the early hours and woke us up. The biggest negative of these suites is the balcony, which is very shallow (you have to sit at an angle) and is shaded quite a lot of the time by the bridge which overhangs above it. Hope that helps but feel free to ask anything else.

So, finally, a further call for past passengers from F730 or G732 to answer my specific questions as others have kindly done for higher decks.

The music won't keep you awake in f730 unless you are a very, very light sleeper. We had a quick peek in to this suite on the last day when everyone had left (cabin steward said it was ok) and it looked really lovely. Generally it is a really quiet part of the ship, being at the back and there isn't a lot of people going past. Other parts of the ship were noisy apparently, but we had no issues at all.

Just remember that it is a long walk to the lifts.

Thanks Presto2. I am a light sleeper but your comments are most reassuring. I am 50/50 about switching to one of the front suites that we like, but my wife and two grown up daughters would like to stick with the aft suite and adjoining cabin for the better balconies.

Out of interest, did you feel that the vibrations when at sea (as mentioned by another respondent) were problematic on F deck? I hadn't really considered that. Quite used to noise and vibration from thrusters when manoeuvring in and out of ports, but constant vibration at sea would be tiresome.

Interesting that you say the aft suites and cabins are a long walk to the lift as the deck plans don't give that impression. It looks considerably less distance to the rear lifts than the walk from the suites at the front of the ship to the front lifts.

Hi, I mentioned the walk as people tended to moan about it when Britannia first set sail. I suppose it wasn't as far as on the Celebrity Silhouette which was a real trek :-)

We didn't notice too much vibration .. just a tiny, tiny, tiny bit at sea I suppose, but we had this on the Celebrity Silhouette as well but worse. To be honest I hardly even think about it - hence the tiny, tiny, tiny - and we just LOVED F729. It was noisy when docking but you know that, but if we sailed on Britannia again we would most definitely book this cabin again with no worries at all. We've seen the cabin you booked and it looks fab and the view of the wake of the ship is stunning.

You might want to look the visitor posts on the P&O Facebook page - there is one about the noise from the live lounge in an aft suite. You might be able to message the person who made the post to find out which one it was.
Thanks. I found the post but the person doesn't state which level they were on. They might have been on G deck immediately above the Live Lounge (which I would think is subject to excessive noise) but of course they could have been higher. I don't use Facebook so can't pursue.

We have been in G733. No noise problems from the Live Lounge.

Thanks. I note that your cabin was on the Port (smoking) side as ours is. Could you smell cigarettes when on your balcony from people using the smoking area outside the Live Lounge, as I see that it extends to the area under the side part of the aft corner suites?

You do get strong vibrations when the ship is arriving in port, but not otherwise. In fact Britannia is one of the best ships at sea that we've been on - she seems to glide! Mind you, we didn't have any rough seas.

The aft Suites are NOT far from the lifts and rear stairs. They are extremely close! The centre lifts are a long way off in comparison, and the front stairs and lifts are miles away - a hell of a walk to breakfast! (Worth it though! :))

Thanks for the description of the front Suites. We'd be fine with the balcony, having had a side one at the back, but are all the balconies in shade. Looking at the plan you would think that lower front Suites wouldn't be so badly affected?

Gymbod

Not sure if this helps but we've been on D deck aft on Azura and never heard anything in Manhatten although some people on E deck have done. So not sure if this would be similar on Friday deck Britannia? We'll be on E deck Britannia in December 😎

Many thanks to all those who have responded so far - please continue to add if you have any more feedback.

I now feel more reassured about the noise from the Live Lounge, balcony 'parties', soot and vibration.

The one big outstanding question is regarding disturbance (fumes or noise) from smokers using the outside deck alongside the Live Lounge port side.

So, if anyone has stayed in one of the PORT side aft corner suites (B726 / C736 / D738 / E742 or F730) on Britannia, or perhaps one of the side balcony cabins adjacent to them, could you please let me know whether you could smell cigarette fumes from your balcony and whether or not you were disturbed late at night by smokers in this area making noise.

