Worth It? Celebrity Cruise Drink Packages Explained (Prices, What’s Included, and More)

Celebrity Cruises also offers a full lineup of drink packages, giving you the ability to pay one set daily price and then have your choice of beverages without worrying about a bill. Drink as much as you want, and you’ll know exactly what you’ll spend.

celebrity cruises drink package reviews

But these packages can be pricey and definitely have some fine print attached that you should know about. So is Celebrity’s drink package worth it? We have all the details, including our take on if you should purchase it or not.

What Drink Packages Are Available on Celebrity?

Celebrity offers multiple drink packages that can be tailored to whatever your tastes, from high-end alcoholic beverages to water and soda. So whether you are an adult that wants to let loose, or you are sailing with a kid that wants non-alcoholic drinks, the cruise line has an option.

Classic Drink Package: The basic drink package that offers everything from cocktails to coffee, beers, wine, bottled water, soda, and more. This package limits you to drinks that are $10 per glass or less.

Premium Drink Package: Have higher-end tastes? Or maybe you just want the freedom of more options? In that case, the Premium Drink Package might be for you. It includes drinks up to $17 per glass, giving you everything in the Classic Package, plus much more.

Non-Alcoholic Package: If you want some of the tasty drinks on the ship but aren’t an alcohol drinker, then there is the Non-Alcoholic Package. This deal offers premium bottled waters (Evian, San Pellegrino, etc.) specialty coffees and teas, plus zero-proof cocktails, soda, energy drinks and bottled teas.

How Much Do Drink Packages Cost?

Following a price increase and some tweaks to the packages in late 2022, Celebrity lists the following prices for each drink package:

  • Classic Drink Package: $89 per person, per day
  • Premium Drink Package: $105 per person, per day
  • Classic Non-Alcoholic Package: $45 per person, per day

Note that these prices are likely to be higher than what you’ll pay. Celebrity offers a discount for booking early, so if you want a drink package, book before you sail and you can normally save 10% or more.

Is Gratuity Included in the Price?

The prices shown above are before gratuity. There is an automatic 20% gratuity that is added onto the daily cost.

So the Classic Drink Package at $89 per day actually costs a total of $106.80 per day after this charge . The Premium Drink Package comes out to $125.99 per person, per day .

Does Everyone in the Cabin Have to Purchase the Package if One Person Does?

Fancy cocktail on a Celebrity cruise

What do you do if one person wants a drink package but another person doesn’t? In that case, Celebrity requires that if one person buys an alcoholic package, then all people in that cabin must buy one as well.

The language on the Celebrity website states “All guests of legal drinking age in the same stateroom and under the same stateroom booking number are required to purchase the same alcoholic beverage package. Guests can contact call centers or notify onboard staff to request a modification to the Non-Alcoholic package instead.”

That said, there are some exceptions listed that you may be able to take advantage of:

  • Children 12 years old and under: Not required to buy any package.
  • Teens (13-20 years in U.S., 13-17 in rest of world): Non-alcoholic package required.
  • Pregnant, recovering, or medial issue: Non-alcoholic package required.

What’s the Difference Between the Classic and Premium Packages?

As mentioned above, Celebrity offers two different alcoholic packages. The biggest difference between the two is that the Classic package offers drinks up to $10 per glass while the Premium plan offers drinks up to $17 per glass. The Premium package also offers a 20% discount on wine by the bottle compared to 15% for the Classic offer.

In short, you simply have more options with the higher-end Premium package. (You can see the full list of available alcohol for each package here .)

Still, that’s not to say you’ll go thirsty with either package. Here’s just a sample of what Celebrity says is included with the lower-priced Classic Package :

  • Vodkas: Absolut, New Amsterdam, Smirnoff, Wheatley
  • Whiskeys: Dewar’s White Label, Famous Grouse, Jim Beam, Johnnie Walker Red, Wild Turkey, Seagram’s VO
  • Rums: Bacardi, Captain Morgan’s, Malibu, Myer’s, Wray & Nephew
  • Tequilas: Cazadores Reposado, Exotico Blanco
  • Beers: Bud, Bud Light, Coors Light, Corona, Estrella Damm Daura, Heineken, Michelob Ultra, Miller Lite, Red Strip, Sam Adams.
  • Non-Alcoholic: Juice, non-premium bottled water, premium coffee, soda, non-alcoholic cocktails

In addition, the cruise line says it offers “a large selection of classic cocktails made with Classic Beverage Package spirits.”

