It gives us a glimpse of how significant these indigenous groups are to the culture and history of our country as a whole.

The incredible exhibit also showcases how the location of each tribe in the country plays an important role in preserving and promoting the indigenous culture of Davao City.

26 Best Things to Do in Davao (the Philippines)

There is something in Davao city that you won’t experience often in other areas of the Philippines , and that is a local experience. As Davao isn’t the #1 rated tourist spot in the Philippines, you won’t bump into as many resorts, western restaurants, or high-priced tours, but what you will get is real Filipino food, experiences, prices, and interactions.

Go to a museum and learn about the city’s cultural heritage, walk down a market to taste dishes from family recipes, or walk through acres of wildlife sanctuaries to create lifelong memories.

If you start getting that craving for white sand, Davao is only a boat ride away from some of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines where you can enjoy spectacular beaches with plenty of water activities for a day or two.

Let’s explore the best things to do in Davao :

1. Crocodile Park

Crocodile Park

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Davao city is the Crocodile Park, which is home to thousands of crocodiles. Yes, thousands!

They’ve got both freshwater and saltwater crocs that are bred and born on site. You can visit the incubator room where you’ll see hundreds of crocodile eggs growing baby crocs!

Beyond the crocodiles, you’ll also have the chance to see monkeys, snakes, birds, and other reptiles. The Crocodile Park offers educational tours, lectures, and offers public awareness of wildlife conservation efforts. All around, a great place.

2. Jack’s Ridge

Jack’s Ridge

If you want full eagle-eye views of the city, you’ll want to make your way to Jack’s Ridge.

In addition to marvelous views, there are two restaurants to choose from when you make your way up here: Karlo’s Gourmet which serves coffee and baked treats, and Taklobo where you can sit in an open-air dining area sharing big portions of beautifully plated Filipino food.

If you decide to stay the night, there are cottages, a pool, and lovely views for sunrise.

There is also quite a bit of history on Jack’s Ridge as this land was previously used as the headquarters for retreating Japanese forces during World War II. You can read all about it at the Jack’s Ridge monument. Just goes to show that you’re never too far from a history lesson in the Philippines.

3. Dahican Beach

Dahican Beach

The most beautiful beach on the mainland is hands down Dahican Beach where 7 kilometers of gorgeous sand and turquoise water awaits. Rent a lounge chair for a day or bring your towel so soak up the sun for as long as you’d like.

If you’d like a more adventurous beach experience, there are shacks along the beach renting boogie boards and surfboards perfect for catching some waves. Some of the resorts here offer activities such as island hopping tours that leave from Dahican Beach.

Bring a tent and you can pitch it on the beach overnight for a small fee. Fall asleep to the sounds of waves crashing, wake up to fresh morning air then go take a bath in the sea!

4. Kopiat Island

Kopiat Island

Take a day trip to Kopiat Island off the coast of Davao. This desolate little island is home to heaps of wildlife and beautiful nature. You can go with tour group, which transports you via an exhilarating speedboat ride from the mainland. You’ll set foot ashore within a half an hour. These tours include a visit to the Lubi (coconut) plantation, some incredible food, coffee and desert. And you will of course have time to frolic on the beach as well.

If you’d like a more carefree day, hire a private boat from Davao and have them take you on a 1-2 hour tour where you can come ashore and explore the white sand beaches lined with overhanging coconut trees.

5. China Town

China Town

I bet you didn’t expect to find such a huge China Town in Davao. The Mindanao China Town is a collection of Chinese restaurants, shops, business, and malls spread out over 44 Hectares. Many of the businesses here are actually run by Chinese Filipinos who hold on strong to their Chinese roots.

You’ll enter China town under a traditional bright red Chinese archway with a shingled roof and be transported to a different universe- or at least it feels that way.

Visit the Long Hua Temple that is home to Kung Fu monks or the Mindanao Taoist Temple with beautiful Chinese architecture. Stop in some malls where you can buy electronics and makeup. And of course, eat everything!

6. Island Buenavista

Island Buenavista

Gather 10 of your favorite people and plan the most incredible overnight stay on your very own private island off the coast of Davao! Island Buenavista is a small, pristine island with white sand beaches, clear water, full staff, comfortable accommodation, delicious meals, and water activities, if you please.

For just PhP 105,000, your crew gets all of that to themselves! The island is yours, which means complete privacy and total security with no day trips from random tourists. This is your chance to live like a celebrity!

7. People’s Park

People’s Park

People’s Park is a nice place to come where you can breath in some fresh air, stretch your legs without, be one with nature, and ponder the meaning behind some interesting art.

