So, without further ado, here are some of the best cheap Caribbean destinations to add to your tropical bucket list. Whether you want history, marine life, or simply to relax on a bright white beach, these cheap islands to visit will give you the perfect Caribbean vacation.

Mexico is a country with an incredibly rich history. Ancient Mayan culture dominates a lot of their past and you can also find one of the 7 Wonders of the World near Cancun.

Cozumel is a little island off the coast of Playa del Carmen. It’s fairly undeveloped (one of the reasons it’s one of the cheapest Caribbean islands to visit) so will be a massive hit with anyone who’s not a huge fan of over-touristy destinations.

Famous for its scuba diving, coral reefs, wonderful marine life, Mayan ruins and, super relaxed vibe, you’re sure to have a great time in Cozumel.

In total, the journey will take about 2 hours, so it may not work depending on your schedule. but if you have a little time to kill, why not turn it into a multi-destination trip and spend a couple of days in Cancun first? Jamaica is my all-time favourite tropical island the place to go if you’re looking for a cultural escape.

The island is mostly known for its chilled-out vibe, reggae music, fiery food, and great nightlife. But you’ll also find that it’s a great destination for eco lovers with plenty of stunning scenery, white sand beaches, waterfalls, and secret coves.

There are plenty of affordable inclusive resorts, especially in Ocho Rio or Negril and you can also find cheap direct flights to Kingston or Montego Bay. Be sure to visit the Bob Marley Museum while you’re there and experience the true Rastafarian culture.

This tropical island has been one of the most visited islands in the Caribbean for years because it’s perfect for both a romantic vacation and a holiday with the kids. 

And what makes this destination exceptionally famous are the turquoise waters and the incredibly white sand of its beautiful beaches, which you’ll have to see to believe. 

Looking at a map, you will find that Aruba is one of the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao), known as the Dutch Antilles. These islands sit along the same line and are a bit safer in the September hurricane season than other nearby islands.

Also, Flamingo Beach is mainly for couples, and children can only be on the island from 9 am to 10 am.

Curacao is another tropical paradise not far from South America. Plus, travelers who come here in the fall and summer will experience fantastic weather and lots of sun. 

When you come to this island, you’ll find that Curacao’s capital Willemstad is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with plenty to see. Furthermore, the wonderful cafes, waterways, and roads make the city quite vibrant.

So, hit the waves and try scuba diving or windsurfing in the warm air. Plus, you can expect winds to be a bit calmer and waves not too strong compared to nearby destinations.

This may be a surprising choice but wait until you hear just how much Tenerife has to offer you in September. The peak season finishes off in August, so you are sure to find the perfect amount of peace and quiet throughout the island.

Since it is no longer peak season, prices are also lower, making this a more affordable trip. Most importantly, though, the weather is amazing. September is a particularly dry month, so you don’t have to worry too much about rain ruining your beach day.

Temperatures in September average in the 20s, and there is a very slim chance of storms and hurricanes. However, there is a risk of extremely high temperatures at times, during which you will need to keep yourself cool, but that’s what the water, aircon and cocktails are for.

As with any island holiday, during any time, remember to pack lots of sunscreen and bug spray, and of course, your cutest swimsuit. Also remember, some good holiday reading and your island playlist to complete the ultimate escape from everyday life.

Cheap Caribbean: Best islands for budget vacations

A week of sun and sand may be priceless for your mental health (and your tan), but you don’t need to pay a fortune to get it. I’ve gathered data on airfare, hotel rates and package deals to unearth the cheapest Caribbean islands to visit, along with reasonably priced places to stay on each one.

This small island off the coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is known for white-sand beaches, colorful marine life and the Maya ruins of San Gervasio. While you can fly directly to Cozumel from a handful of U.S. airports, including Dallas and Charlotte, you can often save hundreds of dollars by flying to Cancun instead and then taking a ferry to Cozumel from nearby Playa del Carmen.

“Regularly under the $300 mark, nonstops to Cancun can be found from most major U.S. airports at any time throughout the year,” advises Tracy Stewart, content editor at Airfarewatchdog , SmarterTravel’s sister site.

According to Kayak , the median hotel rate in 2019 is about $205 a night, with even cheaper options if you’re willing to travel between August and November. (Note that this falls within Caribbean hurricane season.)

Where to stay: Past guests rave about the friendly service and quiet, homey vibe at Casita de Maya Boutique Hotel, where rates are regularly below $75 a night. If you’re looking for a beachfront resort experience, try the Blue Angel Resort, where you’ll usually pay less than $150 a night.

Eco-adventurers will find plenty to do in Jamaica, from swimming in waterfalls to zip lining through the rainforest. Only-in-Jamaica spots to visit include the Bob Marley Museum and the Rastafari Indigenous Village. And, of course, there are plenty of beaches to relax on between excursions.

According to data from CheapOair , fares to Kingston this winter are averaging just $366 round-trip. Montego Bay is another local airport to try, where you’ll often find rates nearly as low.

Hotels won’t set you back too much either: Oyster.com , SmarterTravel’s sister site, found that the average hotel rate in Jamaica was $155 a night, with plenty of options on the cheaper end. Travel between May and October for the lowest rates, recommends Kayak.

Where to stay: Marblue Villa Suites offers clean, colorful rooms and a beachfront location at rates under $125 a night on the dates I checked. Or try the budget-priced Westender Inn, where you can look out over the ocean from an infinity pool.

Puerto Rico

In Puerto Rico, you can split your vacation between the lush El Yunque rainforest, the island’s wide sandy beaches and the vibrant colonial streets of Old San Juan. A boat trip into one of the island’s bioluminescent bays is another must-do.

According to CheapOair, the average round-trip flight to San Juan is $336, while flights to Aguadilla are even cheaper at $293. “If departing from most East Coast major cities, San Juan is consistently low (under $300) and [has] plenty of flight options,” says Stewart of Airfarewatchdog.

It’s easy to budget for expenses in Puerto Rico, as the local currency is the U.S. dollar. Bonus: You don’t need to pay for a passport to get there. And with a variety of hotel options all over the island, it’s not hard to find one in your price range.

Where to stay: The laid-back, beachfront Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn is a convenient jumping-off point for trips to El Yunque or San Juan, at rates typically under $150 a night. Even cheaper are the clean, no-frills rooms at Dreams Hotel Puerto Rico in the outskirts of San Juan.

Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is probably the cheapest Caribbean island to visit if you’re looking for affordable all-inclusive deals. On a recent visit to CheapCaribbean.com , I spotted dozens of packages in Punta Cana, the most popular resort area, starting at just $599 per person for air and four nights’ accommodations. Activities in the area include snorkeling, zip lining and off-road ATV tours through the jungle. You can also go hiking and swim in clear lagoons at the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park & Reserve.

The average round-trip fare to Santo Domingo is $402, according to CheapOair data, and Oyster pegs the average hotel rate at $184 a night. Other popular resort areas in the Dominican Republic include La Romana and Puerto Plata.

Where to stay: The Punta Cana Princess All Suites Resort & Spa offers a beachfront all-inclusive experience for less than $200 a night on the dates I checked. If you’re not up for a big resort, consider the NH Punta Cana, a boutique hotel with breakfast included and a beach within walking distance.

This Caribbean-adjacent strand of tropical islands is a popular getaway just an hour-long flight from Miami. Most visitors fly into Nassau (on New Providence Island) or Freeport (on Grand Bahama Island); it’s worth checking fares to both airports to see which is cheaper. Consider Grand Bahama Island for a quieter, more laid-back vacation, while high-energy Nassau suits travelers looking for lots of activities and nightlife.

One of Kayak’s trending beach destinations for 2019 , the Bahamas are served by multiple discount airlines (JetBlue, Southwest) as well as the major carriers, with a median airfare of $455 round-trip. Fly during January, September or October for the lowest fares, according to Kayak data.

The average hotel rate is $199 a night, according to Oyster. One way to save money is by looking into packages from sites such as CheapCaribbean.com or Expedia.

Where to stay: The Bell Channel Inn in Freeport offers basic but comfortable rooms within walking distance of the beach. Bay View Suites Paradise Island is a modestly priced option near Nassau.

With its lushly forested mountains, sweeping sand beaches and colorful villages, Martinique offers a variety of landscapes along with a taste of French flair. Between beach days, visitors can stroll through the Jardin de Balata, tour lovely cathedrals or hike to one of the island’s many waterfalls.

Martinique didn’t have a reputation as one of the cheapest Caribbean islands until a European discount airline started flying there from the East Coast, making fares more reasonable. “Norwegian’s nonstop service to the French Caribbean island of Martinique hovers under $300 round-trip from the Northeast,” says Stewart. Norwegian flies to Martinique from New York (JFK) and Fort Lauderdale.

There are hundreds of places to stay around the island at a wide range of price points. To find lower rates, try to avoid peak season, which runs roughly from December through April.

Where to stay: Residence du Village Creole is a reasonably priced three-star hotel located in the village of Trois-Ilets, within walking distance of a beach. Or pay even less for a cozy stay at Tante Arlette, located in a restored historic building in the northern part of the island.

The largest but also most overlooked of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Croix quietly offers a variety of attractions for visitors. You can tour Fort Christiansvaern, built by the Danes and now a national historic site; go snorkeling at Buck Island Reef National Monument; or hike to the Carambola Tide Pools, where you can take a dip to cool off.

“Since Spirit Airlines recently launched service, fares to St. Croix have dropped quite a bit to the under-$300 range,” says Stewart. Spirit currently offers direct flights between St. Croix and Fort Lauderdale, with connections to numerous other cities in its network.

As with Puerto Rico, the fact that St. Croix is a U.S. island means that you don’t have to worry about currency exchange fees or paying for a passport.

Where to stay: The moderately priced Hotel on the Cay sits on a small island in Christiansted Harbor and even has its own beach. Or try the Hotel Caravelle on St. Croix, which has an attached casino and is located near the boardwalk in downtown Christiansted.

17 Cheapest Caribbean Islands in 2024 For All-Inclusive Resorts

As of late summer 2023 there are around 460 all-inclusive resorts spread around the Caribbean, with more being constructed every year. More than 120 of those are in the Dominican Republic, with nearly 50 others in Jamaica. The Cancun/Playa del Carmen/Cozumel area has more than 160, and the rest are spread among other islands. When researching Caribbean vacations, you’ll find the cheapest all-inclusive deals are clearly on the islands with the most resorts.

If you are looking for a cheap Caribbean all-inclusive or at least one that offers excellent value, it’s best to look in the places that have the most resorts because they have to compete on price in order to fill up most of the year. On the other hand, if you are looking for more of a boutique experience and you have a larger budget, you will probably be happier on one of the smaller islands such as St. Lucia or Barbados.

To make your decision at least a bit easier, we’ve sorted through the entire Caribbean to compare prices of these all-inclusive resorts, and listed the destinations from cheapest to most expensive below. We’ve previously ranked Caribbean islands by price for regular hotels, but the order here is quite different.

Updates for 2024

You can still find amazing bargains and resorts starting well under US$200 per night in high season, but a resort that might have charged US$160 per night in early 2023 will be charging more like US$185 per night in early 2024. The bottom line is you should book as early as possible to lock in the best deals. Most of these places allow free cancellation up until shortly before the dates, so there isn’t much to lose and a lot to gain.

High season vs. Low season

The best-value time of year is from around January 10 through the end of February, because you get perfect weather and smaller crowds than around Christmas and in March.

The list below is ranked based on high season rates because that’s when most people visit the Caribbean, but it’s worth looking closely if you are going in the off season because the order would be somewhat different, and some destinations are far cheaper while others only drop prices a bit. In other words, if your schedule is flexible then cheap all-inclusive trips are even cheaper September through November.

The Best Deals?

Air + hotel packages are often the best deals. The room rates below are obviously for the resort only, with airfare extra. Depending on your departure point, you might find slight differences in the order if you choose an air+hotel package. Regardless of where you are starting, it’s worth checking the prices of the airfare and the hotel separately, and also as a package. Usually the air+hotel package will be cheapest, but certainly not always, so it’s worth a few more minutes to confirm before you buy.

1 – la romana, dominican republic (cheapest).

On the southern shore not far west of Punta Cana in eastern Dominican Republic, La Romana is probably best known to the legendary 5-star resort called Casa de Campo, which remains popular today. There are about a dozen other all-inclusive hotel choices in the region, and most of the others are in the lower to middle price range, some with very appealing off-season prices.

Direct flights into La Romana Airport are available from many larger cities, but the resorts are also close enough to the Punta Cana Airport that flying into that larger and cheaper facility might save both time and money depending on where you are starting. In fact, when you search for Punta Cana resorts you’ll usually see the La Romana resorts mixed in, so it’s really one big market.