As for the higher priced Premium Package, it features what’s listed above, plus a considerable number of additional brand names (this is just a portion of what’s available):

  • Vodkas: Belvedere, Ciroc, Grey Goose, Tito’s
  • Whiskeys: Bulleit Bourbon, Chivas Regal 12, Crown Royal, Jack Daniel’s Black, Johnnie Walker Black, Maker’s Mark, Glenlivet
  • Rums: Brugal 1888, Brugal Anejo, Flor de Cana, Gosling’s
  • Tequilas: Don Julio Blanco/Reposado, Patron, Teremana
  • Beers: Blue Moon, Guinness, Peroni, Sapporo, Sierra Nevada, Stella Artois, Dogfish Head 90 Minute
  • Non-Alcoholic: Coconut water, Evian, Red Bull, San Pellegrino, Vitamin Water

So if you’re just looking for a drink, then the Classic should have you covered. If you have finer tastes or enjoy fancy cocktails, the Premium package is likely a better choice.

We will say that on a recent cruise, the large portion of specialty cocktails were $17 and above per glass.

What If I Buy a Drink Above the $10/$17 Price Limit?

celebrity cruises drink package reviews

Say you have the Classic Beverage Package — which only has a $10 per glass limit — but want a drink that costs more.

In that case, Celebrity’s policy is that you have to pay for the overage. So if you order a $14 cocktail, then you’ll be charged only $4, plus the 20% gratuity on that overage amount.

It’s the same situation if you have the higher-priced package and go over the $17 per glass limit.

Can I Share Drinks With the Package?

It is universal across cruise lines — including Celebrity — that sharing is not allowed. This is a reason that cruise lines require all adults to buy the drink package if one person in the cabin does so. That way, there isn’t a big worry about sharing.

That said, unless you are blatantly obvious it’s not likely that anyone will know if you do share a drink.

How Many Drinks Can I Buy at Once With the Package?

celebrity cruises drink package reviews

While most people simply order one drink at a time, there are times where you might want to order more. Unfortunately, Celebrity’s drink package rules state that you can only order one drink at a time. Extras are charged at the regular menu price. So if you’re wanting to get a drink for you and your spouse, you’ll both need to order something instead of just one person heading to the bar.

Is There a Limit on How Many Drinks I Can Order in a Day?

No. While some cruise lines have daily limits on the number of drinks you can buy in a 24-hour period with their drink packages, Celebrity specifically says that there is no daily limit on the cruise line.

That said, if you are obviously overserved, then don’t be surprised if the crew declines to give you another drink.

Do I Have to Buy the Package For The Entire Cruise?

If you decide that you want to buy a drink package, then you should know that it must be bought for the entire length of the cruise. So on a 7-day cruise, you’ll pay the daily charge each day for the entire week.

You can’t just pick and choose days to purchase the package.

How Can I Save Money on the Drink Package?

There’s no doubt that the drink package can cost a lot of money over the course of your cruise. But there are a few ways that you can save some cash.

First, if you know that you’ll want one of the drink packages, then buy it ahead of time. Celebrity offers discounts for pre-booking the packages. On a recent cruise, this discount was 10% off the normal price.

Second, you can potentially save with Celebrity’s “All Included” offer. The cruise lines offers two different fares — cruise only and All Included. With the offer, you pay more than the base cruise fare, but wi-fi, and a drink package is included. (For most cabins, the Classic Drink Package is included; those cabins in The Retreat receive the Premium Drink Package.)

While you’ll want to do the math, this can be a less expensive way to get the drink package. For instance, we priced an 8-night cruise with the All Included package for about $440 more per person over the base cruise fare. The Classic package would cost more than $700 alone for that length of trip (before gratuity).

Is the Celebrity Drink Package Worth It?

There’s no argument that the cost of a drink package can be pricey. Over a 7-day trip, the cost of the Classic Drink Package would run $747 with gratuity included. The Premium Drink Package would cost $882.

So is it worth it?

Obviously, the answer is going to depend on the specific person. Are you the sort of person that isn’t on vacation unless there is a drink in your hand? Then yes, the drink package is likely going to be worth it.

Or are you the sort of person that may like to let loose for a night or two but then take it easy? In that case, it’s likely not. But it’s helpful to do the math.

On a cruise ship beers are typically around $8-12 each. Cocktails run around $10-20 each. (You’ll have some options for the Classic Drink Package, but specialty cocktails are almost always above the $10 price tag.)

