Cadac safari chef 2 review – our new camping stove.

I heard people rave about their Cadac camping stoves. They seem to have a big range, so anyone can find something suitable for their needs. I reached out to the company to see if they were open to collaborating with me. They kindly sent me their Cadac Safari Chef 2 to review.

Our experience with the Cadac Safari Chef 2

Up until now, we were quite lazy with our camping meals. We would just boil some water and eat an expedition meal from a packet. Very quick and lightweight option without having to do any washing up. Great for wild camping or if you rely on public transport.

However, we now have a car and have the space for some more luxurious items. We decided to go car camping on my birthday to the Peak District and Live The Braai Life. I must say, I was very proud of the dishes we cooked on the barbecue during these 4 days. We kept all the meat in a camping fridge and had some really nice meals. It was nice to slow down from our usual hectic itinerary to cook some nice meals, enjoy the surrounding views and spend some quality time together.

The camping stove is super easy to use. It’s quick to set up and pack away. The Safari Chef 2 has folding legs that allow you to stand it on the floor or on a table. It also comes with a carrier bag, which makes it easy to tuck into your car!

The best thing about this stove is that it can multipurpose. The unit comes with a ceramic BBQ Grill Plate and Flat Plate. It also has an enamelled Dome Lid which doubles as a pot for cooking and a removable pot stand for use with your own kettle and pans So you can boil a kettle on it, fry or bbq food. It also works as a pizza oven with the pizza stone accessory. The camping stove runs from disposable gas cartridges that screw directly to the unit, meaning no need for regulators and bulky cylinders.

I had no issue cleaning the plates, even after the fatty meat. I just used warm soapy water. But some parts are also dishwasher safe.

Sausages with asparagus and potatoes English breakfast (bacon, eggs and baked beans) Kofta kebabs and corn on the hob Pizza and garlic bread

Who is the Cadac Safari Chef 2 for?

• Good size cooking surface for two people, but it is probably too small for a family
• People who do car camping, or I can imagine taking it on a canoe trip as well. But probably not suitable for backpacking trips, as you want to keep weight and size down.

All in all we are very happy with our new camping stove. We will take it on all our car camping trips and we can’t wait to try out new recipes with it.

I contacted Cadac sending images of…

I contacted Cadac sending images of failing parts, immediate response saying they deal with problems in arrival order. They sent a new Cadac Safari Chef 30 within 2 weeks. I did not have to send any parts back which would have been a hassle. Excellent telephone help spoke to a real human !!

Carol at cadac was fantastic.

Carol at cadac was fantastic. I had a new cadac cook3 delivered damaged by another company who wouldn't sort the problem, so I wrote to cadac to buy a new lid myself. But Carol suggested we claim under warranty and sent me a new lid free of charge. Fantastic and pretty rare customer service, especially as I wasn't down to them. Excellent company to deal with, and would make me continue to buy their products.

Purchased a Cadac BRAAI40 electric BBQ…

Purchased a Cadac BRAAI40 electric BBQ last weekend, and decided to test before going away in the the caravan....so glad we did as it went faulty after once up to temperature. Set to 300deg C with the pizza stone installed, got to temp and the threw E-01 error up (temp probe), turned off, no change, it then started reading 0deg C for a while. Once cooled down started reading again (100deg C)...clearly a faulty thermistor. Will be going back as no faith in the product now and defiantly can not rely on it for a weeks away only cooking device...heaven knows how it would deal with cold and damp conditions.

Great products and customer service

Great products and customer service. I've been using the Carry Chef 2 on a weekly basis at home during the summer and the Safari Chef Pro for park visits etc... Amazing products! I did have a small issue with one of the regulators, I emailed Cadac and got a response then next day asking for more info which I sent. They have now shipped a replacement regulator so I should be back braai'ing before the weekend!

Great product and great customer service

We purchased a Cadac earlier this year which we absolutely love. Unfortunately, its ignition didn’t work so we contacted Cadac and they gave us the option of a replacement part or they could collect and repair. We opted for the part which arrived quickly and was easy to replace and now the ignition works a treat. Really good product with great customer service.

Excellent Customer service

Contacted Cadac customer services, as after purchasing the leg levellers and trying to fit while on site, I managed to lose the little nut that keeps the whole thing tightened and on the leg. I asked for a replacement nut which the lady agreed to send me in the post. Well after a couple of days, it arrived - not just the nut, but a completely new leveller. Well done Cadac for excellent customer service, but going above and beyond what I actually expected.

Recently purchased an Safari Chef 2 BBQ upon great feedback from various people and FB sites. Unfortunately upon 1st use it developed an fault. Cadac Warranty team were great . Special thanks to Allison , whom provided great support. Identifying and replaced the faulty component. Our Cadac developed an issue where it…

Our Cadac developed an issue where it caught fire after use damaging the burner plate and the dome. Even though our warranty had run out Cadac were amazing. Collection was within days and dome and burner plate replaced. Carol was amazing and always contactable and we experienced wonderful service. Can’t fault it, and want to say a massive thank you to all that supported us.