Created by then mayor President Duerte in 2007, this park is 4 acres of sprawling tropical rainforest, ponds, waterfalls, shady trees, and even some wild eagles.

Sit in the park and feed the pigeons, exercise with a run around the colorfully paved paths, or even take a public Zumba class with literally hundreds of locals (every Sunday at 6am).

8. Isla Reta

Isla Reta

The entrance fee for Isla Reta Beach Resort will grant you a day pass that includes the use of the pavilion, picnic tables, Volley Ball court, open function hall, and an outdoor grill.

Take a quick pump boat from Davao city along with your picnic goods and enjoy a day on this beautiful little island grilling and relaxing with friends. The scenery offers that classic Philippines combination of white sand and turquoise water, but instead of coconut trees, you have big billowy trees that provide some much-needed shade.

If you choose to stay overnight, you can rent a tent and bedding or stay in one of the accommodation choices including dorms.

9. Maxima Aquafun Resort

Maxima Aquafun Resort

Set your inner child free at Maxima Aquafun Resort on Samal Island, just a quick boat ride away from Davao city.

For PhP 300, adults can enjoy a 40-meter super slide that spits you out into the sea, and a water blob that catapults your into the air.

This resort also offers water activities such as banana boat rides, snorkeling, jet skiing, and kayaking.  Dry off on the canopy walk with a suspended bridge that you can rappel down. It will be an adrenaline-filled day!

10. Philippine Eagle Centre

Philippine Eagle Centre

Every dollar that comes through the Philippine Eagle Center is put towards Eagle conservation and education. This incredible center dedicates time and efforts toward protecting endangered eagle species while opening up an interesting platform for the public.

During your visit, you will watch eagles feeding on raw meat as they cut into it with their sharp claws and beak, watch eagles soar around the property with huge wingspans, and take some up-close and personal photos!

There are also huge snakes, monkeys, and an assortment of endangered plant species to see.

11. Museo Dabawenyo

Museo Dabawenyo

What used to be the city court, Museo Dabawenyo now stands to represent the rich history of the people of Davao. The aim is to teach people about the diverse cultural heritage on this island via beautiful artwork, historic photos, and informational monuments.

Within the Museo Dabawenyo, there is the Indigenous People’s Gallery with replicas of stilt houses, musical instruments, and weapons, the Moro People’s Gallery full of antiques such as crowns, armors, chairs, and lamps, the Contemporary Gallery where you can see traditional Filipino clothing, and the Memorabilia Gallery that is home to Filipino bills, clothes, musical notes, and more.

Admission is free!

12. Davao Museum

Davao Museum

If culturally-inspired artwork and vintage maps are your thing, the Davao Museum is for you. This two-story building located inside Insular Village in Lanang is quite bigger than Museo Dabawenyo so dedicate at least an hour to touring this amazing space. Focusing on cultural minorities within the Philippines, you’ll get a glimpse into their cultures with a large collection of artwork and memorabilia.

You’ll find rare maps of Mindanao, centuries-old artifacts, modern paintings, and hand-carved artifacts that all tell a story. This museum is a bit more upscale and is to be respected with no photography and your best behavior!

13. Roxas Avenue Night Market

Roxas Avenue Night Market

Live like a local by perusing this Filipino night market that is widely popular with native Davao residents. Roxas Avenue has stall after stall of fresh and cooked seafood, meats, veggies, and more for you to pick and choose. Sit down for a flavorful soup or take some grilled pork on a stick to go.

Located between Aldevenco shopping center and the ADD University, you could easily do some sightseeing and shopping during the day and then stop by the night market after you’ve worked up an appetite.

14. Civet Coffee

Civet Coffee

Coffee freaks will be excited to try a weird and wild coffee brew called Civet Coffee. A civet is a cat-like wild animal native to the Philippines who helps out with the harvesting process by eating sweet coffee cherries and then pooping out the beans. Apparently, this organic process gives the beans a deep flavor that is out of this world delicious and has no bitter taste.

Trying buying Civet Coffee in the United States and you’ll pay a fortune for these beans, but the closer you go to the source, the less expensive it gets. Mt. Apo has a shop and café where you can buy a cup of Civet Coffee or a bag to take home for cheap!

15. Mount Apo

Mount Apo

“King of Philippine Peaks”, as it’s called, Mount Apo is one of South East Asia’s highest mountains and it’s right here in Davao. The mountain’s peak reaches an elevation of 10,311 feet which is 3,144 meters above sea level. Towards the top, there is a 500-meter wide crater lake created by volcanic activity. The mountain is home to rubber plantations, a 150-meter tall waterfall called Tudaya Falls, along with wild boar and deer.

During the moths of March, April, and October, experienced climbers can climb the summit during a two-day hike organized by various tour groups around the area.