I asked the poster which room had noise from the live lounge and it was B724!

This is an aft suite but not a corner one.

Incidentally I stand by my comment above that I though the vibration in the our room on c deck was bad compared to other ships I have been on. However, others have said that there wasn't bad vibration when they sailed, so I wonder if there was some sort of temporary problem on our cruise (perhaps with the engines)?

Many thanks for finding that out for me - very kind of you.

That's the 2nd person I've heard of who complained about noise from the Live Lounge as high up as B deck which is odd when others on F and even G deck have said it wasn't a problem. All very confusing. I wonder if noise on B deck comes from above (sailaways etc) as its close to public areas rather than the Live Lounge, although I doubt that's the source of late night noise.

Still undecided. Answers to the port side smoking questions (noise and fumes from the smoking area outside Live Lounge) posted earlier could be the decider.

In F729 we were right by the side of F730 and at no time did we smell even a small wiff of smoke ... and I really, really hate cigarette smoke and can sniff it out at 100 yards !

Thanks, but F729 is next to F731 (the opposite side of the ship to ours) and both are on the Starboard (non smoking side), so you wouldn't have experienced any issues.

Like you, I can smell a cigarette at 100 yards and it spoilt the enjoyment of several balconies on cruises prior to the ban. I hadn't given it much thought until I noticed on a photo that the smoking area outside the Live Lounge extends under the sides of the port corner suites.

Sorry, I took it for granted that you were by the side of us. It may have been one of the reasons we booked that side. Is the other side available?

Britannia Itineraries

Britannia review, review of britannia.

The 2015-built MV Britannia cruise ship is the largest vessel in the P&O UK's fleet. From this Royal-class are also the Princess Cruises liners Royal Princess (2013), Regal Princess (2014), Majestic Princess (2017), Sky Princess (2019), Enchanted Princess (2021) and Discovery Princess (2022). These are the ever biggest cruise vessels constructed by Fincantieri (Italy).

The vessel (IMO number 9614036) is currently UK- flagged (MMSI 235106595) and registered in Southampton .

History - construction and ownership

P&O Cruises is a subsidiary company and two brands owned by Carnival Corporation - P&O UK and P&O Australia. In 2000, P&O Cruises became subsidiary of P&O Princess Cruises, which merged with Carnival Corporation in 2003. P and O is the world's oldest cruise company, starting passenger shipping operations in 1822 on the routes connecting England with Iberia.

PO Britannia cruise ship

The 3700-passenger ship Britannia is the biggest ever cruise liner built especially for the British source market. The £500 million new-build is a result of four years of planning. P&O Britannia is 25,000 tons heavier than Azura and Ventura sister ships (previously the largest vessels in the P&O fleet). The Britannia ship alone boosts the capacity of the P and O line by almost a quarter – 24%. Britannia impresses with her Union Jack livery and offers British-style cruising with modern look and feel. Her homeport is Southampton .

Britannia has the most popular features of the P&O fleet, such as The Crow's Nest Bar, Atul Kochar's Sindhu restaurant, Olly Smith's The Glass House, as well as brand new amenities. P&O says that Britannia cruise ship engine power output (MAN diesel engines) is equivalent to 70 Challenger tanks’ power or 86 supercars Bugatti Veyron. Britannia cruise ship is also the greenest yet and designed to deliver greater levels of environmental and operational efficiency. The new form of the hull is expected to reduce fuel consumption by approx 20%. Along with the hull design, P and O changed the hull art as well – with the Union Jack flag 94 m / 308 ft long.

The Britannia ship is the eighth vessel to join P&O UK's fleet and named "to resonate with the forward-looking mood in Britain". Britannia is considered to be the most fitting name because of its famous long heritage, so suitable for the newest P&O addition – the favourite cruise line of Britain. Apparently, HM The Queen gave her permission to P&O use the name.