For the $89 Classic Drink Package, you have to drink nine $10 cocktails each day to get your money’s worth. For the higher-end Premium Drink Package, you’d have to drink six cocktails priced at $17 each before you come out ahead.

That is a lot, but that figure doesn’t include things like bottled waters, coffees, or sodas, which can also add up quickly.

As well, there is something to be said about not having to worry about having to keep tabs on your bar bill during the cruise. Want to try a new drink? There’s no risk of not liking it. If that’s the case, you can just order something else.

If you are on the fence of being unsure whether the package would be worth it for you or not, remember that the All Included offer may make the choice much easier. With a potentially lower price for the package, it could put the math in your favor.

Unless you’re an alcoholic, the drink package is not worth it even if the cruise line offers a higher fare covering it. You’re better off buying drinks a-la-carte. My recent cruise, we had a drink package. I kept track of soft drinks and alcoholic beverages that we consumed. I used an average of $5 per soft drink and $15 per alcohol drinks. If I had paid out of pocket, I would have spent $430 for our 7 day cruise. I paid an estimated $900 for the included drink package in the fare. The only reason we had so many drinks was because we had the drink package. Ordinarily I wouldn’t drink that much. I think next time we will forego the drink package and just buy drinks a-la-carte and save some money.

Is the 20% gratuities on the drinks that get charged to your account covered by the gratuities package?

Yes, you are charged the 20% on the value of the package. Then you’re covered when you actually get a beverage at the bar.

Is the non-alcoholic package worth buying? I was thinking that we could buy that and only pay out of pocket for a few drinks for me since my husband no longer drinks alcohol. Thanks for your time!

If you got the classic drink package as part of the all inclusive, where do the 20% gratuity come in? Is is part of the cruise price or is it added later? Tx

I can’t seem to find a price list for none alcoholic drinks like juice and specialty coffee, do you know how much they generally cost? I have a feeling during a day I might like a special coffee a juice and perhaps one non alcoholic cocktail so just 3 drinks would it be better to just pay for them individually?

You can estimate about $3-5 for these items ($5-7 for a non-alc cocktail). At just three drinks, you’d want to skip the drink package. However, Celebrity offers the all-inclusive package with fares. In that case, you’ll want to see how much more the included fare (which has drinks, tips, and wi-fi included) costs versus the bare bones cost.

But at three non-alcoholic drinks, you’ll be spending around $15-20.

Sorry I meant, Drinks without the drink package.

Is there anything included in the standard cruise without packages.

Not alcoholic drinks. Basic drinks like tea, water, and coffee are included.

Standard “bar brand” type cocktails are around 10 bucks. Some are more. Look at the list of included booze for the different packages. If you don’t see what you like in the classic checkout premium. Moat everything you can order at any of the bars is included in the premium. Only some very high end top shelf stuff like Louis xiii or Macallan 18 or 20 yr old scotch are over the 17 buck limit. If you juat like basic booze the classic is fine. I check with the bartender when ordering to make sure. You may end up signing for an overage if you don’t check.

20% is added on to the total. They add gratuities to drinks if you buy them one at a time as well. No different

Hello, I have been searching to find the answer to the Classic Drink package as to whether or not it includes soda and regular bottle water? I have reached out to celebrity several times but the wait times have been over 2 hours. If you happen to know the answer to this, I would greatly appreciate your input.

Yes. From Celebrity’s website of what’s included:

“Non-Alcoholic: Juices, Sodas, Non-Premium bottle water, Premium coffees, Premium teas”

So what is the cost of a Jim Beam and water or Canadian Club and water?

Or a frozen drink like a mud slide or strawberry daiquiri?

I’m confused on the difference of the drink packages when you don’t know what is charged per drink

If there are 2 adults in the room with the classic drink package, can only one of them upgrade to the premium package? Since the other doesn’t drink.

Yes. Use your card for premium drinks for you. If the other doesn’t drink just get the zero proof package for them. No need to waste money on a classic. The package is listed on your room key/ID card.

Thanks for great info. I was wondering if I book a celebrity veranda room for 3 guests ( 2 adults and 10 year old kid ) with all inclusive ( drink, wifi and gratuity), do we get any discount for kids or is it same price for kid as adults. Thanks

So the 10 year old will obviously get the zero-proof package, but not sure if it’s priced less.

Thanks for the info, does the ship offer events like cocktails making glasses or Martin testing g do glasses, that the package will cover?

