The updated Tata Safari was launched in India on 17 October, 2023.

Feature list:

In terms of exterior design and styling, Tata Motors has changed the look of the SUV in a significant manner. It gets a redesigned front bumper that now houses a pair of LED headlamps, new front grille that separates it from the Harrier, sequential turn indicators, and an elongated LED DRL. At the rear, it gets LED taillamps connected with an LED bar that stretches across the tailgate. Depending on the variant you choose, the Safari comes with alloy wheels ranging between 17-19 inches and these are very similar to the ones found on the Harrier EV concept.

Inside, the updated Safari gets a dual-tone cabin based on its exterior shade along with a new four-spoke illuminated steering wheel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. Apart from this, it also receives a new digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, and a touch-based climate control panel.

Engine, performance, and specifications:

The facelifted Safari makes use of the 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that produces 168bhp/350Nm. The transmission duties are handled by a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter automatic.

The updated Tata Safari can be broadly had in four variants, namely Smart, Pure, Adventure, and Fearless.

Engine and Performance

The 2023 avatar of the Tata Safari retains the same 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic unit. This motor meets BS6 Phase 2 emissions standards and produces 168bhp and 350Nm of peak torque. The automatic transmission still works very well, with the shifts that remain quick, smooth, and in sync with the engine’s characteristics and power delivery. There is enough torque for pulling from low speeds, and the transmission's responsiveness to both upshifts and downshifts makes the driving experience enjoyable. It also gets paddle shifters, and they respond well, making the driving experience more engaging.

The Eco, City, and Sport driving modes remain unchanged, offering responsive throttle inputs. The Safari has sufficient load-carrying and people-hauling capabilities in both urban and highway settings, and it can overtake effortlessly despite its size and weight. This Tata SUV remains planted and stable at triple-digit speeds, and its performance is not compromised despite being larger and heavier than the Harrier. The terrain mode selector, which efficiently alters the response through software maps, has been retained too. However, some off-road enthusiasts may argue that all-wheel drive (AWD) would have made the SUV more capable in hilly regions and slippery conditions. Nonetheless, our experience suggests that the Safari can tackle trails and rough terrain with poise for the most part.

Ride and Handling

The Safari's high ground clearance, tall stance, and well-tuned suspension allow it to effortlessly absorb bumps, potholes, and ruts on broken roads. Occupants are not unsettled, and there is minimal noise inside the cabin — whether driving at low or high speeds. Its robust build quality and Land Rover underpinnings are evident in its ride and handling.

Previous Safari owners complained about the heavy hydraulic steering, but the new electronic power steering has addressed this issue. It feels lighter at low speeds but adds weight as the speed increases, as is also noticeable in the Sport mode. The ADAS, meanwhile, is not intrusive and gently guides the car back into the marked lane if it starts to veer off. Then, all the disc brakes provide good stopping power and work well with the emergency automatic braking system. Overall, both systems functioned flawlessly, with the adaptive cruise control responding to commands instantly.

Exterior Design

Despite being a facelift, the new model has been significantly redesigned, giving it a concept-like appearance and a more upmarket feel than its predecessor. The new single grille is unique, with accents that match the exterior body colour on this version. The connected LED bar is a welcome addition, and the new squared-off headlamp housings on the re-sculpted bumper further distinguish it from the previous model.

Moreover, the new 19-inch wheels have an attractive design similar to the Sierra concept's wheels showcased at this year's Auto Expo. The rear section has been updated with tweaked taillights and a new LED bar that gets the welcome and goodbye animation in line with the front. There's also a faux skid plate on the redesigned bumper with vertically stacked reflectors and reverse light housing.

Interior and Features

The interior has also been updated, but the overall design remains largely unchanged. The most noticeable change is the new steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, which was first seen on the new Nexon. Tata has also addressed our previous criticism of this new steering’s horn placement, which was awkward and difficult to use. The horn has now been repositioned and is more responsive to inputs.

The new Safari also features touch controls for the AC. Other major updates to the dashboard include a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a fully digital instrument cluster. The latter gets readable fonts, fast response time, and high customisability, and is packed with information, including ADAS. The touchscreen is also highly responsive and has a clean UI, but it lacks haptic feedback and knobs for quick control.

The seating layout remains unchanged, with ample space in all rows. However, a major improvement that elevates its interior's premium feel is the high-quality materials used for the upholstery, dashboard, and most surfaces. Nothing feels cheap or out of place, and the cabin remains robust. The Safari has been known for its 'boss mode', and it continues to offer a laid-back seating position with power adjustments. The seats also get adjustable headrests for enhanced comfort. To further delight passengers, ventilated seats are now available in both rows, which will be a blessing in our hot and humid climate.