P&O Cruises Britannia cruise ship model

Two ships connected to the company have been previously named "Britannia". The first one entered service for General Steam Navigation Company in 1835. The second one, together with three other boats, was ordered to mark Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee (50th anniversary of her accession to the throne) and entered service in 1887. The "Golden Jubilee ship" had passenger capacity 410 (160 second-class plus 250 first-class) and cargo capacity 4000 tons. In 1888, on this Britannia sailed (to Bombay India ) Winston Churchill, with his hussar regiment, and then fought on India's North-West Frontier (present-day Pakistan's KPK-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province/occupied by the British between 1849-1947 via the East India Company).

Royal Yacht Britannia was the vessel decommissioned in 1997 by John Major government, but the name has been associated with P&O for a long time. In June 2013 a management shake-up at Carnival UK operations later saw the exit of Carol Marlow- the former managing director, and Peter Shanks – ex-boss of Cunard brand. Britannia is the first vessel for P&O Cruises since then. These departures were linked to boosting younger cruisers’ proportion at the UK arm of Carnival Cruises. Everyone who believes in the growth of the cruise industry now expects the new P and O cruise ship Britannia to mark a new era of success.

Her Majesty The Queen (1926-2022) was the royal godmother. She named the ship on March 10th, 2015, at Southampton's Ocean Terminal. HM The Queen was accompanied by Prince Philip and The Duke of Edinburgh. After the royal words "May God bless her and all who sail in her", The Queen pressed the button that released a Nebuchadnezzar wine (a giant bottle of sparkling wine, the equivalent of 20 regular bottles) to be smashed against the hull. This most special event was also marked by live band music performances – Her Majesty's Royal Marines band, and the Irish Guards’ Regimental Band. Also present at the naming ceremony were the Carnival Corporation's front men Micky Arison (chairman) and Arnold Donald (CEO), and also David Dingle (chairman of Carnival UK).

Decks and Cabins

MS Britannia staterooms (a total of 1837 total, in 35 grades) include 64x Suites, 1298x Balconies, 448x Inside and 27x Studios (single-occupancy cabins). The ship has no Oceanview cabins. Most staterooms are Balcony (sized 175-290 ft2). Cabin balconies are rather small (sized 35 ft2 / 3 m2). The largest accommodations are the Owner's Suites (470 ft2/44 m2, with terrace sized 210 ft2/20 m2).

The boat has 17 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 8 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The rise on the world stage of British cooking is reflected in Britannia's dining options. The Epicurean Restaurant specializes in fine dining and molecular gastronomy. It features both contemporary and traditional dishes. The Glass House is home to nearly 40 different wines from all around the world, including labels from Greece, Croatia, and Japan. Wine expert Olly Smith pairs wine with food from the menu, featuring dishes like a Wagyu burger, sea bass ceviche with lime, lobster buns, Morecombe Bay and Devon crab sliders. The first British ship to offer cooking lessons at sea, The Cookery Club provides guests an opportunity to hone their cooking techniques under the watchful eye of food experts and chefs. Aboard the Britannia, passengers can cook alongside baking queen Mary Berry and TV chef James Martin. Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar teaches guests how to make dishes from Sindhu - his signature restaurant. Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White also runs a class, demonstrating his famous dishes whilst passengers cook alongside him.

While P&O UK has already linked up with celebrity chefs for Cookery Club school, Britannia will also act as a backdrop to the first at sea celebrity-led TV cooking contest, Battlechefs, from April 4. On April 2, 2016, the ship will be the setting for another first as she will host live Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway from the top deck.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

MV Britannia ship design is a masterpiece created by Richmond International – London-based architects, who anticipate today's Britain tastes. They are well known for creating “flowing” coherent interiors but with each area having an individual identity. While the Britannia ship may be a large vessel, every inch of the interior was carefully considered as to become breathtaking and striking. MV Britannia was designed to make guests feel special, and all of her was planned with flair and imagination. The Britannia ship offers the very best of Britain's contemporary design and an unprecedented number of facilities for passengers.