2 – Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

On the northern coast of the Dominican Republic you’ll find the district of Puerto Plata, which may not have the country’s nicest beaches, but it does have a great abundance of cheap all-inclusive vacation resorts. Flights into the local airport aren’t as cheap as into many other areas on this list, so flight+hotel packages might not reflect the amazingly low prices of the resorts themselves.

During the high season the deals available at the 25 or so all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Plata are definitely among the best for any Caribbean island, and during the off season (particularly September and October) the prices are so low that some of them look like mistakes. As long as you are clear that this is nothing like St. Barths, then Puerto Plata offers great value and a lot of fun.

If your budget is so low that your options are Puerto Plata or staying home, then Puerto Plata could be perfect. But if you can afford a bit more I think it’s worth checking the deals in Punta Cana, which is listed a bit below.

3 – Cozumel, Mexico

A small Caribbean island just across the channel from Playa del Carmen and just south of Cancun, Cozumel has 14 of its own all-inclusive resorts with rates mostly in the lower end and middle of the pack for Caribbean all-inclusives. On Cozumel you get the benefits of being on an island, but also the convenience of being a short ferry ride from an interesting town and some famous ruins and other sights.

Cozumel has its own airport and if you can get a direct flight into it you can often get a good fare. But the Cancun Airport is much larger and has many more direct destinations, so you might actually save both time and money by flying in and out of that one. To get from Cancun Airport to Cozumel you can take a short (and super scenic) flight or take a shuttle to the ferry in Playa del Carmen and then take the ferry over, which takes about two hours each way in total.

4 – Cancun

While it’s not a Caribbean island like the rest of these on the list, we are including Cancun because it has endless Caribbean beaches, and it’s among the cheapest choices for an all-inclusive holiday when you factor in the flight. The area has over 80 hotels that are fully all inclusive or offer an all-inclusive option, all the way up and down the price range.

As obvious a choice as it may be, Cancun does have a lot going for it, including cheap nonstop flights from all over North American and even Europe. One thing to be careful of is that that there are quite a few disapointing resorts mixed in at the lower price ranges, so it’s important to check the reviews before you commit. Those who book carefully will be getting the best value for money in the Caribbean.

5 – Playa del Carmen, Mexico

• High season: US$224 – $2,180
• Low season: US$168 – $2,086

Only about an hour by road south of Cancun and its huge airport, Playa del Carmen is a lively tourist town filled with hotels, shops, and activities. Nearly all of the all-inclusive resorts are on the edges of town or on the beach on the road from Cancun, so guests at these resorts will need to make special trips to enjoy the town itself. This is part of an area now known as the Riviera Maya, which runs from just south of Cancun to just south of Tulum, so sometimes you’ll see resorts listed with Riviera Maya as their location if they aren’t in Playa del Carmen itself.

Room rates at all-inclusive resorts in Playa del Carmen are very competitive, and package prices are unusually good value because they come with a flight into Cancun, which is known for bargain flights. This isn’t an island, but being out of the Yucatan Peninsula it feels a lot like one. The nightlife in Playa del Carmen isn’t as famous as that of Cancun, though the town far more interesting in most other ways.

It’s also worth noting that the most expensive all-inclusive resort in this area are stunning overwater bungalows at the El Dorado Maroma Resort . These are the only true honeymoon-style overwater bungalows in Mexico and they are very popular.

6 – Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

• High season: US$242 – $963
• Low season: US$152 – $709

With over 75 hotels that offer all-inclusive deals, Punta Cana has the greatest concentration of these resorts on any Caribbean island. The resort area occupies the far eastern tip of the Dominican Republic and the hotel beaches can either face northeast or southeast. The busy local airport gets direct flights in from all over North America and Europe, and airfares are reasonable for the Caribbean.

With so many to choose from, Punta Cana has resorts big and small, up and down the price range, though it’s worth noting that a few of the cheapest places tend to get a lot of negative reviews from guests. The vast majority of hotels here are in the same general price range, and most offer very good value for the region. With new highways and an efficient new airport, Punta Cana should probably be the first choice for any value-oriented traveler who appreciates gorgeous beaches. The actual town of Punta Cana doesn’t have much going on, so staying in an all-inclusive resort here is wise and you won’t be distracted by things outside of your resort.

7 – Samaná, Dominican Republic

• High season: US$252 – $1,001
• Low season: US$167 – $870

Facing a peaceful bay on the southern edge of a peninsula, Samaná has only a handful of resorts offering all-inclusive options, but it’s still worth considering for people who prefer a low-key destination compared to most of those mentioned above. There is a new international airport nearby with nonstop flights from many key international cities, so it’s pretty easy to reach for most people.

The high season prices are in the middle to upper levels for the Caribbean, but the low season special rates are among the best anywhere, so it might be worth even a closer look for those willing to risk the tiny possibility of a big storm altering their holiday plans.

8 – Montego Bay, Jamaica

Featuring about 25 hotels that offer all-inclusive options, Montego Bay in Jamaica has a few rather affordable resorts, but most of them are at least a bit up the price ladder, well over US$400 per night in high season. Doing research and checking prices for this 2024 list we noticed that MANY of the Jamaican resorts have been getting unusually bad reviews in the last year or two. It used to be only a couple of the cheapest resorts would fall below the threshold where we wouldn’t even mention or recommend them, but this year it looked like half the Montego Bay resorts are now getting consistently lousy reviews. Be careful before booking here these days.

Being in between Ocho Rios and Negril, and being home to the entire area’s major airport, Montego Bay also has the fastest connections from the plane to your hotel, so it’s also an ideal option for a long weekend trip where every minute counts. The main tourist area of Montego Bay is almost as disappointing as the one in Ocho Rios, so staying in an all-inclusive is your best option. Some resorts here, including some of the most expensive ones like the Sandals Royal Caribbean , are very close to the airport’s runway. Guests do hear planes taking off a few times an hour, but it’s over in 10 seconds or so.

9 – Ocho Rios, Jamaica

• High season: US$359 – $1,139
• Low season: US$296 – $1,039
• All-inclusive resorts: 11

With 11 all-inclusive resorts in the area, Ocho Rios offers mostly mid-market all-inclusive resorts, while nearby Montego Bay and Negril have some cheaper and more expensive options. Visitors to all three of Jamaica’s main tourist spots will all fly into the Montego Bay Airport, which has very competitive fares and nonstop flights from all over, so the chances of a cheap nonstop to get here are fairly high.

