Jersey via Sea

Navigating the Waves: Your Complete Guide on How to Get to Jersey via Sea

Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, sits elegantly in the waters between England and France, a gem of natural beauty and rich history. Renowned for its stunning beaches, lush countryside, and a unique blend of British and French cultures, Jersey is a destination that promises both relaxation and adventure. While many opt for air travel, the true charm of reaching this picturesque island lies in traversing the waves. Sea travel to Jersey isn’t just a journey; it’s an experience that begins the moment you step onto the ferry.

The allure of sailing across the English Channel to Jersey is unmatched. The sea route offers panoramic views of the coastline, a sense of serenity away from the bustle of airports, and a slower, more rhythmic pace of travel that allows you to truly unwind. With ferry services like Condor Ferries and Manche Iles Express providing regular trips from various UK ports, the journey to Jersey by sea is convenient, scenic, and an adventure in its own right.

Planning Your Journey

travel options to jersey

Best Time to Travel

Timing is everything when planning a sea voyage to Jersey. The island’s climate is mild, with the warmest months being from May to September, making it the perfect summer getaway. However, these are also the busiest months, so booking in advance is advised. Ferry schedules are more frequent during this peak season, offering greater flexibility in planning your trip.

Comparing Ferry Routes

Your choice of ferry route to Jersey will depend on where you are traveling from. The two main UK departure points are Poole and Portsmouth. Poole offers a shorter crossing, ideal for those who prefer a quicker journey, while Portsmouth, although taking a bit longer, provides a more leisurely sail with ample opportunities to enjoy the open sea. Both routes are operated by Condor Ferries, ensuring a consistent level of service and comfort.

Duration and Frequency of Services

The ferry journey from Poole to Jersey takes around 4.5 hours, while from Portsmouth, it’s approximately 10 hours. Condor Ferries operates 6 times a week from Portsmouth, allowing you to choose a day and time that best fits your schedule. It’s important to consider the duration when planning, especially if traveling with family or if you prefer shorter sea travel.

Step-by-Step Guide to Booking Your Ferry

travel options to jersey

Step 1: Choosing Your Departure Port

Your journey begins with selecting a suitable departure port. If you’re closer to Poole or prefer a faster crossing, Poole would be your ideal choice. If you’re near Portsmouth or enjoy longer leisurely sea travel, then Portsmouth is the way to go.

Step 2: Selecting a Ferry Service

Condor Ferries is the primary service provider for journeys from the UK to Jersey. They offer different types of vessels – from the fast Condor Liberation to the more spacious Condor Voyager. Each ferry has its unique features, so choose one that aligns with your comfort and travel preferences.

Step 3: Understanding Ticket Options and Prices

Ferry prices vary based on the time of year, type of seating, and additional services like onboard meals or premium lounges. Standard, saver, and flexible tickets are available, each offering different levels of flexibility and refund options. It’s worth comparing these to find the best fit for your budget and travel plans.

Step 4: Making Reservations and Understanding Cancellation Policies

Booking your ferry ticket can be done easily online through the Condor Ferries website. Ensure you understand the cancellation and refund policies, especially if you opt for a saver ticket, which may offer less flexibility. Once booked, you’ll receive confirmation and all the necessary details for your sea journey to Jersey.

Preparing for Your Ferry Trip

travel options to jersey

Embarking on a ferry to Jersey is not just about reaching the destination; it’s also about the journey itself. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, preparation is key.

Packing Essentials

When packing for a ferry trip, comfort and practicality should be your guiding principles. Since you’ll be on the sea for a few hours, consider layers of clothing to adapt to changing temperatures. Don’t forget essentials like sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, especially if you plan to spend time on the deck enjoying the views. If prone to seasickness, packing motion sickness medication is advisable.

Navigating Luggage Restrictions

One of the perks of ferry travel is the generous luggage allowance. Unlike airplanes, you can bring more baggage without worrying about hefty fees. If you’re traveling by car, you can pack it with holiday essentials, from bikes to surfboards. Just remember to check the specific allowances and restrictions on the Condor Ferries website to avoid any surprises.

Preparing for On-Board Facilities and Services:

Condor Ferries offers a range of onboard facilities to enhance your travel experience. This includes dining options, duty-free shopping, and comfortable lounges. Familiarize yourself with the layout of the ferry and the services available to make the most of your journey. If traveling with children, exploring the entertainment options and areas designated for kids is a good idea to keep them engaged.

