Was in einer Dorfscheune begann, ist längst Kult geworden. Den Geschwistern Jonas und Sören gelang es, ein ganz besonderes Lastenrad unter das Volk zu bringen. Die Produktion erfolgt im Kölner Stadtteil Ehrenfeld, lokal, fair und nachhaltig. Das kompakte Lastenfahrrad ist clever durch und durch. Dieser E-Bike-Hersteller stammt aus Dänemark und ist als Produzent der Lastenfahrräder Bullitt weltweit bekannt. Winora E-Bikes

Der deutsche Fahrradhersteller Winora-Staiger existiert bereits seit 1914 und wurde von Radsportler Engelbert Wiener gegründet. 1918 entstand die erste Fahrradgroßhandlung in Schweinfurt. In den 1950-er Jahren wurden jährlich etwa 6.000 Fahrräder hergestellt. Dies geschah damals noch in Einzelmontage. 1963 rollten die ersten Winora-Räder vom Fließband. Husqvarna E-Bike

Husqvarna zählt zu den traditionsreichsten Unternehmen in unserer Aufzählung. Die Geschichte der Firma begann mit der Herstellung von Musketen. Damals schrieb man das Jahr 1689. Der Gewehrlauf der Musketen ist noch heute im Firmenlogo zu finden. Später wurden Nähmaschinen und andere Haushaltsgeräte aus Gusseisen hergestellt. Das erste Fahrrad produzierte Husqvarna im Jahre 1896. Wenige Jahre später kamen Motorräder dazu. Dabei wurde ein Fahrrad mit einem Verbrennungsmotor kombiniert. Die Schweden erwiesen sich als wahre Tüftler und sind heute mit technologisch ausgereiften E-Bikes Marktführer. Robuste Touren-E-Bikes, leistungsstarke E-Enduros oder komfortable City-Bikes werden in mehr als 40 Ländern der Erde geschätzt.

JEEP E-Bike

Als die Firma American Bantam im Jahre 1938 der US-Army den BRC präsentierte, waren die finanziellen Mittel für die Nutzung des leichten Aufklärungsfahrzeuges nicht vorhanden. Dies änderte sich mit Beginn des Zweiten Weltkrieges, als der Prototyp des Bantam auf Anhieb überzeugen konnte. JEEP und E-Bike muss kein Widerspruch sein. Die Räder werden jedoch von einem deutschen Unternehmen aus Offenburg hergestellt, welches die Bezeichnung „JEEP“ nutzen darf. Bergamont E-Bike

Bergamont ist ein E-Bike-Hersteller aus Hamburg. Die Firmengründer erobern seit einigen Jahren vom Heimathafen St. Pauli den Markt. Der E-Bike-Hersteller setzt auf Bikes mit smartem IoT-System und innovativen Steuerungsalgorithmen. Urtopia steht für E-Bikes, die sich stetig weiterentwickeln. Das junge Berliner Unternehmen stellt Bikes her, deren Rahmen, Lenker, Gabeln und Sattelstützen zu 100 Prozent aus Kohlefaser bestehen. Damit bringen Urtopia-Bikes weniger als 15 Kilogramm auf die Waage. Eine konstante 4G-Verbindung sorgt dafür, dass ein Bike von Urtopia bis zu 30 Tage nach einem möglichen Diebstahl geortet werden kann. ENGWE E-Bike

Bei der Firma ENGWE dreht sich alles um das E-Fatbike. Die Räder besitzen extra breite Reifen und bieten dir bei jeder Witterung und auf jedem Untergrund viel Grip und Sicherheit. Ein leistungsstarker Elektromotor sorgt für viel Power. Der Akku ist herausnehmbar. Ein Fatbike von ENGWE besitzt für deutsche Straßen keine Zulassung. Die Gründe liegen im starken 750-Watt-Motor und in der ungedrosselten Geschwindigkeit von über 25 Stundenkilometern. Da ENGWE über ein Warenlager in Polen verfügt, fallen für dich beim Kauf keine Zollgebühren an.