Tastings are all ala carte charges, not included in drink package.

So wait…the 20% gratuity is added per day instead of per drink?! Is there a way to opt out of the daily gratuity if you don’t intend to use the package that often…like say you don’t get any drinks for a few days or something like that?

With drink packages you pay one set daily fee — no matter what. Drink 10 drinks and you pay the same as if you had 0 drinks. Then the 20% is added on to the daily cost of the package. That’s why you want to do the math before you buy to see if it’s worth it.

When you sail with Celebrity Cruises, you no longer need to consider purchasing a drinks package. Every Celebrity cruise includes a drink package, gratuities, and basic Wi-Fi with the “Always Included” cruise fare.

Including the Celebrity Cruises drink package with the standard fare provides a more all-inclusive approach to cruising.

If the Classic package isn’t enough, you can always upgrade to the Premium drinks package, which includes higher-priced beverages, large martinis, and Champagne.

But is the drink package worth it on Celebrity Cruises?

We’ve got all the details and a simple calculator to help you decide if Celebrity Cruises drink packages are right for you.

Keep reading to learn all about the beverage packages, or click the link to visit the drink package calculator .

Table of Contents

Celebrity Cruises Drink Package

Celebrity Cruises offers four drink packages:

  • Classic Package: Starting at $89 per day
  • Premium Package: Starting at $109 per day
  • Zero Proof Drink Package: Starting at $30 per day

Classic Package

Celebrity Cruises’ Classic Beverage Package is popular among Celebrity guests.

The Classic package starts at $89 per person per day and includes the following up to $10 per drink:

  • Frozen drinks
  • Non-premium bottled water
  • Specialty coffees and teas
  • Vitamin Water

You receive a complimentary Classic drink package when you purchase the Celebrity Cruises “Always Included” cruise fare . The “all-inclusive” cruise fare includes the beverage package bundled with your cruise fare, among other extras.

The selection of beverages covered by the drinks package covers most of the beers and wines on the ship.

You also receive a 15% discount on bottles of wine.

What if you want to purchase a drink over $10?

It’s simple. If you want to purchase a drink that costs more than $10, you will only be charged the difference plus a 20% gratuity on the difference.

Premium Package

Celebrity cruise drink packages martini bar

The Premium Package is a good option if you want higher-priced drinks.

Premium Package starts at $109 per person per day and includes the following up to $15 per drink:

The premium package covers most drinks offered at the onboard bars and restaurants.

With the premium package, you also get a 20% discount on bottles of wine.

The normal price for the package is $109 per person per day. But, when you receive the Classic package as part of the Always Included fare, you can upgrade to the premium package for only $12 per person per day.

The premium drinks package is your best option for a truly all-inclusive experience on your Celebrity cruise.

Zero Proof Drink Package

Celebrity Cruises Drink Package kids beverage

The Zero Proof Drink Package is Celebrity Cruises’ non-alcoholic drink package.

The Zero Proof Drink Package starts at $30 per person per day and includes the following:

  • Zero-proof cocktails (Frozen & Non-Frozen)
  • Fresh squeezed juices
  • Premium coffees and teas
  • Bottled water

Is it Worth Upgrading to the Premium Beverage Package?

Passengers enjoying the Celebrity Cruises beverage package on the magic carpet bar

If you have the Classic drink package in your Always Included fare, you might wonder if it’s worth upgrading to the Premium beverage package.

Remember, if you have the Classic package, you can upgrade to the Premium drink package for $12 per person per day.

For most beer and wine drinkers, the upgrade to the premium package isn’t worth it because many of the included drinks are already included in the Classic Beverage Package.

There’s no benefit to upgrading unless you want to purchase higher-priced cocktails, beers, and fine wine.

I would only suggest upgrading if you want a particular brand or prefer to drink higher-priced beverages such as cocktails or gluten-free beer.

How to Upgrade to the Premium Beverage Packages

Bartender on a Celebrity Cruise Ship

So, you’ve received the Classic drink package with your Always Included fare but want to upgrade to the premium package. Now, how do you upgrade?

Celebrity Cruises allows guests to upgrade their drink package costs $12 per person per day.

The first way to upgrade your beverage packages is to upgrade only your drink packages from the Classic Beverage Package to the Premium Package.

After you upgrade, you will receive all of the benefits of the premium package.

But there is another way to upgrade that may save you more money in the long run.