This is another Caribbean destination that has very appealing prices during high season, and jaw-dropping specials during the off season. And as noted in the Montego Bay section above, we noticed that many of the cheaper Jamaican all-inclusive resorts are getting pretty lousy reviews these days. Unless you are booking at one of the Sandals, you need to pay close attention to recent reviews at the cheaper places now.

By the way, the town of Ocho Rios has very little to offer on its own, aside from being near the wonderful Dunn’s River Falls. So if you want to go to Ocho Rios then an all-inclusive is the best and only good choice. Ocho Rios is also a cruise port, which does affect the town, but won’t have much effect on guests at all-inclusive resorts.

10 – Antigua & Barbuda

• High season: US$377 – $2,967
• Low season: US$362 – $1,442
• All-inclusive resorts: 18

Unlike most of the other island groups in the Lesser Antilles, Antigua and Barbuda have many all-inclusive resorts, with more than 15 to choose from, none of which are on Barbuda at this point. Antigua has had some excellent deals for all-inclusive resorts during the off season so it’s worth checking if you are planning a summer trip, but the rates when we checked for this update were looking pretty high for some reason.

For guests who are looking to escape the scene of the huge hotels and mass-market tourism of the DR and Jamaica, this is an excellent option. The downside is that flights tend to be more expensive and the airport is served by far fewer destinations, so packages can seem a little more expensive than the resort prices would indicate.

More remote and a bit more exotic than most of the choices above, St. Lucia is arguably the most beautiful of all Caribbean islands. The island now has 28 resorts that offer all-inclusive options or are completely all inclusive, and most of those are in the middle to upper range of prices for the Caribbean. They now have more all-inclusive resorts than any of the other small islands, and again, St. Lucia is noted for its beauty, so this is one to consider.

Finding cheap airfare to St. Lucia is often the tricky part of doing it on a budget, so that’s the price you pay for getting off the beaten path a bit, but if you can find an airfare+hotel package that looks good then it’s definitely worth a good look.

By the way, arguably the single most beautiful view in all of the Caribbean is of the Pitons peaks on the southern portion of St. Lucia’s west coast. In spite of its remote location at the edge of the Lesser Antilles, Barbados is a large and popular hotspot for winter vacations, with nearly 100 different beach resorts on offer. Of those you’ll over 20 that offer all-inclusive packages, and those tend to be rather expensive compared to elsewhere in the Caribbean, at least during the high season.

Due to its popularity it’s not too difficult to get reasonably priced flights to Barbados, so you might find air+hotel packages that are appealing. Again, if you want an alternative to the DR and Jamaica, this is an option to consider. Barbados is very popular with Europeans and it has a long stretch of mansions and beach houses and exclusive shops and restaurants that make it a favorite with the rich and famous as well.

13 – Negril, Jamaica

Located on Jamaica’s west coast, just southwest of Montego Bay, Negril has nearly 20 resorts that offer all-inclusive options. This popular and long strip of hotels is where you’ll find some of Jamaica’s best bargains for those who prefer to pay for food and drinks separately, but its all-in resorts are more geared for the mid to upper range guest. More specifically, there are two fairly cheap all-inclusive resorts in Negril, and the rest are much more expensive.

You normally wouldn’t find Negril this far down the “expensive” list, but this year it is because most of the cheaper all-inclusives in this area are getting mostly poor reviews so we don’t even include those ones in our range. In other words, pay attention to recent reviews before booking.

As with the others, you’ll fly into Montego Bay and then take a shuttle to your Negril resort, so you can get good airfare and nonstop flights from all over. Quality in Negril is mostly high, but it runs the gamut so the area draws a mix of budget party people up to the luxury crowd. One added benefit of Negril compared to Montego Bay and Ocho Rios is that the 7-Mile Beach area here is actually a fun place loaded with local bars, restaurants, and shops. It’s sort of like the Jamaica that you might have dreamed about visiting decades ago when things were more simple.

14 – St. Maarten/St Martin

Partly a French territory (in the north) and a Dutch territory (in the south), Saint Maarten/Sint Martin has 5 all-inclusive resorts including a couple of newer ones. There are all-inclusives on both sides of the border and both sides are pretty similar although the French side typically has better food and the Dutch side has casinos and more nightlife.

The all-inclusive resorts here are all in the mid range on the price scale, so each of the five could be considered by almost anyone looking to come here. You’ll get lower prices and better value at the destinations nearer the top of this list, but this island has many fans who come back every year, although it’s also usually crowded with cruise ship passengers during daylight hours.

The greater Nassau area and the Paradise Island area in particular are very popular for winter holidays, but they aren’t good places to find affordable all-inclusive resorts. With only about five options, including one cheap and disappointing resort, the Bahamas is not fertile ground for all inclusive deals.

The best thing Nassau has going for it is that it’s very close to Florida and flights are usually quite cheap and frequent, so it’s a good choice for a long weekend when you don’t want to spend most of your coming and going days in transit. But for a week-long trip you’ll get much better value for the money by going to the DR or Jamaica.

Especially outside of peak season it’s worth looking at Atlantis, Paradise Island deals and specials , which can be up to 40% off.

16 – Grenada

Grenada is partly famous for being less developed than many of its Caribbean neighbors. As of late 2019 they were down to a single all-inclusive resort that was also extremely expensive, but since then a few more resorts have come on board and now you’ve got choices up and down the price range. This is an English-speaking island so it mostly appeals to Americans, Canadians, and Brits.

Flights into Grenada aren’t among the cheaper ones compared to some of its neighbors, so this isn’t an ideal destination for those looking for great bargains. However, that also means that it tends to cater to a more thoughtful group of visitors, which will appeal to many.

Just off the coast of Venezuela, the island of Aruba is somewhat different compared to most Caribbean islands, with a dry climate all year round. Sandals is arguably the most famous high-end all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean, and Beaches is the company’s family-oriented brand. Curiously enough, those chains DON’T show up on most travel search sites so they aren’t included in the information in this list. Generally speaking, Sandals and Beaches would be among the more expensive all-inclusive resorts on these islands, and they are famous for including more than their competitors in the room rate.

It’s worth mentioning that Sandals now has 4  all-inclusive resorts with overwater bungalows , two in Jamaica, one in St. Lucia, and a new one for 2024 that has opened on St. Vincent . They obviously aren’t cheap, but still they are an extremely popular ‘bucket list’ experience for many romantic couples so they tend to be booked well in advance.