The vessel provides the best classic features of Aurora and Oriana , and a wide choice of the contemporary variety of Azura and Ventura. 13 cafes and restaurants, 13 bars, 15 passenger decks, 4 swimming pools, 9 jacuzzis – what more of all these could a traveler wish for? Another good decision on a practical level is the greater number of single cabins - more than on any other ship. Additional amenities include Complimentary 24-hour Room-Service, Internet/WiFi access, supervised kids program, laundry/self-serve laundromats, nursery.

The roundtrips include Caribbean Islands (from Barbados), ex-Southampton voyages along the Atlantic Coast, Baltic, Mediterranean, Canary Islands, "mini-cruises" to Guernsey (Channel Islands), Transatlantic repositioning crossings.

Britannia returned to the UK/Southampton on March 25, 2016 (a year after the naming ceremony led by HM The Queen) being homeported in Barbados throughout winter 2015-2016. From the UK, the ship operated short-breaks to Northern Europe and longer cruises to the Mediterranean (during summer). Brittania Suites - B1 or B5?

By BarneyCat , March 24, 2019 in P&O Cruises ( UK )

Cool Cruiser

We’re looking to book a cruise on Brittania and have the choice of B1 or B5 class suites. We aren’t usually fussed about positioning on the ship - so being mid ship hold no special value for us. The extra cabin space in B5 makes it appealing. Are we missing anything, or is the B1 just more expensive because it’s in a (widely considered) better position?

thanks for any advice/thoughts.

We’ve gone for the B5. Videos of them on YouTube look amazing.

5,000+ Club

The B5 suites at the very front of Britannia re often overlooked and, in our opinion, are the best ones on the ship.

We wouldn't go midships on a family ship as passing noise (esp kids running along corridors) can be extremely irritating.

We had an aft suite on Britannia and wouldn't repeat it. The balconies are vast, but blighted with soot, vibration and noise from the Live Lounge (even on F deck).

By contrast, we have had two cruises in B5 forward suites and much preferred them. Rubbish balconies (but we don't sunbathe) but the bedrooms are more than twice the size of the midships and aft suites (as they have sloping ceilings, P&O doesn't include the whole area in the stated square footage) plus you have a fantastic forward facing panoramic window (In addition to the side balcony doors) that gives you a superb sail in to port from your bed! There is also plenty of room to put two chairs in front of the window to provide a private Crows Nest - ideal when the ship is busy. Being at the end of the corridors there is no passing noise.

Thank you! That’s exactly the kind of reassurance we were hoping for! We’ve got C102 and a google search bought up a couple of great videos on you tube. I’m really excited now. We’ve been all over ships - and it really doesn’t matter to us. We like aft for quietness and the views (lst cruise we had the penthouse on Ventura right at the back) but fwd looks amazing too and like you we don’t sunbathe on a balcony.

Something to look forward to! Hooray!

Excellent choice. If we go back on Britannia we would book a B5 forward suite in a heartbeat, but never an aft one. Once bitten...

Anyway, now we've got you sorted, we need to delete this thread to keep it our secret!

Britannia is a lovely ship and is unwisely overlooked by many P&O regulars.

The Epicurean on Britannia is our favourite restaurant at sea. As suite passengers you can use it for breakfast, which is a very civilised start to the day. The Beach House, Sindhu and Limelight Club are also very good on Britannia. The Glasshouse on Britannia is our least favourite in the fleet, but no ship is perfect.

As a suite passenger, you will also board no later than 12.30pm on your first day, which is very handy.

Have a great cruise.