Celebrity Drink Packages Review

Welcome to my Celebrity Drink Packages webpage , the main goal of this page is to help you decide which package is right for your cruise.

The are two basic Celebrity Drink Packages available for you to purchase.

  • Classic Package: Includes cocktails, wines, spirits and frozen drinks up to $8 and beers up $6. The cost of this package is $55 per person per night plus 15% gratuity and not all in the cabin need to purchase it.
  • Premium Package: This is possibly the best package out there, it includes pretty much any drink under $13. The cost of this package is $65 per person per night, plus 15% gratuity.

Celebrity Drink Packages Personal Review.

When traveled on the Celebrity Silhouette when had the complimentary  classic package as part of the 123 promotion. After I noticed the benefits of having the premium package I decided to upgrade us to the other package. I was so very grateful to do so. All I have to say is the Premium package is the way to go! You will be drinking anything and everything you can think of. From pellegrino at all times, premium coffees at Al Bacio, any mixed drink including all the ones at molecular and martini bar and much much more. The package is a true luxury, I wish I could afford on all my cruises, but unfortunately that is out of the question under my current budget. I am usually against drink packages, mainly because I cannot justify them and I happen to find it hard to break even. But that is not the case for many people, and I will say one thing, Celebrity has by far the best drink package out of any cruise line. They include so much more and the limitations are basically none existent. I you’re thinking on purchasing a drink package for the first time and you happen to going be going on a Celebrity cruise, think no more and just purchase of the  Celebrity Cruise Drink Packages . They go unrivaled in this category!

Celebrity Cruises Drinks & Bar Menus – Know what to expect on your next cruise

On a recent voyage (December 2023), we took the time to scan each of the drink menus on the Celebrity Constellation. These menus are representative of the drink & cocktail prices across the fleet of Celebrity ships, though some newer ships may have more unique bar menus.

Don’t forget that the prices do not include the mandatory 20% gratuity/service charge

We thought the prices were in line with most major cruise lines, however, there were an incredible number of standard wines and other beverages that were not available during the voyage leaving only more expensive options to choose from. If this is what is happening across the company it makes the drink package(s) seem like a decent deal if you can get it at the right price.

Pool Bar & Buffet Beverage Menus on Celebrity

The typical menus found at the pool bars and in the buffet area of the ships. Some of the beer, in my opinion, is excessively priced. The rest of the drinks seem on par with what you’d expect on any cruise line.

Cocktail & Bar Menus

The bar menus in the lounges vary, but this is the staple offering across the cruise line. Most cocktails were $12 throughout the ship and none were poured “light”.

Celebrity Cruises Wine Menu

Even though there was a dedicated wine bar on our latest cruise, the options seemed quite limited. Many weren’t available even if listed. What is posted as the available brands on the Celebrity website is unfortunately quite different than what the reality is.

Celebrity Cruises Martini Bar Menu

The martini bars on the Celebrity ships are hugely popular, for good reason! But the prices have gone up quite a bit in recent years. At $17 each, there are no martinis that now fit within the Classic beverage package, meaning you have to splurge for the Premium drink package if you want them included (or pay the difference in cost of a few dollars).

Other drink Prices on Celebrity Cruises

We try to scan every menu while we’re on a cruise, but for whatever reason, Celebrity has pulled many of the menus that are more general and replaced them with the above cocktail menus that aren’t totally inclusive.

It could be because of the rapid price changes across the fleet.

It left us asking everywhere we went, how much certain spirits were before we ordered. It was relatively frustrating to not be able to know what was offered and what the pricing was like.

Here are a few takeaways from our inquiries while onboard:

  • Macallan is $19 a pour now.
  • Woodford is at $17 a pour
  • There are very few wines and beers within the $10 price of the basic drink package
  • Wines by the glass and beers are priced between $12 and $17
  • There is an “elevated” selection of wines by the glass anywhere between $22-$36

Thank you so much for posting the costs via the ship’s menus. We are embarking on a 16-day repositioning cruise in 2025. I fear adding the drink packages will be pretty pricey! I think we’ll go “by the drink!” I’d also be interested in how many people on average take the repositioning cruises — are they usually full or just partly so — do you have any idea?