On the Day of Departure

travel options to jersey

The day of your departure to Jersey is filled with anticipation and excitement. Here’s what to expect:

Step 1: Arriving at the Ferry Terminal:

Ensure you arrive at the terminal well in advance of your departure time. Check-in usually opens two hours before departure and closes 40 minutes prior. Having some buffer time is always a good idea, especially if you are driving and need to queue for loading.

Step 2: Checking In and Boarding Procedures:

At check-in, you’ll need your booking reference and identification. Once checked in, you’ll receive your boarding pass and instructions on where to wait if you’re a foot passenger or where to line up if you’re with a vehicle. The boarding process is straightforward, and staff are always on hand to assist.

Step 3: Understanding Safety Protocols and Emergency Procedures:

Once on board, pay attention to the safety briefing. Familiarize yourself with the emergency exits and the location of life jackets. Safety is a top priority on ferries, and knowing these procedures, though rarely needed, is a crucial part of being a responsible traveler.

The Ferry Experience

travel options to jersey

The journey across the sea is an integral part of your adventure to Jersey. Here’s what to expect during the ferry ride:

Describing the Journey

As the ferry glides away from the harbor, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the English coastline receding into the distance. The sea journey is tranquil, offering a chance to relax and enjoy the vastness of the ocean. If you’re lucky, you might even spot marine wildlife.

Facilities and Amenities on the Ferry

Condor Ferries are equipped with a range of amenities to ensure a comfortable journey. Enjoy a meal at the restaurant, grab a drink at the bar, or browse the duty-free shop. For added comfort, consider booking a seat in the lounge, where you can enjoy quieter surroundings and better views.

Tips for a Comfortable Journey

To make the most of your ferry trip, move around the vessel, enjoy the fresh sea air on the deck, and engage with fellow travelers. If you’re traveling overnight, consider booking a cabin for a restful sleep. Keeping hydrated and taking breaks to stretch your legs will also help in making your journey more comfortable.

Arriving in Jersey

travel options to jersey

As your ferry approaches Jersey, the anticipation of exploring this charming island grows. Here’s what to expect upon arrival:

Disembarking Procedures

Upon arrival at Jersey’s port, follow the crew’s instructions for disembarking. If you’ve traveled with a vehicle, you’ll be directed to the car deck to prepare for exit. Foot passengers will be guided towards the exit. The process is usually quick and efficient, allowing you to start your Jersey adventure without delay.

Getting from the Port to Your Accommodation

Jersey’s port is well-connected to the rest of the island. If you haven’t rented a car, there are taxis available at the port, and public buses serve major routes across the island. If your accommodation is nearby, you might even enjoy a scenic walk along the coast.

Initial Impressions and Orientation in Jersey

Jersey welcomes you with its blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. Take a moment to soak in the view of the marina, bustling with activity. You’ll find tourist information at the port, offering maps and guides to help orient yourself and plan your stay.

Recommendations for Sea-Related Activities and Tours

Being an island, Jersey offers fantastic sea-based activities. Consider a boat tour around the island, try your hand at sea kayaking, or explore the marine life with a snorkeling session.

Tips for Getting Around the Island

Jersey is well-served by public transport, but renting a car or a bike gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. Many visitors enjoy walking or cycling along the extensive network of green lanes, where pedestrians and cyclists have priority over cars.

Returning Home

All good things come to an end, and so will your time in Jersey. Here’s how to prepare for your return journey:

Planning Your Return Journey by Sea

Check your return ferry schedule in advance and make any necessary arrangements for getting to the port. If you’ve enjoyed your time on the island, consider a late departure to make the most of your final day.

Checking Out of Accommodation and Reaching the Port

Ensure you leave your accommodation with plenty of time to reach the port, especially during peak travel times. If you have some time before your departure, enjoy a leisurely meal or a final stroll along the beach.

Reflecting on the Sea Journey Experience

Where to stay near Jersey airport?

As an island of 9 miles by 5 and with a great, reliable bus service, you don’t need to worry too much about being near the airport. Staying in St Helier is just as simple. However, if you have an early flight then the closest hotel to the airport is Hotel La Place which is a 3 star hotel in St Peter just 1.3km from the airport and a 5 minute taxi ride.  Alternatively, Les Ormes Resort offers more luxury accommodation, and is also only 1.3km from the airport.