Edit - Just noticed that you had a Penthouse on Ventura. We have had one of those also and loved it (none of the issues that we had with an aft suite on Britannia) but, balconies aside, the suites on Britannia are much nicer. The bathrooms are two classes up from the other ships and the huge interactive & on-demand TV's are brilliant.

netchells

We had a corner aft on G deck Britannia and it was fabulous. No noise from the Live Lounge and the odd speck of soot. Would definitely book it again 🙂

Have booked F730 for Transatlantic next year so be interesting to see how it shapes up to the many reviews.

Please let us know as we've booked this for Xmas 2020 and worried now about noise from Live lounge and smoking drifting from the smoking area below.

We've had starboard last time D & E deck and they were fabulous, F730 was the only aft available and bookings only just opened 😲

F730 was the aft suite that we had. Like you it was the only one left and we were very concerned about the smoking area below (we absolutely detest the smell and I can smell it from a considerable distance). I can reassure you that it was never a problem.

As for the Live Lounge, the main issue was live music. In these instances it was loud enough that you could tell what the song was. We tend to go to bed earlier than many so it was irritating, but if you are late birds then it won’t be. When it’s recorded music (e.g. late night disco) it was O.K.

Soot it is an odd one. Some days there was none. Other days there was a lot. It depends on weather conditions (wind direction and if it’s wet or dry). The cabin stewards hosed down the balcony every time we had it but they cannot shift it all.

Vibration was was an issue. Less the vibration itself but the fact that it caused a lot of rattles and I spent a lot of time tracing them and muffling them. Not a major problem but irritating.

The biggest problem we had with F730 was plumbing noises. Just inside the suite there are two panel doors that access a big plant room with the plumbing for a number of cabins. Every time the people in the suite below flushed their loo (which they did a lot, inc all through the night) we had a loud metallic bang, which made you jump. The maintenance people were in and out of our cabin throughout the cruise trying to fix it. They made it better after many attempts but you could still hear it.

As as a result of all these issues we were compensated heavily, but would have preferred to have had a hassle free cruise.

By way of balance, the balcony is huge and if you can live with the soot is far superior to those of the forward or mid ships suites.

Hello Selbourne.

Thanks for the detailed info on this suite. We had a D suite 739? and this was a simliar layout to F so regarding the plumbing we heard a suction noise but it wasn't too much of a problem, but it seems you had more of a problem on F, but maybe it was just something loose that needed fixing?

We go to bed around 10 - 11pm so  I'm a bit worried about how long the live music goes on until?

Not too worried about the soot, we know it's there but it doesn't seem to be as bad in the Caribbean for some reason?

Good news about the smoking though 👍🏼

I think I'll keep checking to see if anyone cancels in the next 20 months 😁

We had a side suite last year and although there was hardly any vibration the balconies were a huge disappointment and we like to use the balcony a lot especially sea days.

If you are used to aft suites then it should be fine. As you say, the soot is a lot less troublesome in hot and dry conditions. The worst we had was after a rainy first night when the balcony got covered in it.

As you know, the loos can ‘bang’ as they shut  off after refilling, and it was this causing it, but this was like someone dropping a metal bin lid on a tiled floor. They changed various pipes and it was a lot better, but having the plumbing room for multiple cabins inside a suite seemed daft to me (explains the different layout on D and F decks). Hopefully we have sorted the worst of it out for you 😉

I managed to trace the worst of the rattles caused by the vibration and stop them. One was one of the air con duct covers in the bedroom (which I stopped by pulling it down slightly) and one was the soap dish tray above the bath, which I stopped by rolling up a hand towel and wedging under it! Seems trivial but they were irritating, especially when you have paid thousands for a suite.

The Live Lounge noise didn’t keep us awake. As I say it was only a problem with live music which tended to end around 11 ish. Again, it was another irritant which compounded with the others.

The main Cancer Corner (sorry, smoking area) tended to be immediately outside the door leading out from forward of the Live Lounge, so forward of where we were. People rarely came down as far as under our balcony and, even when they did, we couldn’t smell it. If you cannot move up then I really can reassure you that this won’t trouble you.