Family of 4.. (kids are 13 & 20 looking for all inclusive resorts (not Jamaica)we been there 4 times already) One “must” is CALM….. clear water like Negril Jamaica. What about Punta Cana? is it even safe to travel there? I have heard the beaches there have rocks and shells and you need to wear beach shoes??? I prefer soft barefeet beaches/water.. lol. Interested in Aruba, Bahamas, St Lucia, Grand Caymen but can not afford a $10,000.00 trip. Any ideas? thanks

As far as I am aware, Punta Cana is still among the safer places to visit in the Caribbean. I’ve been to a few beaches there and they were all white sand, but the area is like 60 miles of beaches so some might be more pristine than others. I think the seaweed is a bigger problem, and it seems like most Caribbean beaches are dealing with that on and off.

If you are looking for really calm water I think your best bet will be to find an island with bays or inlets. I stayed at a Sandals in St. Lucia that was on a very calm bay and the water was amazing, but most St. Lucia resorts are not on bays. Still, there are resorts on calm bays on many islands. So I don’t think it’s a matter of choosing the right island, but of choosing a resort in the right area on many different islands. You might even check out maps online and look at which ones have bays and lagoons. Best of luck! -Roger

Hope you and your family are safe and well during this pandemic. I would love to take my partner on a week vacation (5-8days) to an all inclusive resort with an overwater bungalo. What would be the best choice, in terms of quality and price? Looking for something affordable (I know that’s subjective), and I do not want to say cheap because we also want someplace with quality accommodations and service. Preferably the Caribbean, but anywhere in the world would do if it’s a great and amazing deal, price-wise.

Unfortunately there aren’t too many options for overwater bungalows in the Caribbean , but our sister site on that link keeps track of all of them. There are two in Jamaica and one in St. Lucia, and all of those are Sandals and go for a bit over US$2,000 per night. I’ve been to all three of them and they are amazing, but most of us don’t have that kind of money.

There are a couple in Mexico close to Cancun and I think those are better value as they start closer to US$1,000 per night.

The places in Bora Bora, Moorea, and Tahiti start at around US$600 per night and there are many to choose from, but the flight from Los Angeles to Tahiti is long and pretty expensive so it ends up costing about as much and taking more time. Let me know if you have any questions. -Roger

Strangely enough, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have only a few all-inclusive resorts total and they are kind of pricey. If you are looking for value I’d search in the Punta Cana area for smaller resorts. Most of the resorts there are huge, but they also typically have golf-cart shuttles to take guests wherever they want in the resort, so they can actually be better for those with mobility issues than a smaller resort where you have to walk everywhere. That budget is actually enough in several parts of the Mediterranean , where all-inclusive resorts tend to be shockingly cheap (and also of lower quality). But in the Caribbean the all-inclusive resorts tend to start closer to US$120 per night (per couple) in low season (September and October). If you go alone you might find a rate closer to US$100 per night, but that’s obviously still double what you have in mind.

The cheaper resorts often make a good chunk of their money selling excursions to guests because the food, unlimited drinks, and housekeeping for two people can cost them over US$100 per day. If they can sell a Jet Ski excursion for US$200 per couple, for example, then that is where they can actually profit with a low room rate.

In Punta Cana (which is among the cheaper places) the hotels are mostly huge and they wouldn’t have much incentive to wheel and deal to fill one room for 3 months to a person who probably won’t buy any excursions or top-shelf booze or gifts from the gift shop. I’d say your best chance would be to look for normal hotels rather than all-inclusive places, and especially during the slow months of September through late November. You might find a small hotel with plenty of empty rooms that might do US$1,500 per month including breakfast. Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica are the cheaper options for something like that. You could probably survive on $15 per day for lunch and dinner, and whatever alcohol you’d buy locally at retail prices. I created this website while living on the road in Asia mostly for a few years and it’s much easier to live on a shoestring budget there. I hope this helps. To help determine when you should start planning your next getaway, read this guide to some of the best times to visit the Caribbean .

When to experience the best weather in the Caribbean

While the temperatures in the Caribbean remain fairly consistent — between the mid-70s and mid-80s throughout the year — the climate is considered "tropical marine," meaning seasons are broken into wet and dry. The wet season usually begins in May or June and lasts through late November. The remainder of the year is considered the dry season.

Typically, mountainous regions, such as the Blue Mountains of Jamaica , receive more rainfall than flatter destinations like Aruba . This means that the likelihood of having to endure an afternoon shower can vary greatly even within a single island. With that being said, Turks and Caicos , Aruba, Anguilla, Bonaire and the British Virgin Islands tend to be drier overall, while Puerto Rico, Antigua, St. Lucia, Barbados and Grenada tend to be wetter.

Like most tropical climates, average daily temperatures rarely fluctuate more than a few degrees between summer and winter. The Cayman Islands, Aruba and Curaçao trend on the warmer side by Caribbean standards, meaning you may want to keep them on your radar for a winter escape. Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Turks and Caicos tend to be cooler.

It's also important to consider the trade winds (especially when visiting islands in the southeast Caribbean, such as Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands), which blow northeast and are most prevalent in the winter, resulting in a wind chill factor. So, save for travelers hoping to dial in their windsurfing skills or enjoy a cool breeze while sitting on the beach, stick to the northern and western sides of the islands during the winter months.

Traveling during hurricane season

Hurricane season in the Caribbean typically stretches from June 1 through Nov. 30, with the majority of storms striking between September an October. But that by no means should deter you from visiting the Caribbean during this time.

If you're traveling during hurricane season, just pay attention to weather alerts and be strategic about picking a destination . Some islands, such as those in the southeast — Aruba, Curaçao, Barbados and Grenada, to name a few — have very little risk of being affected.

When to visit the Caribbean to avoid crowds

As you can imagine, peak hurricane season — September and October — is a slower time in the Caribbean. But the slow season actually starts around May, with the sweltering summer heat, and extends through hurricane season. This is a great time to not only avoid crowds , but also find some great deals for an affordable vacation .

Tourism starts to pick up just before the holidays, and usually lasts through spring. This is also the region's driest season, and travelers can expect reliable sunshine and warm temperatures.

When to visit the Caribbean for events and festivals

If you're hoping to experience a festival or event in the Caribbean, there's almost always something going on — you just have to make sure to choose your destination accordingly.

Originating in Trinidad and Tobago , each island hosts its own Carnival (sometimes called Carnaval), which is usually a big street festival with its own distinct traditions. No matter the month, there's almost always a Carnival taking place somewhere in the Caribbean. But there are also plenty of other cultural and music events you can experience during a trip to the Caribbean.