Zündapp E-Bike

Zwischen 1921 und 1984 schrieb Zündapp Geschichte als einer der führenden Hersteller von Motorrädern in Deutschland. Gegründet wurde die Zünder-Apparatebau GmbH bereits im Jahre 1917. Bis zu 1.800 Mitarbeiter fertigten damals vornehmlich Zünder und andere Güter für die Rüstungsindustrie. Später wurden die gemeinhin als „grüne Elefanten“ betitelten leichten Motorräder hergestellt. 1984 wurde das bayerische Unternehmen nach China veräußert. Das klassische Emblem von Zündapp tauchte 2014 wieder auf. Der Hersteller Mifa vermarktete preisgünstige Fahrräder und Zubehör. Seit 2017 sind E-Bikes von Zündapp auf dem Markt. Zündapp lässt in China produzieren und bedient mit einem umfangreichen Sortiment eine breite Klientel.

Saxonette E-Bikes

Die Marke Saxonette wird von SFM Bikes vertrieben. Das Unternehmen ging aus den traditionsreichen Fichtel und Sachs-Werken hervor. Dort wurde von 1938 bis 1940 die erste Modellreihe eines Fahrrades mit einem Zweitakt-Einbaumotor produziert. SFM Bikes ist weltweit beim Vertrieb von E-Bikes, Motorrädern und Rollern gut aufgestellt. Das ELO-Bike setzte Anfang der 1990-er Jahre als erstes Pedelec auf dem deutschen Markt Maßstäbe. Damals war der Sanyo-Motor noch im Hinterrad verbaut. Die Nürnberger Zentrale ist für Entwicklung und Vertrieb zuständig. Die Produktion der Saxonette E-Bikes wurde nach China ausgelagert.

Vivi E-Bikes

Vivi ist ein breit aufgestellter Anbieter von Geräten für den In- und Outdoor-Bereich. Neben E-Bikes kann der Hersteller auch mit Skateboards und Elektro-Scootern deinem Drang nach Bewegung und Action nachkommen. Bei Vivi bekommst du ausreichend Fahrspaß für den kleinen Geldbeutel. Das Unternehmen aus dem Raum Los Angeles hat bis vor wenigen Jahren ausschließlich Fitnessprodukte vertrieben und sich dabei eines ausgedehnten Händler-Netzwerkes bedient. Heute sind die in China produzierten Vivi E-Bikes der Renner und ideal für Einsteiger geeignet. Du zahlst für dein E-Bike weniger als 700 Euro. Optisch lassen die Modelle an Mountainbikes denken. Vivi-Bikes verfügen über einen gefederten Rahmen und mechanischen Scheibenbremsen. Du bleibst damit etwa 40 Kilometer mobil.

Himiway E-Bikes

Die Gründer von Himiway verfolgen die Mission, den Lebensstil zu revolutionieren und für saubere Energie und zuverlässige Qualität zu sorgen. Der Fokus liegt auf der Forschung, der Herstellung und dem Vertrieb von Pedelecs. Hinter der Marke stehen Fans des Outdoor-Sports, die einen gesunden und umweltgerechten Lebensstil teilen und nach außen tragen möchten. Die Bikes werden in Deutschland entwickelt und in China gefertigt. Jedes Rad durchläuft strenge Qualitätskontrollen. Himiway verkauft pro Jahr über 10.000 E-Bikes und hat sich besonders in den USA eine wachsende Fangemeinde aufgebaut. Der Himiway Cruiser soll als amerikanisches Urgestein gelten und die Erinnerung an Ernest Hemingway wecken. Die robusten und geländegängigen Räder sind für die Langstrecke optimiert und mit einem Samsung-Akku versehen.