16. Eden Nature Park

Eden Nature Park

In the District of Tril in Davao City, you’ll find Eden Nature Park cozily tucked at the foot of Mount Talomo. Across 80 hectares, you’ll have a chance to explore a wildlife sanctuary full of exotic birds, plants, flowers, and insects.

Just like it sounds, this Davao museum is a comprehensive collection of skeletal bones from animals of all kinds, including the skeleton of a 41-foot Sperm Whale.

There are over 200 preserved skeletal remains that represent species from every walk of life and every environment you could imagine.

The museum was opened in 2012 by an American missionary with a fascination for more than just the religious world beyond. The collection keeps growing year after year- you never know what will turn up next!

18. Davao Butterfly House

Davao Butterfly House

Curving brick paths surrounded by lush green trees, grass, and flowers is only the beginning of your experience at Davao Butterfly House!

A protected refuge for butterflies, plants, flowers, as well as exotic animal and insect species like scorpions, birds, fish and more- this place is not to be skipped during your visit to Davao!

Butterflies are the most active during the morning while it’s not too hot. This is the best time to see them mating, dating, and dancing! Photographers will love this place!

19. BlueJaz Water Park

BlueJaz Water Park

Cool off from the heat at BlueJaz Water Park, a place that is great for both kids and adults. On land, there are two long, winding water slides that spit you out into a cool pool. You can go down these slides as many times as you’d like. There is also a water slide built on stilts about 100 meters from the shore which gives you a nice view of the scenery before you fly into the sea.

Enjoy the beach where you can lounge or sign up for some water activities such as jet skiing or banana boat riding.

Tip: Avoid the weekends and holidays when the waterpark gets crowded.

20. Visit Magsaysay Park

Magsaysay Park

This outdoor park is more than just a place to sit on a park bench and watch the day go by.

Famous for it’s long row of fruit stands featuring mostly Durian, Magsaysay Park is a wonderful place to work on your haggling skills.

Stop in the Fishcado, an open-air seafood restaurant who serves dishes with fresh seafood collected from the local market. Davao is famous for tuna and swordfish dishes so be on the lookout!

As the sun sets, more and more food stalls and snack carts will start rolling in, creating an unofficial night market where you can sample plenty of small treats!

21. Balut Island

Balut Island

There is a relatively underrated volcanic island at the southern tip of Davao Oriental that should be explored if you’ve got the chance.

Balut Island is home to a super interesting mixture of cultures including Muslims, Bilaans, and Sangils, who are native to Indonesia. Most of the locals here are farmers who export coconuts to surrounding areas. The mix of cultures means that you can find an international display of restaurants here.

While you’re on the island, you can take a dip in the Sabung Hot Spring overlooking the sea, stroll the undisturbed white sand beach, watch for Pygmy Sperm Whales in the water, and check out the ruins of Fort Villa from WWI.

22. Philippine-Japanese Historical Museum

Philippine-Japanese Historical Museum

World War II has left its imprint on different islands in different ways- including Davao. Come to the Philippine-Japanese Historical Museum where you’ll learn how Davao served as an island of retreat for the Japanese during the war and how some 20,000 Japanese remained on the island after the war to work on abaca plantations.

In this museum, you’ll witness how the Japanese lived via replicas of their living quarters from the time spent living on the plantation. You’ll see bunk beds, camera, trinkets, and more. You’ll also see relics from the war such as weapons and clothing. This museum offers unique Japanese perspective of war times that you don’t often see.

  • 23.  Blue Post’s Boiling Crab and Seafood

Blue Post’s Boiling Crab And Seafood

Don’t be afraid to get messy at this eat-with-your-hands seafood spot in Davao.

Put on some plastic gloves, a bib, and get ready to dig in like a seaside caveman. You can order a seafood boil with tuna belly, muscles, clams, shrimp, crab and more, tossed in a big plastic bag with incredible sauces and hunks of corn on the cob. The feast is then dumped on a big pan in front of your table to share.

With such close proximity to the waters, it would be a shame to pass up a seafood feast in the Philippines. It’s a fun and delicious experience!

24. Davao Zorb Park

Davao Zorb Park

Let loose and be silly at Davao Zorb Park. If you’ve never heard of a Zorb before, it’s basically one humongous plastic ball that you climb inside to be tossed around. Experience a day of weightlessness with two Zorbing activities at this park.

The first activity is where you climb inside the Zorb and it is then pushed down a giant hill, which sends you flying and rolling inside.

The second activity is where you take the floating Zorb on water as you try to walk around and bump into your friends.

You’ll be laughing all day.