Where to stay in Jersey without a car?

Liberty Bus is almost always on time, with an app to track where your bus is and what time you can arrive at your destination. If you stay in St Helier, you’re right by the main bus station and therefore connected to the rest of the island.  Alternatively, bike hire is available in the town and St Aubin and is a great way to explore the beautiful countryside and scenery in the fresh Channel Island air.

Getting to Jersey

Getting to Jersey from other Channel Islands, mainland UK and even France couldn’t be simpler. With a range of flights and ferries arriving on to the island every day, head to our travel section for more information.

Popular things to do

With so much on offer, you’ll have a list of things to do when you visit the island of Jersey. The island caters for those looking for adventure with options such as coasteering and surf schools and also offers spas and gorgeously quiet historical sites for those looking for a relaxing time to recharge the batteries and spend some time away from it all.  Check out our ‘things to do’ page for more details to help you plan your island break.

Make your way to The Wildwoods and bike the full length of its 38-block boardwalk. Or immerse yourself in mid-century pop culture at the Doo Wop Experience Museum (open Friday and Saturday evenings in spring). It’s a whole groovy vibe that carries over into many of Wildwood’s neon-lit motels .

Dream Bigger

Imagine an amusement park, water park, surfing spot, high ropes course, ski resort, ice skating rink, multiple mini golf courses, eclectic dining and luxury shopping all under one roof. Actually, you don’t have to use your imagination because this place really exists in New Jersey. Welcome to American Dream in East Rutherford!

Pack your bags (along with some empty ones for all of your new purchases!) for a truly dreamy getaway. To plot out your itinerary, start with American Dream Must-Dos . At the end of each whirlwind day, you’re going to be tired – luckily, you have options on where to lay your head and get some much-needed shuteye.

Live The Resort Life

With 365 things to do (literally something new for every day of the year!), you’ll never get bored at Crystal Springs Resort in Sussex County. Spend your days playing golf, touring farms, hitting the trails – even throwing axes and doing yoga with goats.

Many people (even celebrities!) have debated over its existence. But there is, in fact, a Central Jersey . And we’re proud to present it to you as a premier travel destination. It’s not only the geographic heart of the state – it’s also a crossroads of agritourism, history, arts and culture.

Must-see attractions include Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton Township, New Jersey State Museum and Old Barracks Museum in Trenton, McCarter Theatre Center for the Performing Arts in Princeton, State Theatre in New Brunswick, Duke Farms in Hillsborough, Hidden Spring Lavender & Alpaca Farm in Skillman and Ironbound Farm & Ciderhouse in Asbury – plus a complete roundup of breweries, wineries and distilleries where you can raise a glass to the Garden State’s adult beverages.

Spring Lavender Farm

We recommend reserving overnight accommodations in Princeton or Lambertville . Both are warm and welcoming explore-on-foot charmers, placing you at the center of it all.

Roll Along the Riverside

Wow your mini marine biologist, historian or artist with a trip to Camden , nestled on the East bank of the Delaware River. It’s where Adventure Aquarium makes a big splash. Several stops on one of our Black Heritage Itineraries have important stories to share. And Rutgers-Camden Center For The Arts delivers a stroke of creative genius.

Adventure Aquarium

Spend the night in your choice of accommodations nearby , then venture out to neighboring Downtown Collingswood the next day. This charming small town is a haven for shopping, dining and performing arts. Enjoy a little lunch before browsing the boutiques and catching a show at Scottish Rite Auditorium .

Beach travel: 4 boardwalks to check out

Locals and tourists walk along the mile-long boardwalk of City...

Long Island is known for its beaches and boardwalks, but if you’re looking for a change of pace — while still enjoying the seaside — here are four options to consider:

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk — Santa Cruz, California

Offering affordable family fun since 1907, this West Coast boardwalk features free entertainment as well as the chance to hop aboard 35 rides, including two that claim National Historic Landmark status. The Giant Dipper, a red-and-white wooden roller coaster built in 1924 and featured in several films, is a fan favorite. Don’t miss the Looff Carousel, open since 1911 and featuring one of the few remaining working ring tosses. Riders on outside horses can grab rings from a dispenser as they spin, then toss them into a large clown’s gaping mouth, resulting in bells and flashing lights.