NCM E-Bikes

NCM ist eine Eigenmarke der im Jahre 2014 gegründeten Leon Cycle GmbH. Diese wickelt weiterhin die Produktion und den Vertrieb der Marken Foo und ET. CYCLE ab. Die Standorte in Hannover und München schaffen Kundennähe. Die Akkus der Bikes können mit einer Reichweite von bis zu 150 Kilometern punkten. Die Motoren bringen es auf eine Nennleistung von maximal 250 Watt. Von der Konkurrenz abheben möchte sich der E-Bike-Hersteller durch Motoren, die ein hohes Drehmoment aufweisen und damit im Stadtverkehr wie auf dem Land Flexibilität beweisen. Das Einkabel-Steuerungssystem erlaubt die einfache Wartung. Jährlich werden etwa 17.500 NCM E-Bikes verkauft.

Hercules E-Bikes

Und wieder eine Marke mit Historie. Carl Marschütz verfolgte die Vision, ein Fahrrad für alle zu entwickeln und gründete im Jahre 1896 mit der Velocipedfabrik Marschütz & Co. in Nürnberg die zweitälteste deutsche Fahrradfabrik. Heute ist Hercules im Oldenburger Münsterland beheimatet und wird von einem jungen, kreativen Team betreut. Im Jahre 1985 wurde das erste E-Bike von Hercules herausgebracht. Am Firmenstandort wird nichts dem Zufall überlassen. Die Bikes können auf der hauseigenen Teststrecke erprobt werden. In Anlehnung an den Firmengründer, der für seine robusten und langlebigen Fahrräder bekannt war, wurde die Marke Hercules Programm. Die Produktion der Bikes wird seit etwa zwanzig Jahren in Ungarn und Asien abgewickelt.

Telefunken E-Bike

Die Firma Telefunken ist weltbekannt. Das Unternehmen wurde 1903 von AEG und Siemens & Halske gegründet. Telefunken war Halter von mehr als 20.000 Patenten, entwickelte Radartechnik und gilt als Pionier des Farb-TV. Mit Fahrrädern hatte Telefunken in der Vergangenheit dagegen wenig zu tun. Dies änderte sich, als die Telefunken Licenses GmbH die Rechte am Unternehmen übernahm und fleißig Lizenzen für Waschmaschinen, Radiowecker, Smartphones und E-Bikes erteilte. Das erste Telefunken E-Bike wurde auf der Internationalen Funkausstellung im Jahre 2017 vorgestellt. Die Karcher AG ist im Besitz der Lizenz und fokussiert sich auf den Online-Handel. Das Angebot ist auf über 25 Modelle angewachsen. Die Räder zeichnen sich durch eine einfache Handhabung und gefederte Sattelstützen aus.

BMC E-Bikes

BMC ist ein Schweizer Unternehmen, welches 1986 gegründet wurde. Im Gründungsjahr wurden zunächst RALEIGH-Bikes in Lizenz hergestellt. Die Marke BMC wurde 1994 ins Leben gerufen. Die eigene Forschungs- und Entwicklungsabteilung ermöglicht die gezielte Weiterentwicklung und Optimierung der Produktpalette. Die Bikes konnten im Jahre 2005 als Etappensieger bei der Tour de France von sich reden machen. Besonders die E-Fullys der Premiumklasse haben auch international für Aufsehen gesorgt. Unmittelbar am Hauptsitz der Firma ist in den vergangenen Jahren ein Olympisches Velodrom entstanden. Das Team von BMC unterstützt eine große Zahl an Sportlern, die bereits zahlreiche Rennen und Titel gewinnen konnten.

Carver E-Bikes

Mit Carver hat Fahrrad XXL eine solide Eigenmarke am Start. Am Frankfurter Firmensitz laufen hochwertige Räder vom Band. Carver-Bikes sind leicht und langlebig. Der Hersteller gibt auf den Rahmen der E-Bikes eine Garantie von zehn Jahren. Das Unternehmen befindet sich bis heute in Händen der Unternehmensfamilie Feld. Zur Anwendung kommen modernste Produktionsverfahren. Diamant E-Bike

Produziert wird weiterhin am ursprünglichen Standort in Sachsen. Eine Besonderheit der Diamant E-Bikes ist der jährliche Wechsel der am Steuerrohr angebrachten Plakette.