25. Eat Davao Dishes

Imbaw

Filipino food isn’t all just sisig and lechon. Each island offers their own spin. While you’re on Davao, go to some local restaurants to try dishes like Sinuagbang Bihod (grilled tuna fish roe), Inato (grilled chicken with Davao spices), Pasayan (deep-fried shrimp), or Imbaw (clam soup).

Go to restaurants such as Bistro Selera, Ahfat Sea Foods Plaza, Filipino Comfort Food (FCF), or stop by a local street stall for cheap eats to find the most authentic foodie experience possible.

26. Marina Tuna Seafood Restaurant

Marina Tuna Seafood Restaurant

Love tuna? Well, you’re in luck as Davao is popular for their tuna dishes. It’s only fitting, then, that Marina Tuna Seafood Restaurant boasts a menu where they offer tuna cooked 10 different ways. To say they are the experts of tuna is an understatement.

Step outside of your comfort zone and try some parts of the fish that you normally wouldn’t find in a western restaurant such as the crispy tail, eye soup, grilled jaw, and more.

If you aren’t super adventurous when it comes to eating, no worries. Marina Tuna makes some impressive grilled tuna belly and to die for tuna sashimi. Oh, and they have beer!

Kadayawan Festival in Davao

It is also essential when packing your things, as it would serve as a guideline on what you have to bring and wear during your trip to Davao.

As with the whole Philippines, Davao City only has two seasons, the dry summer season and the wet season.  If you have a lot of outdoor destinations included in your Davao itinerary , it's best to book flights to the Philippines during the dry months of January to April.

These months have the least chances of rainfall, so you can fully enjoy the outdoor activities and water adventures.

Davao celebrates its annual Kadayawan Festival every third week of August.  Recognized as the “Mother of all Mindanao festivals” Kadayawan is an extravagant affair that features flower floats parades, street dancing, and trade fairs.

The festival is held in commemoration of Davao’s indigenous people and their contribution to the city’s rich cultural heritage. Kadayawan Festival is also a thanksgiving celebration for a bountiful harvest. Visiting Davao City during the Kadayawan Festival is a great way to experience the city and be immersed in its vibrant culture.

Before heading to the city, make sure to check Davao weather updates to avoid any problems during your trip. Learning about the climate and weather of your destination is the best way to prevent canceled plans due to inclement weather conditions.

Take note that Davao weather does not vary significantly throughout the year. However, March, April, and May are the hottest months in Davao City, with an average daily high of 32°C.

The ideal time to visit Davao City for hot-weather activities would be from early January to May. These months are perfect because they receive less rainfall than the other months. Here’s a summary of the average monthly rainfall in Davao City:

Davao Travel Guide: What to Do + Hotels + Itinerary

Davao weather can be humid during the summer season, it's best to wear light, breathable clothes as the weather can get hot and humid. If you’re coming to Davao from June to November,  bring an umbrella or jacket since these months are the rainy season.

Luckily for travelers looking for their next tropical getaway, Davao is easy to reach. Thanks to its international airport, Davao is highly accessible from other airports in the Philippines , as well as from select international airports abroad. Travelers can also catch daily flights to Manila from here.

Davao has its own airport, the Francisco Bangoy International Airport commonly referred to as the Davao International Airport . It is the main gateway to Mindanao, so it is naturally the busiest airport in Mindanao and the third busiest in the Philippines.

Aside from being connected to major jump-offs all over the Philippines, Davao Airport is also connected to a number of international airports.

If you’re coming from outside of the Philippines, you can travel to Davao directly, or you can fly to either Manila-Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Luzon or Mactan-Cebu International Airport in the Visaya.

From International Destinations

Davao International Airport is connected to international destinations like Hongkong, Singapore, Indonesia, and Taiwan. Wherever you are in the world, you can fly to those countries and hop on a plane headed directly for Davao City.

From Luzon and Visayas

You also have the option to fly to the major jump-off points across the country. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Airport in  Manila , Luzon is connected to several countries in Asia, Middle East, Oceania, North America, and Europe. From NAIA, you can fly directly to Davao International Airport.

Flying in from Clark to Davao, it is also a good choice if you’re coming from the Northern part of Luzon or if you want to avoid the traffic in Manila. Airfares from Clark are usually lower than Manila. Luckily, Clark International Airport is connected to Korea, Taiwan, Hongkong, and Singapore.

You can also fly in from the Visayas region by taking  Bohol to Davao flight  or Bacolod to Davao flight , among others. A flight from Cebu is also a popular choice as the Mactan-Cebu International Airport is now connected to 21 international destinations including, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

If you will be coming from Mindanao, you can take a Zamboanga to Davao flight as well.

