Belize Visa Information

Belize welcomes immigrants who are in a position to come to the country and establish themselves without government assistance for any of the following purposes:

Agricultural purposes, either on a small holding or plantation basis Industrial development Sponsored employment by established commercial organizations Professional and skilled persons whose expertise is generally identified to be in demand in Belize Retirees who wish to reside permanently in Belize, who are the recipients of regular remittances from abroad, and/or who have transferred their savings into the banking system of Belize.

Immigrants entering Belize must be of good character, in sound health, financially solvent and in possession of a valid passport or other recognized form of travel document.

Sound Health

The term “sound health” means ‘freedom from any contagious diseases, including, but not limited to, HIV/AIDS, and having no illness or disability likely to interfere with a persons ability to work and maintain him/herself and his/her family. Hence, neither the applicant nor his/her family should, for any reason, become subscribed to public funds by reason of infirmity of mind or body.’

Good Character

“Good Character” is established by the production of police certificates covering ALL periods where the applicant has resided.

All immigrants are required to complete an application form in duplicate and submit it to the Director of Immigration and Nationality Services (see below). Priority is given to persons with specialized technical skills for which local residents are not available. Persons with occupations of professions of ANY sort are not considered if local residents with similar qualifications are unemployed. The opening and managing of shops or restaurants are definitely discouraged. Applications for those purposes are not likely to be approved.

Visa Extension

If the immigrant has been in Belize for thirty (30) days with a valid visa or permit, and requires more time to finish his/her business , he/she must contact the nearest Immigration Office to get an extension. There is a fee of BZ$ 25.00 for every extended period of thirty days. (NB: Citizens of the European Union do not require a visa to enter Belize for a period of one month. ) An individual can apply for permanent residence after having paid one (1) year of legal residence fees in Belize on a continuous basis.

Permanent Residents

The permanent resident fee is BZ$100.00. And as a safeguard against a person becoming a charge to public funds, all immigrants may be required to deposit a sum of money equivalent to the cost of transportation to his/her country of origin. The money is returned after three years or prior to the immigrant’s permanent departure from Belize. As an alternative, and ONLY under certain circumstances, a local resident may post a bond on behalf of the immigrant.

The application form for permanent residence is to be accompanied by two (2) passport-sized photographs of each member of the family wishing to travel to Belize. The back of the pictures must be endorsed with his/her name and signed by a Justice of the Peace or Notary Public. In addition, the applicant should attach to the petition his/her personal bank statements, as well as medical and police records.

All About the Belize Visa

Travelling to the Central American nation of Belize?

This country which was formerly known as British Honduras has many stunning sights to delight tourists. From the Mayan ruins of the Xunantunich temple to the picture-perfect beaches of the Placencia Peninsula.

With loads of exciting activities to do like scuba diving and snorkelling, it is an adventurers paradise.

Unfortunately, there is currently no Belize eVisa available. This means that if you require travel authorisation, you will need to apply for your paperwork via the embassy. This applies to citizens of India for example.

The good news, however, is that citizens of just over 100 countries and territories can enter the country visa-free! We’re pleased to say this includes those holding passports from the United States, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The amount of time you are permitted to stay depends on your nationality. Extensions can be made via the Immigration Department if you want to spend longer enjoying the Caribbean Sea shorelines.

Although many nationalities don’t require travel authorisation to visit this destination, entry requirements stipulate that visitors must hold a passport with at least 3 months validity. Visitors to this country must also have a return ticket and sufficient funds to cover their intended stay.

Discover more about the entry requirements and what documents and information you need to get your travel authorisation below!

You will need to fill in the visa application form, submit some supporting documents and pay the corresponding fee (more details of this in the section below).

If you or your sponsor are already in the country, your application can be submitted at the Belmopan Headquarters Office.

This is located at the following address:

Mountain View Boulevard Belmopan City Cayo District

Tel: + (501) 822-3860 | + (501) 822-0284

For those applying from abroad, the process is as follows:

  • Make an appointment at the consulate.
  • Attend your appointment and submit original and copies of all required documents. The applicant’s signature must be consistent with the signature on the passport.

Please note that documents in languages other than English must be translated by an official party and signed. Translation of documents for Chinese and Taiwanese Nationals must be authenticated at the Regional Language Centre at the University of Belize.

  • Provided that everything is in order, once your documents have been processed and you’ve paid the associated fee, your approved visa will be stamped into your passport.

Citizens of these countries can stay for up to 90 days:

  • Argentina, Brazil, Israel, Japan, Turkey.

How to Get a Belize Tourist Card

Belize qrp services Belize retirement attorney Belize retirement lawyer Belize Qualified Retirement Program relocate to Belize how to retire in Belize best place to retire

Thinking about staying in Belize for a while, perhaps eventually relocating to Belize , but not ready to commit to a long-term residency process? The Belize tourist card, also known as a visitor’s visa, might be a good fit for you.

The Belize visitor’s visa lets you live in Belize (and fall in love with everything the country has to offer) on a monthly basis.

U.S. and Canadian citizens can even visit Belize without a visa for up to 30 days if they are travelling as tourists. After that, you must obtain a visa and renew it for US$100.00 every month.

Monthly renewals after the first six months will cost US$100.00 per month. The only downside here is having to renew your visa every month. But the process is quite simple and hassle-free. Simply visit a local immigration office to get a stamp before your 30 days are up. If you’re in Belize City, the local immigration office is an 18-minute drive from the airport.

Click here to find the nearest Belize immigration office.

Permanent residents of many countries can obtain a tourist card without applying in advance. Countries, where this is the case, include those that are part of the CARICOM, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Norway, Venezuela, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Colombia, Guatemala, Brazil, and Japan.

Recently visa-free: Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, and Morocco

Residents of other nations need to apply in advance for a tourist card before they travel to Belize. Find out if your country of nationality requires a visa here .

Keep in mind that you’ll be asked to hold proof of onward/return flights.

Once in hand, a Belize visitor’s visa allows you to travel everywhere in our country, as well as buy or rent property. Remember that you’re prohibited from working according to Belize immigration law. And you might need to show proof of sufficient funds when renewing the tourist card.