FLYER E-Bikes

Das Schweizer Unternehmen FLYER stellt seit 1995 Elektrofahrräder her. Die jahrelange Erfahrung gibt den Schweizern recht und ermöglicht die Umsetzung innovativer Neuerungen. Die Traditionsmarke ist in den Bereichen Trekking, MTB, City-Bike oder Faltrad breit aufgestellt. Täglich können bis zu 480 FLYER E-Bikes den Produktionsstandort verlassen. FLYER zählt im heimischen Huttwil zu den größten Arbeitgebern. Ein Aushängeschild der FLYER-Bikes ist der lautlose Antrieb.

Focus E-Bike

Hinter der Firma Focus steht kein Geringerer als Mike Kluge, erster Mountainbike-Weltmeister Deutschlands. Die Produktion des 1992 gegründeten Unternehmens ist auf schnelle und qualitativ hochwertige Sporträder ausgerichtet. Die Bikes werden in Kooperation mit Profisportlern entwickelt. Neben Mountainbikes bietet Focus auch Rennräder und Allround-Räder an.

Giant E-Bike

Die Marke Giant steht für den größten Fahrrad-Produzenten in Taiwan. Das Unternehmen wurde im Jahre 1972 in Dajia gegründet. Der E-Bike-Hersteller unterhält Produktionsstandorte in Taiwan, China und den Niederlanden. Die Firma ist auf Entwicklung, Fertigung und Design spezialisiert und auch als Erstausrüster anderer Marken aktiv. Bereits 2002 wurden jährlich vier Millionen Bikes produziert. Giant zählt zu den Vorreitern der Verwendung von leichten Rahmen aus Kohlenstofffasern. 1996 kam ein komplett aus Carbon bestehender Rahmen auf den Markt. Alle Rahmen entstehen dabei in Eigenfertigung. Das Programm umfasst City-E-Bikes, Trekking-E-Bikes, Mountainbikes und E-Rennräder. Dabei zählt Giant zu den Pionieren.

Ein Team aus Experten der Branche steht heute hinter der Traditionsmarke und handwerkliche Sorgfalt, wie die Liebe zum Detail prägt die Herstellung der Bikes. Der Kundenkreis kann sich sehen lassen, einst zählte Konrad Adenauer dazu. Heute vertraut Fußballer Bastian Schweinsteiger auf Kettler-Bikes.

What You Need to Know About Step-Through Electric Bikes

What is a step-through bike.

Step-through bicycles either have no top tube and just a downtube as pictured below, or they have a top tube that slopes downward making a V shape with the seat tube. This type of bike is sometimes referred to as a low-step bike. This design makes it easier to get on and off the bike. 

In contrast, a step-over bike is the most common frame design. This type of bike has a top tube that runs parallel to the ground or with a less extreme downward angle. This requires more flexibility to get the leg up and over the top tube.

Who Should Get a Step-through Ebike?

In short, everyone can enjoy riding a step-through e-bike. However, some categories of riders that would benefit the most from this design include:

• People with leg/back/knee injuries
• People with low flexibility
• Riders with limited mobility

Step-through electric bikes for seniors and those with injuries or low flexibility are a great way to be able to continue riding when regular bikes become too uncomfortable or difficult to use.

Equally, any person who enjoys a comfortable, relaxed riding position or the assistance of a motor for tough rides will love the advantages that step-through e-bikes offer.

Are step-through bikes unisex?

Yes, step-through bikes are Unisex.

Some people might be confused as step-through frames have traditionally been called women’s bikes as they were convenient for ladies who wore dresses while riding their bikes.

What is a mixte bike?

I find the weight of these bikes unmanageable for a disabled senior. Are there step through bikes that weigh less? Thank you.

I’m looking at Orbea after doing a search for lightweight low step ebikes. There are, but they cost.

My Pedego battery is on the back rack and my engine is at the back hub which and it makes it very unbalanced when I get off the bike . My sister’s battery is integrated into the frame and it is much easier to get off and not have trouble balancing the bike/keeping it from falling.