Traveling to Davao via ferry is also possible, albeit less convenient. There are no ports that accommodate long-distance passenger ferries within the city. If you’re coming from Manila or Cebu, you will be docking at Nasipit Port in Agusan del Norte which is approximately 6 hours away from Davao City.

You will need to learn how to get around Davao to reach tourist attractions. Strap on because Davao has a variety of transportation options. The primary mode of transport is the jeepney, which has specific routes that can take you around the city. Jeepneys,  multicabs, buses, and tricycles serve as general transport.

  • Book Davao City airport transfers

Taxicabs can also be hired to take you to other parts of Davao. Alternatively, you can rent a car in Davao for maximum comfort and convenience. Just make sure you have all the requirements to rent a car in the Philippines . Taxi booking apps are also available in Davao.

Jeepneys or jeeps are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines along major highways. They ply specific routes that can take you around the city.

Riding these open-aired vehicles in congested streets offers an interesting experience for first-time visitors. You can use this Davao City Jeepney Guide App to help you find and ride the right jeepney route.

Motorized tricycles, or simply tricycles, are the Philippine version of the auto-rickshaw. They are also comparable to Thailand’s tuk-tuk. Tricycles ply the barangay roads throughout the Davao City; they typically go where the jeepneys can’t.

Tricycles can’t pass by major roads, but you can hail one anywhere as long as you’re not on the highway.

Van or Car Rental

If you’re traveling from the city to the rural towns, you might need to get on a bus, ride a jeepney afterward, and possibly hop on a tricycle. Multiple transfers are unavoidable if you’re traveling to the further towns of the province via public transportation. If this isn’t comfortable for you, you can opt for self-drive car rentals in the Philippines . Booking a Davao car rental  or a van rental in the Philippines  is your best option, or if you can indulge, book a  budget car rental in the Philippines ,  SUV rental in the Philippines , or  luxury car rental in the Philippines .

There are plenty of taxi cabs in Davao. They're one of the easiest modes of getting around, but they can also be quite costly since Davao is a huge city. You can hail one almost anywhere.

The best thing about Davao taxis is that unlike those in Metro Manila who usually pick passengers, Davao taxi drivers will take you to your destination without second thoughts.

Taxi Booking App

Typically, commuting in Davao entails riding more than one public transportation. If you can’t stand going through multiple transfers, then you can opt to take a taxi or book with the Grab Taxi app .

While Grab Taxi is usually more expensive than riding jeepneys or buses, these can ensure you can get around safely and in comfort. You don’t have to do multiple transfers, which is convenient for travelers coming from and going to the airport.

There are also buses in Davao. However, buses exclusively ply the north to south route. Riding a bus is a great way to go in and out of the city. You can also ride a bus to get to Samal Island. The Island City Express Bus can take you to Samal Island via the barge-ferry at Sasa Ferry Terminal.

Another mode of transportation you can take to reach Samal Island is a water taxi. Water taxis bring locals and international travelers to and from Samal Island and Davao. There are daily water taxi trips to the Island Garden City of Samal. You catch the water taxi at Sta. Ana Wharf in Davao. The water taxi can transport up to 4 passengers.

In addition to being the only one in Mindanao, Davao Chinatown also claims to be the biggest one in the world. The 44 hectare business center is much different than Binondo in Manila. Instead of the rows of little shops, and family restaurants, the Davao version is filled with warehouses and commercial establishments. Those exploring can choose to visit one of the four buddhist temples, and go shopping in one of the five malls including the famous 168.

7. People’s Park

Public park

Boldly dubbed as the best park in the Philippines by many, People’s Park tops the list of one of the most visited spots in the City. The 4-hectare park features sculptures of different Davao symbols by Kublai Milan, manicured greens, a rainbow colored track, and even a children’s library. With a whopping P72-million budget, visitors get to enjoy the upscale and well-maintained amenities for free.

8. Japanese Tunnels

Step back in time in this 300 meter long tunnel of history where two life-sized Japanese soldiers stand guard. For a small fee, guests are allowed to explore the former headquarters used as chambers, offices, and even dungeons for prisoners during the 2nd World War. There you’ll find vintage weapons, statues dressed in kimonos, and old bullets fired during the battle. Given the dark history built around the tunnel, expect to feel a little uneasy inside.

9. San Pedro Street

San Pedro Church Davao

San Pedro Street, or simply called “downtown,” is one of the oldest and busiest parts of Davao City. It’s the everyday-place for Davaoeños, while tourist flock the area for a dose of local life. During daylight it’s a busy, slightly serious district with the Davao Capitol building looming closeby. While San Pedro at night is just as busy, possibly even more. Expect to see second-hand shops, dirt-cheap exports, and food vendors all noisily announcing their special prices. And of course, there’s also the San Pedro Cathedral, the focal point of the street, where you can stop by for a quick prayer.