In addition to its beaches, Jamaica is also famous for reggae. Fans should plan to visit during Jamaica's Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay. Each year, local and regional acts like Beres Hammond, Buju Banton and Chronixx perform over the course of six nights. During the event, expect plenty of beach parties and concerts.

It's not just anywhere you can find an entire festival dedicated to a single species of mollusk. But that's exactly what happens every November in Turks and Caicos. When it started in 2004, the the Conch Festival's main purpose was to use the island's national symbol and main export — conch — to draw visitors to Blue Hills, which is Providenciales' oldest settlement. Now, local restaurants showcase their nontraditional takes on a traditional favorite, as live music and a Carnival-like atmosphere take over.

The Trinidad, or "Trini" Carnival, is the genesis of all other Carnivals throughout the Caribbean. The exact date changes each year, but it's always held on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. At 4 a.m. on Carnival Monday, the streets are flooded with paint-covered Carnival-goers during J'Ouvert, or "day open." Parades, music and festivities continue until Ash Wednesday.

Each spring, the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival hosts some of the biggest names in modern jazz, with performances held against breathtaking landscapes and indoors at more intimate venues. In addition to live performances, professional development workshops and classes, participants get to experience Saint Lucian culture, which is replete with dance, food, parties and festivities.

Cheapest time to visit the Caribbean

September is the cheapest month to book accommodations across the Caribbean , according to travel search site Kayak. Prices vary by location, but median hotel rates will set you back around $209, compared to the $360 you might expect to pay in December. September also happens to coincide with peak hurricane season, so depending on where you're headed, be prepared for some potential afternoon showers.

Winter is also when should expect to find standard and peak nights for award redemptions. Think: One-night stays at the Category 8 St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Puerto Rico from between 85,000 and 100,000 points per night, versus 70,000 off-peak award nights in September.

Cash flights to many destinations in the Caribbean are cheapest between January and March, according to Skyscanner. Of course, airfare depends on when you book, your point of origin and your destination.

If you're flying to Montego Bay (MBJ) from New York City, Los Angeles or Chicago, for example, February is a safe bet for cheap flights. Flights to Turks and Caicos from New York City are the least expensive in January, but February is more affordable for travelers based in Los Angeles and Chicago. Flying to the Dominican Republic ? If your trip originates in either New York City or Chicago, plan your trip in March to score a solid flight deal . But if you're coming from Los Angeles, you'll likely find cheaper flights in January.

Bottom line

It's a lot more challenging to find a "bad" time to visit the Caribbean than a "good" time. In fact, some may argue there's no bad time to visit at all. Even hurricane season, despite its challenges, can be a great time to plan your tropical vacation , especially if you're flexible about the exact destination.

Flights can be a tad costly flying into the local airport here. The best way to avoid this is using SkyScanner or purchasing an all-inclusive package, including flight and hotel.

There are around 30 all-inclusive resorts here catering to tourists from all over the world. During the high season, you can find some good all-inclusive deals to come to Puerto Plata despite being surprisingly high season. Low season prices here occur during September and October.

Puerto Plata in the Dominican is great for having fun and saving money while vacationing. But as I stated, the beaches are okay, and the food isn’t the greatest, to be honest.

Puerto Plata is an excellent option if your budget for a vacation is tight. If you can pay a little more, I recommend checking out the deals in Punta Cana , which ranks second on this list and has much better beaches!

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Another destination in the Dominican Republic is Punta Cana, but Punta Cana is not Puerto Plata. The beaches here are far more beautiful than in Puerto Plata. Despite being only a few hour’s drive away from each other, the shorelines are much different.

Although some reasonably priced hotels exist in Punta Cana, it is best known for its all-inclusive luxury resorts. Costing you a fraction more than what you’d be paying in Puerto Plata, but it’s worth it!

Despite being more expensive than Puerto Plata, you can find great deals on flight and hotel packages. Punta Cana is also conveniently located close to an airport.

If you’re looking for the cheapest Caribbean islands to visit. Here’s your answer: The Dominican Republic offers two options: Puerto Plata or Punta Cana. There are many all-inclusive packages available to visit Punta Cana.

Cozumel, Mexico

Cozumel is a small Caribbean island across the water from another popular beach city in Mexico, Playa del Carmen. Accommodation rates here are, for the most part, at a lower to mid-end price range for Caribbean all-inclusive packages.

The best part about Cozumel is the variety of fun day trips you can do while staying there. To get to the neighboring city, Playa del Carmen, it’s a 40 minute ferry ride. From there, you can spend a day in Playa del Carmen, there’s plenty to do there as well!

Bridgetown, Barbados

Barbados, a British Commonwealth country, is a very family-friendly island. It’s home to Crane Beach and it’s regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean.

Bridgetown is the beautiful capital of Barbados, with plenty of resorts, restaurants, and things to do. Barbados is well-known for its low prices on hotels and affordable flight packages. 

Barbados offers many fun activities, including swimming with turtles, exploring Animal Flower Cave, and sailing the Caribbean Sea.

It’s easy to find affordable flights to Barbados due to its popularity. Looking for cheap air and hotel packages is not as easy as the other three destinations we listed before. But you find these packages, especially during winter months.

Barbados is quite popular with Europeans because of its many accommodation types. Those looking to stay in a mansion or a large beach house will love to come here. Despite that being the case, Barbados has over 20 all-inclusive resorts offering excellent vacation pricing.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Jamaica is one of my favorite Caribbean islands because of its culture. It is known for its chill-out vibe, reggae, spicy food, and fantastic nightlife, parties here don’t finish early!

Montego Bay, Jamaica, has 25 all-inclusive resorts. However, some of them can get quite pricey, so I suggest choosing where you decide to stay and booking when all-inclusive deals are happening there.

Prices in Montego Bay follow the seasonal demand quite closely, so I suggest you go when best suits you, whether during the high or shoulder season .

Ocho Rios and Negril are also popular tourist places in Jamaica. Those looking for the most beautiful beaches may want to consider visiting Negril. But both these places will cost you more than visiting Montego Bay.

Accommodations and almost everything on the island is cheap, but getting there isn’t. The airport doesn’t see as much traffic as other neighboring islands, so a flight there will cost more.

Grenada may not be your ideal option if you’re after a package deal with a hotel and flight. However, you can always check for cheap flights and get an all-inclusive hotel separately.