Test drive a bike with a mid engine and the battery in the frame. I think they all are heavy, but having the weight centered and low makes it much more manageable. If you are talking sheet weight, not how it is distributed, take a look at the Dutch mike by LeMond or the Norco VLT, they weigh a lot less than my Pedego City Commuter. I think LeMonds is made of Carbon Fiber which is very light.

Why did you not list the Pedego boomerang on your step through list? I just researched many bikes and ended up buying the Pedego boomerang because it is the lowest step through that I have ever seen. Just wondering why you are not reviewing and listing this bike

I currently have a Ecotric electric seagull bike.

I really like it but the step over bar is getting to be too much for me.

I need a simple step through bike. I usually ride 15-20 miles at a time mostly city cycling.

NCM e-Bikes Review: Are These Bikes Any Good?

German-based e-bikes company, NCM, is connected to other brands such as Australia-based, Leon Cycle, and Leisger. NCM represents the pedelec arm of the said conglomeration. Established in 2014, its main headquarters are located in Hanover, where it still does most of the designing. It does the manufacturing in France, Vietnam, and China.

The brand doesn’t explicitly state what its name or abbreviation stands for. Since its history is intimately tied to its parent brand, Leon Cycle, you don’t need to look further than the latter’s history to know more about NCM. It started out mainly as an online retail shop specializing in e-bikes and after less than a decade, it has already expanded to Spain, Australia, the UK, and the USA. 

NCM e-Bikes Review: Model Lines

Ncm: veritable deliverers of quality, reliability, and durability at affordable prices.

The brand proclaims that it delivers all three of the said factors and, more or less, it manages to do so considering some of the gems in its catalog. NCM has a fairly balanced and varied collection of e-bikes. 

It has different offerings for eMTB, commuter, folding, fat, and cruiser lovers alike. Their relatively budget-friendly e-bikes lean more toward the sporty side, as evidenced by the general geometry and components of the models, without sacrificing style. 

NCM Aspen Fat Model Line

The Aspen Plus provides excellent value for money through its sheer sturdiness, high-quality components, and riding experience that don’t leave feeling like you got the shorter end of the stick. Sure, the Das-Kit rear 250W motor may not compare to more premium-priced mid-drives out there, but it’s sufficiently powerful because it can tackle any kind of terrain and performs particularly well on snowy trails.

It’s heavy but sturdy, making it great for beginners. Despite this, it can top at more than 20mph (32 km/h). The full-throttle adds obvious convenience, however, we don’t recommend relying solely on the motor when negotiating steeper than normal inclines.

We also like that you can push this e-bike up to 50 miles (80 km) with a single charge. It uses a brand-standard Das-Kit LCD display that only gives you the bare necessities as far as most e-bikes displays go.

The Aspen Plus is certainly better than its standard counterparts as far as components are concerned. You get sufficiently wide, 26” fat tires, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes as well as optional headlights and taillights.

NCM Moscow eMTB Model Line

The NCM Moscow, particularly its Plus version, received rave reviews on its release and arguably remains one of the fledgling brand’s milestones. It uses a smaller than normal Das-Kit geared rear hub motor with 250W of output and as much as 55 Nm of torque. Great figures, considering the affordable price range.

If we add in the 48V lithium battery that can last up to 75 miles (120 km) with wise usage of the pedal assist, you pretty much get a steal of an eMTB. It uses hard-gripping Schwalbe tires that can handle most kinds of terrain, which only ups its versatility. 

We also love the ergonomic handlebars and the relative comfort of the gel seats. We recommend the Plus version simply because it guarantees your safety better with the Tektro hydraulic disc brakes. They’re “smart” brakes that integrate an interrupter safety feature that lets you shut off the motor should the need arise.

On the whole, it’s an e-bike that’s up there when we’re talking about outstanding value for money as far as e-bikes are concerned.

NCM Prague eMTB Model Line

Fat-tired and cheaper than most, NCM’s Prague line is another proof that the brand knows how to design budget-friendly offerings without compromising on quality. Specs-wise, it’s slightly less beefed up than the Moscow, but it’s still above-average overall.