10. Kublai Art Garden

Located in Kapatangan, one of the favorite outdoor-adventure destinations in the foot of Mt. Apo, Kublai Art Garden is a collection of sculptures scattered around the lush valley. The garden serves as a giant canvas for artist, Kublai Millan, and his works. One of the most notable pieces is the Agong House, a structure patterned after the Mindanaoan percussion instrument, which is also used as a resthouse by the artist himself.

12 Underrated Tourist Spots In Davao Oriental (Cateel & Baganga)

The promise island of Mindanao is now slowly gaining attention from the local travel community. It started with the mystic island of Camiguin then pretty quickly, Siargao rose to fame. One by one, the jewels of the southern parts of The Philippines are getting their well-deserved recognition. People are slowly warming up to Zamboanga, Basilan and Tawi Tawi when not so long ago, these places were feared all over the world. And I guess Davao needs no further introduction with it being famous for Mt. Apo and durian. Now the big surprise came from the areas away from this city, particularly, the eastern coasts. Many people already knew about Mati but let’s set our eyes to the less-known towns of Cateel and Baganga and these 10 Underrated Tourist Spots In Davao Oriental.

1. Aliwagwag Falls

Aliwagwag Falls is considered as the highest waterfall in the country. It consists of more than a hundred tiers of smaller waterfalls flowing from high up the mountains surrounded by a lush rainforest. As a child, I have always been enchanted to see this precious natural gem. It is sort of a relief to behold this beguiling beauty every time after a long and tiresome journey. Although some developments were made to make visiting the falls more enticing to tourists, I’m just glad to see it remain at its most natural state.

How To Go To Aliwagwag Falls: From Davao City, go to Ecoland Terminal. Ride a van going to Cateel or Baganga. The falls should just be along the way before reaching the town. Travel Time : 3 Hrs Fare: P350 Entrance: P100/Person

2. Lake Carolina

Lake Carolina is one of the newest spots to surface in recent years. It is a beautiful lake with mesmerizing turquoise water nestled in the middle of towering trees just a few walks from the highway. Its water is crystal clear and cold perfect for a refreshing dip during summer. Its depth is unknown. Some say it is connected to a nearby beach through an underwater cave but no one can really say for sure. Boating or rafting and simply chilling while basking in its captivating beauty are the most fun to do in this stunning lake.

How To Go To Lake Carolina: From Davao City, ride a van going to Baganga. In Baganga central, ride a tricycle going to Lake Carolina. Travel Time: 4 Hrs Fare: P450 Entrance Fee: P10

3. Long Beach Cream Sand

It is the longest beach in the area traversing barangays San Antonio and Baybay in Cateel hence its name. But the sands are not the standard cream color. It is more like brown, like milk chocolate or mocha yet it’s one of the finest, smoothest and softest sands I’ve ever sunk my feet into. The beach is truly gorgeous and some say celebrities like Erwan Heusaff and Drew Arellano secretly frequent the area to surf. And just recently, Kulas of Becoming Filipino also purchased property along this beach.

How To Go To Long Beach Cream Sand: From Davao City, ride a van going to Cateel. In Cateel central, ride a tricycle going to Brgy. San Antonio and tell them you’re going to Long Beach Cream Sand. You can also ride a van going to Baganga and get off in Brgy. San Antonio, at the junction leading to the beach. Travel Time: 4 Hrs Fare: P400 Entrance Fee: Free but a few resorts are in the area that charge P20.

4. Mahoc Beach

Mahoc Beach is one of the few white sand beaches in both Cateel and Baganga. It has fine sugary white sands that stretch to about a few kilometers. It has subtle waves perfect for both surfing and taking a nice dip. Cottages are scattered along the beach which you could rent for P500/day. Grilling areas are also available where you can cook some freshly caught seafood sold by fisherfolks there.

How To Go To Mahoc Beach: From Davao City, ride a van going to Baganga and alight in Mahoc Beach just before you reach the welcome to Baganga arc. The beach is just along the h-way so you can just walk your way there. Travel Time: 4 Hrs Fare: P400 Entrance: Free Cottage: P300-P500 depending on the size

5. Anagacian Falls

Anagacian Falls is a newly discovered waterfall in Baganga. It has shower-like cascades falling to an emerald lagoon. Getting to the falls requires a 2-hour trek and several river crossings.