New this year is the Dream Wheel, a 65-foot Ferris wheel, and Surge, billed as a unique spin on a classic thrill ride. Take a break from games, mini golf and laser tag to look toward the sea. You are likely to see dolphins, sea lions and otters swimming offshore.

Atlantic City Boardwalk — Atlantic City, New Jersey

Stroll along this historic promenade, considered the oldest and longest boardwalk in the country. Since the first wooden planks were placed in 1870, the walkway has served as the centerpiece of this resort city. Families can ride bikes, sample an endless menu of confections and wander through the arcade halls and museums.

During warm-weather months, family-friendly movies and musical entertainment are offered. Adjacent to the famed Boardwalk is Steel Pier, home to a flashy amusement park sure to appeal to kids of all ages.

From breaking news to special features and documentaries, the NewsdayTV team is covering the issues that matter to you.

By clicking Sign up, you agree to our privacy policy .

Myrtle Beach Boardwalk — Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

The 1.2-mile walkway, crafted from recycled plastic boards in nine colors, adds a unique vibrancy to the beach town and provides a hub for entertainment and activity. Expect plenty of dining options, shopping and music as well as views of the ocean and intermittent green spaces for picnics or play. Perhaps the best views can be found on the SkyWheel, an observation wheel with enclosed gondolas that rises 187 feet above the boardwalk.

Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk — Rehoboth, Delaware

Visit this family-friendly beach community for a relaxing seaside getaway. The mile-long boardwalk, built in 1873, has not lost its celebrated vintage vibe. After a day on the wide expanse of beach, sample local saltwater taffy, cruise the bike trails and make time for the kids to enjoy the amusement center where rides, shooting galleries, pinball machines and arcade games hearken back to an earlier era.

2024 NFL Draft - Portraits

Earlier this week, the Philadelphia Eagles finally confirmed new jersey numbers for their veteran offseason additions. And now they’ve revealed rookie jersey numbers for their picks from the 2024 NFL Draft and their undrafted rookie free agent signings.

Here’s an overview with our signature #JerseyNumberAnalytics to follow.

EAGLES DRAFT PICKS

CB Quinyon Mitchell - 30

DB Cooper DeJean - 33

EDGE Jalyx Hunt - 58

RB Will Shipley - 39

WR Ainias Smith - 82

LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. - 54

OG Trevor Keegan - 79

WR Johnny Wilson - 89

OL Dylan McMahon - 63

UNDRAFTED ROOKIE FREE AGENTS

OT Gottlieb Ayedze - 61

TE McCallen Castles - 43

OT Anim Dankwah - 75

DT Gabe Hall - 96

RB Kendall Milton - 36

S Andre’ Sam - 35

OT Laekin Vakalahi - 67

As the unquestioned authority on this subject matter, here are my incredibly important takes.