Thanks for the reassurance Selbourne, I'm sure we'll enjoy it but will check regularly in case anothe aft becomes available 😎

This Small-ship Cruise Line Just Announced 2 New All-suite Vessels Will Join Its Fleet

Windstar Cruises is scheduled to launch Star Seeker in 2025 and Star Explorer in 2026.

Boutique small-ship cruise line Windstar Cruises is growing its fleet, adding two 224-passenger vessels — both acquisitions from Mystic Cruises —  in the next two years. Star Seeker is slated to make its debut in December 2025 and Star Explorer is scheduled to follow a year later in December 2026.

Star Seeker is under construction, while Star Explorer is currently sailing as Quark Expeditions' World Explorer. B oth ships will be reworked to include signature features of Windstar ships, from a watersports platform to Owners Suites with wraparound balconies to a whirlpool on the bow.

Dining, in particular, will be a main focus on the ships, as Windstar has a partnership with the James Beard Foundation. The ships' dining options spaces will be expanded to include the on-deck Star Grill, the casual Yacht Club café and lounge, and a re-imagined Amphora main dining room, which will now have outdoor seating.

“Our goal was to ensure these ships are unmistakably Windstar, and a significant amount of effort has gone into achieving this,” Christopher Prelog, Windstar Cruises’ president, said in a statement provided to Travel + Leisure . “We are thrilled for this expansion, building on the success of our game-changing Star Class in small-ship cruising with guests and travel partners, while offering new experiences. This growth reflects the dedication of our incredible crew and team, allowing us to broaden our destination portfolio and even bring one of our Wind Class sail ships back to Tahiti.”

Though both ships have ice-strengthened hulls capable of sailing in the polar regions, Windstar doesn't currently operate such itineraries, focusing primarily on the Americas, Europe, and the Pacific Islands. But these new ships may open doors to adventures in the years to come.

“As part of our company’s expanding portfolio, Windstar Cruises is poised for remarkable growth and an exciting future ahead," Andrew N. Todd, president and CEO of parent company Xanterra Travel Collection, said in a statement. "We’re excited about the possibilities of where Windstar will sail and the opportunities it brings our officers, crew and staff, and our guests.”

Itineraries and booking information for Star Seeker will be announced in June 2024. You can sign up for updates at windstarcruises.com/newships .

See Four Seasons' upcoming ultra-luxury cruise with a $350,000-a-week suite bigger than most homes

  • Four Seasons says it will begin sailing an  ultra-luxury yacht cruise in January 2026.
  • The 222-guest vessel would have 95 spacious suites and 11 dining options — but food wouldn't be free.
  • The largest suite would have four floors and bedrooms, a spa, and a price of $350,000 per sailing.

Insider Today

Four Seasons plans to expand its high-end hotels and resorts portfolio with a luxury 222-guest cruise ship.

The company says the 95-suite vessel will debut in January 2026 and cost a minimum of $20,000 per weeklong sailing.

For that price, the luxury hospitality giant says travelers would enjoy a one-to-one guest-to-staff ratio and massive suites spanning as many as four floors. If all goes as planned, the 679-foot-long Four Seasons I could become one of the most expensive and opulent options in the cruise industry.

The ultra-plush 14-deck Four Seasons I is scheduled for 19 voyages in 2026 to more than 130 Caribbean and Mediterranean ports.

Reservations opened two weeks ago. Those interested can register to join a waitlist or book through a travel agent.

So far, "sales have been very encouraging, and the demand is exciting to see," Thatcher Brown, chief commercial officer and head of joint operations for Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings, told Business Insider in a statement. The company is a joint owner and operator of Four Seasons Yachts.

Renderings make the Four Seasons I look as opulent as the brand's land-based properties.

Four Seasons says its vessel will have 95 suites ranging from 537 to 9,975 square feet, some with three bedrooms.

The smallest suite starts at $19,700 for a five-night roundtrip voyage to Athens, Greece.