Nassau, Bahamas

The Bahamas has always been a top Caribbean island destination for tourists to visit over time. But in the past decades, visiting this paradise island has become more costly. Nassau region is a popular place to stay for those looking to escape the snow up North.

Although the island is well-known for its luxurious hotels, it doesn’t necessarily mean they have no affordable options.

Regarding all-inclusive options in the Bahamas, there aren’t as many resorts as you’d think. There are only five all-inclusive resorts here , which is pretty low for a famous Caribbean island close to the US .

This makes the Bahamas the most expensive option in this list of the cheapest Caribbean islands to visit.

Keep in mind it’s only a 50-minute flight from Fort Lauderdale airport. Nassau’s greatest asset is its proximity to Florida. Flights are often very cheap , making them an excellent choice for long weekends when you don’t want to travel too much from the US.

The best and cheapest time to visit these Caribbean islands is between January 10th through mid-March . You could go before January 10th, but be mindful of New Year’s travel. The closer you get to January 1st, the higher the prices are.

During this time, the weather is excellent with smaller crowds because the holiday travel just ended, and the continuation of the high season doesn’t usually pick up till mid-March.

Having gone all over the Caribbean, I’ve always stuck with going during this time. It’s the best-value time of the year to go!

If price isn’t a big consideration, the best time to visit the Caribbean is between November through April. This is when the weather is most ideal in the Caribbean.

High Season vs. Low Season vs. Shoulder Season

The biggest cost factor for your vacation, no matter the destination, will be what time of year you choose to visit. Yes, these are the cheapest Caribbean islands to visit any time of year.

But the price you pay for your visit will depend more on the time you visit, you must consider this.

There are three different seasonal periods for vacation goers throughout the year that dictate the price for flights and accommodations in the Caribbean. Here’s a breakdown of each of them and what they mean.

High Season:  This is during popular times of the year to travel, like Christmas, and when the weather is ideal.

The “ high season ” in the Caribbean runs from December to April, and the “peak time” is between December and January. The high season is also when the weather is the most ideal to visit the Caribbean.

Low Season:  This is the least popular time to travel to the Caribbean. This is during the off months of the year, when you will experience rain some days.. But the rain in the Caribbean does pass by quickly because of the tropical atmosphere.

The low season in the Caribbean islands is from May through October when the humidity levels are high and unbearable for some travelers.

Shoulder Season : This is the period between the High and Low seasons; it’s an excellent time to visit for those looking for a great deal. Shoulder season is a weather transitional period in a region. Flights/hotels are discounted, and during this time, you can find great deals!

The cheapest months are usually May, June, September, and October.  These months are when Shoulder Season  is on, the weather is transitioning, and most travelers are in other destinations worldwide instead of the Caribbean.

Discover when is the best time to visit Moscow. In this blog post, I will talk about weather, budget and other things to know to choose the best time when to go to Moscow for you. I cannot account the times when we went in Moscow. Here are the pros and the cons of each month taking all main criteria into account!

I will first describe the main criteria that will help you choose when to go to Moscow:

Then I will talk about each season (go directly to this party if you already have an idea of ​​the desired departure date):

The weather cannot be the only criterion to decide when is the best time to visit Moscow for you. Even if the temperatures drop low, Moscow in December is just magical! This is why I advise to take into account several criteria at the same time. Also remember that it takes at least a month to get the Russian visa.

When to go to Moscow: climate and weather

The seasons are well marked. The mid-season months are not necessarily the best for the weather. However, they are not necessarily to be avoided, because, as we will see later, Moscow is a city that changes all the time and the prices can be more attractive. For example, for a lot of people winter is the best time to visit Moscow.

Weather in Moscow. Moscow is inland, making the city “more protected” from changing weather. For example, the weather is much more changeable in St. Petersburg. On the other hand, the weather in Moscow is more and more scorching in summer, we can then easily reach 30 degrees (for the Russians, it’s already the heat wave).

Moscow temperatures

As soon as you think of Russia, you want to do “Brrrr”. Let’s prepare our down jackets! Indeed, the Russian climate is not the mildest on the planet. However, it all depends on the region, because the country is very large. Moscow is almost at the same latitude as Copenhagen. As Moscow is relatively far from the coast, there is a pronounced continental climate. It is hot in summer and cold in winter.

In addition, global warming is there. For several decades, annual average temperatures have always been recorded above the past. I suggest you look at the averages over the past five years to be as close as possible to reality:

Sunshine and precipitation

Sunshine. This is surprising, but there is more sunshine in Moscow than in Paris or even in Berlin: 1,731 hours in Moscow, compared to 1661 in Paris and 1626 in Berlin.

Duration of the day in winter. We had questions about the length of the day in winter. So, here are a few things. As in Europe, the shortest days are in December. In Moscow, at the end of December, the sun rises around 9 a.m. and sets around 4 p.m. Then the day gets bigger until the end of June, when the day is the longest.

Precipitation. There is more precipitation in Moscow than in Paris (705mm against 637mm).

When is the best time to visit Moscow: interesting events

Moscow is a city that moves a lot. It is even said that this city never sleeps. So there are a lot of events, forums, exhibitions, conferences. Here I’m going to talk about the main recurring events that punctuate the year and that may help you decide when to go to Moscow.

End of year celebrations in Moscow

December 31 rather than Christmas. The Russians are eagerly awaiting the holiday season. Here on December 31 is like Christmas with us. Religion, “opium of the people” according to Marx, and, above all, its official absence marked the country during the Soviet years. This then reinforced the celebration of December 31, while Orthodox Christmas is January 7.

Russian calendar. In addition, it should be known that the first week of January is a bank holiday. Many Russians therefore do not work during this period. Europe also greatly influences the habits of Muscovites. Consequently, the Christmas markets start in early December and, for some, continue until early February!

Fairytale atmosphere. If you are wondering when to go to Moscow and you love the holiday mood, then the end of December – early January, and even February, is for you! There are many things to do during this time: for example, Christmas markets, decorations, winter games, skating rinks. In 2016, Moscow opened the largest ice rink in Europe. In short, the city is doing a lot of entertainment during this period and the general atmosphere is at the top! However, everything comes at a cost. Visit Moscow in May

May 1 and 9 are two big festivals in Russia. Both dates are known worldwide. May 9 in Russia is May 8 with us in France. The signature that marks the end of the Second World War. The shift day is explained by … the difference in time zone.