How To Go To Anagacian Falls: From Davao City, ride a van going to Baganga. In Baganga, ride a tricycle to Brgy. Batiano. Hire a guide and start the trek. Travel Time: 5 Hrs Fare: P450-P500 Entrance: 20 Guide Fee: P300

6. Sunrise Boulevard

Sunrise Boulevard is a local favorite. Most locals spend their time here with their families to simply admire the ocean or take a dip in its tidal pools during low tide. People usually stop by this spot at any given time of the day but the best hour is still during sunrise hence it’s called Sunrise Boulevard.

How To Go To Sunrise Blvd: From Davao City, ride a van going to Baganga and Sunrise Boulevard should just be along the way. Travel Time: 4 Hrs Fare: P400 Entrance: Free

7. San Victor Island

San Victor Island is one of the few islands dotting the Davao eastern coasts. It is a small island situated five minutes off the coast of Brgy. San Victor. It previously served as a retreat and recreation island for several Christian religious sects. The island has fine white sand beaches and cerulean clear water. Visitors are welcome to stay for a day or overnight.

How To Go To San Victor Island: From Davao City, ride a van going to Baganga. The jump-off to San Victor Island should just be along the highway. Hire a boat to the island. Travel Time: 4Hrs Fare: P400-P450 Entrance Fee: P50 Boat: P50/Person/2Way Environmental Fee: P50/group

8. Kinablangan Floating Cottages

If you are into all sorts of seafood and would like to sample some of the freshest ones when you’re in the area, there is no other place to be than in Kinablangan. My mom frequents this place whenever she comes home from Manila. Visitors can rent a floating cottage for P300-P500, depending on your haggling skills. While afloat in the middle of the sea, you can enjoy binging on seafood and booze and take a dip to sober up later.

Update:  The local barangay has now taken over the tourist activities in Poo Sandbar and Island. Visitors are now required to register at the barangay office and pay an entrance fee of P100/head. There are no more floating cottages and they are replaced by regular outrigger boats which is rented at P75/head/hour.

How To Go To Kinablangan: From Davao City, ride a van to Baganga. Tell the driver you’re going to Kinablangan so they would take you inside and not just drop you off at the side of the highway. From there, hire a tricycle to take you to the fish wharf. Roads are not developed so the ride could be a bit bumpy. Travel Time : 4.5 Hrs Fare: P400-P450 Entrance: Free Boat Rental: P75/head/hour

9. Ban-ao Caves

Baganga surely is brimming with one too many undiscovered jewels. Just a couple of years ago, it opened five cave systems both for exploration and research. A visit to the caves is perfect for people looking for an adventure other than the usual, a rush of adrenaline maybe or simply basking at something extraordinary which spelunking can both offer.

How To Go To Ban-ao Caves: From Davao City, ride a van to Baganga and alight in Ban-ao Central. Go to the barangay office and hire a tour guide. Travel Time: 4 Hrs Fare: P450 Entrance: – Guide Fee: –

10. Curtain Falls

As its name suggests, Curtain Falls has silky white curtain-like cascades falling into its emerald basin pool surrounded by a pile of rocks. The local tourism authority has developed the area near the waterfall where they built a lounge and a snack area for visitors. Spaces nearest to the falls were unchanged and only small picnic huts were placed to accommodate visitors. The roads were also being fixed for better access.

How To Go To Curtain Falls: Curtain Falls is kind of hard to get to with public transpo. So from Davao City, just hop on a van going to Baganga. In Baganga, rent a motorcycle or hire a habal-habal to take you to the Curtain Falls. Travel Time: 4 Hrs (Dvo-Baganga) | 1.5 Hrs to the falls. Fare: P450 (Dvo-Baganga) | P300 (Habal-Habal) Entrance: P10 Parking Fee: P20-P50 depends on your vehicle

11. Brian J. Nature Resort

Experience luxury for as low as P25. This resort in the middle of a forested barangay of Mahan-ub has a gorgeous swimming pool similar to those you would only see in expensive private villas and resorts.

How To Go To Brian J. Nature Resort: From Davao City, ride a van to Baganga and alight at the turn leading to Brgy. Mahan-ub, just before crossing Baganga Bridge. Ride a tricycle to Brgy. Mahan-ub and ask them to drop you off at Brian J. Nature Resort. Travel Time: 4 Hrs Fare: P450 Entrance: P25/head Cottage: P100

12. Langoyon Beach & Mangrove Park

Baganga and Cateel are overflowing with nature’s goodness from stunning beaches to gorgeous waterfalls and lakes. This fact is also seen in the abundant mangrove forests found in different areas within these two towns. One of the best places where these beautiful mangroves are showcased is Langoyon Beach & Mangrove Park and a visit to this place and one of its resorts makes for an adventurous retreat close to nature.

