Why 5 stars? Because this was an amazing way to see Amsterdam. --- --- --- In planning our one day to Amsterdam, I assumed we would be doing a canal cruise, but hadn't put much more thought into it than that. When we arrived at our hotel, the concierge asked if we wanted to sign up for a cruise that would pick us up right in front of the door at 3pm that afternoon. That was about as convenient as possible for us, so we signed up for it without knowing much more than that. I was a little hesitant about spending 70 euros on it, but it ended up being worth it. There were only 12 of us on board, plus the captain, who was American, but with Dutch roots. He was the perfect host: informative and entertaining, but also low key. He offered us drinks throughout the 90 minute tour, as well. I liked that the boat we were on did have some cover, but it was also open in parts too. I sat in the very back, which allowed me to get a little warmth from the covered area, but I was still able to get some unobstructed photos. If you are looking for a canal cruise in Amsterdam, I can't think of a single negative about our experience with this one!

I can't imagine how our excursion with Leemstar could have been better. We had a group of 8 take the canal cruise. Our captain, Floris, was outstanding. He was warm, welcoming and very knowledgeable. He made us feel at home immediately. The boat was very special: all wood, comfortable seating benches and closed in with windows and open areas for easy photo taking. Floris was knowledgeable and asked if we wished commentary, which we wanted. The commentary included maps to help orient us to the trip. We booked a 'cruise' for 5:30 pm but our taxi did not show up at the hotel. I called Leemstar and shortly received a phone call from Floris checking on our progress. Fortunately we obtained alternate taxis and made it on time, but having Floris check with us relieved anxiety. We had ordered two cheese boards and drinks. There was beer, Prosecco, wine and soft drinks. It was all delicious and added a special touch to our cruising. The canals and river area we travelled were gorgeous. Floris' commentary was fascinating and humorous. He is a very articulate. Again, after a Viking Cruise and excursions totaling 19 days, everyone in our group thought this canal cruise was one the the top highlights of our entire trip. You won't go wrong booking a cruise with Leemstar.

This is an absolutely incredible way to see the city. A group of 6 (and a baby) booked a private tour, and couldn't be any happier with the service. Our host captain was very knowledgeable in all things nautical, as well as being well versed in the city's history and culture. A few meats and cheeses were provided to snack on, as well as both red and white wines, and Heinekens. I honestly couldn't recommend a service more. This is the best way to immerse yourself into the city, and doing it privately is a lot more intimate than the larger boats you see buzzing around.

I took this canal tour and a bike tour while in Amsterdam with my family. We were 4 people and this tour cost us about €200, not to mention the €6 for a can of Heineken and a soda. The tour was 90 min long and quite informative. However, it was a bit dry, and I found myself dozing off during the tour, but that's expected because it's a quiet canal and you're literally being rocked to sleep in a boat. If you have kids, they may get a little bored. If you're with a significant other, it's a bit more intimate if you're in the back and just enjoy the canal. This tour is not worth it in my opinion because you'll get a similar experience with the countless other boat tours offered in Amsterdam - almost half the price. Just do a little research from Trip Advisor or something and you'll find some small boat tour. I'd also recommend, if you do in fact decide to take this tour, BRING YOUR OWN BEER. Seriously. You can pickup a 6 pack for like €10 of Heineken from a grocery store across the street and some cheese and crackers.

We had such an amazing afternoon with Arnout. The boat was beautiful and he had the knowledge and information about Amsterdam that we were hoping for. It was a wonderful experience and highly recommend this company over all the options available!

We went for a canal cruise with my wife and son. Our skipper was Jack and he was great. He grew up in Amsterdam on the canals and take pride in the history. The boat was beautiful and comfortable. Booking was just a simple email with no hassles.

My family spent Christmas in Amsterdam this year and one of the highlights of our trip was a canal cruise on Christmas Eve with Arnout. We got to see the Festival of Lights, which was fantastic, but the best part was of the cruise was the information Arnout shared about the canals and their surroundings. And while I'm sure he must impart this information daily, he managed to make it sound fresh and exciting to us.

My husband and I had an exceptional private tour of Amsterdam on the Leemstar, hosted by our Captain, Sjoern. We were greeted with espressos when we entered the boat, which was a nice touch. We learned all about the canals, architecture, culture, and history of Amsterdam while casually cruising through the canals. Perfect way to experience the city!

Arnout is a wonderful host; his boat a beautiful antique and his knowledge of the city and its canals is wonderful. The boat is a wonderful, small, intimate setting. Highly recommended over the commercial boat tours.

Great canal cruise. Wish I could remember our guides name. He had longer wavey hair. Around 28. Grew up in Amsterdam. Sweetheart. Had tons of info and was super safe on very crazy busy day. Would highly Recommend. The city can be very different from the canals.

The electric boat is beautiful and spaciously seated all the guests. The included drinks coupled with the phenomenal tour led by Floris made for a truly memorable evening. We had about 10 people on the boat with us and it was the perfect amount of people. We saw many tour boats going around with upwards of 30-40 people. Mike was our captain and very knowledgeable about the area and gave a great tour. Booking the 8pm start time was wonderful as we were on the boat when the city lights began to turn on. We were met by the appropriately named “Skip” who greeted us on board. We were lucky to just have 5 of us in total and were asked if any of us were on a tight schedule as due to the light festival he wanted to show us a few more sights. None of us were so we embarked on an excellent 2 hour tour of the canals with expert commentary from Skip. Every photo opportunity was well planned and our glasses were kept topped up whilst we enjoyed the sights.