The May 9 holiday is a very important holiday for the Russians. The Soviet human losses amounted to millions. So there are many families who have been directly affected by the war. The first big parade was organized by Stalin on June 24, 1945 in Red Square in Moscow. Later each year the USSR and then Russia organized a parade on May 9. A disadvantage of the beginning of May. For the planned events, Red Square will not be completely empty. There are always installations for May 9, but also rehearsals. Throughout the year, the Moscow City Hall organizes free events (festivals, small markets, concerts, etc.) in the Red Square and in the streets of the city center. For example, there are two major interesting events:

• Festival of Lights “Around the World”: in 2019, it was from September 28 to October 4.
• Anniversary of the city of Moscow always celebrated the first weekend of September.

When is the best time to visit Moscow: budget, price seasonality, visa

Most touristy periods. Many travelers come to Moscow from May to October. This is the period when we see the most tourists in Moscow. In addition, many are also those who come at the end of December and at the beginning of January for the New Year. The beginning of May and the first week of January are also strongly requested, in particular by the Russians (school holidays, public holidays).

Accommodation. Hotel rates therefore necessarily increase during these periods of the year. But they do not go so far as to triple. Guides and tours. Also take into account that during these periods it will be more difficult to find a guide at the last moment. It’s best to do it 2-3 months in advance. There will be more waiting or difficulty obtaining tickets during the months of high tourist influx: late December, early January, May, June, July, August.

Visa for Russia. The cost of the visa does not change depending on the month of the year. On the other hand, the deadlines can be longer if you make the request for the high tourist season (from May to October). Allow about a month. Getting the Russian visa is not complicated, there is a procedure to follow.

In Russia, the seasons are divided as follows:

• Fall: September, October, November.
• Winter: December, January, February.
• Spring: March, April, May.
• Summer: June, July, August.

From the beginning of September, we feel that the temperatures begin to drop gradually, especially at night.

Moscow in September

More and more travelers are choosing the month of September to go to Moscow. Because it is not cold yet and there are fewer tourists than in summer. Prices drop slightly, but remain higher than in the lean months of the year. There is also the city’s birthday on the first weekend in September, but also the “Around the World” festival towards the end of the month.

Moscow in October

You are likely to come across the colors of autumn from the beginning of October. The accommodation prices are starting to drop gradually. There is less waiting in the places to visit. Temperatures are not very low: during the day they are generally around +6 degrees. On the other hand, the only negative point can be the cost of plane tickets, if you leave during the French school holidays.

Moscow in November

It’s one of the least calm! Temperatures drop and can approach zero during the day in mid-November. Hotel rates are low, there are few tourists, and therefore less waiting in museums. It’s easier to get tickets for the Kremlin Palace of Armor, which can be very difficult in the summer. Guides also have more availability. So why not go to Moscow in November?

Winter is a very nice time to go to Moscow, because the Christmas and New Year decorations are installed from the beginning of December and are not removed until the end of February. Moscow in december

Normally, negative daytime temperatures set in, although the weather can vary significantly from year to year. In general, from mid-December the snow is durable. It is from December 20 that more and more travelers come to Moscow. December 31st is celebrated like Christmas in France. Accommodation rates are higher from mid-December. It’s also more complicated to find a guide at the last moment. Furthermore, as in Europe, the days of December are the shortest of the year. January is also a very festive month. The first week of January is a public holiday in Russia. Besides, it’s also a week of Russian school holidays. Moscow in February

It’s the second quietest month of the year. In February, winter clearly takes its ease. The temperatures are the lowest, it’s a real winter! The days are longer in February than in December. So we’re enjoying the day more, and with the snow it’s really nice, because the weather in Moscow in February is pretty sunny. Accommodation rates are at their lowest, and the decorations are still there. Spring is a contrasting period between March, which is still quite cold, and May, when we really feel the arrival of summer.

Moscow in March

The ice and snow begin to melt around mid-March. Winter is coming in March, but spring is not quite there yet. It’s the third quietest month of the year. It is therefore possible to visit the city more quietly. Accommodation prices are low, guides are available. The weather in Moscow in March is milder than in February. In addition, the days are longer, so you can take many walks.

Moscow in April

It is only from mid-April that we begin to feel the beginnings of sunny days. The weather in Moscow in spring and April in particular is getting milder and colder: we can expect +7 during the day. In addition, there are not many travelers yet and we fear to enjoy the places more quietly, but we feel that the start of the tourist season is approaching. The early May holidays attract many travelers to Moscow. There are also many Russians who come to the capital on public holidays. It is therefore advisable to plan visits in advance to avoid queuing once there. All summer months are great, if you take temperatures into account. The weather in Moscow in summer is quite pleasant. However, in recent years, there have been great heat peaks or heat waves in July (30 degrees during the day).

Moscow in June

From June, you can take long walks in the city’s parks, very numerous and much appreciated by the locals. Boat trips are more enjoyable from June. On the other hand, the prices of accommodation in Moscow are higher than in the lean months. There are also more tourists. Book your hotel, tours and activities in advance.

Moscow in july

July is the hottest month, but we’re not on +40. Moscow is a city inland and therefore there is little fresh air, if it is very hot. We can do lots of walks to discover the city. Moscow in August

Temperatures are starting to drop gradually, but there are still so many people. In order to be sure of the choice of accommodation, I advise you to book in advance. The same goes for guided tours or entrance tickets to the Kremlin. It’s also a good time to discover the city differently by going to places that are less touristy and more frequented by locals.

When is the best time to go to Moscow? In summary!

The best time to discover Moscow depends on the criteria you want to favor: the weather, the budget, the tranquility of the visits, the special events to be experienced on site.

In summary:

• The peak tourist season in Moscow begins in early May and ends in late September.
• Late December and early January is the best time to experience the holiday mood, but it comes at a cost.
• End of January, February, March, beginning of April, November are the quietest months of the year, when you can visit the city more calmly and on a reduced budget.

Thinking of visiting Moscow in September? While you will miss the more mild summer weather, Moscow weather in September is still fairly warm...by Russian standards. Temperatures will begin to drop as autumn arrives and the famously cold Russian winters are still many weeks away.

Moscow Weather in September

With an average temperature of 52 degrees Fahrenheit (11 degrees Celsius), the weather can change very quickly in Russia, but you can expect the temperature to remain in this range during at least the beginning of the month. It won't get much warmer with the city boasting an average high temperature of 60 degrees Fahrenheit (16 degrees Celsius), but it won't be too cold either with an average low temperature of 46 degrees Fahrenheit (8 degrees Celsius).