The 36V battery can give you up to 40 to 60 miles max (65 to 95 km), and the Bafang rear hub motor it uses has stood out in the e-bike industry as one of the most durable that’s available in the market. If you want an eMTB that’s sturdier, safer, and more capable of handling rougher terrains, this is a good candidate because of the Schwalbe 26” fat tires.

It doesn’t have a Plus version, as of this writing. Still, the Tektro mechanical disc brakes are commendable enough for their stopping power. Nothing beats hydraulic, though. The Prague is definitely still a steal by virtue of the perks outlined here and its low price.

NCM Milano Hybrid Model Line

A commuter hybrid, the Milano is certainly one of the most versatile models in the NCM catalog. The step-thru frame definitely helps make that more viable. If we add in the soft cushion of the saddle and the upright seating position, it may even fit the cruiser category with ease!

The Plus is adequately powerful, though, as evidenced by the same 48V battery and Das-Kit rear hub motor that it uses. Expect the specs to be mostly similar with a few deviations. Riders enjoy impressive riding ranges that can go up to 93 miles (150 km) in a single full charge. 

The motor makes easy work of even the steeper climbs out there – all the more so if it’s ridden on paved roads. This model is more complete when it comes to components, though.

Both the standard and Plus include a fairly lengthy rear rack, headlights, kickstand, and fenders. The Plus, with its addition of hydraulic disc brakes, leaves no room for want, so we think it’s still better than the MAX. Although, the MAX does incorporate a mid-drive Bafang motor, which makes it lighter.

NCM Munich Hybrid Model Line

The Munich is NCM’s entry-level commuter that imparts the same comfort as the Milano line. The NC8 version has larger 28” Schwalbe marathon tires that are ideal for longer rides. It also uses a unique combination of Promax-V and Shimano coaster brakes, which obviously requires the user to know their individual mechanisms. 

If you’re not already aware of it, coaster brakes brake when you pedal backward, making it appeal to a specific type of rider. If you don’t prefer that, you can always go for the standard, which uses Tektro disc brakes. 

The range tops to about 43 miles (73 km) for both. The models are comparatively light compared to other commuter options out there, which is a wonder since it uses the same Das-Kit rear hub motor found in most NCM models.

Expect to get the same slew of accessories as the Milano once you choose any Munich model. The same can be said for the overall riding experience, although the Munich can only manage half the range that the Milano can achieve.

NCM Venice Hybrid Model Line

The Venice may seem like just a step-over version of the Milano, but that’s not really the case for its Plus version. You get to enjoy the exclusivity offered by the Venice once you choose its Plus version because of the patently superior components it has.

We like the far better hydraulic brakes it uses, which also happen to have brake sensors. The Venice Plus also has a faster charger. Another unique feature is the Prowheel crank it uses, which has received generally positive reviews in bike circles.

Other than these features, expect the Venice to share the same specs as the Milano.

NCM Paris Folding Model Line

Same as other NCM models, you don’t want to settle for anything other than the Plus version of this folding e-bike. We like the overall smart design of this folding e-bike. For one, we like how you can easily take out the battery by adjusting the saddles and just turning the key and pulling it out for charging. It’s just as easy to slide in. 

We prefer the gel saddles of the Plus version for maximum comfort, and it complements the fact that it’s a suspension seat post. There’s also front suspension, which works just as decently. Of course, the Plus also uses infinitely better hydraulic disc brakes and a faster charger.

The e-bike contains almost every accessory found in NCM’s hybrid commuters, so that’s a big plus because you practically get a folding version of those models with either the Paris or the London.

The fact that it’s step-thru is somewhat great, but most folding e-bikes have low enough frames as they are. Lastly, it takes up close to half of the space it usually occupies once fully folded.

NCM London Folding Model Line

There’s a very thin line that divides the London folding line from its Paris counterpart. Technically, the London is just a step-over variation of the Paris, with a slight very negligible difference in the shift lever used. We have the same feedback as the Paris with regards to its performance and components.

We need to emphasize the quality part since the other aspect that evidently makes NCM stand out is it doesn’t skimp on imparting value to riders. That it underwent vigorous growth since its founding only proves this point further.