Having used my Citi Chef 50 throughout…

Having used my Citi Chef 50 throughout the summer I can honestly say it’s one of the best purchases I have made. So simple to use, it’s large grill easily copes when we have family get togethers and it’s really easy to clean. We also purchased a Pizza Stone and a Paella Pan as the cooking surface can easily be changed unceasing it’s practicality. Wouldn’t be without it 5 stars 👏🏻👍🏻

great product dreadful service…

bought a cadac safari after a friends recommendation, very nice product BUT, you cannot buy Cadac gas cannisters locally even from Cadac authorised dealers.You can buy on line but you have to pay twice the price because of delivery charges between £12 and £15 for a 500m cartridge...extortionate. I contacted Cadac only to be told they dont dont influence who stocks their products and to Buy a Coleman or go gas as they have the same fittings.. I then went onto Cadacs website to see what they charge for cartridges, dont know as they are out of stock. About time they pulled their socks up and made sure their products are easily available

Great product and fantastic after sales service. I bought a Cadac 2 Pro barbeque, well made and the perfect size for me. I also needed a regulator to connect it to my 13 Kg gas bottle. Unfortunately the recommended and supplied regulator did not fit my bottle. I emailed Cadac and explained the problem - they got in touch quickly and sent me a bespoke regulator that does the job. Not having much luck with my warranty claim

I bought a Safari Chef 2 in May this year. Despite very light use and good care, the ignition stopped working soon after and it now burns with an orange flame and does not get hot enough to grill anything. I’ve tried contacting customer services team and eventually had a ticket raised (4565) when I emailed all the details again to the warranty dept. I just haven’t had any reponse or solution. It’s really poor customer service when you consider how expensive these items are.

Cool Carri Chef

We have a Carri Chef BBQ and we took it on a family camping holiday for the first time this year. There was a large group( 20) of us and we used it to prepare Breakfasts ( sausage, fried and poached eggs, bacon, beans etc) and Evening meals( pizza, fajitas, & traditional bbq food). All cooked really well and there was enough space on the bbq for everyone. We have used it many times over the year and can honestly say it's been well worth the purchase. Fully recommend.

Can I cook a roast in this cooker

G'day Maryanne, You could potentially fit a small to medium whole chook, or a smaller rolled roast of some variety. It wouldn't fit a leg of lamb or anything like that. Hope that helps!

LCC 27 gas cylinder fittings 1 answer

Now that all new gas appliances big and small have LCC27 hose fittings will there be no LCC27 adapters for use with cylinders smaller than 3.7 kg.? If so the compact cookers and barbeques will be a bit pointless.- yes/no ?

G'day Gavin, Generally it's only the gas appliances requiring a regulated gas supply that have always been POL, and now are the new LCC27 connection. Due to the extensive safety design of the LCC27 it's not able to be used with adapters to connect to other fittings. At this stage the 3.7Kg bottles are the smallest size with that LCC27 however that may not always be the case. It 100% does not make compact cookers and BBQs pointless, as people have been happily using the swap-and-go bottle for years and years.  POL changing to LCC27 doesnt change that, and the gas supply is still readily accessible. If you don't want to use the 3.7kg LPG cylinders, you can look at grabbing the  Dual Power Pak hose - in the You Might Also Like section - and power this cooker from  Butane/Propane hiking style cannisters which are readily available for all outdoor stores.

COMPACT OUTDOOR COOKING

The Safari Chef 30 Compact is an ultra-compact & lightweight gas barbecue. It works directly of a  227gr gas cartridge , making it the perfect appliance for outdoor activities and short camping holidays.  Simply place the cartridge into the appliance, lock it in place with the lever and turn the control knob to start cooking or grilling.

Despite its small size, the Safari Chef Compact is extremely versatile due to the various cooking tops included; a pot stand, BBQ grid and pot/lid. Use the pot stand to cook a pot of soup or pasta. The BBQ grid has CADAC's GreenGrill coating and is perfect for baking and grilling meat, fish and vegetables. The lid can also be used as a pan and is therefore multifunctional.

The fat pan collects any cooking residues when you use the BBQ grid, but also serves as a wind screen so that the burner does not blow out on windy days.

A convenient carry bag is included for easy storage and portability.

Note: the difference between Safari Chef 30 Compact & Safari Chef 30 Compact Lite is the flat grid that is not included in the Lite version. 

It is possible to use the E Braai while camping, if you have enough power available. The E Braai uses 2,3kW. This is comparable to 10 ampere. On many camping spots you can use about 6 to 10 ampere. That is not enough for the E Braai, because you also use power for example a refrigerator and lighting. It is important to always check in advance how many ampere you have available when you go out camping.

The “U” Grills on the Meridian range and the specially designed grids with integrated heat diffuser of our portable / camping barbecues, trap and distribute the heat evenly which ensures even cooking temperatures, so there are no cold spots on your braai grid.

CADAC barbecues are easy to assemble. Our portable barbecues are ready to use in a minute, no need for any tools. Our Meridian grills can be assembled within a couple of minutes, because of its smart construction, a limited amount of spare parts and a clear manual.

Our cooking tops have a non-stick ceramic coating, making them easy to clean. Our portable barbecues & Citi Chefs have an enameled fat pan that can easily be removed and washed. Cleaning has never been this simple; just use a sponge and some water with detergent.

The burner box of CADAC Meridian barbecues have clean and smooth inside surfaces made from enamel coated steel or coated aluminium.The removable fat tray collects cooking residues. After grilling, you can easily remove the tray from the front of the barbecue for cleaning.

Most of our cooking surfaces are supplied with a ‘CADAC GreenGrill coating’. This ceramic coating is made from organic materials and doesn’t contain any toxic substances.

The CADAC GreenGrill is much more durable and harder than normal non-stick coating. It resists higher temperatures, divides the heat better and holds this heat, so less gas is used while grilling.

Cooking tops are very easy to clean with some water and detergent.