  • The Eagles’ own Twitter account essentially acknowledged some of these numbers are really bad and thus will change when the roster gets cut down to 53 players:
P.S. numbers are subject to change — Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) May 3, 2024
  • Don’t get used to seeing Mitchell in 30. Seems like he could easily make the switch to his college number, No. 27, if/when Zech McPhearson gets cut. If not No. 27, we could certainly see No. 24 become available if/when the Eagles move on from James Bradberry. Either option is an obvious upgrade for Mitchell and necessary for him to reach his full potential.
  • DeJean wore No. 3 at Iowa, so 33 makes sense. It’s passable as both a cornerback and safety number. DeJean wore No. 24 while playing basketball in high school, so maybe he’d try to make a play for that if it becomes available?
  • My first thought on Hunt getting No. 58? Positive development. Trent Cole made that look good. And kinda funny because he was known for being “The Hunter.” But then I thought about how I felt like Hunt is Howie Roseman’s new Genard Avery ... who also wore No. 58. So, I don’t know.
  • No. 39 is really bad for Shipley. Then again, it worked for fellow white pass-catching running back Danny Woodhead? Guessing Shipley will try to change his look down the road.
  • Smith wearing No. 82 could remind you of Torrey Smith. It could also remind you of L.J. Smith, though Ainias is certainly smaller than him. Don’t love it for a smaller slot guy. He should have a single digit or be in the teens. Could move to No. 13 if DeVante Parker doesn’t make the team. That’d be better.
  • The Axe Man Jr. getting The Axe Man Sr.’s jersey number is obviously great. No notes.
  • No. 79 is an underrated number with Brandon Brooks and Todd Herremans previously wearing that. Stock up for Keegan.
  • Aesthetically, No. 89 just does not look good. Conceptually, I like the biggest possible receiver (Wilson is 99 percentile height and 97 percentile weight) wearing the highest possible jersey number at his position.
  • If you’re of the belief that McMahon is going to be the Eagles’ next Jason Kelce, he’s only one number higher than Kelce’s old number.
  • The last Eagles offensive tackle to wear No. 75 in a game was Troy Drake in 1997. Been a bit. Solid look for Dankwah.
  • Don’t really love No. 96 as a DT number but that’s a pretty good get for Hall. Sometimes a UDFA DT has to wear something like No. 61. Ugly.
  • Milton is wearing Brian Westbrook’s old number but his running style is not reminiscent of the former Eagles great.
  • Laekin Vakalahi was previously unreported as an Eagles UDFA signing. All the other Eagles reported UDFA signings were accurate ... except for Marshall WR Talik Keaton. It appears Vakalahi — an Australian native — might be an International Player Pathway Program guy?

Generally, it's a good idea to go beyond state minimums and opt for full coverage , which can be a mix of liability, comprehensive, and collision car insurance to ensure you've covered your bases in a wide range of scenarios.

It also provides gap coverage, which can be helpful if you get into an accident with a vehicle you're currently financing. This covers any difference between your car's value and your loan balance in the event of a total loss. The exact limits and terms may vary based on the plan you buy. In fact, car crashes are the top cause of teen deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) .

Experts recommend adding any licensed driver in your home as soon as you know they'll drive your car regularly. State Farm has excellent options for teen drivers. It offers a Good Student Discount of up to 25%. Also, you could get another discount if your teen driver is under 21 and takes a qualifying driver's ed course. There's also a unique option to save if your teen driver has a car at home but moved away for school through the Student Away at School Discount.

The Steer Clear discount offers young drivers below 25 up to a 15% discount with no at-fault accidents or moving violations in the previous three years. In addition, if you're willing to use State Farm's Drive Safe & Save app, you may qualify for up to a 30% discount.

Teachers also enjoy up to $2,500 in personal property coverage if teaching items or school-owned items are damaged or stolen. In addition, Liberty Mutual automatically applies a $0 deductible when qualifying cars are vandalized on school property or when driving on school-specific business.

Through Liberty Insurance, you can get typical collision or comprehensive coverage. It also offers optional coverages like original parts replacement coverage, gap coverage, 24-hour roadside assistance coverage, rental car reimbursement coverage, and more.

Best for accident forgiveness: Progressive

Progressive Progressive Auto Insurance

Offers personalized rate based on driving

  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Coverage available in all 50 states
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Discounts for bundling insurance products with competitive rates
  • Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Highly rated with JD Power and AM Best
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Rates may jump significantly after your first accident or for higher risk drivers
  • con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Mixed reviews on claims and customer service on sites like Consumer Affairs and TrustPilot

A highly ranked and long-standing insurance company, Progressive offers auto, home, motorcycle, and other insurance across the United States.

  • Ranked #17 out of 18 in auto claims satisfaction
  • Bundling, vehicle safety, and student driver discounts
  • Name your price tool

Accidents happen, and the best car insurance companies can help. But rates inevitably rise after even a minor accident. Progressive notably offers accident forgiveness to qualifying drivers. Its three types of accident forgiveness coverage include the following:

  • Small Accident Forgiveness. This option is available to new Progressive customers in most states through the Loyalty Rewards program and won't increase your premiums if your claim is at or below $500. This said, it's worth noting that when deciding whether to file a claim, you should always consider your deductible and how much your insurance will pay.
  • Large Accident Forgiveness. Customers in most states may qualify for this option through the Loyalty Rewards program. Drivers eligible for Large Accident Forgiveness won't see increased rates even if claims exceed $500. You must be a Progressive customer for five consecutive years with no accident or moving violations within that time frame.
  • Progressive Accident Forgiveness. You may qualify to have one accident forgiven in a specific period, but you can buy additional accident forgiveness through this program. In a sense, you are prepaying to keep your rates consistent if you're involved in an accident. Check if your state qualifies, as it's not available everywhere.