No windowless interior cabins here: Like other ultra-luxe cruises, the suites would all have terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Customers could expect upscale amenities like a walk-in closet, down-filled duvets and pillows, and marble dual vanity bathrooms, per Four Seasons.

The most premium suites would also feature additional accommodations for "personal assistants," such as au pairs or security personnel.

Some options, like the 7,952-square-foot Loft Suite, could be adjoined with seven other cabins to accommodate up to 20 people.

Without connecting cabins, the Loft Suite would already have three bedrooms and bathrooms, a powder room, and a sauna.

Others, like the largest Funnel Suite, would have its own spa and kitchen.

Four Seasons says the 9,975-square-foot mansion, partially perched in the ship's glass-lined funnel , will span four floors, four bathrooms, three bedrooms, and three powder rooms.

Not to mention the private elevator, pool, and $350,000-a-voyage price tag.

Accommodations of this price and size are generally unheard of in the cruise industry.

Luxury operator Silversea says the largest suite on its upcoming 728-guest Silver Ray will be 1,324 square feet. Competitor Regent Seven Seas' new Seven Seas Grandeur debuted in 2023 with a more expansive six-guest 4,443-square-foot option.

Both suites' sizes and prices — Regent's starts at $42,000 per person for a total of $252,000 at maximum occupancy — would be stunted by Four Seasons' promise of a 9,975-square-foot, $350,000 floating mansion.

But cabins with six-digit prices aren't unheard of.

While not a luxury cruise line, Royal Caribbean's popular three-floor townhouse on the new Icon of the Seas is being booked at an average of $100,000 a week — although it's about four times smaller than Four Seasons' largest.

Royal Caribbean and other mass-market cruise lines are beloved, in part, for their unlimited complimentary food options.

Regent Seven Seas' all-inclusive fare also covers caviar, foie gras, and Champagne.

But don't expect any of these to be free on the Four Seasons I.

Breakfast would be complimentary. Lunch, dinner, and booze would not.

The vessel's 11 restaurants and lounges would be priced similarly to Four Seasons' on-land properties. (A dinner entrée at its resort on the Caribbean island of Nevis — also one of the ship's destinations — ranges from $34 to $163.)

The pricing structure may sound odd to most cruise traditionalists. (Hey, at least WiFi would be "free.")

But some of the ship's amenities could look familiar: Like most cruise liners, the Four Seasons I would have a pool, spa, and clubs for children and teens.

The company also promises a lounge and marina that will open onto the water, giving guests direct access to activities like snorkeling or windsurfing.

Four Seasons Yachts plans to take delivery of its $399 million vessel, now being built by famed Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, in late 2025.

A second Fincantieri-built ship would join the hospitality company's fleet the following year. The next vessel would cost more than 400 million euros, about $429.2 million, Four Seasons says.

This isn’t Four Seasons' first foray into itinerary-based vacations.

The company has also found "tremendous success" in its private jet-based "cruises," Alejandro Reynal, the president and CEO of Four Seasons, told BI in a statement.

Its 2024 vacation-by-air itineraries started at $135,000 for a 16-day Asia tour. Demand has been growing, he said, "signaling that luxury travelers are looking for immersive, exclusive, end-to-end travel journeys that allow them to explore the world with their favorite brands."

But its new ultra-luxe cruise arm would be entering an increasingly crowded luxury market, soon to be dominated by like-minded hospitality giants.

High-end Aman Resorts and Orient Express plan to launch their own luxury cruises in 2027 and 2026, respectively.

Staying ahead of the competition, Ritz-Carlton debuted its first 149-suite Evrima yacht cruise in 2021, with a second 224-cabin ship scheduled to begin sailing later this year. Its least expensive itinerary is currently $5,100 per person for a six-night voyage from Barbados to Puerto Rico in early 2025.

Interested in a hotelier-owned vacation at sea but don't want to pay the luxury price tag? Margaritaville's cruise is an affordable $75 for two nights.