The carmaker has also taken the safety aspect up a notch. For example, all variants/personas now come standard with six airbags, while the top-spec version gets an additional driver's knee airbag. In addition, the Safari gets a 360-degree camera and a host of ADAS features, including new ones like adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, high beam assist, lane change alert, and lane departure warning. Other ADAS features include door open alert, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alert. Additionally, other important safety features include rear collision warning, forward collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking, which worked effectively. The SUV also gets disc brakes on all four wheels.

The new Safari is also equipped with a new e-call feature for emergency assistance. With a touch of a button, the breakdown call can notify the roadside assistance service. Other impressive tech features that worked flawlessly include the new TFT cluster, terrain mode selector with TFT screen, audio controls compatible with Alexa, powered tailgate opening, and the connected car experience. Finally, whether you choose the six- or seven-seater version, every variant, from the entry-level Smart to the top-spec Accomplished+, offers a good variety of exterior colour options and material choices.

Tata Motors wants to broaden the appeal of the new Safari with a wider range of exterior colours, including a segment-first dual-tone option, and a plethora of new features. The Safari retains its macho appearance, making it a symbol of authority while offering a premium and spacious cabin. Prospective buyers also get new technology and added connectivity, all while cocooned in safety. Tata Motors also has kept the premium reasonable, making the new Safari an easy choice for buyers, given its many appealing features.

Tata Safari is a highly popular SUV having a long standing history in the Indian automobile industry. Originally introduced in 1998, the vehicle is currently into its Second Generation having spawned a number of facelifts. It is based on the OMEGARC (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture) platform. 

Tata Safari: Exterior

Safari’s exterior provides a bold and muscular design. Up front it offers a sculpted hood, chrome-finished grille, sleek projector headlamps, LED DRLs and a skid plate. 

On the sides we get to see roof rails, strong shoulderline, flared wheel arches, black plastic cladding and 18-inch alloy wheels. 

Towards the rear it gets a shark fin antenna, roof mounted spoiler, LED tail lights, dual tone (body coloured and black plastic finish) bumper and a skid plate.  

Tata Safari: Interior & Features

Interior: Safari's interior is well laid out and spacious. The cabin provides a modern dashboard with three rows of seating. There is the option of captain seats in the second row. To add on, there is leatherette upholstery which provides a premium feel. 

Features: New Safari gets features like a 10-inch touchscreen JBL infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Further there is a panoramic sunroof, Fully Automatic Climate Control (FATC) with HVAC, multiple charging ports, iRA- Connected Car Technology and more

Safety: Safari offers ADAS Tech like autonomous emergency brake, front and rear collision warning, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane change alert, traffic sign recognition among others. It also gets safety features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program (ESC), Corner Stability Control (CSC), hill hold control and more.

Maruti Suzuki applies for Bharat-NCAP safety ratings for some vehicles

Maruti Suzuki has applied for Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat-NCAP) safety ratings for select vehicles, following Tata Motors' SUVs Safari and Harrier, which received 5-star ratings last year. Sunroof Surge: India's buyers drive demand, prompting carmakers to elevate the roof game

Once considered a luxury feature, currently more than one out of every four cars sold in the local market is equipped with a sunroof, up from just about 7% five years ago. In models where the feature is available, sales are even higher at 55%. Tata Motors has recently launched an updated version of Safari , along with its five-seater sibling, the Harrier . The 2023 Tata Safari facelift has received a cosmetic overhaul and features more advanced technology than its predecessor. We had previously reported the prices of the initial manual variants of the facelifted model, which start at Rs. 16.19 lakhs and go up to Rs. 25.49 lakhs. The automaker did not initially reveal the wide-ranging prices for its automatic and Dark edition variants at its launch. However, we now have the full variant-wise prices for the Safari facelift.

Moreover, the 2023 Safari facelift is available in six- and seven-seater configurations across ten variants: Smart (O), Pure (O), Adventure, Adventure+, Adventure+ Dark, Accomplished, Accomplished Dark, Accomplished+ Dark, Adventure+ A, and Accomplished+.

The following are the prices of the Automatic variants of the 2023 Tata Safari 

Tata is offering the automatic transmission option for its flagship SUV starting from the Pure+ variant which is priced at Rs 20.69 lakh and goes up to the Accomplished+ trim at Rs 26.89 lakh.

On the other hand, the Manual Transmission option starts from the base Smart variant at Rs 16.19 lakh and goes up to the Accomplished+ Variant, priced at Rs 25.59 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The facelifted Safari has several first-in-segment features and a refreshed exterior and interior design, commanding a premium over its predecessor.