You can obtain liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage through Progressive. Interestingly, Progressive specifies if your pet is injured and you have collision coverage, your policy will cover some vet expenses.

It also offers gap coverage, rental car reimbursement coverage, custom parts and equipment value, rideshare coverage, and roadside assistance. Progressive also has a Name Your Price option that allows you to state your desired price, and the website will show what's available. You can also use their mobile app or contact Progressive agents for support.

Best Car Insurance Frequently Asked Questions

State Farm is highly ranked in many JD Power surveys and maintains the highest market share of any auto insurance company in the United States. The company is known for exclusive insurance quoted only by State Farm agents. However, it is outperformed in some areas by smaller regional carriers. Some insurers are even limited to just one state, like 21st Century auto insurance , which only serves California.

JD Power's latest auto claims satisfaction study shows Amica Mutual earned the top spot. In JD Power's auto insurance study, regions were won primarily by smaller local carriers like Wawanesa in California and Erie Insurance in the mid-Atlantic. The best car insurance company may also vary based on the coverage you want.

The average cost of car insurance will vary depending on your location and other factors. Many auto insurance companies offer discounts for safe driving, especially if you're willing to install an app to track certain driving behaviors. Paying your premium in full instead of month-by-month also reduces rates. One of the best ways to reduce costs is by getting multiple quotes to compare quotes.

The easiest way to compare quotes is by working with a licensed independent insurance agent. They can run quotes, compare prices and coverage so you know you're getting the best value. Some customers also prefer to go online. Companies like GEICO, Progressive, and Lemonade offer online-only quotes to give consumers back control.

For car insurance market share, State Farm's biggest competitor is GEICO. According to data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), State Farm has 16.84% of the U.S. auto insurance market share, the highest of any insurer. Next up on the list is GEICO, with 14.05% market share. Both insurers are available throughout the U.S.

Why You Should Trust Us: How We Chose the Best Car Insurance Companies

To determine the best auto insurance companies, we compare numerous factors included in our insurance rating methodology . These include affordability, customer satisfaction, coverage options, optional coverage, benefits for policyholders, financial strength, and accessibility. No single factor accounts for everything consumers need; not all auto insurance companies are created the same.

We compared quotes, customer reviews, financial stability, and the company's history. With all these factors combined, we rate numerous competitors to see which companies rise to the top.

Auto insurance, in particular, is primarily run on a state and regional basis. In short, most auto insurance providers are only licensed in some states. As such, the best car insurance companies for a driver in New York may differ from the best option for similar drivers in California.

We use numerous sources to get an objective view of each provider. Our reviews are not sponsored by the companies being reviewed. Each review reflects our opinion based solely on the facts gathered. Reviews may be updated as facts change (for example, JD Power rankings are updated when new reports are released). However, requests from insurers that conflict with public-facing websites are not factored into our reviews.

  • Katherine Rodriguez | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

The U.S. State Department has reissued a Level 2 travel advisory for Germany due to fears of terrorism.

The State Department issued the advisory on Wednesday, ranking the travel advisory on a scale of two out of four. This means that those traveling to an area must “exercise increased caution.”

“Terrorists may attack with little or no warning,” the State Department noted.

The agency added that terrorists could target tourism and transportation hubs, as well as shopping destinations, hotels, clubs, restaurants, local government facilities and major events.

The State Department noted on its website that for those who do decide to travel to Germany, travelers should pay attention to their surroundings , follow the instructions of local authorities, be aware of the latest breaking news in the area and adjust your plans, if necessary. The organization also urges travelers to Germany to create a contingency plan for emergency situations as well as sign up for the  Smart Traveler Enrollment Program  ( STEP ) to receive alerts and make it easier for the State Department to locate you in case of an emergency.

The U.S. Department of State has issued several travel warnings this year with those most recently centered around the Caribbean.

One was a Level 4 “do not travel” warning against traveling to the country of Haiti due to kidnappings and gang violence.

Another warning from the State Department cautioned travelers to “reconsider travel” to the country of Jamaica after 65 people were murdered in one month.