Hi Judy – I take a couple repositioning cruises per year and they’re never full, but the last one I just did was nearly 90%! Which is crazy to me. In the past if they reached 70% capacity, that would be a lot. So expect they’ll be fuller these days, but I doubt they’d be at 100% capacity. As for the drink package, it starts to be worth it if you end up having a few drinks a day. It also allows to experiment and not feel bad about not drinking something you don’t love. But yes, it’s really expensive for sure. I’ve done long cruises with and without a package, and I’ve always found I end up drinking more because of sea days and it ends up the package is always cheaper. (in my case)

Thanks for sharing the drink menus. Helps us to decide to upgrade out drink package to premium. Much appreciated. Pattie

I’m glad this helped Pattie! Unfortunately you almost have to upgrade the drink package to get anything decent now 🙁

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks so much for the above information, really helps me. I’m trying to find out the cost of spirits, especially whiskey.Do you have this information please. Thankyou

Hi Sue – They weirdly didn’t have separate spirits menus! I do know Dewar’s White Label, Famous Grouse, Jim Beam, Johnnie Walker Red, Monkey Shoulder, Seagram’s VO were all under $10 for a single pour. Since these are under the higher end drink package, they’ll be less than $17 : Aberfeldy 12, Bulleit Bourbon, Chivas Regal 12, Dewar’s 12, Gentleman Jack, The Glenlivet, Jack Daniel’s Black, Jack Daniel’s Rye, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, Johnnie Walker Black, Johnnie Walker Double Black, The Macallan Lumina, The Macallan Quest, Maker’s Mark, Rittenhouse Rye, Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve.

I hope this helps a little. Unfortunately, I looked at all the menus we have and none are specific with prices of their other brands.

Perfect, thankyou so much. Just trying to work out if it’s worth the drinks package, this helps a lot. Do they put the 20%on every drink you order rather than the package?? Thanks for your help

If you don’t buy a package, and buy drinks as you go, the gratuity is added on every drink. If you buy the package, there is a 20% gratuity added to the package during checkout, and you won’t pay anymore – UNLESS – the drink you order isn’t covered by the package, then you pay 20% on the difference of the price only.

Thankyou, It’s very strange because we’ve reserved the package and the 20%wasnt added, just wanted to check it wouldn’t be later. Really appreciate your help and advice.

That is strange, are you by chance outside of the US? On European and UK prices, the price includes gratuities (not separate line item during checkout like it is in the USA)

Yes,I did wonder if this was the case. Yes in uk

Cruise drink packages: A line-by-line guide

Gene Sloan

It's easy to run up a monster bill ordering wine, beer and mixed drinks by the glass on a cruise ship. The cost of alcoholic drinks on cruise vessels — particularly cocktails — can be pricey. But for those who regularly order several alcoholic drinks a day when cruising, there's a way to save: a flat-fee drink package.

Nearly all the major mass-market cruise lines offer flat-fee drink packages that, in some cases, can save you money when cruising. The exceptions are Disney Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages , though both offer alternative ways to save on beverage purchases.

What's included in a cruise ship drink package, and how do they work? And, perhaps more to the point, how much do cruise drink packages cost? Read on for the answers in this ultimate guide to cruise drink packages.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

For a line-by-line guide to drink package costs, inclusions, limitations and fine print, scroll to the second half of the guide.

What is a drink package on a cruise ship?

Cruise ship drink packages let you order as many drinks as you want while on a cruise for one flat fee. This takes the place of paying for drinks one at a time.

At some lines, there are several tiers of drink packages. Basic tiers often include just sodas and bottled water. More elaborate (and expensive) tiers will add alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails, wine, beer and specialty coffee drinks. In some cases, there will be more than one tier of such all-encompassing plans.

Some lines also offer coffee cards that let you get a fixed number of fancy coffee drinks at a shipboard coffee bar for a discounted price. Some also offer wine-specific packages.

How much do alcoholic drink packages cost on cruise ships?

The cost of cruise ship drink packages varies widely by line. At several of the biggest cruise brands, including Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America , the main drink packages that include all types of drinks cost about $60 per person per day. Other brands, such as Norwegian Cruise Line , charge as much as $138 per person per day for a top-tier package.

Drink packages that don't include alcoholic drinks, such as soda packages, typically cost far less. Soda packages often are under $10 per person per day. Note that some cruise lines discount drink packages if you buy them online in advance of sailing, and others offer periodic sales on their drink packages online.

Can you buy drinks on a cruise without a drink package?

celebrity cruises drink package reviews

Yes. All major cruise lines will let you buy drinks on an a la carte basis when cruising. You don't need a drink package to be able to drink alcoholic beverages or any other type of beverage on a ship.