How To Go Langoyon Beach & Mangrove Park: From Davao City, ride a van to Baganga then ride a tricycle going to Brgy. Baculin and tell the driver to drop you off at Langoyon Beach. Travel Time: 4-5 Hrs Fare: P500-P600 Entrance: Depends on the resort. Langoyon Beach Resort charges P100/head. Cottage: P500

Useful Travel Tips

  • Davao City is the nearest airport to access these tourist spots. Flying to Butuan is also a good option if you plan to check out Agusan Provinces first and work your way to Davao Oriental.
  • Taking a bus to Baganga and Cateel from Davao City is also an option but make sure you ride the bus passing by ComVal as the usual ones use the route via Mati which is farther. Unless you’re planning to explore Mati first, taking the route via Compostela Valley is the most ideal way.
  • Getting to each one of the tourist spots can be done by hiring or renting a motorcycle. Note that these spots are relatively far from one another and it may require a couple of days to visit them all.
  • If you are going back to Davao City after seeing these spots, I would suggest that you start exploring Baganga. But if you are headed to Mati, start with the spots found in Cateel.
  • If you are into waterfalls, the nearby towns of Boston and Maragusan are a paradise for unexplored waterfalls too.
  • Know that waterfalls are best seen during rainy seasons and in Davao Oriental, rains are predominant during the months of November to May. June to October is typically sunny.

There you have it lovelies. Tell me what you think about these spots. How many of them have you seen so far? If none yet, hope this helps you on your trip in the future. Share this post with your friends and plan that road trip now. Until next time. Ciao!

Hello….I’m currently in Tagum city ….I would like to know what the best way to get there from Tagum city…

Hello Gerald. You can ride a bus bound for either Mati or Cateel.

Hi, can you recommend a beach that accomodates an overnight stay for more than 10 person…

Hello. I would suggest staying in Pilot Beach. San Victor Island also caters to visitors who are staying for the night.

Ilang days in total to fully explore all of these? Where should we stay at night? Sa long beach ba o mas okey sa Mahoc? Thanks 🙂

Hi. 3 days would suffice. You can stay in both beaches. Please know that there might not be resorts available at the moment, kaya bring tents with you.

Finally, I will be going to Baganga for 3 days vacay, thanks for the tip. May idea ka if pwedeng ang itinerary from Davao City-Compostela Valley-Baganga tapos exit Mati balik ng Davao City? Would like to visit din sana Pusan Point. Thanks. Hesitant pa ako if saan ako magstay, sa Dagat ni Tatay or Camp Sotera. Hope you’ll help me decide.

Yes. Okay nman yung itinerary mo. Dagat ni Tatay is kind of busy esp on weekends pero if di nman yun issue then you can stay there. Both are okay nman kasi they share the same beach.

Yeah I visit their official fb page and yup, busy nga sa Dagat ni Tatay. Pero tumatanggap naman daw sila ng outsider visitor and it seems nga na kapitbahay lang sila ng Camp, so, I chose to stay sa Camp and visit sa Dagat ni Tatay. Last question, may idea ka anong magandang oras maganda pumunta sa floating cottage? Kasi undecided ako if after ng Sunrise Boulevard, saan ako next, Curtain Falls or Floating Cottage sa Poo?

Depends. Mas maganda pumunta dun ng lowtide para maexperience mo yung sandbar. Wala ng floating cottages ngayon. Regular na bangka na lang sya. Mas maganda din babad muna sa dagat then banlaw sa falls.

Curious what spots can cover a full 2 day itinerary? Thanks!

Hello Pearl. You can do Aliwagwag, Curtain Falls & San Victor Island for your 2-day itinerary.

Thanks much Maam Keza..have a nice day ahead😊

You do the same and stay safe. 🤘🏼

Is it safe for female solo traveler to follow your 3D2N for Cateel and Banganga? Thank you.

Absolutely. Davao Oriental is a safe place.

Hi Maam Keza, we are planning to visit those tourist spots may I know if kylangan po ba ng QR code or any requirements para mka visit sa jn sa baganga?

Hello Jan. For a more accurate response, please visit https://www.facebook.com/bagangatourism/

Hi. Accessible by van ba ang area ng curtain falls? Do we need to hike? If yes, how many minutes/hours? Safe ba ang parking area? Please advise. Thank you.

Hello. Accessible nman po by van. May konteng trek papunta sa Falls + tawid ilog pero less than 10 minutes lang.

I lived there.. Miss are there also!?

Hi, can you recommend an accommodation in Baganga?

I would suggest to find a beach resort to spend the night but if you are looking for a much accessible accommodation, Slapen Chillin is my reco.

Hi Keza, is it ok to travel riding a motorbike?

Hi Erik. Yes. Roads are very good in DavOr especially those going to their tourist spots.