Tata Safari Dark Variants 

As for the Dark edition of the Safari, it is offered from the Pure+ variant and goes up to the range-topping Accomplished+ Dark variant priced at Rs 22.09 lakh and Rs 27.34 lakh, respectively (all prices ex-showroom). The Dark variant features an Oberon Black colour shade on the exterior and a Blackstone theme on the inside. Moreover, it gets 19-inch Blackstone Alloys with Aero inserts and Dark Badging. These additions set apart the dark models from their standard counterparts.

Both the Tata Safari and the Harrier will eventually be equipped with a lane departure assist feature. Thanks to the electric power steering used in these two SUVs, Tata Motors will add this feature to the radar-based ADAS suite. Unfortunately, the initial batch of facelifted models is not equipped with this feature, but it will be available in upcoming units. For those who have already booked the SUVs, Tata Motors will provide an over-the-air (OTA) update to add this feature.

Both SUVs from Tata have recently achieved the highest-ever score for any made-in-India car in the Global NCAP crash tests, indicating their exceptional safety standards. These SUVs come equipped with a range of safety features such as six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, TPMS, hill start assist and rollover mitigation that are included as standard.

Tata Curvv spotted yet again, will feature blind spot monitoring. Check details

• Tata Motors is preparing to launch the Tata Curvv, a compact SUV, into the competitive Indian market. The vehicle has been recently spotted testing on Indian roads and will feature advanced technology such as blind-spot assist and a full ADAS suite.

Tata Motors is gearing up to enter the competitive compact SUV market with its upcoming model, the Tata Curvv. The SUV coupe has been undergoing testing for some time now and was showcased in near-production form at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in February 2024.

A recent spy shot of the Tata Curvv being tested on Indian roads has surfaced online. A video on social media reveals that the SUV will feature blind-spot assist, similar to the Tata Harrier and Safari , likely working alongside a full ADAS suite.

Recently, a test mule for the Tata Curvv EV was spotted near Coimbatore while it was on a test. The Curvv EV will sit above the Nexon EV in Tata Motors' lineup and will also be sold through the new EV-only dealerships that Tata Motors has opened recently.

The design of the Curvv EV is pretty familiar from the front as it looks similar to the Nexon facelift. However, it is the side profile and the rear where there are some significant changes. From the side, there is a new coupe-like profile so the rear portion slopes down quite a bit whereas at the rear, there is a new set of LED tail lamps.

The interior of the Curvv, as seen in recent spy images, will include a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, an all-digital instrument cluster, a twin-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, touch-based HVAC controls, auto-dimming IRVM, and purple accents on the dashboard, akin to the Nexon.

The vehicle will measure 4,308 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a boot space of 422 litres and a wheelbase of 2,560 mm.

Tata has confirmed that the electric version of the Curvv will debut first, followed by the ICE iteration. The latter will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, paired with manual and automatic gearboxes. The Tata Curvv will compete against rivals such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Citroen Basalt, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and MG Astor.

Tata Altroz discounts April 2024

Benefits on the Tata Altroz go up to Rs 35,000 this month for the petrol MT and diesel variants. The CNG as well as petrol DCA variants are being offered with discounts of up to Rs 20,000. The Altroz is currently available with a 1.2-litre petrol, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel powertrains. The company will soon introduce a more powerful iteration of the hatch called the  Altroz Racer , which gets the same 120hp, 170Nm, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as the Nexon.

The MY2024  Tata Nexon is currently being offered with no cash discounts, however, it's entitled to Rs 15,000 exchange/scrappage benefits. Pricing for the Venue , Sonet   rival starts from Rs 8.15 lakh, going up to Rs 15.80 lakh. Tata Stock Jumps After Global Brokerage Hikes Target Price

Tata Steel’s share price extended gains to the third straight day on Wednesday going up over 1.5% to hit an intraday high of ₹169.20 — a smidge below its all-time high of ₹169.80.

What Happened: Shares of the Tata Group company were upbeat as global research firm Jefferies maintained its positive outlook. The analysts at Jefferies maintained their “buy” rating for the steel giant raising the price target to ₹200 from ₹165. The revised target indicates an around 20% upside from the stock’s last closing price of ₹166.

The views were shared in the research firm’s latest note on the metals and mining sector. As per the analysts, the outlook for the sector is positive due to the rise in manufacturing activities reported by both China and the US. As major consumers of metal, an increase in manufacturing activity in these countries indicates a heightened demand for metal products.

Apart from Tata Steel, Jefferies also has a “buy” rating on Hindalco with a price target of ₹700. Coal India also has been assigned a “buy” rating with a price target of ₹520. The positive commentary has driven the Nifty realty index up over 1%.

Price Action: Tata Steel’s share price was up 1.11% to trade at ₹167.85 in early trade on Wednesday.