Can you share a drink package on a cruise ship?

In many cases, no. Several of the biggest cruise lines, including Carnival, Holland America and MSC Cruises, have a rule that if one adult in a cabin orders a drink package, all adults in the cabin must order the package. This is to prevent two or more people in a cabin from sharing a single drink package.

Two lines that notably don't have such a rule are Princess Cruises and Windstar Cruises . Technically, you are not supposed to use your package to buy drinks for other people.

Are drink packages on cruise ships really unlimited?

It depends. Some cruise lines, such as Carnival, limit the number of alcoholic drinks that any one person can order using a drink package to 15 in a day. That is, of course, an enormous number — more than most people will ever want to order.

Where can you use a cruise ship drink package?

Cruise ship drink packages generally are honored anywhere you can order a drink on a ship — think bars, lounges and eateries. However, you usually can't use them when ordering room service. They also generally don't apply to drinks taken out of cabin minibars. Be sure to check the fine print in your particular line's drink package before placing an order for a drink to your room.

Some cruise lines also let you use your packages when visiting their private islands .

A line-by-line guide to cruise drink packages

celebrity cruises drink package reviews

Below is a line-by-line look at available drink packages at the major lines that offer them. Note that the pricing listed is per person per day. In cases where a line offers more than one drink package, we've highlighted the most inclusive package in detail while also noting other packages cruisers can consider.

What it includes: Beer, wine by the glass, mixed drinks, specialty cocktails, soda, juices, nonalcoholic cocktails, energy drinks, specialty coffees, teas and most bottled water. The package also features a 25% discount on wine bottle purchases.

Limitations related to drink cost: Cannot be used for drinks priced over $20

Fine print: More expensive drinks are available at a 25% discount. If one adult in a cabin purchases the package, all adults in the same cabin also must purchase it. There's a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks per person in a 24-hour period.

Celebrity Cruises drink package

Fine print: If one person in a cabin purchases a package, all people in the same cabin or traveling group also must purchase a package (children in cabins will be charged for a less expensive, nonalcoholic package). Packages are not available on sailings shorter than three nights, with the exception of South America sailings. You can use your room key to charge drinks, including soda/bottled water to your credit card at any bar, dining room, cafe, etc.  Tea, coffee, water, etc., are available at no charge in the dining room or in the cafe.  I there is a coffee/tea/water station in the cafe that is open 24 hours on all of the ships.

Welcome to cruise critic. You can buy anything you want to drink (shots, mixed drinks, umbrella drinks, beer, wine) from any bar on the ship. It is a feature of cruising!

5,000+ Club

There is free tea, coffee, water, lemon juice, mixed fruit juice available in the cafe.

In the MDR there is free iced water, tea, coffee and milk. You can order wine by the glass or bottle. If you buy a bottle they will cork and save any left over for the next night.

You can bring on board two bottles of wine to drink in your suite or pay corkage ($20?) in any restaurant.

You can ask your room attendant to bring you ice to your room twice daily which obviously then provides chilled water.

Some events (art auction) offer free glasses of fizz.

Easy to purchase drinks as you go. They are simply charged to your card. You can review your spending on the TV.

There are a range of drink packages available, not all are alcoholic, so worth browsing the web site.

Not everyone in each room needs to purchase a drinks package so if on boarding you decide one of you is happy with the free options but the other of you wants a drinks package then you can do this.

Hope you have a fantastic first cruise!

The buffet has dispensers for coffee and hot water, with teabags and hot chocolate packets available. Also dispensers of orange juice, a couple of other fruit juice blends, and one of those dispensers switches to iced tea at lunch.  Also if you ask you can get various kinds of nondairy milk.

Hope you enjoy, I warn you cruising is addictive!

Make sure you find out as much as you can about the ship you are cruising on. The three different ship types have their own characteristics. Easy to miss events, food and drink venues etc if you are unfamiliar with the ship. There are lots of reviews on Cruise Critic and descriptions on the Celebrity website. If you have any further questions simply add another post. Welcome to Cruise Critic too, many of us find reading and posting on here quite addictive also!

You may be able to drop off items when you board.  You typically can get into your room at 1 pm.  Luggage usually arrives between 3 and 5 pm.

20,000+ Club

Lately when you board you go to your cabin and can drop off any items you carried on.  The cabin may not be ready but you can use the time to get lunch and begin exploring the ship.  There will be an announcement when the cabins are ready to be occupied.

And although you don’t have a specific drink package, make sure what your booking is. Many of our bookings are what are called Always Included and drinks, gratuities and standard internet are part of your cruise fare.

it’s more than a bit confusing to tell if you have it. Check with your Travel Agent or who you booked with and ask them.

These are the “Baristas” in the Coffee and Cake Cafe “La Bacio”. The crew on boards seemed genuinely happy and we never had any bad service in the public areas.

The funnel of the Apex is in the form of an X, referring to the days that the company was called Chandris Cruises which is spelled with an X in Greek. It came forth out of the emigrant carrier days and then in 1990 revamped itself into a 5 star cruise company by building three new ships.

The “Tuscan” restaurant, the larger tables are more in the middle lane.

The Grand Plaza. Very nice room but all the glass around it and reflective ceiling made it very noisy. This photo was taken early on a port morning.

The hallways are fairly small. When the cabin steward trolleys are out, it is impossible for wheel chairs to get by, and results in much maneuvering by the stewards to make it happen.

Our cabin.   The small table with the chair can pushed in if you like for more room to walk around the bed. It would have been nice if there would have been some extra storage space above the bed. There is plenty of room for a few cabinets. (photo picked from the internet as I do not have a wide angle on the camera)

The ship has a 2nd show lounge, which is ls also used as a disco in the evening and cruise staff activities during the day.

Another view of the Tuscan restaurant, with one of the large tables. As this was a 4 day taster cruise, many larger family’s had taken the opportunity to take a cruise for family celebrations and these tables were in high demand in all restaurants.

The view of the Theatre from the stage. We found that the best place to sit was on the light brown rows near the steps. But for that you have to be early.

The Craft & Social Bar on Deck 4 portside. We managed to get in on a port day when it was quiet just after opening time.

Another photo of the Plaza taken. There is some more space for seats here and there. And on this cruise they could have used them if they had been available.

This is a view of the “Normandie” one of the 4 free restaurants on board. It was not our favourite as it had not much atmosphere but it had some French dishes on the menu

When walking aft to the Eden room you have to walk through a rather surreal walkway with silver walls. Although most art has a descriptive plaque with it, I could not find one for this one, so I have no idea what this is supposed to be ? Celebrity in winter time ?

This is the restaurant “Blu”. It is for the guests who travel in the “Aqua Class”. There are two more of these restaurants, reserved for guests for the higher classed cabins.

For those who want to walk there is a jogging/walking track on Deck 14  which loops around the pool area and the Roof top café.  it is a nice idea to split the track up in fast and slow, but I wonder if it works as a lot of “walkers” tend to walk as a couple and the path is not wide enough for that.

Now this I really liked. Hand wash station at the entrance to the Ocean View Cafe. There was also a Lady permanently on duty to give a disinfectant squirt for your hands before walking in. Unfortunately it was shocking to see how many guests ignored both the the hand wash station and the Lady. And then they all complain later when the ships are getting Norovirus.

Celebrity also has a children’s program with two lounges tucked away on Deck 2 near the ships hospital.  This is the teens which was empty on a port day, and then there is a space for 4 to 12 (or similar ages) which had a group of small girls all fully engrossed in a movie called “Frozen”.

With Led screens and good lighting you can put a lounge in flames. This show was called “Rockumentary” a tribute to the most well known rock groups and singers. Nice thing was that everybody was encouraged to take photos and videos of the show, while on most other ships there is always a stern warning not to do so.

All through the ship there is art. Some very large pieces and some very quirky. We came across this one in the smoking area outside the Eden. It is called “Looking Beyond” by Joaquin Vila. As it was raining the crew had put a warning out for the slippery deck and by creating a kneeling figure it looks like it that the artist was anticipating this.

And another one on Deck 14 at the roof top grill entrance. This is by another Spanish artist called Jaume Plensa and the sculpture is called “Duality”

The only seat that was nearly always available was this piece of art (with a nice Lady sitting on it) outside the “EDEN lounge ” entrance. It is called “Empower Flower” and made of fiberglass by the Brazilian artist Ruben Robierb.

Funny 2: I liked the maintenance sign used by the sailors carrying out maintenance. It generates a smile which takes the immediate annoyance away and this looks so much better.

The free drinks worked well and later also the nibbles. The top repeater was introduced with 4000+ points which equated to 55 or more cruises. I do not how that works, as 55 short cruises could be of the same length as 2 world cruises, so I was expecting the number of days to be announced.
